Happy July 4th!

Hope you all enjoy celebrating our country’s Independence Day, July 4th. We live in the USA, the best country in the world! (Sorry Toba and UK!) We should always be thankful we’re here. I know politics divides us sometimes, and things aren’t always the way all of us like it, but there’s no other country I’d rather be in. As far as our football, well that’s a different story altogether. We’re in a rebuild, we’re not in a rebuild, we’re in a soft rebuild, we’re going for it, whatever you call this, I think we’re doing a pretty awful job of it, more specifically, GM Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel. They had me fooled for a bit that they were going to be frugal and not waste future money or draft capital and then they trade for a TE who quit on his team (Do you see a theme and a problem with this?) in TE Darren Waller who decided blocking was too hard and his love for the game was gone while playing for the NY Giants. Not only did we give up a 6th RD pick but we’re also paying him $5M.

Hey, did I mention we traded Jonnu Smith? Yeah, the guy that made the 2024 season somewhat palatable because he was one of our best players, setting a record for receptions for a Miami Dolphins TE. I’ll also remind you, most of those receptions were within the 0-10 yard varieties and his run after catch ability was on display quite a bit last season, 88 catches, 884 yards, 8 TD’s. I wish I could show you all of them, because so many were practically handoffs and screens, and Jonnu did most of the work. Well, it doesn’t matter, we didn’t want to pay him, we’d rather pay guys who are already gone, give raises to guys who didn’t deserve them like Jalen Ramsey and Tyreek Hill who also quit on this team. 7 months after giving Ramsey an extension and pay raise, both he and Jalen Ramsey decide it would be better that they part ways. Wonderful! Maybe you should have thought of that before screwing up our cap and sending money to guys who you shouldn’t have and having it available to the ones who you should pay!

So we trade the malcontent Jalen Ramsey and our best TE to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and what do we get back in return? Minkah Fitzpatrick!!! Yes, the guy who couldn’t stand being here because he wasn’t being used the way he wanted to be. I think what bothers me the most about all of this, is a lot of you welcome back Minkah Fitzpatrick with open arms. I will NEVER!!! He will always be MFFF, you know what that means! Another player that QUIT on us, needed to have his way! I can’t root for him, won’t do it. I also cant tell you how angry I am that we traded for Darren Waller. Every year we hear how talented and athletic Tanner Conner is and how well he knows the offense. We hear how Julian Hill is the strongest guy on the team pound for pound and how dedicated he is to becoming a better player. Why Darren Waller? Why??? He hasn’t been relevant since 2020. Grier can never stop wasting picks and money and if you can’t see how badly he needs to be fired, get your fucking eyes checked! I know a guy!

You guys were all over the fact that we drafted Dante Trader and last year we drafted Patrick McMorris and how they might be the safeties for this team. You also really liked Ashtyn Davis and Ifeatu Melifonwu. Now, you love the quitter who is on his way down in his career and one of the best organizations in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and you know I’m not wrong about them, decided that Minkah was expendable. THAT, tells you something! Well, go ahead and root for the misfits and miscreants Grier brings in here for us, I pray this is his last season, McCupcake as well. It doesn’t matter to me that we’ve been changing regimes for the last 25 years and that certainly contributes to the fact this team hasn’t won a playoff game during that time period, but Grier and McCupcake are not the answer, so rinse and repeat, let’s try it again after we fail to do so again in 2025. If somehow, miraculaously we do win a playoff, well, that will mean I’m wrong and it won’t be the first time that has happened, but if I were you, I wouldn’t bet on this one!

Happy 4th, Mike E.! And, I agree with you! Best country in the world!

  2. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I will always root for this team to win in spite of the “sysiphis syndrome” upper management seems to be afflicted with.

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

MikeE, I wish some time you would really tell us how you feel. LOL

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Being a draft geek, I have not liked Grier for a long time. MM should have never been put into an HC position. I would like to see Weaver be his replacement. Unfortunately, I believe he will get hired away next year.

  4. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Kyle Crabbs projections after signing Jonah and once Waller’s contract hits our cap will be around -200K. They will need to restructure someone to have cap to work with during the season.

Dolphins now have the 8th highest dead money for 2025 at 52.7m. Also, in 2026, the Dolphins already have the 4th highest in dead money at 30.8m. Grier needs to go!

