2024 Season – Game 6 – Dolphins @ Colts

The Miami Dolphins go to Indianapolis after the BYE week with an opportunity to get back to .500 and even their record to 3-3. QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is in line to start, but backup QB Skylar Thompson, recovering from a bruised ribs, should be able to be the backup QB. Injuries aside, this game goes way beyond just our players injuries. Somehow, we plodded past the inept New England Patriots and won that game 15-10. We have won 2 games so far, and in neither victory did this team resemble in any way the high flying offense from last season where the team scored 496 points and scored an average of 29.2 PPG. So far this season the Dolphins are averaging a paltry 12 PPG, the leagues worst. For reference, the Carolina Panthers have their backup QB in, and the Panthers are just awful by the way, yet somehow the Carolina Panthers with Andy Dalton have scored 22.5 PPG in his 4 games that he’s played. Take away our season opener where we erupted for 20 points, we’re scoring 10 points per game. This with WR’s Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, RB’s De’Von Achane, Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright all sharing time. No bueno, and people, people meaning our coaching staff, and the players, need to be held accountable.

It looks like the Colts will be going with QB Anthony Richardson on Sunday. He’s been out for 3 games, and in his stead, QB Joe Flacco was killing it! Flacco in 3 games has completed 71 of 108 pass attempts with 7 TD’s and 1 INT. The Colts want their 1st RD pick back on the field, so despite the success Flacco has had, they’re back to Richardson. Richardson has struggled this season and despite the fact that he’s 2-2 this season, he has completed 50% of his passes with 3 TD’s and 6 INT’s. That’s more in line with our QB’s, so maybe the playing field is level for a change. The big difference is QB Anthony Richardson has a very high ceiling, and is a very athletic QB, while you can’t say that about either of our QB’s Tyler Huntley or Skylar Thompson.

One thing that’s just about impossible to me is the fact that last season, our TE room didn’t catch one TD. Well, guess what? We brought in TE Jonnu Smith who was supposed to be a big part of the offense, especially if WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were getting shut down. Guess what again, they’ve been shut down ALL SEASON! Still, no Dolphins TE has caught a TD last season or this season through 5 games. Could this be the week? Don’t bet on it, but you never know. Good news for the offense is RB’s Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are both going to play, along with promising rookie Jaylen Wright.

The defense is right smack in the middle statistically this season, but when the offense can’t sustain drives and turns the ball over, that puts more pressure on the D, and of course they’re out on the field much longer than they should. We’re giving up 22.6 PPG, which I feel is acceptable, considering once again how poor the offense has been. HC Mike McDaniel had the BYE week to come up with ways to get this offense going with QB Tyler Huntley, and then of course the likely return of QB Tua Tagovailoa from a concussion, at the Fest game against the Arizona Cardinals. This offense has to start showing some life, or the Head Coach, despite getting an extension, should be in danger of losing his job. The best player on this has been 39 year old DL Calais Campbell. Hands down, he’s had the biggest impact. He and his opposite DE Zach Sieler. Both players are getting it done, my fear that Sieler would suffer without DE Christian Wilkins was probably accurate, because Calais Campbell has been that good. Unfortunately, Campbell has made it clear this is his last season, so next year it’s going to need to be a priority of sorts, although QB, and O-line will be much higher priorities out of necessity.

If WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have pride, and I believe they do, these guys are going to have to start to make an impact. I understand they rely on the QB, but they have to be better. We can’t fall to 2-4, and then expect the fragile QB Tua Tagovailoa to take this team the playoffs. They need to get themselves in gear and start scoring TD’s. Get the TE involved, maybe even get them a TD. When Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are healthy, they make a difference, they give this offense some electricity, but they need the star WR’s to be much more involved in the offense and scoring.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

I agree that QB is still a problem, and that includes Tua. How anyone can expect to count on him is beyond me.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s so much better than what we’re seeing. I understand the issues with him. But it’s night and day. His anticipation and accuracy is far superior than what we’re seeing.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Last year. Now after another concussion, and considering hiw poorly he played against Buffalo, not sure how you expect any better

  2. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

plenty of teams win with a back up QB, I don’t think we can regularly. You know why Indy is 4-3? Joe Flacco . He was out there but we felt better about Skylar “Deer in the Headlights” Thomson and for some fucking inexplicable reason Tim Boyle after we cut Mike White. Mike White would have definitely been better than the schmucks we’ve been putting on the field.

