2024 Season – Game 16 – Dolphins @ Browns

It’s very likely that our Dolphins are eliminated from Playoff contention before we play on Sunday at 4:05PM. The NFL rightfully flexed this awful game out of it’s original lofty Sunday Night spot. The Los Angeles Chargers will probably have dispatched the New England Patriots, the Indianapolis Colts will probably beat the NY Giants, and the Denver Broncos may just outlast the Cincinnati Bengals. All of these things don’t have to happen, just one will suffice. Even if both the Chargers and Broncos lose, they also need to lose next week as well. Let’s just get it over with, our team doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs, they are pretenders, not contenders. For those of you still rooting, sorry – not sorry. Game time temps in Cleveland are expected to be near 60 degrees, so the lowly Dolphins won’t even get a chance to kill the “We can win in the cold” narrative. No, they can continue to be teams worse than us though, this they have shown they are capable of.

The Browns are a terrible team, scoring just 16.3 PPG good for 31st in the NFL. The defense isn’t much better, 26th in the NFL allowing 25.3 PPG. At 3-12, they’re more than happy to lose to continue to be competitive in one thing only, a better draft slot. Our Dolphins will fight like Lions now, now that we’re a sneeze away from being eliminated from the playoffs, we’ll probably wallop the Browns, and Tua will throw for 350 yards with an 85% completion rate and everyone will be joyous! I don’t care what we do in this game, because like most of you feel, you’re probably right that both Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel are both safe. If I was as shitty at my job as either of these 2 clowns, I’d be long gone. I’m better at writing than either of those jokers are at their respective jobs, despite my penchant for commas!

If I had to root for anything, I’ll root for Zach Sieler and Chop Robinson to keep playing at a high level. A loss in this game would be a shocker no doubt, but somehow “Teflon Chris” will keep his job, as will Mike McDaniel, Tua’s biggest fan. I’ll also root for Jonnu, who is a bright spot for this team on offense. I also have him in FF in the Championship game, so hopefully #1 remembers to use him. Jason Sanders has had an excellent year as well, and I also have him on my FF squad, so I’ll root for him. I think mostly I just feel contempt for this team. Grier is a very smug character, and when I look at what he tried to do, and view the results, he’s nothing but a failure. His guy Ross gave him the OK to go for it, mortgage the future, and in that endeavor, we’re 7-8 on the outside looking in, and soon that gate will close on us and all the Dolphins will be seeing the playoffs from their living room couches. Using Tua as an excuse is pathetic. That’s not an appropriate excuse, because you got caught with your pants down betting he would stay healthy. They bet hard, and bet a lot! WE ALL LOST THAT ONE!

    Thank you, Mike E!

I’ve going to Sunday HH at 4 CST. like last week…so much more fun!

  2. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Mike E,

I’m right there with ya… we’re already out of the playoffs, though not technically. As such, I’d rather play for a better Draft pick… but we know that isn’t going to happen.

I’d almost rather rest our starters over the next 2 games so we don’t incur another Bradley Chubb-type injury this late in the season.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Just imagine if ‘Reek or Ramsey tear an MCL in these last 2 meaningless games. That would be devastating to our ’25 season.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, that would really suck. On the other hand, I want Patrick Paul playing, don’t need to see any more of Terron.

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Congrats Navy! Holding off Oklahoma on their 2 point conversion attempt was nice!

  4. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Both Chargers and Broncos play on Saturday, so we will know by 7pm tomorrow if we are eliminated or not.

  5. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Let BP play and get important reps!

  6. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    PP is taken! Lol…

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

This is supposedly one of the worst drafts in history. I have no idea if that’s true, and I think it’s kinda pointless to rate drafts before they happen. That said, are 2 more wins worth 7 picks or whatever it would be? I don’t know. I’m always okay with winning.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      Two things . . .

      1. Not sure 7 draft spots make a difference with Grier in charge.
      2. Wins for this team now against the 3-12 Browns and the potentially 4-12 Jets just inflate our record to a winning 9-8 record which arms Grier with another winning season on his resume by notching victories against 2 teams probably trying just as hard to lose as we are to win
  8. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

To be clear, I’m not rooting to lose, the interest/fun for the season is over for me. That’s all…lol.

Part of my fun is watching the Dolphins play competitive, good games with the ultimate goal of winning a SB. I know that feeling. This isn’t it…sorry, not sorry…lol

  9. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

What can we control at this point in time? Well, not even our own destiny at this point as it applies to making the playoffs (PLAYOFFS?!!). Face it, we’re OUT.

