2024 Season – Game 6 – Dolphins @ Colts

The Miami Dolphins go to Indianapolis after the BYE week with an opportunity to get back to .500 and even their record to 3-3. QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is in line to start, but backup QB Skylar Thompson, recovering from a bruised ribs, should be able to be the backup QB. Injuries aside, this game goes way beyond just our players injuries. Somehow, we plodded past the inept New England Patriots and won that game 15-10. We have won 2 games so far, and in neither victory did this team resemble in any way the high flying offense from last season where the team scored 496 points and scored an average of 29.2 PPG. So far this season the Dolphins are averaging a paltry 12 PPG, the leagues worst. For reference, the Carolina Panthers have their backup QB in, and the Panthers are just awful by the way, yet somehow the Carolina Panthers with Andy Dalton have scored 22.5 PPG in his 4 games that he’s played. Take away our season opener where we erupted for 20 points, we’re scoring 10 points per game. This with WR’s Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, RB’s De’Von Achane, Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright all sharing time. No bueno, and people, people meaning our coaching staff, and the players, need to be held accountable.

It looks like the Colts will be going with QB Anthony Richardson on Sunday. He’s been out for 3 games, and in his stead, QB Joe Flacco was killing it! Flacco in 3 games has completed 71 of 108 pass attempts with 7 TD’s and 1 INT. The Colts want their 1st RD pick back on the field, so despite the success Flacco has had, they’re back to Richardson. Richardson has struggled this season and despite the fact that he’s 2-2 this season, he has completed 50% of his passes with 3 TD’s and 6 INT’s. That’s more in line with our QB’s, so maybe the playing field is level for a change. The big difference is QB Anthony Richardson has a very high ceiling, and is a very athletic QB, while you can’t say that about either of our QB’s Tyler Huntley or Skylar Thompson.

One thing that’s just about impossible to me is the fact that last season, our TE room didn’t catch one TD. Well, guess what? We brought in TE Jonnu Smith who was supposed to be a big part of the offense, especially if WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were getting shut down. Guess what again, they’ve been shut down ALL SEASON! Still, no Dolphins TE has caught a TD last season or this season through 5 games. Could this be the week? Don’t bet on it, but you never know. Good news for the offense is RB’s Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are both going to play, along with promising rookie Jaylen Wright.

The defense is right smack in the middle statistically this season, but when the offense can’t sustain drives and turns the ball over, that puts more pressure on the D, and of course they’re out on the field much longer than they should. We’re giving up 22.6 PPG, which I feel is acceptable, considering once again how poor the offense has been. HC Mike McDaniel had the BYE week to come up with ways to get this offense going with QB Tyler Huntley, and then of course the likely return of QB Tua Tagovailoa from a concussion, at the Fest game against the Arizona Cardinals. This offense has to start showing some life, or the Head Coach, despite getting an extension, should be in danger of losing his job. The best player on this has been 39 year old DL Calais Campbell. Hands down, he’s had the biggest impact. He and his opposite DE Zach Sieler. Both players are getting it done, my fear that Sieler would suffer without DE Christian Wilkins was probably accurate, because Calais Campbell has been that good. Unfortunately, Campbell has made it clear this is his last season, so next year it’s going to need to be a priority of sorts, although QB, and O-line will be much higher priorities out of necessity.

If WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have pride, and I believe they do, these guys are going to have to start to make an impact. I understand they rely on the QB, but they have to be better. We can’t fall to 2-4, and then expect the fragile QB Tua Tagovailoa to take this team the playoffs. They need to get themselves in gear and start scoring TD’s. Get the TE involved, maybe even get them a TD. When Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are healthy, they make a difference, they give this offense some electricity, but they need the star WR’s to be much more involved in the offense and scoring.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

I hate to question effort, because that’s difficult to judge, but it does seem like Hill at times checked out. Only the coaches and his teammates know whether that is the case or not, but it’s unacceptable no matter what.

    Not surprised.