  3. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I agree. QB is very important, but teams win with backups all the time and lose with elite QBs all the time. The Steelers are 4-2 with terrible Fields. Cincy 3-4 with awesome Joe. Lions 5-1 with inconsistent Goff. Vikings 5-1 with Sam Darnold of all people. This team is just incredibly poorly constructed and coached.

It’s insane to say on one hand that this team can’t win without concussion prone Tua….and on the other hand let your top OL leave while also not drafting more guys to replace Hunt and the always injured Armstead. We drafted Eichenberg and Paul the past 4 drafts. That’s just not going to do it and our OL coaches have been terrible. If fact, what good coaches has MM brought with him? Who on this team is much better than they were projected to be? No one.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

By no means I’m I letting MM off the hook. He’s the biggest problem right now IMO

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Same. I just don’t see any evidence of his coaching ever being the reason we win. This entire thing in on Tua’s back. No wonder MM props him so often. Tua is his lifeline as a coach.

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Let me rephrase that. The Dolphins may look better with Tua, but they won’t be good enough. Slight chance we could play with Arizona, but then we go to BUF, which should finish us off for the season. Then of course, it’s a matter of how long Tua lasts before going down again, and if any of you feel differently, you’re fooling yourself, because he’s going to get hit, and we know what happens then, even if wears that puffy helmet

  5. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’ll go a step further. This team will never be a top-notch organization or team with Grier and MM at the helm. Grier is a terrible GM and the only people who respect MM are and Tua. And Tua may only like him but not respect him. It remains to be seen. Let’s see Tua force some accountability as MM sits in the background again. A coach that can’t lead isn’t a real HC.

  6. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Looks like DeShaun Watson is done for the season with an achilles injury? Does anyone feel bad, including Browns fans? I think the GM feels bad, because he gave him a fully guaranteed contract. That man, like Grier, should be FIRED!!!

  14. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Dolphins need to wake up to reality. Find trade partners for Tyreek Hill, Jalen Ramsey, David Long (free agent next year), Calias Campbell (he deserves to be on a winner), OBJ (doubt any takers).

A trade of Tyreek will clear 24 mil in cap in 2025 with 7 mill dead cap.

Ramsey trade would create and extra 9 mill cap hit in 2025 but would come very cheap to a trade partner and probably get a late 1st rounder for him. Lions come to mind.

Do you trade Holland before you lose him in free agency?

  15. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

QB play is below average. The end!

  16. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Holy fuck, I have 3 WR’s in fantasy football that will probably finish with a combined total of less than 5 points. All starters, all on good teams. WR Tank Dell 0.6 points, Courtland Sutton 0.0, and Brandon Aiyuk 4.3 points. That’s some bad luck right there!

  24. New Age's avatar New Age says:

One of the reasons we have subpar QBs is that Tua can’t handle qualified QBs in his QB room. Dude was so broken by Fitz being a better QB his first 2 years that he can’t allow a solid backup on this team. Dudes like Tannehill, Flacco, Dalton, Fields, and Garappolo, won’t see this field. We get studs like Boyle and Thompson.

  25. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

10 points against the worst fucking defense…wtf…this is retarded

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

To be fair, Colts are currently ranked 12th in points allowed. Before our game they were ranked 16th in points allowed.

Don’t know why everyone thinks the Colts should have been a sure win. They are 4-3 and only lost by 2 points to the Texans, lost by 6 at GB and lost by 3 to the Jags.

Colts have beaten the 4-2 Bears and the 4-2 Steelers.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Because their terrible QB was starting again and the wins with him were in spite of him. Dude had 129 yards passing today and we had a 10-0 lead. We could have beat them if we didn’t play some of the worst football a team has played this year.

