2024 Season – Game 16 – Dolphins @ Browns

It’s very likely that our Dolphins are eliminated from Playoff contention before we play on Sunday at 4:05PM. The NFL rightfully flexed this awful game out of it’s original lofty Sunday Night spot. The Los Angeles Chargers will probably have dispatched the New England Patriots, the Indianapolis Colts will probably beat the NY Giants, and the Denver Broncos may just outlast the Cincinnati Bengals. All of these things don’t have to happen, just one will suffice. Even if both the Chargers and Broncos lose, they also need to lose next week as well. Let’s just get it over with, our team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs, they are pretenders, not contenders. For those of you still rooting, sorry – not sorry. Game time temps in Cleveland are expected to be near 60 degrees, so the lowly Dolphins won’t even get a chance to kill the “We can win in the cold” narrative. No, they can continue to be teams worse than us though, this they have shown they are capable of.

The Browns are a terrible team, scoring just 16.3 PPG good for 31st in the NFL. The defense isn’t much better, 26th in the NFL allowing 25.3 PPG. At 3-12, they’re more than happy to lose to continue to be competitive in one thing only, a better draft slot. Our Dolphins will fight like Lions now, now that we’re a sneeze away from being eliminated from the playoffs, we’ll probably wallop the Browns, and Tua will throw for 350 yards with an 85% completion rate and everyone will be joyous! I don’t care what we do in this game, because like most of you feel, you’re probably right that both Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel are both safe. If I was as shitty at my job as either of these 2 clowns, I’d be long gone. I’m better at writing than either of those jokers are at their respective jobs, despite my penchant for commas!

If I had to root for anything, I’ll root for Zach Sieler and Chop Robinson to keep playing at a high level. A loss in this game would be a shocker no doubt, but somehow “Teflon Chris” will keep his job, as will Mike McDaniel, Tua’s biggest fan. I’ll also root for Jonnu, who is a bright spot for this team on offense. I also have him in FF in the Championship game, so hopefully #1 remembers to use him. Jason Sanders has had an excellent year as well, and I also have him on my FF squad, so I’ll root for him. I think mostly I just feel contempt for this team. Grier is a very smug character, and when I look at what he tried to do, and view the results, he’s nothing but a failure. His guy Ross gave him the OK to go for it, mortgage the future, and in that endeavor, we’re 7-8 on the outside looking in, and soon that gate will close on us and all the Dolphins will be seeing the playoffs from their living room couches. Using Tua as an excuse is pathetic. That’s not an appropriate excuse, because you got caught with your pants down betting he would stay healthy. They bet hard, and bet a lot! WE ALL LOST THAT ONE!

If it was intentional, the driver couldn’t have been going after Trump other than in the symbolic sense.

    ————

Absolutely agreed, Stanger. I view it to be symbolic and it bears the signs of trying to drive a huge wedge between Trump and Elon… which is what one political party has been up to as of late.

We’ll find out more as the hours and days go by, so I don’t want to over-speculate right now. All we really know is that it certainly was meant to send a message.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

One party trying to drive a wedge btwn Trump and Musk? Seems the main one trying to do it is Steve Bannon. Think he is jealous.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

        Nothing would surprise me, man.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IF Bannon has anything to do with this, it would be a literal case of trying to pin the tail on the donkey (Dems).

How’s that for political humor? LOL 🙂

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“IF Bannon has anything to do with this” — Bannon has been attacking Musk hard over the last couple weeks. No “if” about that part.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

        I don’t doubt ya, Stanger!

“Pin the tail on the donkey” was an attempt at political humor, being the donkey is the moniker of the Dems. Maybe the joke just sucked! LOL

  3. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Here’s where I’m at with this 2024 team. I didn’t/don’t believe we’re going anywhere in the playoffs, so I really wanted to get the best Draft pick possible as of a few weeks ago. However, and now that we’re SO close to making the playoffs, I want to see us make it in.

Who knows… maybe we surprise the world and make a remarkable run in the playoffs being it essentially becomes a new season… if you’re not overwhelmed with injuries.

Additionally — and being most indicators point to Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel being retained, regardless — I want to believe in Miami miracles.

YES(!!!), I want to see us prove the world wrong about us now!!!

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

It’s not in our control. The Chiefs should sit most of their players and lose. But anything can happen. Remember a few years ago in a similar situation when we played the BIlls and a win could get us in. Their receivers were catching the ball and going down instead of going for YAC. They beat us good in that one.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m really hoping that Carson Wentz is trying to put some stellar film out there to get a better deal for next season. If he can do that, the Chefs* have a chance.

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Completely accept Chiefs starting Wentz. Dolphins starting Huntley though, WOW!

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

If ya ask me, there’s something OFF with the story and excuse of Tua’s hip. If the story is truly correct that he’s in danger if he plays (regarding the hip), that’s scary.

The whole timeline is off regarding the week leading up to the Brownies game… it doesn’t make sense to me.

What is it you believe is going on and to what end?

    ————–

I’m honestly not sure, Brother. Tua is willing to play through ANYTHING, and that’s part of his problem that has caused his medical issues (hip, ankles, and concussions). He won’t pull himself out of a game when he SHOULD, dating back to Alabama.

Worst case scenario? This hip issue is REAL and his career could be at risk. Best case scenario? The FO held him out last game, just in order to get a better Draft pick… and it backfired. Perhaps his hip is alright.

After the 49ers game when he allegedly reaggravated his hip injury, he should have been pulled from the game immediately… but that’s on Tua and his propensity to play through injury… even big boo boos don’t stop the Tua.

