2025 Season – Game 8 – Dolphins @ Falcons

Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel bring their comedy show on the road for a short trip to Atlanta Georgia to face off against the 3-3 Atlanta Falcons. Despite having only 2 more wins than our hapless Dolphins, these teams aren’t close. The Falcons have defense, and they are 8th in the NFL allowing only 20 points per game. The offense, while not scoring as well as our Dolphins offense (If you can believe that!) features one of the most potent running games in the NFL, with the duo of RB’s Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. These 2 RB’s have combined for 727 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving. While the Dolphins have De’Von Achane, very impressive in his own right with 472 yards rushing and 211 yards receiving, there is no #2 RB, either by design, or failure, you choose, by Mike McDaniel. The RB we traded this year’s 3rd RD pick in 2024, Jaylen Wright, has still yet to register a carry in 2025, despite being a healthy scratch for 2 consecutive weeks and then active last week, but alas, no action for a player who we used a 4th RD pick on as well as trading a future 3rd RD pick for.

With that dysfunction out there, is Stephen Ross, or whomever the hell is making football decisions above GM Chris Grier, going to finally end this mans reign of terror. He has a great smile, but if you didn’t know better, he could be a wolf in sheep’s clothing intending to sabotage this team for years to come. There will be no joy for the Miami Dolphins this season. This team is so bad on both sides of the ball, I’m more than sick of hearing any of the blatting from our QB and our Head Coach, those two tied at the hip, and are like an anchor taking our team down to the deep depths of the Atlantic ocean. I would say the most likely scenario is that neither HC Mike McDaniel are relieved of their jobs until the season’s end. Our salary cap is so screwed next year, and there is dead cap money for years to come.

So what of trading some current players to add draft capital for next season and beyond? The Dolphins recently restructured ILB Jordyn Brooks, one of the better players this season for the Dolphins. Of course, that adds more dead cap money, I mean why would Chris Grier care, he knows he shouldn’t be here anyway. Is it possible Brooks is traded? Bradley Chubb? Jaelan Phillips? Minkah Fitzpatrick? Zach Sieler? I love Sieler, but it looks like he’s not going to live up to his end of his increased salary, and that’s mostly because unlike last season where we lucked into having DL Calais Campbell still available, and play at a level unheard of for a defensive lineman aged 38, this season there is no threat opposite Sieler, and as I feared and warned everyone, without a threat on the other side, Sieler will be neutralized, and he has.

Back to the QB position for a moment. As I mentioned in last week’s article, it’s time to let now backup QB Quinn Ewers get the majority or all of the starters reps in practice. Let Tua start the games, but if he’s playing poorly, much like Brian Flores did with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tua, if Tua plays poorly, pull him at some point probably in the 2nd half and let Ewers get some more playing time. I give not one solitary fuck if Tua doesn’t like that because I actually think Ewers, who probably doesn’t know the playbook nearly as well as Tua, might still give this team a jolt. Watching Tua play is like watching stale bread on the counter accumulate additional mold spores, not fun to watch.

How about a look the WR corps, eh? Well, now #1 WR Jaylen Waddle got all of 4 targets last week. We need to get him the ball because not only did we take at him at #6, but we traded the #12 pick in RD 1 in that draft, as well as a 4th RD in 2021, and then a 1st RD pick in the 2022 Draft. That’s a lot of draft capital for a #2 WR. It’s time to get some value out of him, so feed him the damn ball Tua, whether you can see him or not! It’s also on Mike McDaniel to figure out ways to get him the ball, and he has failed at that. The NFL is well aware this the De’Von Achane show, and it’s testament to how good Achane is that he can be successful in spite of that. Back to Waddle for a sec. In 2021, sans Tyreek Hill, Waddle had 104 receptions and 1015 yards and 6 TD’s. In 2022, Waddle with Tyreek Hill now on the Dolphins, had a decrease in receptions, but a huge increase in yards and yards per reception, getting 1356 yards receiving on 75 catches for a big 18.1 YPR. In 2023 our best offensive season in many years, Waddle caught 72 passes for 1014 yards for 14.1 YPR. It’s dropped significantly since, mostly due to Tua being out and being replaced by street vendors, I mean practice squad guys coming in one week and then starting the next. Last year Waddle finished with 58 catches for 744 yards, not even a decent #2 WR stats. This year through 7 games he has 30 catches for 405 yards. At this rate, Waddle will finish with 72 catches for 983 yards. That’s beyond unacceptable!!

