2024 Season – Game 7 – Cardinals @ Dolphins

It’s the Fest Game folks, so I’m putting aside all the negativity that’s usually laid on pretty thick, and well deserved I might add, for this one magical week. It’s our annual get together, and one I so very much look forward to. I think this is year 13, which to me is amazing. I’m thankful that this group has stuck together all this time, and can’t wait to see everyone again. What’s nice is this particular game has the potential to have some magical moments of its own, with the return of QB Tua Tagovailoa. We know he struggled before getting injured, and this offense never really got in stride with him at the helm this season, but this week is an opportunity to really have a strong game. The O-line is relatively healthy, we should have all 3 RB’s (Mostert, Achane and Wright) in good shape, and you just know that both WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are itching to have an offensive breakout. This game against an Arizona Cardinals team that just lost their best pass rusher, OLB Dennis Gardeck who is on IR, is a team we should be able to handle. Their defense has been generous, allowing 25.4 PPG, and they’re one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. This is one of those games where we can methodically run the ball, and then open some big plays in the passing game.

Tua coming back is such a boost to the team, you have to think that Waddle and Hill are just salivating knowing they finally have someone who can deliver them the football. If I told you before the season that after 6 games, Tyreek Hill would have 294 yards receiving, and played in all six games, you’d say I was crazy. On that same token, if I told you that Jaylen Waddle would only have 269 yards receiving, and that combined, these 2 great WR’s have only ONE receiving TD, again, you’d think me mad. That’s how bad this offense has been. Right now though, the RB’s are feasting, and I’m not the only one that feels this way, but rookie Jaylen Wright should be the workhorse back. He looks great, agile, slippery, quick, powerful, and has good vision and anticipation. This is not the time to worry about guys contracts, like Raheem Mostert, and you really don’t want RB De’Von Achane getting too many touches if you want him to be around for the entire season. Let’s start giving Wright more carries, Mostert can be the #2 guy, and then find Achane for some big plays here and there, maybe even in a 2 back set on 3rd and 5 or less.

Besides Tua coming back, we potentially get a boost in the secondary as well, as CB Cam Smith is set to make his season debut coming off of IR. The fact that CB’s Kader Kohou and Storm Duck are both hurting, Kohou with a neck injury and Duck with an ankle injury, Smith may get a good amount of playing time. CB’s Jalen Ramsey and Kendall Fuller are the starters, and special Teams ace Siran Neal will also get some snaps at CB as well. CB Ethan Bonner will also potentially get some snaps, but I think the Dolphins want to see what they have in Cam Smith. Kohou has not been ruled out, either has Duck, but a fully healthy Cam Smith may finally have his time to shine.

Last week, TE Jonnu Smith, who I, and many others here felt could really have a big season here in Miami finally had his breakout game. Jonnu had 7 catches for 96 yards and a TD, and just think how precious and few receiving TD’s have been for these Dolphins. Just imagine, that was the first Dolphins TE touchdown reception in 23 games. Unbelievable! I know there will be the temptation to throw to Hill and Waddle who have been languishing in the absence of Tua Tagovailoa, but Jonnu Smith should not be ignored. Of course I want to see Waddle and Hill be Waddle and Hill for a change, but it doesn’t have to be at the expense of TE Jonnu Smith. Keep feeding him the ball, and use him in the red zone, where the smaller Hill and Waddle don’t have the physical presence Jonnu has. If you saw his TD reception, he weaved and ran through a bunch of defenders to get his TD, it was very impressive. We need more of that!

Once again, I can’t wait to see all of you, this will be the latest arrival for my family and I, I had to work, but I will be ready to party once we get there. Some day, we can get a few of our regulars down in FLA, Tim, Randy and M13. I know they would have a blast! Tim did experience a NE Fest at the Meadowlands, and I know he thoroughly enjoyed it, but we need to get him to experience the real Fest of Fests, a Florida Fest. Now none of us have ever met M13, it would be special to get that done at a Fest. We do get the wonderful Doggy family back this week, I look very much forward to seeing them again. We also get the almighty one, Jahn as well, and some of the usual attendees, Stanger and Hulk, Sonny and his family, Toba and Dar, Herd (now a regular), Krishna, Twice, Steve, Robert and others, too excited to remember everyone, don’t hate me! See y’all soon!

    Tim,

Admittedly, I was pretty much done with Tua already, but come on. There’s no need to do that. As the guy making all the money and hasn’t even been playing….take the hit and move on. You belittle fans by making it sound like catching a hard snap is a Herculean feat…okay…but then you drag your center into it? Douche. If you have to CYA, just say you guys gotta work on snaps moving forward or some shit like that.

