The Dolphins finally host a Preseason football game, and mercifully we won’t have to listen to another awful broadcast in which it seems as if our team isn’t even involved in the game. This time, the commentary will be all about our Dolphins, for better or for worse. Look, there are some things to like about our team, but this is the final Preseason game and most likely this game won’t feature very many starters or potentially even 2nd string players, this is mostly a battle for players to make the 53 man roster and avoid being cut.
The Dolphins lost a RB early on in Alexander Mattison. That will give 2nd year RB Jaylen Wright a chance to step up and show he was worth trading a 2025 3rd RD pick to take him last year. Wright saw very little action last season with a paltry 68 carries for 249 yards (3.7 YPC). #1 on the RB depth chart is De’Von Achane who is banged up at the moment but likely to play Week 1 against the Colts, or at least HC Mike McDaniel believes he will be able to play. Either way, Wright should be the #2 back, with rookie Ollie Gordon as the #3 RB. We may see a decent amount of Wright and Gordon, as well as newcomers Mike Boone and Aaron Shampklin. What looked like a strength with Mattison running hard now looks like it could end up being a liability if Wright doesn’t get it into gear. These guys need to be ready, know their blocking responsibilities and be ready to play a lot of football if Achane either can’t go in initially or his injury flares up during the game.
As far as QB, with the good play of rookie QB Quinn Ewers, 7th RD pick (#231) in 2025, you’d have to think we’re going to carry 3 QB’s. Last year’s fiasco when Tua went down won’t be duplicated this year if Tua gets hurt, and realistically, it’s not IF, it’s WHEN. They simply can’t be embarrassed and caught with their pants down like they did last season bringing in multiple practice squad QB’s from other teams and starting them a week later. That’s a big roster spot, having the necessity to carry 3 QB’s. You have to think we’ll carry backup veteran Zach Wilson, and also keep the rookie who shows promise (Quinn Ewers), so there you have it, 3 QB’s. If we dare to put Quinn Ewers on the PS, he’d surely be gone quickly.
The defensive front 7, potentially the strength of this team just got a an early Christmas present. Veteran pass rusher Matt Judon joins an already formidable group of pass rushers in LB’s Jaelan Phillips, Chop Robinson, and Bradley Chubb. Judon signing will allow us 1 less young player, so one of Quinton Bell, Cameron Goode, Grayson Murphy, Derrick McClendon or Mo Kamara will make the roster, while the others hope to get put on the PS. I also so potentially a strength because although we may like what we’ve seen from LDE Kenneth Grant, and even further down the depth chart in Jordan Phillips and Zeek Biggers and RDE Matt Dickerson, we haven’t sen any of these guys in real NFL action yet and they are unknowns. Remember last season, we had a future Hall of Famer in Calais Campbell, a 37 year old dynamo. He was great for us last season, and we don’t know if Grant or even the combination of Grant and Biggers will be equal to what we had in Campbell, and that’s a pretty fair question. Plus, you have to truly consider the health of this group. Can Jaelan Phillips stay healthy, Bradley Chubb? Like Tua, these guys are difficult to rely on or expect an entire season put of.
The inside LB crew is stout, very happy with what we have, but you have to figure we carry only 4 here. Jordyn Brooks and Willie Gay will be the starters and Tyrell Dodson and KJ Britt the backups. I really like what we have, but we won’t have much depth there, especially carrying 3 QB’s. OLB Matt Judon may play a large role here, especially if there’s an injury to one of our starters. It’s also possible he earns more playing time and either Jaelan Phillips or Bradley Chubb become more situational pass rushers to hopefully keep them healthy, we’ll have to see how this works out.