However, we CAN control (without clearly tanking at this point) where we select in the ’25 NFL Draft. And IF this Draft in ’25 sucks so badly (as Randy pointed out above), then perhaps we can trade for better picks in the ’26 Draft.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat, as the saying goes.

But if we win-out, we’re going to be in Draft pergatory once again.

  10. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yes, Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel WILL be retained going into the ’25 season, so there’s that.

  11. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“because like most of you feel, you’re probably right that both Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel are both safe.” — we weren’t really saying that shouldn’t happen Grumpy Cat…. just that it wouldn’t. Happy Holidays.

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    LMAO @ Grumpy cat 🤣

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Stanger – I’m not a grumpy guy, but the Dolphins can really make me grumpy

  14. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Picking either at #12 or #18 won’t affect things in this draft unless they are targeting a specific player.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Again, we have had the easiest schedule in the entire NFL. Therefore, any team we finish tied with the same record, we will pick before them.

I am not pulling for us to lose. I am just pulling for the teams we have the same record as right now to win also.

  15. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Randy, as far as any superstars, it is a weak draft at all positions except RB and maybe TE.

    Safety class is decent.

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

After the Seahawks/Bears game the Tankathon simulator picked for us:

    #12 Jalon Walker, 6’2 245, LB/Edge, Georgia

    #48 T.J Sanders, 6’5 295, DT/DE, South Carolina

    #98 Jonah Monheim, 6’5 310, IOL, USC

#99 Jaxson Dart, 6’2 225, QB, Ole Miss

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m not a fan of Jalon Walker. Sure, there’s potential/upside there, but he’s so raw as a pass-rusher. His speed alone is the only reason why he’s in the convo of a top-20 pick, as he doesn’t demonstrate skill.

      BIG TIME PROJECT, IMO.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Now if Jalon Walker falls to the 2nd round (he will NOT), I’d take the chance on him, to pair with Chop Robinson.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I feel the same but he plays both ILB and OLB. That is the main reason for not having huge sack #’s.

I just don’t know how he is at ILB. To have an ILB that is 6’2, 245 and run a 4.5 forty would be nice.

I just fear he would be like the last Georgia LB we drafted with no instincts.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

From draftbuzz- “Scheme fit will be crucial for Walker’s early success. A defensive coordinator who can utilize his versatility in multiple packages will maximize his impact. He could thrive in a 3-4 system that allows him to alternate between inside and outside roles, similar to his usage at Georgia.”

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

From the tape I’ve seen thus far, Walker SUCKS as an ILB/MLB. He’s a liability there.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Could he be coached-up? For sure! I just don’t see him being a day-1 starter, regardless of his position designation.

  17. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

If Chris Grier wants to save his job, he’d BETTER find a day 1 starter in the 1st round of the ’25 Draft.

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – He’s going to have to not just find a starter in RD 1, he better find a few starters in this draft, and they better play well too! We have so few players coming back on the roster and little money to pay. I can just imagine the players we’ll be paying for in Free Agency. Probably a whole lot more 1 YR contracts. Then everyone can say “Well, the team never really got a chance to jell”. As if that’s a fucking excuse, it’s a symptom of building a team the wrong way year after year!

  19. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

For those on the Wilkins and Hunt gravy train neither lived up to their bloated deals and didn’t stay healthy. I can only imagine the ire from fans if we signed them to big money. Totally different narrative towards Grier. Be honest.

  20. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Oregon RT Ajani Cornelius, 6’5 315 is another one I think could move in and play RG. He should be available around the end of 3rd round. He’s #65.

  21. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

I wasn’t really advocating one way over another just that as a fan I’m always OK with my team winning. I haven’t agreed with how they’ve built this team from the start so anything they do at this point really doesn’t matter that much to me because I don’t think it’ll make a difference. You can’t begin building a team from the outside in and then after 3 years decide you’re gonna tweak it and make some major difference. We may be a fringe playoff team again next year, and fans will get all excited about another 10 win season and possible playoff berth. It won’t matter. They’ve built this team in such a way that it can’t compete when it matters. The foundation of this team is porous, so it will crumble when pressure is applied.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I hear ya, I think it just irks me when the media and fans alike defend Grier because we may win 9 games and could have won more if Tua stayed healthy. I don’t want to hear that shit even if it is just that, shit!

