Everyone has their logic and strategy as to what the Miami Dolphins need to do in the 2025 NFL Draft and Free Agency to be successful this season. I can’t stress enough that both GM Chris Grier and Head Coach Mike McDaniel are tied together and are both sitting on the proverbial “Hot Seat”, doing whatever they can to keep their jobs. The roster may have less gaping holes now than there was before free agency, but as I’ve pointed out, we got a lot of quantity, not quality. We signed a couple of free agent safeties (Ifeatu Melifonwu and Ashtyn Davis) that aren’t starting material. We signed a CB (Artie Burns) that isn’t starting material. We signed a couple of offensive linemen (OG James Daniels and OT Larry Borom), one of which (James Daniels) will be a potential starter. I say potential because James Daniels is coming off of an achilles tear injury last season at the end of September. He may either not be ready by the season’s start, or he may not be the same player he was before the injury. Most recently, we signed NT Benito Jones and that at least was a signing that should impact the team immediately, and potentially take some pressure off Grier and Weaver to nab a DT with the first pick.
There’s always many different approaches to solving things, and I speak for myself on my approach. You don’t have to agree, and I don’t expect you to. I think there are 3 people on the “Hot Seat”. The third member, previously undisclosed, is QB Tua Tagovailoa. His contract gets to the point where it can truly cripple this team if he’s not playing like an upper echelon QB, or just as bad, not available, as has often been the case. That’s why I think the first pick in the draft, regardless of what number that pick is, whether we stay put at #13, trade up (doubt it!), or trade back, we have to get that O-line fixed. Why? There is probably not a more polarizing figure on this team than QB Tua Tagovailoa, there are those that simply can’t stand him, and others that will defend him on any and every front. Regardless of which side you’re on, I think it’s fair to say that we need to know what his ceiling is. The only fair way to attempt to do this is to give Tua the best offensive line this team can muster. As of this writing, we don’t know whether LT Terron Armstead is going to play in 2025. If Armstead comes back, there’s still a very good chance he comes back more as a mentor and “break glass in case of emergency” type of situation. I know you draft guys, and you know who you are, love OG’s in the 2nd RD and later, and have traded back thousands of times to add more players, but we have quantity, and now it’s time for quality.
As of now, we have Patrick Paul at LT. Paul has 3 starts under his belt. We do not have a LG at the moment. Our OC is Aaron Brewer. Our hopeful starting RG is the aforementioned James Daniels, he of the achilles injury comeback. The RT is Austin Jackson, who last played November 3, 2024. He suffered a knee injury and missed the remainder of the season. Look at this through my lens for a moment. Many of you here were quite vociferous about the quality of our O-line, of course, in defense of QB Tua Tagovailoa, or perhaps just because it wasn’t very good. Either way, you obviously can see how this unit as currently constituted has question marks everywhere, with the exception of OC, where Aaron Brewer was solid. Can Patrick Paul who has started only 3 games be the guy to keep edge rushers at bay, and open up holes on the left side? Will RG James Daniels be ready and healthy to be effective in 2025? Same question for RT Austin Jackson. If there is a top quality OL available at #13, namely OT/OG Armand Membou (Missouri), OT/OG Will Campbell (LSU) and OT/OG Kelvin Banks (Texas), we need to get the one that’s still there at our pick. There are so many more guys that you might like, but you’d also probably have to admit that the three guys I listed are the cream of the crop.
