Dolphins finish ’24 season 8-9, look to retool

Well folks, this is the aftermath of a losing season in what was supposed to be the roster that both GM Chris Grier and Head Coach Mike McDaniel built to not only win the division title in the AFC East but get into the Superbowl. Surprise, this team fell short, waaaaay short of those lofty expectations. I’ll be honest, I expected a 10-7 season and a WC Playoff berth for this team, but they couldn’t even manage that. GM Chris Grier points fingers at QB Tua Tagovailoa implying if he stayed healthy this team could have gone much further. I sit at my computer and point a finger at Chris Grier (Guess which finger) because he offered Tua a contract, namely a $212.4M contract offer that he couldn’t refuse. I can tell you that there was no other NFL team who would go anywhere near that figure, and as I made clear here I would have played Tua on his 5th year contract. If he refused, well, that’s on him, the NFL is a business, and that’s just smart business. His choices would have been to play, or sit out. Either way, this team win. Especially if you go into the offseason with that plan, because then you can keep either or both of Christian Wilkins and/or Robert Hunt and you definitely make an offer to keep OLB Andrew Van Ginkel. Alas, Grier, and Mike McDaniel swung out of their shoes and missed.

We have a lot of very expensive veteran players on this team who have not played up to their contracts. Tyreek Hill, who will make $28M in ’25, and who BTW gave himself the hook in Game 17 sometime in the 4th QTR and said “Bye, I’m out!” is one of them. He wasn’t close to the impact player he was in 2023. Jalen Ramsey didn’t play poorly this season, and DC Anthony Weaver tried to employ him in as many spots as possible, but the end result was a “meh” season. 2 INT’s in 7 games, 60 tackles (39 solo), 11 passes defensed, 1 sack and 4 QB hits. OLB Bradley Chubb never quite made it back on the field. H was injured late in the season, game 16 (12/24/23) to be specific, so we knew he was going to miss a good amount of time, but that stretched to the entire season. LT Terron Armstead gave his all, and played admirably, but relying on oft injured veteran players always leaves you short, especially when it’s Chris Grier making those decisions. Then there’s the highest paid player, none other than QB Tua Tagovailoa. This one hurts. If I’m running this team, I’d drafting a QB this year that can not only be his legitimate backup, but a player than can compete for the job. Enough getting stung by hoping/expecting him to stay healthy. Yes, in 2023, QB Tua Tagovailoa played 17 games and a then a playoff game, but any of you here with eyes saw the caution he took, ending plays with throwaways, going down willingly before a collision for a sack, and simply not taking any chances running outside the pocket with the football. We all watch games, we see winning QB’s do this routinely, because it’s necessary to win games. If Tua gets back to that kind of caution, once again we’re going nowhere, because every game has a spot or two or three where this is necessary.

As our current DC Anthony Weaver makes the circuit of interviews, it’s possible we lose one of the bright spots. A lot of fans harped on the defense for much of the season, and they weren’t completely wrong, but with the lack of anyone capable at the helm of QB in Tua’s absence, the defense was just asked to do too much, and of course, we lost OLB Jaelan Phillips in the middle of Game 3, after working so damn hard to get back on the field after suffering a torn achilles in game 11 against the NYJ on their shitty field surface at MetLife Stadium. I love that kid, and I truly admire his resolve, but he is unfortunately another talented player that can’t be relied on due to his injury proclivity. Rookie OLB Chop Robinson showed some potential and should be a bigger part of the defense. Bradley Chubb may have played his last game as a Dolphins LB 12/24/23. He may be a post June cut, or more of a longshot, be part of this defense for ’25. I’d recommend the former. DE/OLB Emmanuel Ogbah is no longer on the roster, and props to him for always doing a solid job, never whining, just suits up and does his thing. Rookie OLB Mo Kamara didn’t really get an opportunity to do anything this season, and it’s possible his role is expanded and he’s given more of a chance to be a part of this defense. If Chubb is gone, you’d have to think that would be the case because at least as of now, the only OLB’s on the roster will be Chop Robinson, Jaelan Phillips, and Grayson Murphy. We may have to use another draft pick on a pass rusher, but there are so many holes and not enough fingers or cash to plug them.

