2025 Season – Game 8 – Dolphins @ Falcons

Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel bring their comedy show on the road for a short trip to Atlanta Georgia to face off against the 3-3 Atlanta Falcons. Despite having only 2 more wins than our hapless Dolphins, these teams aren’t close. The Falcons have defense, and they are 8th in the NFL allowing only 20 points per game. The offense, while not scoring as well as our Dolphins offense (If you can believe that!) features one of the most potent running games in the NFL, with the duo of RB’s Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. These 2 RB’s have combined for 727 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving. While the Dolphins have De’Von Achane, very impressive in his own right with 472 yards rushing and 211 yards receiving, there is no #2 RB, either by design, or failure, you choose, by Mike McDaniel. The RB we traded this year’s 3rd RD pick in 2024, Jaylen Wright, has still yet to register a carry in 2025, despite being a healthy scratch for 2 consecutive weeks and then active last week, but alas, no action for a player who we used a 4th RD pick on as well as trading a future 3rd RD pick for.

With that dysfunction out there, is Stephen Ross, or whomever the hell is making football decisions above GM Chris Grier, going to finally end this mans reign of terror. He has a great smile, but if you didn’t know better, he could be a wolf in sheep’s clothing intending to sabotage this team for years to come. There will be no joy for the Miami Dolphins this season. This team is so bad on both sides of the ball, I’m more than sick of hearing any of the blatting from our QB and our Head Coach, those two tied at the hip, and are like an anchor taking our team down to the deep depths of the Atlantic ocean. I would say the most likely scenario is that neither HC Mike McDaniel are relieved of their jobs until the season’s end. Our salary cap is so screwed next year, and there is dead cap money for years to come.

So what of trading some current players to add draft capital for next season and beyond? The Dolphins recently restructured ILB Jordyn Brooks, one of the better players this season for the Dolphins. Of course, that adds more dead cap money, I mean why would Chris Grier care, he knows he shouldn’t be here anyway. Is it possible Brooks is traded? Bradley Chubb? Jaelan Phillips? Minkah Fitzpatrick? Zach Sieler? I love Sieler, but it looks like he’s not going to live up to his end of his increased salary, and that’s mostly because unlike last season where we lucked into having DL Calais Campbell still available, and play at a level unheard of for a defensive lineman aged 38, this season there is no threat opposite Sieler, and as I feared and warned everyone, without a threat on the other side, Sieler will be neutralized, and he has.

Back to the QB position for a moment. As I mentioned in last week’s article, it’s time to let now backup QB Quinn Ewers get the majority or all of the starters reps in practice. Let Tua start the games, but if he’s playing poorly, much like Brian Flores did with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tua, if Tua plays poorly, pull him at some point probably in the 2nd half and let Ewers get some more playing time. I give not one solitary fuck if Tua doesn’t like that because I actually think Ewers, who probably doesn’t know the playbook nearly as well as Tua, might still give this team a jolt. Watching Tua play is like watching stale bread on the counter accumulate additional mold spores, not fun to watch.

How about a look the WR corps, eh? Well, now #1 WR Jaylen Waddle got all of 4 targets last week. We need to get him the ball because not only did we take at him at #6, but we traded the #12 pick in RD 1 in that draft, as well as a 4th RD in 2021, and then a 1st RD pick in the 2022 Draft. That’s a lot of draft capital for a #2 WR. It’s time to get some value out of him, so feed him the damn ball Tua, whether you can see him or not! It’s also on Mike McDaniel to figure out ways to get him the ball, and he has failed at that. The NFL is well aware this the De’Von Achane show, and it’s testament to how good Achane is that he can be successful in spite of that. Back to Waddle for a sec. In 2021, sans Tyreek Hill, Waddle had 104 receptions and 1015 yards and 6 TD’s. In 2022, Waddle with Tyreek Hill now on the Dolphins, had a decrease in receptions, but a huge increase in yards and yards per reception, getting 1356 yards receiving on 75 catches for a big 18.1 YPR. In 2023 our best offensive season in many years, Waddle caught 72 passes for 1014 yards for 14.1 YPR. It’s dropped significantly since, mostly due to Tua being out and being replaced by street vendors, I mean practice squad guys coming in one week and then starting the next. Last year Waddle finished with 58 catches for 744 yards, not even a decent #2 WR stats. This year through 7 games he has 30 catches for 405 yards. At this rate, Waddle will finish with 72 catches for 983 yards. That’s beyond unacceptable!!

