Stop the nonsense! Sign Savaiinaea

I know just about all of the Finsmobunleashed group up to a point. I have met just about all of you, and/or have conversed on this blog for over a decade. I know one thing remains constant across the board, and that’s that we all want this team to win and have a great season. There is an exception, and that would probably be me. No one here perhaps with the exception of Rock is more critical of GM Chris Grier, and yes, sometimes, admittedly I hope that if this team fails this season, Miami Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross would finally fire GM Chris Grier and hold him accountable. For those of you that just want the Dolphins to play well and win, let’s took a look at the evidence of why we need to sign OG Jonah Savaiinaea and have him prepared and as ready as possible to begin this season, shall we?

“For us, just candid, this was a player we had targeted, we spent a lot of time with, we had him in on a 30 visit, spent a lot of time at all-star games,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said of Savaiinaea in April. “Butch (Barry) went out and spent a day with him and had a private workout with him. This is a player that we were very convicted on for what he can add with his size, his power, he’s got versatility.

“He’s played tackle, guard. So he’s an athletic kid, and as we spent time getting to know him he was the right kind of guy for us. He loves ball, he’s very competitive, so for us it was important as we were going through the board that he was the highest rated guy we had. And so the opportunity arose and we took it.”

That was Chris Grier, in his own words. He didn’t select this player and trade up for him so he can play contract games with him and have him miss learning his job and being an integral part of this offensive line, immediamente! Grier took Big Jonah Savaiinaea to start at one of the offensive guard spots and it looks like that’s going to be RG, with free agent OG James Daniels slotted to play LG. I know we all worry about different things at different times but all of a sudden some of you have become the responsible police on cap management and contracts. Stop the nonsense! Grier has been absurdly irresponsible regarding the cap, handing out extensions to the wrong players, letting our own players go in free agency and overpaying for others teams free agents in trades and free agency. The totality of the contract for Jonah Savaiinaea is $11.32M. Just get it done, even if you have to make the whole damn thing guaranteed. Believe me, this contract will not be the one that haunts this team, there are so many others with far worse ramifications and bad results that I can point to.

I’m sorry, I love you all here, but if you really want this team to succeed, you know that our rookie RG needs to have every minute in training camp so he can be the most prepared he can possibly be, so now is not the time to put the cork in the bottle. If we were going to do that, we wouldn’t have allowed Grier to extend Jalen Ramsey who is now on the Pittsburgh Steelers, or Tyreek Hill who will probably play his least season in 2025 with the Dolphins as his cap hit becomes unacceptable in 2026. I’ll add in the contract for QB Tua Tagovailoa who if they played him on his 5th year option, would have been far less after once again missing 6 games and failing to get the Dolphins a playoff victory and continues the streak of no playoff wins to 25 years. We wouldn’t have traded multiple picks to acquire Bradley Chubb and pay him the money that could have been used to pay our own DT Christian Wilkins or OG Robert Hunt. Since we got Bradley Chubb in 2022, he has given us 13.5 sacks. He’s currently on a 3YR/$54M contract that runs through 2027 when Chubb will be age 31. So, worrying about guaranteeing the $11.32M for Jonah Savaiinaea is not the biggest problem. I know you’re worried about precedent, that we’ll have to pay every 2nd RD pick from now on a guaranteed contract. You know what, draft better, and it won’t really matter much now or in the future!

Kay Adams says Jaylen Wright was tied with Saquan Barkley and Bijon Robinson for most yards after contact at 3.4 yards. Give that man the ball!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

his early tape was good, until Jackson got hurt and the likes of crappy and crappier took over the line

we were all clamoring for more carries early in the season

and he’s focused this year, his training has been that of someone with a chip

  2. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

MikeE., I’ve been with you on this. Yeah, you don’t want to set a precedent, but the Dolphins situation is different. Many of these other second round picks are not slotted to come in and be a starter like Jonah. Those teams can afford to play hard ball. The Dolphins need their starting RG in camp.

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So basically your premise for this article is Grier sucks and does stupid shit so we should encourage him to do stupid shit? Fully guaranteeing 2nd round pick salaries is bad for the league. Period. It should not be done, even if “we need him” Well we “needed” Byron Jones when we made him the highest paid CB in the league, then we needed Xavian Howard when we made him the highest paid CB in the league the same season, then we needed Ramsey when we made him the highest paid CB in the league. None of whom are on the team, so did we really need them?

