This team was just an utter embarrassment today. We all know “Any Given Sunday”, but this team just looked thoroughly unprepared, outmatched, outclassed, outplayed, outcoached, there wasn’t one facet of the game where you can say “Well, at least we did that”. You have to keep everything in perspective because it’s just one game, but some of us kinda saw this coming, felt it, because despite the hype machine feeding us the “new culture”, the “We’re not soft anymore”, there are quite a few of us here who just didn’t buy that crap. Now to be fair, I did expect us to show well Week 1 because we have as long as QB Tua Tagovailoa has been the QB. Week 1 has never been his problem, he flourished and played very well the other 4 years, perhaps with the exception of last year when Jason Sanders and Jevon Holland were the heroes in a 20-17 victory last season, but in 2023, Tua was great in a 36-34 duel with the Chargers, and 2022, a 20-7 victory over the New England Patriots, not a great game by Tua, but a win nonetheless once again against the New England Patriots. The Dolphins don’t struggle early, they just usually show a complete lack of intestinal fortitude and fold down the stretch run at the end of the season, so we’re in new territory.
So where do we go from here? This was supposed to be the easy part of the schedule where we were supposed to be 4-1 with potentially the only blemish against the Buffalo Bills. We go home and face off against the New England Patriots who had a tough loss of their own this week at the hands of the unheralded Las Vegas Raiders, 20-13. Both teams will have a chip on their shoulder and I guess we’ll have to see who knocks off the others chip first. The Patriots couldn’t run the ball, but those of you who routinely poke fun about the NE QB Drake Maye, he was far from the problem. The Patriots ran 18 times for 60. Maye was 30-46 for 287 yards 1 TD, 1 INT.
Let’s talk about our Dolphins, shall we? We pretty much get that this team goes as Tua does and Tua took us to the mat early and made sure we stayed pinned down there. Tua managed only 14-23 for a paltry 114 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT’s and 1 FUMBLE lost, 3 turnovers in all. Yeah, we made fun of the Colts defense because they recently signed Ole Methuselah Xavien Howard to start at CB. Somehow, Methuselah outlasted our young guys as Storm Duck left the game early and wasn’t seen again. We had 12 rushing attempts all day, and had possession of the football all of 21:17. We got 12 first downs compared to the juggernaut Indianapolis Colts with Danny Dimes at the helm.
Well, how about that vaunted front 7 of the Miami Dolphins. Yeah, even I thought they could be good.We managed 1 sack, but they never really seemed to be in the game, and with certainty, had no impact on the game. The Colts did as they pleased, Danny Dimes threw for 272 yards and 1 TD, no INT’s. Hey, Colts rookie TE Tyler Warren looked great against us, we still can’t cover a TE and I’m guessing we may never succeed in that regard. Warren had 7 receptions for 76 yards, breaking tackles with nifty moves or just powering through would be tacklers. Never mind that, we have Darren Waller, so don’t fret!
So now the Tyreek “Trade Clock” begins, and that fucker will continue to tick until this team shows any semblance of being a prepared, winning team. They didn’t give us one inkling towards that today, and McDaniel, his playcalling, ability to adjust to in game situations was so way below par, but maybe some home cooking is what this team needs. Markey, Tim, I’m not calling you out here, but I’m guessing after today you both have to have your doubts about what we actually have for a team here, with Mike McDaniel as the Head Coach and Chris Grier the GM hand picking the talent you’ve seen him assemble, or perhaps the lack thereof?
The good thing is the season has just begun, and a win next week, even an ugly win gets us even and then you move on from there. I think even Markey and Tim would admit we can’t afford to see a similar effort next week as we witnessed today. The paper bag fans will be out in droves, and Hard Rock Stadium which barely gives us an edge as far as Dolphins fans attendance vs Opponents Attendance will hit rock bottom as fans will be selling their seats and find other things to do in the beautiful Florida climate.
The Buffalo Bills face off against the Baltimore Ravens this evening at 8:20 at new Highmark Stadium, the new home of the AFC EAST perennial Champs. It’s not going to be easy, it never is against a well prepared team with a great Head Coach with a .623 winning % in John Harbaugh. It just so happens that Bills Head Coach has a .656 winning %, which is better than Harbaugh’s. Plus, the Bills are home, christening their new stadium on Sunday Night Football, but, if somehow the Ravens do beat the Bills, all of the AFC East will be even up at 0-1. Will that make me feel better? Not even a little bit. I doubt very highly that the Bills won’t give the Ravens a dogfight even if they somehow lose out in the end, but our team was a shitshow and even though you all know I don’t think very much of our HC, GM or roster, I was appalled by just how bad we looked today. This just will not do, and if it continues, HEADS MUST ROLL!!!!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Nice to hear X tell everyone how easy it is to stop Miami. He wasnt even here and used old tendencies and it still worked.
Laughing stock. League embarrassment.
It’s really easy to stop a timing-based offense especially when they are behind and flustered. Tua talks tough but he’s really bad about locking into one option early and he loves to throw to throw to the middle when flustered. All the pre-snap motions are to help decide where to throw quickly but the guy will throw it to his preplanned route no matter what. Not all the time, but when he’s flustered or pushing it.
Good teams just have to throw the timing off and eventually Tua will help them win. That’s not all on Tua because McD is supposed to counter defensive adjustments but he’s completely unable to do that or learn from previous errors. This leaves an offense that is very similar to last year’s garbage…while using a loudmouth who is unable to study his professional duties, a glass man, a couple below average TEs, and a couple undersized RBs.
X said it’s easy to put him in panic mode. Amd just make him throw outside the numbers. Easy peasy 1 -2 combo.
The gig is up. Our coach has nothing to counter it. Our GM isn’t as worried as we are apparently.