As former Biden White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki used to say, “Let’s circle back” to the trade situations. Jaelan Philips is a Free Agent at the end of this season and will be looking for a big contract and we had better not be the team giving him that contract. You have to trade him even for a 7th RD pick. It won’t recoup the 6th RD pick that Grier squandered for retired T Darren Waller who played in parts of 4 games, but what’s the difference, get something for his time here. I’d love to trade Minkah Fitzpatrick, just because. He begged for it last time, this time I’d do it and take whatever I can get, which could be a 6th RD pick or better. Chubb would be the one guy who if I can’t really get anything of value for I’d keep because maybe next year with a new GM and HC and a different vibe here he could help the team. I wouldn’t trade RB jaylen Wright because you couldn’t possible get any vale for him at this point, but I would also mandate to Mumbles McDaniel that he needs to give him “X” amount of carries before the season’s end. Play that man! It’s ridiculous! If some team wants Rasul Dougles or Jack Jones, trade them! They’re not part of the future of this team, and this season, there is no future.

    M13,

I’ll pretend I just didn’t read what you posted. Even if MM and CG are here for another decade, that’s still no reason to say ANYTHING positive in support of the yets. 🤬

  49. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    stej win! LOL

  50. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Randy,

QUITE seriously, if we want to attract a stellar HC and GM, nothing is better than having a premium pick in the Draft. I would absolutely LOVE to have R1P1, and trade down a bit (still picking in the early 1st round) for more picks.

  51. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – you’re not wrong. Our cap situation really sucks, and our roster isn’t great either, so at the very least, you want to have a top 5 pick.

  52. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

This is the running attack I have been expecting for the last 2 years! The Defense finally played up to the expected level, and we win the game….shocking.

  53. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Wow! Is this going to be another repeat? Win just enough to continue this? We will see.

Looked like a classic trap game for Atl.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

If this happens, I’m joining Mike E. I’m tired of this crap year in year out. This is a shitty built team and MM is not a good coach, period!!!!

  54. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Is today’s game a reflection that the Dolphins have turned things around

  55. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

I love the look of the Broncos/Cowboys game with the Denver throwbacks.

  56. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the win was my fault 🤨 did laundry

  57. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The truth is the Dolphins actually look really good today. The best they’ve looked all season long and maybe even going back to two years ago now was that a reflection of who they played or is it proof that they have finally turned the corner and we’ll go on the Win streak

  58. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I love that the Jets beat the Bengals lol. Have some mouthy Bengals fans I know. I also always love to see the Cowboys lose and Payton is a great coach. So cheering them on right now.

Let’s see how Jackson and Co will do this next week but it was fun to see a win and complete domination for once.

On a serious note, it really sucks what happened to Mangold.

  59. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Tua is elite posts are back on “X”. LMAO!!! These guys and gals have been so frustrated all season this is their Superbowl. I guess I should let them enjoy it.

  60. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

RIP, Nick Mangold. Very sad 😞

  61. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

BBM just woke up. WTF? Am I still dreaming? lol Reading all the posts, sounds like they played good on all phases.

  62. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Figures, the Falcons game was the one game I was going to try and go to this year.

  63. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Texans won. That lowered one of our 3rd round picks also.

  64. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Ravens won with Tyler Huntley putting up almost the same stats as Tua today. Except more rushing yards for Huntley.

Yeah, it doesn’t matter who the Dolphins backup is. This system is only for Tua.

  65. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Wow, Myles Garrett sacked Drake Maye 5 times today in the Browns loss to the Pats.

    What a waste of talent.