Mike McDaniel. Hero in 2023, Stoner HC not respected by his players and looking more and more out of his league in the NFL. His explosive offense in 2023 has turned into a Ryan Tannehill, Joe Philbin offense. Oh, Tua was dinking and dunking like no one’s business, he completed 72.9% of his passes! Maybe we should start counting handoffs in his completion percentage, so we can say Tua completed 99.3% of his handoffs! This offense was a dud. We couldn’t run the ball, and to me at least, it was bizarre how much the offense ran through RB/WR De’Von Achane. 203 carries and 78 receptions totaling 1499 yards and 12 TD’s, 6 rushing, 6 receiving. Rookie RB Jaylen Wright was an absolute afterthought, this after trading into the 4th RD of the ’24 draft by trading away this upcoming draft’s 3rd RD pick. That’s fine if use the kid, but Wright was never given a real opportunity in a game, getting only 68 carries and 3 receptions. Yet another failed trade up for Chris Grier. Back to McDaniel, and all the promise with the “Head Coach That Cares”. He’s turned into a mumbling. bumbling HC who apparently is not respected by his players. You have to be successful to lead a bunch of guys as their friends. You’re not ruling by fear, or by respect, just like hanging out with your boys, and when you’re losing, they don’t really wanna hang out with you. It seems a surety that both HC Mike McDaniel and GM Chris Grier are on the hot seat in2025, but then again, Ross is asleep at the ownership wheel here, and doesn’t seem to care enough about holding anyone responsible for anything with this team, as long as he gets his hot cocoa and his blankie at night.

We enter 2025 at the moment with $9M in cap space. That can improve some with a post June 1st cut of Bradley Chubb, but keep in mind that’s a long time to wait to sign players. Restructures are always possible, but that mortgages the future again, and I’d prefer that once that the 2 knuckleheads are gone that they haven’t ruined the situation to make it more difficult to find a new GM/HC combination. The exact amount of draft picks is in, but where those picks fall have yet to be determined. We know we have RD1/#13, RD 2/#48, no natural 3rd RD pick (traded for RB Jaylen Wright). We should get a compensatory pick after RD 3 for Robert Hunt. The pick for DT Christian Wilkins is muddled right now, because despite the massive contract he signed, he missed the last 12 weeks of the season, so the playing time portion of the formula for compensatory picks put that pick more likely in RD 4 than 3. We have our regular 4th RD pick, RD 4/#112, then RD 5 #142, and then RD 5 #149 (Bradley Chubb trade), RD 7/#200 and RD 7/#207 (Chase Claypool trade). We might get a compensatory pick inn the 7th RD for losing Safety DeShon Elliott, who played in 15 games for the Steelers this season.

We have a decent amount of draft capital, but man do we have a lot of holes to fill. O-line will no doubt be a priority as we have 2 OG positions to fill. That also includes praying that #52 Patrick Paul can actually nail down the LT spot next season and that RT Austin Jackson can stay healthy and play well at RT. My favorite whipping boy in the offseason was OC Aaron Brewer, but as it turned out, i was wrong and Grier hit well on an offensive lineman. He’s not an all pro, but moves very well and blocks well on the move. OG’s Robert Jones and Liam Eichenberg have to be depth guys, and then you have to hope you don’t need your depth guys too often. Whether WR Tyreek Hill has played his last game here is unknown, I’m sure he will be given every opportunity to get back in the good graces of all parties involved, but WR could become a priority of that doesn’t happen. It seems we have one very good receiving TE in Jonnu Smith, but not much else in that room. TE Durham Smythe fell out of the picture this season, and TE Julian Hill seemed to only make mistakes, penalties, missed blocks, dropped passes, you name it, he did them all, a lot. TE has to be somewhat of a priority, not necessarily in the draft, but there some TE’s some of us here love for sure in this ’25 draft.