Interesting fact: Since September 8, 2023, Tua Tagovailoa has played in 29 games, and during that time, he leads all quarterbacks in the NFL in turnovers with 31 (23 INTs and 8 fumbles lost). In rewatching the Week 1 matchup with the Colts, the quarterback was worse than I thought. We all know the 3 turnovers, but he was inaccurate and missed open receivers consistently. You cannot fault those fans that have concerns, I’m sure that the Miami front office has concerns. That #1 ranked offense in 2023 seems like a lifetime ago.
To top of off, Tua is in denial. Lol.
Our offense can’t work without the running game and we’ve been struggling with it since last year. 2023 we ran really well.
Our offense, yes. Bills got 68 yards on 15 carries. Josh Allen 33-46, 394 yards and 2 TD’s. Yes, our offense sucks, but the Bills keep humming because their QB can carry the day, and the team.
Tua isn’t Josh Allen and we all know that. He’s the best QB in the league in my book. The Bills offense is very different because of him.

M, I don’t think safety was/is an issue. The problem was the off coverage by the CB’s allowing Jones to get the ball off quick. Seems like his #1 target was always open.
We also didn’t pressure Jones all that often. I was disappointed in our pass rush.
Taking the underneath stuff is the basic way to attack an umbrella type defense. Weaver should have expected that out of the gate and had an answer ready for it. I didn’t see the game, but it sounds like folks are suggesting he didn’t.

———–
It was said Jones was able to get the ball out in an average of 2.37 seconds. In that little time, most times, the pass rush isn’t going to get there.
I saw we blitzed a DB a couple times and even when coming in unblocked, Jones was able to get rid of the ball before getting hit.
It was the soft coverage. Jones wasn’t going down field much at all. A lot of quick hitters taking advantage of the coverage.
Both of our coordinators were severely outcoached.
Yeah but they really weren’t even close. The coverage was an issue though.
Tim – While you realize Tua isn’t Allen, I’m on twitter a good amount of the time and there are lots of Dolphins that profess that Tua is a top 5 QB
Top 5 in turnovers
That’s their opinion but I don’t think he is at this time. He was couple of years ago.