Then we go to Safety where a lot of you are excited about the return of the great Minkah Fitzpatrick. I don’t share your enthusiasm, and to be honest, I don’t think Minkah Fitzpatrick does either. I’m sure he was stung by the trade, big time. That could potentially give him and edge to show Pittsburgh that they made a big mistake, or he could sulk and complain that he doesn’t like being used in various different roles like he did the first time he was here.It seems as if Iffy Melifonwu will join Fitzpatrick as the Strong Safety. Safety is another position where a nice young player will be cut, because we have a glut of young players with potential here in Patrick McMorris, Dante Trader Jr., who will be competing with veteran Ashtyn Davis as well as our own Elijah Campbell.
Then we go to CB, and this game will probably tell us a little bit more about what we will look like back there. Storm Duck and Kendall Sheffield will likely be our outside starting CB’s. Veteran Mike Hilton will be the nickel corner. It’s still possible there could be a change, because veteran Jack Jones might just steal a spot here. Ethan Bonner could also potentially end up starting, but he’s banged up now so we don’t know when he will be available. There’s also rookie NB Jason Marshall and the ever present Cam Smith, who I believe will have exhausted his opportunities and may finally get the axe. You can only be so patient, and Cam Smith has yet to thrust himself into a position where he’s got to be on the roster.
The WR group could prove to be an interesting situation. We know the top 3, Hill, Waddle and Washington (Malik). The depth here is uncertain. It seems like Dee ESkridge could make it, and you’d have to think Nick Westbrook-Ikhine should be safe, but is it possible WR Erik Ezukanma gets the nod over Ikhine who hasn’t really shown a lot since he’s been here? I know 3rd string Qb Quinn Ewers loves him some Theo Wease, but he’s a longshot. There’s also Tahj Washington, so there will be at least a couple of surprises. Not sure if we carry 5 or 6 Wr’s and again, carrying that 3rd QB hurts here.
Special teams will be the same K and P as last season, the decision has been made to keep P Jake bailey over Ryan Stonehouse, so that’s that. Jason Sanders had a great season and happy to have him back. WR Malik Washington will serve as the primary KR/PR, likely backed up by WR Dee Eskridge, if he makes the cut. Tyreek Hill will be used in certain situations as well.
We’ll see how some of these battles shake out tomorrow against the Jags at Hard Rock tomorrow. Injuries of course will make some decisions for Grier and MM, they always do unfortunately. I look forward at a minimum to hearing the home broadcast so we can actually hear about OUR team and not about the Bears or the Lions, Oh my!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

@WingfieldNFL
Darren Waller will continue his progression of getting more of an uptick in work.
———
Time to trade for Michael Mayer.
LMAO, game 1 is only in 13 days.
YUP! And we’re still waiting on Waller, who should be very good to go after a year of retirement and prep!
Waller should be inactive week 1, unless he or MM gets a miracle stick out the arsenal
not sure which one is the problem
We went from having a solid RB room to WTF in a short amount of time.
@schadjoe
The season hasn’t started yet but we already know the Dolphins won’t have these players for Week 1 Jaylen Wright Jason Sanders Kader Kohou (IR) Alexander Mattison (IR) Artie Burns (IR) Germain Ifedi (IR) *And probably, it seems Liam Eichenberg Ashtyn Davis
Anyone on that list more than a JAG?
you can’t cry about JAG injuries, they’re easily next man up
losing Ramsey 2 yrs ago before the season started was bad
Jason Sanders is JAG??
has he ever had good back to back yrs?
Kohou is JAG??
yes, he’s avg outside, where he was playing
Average outside and above average inside. Anyway, average would be middle of the league which is above JAG IMO.
Waller has some YAC, he’s not close to Jonnu and no where near as bad as Gesicki
We should have kept RB Nate Noel instead of releasing him early. He looked decent this PS with the Colts.
My guess Boone will be signed to the PS and elevated for game one. I actually like the other dude, Shampklin, over Boone. He looked more lively and quicker.
unless there’s another cut better, but I like your idea better, because it doesn’t cost us a roster spot
There probably will be a better option. We’ll see. Either way they will get signed to the PS and elevated for game 1.
@flasportsbuzz
Concern about Sanders grew in the building in past 24 hours, leading to testing today… Per Schefter, it’s a hip injury and he’s out 4 or 5 weeks.