On defense, the cupboard is really bare. We need defensive linemen, DE, NT, and then we need depth. Zach Sieler is great, but he can’t really do it all alone, he’s the only rostered DL right now. OLB has some priority, because while Chop Robinson showed promise, it’s basically Mo Kamara and Jaelan Phillips, and then possibly Bradley Chubb, if he doesn’t get cut. At inside LB, Jordyn Brooks was a very nice pickup. ILB Tyrell Dodson will be a FA, so the only other inside backer on the roster is mostly ST’s player Channing Tindall, yes, 3rd RD/#102, our very first pick in the 2022 draft. It’s possible we re-sign Dodson and bring in a few UDFA’s, but don’t expect a lot of money or draft capital at this spot. Cornerback is another high priority. Jalen Ramsey who play everywhere will be 31 mid season, so we need to find legit corners. CB Kendall Fuller who came over from the Commanders in FA had an uneven season and made little impact. That leaves unproven UDFA CB Storm Duck, Ethan Bonner, Isaiah Johnson and Jason Maitre. That’s going to ned some attention. We’re hurting at Safety as well, Jevon Holland is a FA and didn’t impress anyone this past season anyway. All we have is 2024 6th RD pick Patrick McMorris right now, and he hasn’t shown he can be a starter in the NFL. There’s lots of work to do as I mentioned, plenty of roster spots up for grabs. With the amount of cap space we have and roster positions that need to be filled, we’re going to have to do a great job hitting UDFA’s this year. Our roster is old now, although that will undoubtedly change after this offseason.

Looking at our division, the Bills are the front runners and it’s not even close. Yes, things change, but I think that’s a surety. Who’s next depends on this offseason, and right now the New England Patriots have a QB, are yet to hire a HC, but they have draft picks and cap space to play with, $133M which is the most in the NFL. The NY Jets have yet to hire a GM or HC, so we’ll see what happens there. The Jets have interviewed so many people for both jobs, but nothing has been done as of this writing. Even “Sexy Rexy” Ryan nailed down an interview. So who is 2nd in this division is unknown, but anyone that foolishly thinks it’s us, is well, foolish. The Patriots fired HC Jerod Mayo after one season and it seemed like all the world that was done to accommodate bringing in former Patriots LB Mike Vrabel, but he’s yet to be hired. Will we actually make the QB position a priority and find someone other than Tua who can run this offense? I thank the Football Gods that QB Tyler Huntley shat the bed against the Jets, because if he played well, surely he would be the backup QB for Tua. We have to identify a veteran who can play, and draft a young QB as well. Not necessarily day 1, but maybe day 2. I don’t care what round, as long as he’s given reps and a chance to play here. I’ve heard Tua wants all the reps, that ends in ’24, because Tua can’t finish a season so he doesn’t get that opportunity any longer. We need every QB on the roster capable of stepping in to a game and competing for a win. If that means less reps for Tua, so be it.

I’m not optimistic about Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel running the show this offseason, draft and beyond. In MLB, I’m a Mets fan, and have seen how wonderful change can be. Mets owner Steve Cohen has deep pockets, but in a short time, his team is already competitive and went deep into the playoffs to the NCLS, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers, WS winners in’25. The NY Knicks majority owner James Dolan is not my fave, but he finally handed the reins of President to Leon Rose, who has done a masterful job of bringing back winning to MSG, the Greatest Arena in the World. The Knicks are now a top 5 NBA team after 4 years of Leon Rose being named President. Both the NY Mets and NY Knicks were stuck in mediocrity, but one change of ownership (NY Mets and Steve Cohen), and one change of authority (NY Knicks and President Leon Rose) have paid huge dividends. So someday, Ross gives up the ownership or he finally tires of mediocrity and let’s his good friend Chris Grier go and this franchise can start building the right way. Can Grier finally get it right, and can Mike McDaniel get the respect from his team? Don’t bet on it! Sorry guys, that’s just how I feel, but of course, I hope to be proven wrong.

Crossman definitely had to go, so that’s a positive. Not sure about Welker, I mean he doesn’t call the plays, does he?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Play calling gets scrutinized when it doesn’t work. When the play is executed nobody cares about the play call.

Of course there are always some bad play calls on both sides of the ball. Football is sometimes a chess match and sometimes individual performances beat the opposition. It’s never a perfect science. It’s played by humans.

“Maybe we should start counting handoffs in his completion percentage”

MikeE not to try and sour you more, but they actually do / did do this. All those motion sweeps where the ball carrier passed in FRONT of the QB instead of behind the QB were technically counted as passes.