This offensive line was poor last year at protecting the QB. QB Tua Tagovailoa wasn’t injured last season because of the O-line, no, it was his own stupidity engaging a defender like a running back, even if that defender was S Damar Hamlin who may be 10-15 lbs lighter than Tua. Our group of QB’s last season were sacked 43 times, Tua in particular, 21 times. For a guy who throws the ball before 2 seconds on most plays, that seems like a lot, but the other guys including QB Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle were sacked 22 times in total between them. To be fair, none of those QB’s were ready for game action, it’s all about Tua, and will be as long as he’s here. This offense needs to hum, we need to be able to convert short yardage plays, and QB Tua Tagovailoa needs to be elite if we’re going to compete and win a win a playoff game. There can be no excuses. If Grier takes a CB or S in RD1, and they take OG Grey Zabel or Jonah Savaiinaea and they don’t pan out, Tua is in trouble and Grier and MM are looking for jobs. Actually, all 3 (Grier,McDaniel and Tua) are all probably gone, and rightfully so.
One of the very respected bloggers here, M13 feels we need to go CB, and he’s not wrong, it’s a hole that needs to be fixed without a doubt. My feeling is this team has been built on offense, and the production we got from our offense last season, even with Tua at the helm, was underwhelming. With WR’s Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, both very well paid, catching balls from QB Tua Tagovailoa, also extremely well paid, this team is offense centric. That doesn’t mean we can ignore the defense, but this offense has to be scoring in the 28-30 PPG range to be what we want to be. Last season with Tua at QB we scored 24.6 PPG. Neither WR, Hill or Waddle managed 1000 yards receiving. Our best RB, De’Von Achane didn’t crack 1000 yards. Mike McDaniel is an offensive coach. The defense is built on straws. As flawed as the O-line is at the moment, we’re relying on 2 OLB’s who are constantly injured. We still need a DT/DE to play on the other side of Benito Jones to be Sieler’s bookend. As M would point out, we have no starting CB opposite CB Jalen Ramsey. I’d point out despite signing Melifonwu and Davis, we don’t yet have a starting S. We do, however, have a nice group of inside linebackers with Brooks, Dodson, Gay and Britt. The outside linebackers are all question marks with the exception of 2nd year player Chop Robinson. Can we ever count on Jaelan Phillips to give us a full season healthy, and the same for Bradley Chubb?
If I were Chris Grier, I would make sure this offensive line was at the very least top 15, and if I could do anything to make it better, I would. That means don’t be surprised if we not only take an OL at #13, but another one before RD 5. DE/DT, CB, and S are all priorities, but with my job on the line, and for Mike McDaniel too, I need Tua to have the chance to get through the season healthy, have the run game be great, a big part of what made him special as run game coordinator for the SF 49ers. We need the hogs up front to open up holes for Achane and Wright and Mattison, especially on those short yardage plays we were miserable at last season. On that note, it would absolutely shock me if we went CB, DT or S before nabbing a top offensive lineman with our first pick. Now a signing of say OG Brandon Scherrf could change that, because he played at a high level last season and played all 17 as he had the previous 2 seasons as well, so three in a row. This is possible, too, with the restructure of RT Austin Jackson. Honestly, I’m disappointed they didn’t give him another year or two as well, this whole team is pretty much gone after a year or two, very strange, but as I’ve said many times, Grier hasn’t built a team, merely filled roster spots year in and year out.
GO DOLPHINS!!!