@AdamSchefter
Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders is expected to be sidelined 4-5 weeks with a hip injury, per source. Miami will need a new kicker for the start of the season.
This team does not know how to evaluate an injury. WTF
They’ve been flat out wrong on stated initial assessment 3 times this preseason.
I’m never listening to anything our HC has to say about injuries ever again.
Where’s ROCK???
Find us a kicker man!
24 cuts to go
there was some talk here about pancake blocks not counting against an LB, I think pancakes on LB or DB is more impressive for Johnah, because it shows his feet are very good for OL as he has to line them up first
we know he has the power to pancake DL
Jonah grew up against the Jags, had a good game
not worried about getting a kicker for a few weeks
??? Game 1 is in 13 days. Are you going with Bailey?
seriously, there’s at least 5 kickers every year cut, that are good kickers
punter is no different, if Stonehouse had to come in a punt for a month would anyone lose any sleep over it?

Waller has some YAC, he’s not close to Jonnu and no where near as bad as Gesicki
———–
I will give you that. He will get YAC if he has space. He just does not break tackles or fight for the extra yards.
he fights for yards, he’s just not a dawg like Jonnu
watching other teams play PS there was a line drive kickoff, that was botched, Bills Bears game
that’s the best strategy I’ve seen for kickoffs (bills kicker)
So lets see… we need a new Kicker for the first month, another RB (maybe 2), likely 2 backup O-Linemen who don’t suck (BECAUSE WE KNOW WE’RE GOING TO LOSE 2 OR MORE STARTERS ON THE O-LINE THIS SEASON!), a backup NB who doesn’t suck (NOT TO MENTION, OUR STARTING CBs LEAVE MUCH TO BE DESIRED!), likely another QB after Tua goes on IR at some point this season, and we’re left to hope that Minkah can return to his prior Pro-Bowl form.
Anything else(?)…

CB Mello Dotson released by the Panthers
BBM’s mock draft guy:
OL Luke Kandra released by the Panthers.
Panthers also released their veteran kicker Matthew Wright. I know nothing about him though.
RIP squib kick
replaced by the long squid kick🤪
Rucci should be added to the PS, no need to carry him on the 53 now
Crabbs thinks we keep 8 OL, I agree, no reason to use a roster spot on a dud you can put on the PS, who’d be inactive week 1 anyways
Waller is a dog – with fleas.
do the fleas bite?
it may be nerve racking to start Marshal and ⛈️🦆
but we need to take a chance on young guys
the reward of finding a capable 5th an UDFA is huge
worth the risk
take whatever meds you need to keep calm and lets see how it unfolds
Agree 100%
Captain Morgan in an oversized mug is a great med.
God I can’t wait for this season to start.
be careful what you wish for 😜
Free agent wide receiver Amari Cooper is returning to the Raiders organization on a one-year contract, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
CINCINNATI — Trey Hendrickson‘s contract situation is resolved.
The star pass rusher will get a $14 million raise from the Cincinnati Bengals for this season, boosting his 2025 salary to $30 million dollars, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
Hendrickson is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Omar says, the game they play with older vets is release them, let them test the water, then possibly bring them back after week 1 (so they don’t have to guarantee their contract) or put them on PS
Hilton and Brown
the last time the national media was down on us this much was 2019, we have more stars then we did then by far, so I don’t think we’ll see a repeat, unless they start trading guys like Tyreek
last year we came out flat, only to win on a late long FG by Sanders, hope week 1 is easier this year
maybe I downplayed the Sanders injury too much

Unless things changed, it’s after week 2 where contracts become non-guaranteed. Omar may be onto something there…
In the NFL, contracts for Vested Veterans (players with four or more years of experience) become fully guaranteed for the entire season’s salary when they are on the roster for Week 1.