  6. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim, Bri – If I told you a month ago that at a little past the halfway point of the season (88 games) that Soto would be leading the Mets with 20 HR’s, Alonso with 18, and then both Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor both with 17 HR’s each, would you think I was crazy?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Same with Cubbies, 125 HR’s (5th in MLB) in 87 games with 2 over 20 HR’s, 2nd in scoring in MLB behind the Dodgers. Also 2nd in hits, 2nd in SB and 2nd in runs per game.

CF Pete Crow-Armstrong made the 20/20 (HR/SB) club in just 65 games, has 21HR/26SB right now.

      Big weekend vs the Cards.

Reds trying to hang in there. Big weekend @ the Phillies. Hopefully they will help the Mets out.

just don’t get the roster thoughts on this board

most of the offseason was riddled with how bad or untalented or unproven our secondary was (Grier needs to do something) then we get rid of the already written off Ramsey and replace him with Minkah and all we say is not thinking about the future, my buddy said Minkah…, he’s lost a step

maybe we actually now have the 3 safeties needed to run the 3 high Weaver covets

Jonnu was great for us last year, starting mid-season, after Jackson got hurt and we couldn’t run the ball, he was our pseudo run game by catching short passes and getting YAC

if Jonnu was to again be great it probably would’ve meant something broke down somewhere else

Waller has virtually zero YAC, what he does bring is a sit down receiver, that can be a 3rd down machine catching boxed out passes, passed the 1st down marker

  12. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Mike, we aren’t paying Waller 5m, he’s on a vet min contract with incentives up to 5m

we should only hope he makes close to 5m

  13. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Why Darren Waller? Why??? He hasn’t been relevant since 2020.

Why Jonnu last year? Both had similar

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      both 1 year contracts

don’t hear anyone saying how MM worked wonders with Jonnu, now Waller is the project

  14. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Weaver loves him some safeties, and we have plenty of guys to move around now, platoonish if you will, with most not named Trader and McMorris bringing different traits

we’ve now given our inexperienced CB room help in the back end and front end, hopefully giving someone the right scenario to take the next step

steveccnv…I have no idea what you’re saying. ..glad you’re confident ….lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m not confident, what I’m saying is we’ve done about all we can do given the situation, and have improved the talent

what it all means who knows

we thought last year Buffalo was taking a step back and we’d win the division

getting a PB player at an area of need back in the Ramsey trade is huge

last year MM had everyone so softened up, that it took a huge come from behind win to beat lowly Jags

this year, including the coaching staff, no one seems to be riding the high horse

      Chubb seems healthy and energized

Waller, who knows, but could be same as Chubb, given new life on the only team he wanted to play for (2023 52 for 552 I’d take that this year and call it a success)

I can see a scenario where we can win division and/or playoff game

will we? Probably not, I don’t see a disaster either

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Dang…ok…never thought it was a disaster. Just same ol shit

        I want to WIN!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the disaster comes from starting with a couple of losses and MM losing the locker room

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – Both had similar receptions in their last seasons before coming here, eh? You forgot to mention that Waller last played in 2023 and quit. You somehow don’t think there’s a difference between Waller and Jonnu? Wow man, wow!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

never said that, just saying there’s similarities between the two, why can’t Waller take a jump like Jonnu did, difference is Waller has done it

  19. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I can’t find anything about Waller’s salary other than the $5M, but nothing is on spotrac.com yet

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It does say it’s incentive laden though, but no parameters are shown as to what he has to do to earn it.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Crabbs and others like Alain have said its min with incentives, so no risk like Ken mentioned

  20. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

every year is different for most teams not named Chiefs, Bills, Ravens and Eagles

we have an intriguing roster, why shoot it down before we see it on the field?

Liked Ramsey and Jonnu, but they aren’t on the roster now, move on

we’ve possibly fixed many of the issues that haunted the past few years teams

short yardage has been a disaster, bring in bigger backs and powerful OL, what else can we realistically expect

  21. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

TEs are the biggest mismatched around the league, if you don’t have a decent pass catching one you’re already behind the 8 ball, just like a tush push QB (maybe Conyers)

is there a better option out there than Waller? Probably, he should do just fine, enough to keep us on pace with easy first downs

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Some dead money players are not going to make the team. That goes on throughout the league.