The Miami Dolphins media met with all of the Dolphins’ new players this week. Here are 10 cool things we learned.
Miami Dolphins free agent news conferences: 10 things we learned this week
From palmbeachpost.com
Light on OL.
OL is my first pick! lol
light meaning only 1.
looking at our depth chart on ESPN LG and LDE are our biggest needs, the rest we can use what’s already on the team, some positions we’ll be ok like safety with McMorris and Elijah Campbell
Bucky Brooks’ Mock Draft v3.0 has us taking Kelvin Banks.
There seems to be an ever-growing consensus that Banks will be our selection @ R1P13… and I’m alright with it.
HOWEVER… contingent upon what we may do (or not do) between now and Draft day regarding CB opposite Ramsey — and if Will Johnson (or even Jahdae Barron) is still on the board when we select — do not assume anything.
And I’m waiting for the Stealers* to get SO cornered/concerned at the QB position that they trade up into the top-10 to secure Jaxson Dart before some other team steals him away. Should this occur, it’s going to push another stud down to us.
Thinking aloud… what if we threatened to take Jaxson Dart as Tua’s eventual successor, and the Stealers* decided to trade up to our R1P13?
So I ran the mock draft simulator on PFF. Guess who the first team that asked to trade up with us? Yup, the Stealers*.
The PFF draft simulator suggests we could get P21, P83, P123, and their 3rd round pick in ’26 in exchange for R1P13.
I’d be VERY, VERY tempted. We could address a LOT this Draft, and even move up and down the boards to get who we really like.
I’m beginning to believe that the ’25 Draft is going to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory… and not just for our Phins.
Why? Warts on the top LTs (tweeners of Tackle vs Guard), the revival of the RB position (how early does Jeanty go?), big question marks on the top QBs, a two-way player in Travis Hunter, Will Johnson’s injury vs Jahdae Barron (<– not sold on Barron, yet), the overall Safety class has some questions, DTs after Mason Graham have warts, HIGH potential EDGEs with little production to show, and just exactly where does the STUD Jihaad Campbell go?
And being this Draft is what most call ‘sub-par’ at the top, how many teams will be trying to trade down to accumulate more talent?
In the two decades that I’ve been following the Draft closely, this is one of THOSE years, IMO.
THAT STATED(!)… yes, there is plenty of talent to be had. I just find it to be very unpredictable this year, more so than most.
Oh yeah.. I forgot to mention. Does Kirk Cousins get traded or get paid mega $$$ riding the pines? Does A-Rod finally sign with a team or retire? Tannehill is rumored to have been courted. Why would the G-Men draft a QB early this year with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winton in the fold?
SO much uncertainty this year with only a month to go before the Draft.
*Winston
they are only guaranteed $15 million combined this year. They can draft a QB and either develop him or start him if he outplayed the others.
I agree, this is one of those drafts.
Texas RB Jaydon Blue ran a 4.28 and 4.25 at his pro day Tuesday.
Gunnar Helm is still dealing with his sprained ankle from the combine and didn’t run the 40 at his pro day. Only did position drills.
With this being a weak QB class. I bet QB Will Howard moved himself to the top of the 2nd round, at least. Yeah, the pro day’s are scripted but, he would have been 67 for 67 on all his throws if not for 2 drops. They said he was laser accurate on every throw.
I wouldn’t be mad at it but lacking at DT. I think I double down at DT or take a CB in McCord’s spot. Top 4 is solid as is the 7th round. I really like Sigle.
ESPN’s Matt Miller 7-Round Mock Draft has Miami Selecting…
Round 1, Pick #13: Will Campbell, OT/G, LSU
Round 2, Pick #48: Carson Schwesinger, LB, UCLA
Round 3, Pick #98: Billy Bowman Jr., S, Oklahoma
Round 4, Pick #116: Omarr Norman-Lott, DT, Tennessee
Round 4, Pick #135: Kyle McCord, QB, Syracuse
Round 5, Pick #150: Jaylin Lane, WR, Virginia Tech
Round 5, Pick #155: Ajani Cornelius, OT, Oregon
Round 7, Pick #224: RJ Oben, Edge, Notre Dame
Round 7, Pick #231: Marques Sigle, S, Kansas State
Round 7, Pick #253: Justin Walley, CB, Minnesota
All the contracts have hit for the new signee’s.
P Stonehouse signed for 1yr 1.725 mill. Only 75K is guaranteed so clearly he is just competition at this point for Bailey. Cutting Stone house will clear 1.65 mill or cutting Bailey will clear 1.975 mill.
CB Artie Burns is clearly cap fodder. Signed for 1.355 mill with no signing bonus and no guaranteed money. His cap hit is 100% refundable, if cut. LOL
Surprisingly, TE Pharaoh Brown also signed for 1.355 with a 20K signing bonus. Only that 20K is guaranteed.
LB K.J Britt signed at a cap hit of 1.197 mill and is 100% guaranteed.
LB Willie Gay got the exact same contract as Britt and is 100% guaranteed.
Those were the last 5 we were waiting on. Roster is at 68 so 22 spots for draft picks, UDFA’s and a couple more FA’s.
Don’t worry about our DL
including Calais we’ll have at least 2 more serviceable DTs signed before camp
with Calais and the return of Phillips and Chubb our DL will be stout
without Calais we’ll add an early DT in draft and a vet, won’t be as good, but at least middle of the pack DL
Spotrac shows us with 4.9 mill in cap space which they are behind and we have much more than that. We have more like 16.5 mill in cap space for 2 reasons.
First, Spotrac has yet to account for Austin Jackson’s restructure.
Second, Rock is going to love this, QB Zack Wilson was signed to a 6 mill contract BUT, his 2025 cap hit is not 6 mill as originally thought. His cap hit in 2025 is only 2.2 mill. Why? Most of his contract was a signing bonus. Grier spread the signing bonus out over 5 years creating almost a 1 mill dead cap hit over 4 void years through 2029. Wilson is going to plague us for the next 5 years. lol
That said, right now, they have enough cap space to sign their draft picks and a couple more FA’s.
OMMFG!! FIRE THAT POS RIGHT NOW! (Grier, not Wilson, Grier doesn’t count against the cap. He just destroys it.)
BBM, I am not seeing that on Sprotrac. They are saying all 6M is accounted for THIS season. Where did you get that info?
Of course, our roster is technically not at 68 players as some have not signed their tenders yet like Kohou who may be holding out a little longer for a higher offer from another team.
OG James Daniels says he can pay either OG position and “I’m going to be fully healthy when the season starts”. Says he is doing football drills.

