Happy July 4th!

Hope you all enjoy celebrating our country’s Independence Day, July 4th. We live in the USA, the best country in the world! (Sorry Toba and UK!) We should always be thankful we’re here. I know politics divides us sometimes, and things aren’t always the way all of us like it, but there’s no other country I’d rather be in. As far as our football, well that’s a different story altogether. We’re in a rebuild, we’re not in a rebuild, we’re in a soft rebuild, we’re going for it, whatever you call this, I think we’re doing a pretty awful job of it, more specifically, GM Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel. They had me fooled for a bit that they were going to be frugal and not waste future money or draft capital and then they trade for a TE who quit on his team (Do you see a theme and a problem with this?) in TE Darren Waller who decided blocking was too hard and his love for the game was gone while playing for the NY Giants. Not only did we give up a 6th RD pick but we’re also paying him $5M.

Hey, did I mention we traded Jonnu Smith? Yeah, the guy that made the 2024 season somewhat palatable because he was one of our best players, setting a record for receptions for a Miami Dolphins TE. I’ll also remind you, most of those receptions were within the 0-10 yard varieties and his run after catch ability was on display quite a bit last season, 88 catches, 884 yards, 8 TD’s. I wish I could show you all of them, because so many were practically handoffs and screens, and Jonnu did most of the work. Well, it doesn’t matter, we didn’t want to pay him, we’d rather pay guys who are already gone, give raises to guys who didn’t deserve them like Jalen Ramsey and Tyreek Hill who also quit on this team. 7 months after giving Ramsey an extension and pay raise, both he and Jalen Ramsey decide it would be better that they part ways. Wonderful! Maybe you should have thought of that before screwing up our cap and sending money to guys who you shouldn’t have and having it available to the ones who you should pay!

So we trade the malcontent Jalen Ramsey and our best TE to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and what do we get back in return? Minkah Fitzpatrick!!! Yes, the guy who couldn’t stand being here because he wasn’t being used the way he wanted to be. I think what bothers me the most about all of this, is a lot of you welcome back Minkah Fitzpatrick with open arms. I will NEVER!!! He will always be MFFF, you know what that means! Another player that QUIT on us, needed to have his way! I can’t root for him, won’t do it. I also cant tell you how angry I am that we traded for Darren Waller. Every year we hear how talented and athletic Tanner Conner is and how well he knows the offense. We hear how Julian Hill is the strongest guy on the team pound for pound and how dedicated he is to becoming a better player. Why Darren Waller? Why??? He hasn’t been relevant since 2020. Grier can never stop wasting picks and money and if you can’t see how badly he needs to be fired, get your fucking eyes checked! I know a guy!

You guys were all over the fact that we drafted Dante Trader and last year we drafted Patrick McMorris and how they might be the safeties for this team. You also really liked Ashtyn Davis and Ifeatu Melifonwu. Now, you love the quitter who is on his way down in his career and one of the best organizations in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and you know I’m not wrong about them, decided that Minkah was expendable. THAT, tells you something! Well, go ahead and root for the misfits and miscreants Grier brings in here for us, I pray this is his last season, McCupcake as well. It doesn’t matter to me that we’ve been changing regimes for the last 25 years and that certainly contributes to the fact this team hasn’t won a playoff game during that time period, but Grier and McCupcake are not the answer, so rinse and repeat, let’s try it again after we fail to do so again in 2025. If somehow, miraculaously we do win a playoff, well, that will mean I’m wrong and it won’t be the first time that has happened, but if I were you, I wouldn’t bet on this one!

Does that pussy QB throw fits like that when he screws up?

  2. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

He has a long way to go on the depth chart to achieve this. I would have named Kenneth Grant or Jonah before Trader.

One rookie from every NFL team who could surprise in 2025

Miami Dolphins: S Dante Trader Jr.

When looking at the Miami Dolphins’ 2025 rookie class, several players have opportunities to make an immediate impact, including safety Dante Trader Jr. A two-sport athlete at Maryland, where he played both football and lacrosse, Trader’s athleticism extends beyond the metrics that may have pushed him into a Day 3 selection. His versatility as a safety, able to play deep or step into the box as a nickel, fits well with defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver’s scheme. At times, Weaver could deploy three safeties on the field, and Trader’s work ethic, leadership, and football IQ make him a strong contender for instant snaps. Although Miami’s safety room recently welcomed back Minkah Fitzpatrick, the Dolphins still need to evaluate a group where multiple players could claim the second and third spots on the depth chart.