The QBs had plenty of time to throw. They don’t have confidence in themselves to go down the field. We’ve seen it 4 games in a row.

If you want to blame anyone for anything, we don’t have a competent backup QB. You can’t win with these guys.

    —————-

    EXACTLY, Tim!

And all the while, somebody was clamoring all offseason to sign a legit, veteran backup QB who knows the WCO with a quick trigger. Why? Because Tua has an injury history (more than just concussions), Skylar Thompson really wasn’t the answer, and Mike White was as worthless as Tim “The Fuck” Boyle. Oh… and that this O-Line was going to get Tua KILLED.

I was wrong on our O-Line getting Tua killed (he did it to himself), but there was NOBODY in our QB room who wouldn’t get killed by our O-Line if Tua went out, and none of these current clown QBs really know the WCO… nor have a quick trigger.

There were a couple of us here at the FMU who REALLY thought highly of Joe Milton. Well, he fell to the 6th round and we didn’t take the chance on him… but the Patsies* did.

He’s hella mobile, has a CANNON for an arm (probably the strongest arm in the NFL right now), and needed to be developed. Why didn’t Grier/McD draft him? I’m pretty sure he’s got more upside than Skylar Thompson, Mike White, Tyler Huntley, and Tim “The Fuck” Boyle… COMBINED. And Joe Milton’s cousin is none other than Anquan Boldin.

What… is 6’5″, 246 pounds, with 4.58 speed too sturdy, too much of a project in the 6th round? GTFO!

How about all that $$$ we spent on OBJ this season? Is he really a factor?

And even IF he does become a factor later on, have we dug a hole so deep we can’t climb out of it at 2-4?

It was an absolutely great run by the Mets. I loved every minute of it. It’s been way too long that us Dolphins fans could say that. 24 years since our last playoff win is almost unfathomable to me. That doesn’t change my mind at all that Grier, and McDaniel have to go if we have a losing season,. If anything it reinforces it. You have to keep trying to get it right. We need to draft a QB early, and I don’t Grier to have any part of that.

Dolphins Give Away Game To The ColtsPosted by Ryan VanHoover | Oct 20, 2024 | 2024 Season, Dolphins News | 0

I felt good about the Miami Dolphins at halftime against the Indianapolis Colts. They led 10-3 and played well in the first half. They ran the ball, and for the most part, the defense did a good job against the Colts and their young quarterback, Anthony Richardson. The Dolphins got the ball with the lead to start the second half, and this was with Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill not getting a target.

Then, in the second half, Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert fumbled the ball in their territory, and the Colts got a touchdown on the short field. Then, the Dolphins lost quarterback Tyler Huntley to injury but got a drive in the red zone.

They were running the ball well with rookie Jaylen Wright, and after Tim Boyle hit Jonnu Smith on a big 3rd down conversion, they got them in the red zone. Head coach Mike McDaniel calls for the fullback Alec Ingold to carry the ball, not his rookie running back, Wright. Ingold fumbles the ball, and the Colts get it. Why? Why give it to your fullback when your rookie running back had some good runs?

The Colts went downfield for a field goal. Then the Dolphins got a drive going, and on 3rd and 1, once again, they gave to Ingold for no gain. The Dolphins missed a 54-yard field goal, and the game was basically over. I’m not going to go crazy on kicker Jason Sanders. That was a long kick.

I will go crazy on McDaniel for again getting away from a player who is having success running the ball. If he’s not passing, then he’s giving it to his fullback for no reason. Every team has seen them run the FB dive play in short yardage. Not only would I have given it to any of the other running backs, but I’m going for it on 4th down if they don’t make it. McDaniel should have kept going with the hot hand but, as always, gets away from it.

He also should have been more aggressive and gone for it. The offense had done well against the Colts defense, and it’s not like they were shutting them down.

The Dolphins gave this game away, and instead of being 3-3 with the potential of Tua Tagovailoa coming back, they are now 2-4. The season is on life support, and frankly, that’s being nice. McDaniel let his team down with head-scratching playcalling and decision-making. The Dolphins were the better team today, but they let the Colts off the hook, and this is the most frustrating loss of the season.