    Mike E,

Solid write, and I feel ya, Brother. All I can tell ya regarding the QB position is this… HOW MANY TIMES have I invoked the name of CASE KEENUM(!) to be brought into the fold to be a backup QB for us?!! He knows the WCO like the back of his hand, having been signed as an UDFA by Mike Shanahan (Shanadouche) disciple Gary Kubiak.

Very well knowing that Tua has the injury history that he has, I’ve always been proactive in trying to get a viable backup QB here in Miami. Only now — at the end — do these miserable schmucks (Grier and McDaniel) understand WHY I was so adament about as much.

YES… please sign Marcus Mariota as our vet backup QB, and please draft Dillon Gabriel on day 3 of the NFL Draft.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Thanks M – They have to bring in a few guys, and definitely draft a QB. They can’t fuck around again next season. Mariota could be a candidate, but they have to really see which guy fits best here, and come in and disseminate the offense, understand it, and execute it.

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Just think how much of the roster Grier/McDaniel are going to be responsible for after this season. You have to figure we’re going to add about 25-30, probably more to the roster just to get to 53. This is why I really wanted someone else to get a shot. Grier is going to have to do really well this season both drafting, but signing free agents, UDFA’s and not destroying the cap or future draft picks by burning future picks.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We need to win the turnover battle for starters. Former HC Brian Billick has either a formula or chart showing how winning the turnover battle leads to victory.

It’s a passing-league right now, so get me Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame, and we can start winning the turnover battle. We might have to trade up a bit from our current scheduled 2nd round pick to nab him… DO IT!!!

      BALL HAWK!!!

  13. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

Yep, they probably should have let him go a couple years ago. They didn’t. What changed? Oh right…major heat on the guys who hired him and kept him around. I don’t like top guys who take no blame. MM and Grier should’ve come out and taken the blame on their shoulders and talked about how things would be different. They chose to come out and accept no responsibility and blame pretty much everything and everybody else. Weak look…weak team. Not surprised.

Thanks for the write up Mike E!

I have ZERO hope/faith that anything changes for next year. They will do what they do, beat the real bad teams, lose to the good ones and lose some to the average ones. Or maybe it finally all implodes next year and we get some new decision makers and coaches out of it.

Either way I don’t see how they pull out of the mediocrity with no resources to fill an old depleted injury ridden roster. Especially doing so with the guy that put them there in the first place.

Speculation on the Welker firing…probably agreed that MM is too soft and therefore axed

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Strictly JMO, but I think McDaniel needed to find a lamb to slaughter for the Offensive failures of the ’24 season and Welker fit the bill.

Like so many others, I’m surprised that Welker got the axe, too.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Or perhaps it’s due to Welker putting his name and reputation on the line for EZ-E (Texas Tech connect)… who for whatever reason, just hasn’t panned out. I dunno… ?

While I have zero respect for McDaniel and his cowardly ways, those two firings seem to be earned. Crossman was obvious but what has Welker improved in our WR room? They had a terrible year with Jonnu showing them up. Many noticed that Tyreek never practiced hard or seemed to know the routes. None of the WRs past Waddle and Tyreek really contributed. Reek and Waddle combined for roughly Reek’s numbers last year. The room did an awful job.

McDaniel didn’t set a good example, and the dude is an average NFL coach on his best days….but Welker didn’t coach up a room full of talent. Surka Deeznutz could have done about the same, couldn’t he? Seems like it. McDaniel can’t seem to keep good talent and maybe that’s why he’s kept these underperformers for so long.

“The Dolphins were 11-for-20 in getting a first down when they ran the ball on third-and-1 in 2024, and if you think that was bad, they were 0-for-3 on fourth-and-1.

The 55 percent success rate on third-and-1 running plays was the second-worst in the entire NFL, ahead only of the New England Patriots, who were a putrid 5-for-14 during their 4-13 season.

On fourth-and-1 runs, the Dolphins were one of only four teams who didn’t get a first down at least 50 percent of the time. The others were the Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers.

And when you combine third-and-1 and fourth-and-1 runs, the Dolphins were one of two teams, along with the Patriots, with a success rate below 50 percent. The Dolphins came in at 47.8 and the Patriots at 46.7.”