The #Dolphins are signing guard Cole Strange off Cleveland’s practice squad, per source.
Probably because of Daniels, it’s already started. 😔
That means he has to be on the 53 initially. So who’s going to IR? OG Daniels, OT Jackson or CB Duck?
I think both James Daniels and Austin Jackson are going to be out this weekend. That’s why they went and got some Strange. lol
Brunskill will get the start at RG and Kion Smith the start at RT. Strange will be a backup OG/C for the game.
We had our starting O-line for 2 plays???
If Daniels has a torn pec, he could be out for most of the season. Hopefully it’s just a mild strain
Did I pick the wrong week to stop sniffing glue….again?!
There’s never a good week to stop sniffing glue!!
There’s never a good week to stop sniffing glue!!

Chris Webby would agree
And it begins, my guy John Mateer has made his official debut on the Tankathon mock draft at #53. He will most likely keep climbing…
I just noticed that they have a favorite of mine named AJ Harris going to us at pick #35. I know it doesn’t matter, but still fun to look.
Prior to start of the college season, he was going to be my 4th round steal. Not so much now.
Not sure how much he keeps climbing as it will start to clog up towards the top with what could be a big QB class depending on how many juniors enter the draft. Also, NIL money talks these days and will keep some guys in college another year.
Rich, that new Tankathon 3 round mock would be perfect if you could plug in Mateer at #66 instead of Sam Leavitt.
This would be a superior draft for us:
#4 Spencer Fano OT Utah 6’6″ 302 lbs
#35 AJ Harris CB Penn State 6’1 184
#66 John Mateer QB Oklahoma 6’1 224
#77 Jack Endries TE Texas 6’4 240
I am not sold on Leavitt anyway. He’s likely to stay in college another year. He’s started this year off so-so.
Right now that is a near perfect mock draft. Time will tell, but it won’t surprise me if Mateer goes in round 1.
Miami Dolphins
Roster Moves | We have signed OL Cole Strange to the active roster off Cleveland’s practice squad and placed OL James Daniels on the injured reserve list.
@flasportsbuzz
James Daniels will be 3rd of 8 maximum Dolphins who likely will be brought off IR. He’s out minimum 4 weeks with pectoral… Sanders, Meyer already designated to return
Here we go again….

Sorry to get off of football for a moment, but the Iryna Zarutska story (she’s the legit 23 year-old Ukrainian refugee who was killed by a thug on a Charlotte, NC, train) is breaking my heart.
The full surveillance video of her killing was released today, and stupid, curious me decided to watch it. DON’T DO IT. I’m sick to my stomach and my heart is shattered.
SO much sadness, SO much suffering, SO much hate, and SO much pain. 😪
RIP, baby girl Iryna. 😥
It’s awful.
I’ve still got tears in my eyes, man.
Crime shouldn’t be about politics and race. But it is. We’re in a very strange time.
Indeed. It’s just so sad.
Anyway… *AHEM* … in order for our Defense to work properly (being opposing Offenses must get rid of the ball so quickly to avoid our ferocious pass-rush), we need larger or tougher CBs who can JAM at the LOS. I spoke about this about a month ago, in reference to our own Offense.
It’s the same thing as OUR Offense, trying to get the ball out of Tua’s hands before he gets killed behind what has been an atrocious pass-blocking O-Line for the overwhelming majority of his tenure here.
I was hoping we could have signed Jabrill Peppers, being he’s a chess-piece who can line up ANYWHERE. He’s a LB/S/CB hybrid who can JAM at the LOS. But obviously, that ship has sailed today.
Heard that Anthony Weaver has been working with Jack Jones specifically, to make him more physical at the LOS. That’s a good start, but when playing so far off the LOS (we’ve seen this in years past with former DCs), it’s difficult to protect against a quick-hitting passing attack.
I’m not the biggest fan of zone-heavy Defenses for this very reason.