This is just on position group that the team as fucked up again and again, it has happened on every squad. Many draft picks thrown away to move up for guys we “needed” like the guy who everyone fears will be the starter if the ROOKIE doesn’t get to camp on them. Eichenburg. Moved up to take him in the 2nd round (giving up a third round pick to do so, just like the new golden boy!!) how did that work out? They were sure about Eich too!

I will say it IT IS STUPID to cave to the whims of agents because we “need” a rookie. Our season is already doomed if that is the case…

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yes Rock, you’ve caught up to what I’m saying. The only thing I’d add is getting Savaiinaea signed immediately even with a fully guaranteed contract wouldn’t be another stupid move, it would be a very smart and necessary move

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    GO FIRE BOMBS!

  5. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Believe me, this contract will not be the one that haunts this team, there are so many others with far worse ramifications and bad results that I can point to.

There, you have it, Mike’s logic on why we need to sign Jonah now

I know signing him now isn’t a good idea, but its not the worst thing we can do, so its ok

did I get that right? 🤣

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yes, and no. I don’t think signing Saviinaea is a bad idea. The contract guarantee, even if we have to guarantee it all won’t kill us either way. All those other moves though have put us where we’re at now.

  6. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Oh, and thanks for the new article Mike, even though I strongly disagree with it.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

All good! If we all agreed, it would be even more boring to come here and read about this shitty team we root for!

  7. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I agree with Chubb trade was a huge mistake, I believe that was a Ross move

he said at the time get me a championship, whatever it costs, so Grier fired away to keep Stevie happy

Grier must’ve said, (in a southeast Texas voice) yessir, but I want to be on record, that this is a bad idea and don’t want you holding me accountable for something I didn’t want

when we all thought Grier should’ve been fired he pulled out this get out of jail free card

  8. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

reading some headlines about Jonah, I see one that says just sign him now we need…(I want my Jonah, I want him now…Vertical Salt)

  9. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If the vets report and still no Jonah, the concern level will go up, if we get to unpadded practices, it will go up a little higher, but we’re still aiight, if he starts missing padded practices get ready to sound the alarm, until that point Francis, relax

  10. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

I think we need every player we can get on the OL. Jonah is no different. But, this kid is not gonna just step in and ball. He has a lot to learn and work on to play guard. Of course I want him in camp as soon as possible. That goes for every rookie. But, this kid is not the key to our success on the OL. Hopefully, he’s a big part of our OL moving forward. Hopefully, he can transition to guard without too many hiccups. Hopefully, he gets as much practice as he can. But, I’m just not worried about singing a rookie OL. I don’t like Grier much either, but this is just not that big of a deal in the big picture, to me.

Grier elevated expectations for Jonah when he traded up for him, but i still see Jonah as a low 2nd rounder, at best. Whether he starts immediately or not isn’t a big concern for me. I just hope Jonah isn’t buying into the hype and is ready to work and grind .

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I agree with just about everything you said, I also think we overdrafted Jonah, but I also feel that a solid O-line is the only chance for this offense to be as good as it can be, and unfortunately, we’re relying on Jonah, for better or for worse, to be a solid player NOW, because we don’t have another guy that could potentially do his job better on the roster, and can’t afford to find one elsewhere.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

that’s the key, we’re relying on Jonah to be solid

don’t really think anyone expects him to hit the ground running

last years OL was atrocious and we still had a shot at playoffs

this year I expect the OL to start out how we started last year, decent, then as the season goes on it should help, with Jonah and PP getting comfortable and Daniels getting back to form, when that happens depends on if we can challenge Buffalo

My goal has always been getting the team moving forward come playoff time

the last few playoffs we’ve been a shell of the team that got us there, Tannehill hurt, Tua hurt, everyone but Tua hurt

  11. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

last night the Nick Emmanwori and TJ Saunders signed

their contracts were pretty much full guaranteed

that’s the 35th pick and the 41st pick

our guy is the 37th pick

    this stalemate is over

if you don’t think the 2nd round picks and their agents have already won – you are being very naive

at this point if the Dolphins refuse to sign Jonah and fully or almost fully guaranty his contract – that’s just being stupid

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I repeat what someone else posted earlier. When the Browns guaranteed jerk-off boys entire contract, the rest of the league didn’t follow suit by guaranteeing all the other QB’s contracts. It is stupid to follow suit on 2nd round contracts, like it would have been to guarantee all QB contracts.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:
      • Contract Value: $6,911,696 ($1,727,924 APY)
      • Fully Guaranteed Money: $4,163,624

      Paul’s 2nd round contract from 2024

you can make up your own mind, if the agents won

looks like they are getting a larger %, but that’s a huge difference from getting fully guaranteed

Fully guaranteed for all 2nds means 2026 3rds are next for the fully guaranteed game

  12. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

This is the final off-season for EZE on the Dolphins. Too bad he has that neck issue. But we have Westbrook-Ikhine to do what we drafted EZE to do now.