  43. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’m just going by how they’ve managed the OL so far. They do not sign or draft big, heavy road graders. Really, that’s become a thing of the past in the NFL because of the lack of focus on the running game, the speed of defenses and how college ball works. We do not sign the big, slower C/G to move people. We let Hunt go who was that sort of player but could also move. But, it is what it is. Business decision.

With that, I get why they prefer to use a swing pass or a throw into the flat instead of a run. Unfortunately, so do defenses. That’s the problem. It’s the same thing over and over. You can’t do that. Defenses are just too good. We were told both Gase and MM were running game guys, but it turns out they weren’t.

I think how/if they sign/draft OL this year will tell us more about how they plan to move forward. It’s just kinda weird because the one thing Tua would benefit most from would be to have guards like Brees had in NO who kept everybody off him. 270 pound centers and backup guards don’t do that.

I always felt that running the ball is about attitude. You want to go out and prove you’re tougher than the guy in front of you. You also need a HC who trusts you and makes calls. When your OL is getting beat, it’s just very hard to win.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We will see. If they get LG Tyler Booker from Alabama. They are going more power than zone. That’s not MM though. There are a few OG’s who are athletic and have good power like RG Luke Kandra. Some of these athletic OT’s in the draft are interesting also to move inside.

I’m reading a lot about Jaxson Dart

anyone have any thoughts on him?

seems like he’s not an ideal fit for our offense

but then again, if you are drafting a QB high you are probably substantially changing the offense anyway….

  48. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Justin Herbert’s QB rating today is less than 35

    ouch!

  49. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Vrabel going to the Cheats isn’t good news for Phins. That will become another physical team in the division.

  50. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Piggy, Jaxson Dart is a decent touch passer, not a cannon of an arm but we are used to that. He is also a threat to run.

  51. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Herbert not getting it done. I guess the argument we chose the wrong one will be dead for awhile.

  52. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Hoping to see a really good game right now. These two teams hate each other, they are built very similarly (SMASHMOUTH), and they can both throw the ball down the field.

  55. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t need to say this, being each and every one of us knows our team all too well… but there’s absolutely no way we could compete with either one of these teams this evening.

I can’t remember the last time I was drunk 3 days in a row. LOL. Got some nice snow. Fun as heck watching the dogs play in it. Haven’t even done anything in Gatlinburg just hanging at the cabin. Did have to go on a beer run today. Jacuzzi is getting abused. LOL. Got the games on outside TV.

First trip here with no bear encounters. No tracks in the snow either.

Crazy no bears tho. They are everywhere up there. Not sure about hibernation with those there.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yeah been up here in the winter many times and always seen bears. Been taking the dogs on long walks of over half mile and not seeing any tracks in the snow. Only got about 3” total because it turned to sleet for about 3 hours yesterday before back to snow last evening. Just the right amount and roads are clear but restaurants are mostly closed due to hard freeze tonight. We are stocked up and just enjoying the scenery.

  65. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

  66. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Maybe spoke too soon, Steelers offense has come alive trying to stay in the game. Their defense needs to get a stop.

  67. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

9 forced missed tackles and 130+ yds after contact, still a quarter+ left to play, lol, wow.

  68. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Steelers don’t have a true #1 WR. I knew that when they drafted Pickens out of Georgia.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yup. I cannot believe they didn’t get one of the big-name WRs who changed teams in-season. But then again, that organization is smart and won’t overpay.

  75. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The question is . . . Is it the Head Coach, or the QB?

I think in the Chargers case, Harbaugh did everything he could to make Herbert a better QB, one who takes care of the ball, doesn’t turn it over. The problem is in a playoff game when you need more, because Gus Edwards can’t lift the team, things fell apart when they asked Herbert to do more. If we were in a playoff game this season, it would be the same fate. They wouldn’t let the 2 yard passes we threw all season long beat them, we’d be forced to do more, and Tua would unravel if he had to hold the ball for longer than 2 seconds.

    Answer: It’s the QB

Neither Herbert or Tua are ready for Prime Time!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the problem with LAC is they only have 1 guy to throw to #15, the rest can’t get open, so Herbert had to force the ball

Before this season they had some great WRs and Herbert played great

  76. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Krishna – Sometimes you need your QB to do more, and the best of them can give you that, like Mahomes, Allen, Jackson etc. When we play better teams, and we need more, we get LESS from Tua. Time, and time again.