  23. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Mike you bitch about Tua not beating good teams, then Grier brings in some players, that can help him do it and you either don’t think so or have to wait and see

culture change is the only way its going to happen

Waller may not have great stats for us, but it really doesn’t matter, all that matters is beating the good teams, and he’s a mismatch nightmare, that can make the play, when it matters, will he who knows, just give it a chance

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Malik Washington is my sleeper on offense. Other guys will play a role but I think this dude makes a difference nobody saw coming.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – stop. Jonnu helped Tua more than anyone on the team not named Achane. He used to be a mismatch nightmare, I’d almost be willing to bet he doesn’t make the final roster because he either quits again or is hurt

  24. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Before we picked up Darren Waller, did anyone else in their right mind in the NFL have any fucking interest in Darren Waller? Now you want to make Grier GM of the year?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Giants were probably like “Holy Fuck, the Dolphins are interested in Waller and they’re willing to give us a 6th!!”

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

sure its a found draft pick for the Giants, their winning doesn’t affect us though, what matters is finding a player you need for cheap and hope he works out

Waller’s 52 for 552 in 2023 were in 12 games, and he was still their 2nd best receiver

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      No, of course not

the situation changed once Waller decided to play again and he fell right into our lap

Grier did absolutely nothing to get Waller, he is giving him a chance at a low salary

with the contract being up to 5m with incentives I’d bet Waller brings the effort

  25. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Dolphins reporter finally admits what Miami fans couldn’t bring themselves to say

And yet one of them still remains.

    By Brian Miller

Monday’s blockbuster trade ended nearly three months of drama for one player, and one month of drama for another. It did not end the drama that is the Miami Dolphins.

Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith are no longer members of the team. Fans were quite vocal against the trade when it was announced, but it was a move Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel needed to make.

The Dolphins may have received a 2027 fifth-round pick in addition to Minkah Fitzpatrick, but they also got the Steelers to take on all of Ramsey’s contract. That alone is impressive, but what is more important is that Miami got rid of a player who didn’t want to be here.

Dave Hyde is one of the longest-tenured South Florida reporters in Miami. Following Monday’s move, he criticized the Dolphins for making the trade that brought Ramsey to Miami. The truth is, Ramsey may have been great on the field sometimes, but he was also part of a much larger problem the team has been trying to shed this offseason.

“Got him for 3rd-round pick, spent $52M on him, (including re-doing already big contract), saw him fight with Fangio, contribute lightly to Sam Madison’s firing, fight with McDaniel, be constantly late (with Tyreek Hill) and be unable to trade him for anything bc of his contact. And got a season-and-half of play. Yep, disaster.”

    Dave Hyde – VIA ‘X’

Dolphins reporter says quiet part out loud about Jalen Ramsey’s tenure

Hyde didn’t say anything that isn’t true.

If Ramsey was part of the issues in the locker room, Mike McDaniel’s effort to change it was probably what sparked the head-butting between the two. Ramsey has been a distraction at seemingly every stop he has made in the NFL. The biggest surprise is that he actually managed to get a raise in this trade from the Steelers.

It won’t take much to get Hill out of the Dolphins organization. He is on thin ice as it is and the only thing keeping him around is his relationship with Tua, the fact McDaniel likes him, and more importantly, his contract. Fortunately, his contract flips for Miami in 2026.

The Dolphins can save over $30 million regardless of whether they release Hill before or after June 1. They will only eat $12 to $15 million, depending on the designation. What Hyde said carries weight in terms of Hill. If he doesn’t get his act together, he will be gone a year from now, if not before then.

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I always wondered who was showing up late. Both should be gone….epic failure on CG’s part….wasted draft capital and money with nothing to show for it EXCEPT a needed/required culture change and a coach who doesn’t know how to lead/discipline players. Exposed.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

but they also got the Steelers to take on all of Ramsey’s contract.

      ———–

Actually they didn’t. Dolphins absorbed an extra 3m. That is why we are only clearing about 3m instead of 6m in 2025.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Mike’s Steeler’s fan friend was all over the Ramsey attitude part of acquiring him, and doesn’t want this malcontent

      addition by subtraction

Ramsey had issues with Fangio, Fangio leaves and has the #1 D for the SB champs

maybe we got rid of the wrong guy a year ago

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Fangio wanted to be in Philly and having to deal with the Dolphins’ “culture” was icing on the cake for him.

  26. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Tom Pelisaro brings up a good point on MM, in that he’s tied to Tua, so if you get rid of MM do you really want Tua to start over with a new coach?