He looked like my son when he was 8 trying to get out of something. Lol

  2. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Geez just pointed out what I was reading.

So I haven’t been reading we should fire Grier, McDaniel and replace Tua? I’m making that up?

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

NOPE! I have been writing that, so it is very likely you HAVE read that on here. It’s how I feel so live with it or keep scrolling scrolling scrolling keep that mouse a rolling ignore us when we’re trolling

  3. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Tim is exactly right. I think Mike has been done with Tua for a while, most people are done with Grier, and more people are getting on board with bye bye McD. It’s not everyone but it’s been a prevalent discussion topic and pretty much a huge part of my posts. It’s ok that he’s right.

This reinforces that Tua is trash though. Dude just can’t take criticism. He’s like an 8 yr old child. It’s embarrassing for the expensive dude that’s supposed to be the face of the franchise. Dude needs his diaper changed. He’s always acting like he should be above any criticism because we aren’t NFL players. No duh, moron. We also don’t make $50+ million every year. Glad you’re smarter than a pineapple…if barely. It’s not difficult to catch a shotgun snap. Other QBs do it all the time. Maybe if that lazy bastard had practiced snaps with the C during the time he was off for injury, he wouldn’t be so rusty. But, hey, he doesn’t make 50 mill to do those kinds of things. Just to be a salty little bitch…which is exactly what he is.

  4. Ken's avatar Ken says:

This blog is in the middle of a giant tantrum. Holy shit we need a huge dose of midol or something

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think it’s more like we need a huge dose of winning. 2-5 is deserving of all the bitching and criticism. At this point it’s either bitch or just stop watching and give up on the team altogether

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

No doubt we could use some winning but I feel like I am in a Japanese anime with a bunch of punk bitches. And don’t anyone get offended. I include myself as a punk bitch

  5. Ken's avatar Ken says:

OMG Jets appeared to score a TD but it was determined on replay that the runner let go of the ball before crossing the goal line and it rolls out of the end zone so it is a touch back. Priceless

  6. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol…to be clear, I haven’t advocated for the firing of anybody, EXCEPT Crossman. Why the fuck does he have a job?!

My critique was directed at Tua and his puny response to the safety the Dolphins took because of him.

IMO, there is NO room or reason for the franchise QB to boast of his field vision, catching abilities, and superior skillsets while comparing himself to fans eating potato chips, AND THEN, blame his center that he could have done better.

WTF kinda leader is that?! Are you fucking kidding me…lol. It’s a simple question…lol…and only one question!

  7. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I’m the kinda person who doesn’t follow anyone / I walk my own way. There are few people that can lead, imo, me included (or begrudgingly).

After hearing Tua’s presser, I would not follow him, he would not be a leader for me. That’s just the way it is…lol.

  8. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I wish PhinPhanatic had a comment’s section! Because I would lambast Brian Miller every day for his doucheyness.

Miller thinks that “Tua Claps back at his critics in the most awesome way possible”

    Ignorant dickhead

  9. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So my question from earlier in the year seems to still not have been answered.

“What is it going to take to make some of you see how shitty this team has been built?” 2-4, 2-5, 2-6?

Well 2-6 is coming this weekend. And let’s not think about how it’s been since Sept of ’22 the last time we won against the Bills.

So 2-6 wont do it because we already expect to lose to the Bills regularly. How about when we hit 2-7 after the loss to the 3-5 rams?

My guess is that apologists will continue to apologize.

  10. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Lol….oh Rock…you were missed at the fest, at least by this blogger…lol

  11. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ken – I get it, but this team was gearing up for a Super Bowl run, and instead we might be fighting for a top 5 draft pick. I know the Yankees disappointed in the WS but they got there, and that’s awesome. Same for the Mets who made it to the NLCS, and gave the Dodgers a little scare. If they lose this weekend against the Bills, it’s over, and I think heads should roll if we finish under .500. It’s franchise Hari Kari to allow Grier to choose our next QB and more, and since it appears that MM and Tua are a package, it’s time to lose that package.

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Ranting at the airport, why not?

  13. Randy's avatar Randy says:

This team is not now and hasn’t been a SB contender in decades unless you just believe every team in the league is a contender. That shit is just old, and this team and its players talk too damn much and do very little.