Miami Dolphins sign CB Rasul Douglas to a 1YR/$3M deal
Ian Rapoport
@RapSheet

Sources: #Bills free agent CB Rasul Douglas is signing a 1-year deal with the #Dolphins for $3M, as they fill a void in the secondary.
Wow, hope he still has something left. Douglas must have come down on his price tag.
Another spot taken from a young buck
Dolphins are waiving linebacker Quinton Bell.
#Bills are releasing veteran corner Dane Jackson, per source.
Browns trading QB Kenny Pickett to the Raiders for a 5th round pick.
Bills are waiving QB Shane Buechele, who completed 25-of-30 passes for 278 yards, a TD, and added 20 rushing yards Saturday night.
—————–
Always liked him. He’s been with the Bills a few years. Steal him for the PS.
Bell was a surprise cut, I guess Judon pushed him out
That and him and Goode are about the same but Goode is better on ST. I still don’t think it opens the door for one of the young Edge players unless Goode gets cut later.
that Douglas signing is a good signing
hope he’s just depth though – I want the you by guys to get snaps
The Dolphins are waiving WRs Theo Wease Jr. and Erik Ezukanma
Miami’s wide receivers room really separated itself over the course of the preseason but former 4th round pick Ezukanma was on the bubble because of his homegrown status
More line changes in Houston: Texans are releasing veteran offensive lineman Trent Brown.
Dolphins are waiving linebacker Derrick McLendon.
The Bills are releasing veteran OL Dan Feeney, per source.
Jets are releasing OT Carter Warren.
Dolphins are cutting S Patrick McMorris and DT Matt Dickerson.
Looks like it is Biggers over Dickerson. I hope we get him on the PS.
18 more cuts to go
Cut list so far:
RB Aaron Shampklin, RB Mike Boone, CB Mike Hilton, OL Jackson Carmen, OL Jalen McKenzie, OL Addison West, DL Ben Stille, TE Pharoah Brown, WR AJ Henning, CB Ethan Robinson, OL Mason Brooks, TE Chris Myarick, CB Cameron Dantzler, LB Quinton Bell, LB Derrick McLendon, WR Theo Wease, WR Erik Ezukanma, S Patrick McMorris, DT Matt Dickerson
Tyreek Hill is now officially divorced after his 15-month marriage to Keeta Vaccaro, per the Daily Mail, and the divorce settlement has some big numbers that Tyreek will have to pay out.
“He’s paying his estranged wife between $20,000 and $50,000 per month in ‘spending money’ on top of a one-off check for $500,000, according to court filings obtained exclusively by Daily Mail
She’s getting a further $457,517 towards her legal fees, $100,000 to spend on a new car and exclusive use of their former marital home, a $5.5million waterfront condo in Miami with Hill picking up the tab for the mortgage, insurance, utilities and internet.”
Tyreek Hill:
I am not excited about the Douglas signing but he is an upgrade over Sheffield.
Falcon’s cut CB Cobee Bryant. He a good prospect for the slot.
Broncos cut RB Audric Estime. Go get him!!
Wow, we are good at ILB but the Jags cut LB Chad Muma.
Pats cut TE CJ Dippre. Go get him for the PS.
3 more cut:
WR Andrew Armstrong, LB Grayson Murphy, S John Saunders Jr
The addition of Douglas doesn’t look good for Cam Smith.
Looks like QB, RB, TE and WR may be set. WR room is down to 6 with Hill, Waddle, NWI, both Washington’s and Eskridge.
Most of the remaining cuts will be OL and defense.
I am a little surprised they haven’t done any IR’s with designation to return to free up those roster spots, namely Sanders and Eich.
CB BJ Adams cut. No surprise.
Jags cut OT Javon Foster
@JFowlerESPN
An update on Asante Samuel: He’s scheduled to undergo a CT scan in October to ensure successful spinal fusion. At that point, he will look to sign with a team for the second half of the year. Several teams have kept in touch.
too bad about McMorris
I was rooting for him
those injuries in your rookie year when your a day 3 pick are killers
Storm Duck had the job at CB. I don’t think Douglas poses any threat
let’s go ⛈️🦆
🐖💨 for ⛈️🦆
barely know any of these names, but I’m kinda surprised to hear McClendon was cut. He looked like he had a good PS. Tough group to get a roster spot with all those guys, I guess.