I think not, MM will likely be our coach at least 2 more years, when Tua’s dead money gets to a reasonable figure

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yeah 2027. I think that is why it is still hit or miss for me on drafting a QB early next year. If Klubnik or even Nussmeier are there, as a GM you have to take one of them. Though, there should be a couple good QB prospects in the 3rd and 4th. Mateer, Weigman, dude from Illinois and Haynes King are just a couple of those mid round guys.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

But, do you draft a QB early next year when you may have a new HC come 2027?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Though, they could let MM go after the season and replace him with Weaver and keep Frank Smith as OC.

We could lose the both of them after the season. I hope not.

  27. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I’m not sold on Klubnick….curious how he does this year, however. He’s a WHS product so I’ll root for him.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Same. If he puts together another solid year, I will be. Clemson is going to be tough this year. They have top 50 players in just about every position group, except RB and TE.

  28. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

How many times have we been in 3rd and long and all our receivers are just going thru the motions, because of the coverage and Tua just chucks it up to Hill

Waller is the guy you can throw it to, when no one is open and have a decent chance for a completion

3rd down, 5 receivers, Hill/Waddle/Waller/Ikhine and 1 of Achane/Washington, that’s a lot of different skill sets for any matchup

  29. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Mike,

yes, Nimmo and Lindor have had quite the power surge! Let’s hope the Mets can get back on track and take this series from the Yankees. I’d love to sweep them, as most of my friends and family members are Yankees fans.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Cubbies with a HR fest yesterday! Set a team record with 8 HR’s in one game for the team. That put them 3rd in MLB with 133 HR’s in 88 games. Crow-Armstrong hit 2 HR’s and 1B Busch hit 3 HR’s.

That had to be a fun game to be at for a Cub fan!

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

yes, it killed me when they traded Crow-Armstrong for Baez and Williams. You knew they were going to be short term rentals. I think Williams stayed for three years and did decent, but here we are searching for a center fielder when we had one in the minors that was projected to be really good.

  30. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Ramsey was a known malcontent. That’s why I was a “hell no” on signing him. Yet another move that should never have happened. It didn’t take a brain pilot to see this coming.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Me too. Those guys are happy initially, but it’s only a matter of time before their true colors come through.

  31. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I think teams were more than happy to let Tua throw the ball short or behind the LOS to Jonnu last year. They all knew we weren’t gonna beat anybody doing that, but it meant we weren’t throwing it down the field to our playmakers. Jonnu did his job. I’m fine with what he did, but it’s not like it was anything special. It also wasn’t a big adjustment. Teams just chose to let us do it.

Waller? Ok. The sixth rounder isn’t a big deal, but it is a pick you can use to sweeten other deals. I’m not gonna get bent out of shape over a sixth rounder though. What I don’t get is Waller is known to be very soft. I thought we were trying to move away from that sort of player. It’s not like teams are gonna just let us plug him into what Jonnu was doing last year and not try to stop it if It starts to be a big part of our offense. If I’m a defensive player, I pound the shit out of Waller and wait for him to quit. I hit him as hard as I can every single play he’s on the field.

    ———-

    LOL @ “brain pilot”! 😆

  33. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    BBM,

I thought the Kyle Crabbs video you posted yesterday was quite interesting. So we obviously have to make a few moves cap-wise to get under the cap… but if we really wanted to (and I’m not necessarily endorsing as much for obvious reasons), we could restructure a player or two and land another bigger name.

I think we have a need at starting/boundary CB. Even Crabbs was saying about adding a CB. Weaver runs a predominantly zone system. It’s now July, and almost all legit FA CBs have already been signed. Time is running out. There’s only one CB left out there that meets the above criteria… Asante Samuel Jr.

Now granted ASJ is medically clean and cleared in the coming days or weeks (don’t know the date or time when the recheck happens in July), I have a hunch we might be going after him. If he fails the medical recheck, well then nothing to see here.

What do YOU think? Might we enter the ASJ sweepstakes, or do you think our spending is over?

  34. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And I STILL want to bring Emmanuel Forbes to Miami. $2.2M this year and $2.9M next year. He’s a ZONE boundary CB… something the Redskins failed to utilize him as, though they drafted him @ R1P16 in the ’23 Draft.

He’s a member of the Rams now, due to their failure in Washington. I wonder what the Rams would accept in terms of a trade? Perhaps a 4th rounder? I dunno.