So in reference to our Offense, this is absolutely the truth. Until we can prove we can win on the ground, Tua will be facing two-high Safeties… which absolutely destroys the big-game capabilities of ‘Reek and Da’ Penguin.

Exactly correct. The injury bug has come back to play, and that bug really hates our O-Linemen for whatever reason. Daniels going on IR (hopefully it’s only the 4-week IR) is going to make it much more difficult to run the ball.
And our next 3 opponents are all in-division. Figures…
Just me and my $.02…
If Mike McDaniel gets fired, our new HC for 2026 will want to hitch his wagon to the best QB available in the ’26 Draft… that likely (VERY likely) means we’ll be selecting a QB in the 1st round.
I don’t believe we’ll be taking Jake Long over Matt Ryan as we did in the ’08 Draft.
Maybe the QB we draft will sit behind Tua next season (if Tua even survives this season), but it’s only a matter of time before Tua gets concussed once again… and that will likely lead to his retirement. Regardless, Tua won’t be with us in ’27 (contract ‘out’ year).

They played an awful game week one Duh! 😂
BBM has been on Mateer for many months now!
He had a good game against Michigan last week. Hoping he continues his success this season. He’s a junior: will he seek NIL $$$ before turning pro? And yes, the same can now be said about any and every college football player today.
BBM has an outstanding eye for talent!
I heard Daboll told the Giants organization that he wants to start Jaxson Dart at QB now
may as well
If we go OT with our first pick next year, that will be a telling sign of the ineptitude and incompetence of this organization
If either Chris Grier and/or Mike McDaniel are still here next season, THAT will be a telling sign of the ineptitude and incompetence of this organization
And you won’t be able to have that fun because you never know what you’re going to get. It sucks!
100% agreed, Brian.
Tim – that’s the thing. I’ll take my chances. I know what we got and it’s not it. Keep trying until you find the right guy. I won’t be surprised if we go with an established HC this time though. No reason to go forward with any of the guys we have running this team, they suck!
it’s too early for me to think about the draft
but it is notable that next year looks like a great year for QBs
I don’t think we are going to be as bad a we were Sunday all season
but if we are or even just a little better – they are going to wipe the slate clean. New GM, New Coach, New QB
which is ideal in a build up
I know Grier needs to go, MM needs to go and Tua needs to go. It will be refreshing just knowing that shit is over. Sure, it will take time to get competitive but if we trade Hill and maybe Chubb and get some draft picks, it could help get us off to a strong start
Mike,
I hate to cheer against us, but I really want McD gone ASAP. I’m all for the 4th game being his last. What’s telling is that this FO and ownership doesn’t just miss on talent, they couldn’t hit the broad side of a cruise ship. After Jimmy, Gase was the only guy any other team would take a shot on and only the terrible Jets did that. No one has considered our coaches to be worth the second shot outside of Saban who was a proven winner and couldn’t wait to get out of here.
Look at this tree!
Wannstedt, Saban, Cameron, Sparano, Philbin, Gase, Flores, McDaniel. Put them at a table and call it The Room of Incompetence. One great coach we couldn’t keep and 7 terrible ones.
You don’t have to cheer New Age, it will happen organically. lol
Yes it will. Several articles talked about Tua missing easy completions he was so flustered by Indy. The Pats will bring it this week. This hodgepodge OL and CB room can’t compete honestly.
Grier has the record for longest tenure of a GM without a playoff win. Says something but is Ross smart enough to understand what?
Did you see my post about how Tua has the most turnovers in the NFL for a QB since September of 2023? Let that sink in. Think of all the QB’s in the NFL. Somehow Tua stans overlook this
Weaver should be the HC after the bye, if not sooner, we’ll know by EOS, if he can run a team
he gets no free pass though with the shit for a D he trotted out last week
What will be the commentary if we win this week 40-10?