  77. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I like the Bills and the Broncos. Should be a great game!

  78. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  79. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  80. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’m watching the Bills/Broncos game and showed my wife the replay of when Taren Johnson, Bills CB made a helmet to helmet tackle on Broncos RB Javonte Williams. He was down on the field, besides the helmet to helmet contact, he took a knee to the head snd then his own teammate fell right on top of him. Was taken off the field, went into the tent, then the locker room. A couple of minutes ago Johnson was back on the field, so I tell my wife “Holy shit, that guy is back on the field!”. She says ” Everyone goes back on the field, except Tua”

    😳

  83. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

was talking to my dad this morning, we were both watching the game

I mentioned my theory about Bills, Eagles, Ravens and Chiefs playing 1st and 8 on O while everyone else is playing 1st and 12, these teams are great in short yardage, so the just have to get to within 2 yards and they’re moving the chains

I said, we need to be able to do that or we can’t compete with these teams in the playoffs, he said, like when we had Csonka

good thing we only have half the team signed to 2025 contracts, so we can change the culture🤔

chance of 🧁 doing that is zero

  84. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Broncos need a TD drive now. C’mon Nix, we need a few big plays here!

  87. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

  88. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That sucks, Denver just can’t compete on offense today. Now the floodgates have opened

  89. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I find myself seeing things these 2 QB’s do today and hating that I know my QB might be able to do that . . . Once . . . Then he’d miss 4-6 games or be out the rest of the season

    .

    • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

      lol yup

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

      It’s just the truth.

Denver’s first drive, that bomb TD from Nix, he got walloped after the throw. Tua probably wouldn’t have survived that hit.

Each QB has taken 3 or 4 hits today that would have ended the day for Tua.

  90. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tua would miss 3 games with Josh Allen’s thumb nail injury

  91. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Allen didn’t even have an amazing “I’ll carry the team” type game. Neither did Lamar. Those running games though….imagine if our running game coordinator was smart enough to figure out that a running game is what separates the elite offenses from the posers.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

what makes their running game go is the threat their Superman QBs posses

in the 50s football was a man’s game, in the 70s it was a man’s game, in the 2000s they tried to change it to weenie football, but the tough teams still stood out

🧁 tried to change the NFL to indoor football, the league said FU and punched him in the mouth

Ross said, it’s ok we’ll give you another chance, for some reason

we need a new GM to tell 🧁 we’re changing the culture to tough guys

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

That and actually draft and train up a solid OL. Every single starter on the Ravens was drafted or picked up after the draft. One is brand new and look at him go. Good coaches make players look good.

  95. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

The Chargers are notorious chokers though. Decades of crapping the bed in the playoffs despite having several stud teams. Even when they did reach the Superbowl, they got trounced by the 49ers. They’re an even more cursed team than us.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Made some good friends from SD based on our shared experience of terrible, cursed teams. They definitely have it worse. I even lied to them and said I wished we had drafted Herbert, while I feel just like Mike E. We both missed. I’ve always liked their uniforms and Felipe Rio even though he was a massive choker. I’ve never forgiven them for ruining one of our best chances at another SB though. No need to mention that lol.

  96. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Maybe Ross will watch Eagles and notice the 45 seconds Hurts had to sit in pocket and say Hey!! Why can’t we do that …. Phillys QB is Hurts , ours Is just always Hurt

  97. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Herbert isn’t a miss, not sure why they don’t use his feet more

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I guess it depends on your expectations. He’s in the same tier as Tua. Perfectly serviceable. Won’t lose you games too often. Won’t really win them too often either. The difference between these guys and guys like Purdy isn’t that far off outside of their extreme cost.

  98. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Hurts coming back after 3 weeks out due to a concussion. He’s still running the ball, doing the tush push. You can get concussed and not put on the bubble wrap, or i should say some players can. Ours clearly cannot

Yes… I wanted us to land Mr. Rio in the ’04 Draft. Would have had to trade up for him, but he’d have been worth it, IMO. He had a LOT of Dan the Man in his game and attitude.

    ———

Being in the right place at the right time is half the game, my guy! And executing is the other part of the game: Dodson capitalized on his opportunities, instead of dropping the ball.

That’s more than I can say for over half our team, as currently constitutued.