  35. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’m not sure our DC will use 3 safeties but I’m guessing he wants sure tackling players. If you’re playing a 3 safety look it means you’re hoping to keep plays short or medium and tackle. If you can’t come up and make tackles in that sort of defense, it’s kinda pointless. Any CBs who can tackle? More safeties usually means better tackling too.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Our stable of CBs is so young… I really don’t know if we have any CBs who are sure-fire tacklers at the NFL level yet. Good point.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I do think Darth Kader has become a somewhat reliable tackler from the slot/nickel, but aside from him, I think the book is still out on the rest of our CB room in terms of tackling prowess.

    ————

With due respect to you, Krishna, I don’t believe Minkah was a “quitter” at all. It all goes back to Brian Flores when he was our HC, and by almost all accounts, he was a class-A ASSHOLE.

    5x Pro-Bowl and 3x 1st team All-Pro doesn’t define Minkah as a “quitter”.

Krishna, both you and I realize that our FO SUCKS, and it has for a great many years. That’s where the true problem lies… in our FO. Steve Ross needs to sell, IMO.

  41. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the same people that want us to sign a CB like Rasul (Poyer2.0) hate the Minkah trade

    I don’t get it

Minkah brings lots of intangibles, that alone is worth the trade from an on field perspective, except his cap hit says he better be able to play at a relatively high level top and he can

Put in the right position, he’ll be a stud, put in the wrong position…but Weaver is smarter than that, I have faith

  42. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Fine…does MFFF want to be here? Let him lead, who else? Lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

his problem was with Flores, not the Fins organization

I’d say for 2025 safety is now a strength, we have a star, 4 guys competing for 1 starting spot 2 with exp, and depth

  43. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

don’t think for a second Grier is done wheeling and dealing, and don’t be shocked, if he turns around and trades Minkah

sure we need a S, but his cap may be too high to keep, we’ll see

Flipping Minkah for a draft pick didn’t cross my mind. I don’t think they go that route unless we are sucking by the trade deadline and Minkah is playing well.

Contenders with a need at safety and current cap:

Bengals – 32.6m (but need to work out deal with Hendrickson)

      Vikings – 25.7m

      Others with safety need:

      Jaguars – 19.3m

      Jets – 36.9m

      Saints – 23.2

That’s per Walter Football 3 days ago.

    —————

That’s an intriguing thought… to flip Minkah and his $15M this year ($17.6M next year), for say, a day 2 draft pick next year. That would give us some cap relief we so direly need (both this year and next), while adding to our Draft cupboard in ’26.

Yes… we’ll see what happens. I do believe it’s a possibility and I never considered that angle. And if it doesn’t materialize, oh no(!!!)… we’ll have a 3x 1st-team All-Pro playing Safety for us! 😀

    Either way, we’ll be WINNING!!!

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IF the intention is to flip Minkah, my dream scenario would be to trade him to the Rams for Emmanuel Forbes and a 3rd rounder in return.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Okay, okay! I think I just answered the question at hand. Yes.. there are far more benefits for us trading Minkah rather than retaining him… especially if our FO firmly believes we aren’t making a Super Bowl run this season.

It’s probably in our very best interest to trade Minkah.

So much so that Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was calling out Miami’s plays before they happened. Still, the defense held its ground, allowing just nine points and forcing key third-down stops. That performance alone offered a glimpse into what Weaver brings to the table in crunch time.”

Time of the Season to Hope Beyond Logic

    Posted by Carlos Milanes | Jul 7, 2025 |

July is finally here, the first month we see our favorite team in training camp. Rookies report on July 15th, and veterans on July 22nd.

We also see the first pre-season game of the year, the Hall of Fame game between the Detroit Lions and the LA Chargers, on July 31.

This is the first preseason game of many, as we quickly grow bored with preseason and look forward to September 4, the opening game on Thursday Night Football between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Yet this time of year, as we have finally reached the starting month of the 2025 NFL season, we can pretend about our Miami Dolphins gridiron fate and be delusionally optimistic.

Despite what we have witnessed, experienced, and read about the Dolphins’ 2025 offseason actions, or lack thereof, this is the time to forget all the predictions of NFL pundits who forecast another mediocre and “blah” season for the Miami Dolphins.

So, let’s pretend together on our magic carpet ride and give ourselves a reason to look forward to the Dolphins’ 2025 season.

    To name a few:

    • Tua Tagovailoa is entering his sixth year as a pro. It seems like yesterday that we drafted him in 2020 to be the heir apparent to Dan Marino, and maybe this is the year he will rewrite the numerous narratives surrounding him.