  22. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – There’s a big difference between signing guys who play every game, and not just every game but 80% or more of the snaps in every game, and signing guys like Tua, Chubb, Phillips, Wynn, Armstead etc. Wilkins didn’t miss any time while he played here, so if he got injured here after signing a big contract, that would be bad luck. The guys I mentioned are hurt so often, it’s such a huge risk to pay them big money, or even to count on them to be able to be there. I think Grier has been awful at that, and then to compound this, he had no viable backup for Tua. That I would blame more on MM, but Grier shouldn’t have allowed himself to be convinced that Skylar was sufficient. I’ve been seeing that Tyler Huntley will probably be back here next season, he better not be the #2 QB.

  23. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Mike comes right out of the gate in sentences one and two trashing this team and speaking truths 😂😂😂

  24. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

our game at Browns was supposed to be the Sunday night game, it was switched to the 4pm window saving us a few degrees🤪

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I would like to bring Bell back also.

  26. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

  27. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @CameronWolfe

Dolphins have elevated 3rd string QB Skylar Thompson to active roster – a sign that Tua Tagovailoa won’t be available to play vs. Browns with his hip injury. Snoop Huntley would be in line to start. Miami also placed CB Kendall Fuller on injured reserve.

  28. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So something clearly changed between 3 pm Thursday and Friday evening, during which Tua was a limited Friday practice participant

Tua, asked how his hip is feeling 25 hours ago: “I mean it’s good. It’s just like anyone else on the team and anyone else around the league. You get banged up little bit towards the ending of the year so just got to take care of that.” x.com/flasportsbuzz/…

    —————–

Muahahaha!!! Playing for a better Draft pick!

  29. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Now the apologists can come out defending everything because the elite Tua missed too many games.

Everyone can feel good because this would have been a Super Bowl contender if he stayed healthy all year. Yay!

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Did you watch the games when Tua was out? They were brutal. Hard not to figure them in.

My prediction on opening day was 10-7 and most likely a wild card spot (sometimes 10-7 won’t do it). No Superbowl was involved. What were you thinking?

  30. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I guess you have to be a part of the ornery club to have different opinions here these days. This place is becoming like The View. 😔

  31. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I wonder if Tua’s hip issue is related to his dislocation back in 2019.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I highly doubt it. I firmly believe we’re tanking for a better draft pick. NOTHING keeps Tua out… he’ll even try to play through concussions. This order came down from on high (the FO).

  32. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We might need to trade up to get Cam Ward

  33. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

With the Chargers winning and clinching a playoff berth, the Dolphins need a Broncos loss at Cincinnati here now to avoid elimination.

Cool of Cam Ward to not sit out the bowl game.

  37. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

It’s all good to engage, man! Don’t EVER think your input isn’t worth thought, even if it goes against said ‘grain’. There are plenty of positives to build upon.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve never been one to castigate another for difference of football opinion. Now politics? That’s a whole ‘nutha deal! LOL 😉

      Keep being yourself, Tim!

  38. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Ward makes some sick throws! That one to the TE earlier was ridiculous. It reminded me of the needle Tua threaded last year in the endzone to Tyreek.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

INDEED! Thus, I’d rather trade up from R1P10 than from R1P19 to land Cam Ward… if that’s what we might be moving towards.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

NOT saying that’s what we’re moving towards… but rather, a better Draft pick by not starting Tua tomorrow.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

NOBODY can tell me that Tua’s hip is so bad (especially after he said he’d be good to go on late Thursday), that he can’t throw screen-passes all day… which he’s done all season. Think about it…

  39. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

    Stanger

I had them at 8-9 . 9-8 is a losing season as far as I’m concenred too since no more .500 is possible. This is a perenniall mediocre team built with hopes and dreams from the front office. Lol

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

      I said 10-7, silly me.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Same as me. But aas I remember 10-7 put us on the less optomistic portion of the prediction spectrum. And heck — we could still have 9 wins. Even if Tua stays out maybe not.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

ER — sounds like you pegged it just about right. Great prediction. And heck yeah we’ve been a fringe playoff team for a good number of years. That still means consistently average. There is worse.

  40. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Is it me or there a kid named Cam Ward in every draft?

  41. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel is damn near a carbon-copy of Tua in terms of quick release, anticipation, and accuracy. He’s just a tad smaller (he can add weight), he’s a better scrambler, he was born in Hawaii (just like Tua), and he’s even a south-paw… just like Tua.

Gabriel would be the perfect system-fit for Coach McD’s Offense.

  42. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Damn, Ward has some touch on his throws

  43. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’d pegged us at 12-5… and it’s possible it could have happened had Tua not run head-first into Damar Hamlin, resulting in the concussion that kept him out during our 0-4 run against shitty teams.

  44. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

BTW, trading Tua pre 6/1 caused an extra 19 mil cap hit. However, designate Chubb a post 6/1 release and you just covered that 19 mil with 1 mil left over.