Awesome!
Why am I not surprised…
———
Daniels said that his position and other positions along the offensive line are still being decided.
“They’re still figuring things out. They just said during OTAs they’ll have a plan, but they just told me they’re still figuring things out right now.”
———–
I guess it does depend on how the draft goes. You get Campbell, leave him on the left side (same with Kelvin Banks). You get Membou, keep him on the right side.
The PFN simulator, PFF and Draftbuss all have Safety Marques Sigle as an UDFA but I don’t think he goes undrafted. Like Matt Miller’s mock, I think he would be a great pick in the 7th. He grades at 91% vs the run and in the 70’s in everything else, but doesn’t grade poorly in anything. Also, he runs a 4.37 forty.
MF-13 was captured! YESS!!!!!
ooops, that’s MS-13 😛
Add this to the long list of things that piss me off: (GET OFF MY LAWN!)
Robert Downy Jr as Dr. Doom is pitiful.
ILB Jackson Woodard was another one on my UDFA want list but who could get drafted. He is another who could end by being a 7th round steal like Sigle. He’s really good in coverage.

Without even naming the prospects, what positions do you think we will draft, not what you hope it is, with our first three picks?
With Dipshit in charge?
WR, RB, Edge…
I predicted your response. 😂
OL, DB, DT
That’s who we SHOULD draft.
YES, I have selected a kicker to replace Sanders again this year. $5M per season for Sanders is Fn ridiculous! And in case you are wondering ,YES he has a void year included in his contract too. Fucking Grier!

I saw it in an article. I then checked Spotrac and they have what you said but also didn’t have the Jackson restructure updated either. So, I checked OTC and there is was, confirming what the article said.
“As it turns out, the 2025 cap number for new Miami Dolphins QB Zach Wilson will be much smaller than originally reported.
Based on the figures at cap website overthecap.com, Wilson will count a modest $2.2 million against the Dolphins’ 2025 salary cap after it first was reported that number would be $6 million.
Wilson still has a $6 million guaranteed salary, but it now includes his $4.75 million signing bonus spread out over the next five years.”

From what I’ve learned over the past couple of years; Grier leads personnel of the football team, Brandon Shore works the finances and contracts, and McDaniel as the HC strongly influences what personnel we need to acquire.
Just remember every year round 2 is the DB hotspot.

😆
That reminds of the time Gigi called into WQAM in Miami to talk some Dolphins football with Omar and Alonzo Highsmith… I was listening at home and actually had no idea she was calling in. She mentioned my name several times as MF-13, but Alonzo thought she was saying MS-13.
Alonzo went on a short diatribe about how bad MS-13 was and that Gigi shouldn’t be associating with anyone representing MS-13. Omar didn’t even know what to say as Gigi kept on trying to clarify she was referring to MF-13, but it kept sounding like MS-13 over the radio! All she needed to say was Marinofan13, M13, or Rigel… and at least Omar would have known who she was talking about! LOL 😆
I hope Gigi’s doing well: that was so very kind of her to help get my name out there on the Miami radio waves back then… as awkward as it was at the time. I’ll never forget it! 🙂
And YES… a major leader of MS-13 was captured today about 30 minutes outside of DC, in Virginia. EXCELLENT news!
Cannot believe Will Campbell was available at R1P13, I definitely over-drafted Jay Higgins, but do not sleep on my guy Addison West out of Western Michigan. I’ve posted video of him here before…