FOR the first game of the season to PROVE to the NFL that you are NOT a soft team with no accountability….words v actions…lol
Tim – Considering we averaged 20 points per game last season, and I think our offense could be worse than that now, it would be an aberration if we somehow scored 40 against the Patriots.
I’ve been thinking the only way would be with a few pick 6s, TO’s in red zone, etc…lol
That’s if this defense actually shows up. I was legit expecting our pass rush to look good last week, it’s like they had 30 guys blocking ours, Chubb did get one sack but we were thoroughly neutralized
Jones got rid of it in about 2.5 secs, Weaver didn’t adjust
Jaylen Waddle beginning the 2026 season will be our #1 WR. It’s time for him and Tua to get back on the same page where he had 1000 yard receiving seasons in his first 3. Hill will be gone, probably in a few weeks (if we’re smart!). Get the process going now. Throw the damn ball to Waddle and get him involved.

Chris Grier who has been the Dolphins General Manager for 9 years and 8 months, is the longest tenured NFL general manager without a playoff win in NFL history.
105 years and counting, and he still has his job. What will it take? We’re probably going to find out this season what it would take for Grier to lose his job because odds are this team is going to make it 10 years +
Seems like it’s going to be Daniel Brunskill at RG in place of James Daniels and Larry Borom at RT in place of Austin Jackson
MikeE,
I hate to break it to you, but Waddle is not a #1 WR. Once Hill is gone and if there is nobody else to focus on, teams will focus even more on Waddle, and he simple doesn’t have the ability to dominate any coverage teams throw at him. He’s a complimentary WR. He benefits most when he can work against single coverage and use his speed and quickness to get open. Plus, more attention on him means even more physical hits he’s gonna take, and he can’t hold up to it. His best years were always gonna be his first before the physical pounding he would take has an affect.
Tim,
I’ll say what you say when we go belly up: “It’s just one game and means nothing.” Lol
But, you’re absolutely right. Fans are day to day. My view is that this team was very poorly built, poorly coached and lacks any sort of real leadership. Even if we win big this week, it doesn’t affect that view one iota. One game doesn’t define any team, but fans love to have their opinions validated on both sides. Fans are fans. I’m more interested in what I see in the coaches and players. It hasn’t looked good for a long time.
it means nothing. If we win week two, if we don’t, it’s the middle of the end
You know we’re in great hands when you see this.
Mike McDaniel on TE Darren Waller’s availability for Week 2:
“I expect to not know what to expect until later on this week … We may get to a point where we realize the risk is too great for the rest of the season and we’ll have to do what’s best for the team.”
Fins brain trust is brainless and utterly inept
Risk for the team or the player? Player gets paid whether he plays or not, so no risk for the team. If you signed him and it’s too risky to play, you suck as a GM because you pulled him out of retirement, gave him $2M guaranteed and traded a future 6th RD pick. Shameful!
Waller was a relatively cheap flyer, upside was worth the risk
not sure why we’re still talking about Waller, when MM can’t get his team ready to play the opener
#32 in the power poll I saw, seems right, we were the biggest disgrace of opening week
Randy – Waddle may not be a great #1 WR, but he can be a #1, his first 3 seasons he had 18 TD’s and 1000 yards receiving. Since Hill has been here his role has diminished for sure. Not sure if that’s on him, or Tua, or both.
@PFF
The OTs with zero pressures allowed in Week 1
Way to go, Patrick Paul!
It’s great, now we have our current and future LT. Maybe we have a C and a LG. Now we need a RG and RT. Plug one hole and 2 others pop up!
Ain’t that the truth!
Steve – Reporters are talking about Waller, MM is talking about him, so we talk about him. When they cut him or put him on IR, well talk for a couple of more days and then it will be over. In the meantime, MM is playing games