But that it took until Friday to announce that he may not play (DOUBTFUL) is suspect to me.

Regardless, and you and I have been on the same page the whole time Mike E, we need to draft a QB in ’25. Tua’s next concussion could be curtains for him… and now perhaps his hip is a real scare as well.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Looks like Huntley is going to start but Tua is still getting limited practice time in. That seems odd, if he’s hurt and can’t play, why practice? Once again, to me it doesn’t matter to me whether it’s McDaniel, or Grier, or both, or just Tua himself making the decision not to play. It’s a ridiculous situation, because we’ve seen Mahomes play with a high ankle sprain, Allen play with a concussion and Burrow play injured. I think Josh Allen would play with an amputated arm. The net result is this team is fucked. They paid this injury prone QB top money and protect him at the expense of the team. How does any of that make sense?

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“The net result is this team is fucked.” — maybe they shouldn’t have given Tua the big contract and maybe he is as fragile as an egg with a crack in it, but the guy sure can play when he is healthy.

  15. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

in today’s NFL you need a dual threat QB or a top OL (Lions), Huntley is one of those type of QBs, can he be consistent?

Bills know how to defend Tua, maybe Huntley can frustrate them some and give us a chance, should we make playoffs

no reason really to play Tua the rest of the year, maybe in relief, but not starting, I’d say that’s our only chance

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I could say there’s no reason to ever play him again!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

we need to evaluate Snoop, 2+ more would be great

What Mike E. said about the team

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – sure can play as long as we’re not playing a good team. We need to aim higher! A high priced QB who misses games and can’t play up to the level of the competition seems like a luxury with a salary cap in place

  21. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Tua has 83m in dead money, if cut before 2025, so we’re on the hook next year for his 39m cap hit, meaning he’s playing next year

BUT it would only cost 25m in dead money to cut him before 2026 season and if post June 1st 8.4m would be counted against 2026 cap

if Snoop can continue to, somehow, play like he did against Cleveland, i could see us getting away from Tua after 2025

big IF, but we really aren’t locked to Tua forever

if Tua goes MM would probably get the 👢

  22. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

reason I said Tua should be shutdown for the year is, because it’s mostly a lost season, that could be disastrous should he play and hurt it further and be lost for most of 2025

I’m not looking for big things in 2025, I’m looking for some smoke and mirrors, while using 2 QBs, sometimes in the same game Snoop2viloa

when the matchup is right start that QB

we need to great wildcat creative

Grier will be retained, so we won’t be able to do it on talent alone, we’ll need to use a fuzzy scheme

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

and if we get more than the 1 sack a game, we got this year, the D may be able to cover receivers adequately, then you’ll see what a real top 5 D looks like

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That was my look into the future

a little, tiny bit of OL would go along way too

  23. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

    Marcel Louis-Jacques

The Dolphins did not have any players selected to play in the 2025 Pro Bowl Games

  24. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the problem with our O is we need, on a scale, 12 yards to get a 1st down, when the good teams need more like 8 (Allen, tush push…)

we get to 2nd and 1 and it’s like we better pick this up, we need to change it to once we get to 3rd and 4 or less it’s automatic

until we can change that culture, the 🧁 will continue to frustrate the hell out of us

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

ILB Cody Simon was playing possessed yesterday. Finished with 11 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 TFL. 1 PD.

  28. Randy's avatar Randy says:

This team can’t even tank a season correctly.

  29. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

We currently have the #15 pick.

If we lose and the three 7-9 teams win, we end up at #12 (unlikely, but could happen).

If we win could fall back to #17 (#19 if we make the playoffs), but that would include the two other 8-8 teams losing.

But the hard window is #12 – #17 (unless we hit the playoffs).

  30. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    stanger,

6-2 record with wins against teams with a combined record of about 15-50. Not impressed at all.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Texans and Green Bay have 20 wins btwn them. You saying the six we beat only had 15? Worst teams in the league have 3. But I get the point. No doubt we beat some dogs.

  31. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’ll see what happens, but it’s fun that we still have a chance. I’m not worried about our draft spot. There are always good prospects available and sometimes other rounds pan out better than some 1st round picks.

  32. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Does it really matter 10-20 in the draft, then just try to land a few in top 100….just nail the pick! Number pick doesn’t really matter as the rounds progress….imo, lol

  33. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    stanger,

I’m just a frustrated fan, and I’m tired of this team talking the talk and never walking the walk. I hate losing….even if I have nothing to do with it.

I also think we sometimes forget that draft picks have more value than just the player chosen. It also has trade value. A higher picks gives you more…and hopefully…better trade options.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

If you factor in Tua’s injuries, this season went just as I expected. So not sure what I have to complain about. But I get your point on draft picks…… but still gonna root for us to beat the Jets, especially when a potential playoff game is involved.

  34. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    stanger,

I figured another 10 +/- 1 win season with my logical brain. My fan brain always hopes for more. It’s not so much the record. It’s how they’ve managed and built this team. I think a healthy probably gets us 1 more win…maybe 2. I still have little hope this team is built to compete for a championship. I don’t think Grier, MM or Tua are the guys to get it done.

Im still rooting for a win this weekend. I always do…but that doesn’t mean I can’t still see the logic behind getting a better draft pick.

  35. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

based on the drafts spots we might get win or lose, it’s not a big enough jump to tank

if we were to win 1 or 2 playoff games we could drop back quite a bit, no one would complain about that though