Odell Beckham Jr. was the only #Dolphins player expected to practice who didn’t. No clue if this is personal or medical.

Hopefully the Mets can get the series back to LA.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Really hope so. Two reasons. One, I don’t want it to end. Two, I really don’t want them celebrating on our field in front of our fans. Glad they’re giving the ball to Peterson. He deserves the ball a helluva lot more than Senga does. He’s done it all season long, so we live or die with him and the bullpen or any starting pitcher they need to use to keep this series going

Fucking OBJ hurt his hamstring and is “questionable” for Sunday’s game. Was he sprinting to the fucking bank? Give me a break with this guy. This reeks of Will Fuller type of behavior.

    • RB De’Von Achane told reporters Friday that he has passed concussion protocol and is in line to play Sunday against the Colts. Achane is off the official injury report.
    • WR Odell Beckham (hamstring/personal) is questionable to play.
    • LB David Long (knee) questionable

Miami Dolphins special teams coordinator Danny Crossman

Miami Dolphins special teams coordinator Danny Crossman

Danny Crossman is out of his depth as the Miami Dolphins’ special teams coordinator, and if head coach Mike McDaniel needed another reason to make a change, Crossman just gave them one.

Crossman’s special teams unit has consistently ranked in the bottom of the league. They are currently 32. That should have been enough, but it hasn’t been. On Thursday, Crossman met with reporters and immediately gave the organization a reason to get rid of him

Speaking with the South Florida media, Crossman delivered one of the worst comments a coach could probably make.

Dolphins special teams coordinator Danny Crossman says, after a game filled with blunders, the tone of his unit’s meetings doesn’t necessarily change. I asked if he had to let guys hear it at halftime in NE. He said he doesn’t like to remind players of mistakes on game day.

I’m sorry, he said what? I get that coaches don’t want to upset any delicate mindsets that a player might have, and he isn’t about to throw a player under the proverbial bus, but in the words of Deion Sanders, “Come on, man.”

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel needs to make a change on special teams

It’s hard to believe McDaniel hasn’t made a change, especially with the bye week to assess their disastrous special-teams performance against the New England Patriots

So, to be crystal clear here, Crossman isn’t going to change his tone in the first team meeting after one of the most well-roundedly horrible games a special teams unit may have ever played, and he didn’t bother to say anything to them at halftime because he what? Didn’t want to upset them?

That is definitely how this is coming across. Crossman is coaching men and players who are likely on the team simply because they play special teams. I don’t think holding their hands is what is going to make them better. Even if he truly feels that way, don’t say it out loud.

The retention of Crossman has been a continuing joke for a few years now. In 2022, the Dolphins ranked last in the NFL. They improved to 29th in 2023 after many fans expected Crossman to be fired. This year, they are back to 32. Held over from the Brian Flores era, Crossman’s time in Miami is hanging by a thread

    _________

Why the fuck does he have a job?! With the Dolphins, no less?!

Mets have really given me some good sports feelings. I’m hoping the Cinderella run against the 800 lb Kong continues to the WS gorilla that’s next in line. Lots of fun. On football, this team should be able to win. Richardson has been really bad. We have supposed elite talent. It should be close, but this is the easier part of the schedule and being 3-3 when Tua gets back makes a lot of difference.

7-0, 4-0 in the Big Ten and still #1 in the Big Ten!!!!!

Steam rolled right past 5-1 Nebraska by a score of 56-7. The largest point spread over a Big Ten opponent in school history.

Sad note, IU QB Kurtis Rourke hurt his index finger and thumb on his throwing hand. He stayed in the game until half time and threw an INT on a last second hail Mary after injuring his hand.

He was 17-21 for 189, 1TD and 1 INT. One of his 4 incompletions was a drop, and another was the hail Mary INT.

Came to IU after being HC at JMU. What I liked about him from the get go was when a reporter asked him at his first press conference how he plans to appeal to recruits at a school like IU. His answer, “It’s pretty simple. I win”, “Google me.”