I told you in PS that Wright looked like the real deal. He should be the lead dog. Achane should be a change of pace and 3rd down guy.

  72. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Yeah, the RB position is the easiest to overcome mistakes with shear talent.

    Give Wright the damn ball!

  73. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Absolutely nothing would make me happier than to see Tua DESTROY the Cards this weekend… especially being it’s the FEST weekend!

Safe travels to all of you making the pilgrimage to see our Phins this Sunday!

  74. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I thought all of our backs had a bunch of nice runs.

  75. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I firmly believe that if/when we get a healthy Isaiah Wynn back at LG, this Offense is going to go places… especially in the running game. I also firmly believe that if/when we get a healthy River Cracraft back at WR, this Offense is going to go places.

ALL is not yet lost, but if we lose this Sunday, it’s going to be nearly impossible to dig ourselves out of the hole we’ve created.

  76. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…we have NO QB behind Tua. That’s on the GM and coach. WTF is the matter with these two? Lol.

  77. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I don’t get how Wynn will improve QB play…lol…maybe?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We’ll be able to run the ball like we had last season, when Achane got a mere crease on the left side of our O-Line, and took it for massive gains.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I never stated that getting Wynn back will improve QB play. But if ya want to play around… if opposing Defenses can’t stop our RBs by stacking the box, our WRs are going to go wild.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

My point…our QB position/unit is a disaster. Running the ball, no matter how well we run it, will improve the QB room…lol

  78. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – being totally serious and honest, I’d rather trade Hill, Holland and anyone else that will bring us back good draft compensation and then play with what’s left. I’d rather do that than presume that Tua is back and all is well, and maybe win 7-9 games and either just miss the playoffs or sneak in a d get demolished in the first RD. I think we need to fire Grier, McDaniel, and draft a QB for next year and beyond.

  79. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Our OL is better than people think, they told us

Tua, what do you think of our OL?

It doesn’t matter, I get the ball out so quick

MM, what’s the plan once Tua goes down?

Uh, duh, duh…same as every interview he does trying to think of something clever to say, instead of just answering the Q

  80. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We’re putting a fence in, tomorrow the material will be delivered, not sure how long it’s going to take

Hope to make it to D&Bs sometime before 10pm

I don’t think ya understand what I’m sayin’, Mike E, my Brother. Regardless of how we finish this season (playoffs or not), we MUST draft a QB (I’d say in the 1st round) of the ’25 Draft. IF we lose this Sunday to the Cards with the return of Tua, we may as well tank out.

It’s clear: Tua is no longer our long-term QB due to his injury history, not to mention his concussion history. His next concussion could very well do him in.

I think we’re on the same page, bud!

  82. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I say just go with the flow of the season and see what happens.

  83. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We’ve been at the mercy of this franchise fucking shit up for far too long. Is it possible they shock the world and all of a sudden resemble an actual NFL team, sure. Is it likely, and even more important, can it last? Nope, nope

  84. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Huntley never popped up and fired the damn ball, waiting to see the open man. It’s too late by then. Throw them open. Throw it!

    Tua will

  86. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I’m so disappointed in this team…especially MM.

  87. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Tua should be put back in concussion protocol!

What dumb fuck with his history of brain trauma think the best thing to do for the safety and prevention of further brain trauma would not take every precaution within the rules of the game?

    Omfg…lol!

He’s obviously still concussed as nothing else makes sense…lol

#AZCardinals LB Dennis Gardeck tore his ACL last night, sources say. Tough loss for Arizona, as the seventh-year veteran had three sack, an interception and a fumble forced in seven games this season.

The rich get richer. So much for trading Tyreek back to KC.

WR DeAndre Hopkins is being traded to Kansas City in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources.

  95. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    @flasportsbuzz

If Fins promote Eskridge for a final time this weekend, then they would need to clear out only one roster spot this week (for Tua).

If they sign a receiver to 53, they would need to clear out two spots on the 53… (We’ll get Huntley update from McDaniel later today.)