  14. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I don’t think I’ve ever sat on my couch and ate potato chips while I watched a football game. Maybe Tua was doing exactly that while he sat on his ass for 5 weeks, and the residual oil on his hands is why he flubbed the snap and cost us the game. Lol

  15. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Jaguars trade OT Cam Robinson and a 2026 7th round pick to Vikings for a 2026 5th round pick.

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    I didn’t see this one:

Seattle traded LB Jerome Baker and a 2025 4th round pick to the Titans for LB Ernest Jones.

  17. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Also, Chiefs add more pass rush.

Chiefs traded a 2026 6th round pick to Patriots for OLB Josh Uche.

  18. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Ravens trade for former decent Steelers receiver.

Ravens traded a 2025 5th round pick to Panthers for WR Diontae Johnson and a 2025 6th round pick.

  19. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I liked the signing of DT Naquan Jones to our PS but was confused why he never made it to our 53.

He got poached off our PS by the Cardinals. Since joining the Cardinals 53 man roster, he has 14 tackles, 2 sacks with 3 QB hits.

  20. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Mike Tannenbaum is such a lunatic.

He said the lions should trade 3 first round picks, 1 second round pick and RB Jahmyr Gibbs to the Browns for Myles Garrett.

Is this where Grier got this habit from???

  21. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Panthers are actively shopping QB Bryce Young.

    No thank you!

  22. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Hey, I went to that Phinfanatics site someone posted earlier. I don’t go there, so I know nothing about them. They had an article saying the Dolphins should draft USC’s Monheim in the 2nd. I’ve watched him several times this year now that they’re in the Big 50. USC’s OL is not good, but I didn’t think Monhiem stood out at center. He’s clearly their best OL but that’s not saying much. And, there’s no way he can do what Brewer does in the movement game. He’d really have to be a guard in our system, and I don’t think I’d look at him before the 3rd.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I agree, they should have left him at OT or put him at OG. He has struggled a bit at center but their whole OL seems to be a mess at times. Could be a blessing in disguise and he drops. If he is there where we pick in the 4th at #110 (for now) I might take him, better yet top of 5th at #147.

I think taking him at #42 is a huge reach.

I do like his other picks but I think we need an ILB more than another CB.

Would love to get TE Tyler Warren at #42. Actually, after the Jets loss, it’s pick #41.

  23. Ken's avatar Ken says:

CJ Stroud has really dropped off

  24. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I like Warren, but do you see MM wanting a guy like him? He’s a Swiss knife guy, but he’s not fast or quick. He doesn’t really seem to fit with how they’ve drafted or how they use guys.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think it is time to upgrade over Smythe and Warren gives us a better receiving option over Hill.

I think Loveland goes earlier than we pick in the 2nd but I think Warren is better anyway.

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

It’s a rather weak draft and got an offer from Ravens I couldn’t refuse.

Traded 2025 #10 pick for Ravens 2025 #23 and #54, starting LG Patrick Mekari, 2026 2nd and 2026 3rd. Traded down later with Chargers picking up an extra 7th.

PICK: 23 RND: 1 Tyler Booker OG Alabama

PICK: 42 RND: 2 Tyler Warren TE Penn State

PICK: 54 RND: 2 Jay Higgins ILB Iowa

PICK: 98 RND: 3 Derrick Harmon DT Oregon

PICK: 99 RND: 3 Billy Bowman Jr. S Oklahoma

PICK: 111 RND: 4 Jaxson Dart QB Ole Miss

PICK: 148 RND: 5 Tez Johnson WR Oregon

PICK: 158 RND: 5 Woody Marks RB USC

PICK: 181 RND: 6 Kurtis Rourke QB Indiana

PICK: 225 RND: 7 Aubrey Burks S West Virginia

PICK: 226 RND: 7 J.C. Davis OT Illinois

PICK: 234 RND: 7 Cody Simon ILB Ohio State

PICK: 251 RND: 7 Thor Griffith DT Louisville

We would have a very solid IOL with Mekari, Brewer and Booker. Had to double down on QB but the homer in me says Rourke doesn’t last this long, Dart either.

  26. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Another TE I am interested in is Harold Fannin Jr. from Bowling Green. He is on the smaller side but plays bigger. Lines up in line and slot. He reminds me a lot of a smaller Jannu Smith but a better, more physical blocker.

    This year vs PSU:

  27. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I like DT Derrick Harmon. This is from last year at Michigan State. He transferred to Oregon this year. Reminds me a little of Wilkins but not sure if he has the same motor as him.

Week 9, this weekend, will be the first time the Lions will be playing outdoors this season. They are the 3rd team in NFL history to not play outside until November. The other two are the Saints and Falcons.