The Official 2025 NFL Draft DL Top 10 Rankings | PTP
BBM,
what’s the deal with Savion Williams ? when I first started doing mock grass a few months ago, he always went in the 60s, and now he always goes in the 120s. Did he have a bad Pro day or something?
I watched 2 SB teams that have been there a few times over the last 5 years.
The Eagles dominated with a 4 man rush. While KC usually has a stout OL, i.e. see previous SB wins, they were weak this year with injuries. One of the best QBs in the league was shut down because the game was won and lost in the trenches, imo.
Pick the best OL and DL (starters) in the draft and go from there. Please. Lol
Didn’t we learn anything?
Isn’t there some saying about shiny toys? Lol
Brian, Savion Williams climbed draft sites boards after some hype that has worn off. Though, he is everything as advertised as a play maker. His knocks are drops due to being a body catcher at times. He has made some ridiculous catches though and his contested catch rate is higher than some elite NFL WR’s.
Also, recruited as a duel threat QB, TCU used him a ton in the wildcat and gadget plays. They never spent the time refining his route running and instead just let him do his thing.
He needs to get better in a few facets of being a WR, but it is all coachable. It’s his raw talent at his size that makes him a solid pick at #98 or #116. With the right coaching and effort, he could be a huge steal. Low risk, high reward.
He led all WR’s with 43 forced missed tackles on just 60 receptions, the next closest had 32 forced missed tackles.
Omar continues to blame the O-line for Tua getting injured. There are so many Dolphins fans that feel this way, that Tua needs to have a great O-line. I want the Dolphins to supply him one and see what happens. I’d love to be surprised, but I don’t think even if he somehow stays healthy that he can do what we need him to do, especially in a playoff game on the road.
LOL, not posting the article but it said Dolphins should trade down to get more picks. Main reason was Grier’s selections in rounds 2-5 have not been the greatest and Dolphins need more picks in that range for him to hit on at least 2.
Someone else said there should be no argument between whether Dolphins should draft for need or BPA. Reason being is they have so many needs this year and 2026 that if they draft BPA, they will fill a need.
MikeE,
I’ll bet you a shiny quarter that no matter what happens this year fans will blame the OL. lol
I’m not taking that bet. The Tua apologists/stans/defenders are fierce in their loyalty for the “Frajeel”!
I don’t blame the OL for Tua’s injuries. I blame them for not being able to block a play in crunch time.
BBM,
I wouldn’t mind a trade down at all. It depends on who’s available. I’d rather have one very high end player instead of 2 or 3 average players. You can always find average players.
I agree with that.
Tim,
Maybe our $50M QB could make a play when everything isn’t perfect around him. If he can’t, why’d we pay him like he’s a difference maker when he’s not?
Typical Tua hatred. You can’t expect anything, just accept whatever mediocre play he blesses us with when the chips are down, our roster can never be good enough for his Grace. 🙂
He does but he doesn’t block for running game.

From NFL. com’s latest power rankings:
After losing starters on both sides of the ball, the Dolphins have tried to patch those holes in the secondary and on the offensive line. But more than anything, it has been a steady drip of end-of-roster additions. (For example: New RB Alexander Mattison will presumably play a bit role in short-yardage situations, at best.) They’re preaching patience on South Beach, but it’s hard not to be more than a little concerned with the fact that a few starting jobs are up for grabs now, and we still don’t know if LT Terron Armstead will be back for another year. OL additions James Daniels and Larry Borom could both end up starting, and Miami still likely needs one more interior blocker. Both the O-line and secondary have me worried. I’m gonna try that patience thing, but the current state of this roster spawns anxiety.
Anxiety spawning to say the least.
My Grier is fucked after this year anyway, might as well stock up for next season’s draft, draft (picked up two extra 2nd round picks for next seaon’s GM):

If you guys are going to turn everything into Tua, what’s the point?
Why is everyone talking about adding OL?
You already know my stance, I say give Tua the best O-line we can, then see if the “Frajeel” could prove how really good he is, including beating the teams that are as good, or better than us. Show up fercrissakes!