  66. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Can the Dolphins string together wins? Nobody is actually running away with the AFC three more games and we’re at .500 who has bought in?

  67. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Looks like we dropped to #5 in the draft order for now. Teams picking in the top 10 who need a QB picking ahead of us are Jets, Saints and possibly Browns. If we win another 2 games, Mendoza is as good as gone. Especially since Bain is really the only true top 5 pick in this next draft.

Titans, depending on what they do in F/A are almost 100% on taking a WR in the 1st.

We may be looking at taking RT Fano or even Safety Caleb Downs.

  68. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Tankathon’s new mock:

    #5 RT Spencer Fano

    #36 QB John Mateer

    #70 CB Will Lee III

    #76 LB Jaishawn Barham

  69. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Bo Nix continues to suck I see. SMH

Broncos are a mere 4 points away from being undefeated,

  70. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We need to take a QB next year, it doesn’t have to be our 1st pick. I would love to be able to trade back if there’s no one special for us and then maybe take a QB with our 1st or 2nd pick.

  71. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think we should trade our 5th round pick to the Cowboys for QB Joe Milton and a 7th round pick, same deal they did with the Pats to get him.

Focus on RT, Edge and CB with our top 3 picks then BPA.

Tankathon, early on, showed us with a potential 4th round comp pick. They no longer show that or any comp pick. The PFN simulator does though. Tankathon is more accurate.

I believe it was for OG Robert Jones because of the contract he got from the Cowboys but he landed on IR and no longer qualifies to give us a comp pick.

Though Wilkins went on IR, the size of his contract still got us a comp pick.

  72. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

finally, a good all around game for The Dolphins. The defense looked the way it was supposed to look this year. Not saying they should be great, but they shouldn’t have bad as they have been.

I don’t want them to rip off five straight wins here because I want MM AND Grier gone, but it feels good to get a solid win.

  73. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

LSU just fired HC Brian Kelly. We do NOT want him!

  74. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

these guys are killin me on this NBA scandal

I don’t see how a guy making 26m can risk his career for a few hundred grand, they say

how can these people claim to be journalists?

you don’t go find the bookies (mafia) and suggest you can be of benefit to them to make money

they come to you, because you owe them something, likely gambling debts, and they tell YOU how its going to work (what you’re going to do)

  75. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Brian, I hear PSU might have interest in IU’s defensive coordinator, Bryant Haines.

He’s been with Kust Cignetti for 11 seasons now, 6 seasons as his DC. He’s a former LB himself.

I heard PSU had requested an interview with him last year to be their DC but he declined the interview.

It would take a lot to get him from IU as they paid him well also.

He would be a first time HC but he is learning the ropes under a good one.

  76. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Jordan Love really lit up that Ramsey led Steelers secondary.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

its been really bad this year, worse than I can remember

last week against Clev the bad calls/non-calls early in the game set the stage for our undisciplined team to collapse

MM has no control, when we get behind, he can’t seem to reset the focus on just doing your job

last year against Buffalo Tua tried to do too much, and got concussed, and that starts at the top

  77. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I remember reading that about Haines BBM.
my thought is they go after someone with head coach experience, but an up-and-coming coordinator is a possibility. Yes Indiana could pay him well as a defensive coordinator, but I don’t think they could touch head coach money from Penn State.

  78. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

While it was “nice” to see the team finally play well yesterday and to play like I do it on Madden (RUN THE BALL!) All it did was fuck up our draft position and maybe give Ross the false impression that we can win the way this team is built.

I was listening to the commentator praise Savaiinaea yesterday and wanted to smash my TV. On one play he got BLOWN THE FUCK UP and ended the play flat on his back, but the announcer praised him like he was a 180 RB who had picked up a block on a 300lb DT. It was a 240lb LB the blew him up and the play didn’t even go his direction. But there was that asshole singing his praises on the “several big plays” he made.

Jonah had his typical pussy game where he ran up the field and pretended to look for someone to block. He was just as bad yesterday as he has been all year.