    • Edge rushers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips return to their pre-injury Pro Bowl form, and with second-year player Chop Robinson, this tandem consistently disrupts the offensive backfield.

    • The defensive backfield performs well enough to be competitive and minimize mistakes, with Minkah Fitzpatrick assuming a leadership role.

    • The Dolphins conquer the short-yardage problems, resulting in the best conversion rate in short-yardage situations during McDaniel’s tenure.

    • Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill surpass their 2023 record-setting performances.

    • The Dolphins’ running game is once again successful, but this year, it has a more physical style led by newcomers James Daniels and Jonah Savaiinaea on the offensive line.

    • Mike McDaniel turns back the clock and adopts a more disciplined approach to coaching his players.

    Delusional?

Of course it is, and why not?

If we want to be delusional as fans and hope against reality, this is the time of the year to do so.

something to think about: Ramsey didn’t have good numbers last year, mainly because of those around him, notable passrush

little to no passrush can turn a Ramsey into a 70 pff grade, from the 80s, while a very good passrush can turn a below avg CB to a little above avg

even with Grier’s mess MM should’ve been able to get us a playoff berth

both should’ve been fired at year’s end

Since then Grier has done an about face, acquiring good talent with very little cap space

it is my thought that its mostly on the HC, he asks for the type of players you acquire, the GM in conjunction with the HC set out to acquire the requested, then the GM does his thing

Hell, the Pitt QB had 3 concussions in a year a few years ago and he played 4 days after his 2nd and the media said NOTHING.

Pete Carroll tried to trade him upon becoming the new Raiders HC, but there were no takers.

If he acts up or is late for a meeting? CUT his ass! It’s THAT BLOODY SIMPLE!!! For around $1M, he might not even qualify for our top-51 salary cap!!!

Very seriously… if Damon Arnette can get a second chance after absolutely SUCKING thus far in the NFL and for doing FAR, FAR worse than Jack Jones off the field, why can’t Jack Jones get a mulligan for being a good guy for over a year?!!

Arnette was signed by the Texans during this offseason, as Jack Jones seems to be getting black-balled.

If you’ll recall, Arnette was the one who made several videos with an arsenal of guns, promising to KILL ANYBODY who funked with him… especially fans. He was immediately released by the Raiders… and then Chris Grier signed him to our PS… SMH.

Jack Jones had a burglary charge back in college, foolishly forgot to take a gun out of his take-on bag at an airport, and was reportedly late for a few meetings while with the Patsies*… not while with the Raiders last season.

I dunno, y’all! Jack Jones seems to be on the road to redemption and is taking his football career very seriously with NFL success… while Arnette hasn’t even shown a glimmer of NFL talent with antics that should have him BANNED from the NFL.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

For whatever it’s worth, the Texans are paying Arnette just north of $1M for ’25. They know they can cut him if he acts up.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention… Jack Jones is a ZONE CB, not a man-to-man CB. That’s part of the reason Pete Carroll cut him.

I think Jack Jones would fit in just fine in Anthony Weaver’s zone-friendly scheme.

  68. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Give Jones a shot

  69. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Here’s a fun stat to play around with!

Sam Madison had 2 career INTs for TDs. Pat Surtain had 2 career INTs for TDs.

In a combined 23 seasons, Sam Madison and Pat Surtain had a combined 4 INTs for TDs.

Jack Jones has 4 career INTs for TDs in a mere 3 seasons… with only one season as a full-time starter (last season for the Raiders).

    THAT’S CRAZY!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  70. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

For those of you who have known me for a long time (dating back to 2006), y’all should know how much I LOVED Champ Bailey as a player. And YES… I still have his REDSKINS jersey (prior to the Clinton Portis trade with Denver), that’s how much I appreciated the athlete Champ was as a CB coming out of Georgia.

According to Pro Football REFERENCE, Champ holds the all-time record for career passes defended (PDs, only tracked since 1999), with 203. He did that with 212 career starts. So when we do the math, he averaged roughly .96 PDs per game over the course of his 15-year career. That’s rather IMPRESSIVE!!!

Alright, so let’s shrink it down as we compare Champ to Jack Jones. Let’s talk about ratios in terms of BOTH of their first 3 seasons in the NFL. Champ had 48 PDs in 48 games started (1:1). Jack Jones has 27 PDs in 21 games started (1.3:1).