I see the trade rumors are swirling again/still regarding ‘Reek. And of course, his now ex-wife has accused him of DV… this complicates everything. We’re the Dolphins, and this is our lot in life.
The Stealers* are going all-in this year and they could use a stud WR opposite DK Metcalf. I’d rather trade ‘Reek out of the conference, but there’s a reason I target the Stealers*: we need a blocking TE like Darnell Washington.
So if I’m GM, I’m trading ‘Reek to the Stealers* for a 3rd round pick and Darnell Washington. If that’s too rich for the Stealers*, maybe I’d make it for a 4th round pick and Darnell Washington.
The Stealers* already have Pat Freiermuth, Jonnu Smith, and Conner Hayward at TE, so I think they can stand to lose Darnell Washington in exchange for a HR hitter like ‘Reek. ‘Reek isn’t getting it done here until we can run the ball again.
If we can run the ball again, it will free-up our passing game. So just imagine Darnell Washington lined up next to either Patrick Paul or (once healthy) Austin Jackson. I believe Achane will be able to run rampant once again.
But as I stated, the DV accusation by ‘Reek’s now ex-wife is really going to complicate matters. SMH
I’m NOT SMH about the accusations, which could certainly be true what with ‘Reek’s history. I’m SMH because… WHY US?
We always seem to be in these situations, making news for all the wrong reasons. 🤬
In short, I’m targeting a blocking TE… whether it be Darnell Washington or Michael Mayer of the Raiders. I believe it will pay dividends in our running game, thus opening the passing game (dropping 1 of 2-deep Safeties into the box).
The sooner we do this, the better the chance of success this season. I don’t believe we’ll part with any draft picks in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd rounds to make this happen: we’re stockpiling early picks.
Here’s a 2-for-1 video: Tua and Arch Manning
MikeE,
I certainly think Waddle can be a productive guy. I just think his size brings durability concerns. I think that only increases with age and if he becomes the #1 target of defenses.
I think a true #1 WR is a guy who can get open and produce against any defense more times than not. You can take a guy out of a game if you want to most weeks but at what cost? True #1 WRs make defenses shift that calculus.
I love what Philly has in a big, physical #1 guy and a smaller technician type guy. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith is a perfect combo when clicking. Two different guys. Many ways to beat a defense. We currently really only have speed. That can be beaten into submission.
Randy,
I agree that Da’ Penguin is NOT a true #1 WR. He hasn’t the size, the catch-radius, the hands, the box-out ability, nor the reliability of a true #1 WR.
He certainly has the quickness and speed, but that’s generally reserved for #2 WRs.
‘Reek is on a planet of his own as a true #1 WR, despite not meeting the criteria I cited above. I’ve never seen a WR the size of ‘Reek fight for the ball as hard as he does, high-point passes as he does, have the LEAP that he does, and have the joystick juking ability that he does.
Then why are we paying both as if they were. Stupid, Grier.
Instead of spending all that money on 2 wrs, they could have had a couple more good o-lineman and a couple good CBs. I agree that you need good wrs, but you don’t need 30 million dollar wrs to compete.
Please pray for Charlie Kirk, who was just shot in the neck by a vile leftist.

I guess AI agrees with me. This is what I got when I typed having a top wr is not important to winning super bowls.
Top wide receivers (WRs) are often considered less critical to winning a Super Bowl compared to other positions, such as quarterbacks or defensive players.
Key Points:
While top WRs can enhance a team’s offense, their presence alone does not guarantee Super Bowl success.
The way this team was built by clueless Grier and MM, it was doomed from the start!!!
BTW, it’s not just me, a lot of fans have been saying the same thing. …Especially here.