  13. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

I agree! I just mostly ignore all the business side of the football. It just gets so boring and monotonous. I know some folks enjoy that stuff too and that’s fine. While I would like for every player to get as much practice as possible, missing a training camp isn’t a death knell. It’s not good, but by week 8 it doesn’t matter anymore.

I might feel differently if I felt this team had a real chance of doing anything this year, but I don’t. I’m hoping to be wrong!! I’m more worried about how this offensive line will be performing in a couple years than I am about this year.

It certainly seems like it does Randy. This is the guy they had to have, had to trade up to get him early in RD 2. That better be a day 1 starter or you’re a shitty GM. Well, we know that he is, but some people here won’t admit it until he’s gone.

    Reply

    Two words for yah,

Liam Eichenberg (42nd overall pick, traded a 3rd to move up for him) Sound familiar? (change it to 37th pick for Jonah)

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I have mentioned that, I’m fully aware. Chris grier was pretty safe back then. Now, he isn’t, or at least he shouldn’t be. We’ll see if he’s ever held accountable

  15. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

People are pissed at Grier for things mostly every team is doing

Im pissed too, but is it clueless?

We don’t see behind the scenes, so really have no clue, all we have to go by is what he says, draft picks and trades are behind the scenes, so…

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

just be careful what you wish for

is a playoff win, followed by 15 years similar to the years after our last win, worth blowing ut up for?

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

DT Christian Wilkins (foot) has been placed on the physically unable to perform list ahead of training camp.

  17. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

TE Mason Taylor (Round 2, No. 42 overall) agreed to terms on his rookie contract, NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported on Friday. Taylor’s $10.46 million deal includes $9.56 million guaranteed.

Still makes me sick the Jets drafted him.

  18. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Looks like most of these guys are getting 90% guaranteed contracts.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Can you think of the last 2nd order we drafted, that didn’t play out his rookie contract? Pat White?

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Raekwon McMillan, Jamar Taylor, Jonathan Martin, Daniel Thomas (DT3!!), John Beck, Eddie Moore

But it’s really hard to say because we didn’t have 2nd round picks in ’02,’04,’06,’19 or ’22

Cam Smith is a bust as the room mate of Grier’s son

Eichenberg played out his rookie contract, but wasn’t worth the 2nd invested in him

Raekwon Davis was a rotational guy, not a bust but did not live up to his 2nd round pick

Pat White as you mentioned was not worth the 2nd spent on him.

Samson Satele didn’t live up to his 2nd round pick

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

None of those 11 guys were worth fully guaranteed contracts and the guys we threw away the picks for in 02, 04, 06, 19 & 22 were just as bad.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

yeah I think the writing on the wall despite people insisting it’s not

  19. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – that’s such an absolutely weak argument, be careful what you wish for. I wish for greatness, Grier could be here a hundred years, he couldn’t find it because he’s not it. Same argument for keeping Tua, because he’s possibly the best of the worst QB’s we’ve had here for 25 years or more. You aim high, always try to get better. Grier, MM and Tua ain’t it, hopefully next year we can move on from at least 2/3 of that. Tua can’t be cut because of his salary next season but they can draft his replacement, which won’t happen with Grier and MM still here and i wouldn’t want them to make that selection anyway

  20. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The #Dolphins have agreed to terms with G Jonah Savaiinaea, sources tell me and

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I want Grier gone, and cap conscience. I also want him to do the right thing for players that deserve it, which Sieler certainly does. It would look real bad to let him go underpaid and not give him a raise.

  38. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Next draft is shaping up to be a really good OT draft. The list is growing but there seems to be at least 10-12 1st and 2nd round talents. Utah probably has the best OT duo in the country with Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu, PFF has them both ranked #1 and #4 right now. Fano is the best run blocking OT in the country.

I don’t see us drafting one in the 1st round, but I think it will be a mistake not to take one with one of our 4 picks in the top 3 rounds.