That extra 19 mil cap hit is the rest of his guaranteed money and he would be off the books in 2026 and beyond.

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Maybe they can have a soft schedule again next year with a real back up at QB. Wonder if they learned their lesson yet??

  60. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

  61. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age,ER – Even if Tua stayed healthy and we went 11-6, we’d still get wiped in the playoffs

    • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

No doubt about that. Couldn’t even beat a slumping Houston team with him. No way they compete with the big boys.

Fundamental changes in personnel and philosophy need to be done. Being that half the team isn’t signed for next year that should be easy! Lol

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Gonna be hard to get it done next year, or possibly even the following year. Maybe after next year though, finally, Grier will be out on his ass, and he can take stoner boy MM with him

Let’s sit Waddle and Hill and let the Washingtons audition for starting WR too. Next year let’s trade Waddle, Hill and Tua. Not sure we’d get takers for any one of them

some dude named Snoopy is starting for the Dolphins today? What the fuck is up with that? I can’t even root for tanking at this point. Greir has to go he has to!
I don’t even care if they win or lose this apathy is the worst

  67. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I don’t know how anyone can consider Tua the answer. Not only can’t he last an old fashioned 16 week schedule, dude got a month off in the early part and can’t last a 10 week one either. Blames long season beating you up as he never figured out what a slide is. This entire organization just isn’t good enough…which is fine since Ross is almost dead. Keep them Ross/Jerry! Same kind of owner.

  68. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Still alive in week 17 and our QB can’t play. The Colts probably aren’t going to lose either game, even starting a backup today too. And the Chiefs will likely rest some starters next week, and the Broncos have played them tough even at full strength. But still, this feels like the team and QB throwing in the towel.

Imagine if the Colts lose today and we can’t get the win. Dolphins fans have every right to be apoplectic.

I wonder if Tua will have enough sense to not be caught on camera yukking it up on the sideline today. He’s a dim bulb, so probably not.

  69. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Fuck Tua, and pretty much everyone who roots for this guy. Not that I think we really have a shot to get that playoff spot, but while mathematically still alive, that fucker should be in the game. It’s a disgrace . . .

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

if you plays balls to the wall the last 2 weeks and don’t get in there will be lots of pissed off fans

if Tua plays and gets hurt, there will be lots of pissed off fans

if we get in and get crushed by Buffalo, there will be lots of pissed off fans

if you tank (what they’re doing) and get a better draft slot, less will be pissed

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Either way, it’s a systemic problem. He can’t be relied on to help this team, either because of his health, or even worse, his handlers. I pay him $55M per season, that mofo better be on that field unless he’s paralyzed. Let’s save him for next season so he can fuck that one up too.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the systemic problem is with the soft team MM built

i’m sick and tired of dolphins fans saying the team didn’t invest in a back up quarterback. they paid a back up qb $55m this year, what more could you want?!

Steve – I think MM is too much Peace, Love and Happiness. That shit doesn’t match with football

Drew Lock is having a game, perfect QB rating to this point and the Giants are up 21-6.

is that NYG taking it to the Colts? 😜

    So you’re saying there’s a chance?

Giants return the 2nd half KO for a TD, 28-13

  80. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Prediction: if Isaiah Wynn gets the majority of snaps at RG, Achane and Mostert are going to run all over the Brownies today.

  81. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Colts get a quick TD right back. Colts will probably take this game. There’s a reason the Giants are a 2 win team.

And if the Colts lose today leaving us only a single fucking Denver hurdle to clear just for us to lose today because Tua’s fragile ass can’t play, well, that would actually be just like us, so that is probably what will happen to this garbage team.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

This is what I think: Colts will lose today. Dolphins will win. Dolphins move to #8 seed. Broncos will lose next week. Dolphins will have to win on the road at the Jets in the cold to get in.

  82. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Cowgirls going to lose so Dolphins will drop to pick #14.

  83. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’d love it if we have another big game opportunity next week. Tua will probably miss it with a sprained earlobe.

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If the season was on the line for the Chiefs, Bengals or Bills, and Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen all had the same injury Tua has, no one in any of those 3 organizations are keeping any of those 3 QB’s out of the game. Seriously, just think about it. WTF is wrong with our team? It’s so fucked up from any angle

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

It’s pretty spot on, Mike E….lol.

He’s fragile, now soft. Burrow”s gotten his ass kicked, Mahomes’ ankle is fucked up.

      It is what it is….lol

  85. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Giants with a TD to go up 35-26 with 8:39 to go

  86. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Giants defense got the memo, lol, took 2 minutes for the Colts to score.