Trader also brings value as a special teams contributor, having started in multiple roles during his college career. He comes with a glowing endorsement from Maryland head coach Mike Locksley, who said in June on the Dolphins’ Drive Time podcast with Travis Wingfield, “There’s no doubt about Dante and his aptitude and football intelligence. He was a guy that, if you can teach it, then you can execute it. And he’s one of those players I see all the time grabbing the young safeties and corners, imparting the wisdom he gained, not just from his successes, but also from his failures as a young player.” – Jason Sarney, Dolphins Wire

That’s one perspective AND point of view and a huge LEAP of judging “leadership” qualities….but OK….lol.

I think sometimes leaders need to display a little fire and set expectations strongly. I have seen excellent leaders throughout decades get there point across when a little fire in their tone.

There was nothing over the top here…lol.

Krishna, I’ll reply that IMO it’s a huge LEAP to judge a child like temper tantrum and cussing at your coach as “leadership” No, it wasn’t over the top, but it was “out of control” and not professional. Passion for your job is great. Acting a fool not so much.

  4. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I like Grant’s potential, but I think he may take awhile to show what he can do. Interior DL guys usually take a bit to get used to playing with grown men trying to kick their asses. So, I think Trader probably has a better chance to shine a little out of the gate. Safety can be a pretty cerebral position, but Weaver’s defense may alleviate that a bit urgency how he deploys safeties.

It will be fun watching our young guys develop….hopefully. Lol

  5. Randy's avatar Randy says:

If I think back on how Marino handled stuff, I remember him getting in guys’ faces directly and telling him what he thought. That’s completely different than just yelling into the air about something or going to the bench, sitting by yourself and still talking. Why isn’t he over with the OL yelling at them directly if that’s how he feels? Did he? Marino went out of his way not to embarrass his OL most of the time. I get that we saw him yelling at them during a game, but it never felt like just bitching and moaning. Plus just be me.

In the end, it’s not a big deal. The kid is a very good QB when he’s healthy. Leadership can take lots of forms. In relation to Tua, I don’t think it means much of anything. I don’t think Tua is that sort of guy. A leader who tries to be something he’s not is completely evident to the players. Fake tantrums don’t work. Tua needs to just be himself. I don’t slight him as a leader because he doesn’t yell a lot.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Exactly. I feel it is just haters trying to “build a case” against Tua. I have seen Tua call out his WR’s and linemen during the game, but more as “let’s get on the same page, you should have done x,y,z”

“Look at Job Burrow, he’s a leader and Tua is not” BS

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Once again twisting up my comments and words about “expectations” v your narrative on leadership. Typical of you to read into something that wasn’t said.

You brought up leadership and somehow hating Tua…lol.

My thoughts were about expectations and how “soft” we seem to be from top, down. That’s why I followed up with “hmmm”

My only contention about leadership is that you don’t have to be perfectly in control with your emotions to be a good leader. This is a completely different topic…lol….Brady, Mahomes, Shula, Popovich, Jordan, etc…the list is endless, (all leaders) have all been seen “going off”

  8. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We need to draft an OT next year to keep adding to the OL. We only have Jackson, PP and Teddi Kushi under contract next year at that position.

Next draft is really solid at the OT position. Some sites have up to 8 OT’s in their 2025 top 50 preseason draft ranking. We should be able to land a good OT prospects in the first 3 rounds.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

FCS guys never show up in the preseason rankings either. There will be a few more to add to the list.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

What do you mean “do what with him”?

What do we do with any player we draft?

You draft players hoping they can become starters. You groom them to achieve that. Meanwhile, they are a backup.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We have 2 good starting OTs, why draft a 3rd to sit on the bench?

unless you have a plan for him, why draft an OT

  10. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, maybe the new OL will provide more push in the run game. We haven’t seen this group of guys yet.

  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Looking at the 2026 roster, our top needs are:

CB: Kohou and Isaiah Johnson are FA again.

TE: Conyers is the only TE under contract.

OT: Again, only Jackson, PP and Kushi under contract.

In 2026, Tyreek and Chubb account for over 83m in cap. IMO, both are gone and that creates a need at edge with Phillips also being gone.

Possibly another need at WR to fill void left by Hill. Though, we will still have Waddle, Malik and NWI. We will have to see what Tahj has and a bunch of young pups in TC in Armstrong, Wease, Baldwin and Henning.

If Tua gets hurt again, QB will also be a need.

  12. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    OMG…

You’re right Steve, Jackson will never get hurt again and neither will PP.

Last I looked, teams carry about 4 OT’s on their 53.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

just asking what the plan is, if its depth, so be it

when you have 2 good starting tackles it isn’t exactly a need

why is that such a difficult question?

  13. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

True leadership comes in all shapes and sizes, and it’s contingent upon who or what they are trying to lead. True followers come in all shapes and sizes as well, with many different personality types to manage/lead.

As a Star Trek geek (yes, I can like BOTH Star Wars and Star Trek! LOL), I love the debates over who was the best: Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, Captain Sisko, Captain Janeway, etc..

Truth is, they were ALL stellar A+ captains (Picard was my favorite)… and they each led their crews with a different style.

I can see the passion in Joe Burrow, trying to light a fire under his teammates without being confrontational about it. I could see the FIRE in Dan Marino and Philip Rivers, demanding accountability from their teammates to their faces. I can see the very cool and collected Tua with nerves of steel, assuring his teammates that it’s not time to panic under the pressure of any momentary situation.

For me, it’s a joy to see the so many different styles of true leadership at play… and I equally love it when I see someone who thinks they are some kind of leader lose the locker room, work force, team, etc, and fall flat on their face (ie: Urban Meyer as HC of the Jags) because they are NOT a leader… they are punks.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And if I may clarify about Joe Burrow, I’m not seeing a passive guy who is afraid to confront his teammates. I see someone who is trying to lead by example and set the bar higher for his teammates.

IMO and experiences, that is one of the most powerful leadership types out there… one who leads by example. Burrow is going to be just fine as a leader, IMO.

One FCS guy to keep an eye on is Trey Lance’s brother a WR at NDSU. Bryce Lance, 6’3, 205, runs in the mid 4.4’s. Incase none of the rookies we have on the roster now bite.

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

If we don’t take a QB early or in the mid rounds, I would take a look at Jaden Craig from Harvard (if he enters the draft). He’s someone who could compete with Ewers if we stick with Tua. He has good size, strong arm and can make every throw. Kid can throw some darts.

My first guess is he stays in college but hits the transfer portal to a bigger school for his senior year. Anyway, a kid to keep an eye on.

  17. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @flasportsbuzz

So even though overthecap says Miami has $2.8 M in space, NFL players union says Miami has $14 M in space, so that’s a relief. Overthecap has Ramsey’s dead cap hit at $14 million, much higher than it needs to be.

  18. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    BBM,

I do believe we’re going to be drafting a QB early next season, regardless of how ’25 unfolds for us.

Keep your eyes on LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina. I believe he could declare for the ’26 Draft, but I’m not certain about that…

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I have watched Sellers. I am not quite sold on him yet as a passer. He’s a big kid who can run and make things happen. Right now, he is another “Milroe” for me and that’s not a knock. He needs to be better at reading the defense and his progressions. He’s got talent but needs to sit and learn behind a vet starter. Just my 2 cents. If he was there in the 3rd round, I probably wouldn’t hesitate. This season could change my mind.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I absolutely agree with ya there, and all accounts. But if Sellers shows tangible growth in reading defenses and with his progressions this season, he’s going to become a very hot name very quickly.

Yes, the Draft class of ’26 already looks substantially better than that of ’25 at this time. There’s a music artist who I reached out to maybe 6 months ago. He’s trying to rejuvenate his music career at 47 years old, his mother had passed away a year prior, he was two years removed from a heart attack, and he has a precious kid with severe autism needing constant care. He even set up a foundation for diabetes — which he had — in order to spread awareness and help for those who have it.

As I understand, the medication he was taking for his heart (post-heart attack) was giving him suicidal tendencies… he had stopped taking the meds for that very reason, but his health regressed by NOT taking the meds. He got back on them and he got suicidal again… that’s when I reached out to him… about 6 months ago when he started getting weird again. I offered to produce a track for his new album — if he so desired — to help him regain focus on the beautiful music, and to be a true friend.

Yesterday, I found out that he had taken his life this past 4th of July. Single gunshot wound to his head while in a swimming pool in Atlanta via his Beretta. That very seriously hurt me to my very soul when I saw that yesterday, guys.

Why am I sharing this? Because if you know ANYBODY who is going through some serious shit in life, PLEASE reach out to them. I tried, but I was a literal stranger to him and he may not have even read my reach-out to him as he was likely already in the throws of suicidal thought. Family and friends are the very first wave of defense for one who is suicidal, so ALWAYS check and be there for your family and friends. Suicide is NOT the answer.

His name was Rufus Cooper III, aka Young Noble. RIP, Rufus… 😥

Here’s one of his last songs, from 2023. Even if ya can’t stand rap (believe me, I get it!), you can tell just how much sorrow is on his mind and in his heart, as he remembers all of those who he dearly loved passing before him. 😦