We have absolutely no depth there in 2026 prior to free agency.

  39. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Wish there was a better or more official site for cap. Spotrac shows us a current cap space of $1,244,642 after Jonah’s signing. Jonah’s cap hit this year is $2,058,632.

OTC shows a cap balance of $1,993,628 but is not reflecting the Jonah signing yet. Per OTC, that would put our cap at -$65,004.

In either case, something will have to be done to someone else’s contract if we were to sign any other players before cuts are made.

  40. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Last 2 posts were for Tim, of course. 😉

I have a couple of sites I use for boxing, including today’s heavyweight title fight, that have been perfect so far. They also do NFL. I’ll share them during the season if they are still up and running when we get there.

Tim – hate to say it but Rock probably will enjoy it. I think there’s a good chance we suck this season

  48. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

So regardless of where we’re at in cap-space (likely just hovering around +$1M), there must be some moves coming (restructures), as BBM and Kyle Crabbs have stated.

The question becomes, just how much $$$ are we trying to clear in these coming moves? That will dictate if we’re truly finished with our roster heading into the opener.

I still want a veteran starting CB (ASJ). And I wonder if perhaps we’ll make a deal to get Michael Mayer, one of the better blocking TEs (he’s a zone-blocker) in the game.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IF we’re trying to be fiscally responsible for once, perhaps we only clear the $$$ necessary in order to sign an emergency FA or two in the event of injuries (HAVE TO!).

On the other hand, perhaps we clear enough cap $pace to sign a couple more FAs to make us more competitive.

      We shall soon see!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

TBH, I don’t see them adding anyone outside of replacing an injured player.

  49. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @grok

Interesting picks! All three are free agents as of now. Dolphins have interest in Rasul Douglas (terms close) and have reached out to Asante Samuel Jr. (post-surgery recovery). Mike Hilton’s slot skills could fit well. Signing one would address the CB depth—excited to see! Who do you favor?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I’m not sold on any of them. Has Douglas lost a step, so I hear. ASJ has LONG history with the neck issue. Hilton would possibly mean moving Kohou outside which is not a good move. Kohou is a good run defender to have in the slot also.

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, I really don’t think we’ll suck this year. I don’t know how high we’ll go though.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

we may suck, don’t think it will be related to something as the team/roster stands now

I like the roster, not sure how quickly things come together

it might be injury related or something MM does or doesn’t do. For example something like taking too much time to get plays in as we’ve seen

  51. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think there’s a good chance we’re the 3rd or 4th best team in our division. In my view, if thst happens, we suck. Do you disagree?

I think you have a suckie outlook, must’ve gone to the Omar school of pessimism

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

you are underestimating how bad the jests and patriots will be

lot of people are predicting the patriots to improve a lot and I think that’s crazy

they won 4 games last year and two of those should be thrown out bc it was the first and last games of the season. The Bills sat all their starters in the patriots final game

there’s a reason that had high draft picks this year

      they are horrible teams

  52. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

if the Dolphins are truly going to let us down

it’s not to lose a lot of games

it’s to be “in the hunt” until the final weeks of the season

that is a typical Dolphins let down

not to be a 4th place team

  53. Randy's avatar Randy says:

8 or 9 wins is basically a .500 season. Average. That is far from a successful season. I don’t see it happening, but anything less than a playoff win is a suck. That would be the expected trajectory for this team if you actually believe it’s on an upward trajectory.

My guess is we hover around 9 wins and miss the playoffs. But, our schedule is an easy one. It’ll make fans feel like we’re better than we are, so the pain of ultimate failure hurts just a little bit more.

Most of you here with a few exceptions are just out and out homers, and that’s fine. I don’t tell anyone how to “fan”. I just think you sometimes have unrealistic views and believe that Grier and McDaniel are capable of doing the right things when in reality they have fucked this team for the last few years. We came into this season with so many needs and even in the draft, we potentially filled two holes when we had multiple ones. Some of you were thrilled about the Ramsey trade that we got Minkah FFF back but the Steelers let him go for a reason, he was a diminished player. Darren Waller is a fucking joke. I’d be willing to take bets with anyone here on projected stats and how many games he plays, if any. You guys dream that the fucker who quit on the NY Giants is going to step right right in and put up numbers similar to Jonnu Smith’s numbers from last year. Like I said, unrealistic, sorry.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

no one said that about Waller

I was right on the Omar school

I believe we have a very competitive roster, if things come together quickly or we catch some breaks early we can challenge Buffalo

overall I don’t really know what to expect with wins/losses

  59. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I have said I think we’ll win 10+/- 1 game. 10-7 isn’t exactly a great season. But, I just think we will be a so-so team. I can see why people think our offense might be productive. That just doesn’t necessarily mean wins to me. I’m not gonna be satisfied with another playoff loss again. That is a step backwards to me.