I agree. He should be practice squad for sure.
Possibly PS material.
C Andrew Meyer (not cut) will be placed on IR with a designation to return to the team this season
LB Eugene Asante reached an injury settlement with the Dolphins, and he has been let go
That means Brunskill is likely to make it as backup center.
Asante was just a concussion, right? Can’t remember, if so, he could be on the PS.
That’s what I thought on the concussion, but he was also grabbing at his shoulder a little when talking with the trainer on the field.
The Seahawks are waiving rookie RB Damien Martinez.
Several RB’s already cut who we should really try to get on the PS.
go get him
I agree. I liked Martinez his last 2 years in college.
Titans are waiving wide receiver Xavier Restrepo.
I liked Restrepo coming out, but I like our 2 Washingtons better…
Thanks BBM! I’m all caught up
driving back from Sarasota with my new fishing kayak
Cool!! I had thought about getting one. There are some spots I would love fish around NAS Pensacola but you are not allowed to get that close with a regular boat but can with a kayak.
the Commanders are trying to trade Noah I who has called own their depth chart
they probably end up waiving him
Not sure what that first sentence meant. lol
😂
Fallen down their depth chart*
Rasul Douglas career stats with the Buffalo Bills:
2 seasons
24 games played (23 starts)
87 total tackles
6 TFLs
1.0 sack
1 forced fumble
13 passes defended
4 interceptions
1 pick-six
@AdamSchefter
49ers are releasing running back Jeff Wilson.
🍻
@flasportsbuzz
Dolphins have conveyed interest in signing kicker Riley Patterson to fill in for Jason Sanders, per source. They were pleased with his workout… Greg Joseph and Zane Gonzalez and Pineiro also worked out for Miami today, along with Patterson, sources said.
@flasportsbuzz
Dolphins cut OL Josh Priebe, per source
@flasportsbuzz
Dolphins cut OL Ryan Hayes, per source
Jeff Wilson was released by the 49ers
BEER!
*clink
🍻
Gracias, mi amigo!
The way I see it, we’ll be bringing Jeff Wilson back because he knows this Offense. But I think I’d rather sign Damien Martinez, but he doesn’t know this Offense (which is why Jaylen Wright saw so little playing time last season).
Really you can do both and have Martinez on the PS
Wilson pots early dividends while Wright is out
To me, signing him is a no brainer
Then let us do BOTH… I’m with it.
Wright was a rookie in a crowded backfield last year.
I don’t disagree, but it came straight from Coach McD’s mouth that he didn’t get more playing time because he was still learning the Offense.
Makes sense.
With the addition of Douglas, the Dolphins have 11 more cuts or moves to IR.
I saw part of a 49er’s PS game. Wilson looked like he had nothing in the tank.
I guess he did all right their last PS game though.
@DavidFurones_
Dolphins CB Cam Smith, a 2023 second-round pick, not seen with the team at Tuesday practice on cut-down day. Neither was OLB Mohamed Kamara, a 2024 fifth-round pick.
@flasportsbuzz
Dolphins cut Alex Huntley, the rookie DL, per source
no surprise there
Didn’t I see something about Achane and Wright being good to go opening day?
Wright was said to be week to week and not looking good for at least game 1.
Wright is going to miss several weeks and might require surgery.
That’s right
I’m glad they kept Biggers. Take a chance on a young guy and see what you can bring out of him. Dickerson is a known quantity and it’s just meh.
Tim,
@DrJesseMorse
Injury updates from
@InjuryExpertz
De’Von Achane – calf, mild reinjury risk W1
Jaylen Wright – leg, out W1, W2-3? Surgery?