  79. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am tempted to open a social media account so I can compile a “Best of Savaiinaea” set to Benny Hill music. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so soul crushingly sad!

  80. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Man, I feel so bad for Cam Skattebo. He was having a good rookie season.

  81. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The Draft Network did their updated mock and 4 QB’s go in the 1st round, none to the Dolphins. They did it with the updated draft order.

    #1 Saints – QB Mendoza

    #2 Jets – QB Moore

    #3 Titans – Edge Bain

    #4 Browns – RT Fano

#5 Dolphins – WR Jordyn Tyson

#11 Rams (from Falcons) – QB Simpson

    #22 Steelers – QB Nussmeier

SMH, I know what they did. They made the pick as if they were Grier. A pick that doesn’t make sense.

I don’t hate the player, just the position pick. I watched some of Tyson. He’s got good size but not a burner, high 4.4’s maybe (DraftBuzz projects a 4.5 forty). He’s got great hands and has the best get off the LOS in college football. What he does to some CB’s aught to be illegal. lol

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Their mock before this one when we were picking #2 was:

      #1 Jets – QB Mendoza

      #2 Dolphins – QB Simpson

If they had us take Simpson #2 on this one, then why not Simpson at #5 on the new one. Is it because Tua threw 4 TD’s instead of 3 INT’s. SMH

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Just the thought of taking a WR in the 1st makes me break out in hives. I HATE taking WRs in the 1st!!!!

I like the opposite of most and I would like to build from the trenches out and from the middle out. What I mean is I like NTs/DTs, MLBs, Safeties, OGs and centers more than most. I think the best way to frustrate QBs is bringing pressure from up the middle. Also, when you can run the ball down their throats between the tackles, I love that too. …Still need good CBs and pass rushers too.

  82. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Cornerback Storm Duck to miss remainder of season

McDaniel confirmed that cornerback Storm Duck is out for the season with a knee injury.

Injured players won’t be activated this week

McDaniel does not anticipate anyone coming off PUP or injured reserve this week.

They include Liam Eichenberg, Jason Sanders, Austin Jackson, James Daniels and Jason Marshall.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Ollie Gordon has been my favorite player from this last draft ever since training camp started.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

BBM was initially down on the pick. Shows how much he knows. lol

      • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

No, I don’t blame you for being down on the pick since we had drafted Achane and Wright the last couple years. I didn’t think much of the pick at the time, but once he was in camp, he became a favorite of mine.

  83. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rich, BBM – Clearly McDaniel does not like Jaylen Wright. That’s a damn shame, waste of a pick. (2 picks, 2024 4th and 2025 3rd)

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

I agree it was a wasted pick. I think they need to do “right” by wright and try to trade him. Let him compete for a starting or 2nd string position with another team.

  84. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Rich,

I’m of the same opinion. I think we have plenty of talent in the skill positions and need to rebuild other areas that are usually more important. We don’t need to be Cincy with 2- 3 elite WRs and a terrible defense.

Let’s say we draft 5th next year. I’d be ecstatic with a RT, OG, CB, CB, S, TE draft for my first 6 picks (not in that order but alternating O and D every round depending on who is there).

I think Waddle, Gordon, Achane, and two complimentary WRs like Washington is plenty of firepower if your QB has time to throw the ball. That means fixing the OL and maybe getting a top tier TE in the 3rd. Our D is starting to gel but the back end needs a LOT of help. Get a top tier QB in 27, and I’m good. Getting rid of some experienced guys and playing those 26′ rookies give them experience as we continue to pick early for the next draft and moving up for our QB. That’s just my thoughts and hopes.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Absolutely, here are some players I really like and it’s all defense and OL. I wish we had that many picks, but here are the rounds they may go in.

1 Spencer Fano-RT, Utah (trade down)*

1 Sonny Styles-LB, Ohio State (trade down)

      2 Cashius Howell-Edge, Texas A&M

      2 Colton Hood-CB, Tennessee

      2 Chase Bisontis-LG, Texas A&M

      3 AJ Haulcy-SAF, LSU

      3 Zion Young-Edge, Missouri

      3 Oscar Delp-TE, Georgia

      • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

I do have another player I really like, but Dolphins’ fans would probably have a meltdown if he was drafted.