Steve, that makes this even more sinister.
they learned their lesson with the Trump assassination attempt, want it done right hire a professional
Bookman,
Glenn Beck had me in tears this morning, man. 😥
I think you’ll appreciate his message, in Jesus’ name.
Thanks!
You’re most welcome, my Brother in Christ!
ANYWAY….
I see that Jaylen Wright is back a practice today. He was seen making cuts with a football in his had and a sleeve on his leg. I don’t know if he will play this weekend, but I think Ollie Gordon is a better choice even if he is healthy. Especially with the traffic cones we are going to start at RG & RT this week.
This weekend is one game that I think pretty much everyone was counting on as a win when the schedule came out this season. It’s not a “must win” but it will definitely put us behind the 8 ball if we lose this week. 0-2 in conference and 0-1 in division (before we face the Bills that will make it 0-3 and 0-2)
My gut tells me that I should just stop paying attention this season like I did last year.

Not unexpected. (Well, I’m a little surprised he beat out Russel Wilson…)
Personally, I love when outsiders, read:NFL folks outside of the Miami Dolphins organization criticize Tua and Tua stans say that person has an agenda, that everyone just hates on the Dolphins. These people are so delusional, they can’t take Tua criticism ever, it’s either an agenda or they have a litany of excuses.
Would Bill Belichick LEAVE UNC for Miami Dolphins? | Colin Cowherd NFL Reaction
Take it for whatever it may be worth, from Colin Cowherder…
My hate for Belichick is so deeply ingrained that I would immediately become a non-fan. If you think I’m a “hater” now, wooohooo, you can just imagine. Cowturd is such a dick, I didn’t even click the link. I don’t want him to get $0.00000000001 from my click.
besides, the question was answered. It was Brady all along.
I couldn’t enjoy rooting for the Dolphins with Belichick
Rockphin and Mike E,
I absolutely agree with you two. NO WAY to Belicheat* becoming our HC next season. The game has passed him by, and yes… it was Brady all along, IMO, as well.
And I’m not a fan of Colin Cowturd either.
So it should interest us… WHO would Steve Ross hire as HC and/or GM next season? I’m afraid to even entertain the idea!
24 years ago today we were all united…..
AMEN, my man.

Which Miami Dolphins players land on the Fins Up, Fins Down list for Week One?
by Marek Brave Sep 10, 2025, 7:30 AM CDT
Hello, Dolfans! Welcome to a new column on The Phinsider entitled Fins Up, Fins Down!
This column will be similar to your standard “stock up, stock down” report, but obviously, with a Miami twist. Each week I will highlight one member of the organization who is trending upwards, while also highlighting one member who is trending in the opposite direction. These designations don’t necessarily reflect who was the best or worst player in a given game, but rather, they indicate whose stock is rising or falling based on recent performance.
Sounds simple enough, right?
So, let’s get to it!
Fins Up
Our first ever Fins Up player was someone who, despite the team’s incompetence against the Indianapolis Colts, had a very impressive individual performance. That player was newly minted starting left tackle, Patrick Paul!
Paul — a second-year player out of Houston — took over the starting left tackle position this year from perennial stud, Terron Armstead. Many wondered how Paul, who had some growing to do during his rookie season, would handle starting duties when handed the role.
Well, the young man performed swimmingly (to continue the ocean theme)!
Paul was Pro Football Focus’ highest graded Miami Dolphins player in Week One — earning an impressive 84.9 grade for the game. In fact, Paul’s rating was the 4th best for any tackle in the entire National Football League last week.
Have a day, kid!
Fins Down
The dubious distinction of becoming our first ever Fins Down player of the week was given to Miami’s starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa had, arguably, his worst game as a professional football player last Sunday against the Colts. The 27-year-old finished with a paltry 144 yards passing on 14 completions. He had one touchdown pass to running back De’Von Achane — however, that pass was an ill-advised swing pass on 4th and goal from the 11-yard line that saw Achane power through multiple defenders for the score.
Tagovailoa was also responsible for three turnovers — two interceptions and a lost fumble on the day. What makes matters worse is the fact that Miami’s quarterback was not even under pressure for either of his two interceptions. The first pass was picked off after he sailed a ball intended for wide receiver Tyreek Hill over the middle, and the second was on a terrible throw where he looked down receiver Malik Washington through his entire route before throwing the ball directly into the defender’s chest.
If the Dolphins hope to turn things around this season, they’ll need Tagovailoa to end up on the Fins Up list as early as next week!
I think we’ll struggle if we can’t run the football.
Tua is 2nd in the league with games of 3 or more turnovers since 2020. Trevor Lawrence beat him out by 1.
Omar wasnt out of line questioning him on his turnovers come in bunches , but he was out of line suggesting that was a crazy assumption
Tua was out of line scoffing…he’s clueless because he can’t remember
I may not remember correctly, but didn’t we go 3 and out with our first series? Wasn’t Tua knocked to the ground? Does anyone remember our first 3 O plays? There was an early play when he got hit hard to the ground…pretty sure
I believe his first INT came on the first series
that’s correct
they drove down the field, scored a FG
and then they kicked off to us and on the kickoff we got great field position
then we gained 15 yards and then Tua was intercepted when we were in FG range already
To add to the above
then Indi drove 84 yards and scored a TD
that made it 10-0
then we ran 2 plays before Tua fumbled
and the Colts drive a short field and went up 17-0
that’s basically the game
those 2 turnovers on our first 2 drives change everything
stats don’t matter
that 84 yard drive was bad defense
but it’s a different game in general without those early 2 turnovers by Tua
I know everyone is probably tired of hearing how bad he played
but I’ll link it anyway, he killed this team all on his own
Doesn’t matter if everything else is perfect, when your QB plays that badly, you’re toast
all that said
for oinking decades now – whether we play good or we don’t play good, I’ve always felt that week 1 means very little in the grand scheme of things
and I don’t just mean record wise
I mean teams don’t look like the teams they are in week 1 most of the time
this week 1 was particularly frustrating bc we’ve seen the same mistakes/flaws before and those flaws have defined the 🐬
but the season is meant to be a building black each game
I don’t blame anyone for lacking confidence that this crew can fix it
but I have to say to myself for now – its week 1, same as I would if we won by 40
I hope they prove me wrong. I have zero confidence we have the coach that can turn it around.
On the flip side, I hate the Packers but what a coach they have. Just listening and watching him is such a contrast to MM.
it just doesn’t feel right, we played like it was 40 below
MM has a legit excuse, he’s a suckie HC, there’s no excuse for Weaver
it feels like kidney stones…..lol
have you ever seen the Fins go quick like GB just did, everything is end of play clock
the fact that we snap the ball with under 10 seconds on every play kills me
I get furious when we do it with 1 or 2 seconds left. That’s hard on the OL
Tua was hit pretty hard early on. When? That’s my question and how many times. He’s fucking fragile….lol
its true, he got clocked, and maybe why he sucked rest of the game, concussion #15
I thought I remembered that early on…not sure how early though…he was hit hard and hit the ground hard….
Redskins playing like we did last week
seems when you get your ass kicked you get injuries during the game
Parsons making Daniels look like Tua
wait what? GB DBs are playing offman and jumping routes, because they know the ball is coming out quick
Weaver, you’re an FN moron
Fist Pumpers making 50 yard FGs look like extra points says Al Michaels, well yeah, they changed the kicking balls from rock hard to balls these Pumpers have massaged
I hate when they praise players for pee wee football shit, like Jacob’s being on top of it for calling the TO after getting tackled. they must really think the players are stupid in general, so when someone does something that’s common sense they get praise
This next game will tell a lot about where this team is at. The Pats are a young team being developed. If we look like shit against them it’s going to get really loud.
its loud now, if we look lost again MM needs to be fired right after the game
I said really loud, there is a difference. 😂
If we lose badly this Sunday, these are the dates I’m keeping an eye on. …9/19, 10/31, 11/17
picture smuggled out of fins practice this week – doesn’t bode well for Tua or the run game. Just regime change