I’ve also heard that if we bring Achane back too quickly, that calf could easily turn into an Achilles injury.
I definitely see bringing Jeff Wilson back (he knows our Offense) and I’d also sign Damien Martinez… even if it’s just to the PS.
IMO, we’re DEFINITELY going to sign a RB or two before the season begins.
Okay thanks for the intel.
Anytime! 🙂
Amari Cooper back to the Raiders.
Wouldn’t it be cool if Ollie literally took the ball and ran with it making Achane a change of pace and receiver and we’ll figure out the depth.
He is the closest thing we have had to a bell cow in a long time.
Marcel Louis-Jacques
Just got back inside from Dolphins practice. Some notable names not there include:
Cam Smith
Channing Tindall
Mohamed Kamara
Matt Dickerson
Braeden Daniels
Ryan Hayes
Ryan Hayes was already cut, per Barry.
So was Matt Dickerson.
Yeah, was just posting his tweet
You’re good! I’m not shooting you as the messenger! 🙂
Marcel just isn’t up to date on the cuts.
@OmarKelly
We saw Dolphins TE Darren Waller at practice, but he wasn’t participating. It’s now obvious that he’s nursing some kind of injury.
Can’t wait for Mike E to read this one!
What a waste of a roster spot and draft capital.
YUP!!!
Like I said, worst TE room in the NFL.
@flasportsbuzz
Dolphins released CB Cornell Armstrong, per a source.
Beer
Cheers, my guy!
There goes our backup slot CB. Dolphins cut CB Cornell Armstrong.
I don’t know why he was ahead of some others there. He was terrible.
We’re shooting more holes in our roster. Not that Armstrong was good or anything, but now backup nickel MUST be addressed!
I think we keep an extra safety who can cover slot.
Do we really know who is going to play where yet? We know there will be next man up.
Safety Ashtyn Davis came out for practice for the first time since he sustained a foot/ankle injury early in camp.
Among the other, TE Hayden Rucci was not spotted at practice today.
Not good news. *sigh*
Looks like we’ll be scouring the waiver wire for TEs.
Just trade for Michael Mayer and call it a day, IMO.
Channing Tindall was not at practice but he was injured the last PS game so there might be more than 1 reason for not being there.
He says RBs are usually a slower burn when it comes to grasping the playbook because their whole life they’ve been making guys miss easily.
But when you slow it down, you start to see the feet of the backs and line working in unison. With Ollie, he says they saw that footwork from him Saturday vs. Jacksonville.
Ollie impressed me. I wasn’t expecting him to be as impressive as he was. For some reason I thought he didn’t have the feet and was just a big back to take a look at. He moves pretty good then lowers his shoulders and drives for every bit of extra yardage.
@flasportsbuzz
Dolphins waived Mo Kamara, per source
———
SVUCKS!
@flasportsbuzz
So Dolphins end up releasing McLendon, Grayson Murphy, Kamara and Quinton Bell… At OLB, only Cam Wake makes 53 behind the powerful quartet of Phillips, Chubb, Chop and Judon.
Do they mean Cameron Goode not Cam Wake?
Darren Waller has been diagnosed with IDGAF syndrome. With such a disease, he remains OUT indefinitely
Why not collect a paycheck from our clueless FO?
So Waller hasn’t practiced a single day and he is already injured?! Big effing surprise.
He’s only been on the team 7 weeks, give it time. SMH
Another 10-12 weeks and he should be nearly in football shape and up to speed.
Barring no setbacks

YES, Barry corrected it to Cam Goode.
When they signed Judon, I had figured this would be the 5 OLB they keep.
10 more cuts to come
@Schultz_Report
Sources: The #Ravens are releasing CB Jalyn Armour-Davis. The former Alabama star should find a new home soon.
At 6’1” with 4.3 speed, Jalyn Armour-Davis has prototypical NFL traits. The #Dolphins make a lot of sense. DC Anthony Weaver knows him from Baltimore. But there will be other suitors too.
Yeah… no thanks…