As former Biden White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki used to say, “Let’s circle back” to the trade situations. Jaelan Philips is a Free Agent at the end of this season and will be looking for a big contract and we had better not be the team giving him that contract. You have to trade him even for a 7th RD pick. It won’t recoup the 6th RD pick that Grier squandered for retired T Darren Waller who played in parts of 4 games, but what’s the difference, get something for his time here. I’d love to trade Minkah Fitzpatrick, just because. He begged for it last time, this time I’d do it and take whatever I can get, which could be a 6th RD pick or better. Chubb would be the one guy who if I can’t really get anything of value for I’d keep because maybe next year with a new GM and HC and a different vibe here he could help the team. I wouldn’t trade RB jaylen Wright because you couldn’t possible get any vale for him at this point, but I would also mandate to Mumbles McDaniel that he needs to give him “X” amount of carries before the season’s end. Play that man! It’s ridiculous! If some team wants Rasul Dougles or Jack Jones, trade them! They’re not part of the future of this team, and this season, there is no future.

Remember OG Quinn Meinerz from little division III Wisconsin Whitewater. The Dolphins instead decided to trade up for Liam Eichenberg in the 2nd and then take TE Hunter Long in the 3rd before Meinerz went at pick 98.

Quinn Meinerz was 1st Team All Pro last year and hasn’t missed a game since becoming a starter half way through his rookie year.

Can we please draft some NASTY OL like Meinerz.

BBM can be a serious homer at times. I would love it if the Dolphins spent all 3 of their day 3 picks on IU players.

    4th round – CB/NB D’Angelo Ponds

5th round – ILB Aiden Fisher

    7th round – C/OG Pat Coogan, 6’5, 310

Coogan started at LG in 2023 for Notre Dame before moving to and starting at center for ND in 2024 then transferred to IU.

Looks like Mendoza will be a Saint or a Jet. Simpson will be a ? whether he enters the draft or not. Get RT Fano or RT Gennings Dunker, edge, boundary CB and whatever floats your boat with the other 3rd round pick then the 3 IU guys.

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Ponds is small and that is why he may last until the 4th round, 5’9, 170, 4.35 forty. That said, he plays big. Last year vs Ohio State matched up on the 6’3 220 Jeremiah Smith, Ponds held him for 3 rec and 34 yards and had 3 PD’s all against Smith. Actually, Ponds and Smith were HS teammates.

Also, Ponds is rated as one of the best tackling CB’s in college football, grading at 91% in tackling. His grades in every category are all very high, run defense 85%, coverage 94%.

He’s also a very good special teamer blocking 3 punts and returning 2 of them for TD’s.

In 2.5 seasons he has 133 tackles (85 solo), 6 INT’s and 25 PD’s. He would be the perfect slot corner who can also play the boundary.

    Highly recommend muting the music.

At this point, I won’t be doing any more mocks with us taking a QB in the 1st. #1 because we don’t know who is declaring yet and #2 I have a feeling we won’t draft ahead of NO or the Jest. When we get to January, then will have a better idea.

Honestly, I hope Simpson and Dante Moore go back for another season. I don’t want the Jest to get either one. Here’s hoping that NO gets Mendoza if we can’t…

Thursday’s game will determine if I am back on board for the 2025 Miami Dolphins season and abandon the high draft pick idea.

  6. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I have enough evidence already to make that decision. I am hoping they lose every game going forward this year. Grier has proved he is incompetent and should have been fired LAST season.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Same here. If I knew Ross would fire everyone no matter what, Id root for wins, but if it’s going to take a losing record to make it happen, I will pray for losses and enjoy every one of them

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

BBM torn on a day 3 QB. I have liked Haynes King since before last season as a day 3 pick but I really like the size and arm of Sawyer Robertson. Robertson is 6’4, 220 and can run also.

Which ever one is there in the 5th round, I may have to pull the trigger.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

must have been last year.I see monterey baldwin, who was in our camp, catching passes

was going to ask, why were they two?And four, then he went all the way 28 and four

he looks the part maybe the best i’ve seen, even though it was last year

is arm looks good? He can run

But what can he do on third Downs? Fourth quarter.
      Winning time

      what’s his completion percentage

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      that’s a pretty deep ball

  8. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Oh cool. I was hoping for some film on Trader. I haven’t been able to see much. I’d trade MFFF immediately before his value drops and look to draft another young safety to pair along with Trader….IF Trader is showing he can hold down a spot and play well. You can usually get a pretty good Safety if you’re drafting 5-10. I’m not saying that’s how I’d use my first pick, but I’m not against it if there’s value there. Hugh end Safetues can have a big impact on your overall defense.

Happy B-Day, Herd! Make it your day today!

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Steve, for me, it’s the way a QB plays in college. How they look when things break down. Making all the throws with accuracy. Are they a threat with their legs. Can they read a defense.

If you look at the stats, Robertson’s are almost identical to Peyton Manning’s junior and senior years with a few less INT’s.

Again, we’re talking about a guy to draft in the 5th and come in and compete with Ewers.

  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Steve, here’s 2025 on Sawyer Robinson through 6 games.

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rich – That’s why I want to see what Ewers can do. It would be silly to go into next season not knowing what he might be. Don’t you agree?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I hear ya in principle, Mike E. However… and so long as Capri McD is running this Offense, would it be fair to judge Ewers on something that is so precisely designed for Tua?

Don’t get me wrong, I get ya. I’m just showing you what could happen.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Personally, I would like to see Ewers play, but MM offense would probably screw him up.

Well, 49er’s don’t need edge help anymore.

Patriots trade DE Keion White to the 49ers: New England will receive a 2026 sixth-round pick for White and a 2026 seventh-rounder.

  23. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

  24. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Titans trade Roger McCreary to Rams: The Titans will receive a fifth-round pick in exchange for McCreary and a sixth-round selection. Rams coach Sean McVay said McCreary adds important depth to the secondary.

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Trade them Tua. LOL

Seriously, trade them Zack Wilson for something.

    ———-

Vikings need a veteran quarterback: Will Minnesota trade for a quarterback now that Carson Wentz is out for the season?

  26. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’d play Ewers regardless of playing in MM’s system. Take into account that it’s a difficult offense not tailored to him personally but see what he can do, and get him valuable playing time so if he can show a little something, you know he can either be a backup or compete for a starting job

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Personally, I would play him after our bye week. Let Tua take the lumps from Baltimore, Buffalo, and Washington. The bye gives an extra week to modify the offense to Ewers strengths, but I’m sure they won’t…

  27. boulderfinfan's avatar boulderfinfan says:

    happy birthday herd!

  28. boulderfinfan's avatar boulderfinfan says:

if we do finish above 500 I would give MM another chance specially if we’re stuck with Tua. Grier has to go. I dont think MM is a bad coach. Tua is not a good QB. MM never picker Tua. he was stuck with him. I feel like if there are no good coaches to pick from MM is a good option if we win a bunch of games.

  29. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m still trying to figure out why we created $3.25M in cap space for this season by restructuring Jordyn Brooks’ contract last week. We didn’t extend Brooks, we just moved his $$$ around to make more cap space for THIS season.

Many are expecting either Bradley Chubb and/or Jaelan Phillips to be traded before the deadline on Tuesday… but that should be for a draft pick(s), right? That would be the prudent measure, of course.

So why did we necessarily need to create $3.25M in cap space for this season? Trading for another player is all I can come up with. Very, very curious move… and I’m not sure I like it at this point, being we’re 2-6.

M, yes, it makes no real sense. Anyone you sign now with 9 games remaining wasn’t going to affect the top 51 in cap to a point where they needed more cap.

Unless they were going to trade for an OL that had a sizable cap.

    I have no clue.

    ———-

Exactly, man. It makes zero sense to me and I have no clue either.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

everyone counts now against the cap, if someone gets hurt, unless you do an injury settlement, you pay both

      we basically had no cap

None of this is accurate. Ireland and Sparano were his hand picked coaches. He built Sparano a staff. He left 2 years after he could have dipped with all his money

I think I hate Parcells more than Grier. Parcells was lazy as fuck taking over the Dolphins. Hiring Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano. Very lazy, then he disappeared as soon as he could when the whole plan failed

You better check your history O, he walked out the door early on the Dolphins because of a clause that allowed him to leave if Huizenga sold the team. Did you forget that he quit on the Dolphins? He was much better as a HC, as Football Czar, pretty awful!