I’m ready to be surprised though! It’s almost time for my yearly 17-0 prediction once the season starts! Lol

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

      LOL

I think this team will beat someone we aren’t supposed to beat but also will be beat by another team we shouldn’t lose to. That’s why I think we will be in that 9-8 or 10-7 range again.

Last 5 weeks of the season, BBM will be posting about how we need this team to lose, that team to lose, another team to lose and we are in baby.

Then Tim will reply, “I don’t care what other teams do, we just need to win”.

      lol

  60. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Ryder says one camp battle no one is talking about is the #5 DT spot between Biggers and Matthew Butler. Not sure I see that. Butler has really done nothing in 3 years. Of course, we don’t know what Biggers will bring either, but the kid can block some FG’s.

  61. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I don’t bet, but there’s a reason why one team has odds where you have to bet a ton of money to make money and other teams where you can bet a little and win a lot. Where in the latter, which means they don’t think we’re going to win it. Am I wrong?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      and yet…

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

those teams you have to bet a lot are of course KC, Buffalo and Balt, that’s not what we’re talking about, NE slightly ahead of us, because their fans haven’t had much hope for a while they’re now betting em

  62. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

All I’m asking for at this point is a vet CB who can help anchor our CB room. If and when that happens, I’ll be much more optimistic than I am currently… which is cautiously optimistic. It’s a passing league, and I think we NEED a proven vet to defend the pass.

It’s too early to make season predictions, as I hope/believe we’re going to make at least a couple more fairly significant moves before the opener. We’ll see.

As currently constructed? I see an 8 to 9 win season and missing the playoffs. Again, it’s too early.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Another reason why it’s too early? Just wait until one of our starters sustains a major injury in TC, like a torn ACL. Then, the odds go down even further.

  63. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – odds line is st 7.5 wins for the season. Is that because Dolphins fans here know more than they do or because they’re more realistic?

but did you know Nike is designing new “rivalry” uniforms for two divisions this season. Those two divisions are the NFC West and….the AFC East

so we are getting a new alt uniform this year.

there is a rumor going around that we will be getting a black uniform including a black helmet

there is a guy on Twitter that posts about it

    ZachCohenFB

    so check out his timeline

also he says it might incorporate orange which kind of rules out the Miami Vice look the Marlins and Heat have been doing – and I’m happy about that

  67. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

we should wear those uniforms in February

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I think the biggest reason why teams like the Chiefs, Bills, and Ravens and even a couple of other AFC. teams is because it would take a lot of things going wrong for them to not get to where the oddsmakers think they belong. With our team, it’s exactly the opposite, so many things will have to go right, people you usually wouldn’t want to count on will have to have stay healthy and perform at a high level for us to be better.

  69. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Piggy, I like that uniform version. The other black uni that was posted a couple months ago was ugly and used the Miami Marlins colors.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Four of the five teams with the fewest plays lined up in trips come from the Shanahan tree.

  74. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

if we get black jersey as an alt I’m definitely buying one

I would also love to see a grayish one, like the color of a dolphin

  77. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t want us picking up any TE or CB. Stop wasting money, go with what we got!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I agree, let’s see what we got. My guess, ASJ wants too much money and/or guaranteed money and it’s too much risk with his injury history. I think Douglas and Hilton want too much also. It’s been reported that the Dolphins have or had an offer to Douglas, he won’t take it and the Dolphins won’t budge on it.

I don’t think the Dolphins make a move on anyone until cuts happen or an unfortunate injury pops up.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We got lucky last season with Calais, that won’t happen this season. We’ll overpay for a vet who won’t help us and waste more money

    ———————-

VERY happy to hear this. Now let’s not get stupid and offer him a contract we’re going to regret. I understand the problem is that Douglas wants more $$$ than we’re willing to offer, hence the standoff.

Maybe meet him halfway and hedge the bet with incentives over a 2 or 3-year deal. Ensure he isn’t tied to our hip should he flounder, but hope he can flourish.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

By the way, still no word on ASJ’s medical recheck. I think it’s safe to say that he’s not healthy enough to play in ’25.