Make NO MISTAKE! I’m NOT comparing Jack Jones to the my great CHAMP! Obviously, Champ started more than TWICE the games Jones had in his first 3 seasons, and for obvious reasons… that’s where the stats end, as one is a man-to-man CB (WAY more valuable) while the other is a zone CB (MUCH less valuable).

What I AM sayin’? One would be an absolute lunatic not to give Jack Jones a 1-year, $1.5M contract. His production is totally incredible and he’s a zone-fit for our Defense.

Unless we’re really TRYING to tank this season, there’s no reason NOT to bring Jack Jones into the fold on the cheap. JMO, as always… and I’m STILL wanting to bring X back. I want to WIN!!!

This free agency mistake is aging horribly for the Dolphins

    ByBrian Miller|12 hours ago

No one will ever know why the Miami Dolphins made the decision to let one of their more versatile linebackers leave the organization, but they did. Now, he continues to showcase why it remains a mistake.

Andrew Van Ginkel was all heart and soul. Much like Jim Jensen under Don Shula, AVG could play a myriad of roles, none with absolute authority, but all of them with 100 percent effort and conviction. Van Ginkel was a standout on a defense full of holes and injuries.

When it was time to get a new deal, Chris Grier never picked up the phone to make an offer. The Minnesota Vikings and Brian Flores did, and away the talented linebacker went. It didn’t take long to prove his value or his worth. His first year in Minnesota culminated in his first Pro Bowl nod — not as an alternate, mind you, like say, Jonnu Smith.

Van Ginkel’s performance last season has earned him another first; he placed on the NFL Top 100 players list ahead of the 2026 season, coming in at No. 88, three spots higher than a certain Dolphins QB.

Andrew Van Ginkel lands three spots ahead of Tua Tagovailoa on the NFL Top 100 list

This is not a knock on Tua Tagovailoa, who spent six games off the field last season, but it is a virtual applause for a player who has consistently given everything he has to continue playing in the NFL.

Players like AVG rarely make it four seasons, let alone into a second contract, but he is also the type of player who has the instincts to make up for what he might lack.

There is no way around calling the loss of Van Ginkel a mistake by the Dolphins. Chris Grier blew it, and given the issues the team had at linebacker last season, AVG would have solved some of them.

    _________

AVG! Another head scratcher by CG…lol.

I think the defense has some nice pieces up front. I think our LBers are Ok but nothing special. Im fine with where they are but they could be improved too. Our backend is simply terrible. Fitzpatrick helps, but I gotta see how he plays this year before I am convinced. After him, it’s fugly.

I think this offense has a lot to prove. Can Tua stay healthy and even if he does can he beat good teams in big games no matter where they’re played? Can MM actually be an effective play caller now that teams figured him out? Can he adjust? Can he be a leader? Can this OL perform? Can they stay healthy too? Who’s gonna play TE and can they be more than a blocker? Will our RBs step up and help balance out this offense? Sure, he might bust a big one up the middle from time to time, but it’s much more likely he’ll hit a big one beating somebody in the flat.

I’d like to see us use a smart combo of Achane and Wright with a sprinkling of other guys to do whatever. I see Achane more as a mismatch guy, and I want to exploit that as much as possible. I don’t think it was a stretch to suggest he hasn’t shown he’s gonna be a guy you want running a ton of inside stuff, taking hits and moving piles…not never…but not a lot either. Have you seen something different?

I know. The game is not the same as in the past. It’s not built to run like that because you have to throw the ball to win these days. But you have to run to keep defenses honest. The power back thing is overrated. It’s about executing plays.

The Texans and Browns are such shitty organizations that their sewage has overflowed and infected the rest of the league. They gave fully guaranteed contracts to their second round picks and now there are 30+ unsigned rookies all trying to hold out for the same, including Jonah Savaiinaea.

The CBA slotted salaries so now agents are trying to press for what they are allowed to within the CBA which includes guarantees and bonus structures.

Randy, I wasn’t taking a shot at you. I thought is was amusing that your first paragraph chastised us for leaping to conclusions and then you proceed to leap to conclusions. No offense intended.

For me the OL, secondary and backup QB position are the things to watch once camp starts.

  84. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Has anyone considered that the run game may have fallen off a cliff last season because we used Smith so much at TE and he is not a blocker? I know the Oline had a yuge drop off as well with Jackson being injured and Eich starting so many games and Armstead being banged up all year.

Also active blocking by the WR’s is imperative to our scheme and Hill had a wrist problem all year and couldn’t block.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I have, the OL is going to look very different and I think the additions of Brown at TE and NWI at receiver were philosophy targets along with Mattison.

  85. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Our center is ELITE at blocking safeties and CBs…….

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Just wish he was passable blocking DTs….

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Remember the battles Mawae and Zach had? Centers rarely go man on man with DTs, there is a lot of movement, chipping and double teams.

The scheme we run is more movement than pure power.

  86. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tim, re: “I know TE is questionable but I’m hoping for more blocking from them.”

Some people consider TE room an issue but I don’t (until next season). We got some guys who can block in Brown, Hill and Rucci. Not sure about Conyers yet.

I mean in 2023 our TE’s were Smythe, Rookie Julian Hill, Tyler Kroft and Tanner Conner. Yikes! Mostert ran for over 1000 yards,18 TD’s and Achane 800 yards, 8 TD’s with that TE group.

The TE room looks much better on paper right now. It’s all on the OL, IMO.

    ———-

Good point on your part, but you’re forgetting one VERY important aspect: man-to-man matchups in short-yardage sits. In those cases, every Center goes man-to-man with DTs.

I can’t ever remember a ZBS O-Line running a ZBS in short-yardage sits. Why? IT TAKES TOO LONG TO DEVELOP for a short-yardage sit.

I believe Aaron Brewer is a ZBS STUD of a Center, but he certainly becomes a liability in short-yardage sits being he weighs — in some cases — 75 pounds lighter than the bigger DTs in the NFL.

So in short-yardage running sits, you’d better believe opposing Defenses are prepared for us to run behind Guard or Tackle… unless Alec Ingold is the lead blocker in a 2-back set. And even if Ingold is the lead blocker — all 232 pounds of him — behind the diminutive Brewer at Center, it’s likely to be highly ineffective.T

NOT trying to be a downer, rather I realize the shortcomings of our beloved team.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

just run behind Ingold and will be all right

I wonder if the loss of Jonnu means Ingold plays a little

      more?

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Don’t know, my flying porcine pal. I do know Ingold suffered some injuries last season. If he’s fully healthy, I’d guess he’ll see more playing time with the loss of Jonnu.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m still hoping we have a 3rd TE to Waller and Brown

but it’s not the end of the world to see if some one else steps up

I think we are just looking for an additional blocker who can catch a few passes here and there

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

        I hear that and agree.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So while we’re on the topic of Aaron Brewer (who I really am high on as a ZBS blocking Center), we most certainly don’t want to have Tua running any QB sneaks under Brewer for obvious reasons (concussions, and Brewer is a bantam weight at Center).

So that takes yet another element away from us, due to Brewer’s lack of sand in the pants… and obviously the concussion ordeal with Tua. But even if we had a healthy Josh Allen-sized QB, I’d not look to go with a QB sneak under Center with Brewer.

The bright side (I always try to see both sides of the coin)? As it pertains to goal line sits, we’ve now got tall targets with Darren Waller and NWI (not to be confused with a DWI) in the fold. Maybe… just maybe, Tua’s TD passes will increase this season in the redzone.

What’s the ONLY QB metric Tua has yet to lead the NFL in? TD PASSES. He’s due to do it.

  88. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think we really have any elite OL

but I think we may have a starting 5 that can play together for 16-17 games

ANd I think that’s more important

  89. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, we don’t run a power scheme, it’s more about movement. We’ll see if that changes this year.

  90. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

I think we’re all aware that we aren’t a power running team but at some point every team needs to pick up a yard or two. It’s just harder to do that the further out from center you run. So, a very small center and a small RB doesn’t really lend itself to picking up a tough yard or two. We failed constantly trying to do it with outside runs and even passes.

I’m not saying we should transition to a power scheme. I’m saying we need to come up with some way to start converting on short yardage. I leave that up to MM. There are options. Let’s all see what he does.

I think sometimes leaders need to display a little fire and set expectations strongly. I have seen excellent leaders throughout decades get there point across when a little fire in their tone.

There was nothing over the top here…lol.

For me its hard to say our skill position players aren’t better than last year, especially considering last year’s production

odd man out is Jonnu, replaced by NWI and Waller

Tyreek healthy, RBs and hopefully everyone else to benefit from better OL play

Washington with a year of experience

I’d say much greater chance we’re better