A’Mauri Washington-NT, Oregon. This dude is really big, athletic, and quick for his size. He gets great penetration up the middle.

Rich, I wouldn’t have a melt down if we drafted A’Mauri Washington in the top of the 3rd. Dude is gifted and not just quick but has speed. He’s projected to run in the 4.8’s at 330 pounds. I think some say he needs to clean up his tackling a little but he is a beast.

Benito will be gone. Will need to add another somewhere.

I knew you liked him, BBM. The guys here have more football knowledge than the general Dolphins fans, so I wouldn’t really include them in the meltdown. LOL

My “What If” is about them not only having a winning record this year but making the playoffs?

If that happens would that change your opinion?

    ————–

I wanted to revisit this post, Markeyh, because we’ve seen this happen before after a dreaded start to the season… to come back very hot!

We won yesterday against a really up-and-down team in the Falcons. NOW… if we beat the Ravens on Thursday night (looks like Lamar will be back), we just might have a chance (no matter how slim) to end up with a winning record and/or a playoff berth.

For the record, I do NOT foresee it happening… but if it DOES happen, I’d still be so pissed off that we couldn’t get it going in the early part of the season. I’d still be in favor of removing Capri McD and General Grief.

Quite obviously, it doesn’t matter what I /WE think… it matters what Steve Ross thinks.

Now if I was Steve Ross, I’d have already made up my mind to can Capri McD and General Grief after the season is over. And if we suddenly start to win games, I’d throw a wrench in the works to ensure we pick in the top-5 of the ’26 NFL Draft. It’s too little, too late to start winning now.

I’m cynical at this point… and I’m certain we’d be bounced out of the WildCard round if we even somehow make it this season. Just me and my $.02, man.

Dante Moore is out in my top QBs conversation. Looking at PSU now, it wasn’t that amazing of an accomplishment, and he’s looked really raw after that game. I think he needs a lot more seasoning. Simpson and Mendoza top my list with both having some question marks and good points.

Simpson tops my list because he’s played better teams, The Big Ten this year is just as good up top but overall weaker than the SEC. Simpson has run a gauntlet and while he’s had some bad plays and a couple bad games, he’s been consistently good. No one has a harder schedule than a SEC team and that Bama squad has the tools to be champs this year. He doesn’t have enough experience though. He’d get eaten alive in the NFL.

Mendoza has the experience I really like in the NFL draft. 3+ year starters just adjust better to the NFL. He’s played solidly but most of his TDs were in a 3-game stretch against two lower division teams and a decent at best Illini squad. He had a solid game against Oregon but their schedule is pretty weak so far. I’ll learn a lot more when they play….OSU in the B10 champ game because they have no more good teams to play. Then we’ll see playoff Mendoza and what that entails. He might take the top spot in the end.

Honestly, I really don’t like the options this year and hope Moore, Simpson, and Sellers go back for one more year. All of them could use more experience. That leaves Mendoza and guys that aren’t really good enough.

Let’s say we draft 5th next year. I’d be ecstatic with a RT, OG, CB, CB, S, TE draft for my first 6 picks (not in that order but alternating O and D every round depending on who is there)…

    ———–

I like your draft strategy here, New Age, and the positions you’ve highlighted. The only thing I’d have to ask you is this: what are we doing at QB for ’26? Are we still going to roll with Tua as our starter under a new HC and/or GM… or might we need to pay him to ride the pines as the Browns have done with Deshaun Watson?

I’m pretty much with ya regarding the names of this draft class of QBs above… I get ya.

I’m not sure what to do regarding the QB situation right now either… other than to somehow land Mendoza (SHOULD he ball out in meaningful games like the B10 championship and post-season) or Simpson (same thing).

How about Marcus Mariota vs Patty Mahomes this evening?!!

Mariota is destroying Patty statistically(!), though it looks to be tied at 7-up going into the half.