  86. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I truly understand the thoughts of others when they say to not sign another higher-priced FA… I really do. But keep in mind, we’re not talking about a blockbuster deal for someone in the stratosphere of a Jalen Ramsey at CB.

I kind of understand the thoughts of having our fledgling DBs being forced into the fire, but I also think that has disaster written all over it.

I think it speaks VOLUMES that our FO is still trying to sign a vet CB… wouldn’t ya agree? I’m just happy that my evaluation is being validated by the fact, not the other way around. Apologies if that sounds cocky on my part, but I’m confident that it’s true.

As currently constituted, our DBs (minus Minkah and Darth Kader) will be DESTROYED in this passing league. And I don’t care if our pass-rush arrives on time, every time… if we don’t have decent DBs, mere dump-offs to the outside will kill us.

Just sayin’!!! Don’t kill the messenger…

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And I finally realize why we aren’t interested in Jack Jones, as prolific a BALL HAWK(!!!) as he is… he’s a very unwilling tackler, and that’s putting it lightly.

  87. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

One more thing and I’m out for the night. Please… PLEASE do not restructure Tua’s contract!!! We do NOT want to be on the hook for all of that $$$.

Mike E, I’m talking to everybody, but specifically you. Remember when Jason Taylor said that Trent Green was one hit away from having scrambled eggs? I feel the exact same way about Tua… that he’s one hit away from having scrambled eggs.

I don’t care WHO we restructure, but do NOT restructure Tua. I say that as one of Tua’s biggest fans, being a REALIST, and knowing he’s just one more concussion away from retirement.

  88. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Storm Duck isn’t a disaster in coverage, nor is Kohou, that’s 2 CBs, that can play roughly just below avg, with a good passrush it should get them at least to avg

add in 1 of Bonner, Johnson or Burns and we can field a middling CB group

with Weaver’s scheme we might be good enough

on the other hand i could be wrong and it could be total disaster

just think there’s more of a chance we’ll be ok at CB

  89. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – I will lose my shit if they touch Tua’s contract. We just have to eat this year and next year as it currently stands and then begone from that awful contract. As far as CB’s, I just feel like we’re kinda desperate now because Grier failed to adequately handle the CB corps, but signing some aged vet or even a younger guy like ASJ whose out there for a reason, would be yet another desperate move that will backfire on us as they always do.

  90. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I just don’t want them to keep repeating the same mistakes at the CB position. Just this year, we have over 36m in dead cap just at the CB position. In 2026, we now have about 21m in dead cap at the CB position.

I hear the sports talking heads keep saying this next draft has about 5 top QBs. It’s a little early for the hype machine, so I’m willing to listen to it. Does anybody know what the 2027 draft looks like at QB? Maybe we need to get a QB this coming draft. Give him a year to sit and learn while Tua plays another year. I’m just spitballing. I don’t think this team is gonna win anything with Tua.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Hard to say Randy. Some of the top ones they are talking about for the 2026 draft still have college eligibility and may not declare for the 2026 draft. Arch Manning is #1 on that list as they keep talking about him next draft but he and his family have stated he is not entering the draft until 2027. LaNorris Sellers is another one of the top guys with eligibility left.

NIL deals are keeping some of these QB’s in college longer. Carson Beck is a perfect example. Sellers could get a good NIL deal and not enter the draft for fear of sliding like Jalen Milroe did.

This 2026 QB class could be full of good QB prospects but short on elite talent.

Cade Klubnik, Garrett Nussmeier, Fernando Mendoza and Drew Allar probably will be the best of the “NFL ready” QB’s. I believe Mendoza may have another year of eligibility.

Hard to say how 2027 looks outside of Manning and the kid from Nebraska who thinks he is Mahomes until we see who stays another year.

Outside of a 1st round pick, I really like John Mateer who transferred to Oklahoma. He’s one to keep an eye on this year. Kid brings a running element besides being a decent passer. Last year he passed for 29 TD’s and ran for 15 TD’s at Washington State.

  94. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – The bigger question is if Grier is still here, and doesn’t get fired like he should, do you want him to make that QB selection?

  95. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

If Mateer lasts to the 3rd round, I’m running to the podium. I doubt it and think he climbs draft boards all season. He’s kind of this years Jaxson Dart but a faster and better runner. Posted him before, but:
