Chris Grier Gone! A New Era Begins!

Chris Grier is gone, and I rejoice because this move brings hope that this franchise can turn things around, build a strong team, and become a perennial contender. Chris Grier by all accounts is a very pleasant fellow, but in big business, and the NFL is BIG BUSINESS, you have to succeed when you’re at the top, and Chris Grier failed to do that. I’m not going to spend time discussing any of his failures, I’ve done that plenty, but now it’s a good time to look to the future.

As many of you know, I made a statement, and ultimatum of sorts. I said that if GM Chris Grier was still here next season, that I would not continue to support this team, that I COULD NOT, and I meant it. I actually felt some sad pangs of nostalgia, because I’ve been with you guys and gals for somewhere around 12 or so years, give or take a year or two, and I was thinking to myself could I really just cut off ties with all of you here? I wasn’t actually sure if I could follow through on my statement, but now I’m glad that I don’t have to. Phew!

Now that the big domino has fallen, the Dolphins need to trade some players and get some draft compensation to help build this team better. Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Rasul Douglas, Jack Jones, trade ’em all and start this all over and build it the right way! Hope springs eternal as we can now look forward to bringing in a GM who has patience and discipline and lets the draft come to him, rather than reaching for certain players he likes and constantly overspending draft capital by trading up. You know who those players are and just how many times it’s happened. Inexcusable.

It hasn’t been easy being a Dolphins fan the last 25 years. We lived through the Patriots Dynasty with Brady and Belichick from 2001-2019. The Bills drafted Josh Allen in 2018, and the returns were pretty quick. The Bills have taken over nicely for the Patriots, becoming the Beast of the East since 2019. Yes, we had a glimmer, or as I would call it a “Mirage” in 2023, but the Bills in the end blew away the mirage and extinguished the silly thought that we were actually contenders. The Bills are stumbling just a bit, and now we have the Patriots who just walked right on past us, leaped past us actually, and are in 1st place after 8 games at 6-2.

The Miami Dolphins and NY Jets continue the cycle of hiring and firing new regimes, but that’s what losing brings. Chris Grier was given a wide berth and plenty of leeway, plenty of time, and plenty of money and cooperation from the Team Owner Stephen Ross. Chris Grier was GM for most of 10 years and finished with a 77-80 record. So while the Patriots had a two decade run at the top, and now the Bills and Patriots are fighting out, the Dolphins and Jets have languished at the bottom fighting for the basement spot in the AFC East for over 20 years. I’m not even sure why Dolphins and Jets fans hate each other, we should empathize with them as we have been in the same boat, a boat with holes in it that forever continues it’s descent to the murky ocean floor.

I have to tell you how excited I am to see who we trade and what compensation we get. I am once again excited about next year’s draft, even though I know not who will be pulling the strings and making the selections, but I will sleep well tonight knowing who isn’t. It truly is a time to rejoice, this team is staler than bread you accidentally left in the pantry since 2008. I know Mike McDaniel will remain with the team until season’s end, and really, it doesn’t matter. He was in over his head as the Head Coach, many good coordinators are, and Mike McDaniel was never even an Offensive Coordinator, he was just a run game coordinator, far different than calling all the plays. Even more different than leading men and shaping them for battle in the trenches.

I’m excited to see who we hire as Head Coach. Do we continue the trend of hiring a first time NFL Head Coach or do we go to the recycling bin and find someone who was already an NFL Head Coach? I know we need a strong personality, someone who instantly commands respect, and preferably, someone who was successful and has a strong resume in either the college ranks, has NFL experience, or was successful former Head Coach (Not named Bill Belichick). Jon Gruden is a name that has bandied about and I know this guy knows his football, and is a very energetic person with tons of grit, tons of personality, and has won a Super Bowl as a HC. I think much like the LA Chargers hiring Jim Harbaugh, Gruden could similar things for the Dolphins. I’m not stuck on Gruden, but I wouldn’t hate it.

    @RichEisenShow

Miami parted ways with GM Chris Grier on Friday and speculation is rampant about the futures of Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa — could they really be back in 2026?

    Video –> https://x.com/RichEisenShow/status/1984311265385464320

    ———–

I spoke of this scenario just yesterday. It all has to do with the financial$ of Tua, and Capri McD is the coach who has unlocked Tua. Good video.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Unlocked him to do what exactly?

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m talking about ’22 and ’23, after Brian Flores more or less left Tua for dead. Of course, Tua concussions have been unlocked as well.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

It ALL comes down to General Grief having extended Tua to BIG $$$. It would be financial suicide to cut Tua after this season, and nobody is going to trade for him. May as well ride it out one more season with Capri McD.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Oh lord no M – That’s insanity! You get a GM, he picks his guy and forward you go, whether Tua is here or not. If Tua can’t do the new guy’s offense, either Ewers or the Qb we draft next season will. It’s one more year, you can’t lay that shit on fans leaving MM and Tua. You just can’t!!

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t disagree, man! Watch the video above!

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Rumor is it was Mike McDaniel who got Tua the extention!

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I don’t have time to watch the video right now, but what GM worth their salt is going to be ok coming into a situation where they don’t get to pick the HC? Especially a HC with as many question marks as McD…

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I absolutely see that point and it’s a great counter argument to keeping Capri McD another season.

Check out the video when ya get the chance.

  14. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

MR. ROSS, PLEASE don’t listen to sb7mvp!!! That woul be tampering which you’ve been called out before by the NFL and lost draft picks!

    What douchebag advice….lol

  15. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – 2023 was an aberration. That could never happen again. He was healthy, we had the cheat motion, and then of course we blew the chance to host a playoff game by losing 3 of 5, even in his best season ever. You need to make believe that never happened because it could never happen again. The Tua we’re seeing now is what he is.

  16. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – I hate Rich Eisen and ESPN, I don’t care what he says.

  17. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I just want ALL of you to know that I am NOT endorsing Capri McD for another season! What I am saying is that the financial obligations to Tua almost warrant keeping McD around for another season.

Watch the video above. Tom Pelissero breaks it down perfectly… again, I do NOT endorse doing this(!!!), but I could unfortunately see it happening.

  18. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

IF my condition for employment as GM means I had to keep the HC, then it’s a hard pass!!! Then, ROSS deserves another failed effort and the loss of the rest of fanbase.

    It’s that simple, for me…lol

  19. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Gotta play this one, especially being it’s a Friday…

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – If you’re going to blame Mike McDaniel, first you have to realize how the journey began. Mike McDaniel was brought here by Chris Grier, to coddle the QB Chris Grier picked with the #5 pick in the 2020 Draft. Tua Tagovailoa was shaken up so by “Meany” HC Brian Flores that he needed an ego booster, and Grier hired one. So if you want to put it all on MM, just remember who brought him here in the first place. MM will be gone at season’s end, pointless to make a change now, the team is dead in the water.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

If MM start winning meaningless games and we fall in the draft order than how do we benefit?

If one of the current coaches with HC potential is not al teast looked at duiring this dead season and we allow Mike McDaniel to keep his job that how will things get better?

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

MM should be fired ASAP! And we look to the future with a new GM and HC in 2026!

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I get it, you’re worried that MM might start winning. I don’t have any such fears. I do think if we made a change though that it could spark something. If we fired MM and say gave the interim job to either Frank Smith or Darrell Bevell, we could actually win some games. I have no inside connections to the organization but I think MM is toast as soon as the season is over. If I’m wrong, we’ll talk then.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

He should have been fired today along with Chris Grier!

  21. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

We’ve already witnessed MM’s failure as a HC, leader of men by appointing a commitee….fail, fail, fail….

Ross, needs to READ his own statement about getting better, changing course…

We suck too! We should commiserate, we’re always at the bottom of the barrel.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It’s mostly because Jest fans are the biggest douchebag, dingleberry, dickwads on the face of the planet.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

True story – my youngest daughter was an absolute delight of a child. I know every parent says that, but in this case it’s true. for context, my older two were not delightful children, but my youngest, absolutely wonderful. She was just naturally quiet, respectful, caring, etc.

Every teacher she ever had LOVED her. She only had one teacher who she seemed to have an issue with, her 3rd grade teacher. That lady was a b^tch, and she was a Jest fan.

  24. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Mike McDaniel is a joke and as clueless as a head coach, and that has been the Dolphins’ problem these past 4 years.

McDaniel’s record against winning teams is 3-15. His record against teams with a pre-game record of .500 or below is 26-13.

That is all that needs to be said!

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think MM is in way over his head, but you’re ignoring how he got here. You’re absolving the guy who hired him. How do you figure that makes sense?

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Christmas comes early for Dolphins fans!!!

  26. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I too wish Grier the best. In fact, BBM hopes he gets hired to be the director of scouting for the Jets or Bills.

  27. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

As many of you know, I made a statement, and ultimatum of sorts. I said that if GM Chris Grier was still here next season, that I would not continue to support this team, that I COULD NOT, and I meant it.

    ———

MikeE, you know Mr. Ross reads us. I think your comments and threat to leave was the final straw. Ross wanted to keep you over Grier. That’s so nice! lol

  28. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

    Mike E,

No, I didn’t think Ross would fire Grier mid season (we had that discussion a month ago). I thought MM would get fired, and I’m a little perplexed as to why he didn’t. I suppose it doesn’t matter if they fire him now or at the end of the season. I would rather have Grier gone now, because as you mentioned we don’t want him making trades now.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

and more importantly, we know he won’t be running the team moving forward. I guess Ross was smart enough to realize that fans had lost faith, and Grier finally needed to go. Plus, his mistakes were magnified this season.

  29. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m not worried about McD turning this thing around and being kept. We may be stuck with Tua another year, but I have a hard time believing anyone, even Ross, could be stupid enough to keep McD while trying to hire a GM.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

That is why he should have been the first to go today or at least both together!

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I figured it’d be McD first. I’m not sure what you get by firing the GM mid-season since you’ll likely not find his replacement until the end of the season.

I agree it’s weird that it wasn’t both of them. But as I said below I’m fine losing the rest of the season. I’d be more concerned about an interim HC getting more wins than McD will.

I figure we’ll end the season with 3 or 4 wins and be top 10. I’m good with that. if Ross keeps McD, then we’re f^cked, because he’s a terrible HC.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

And the team has to know McD’s days are numbered. He’s a lame duck coach now, so not sure how he’s going to keep control of this thing. And it’s not like it was a tightly run ship to begin with, lol.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

I get the reason they fired Grier now because they can take advantage of the trade deadline and explore all options for more draft picks at the end of the season.

But I feel it should have been both out the door today and McDaniel should have been the first to go!

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m not sure the interim GM is going to come in and get a bunch of trades going within 3 days. I could be wrong.

  30. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The fact that Mike McDaniel is still employed is troubling; with the talent he has on the team, they should be a 5-win team or more. How some blame our former GM is mind-boggling.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

what is mind-boggling to some of us is the fact that some people cannot see the dirth of talent on this team cannot see through their aqua and Orange classes that the players that they think are great are just fucking mediocre average.

  31. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The last time the Dolphins new Interim GM Champ Kelly worked as a GM was with the Raiders as Interim GM also when the Raiders fired Dave Ziegler in 2023.

Both times Champ Kelly took over as Interim GM was on Halloween 2023 and now Halloween 2025.

  32. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

It’s like the chicken or the egg…which came first?

Do you fire CG or MM first? Who cares as long as both are gone for 2026.

  33. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I would imagine Champ was involved in any trade discussions Grier was having, so that shouldn’t change much. We should move a DE or two. Grier getting fired today, or at the end of the season has little to no effect on the team, I think just us as fans are relieved that we KNOW he’s gone, rather than waiting and wondering if it’s going to happen.

  34. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t see MM being the HC next season. I think Ross probably thinks firing him in season wouldn’t accomplish much and probably would have a negative effect on the team. Start over this offseason.

  35. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tim – I feel the same way

  36. rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

TBH, I’m not going to wish Grier anything. I don’t care what he does in the future as long as it’s not the Dolphins’ GM. He was a big part of the problem here in Miami and let him be that for someone else. I don’t hate Grier, I just don’t care what he does in the future.

  37. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

It matters that Grier was fired today rather than at season’s end because he most likely would have held onto players we need to be trying to trade by the trade deadline.

As for Mike McDaniel, keeping him prevents the team from at least looking at someone else on the staff who deserves a shot to try and prove they can be the next HC. It would be a shame to let go of a future winning HC that we currently have on the staff.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

How does it prevent us looking at someone else on staff? Do you mean actually seeing them operate as Head Coach? I think they don’t want to give this team a spark so they’ll worry about that stuff at the end of the season. I’m pretty sure I don’t want anyone that’s here to be our HC anyway.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The flaw in that thinking is that we need to find out now during the regular season if one of these guys have the potential of being our future head coach they have a half a season of games to prove themselves why give the guy who has stunk up the season so far an opportunity complete the season

Mike McDaniel should I’ve been fired today

      • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I’m not going to disagree that MM needed to be fired, but very rarely does an interim coach stick around anywhere (see Dan Campbell).

  38. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Don’t know what interim GM Champ might be thinking as the trade deadline approaches (this Tuesday), but I’m thinking BOTH Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb will be traded.

Gotta try to trade Zach Wilson, try to trade Minkah, and try to trade Austin Jackson (good luck with that). If we can even get a used candy wrapper for Matt Judon, make it so. If we can get anything for either Rasul Douglas or Jack Jones, make it so.

I will be PISSED if we trade Jordyn Brooks (KEEPER!!!) or Jaylen Waddle (KEEPER, unless the price is right, like a 1st or 2nd rounder!).

Don’t know what the next HC will want on the O-Line, but I’ve become partial to Aaron Brewer at Center.

And I think we can ALL agree: do NOT touch Achane. He’s incredible!

And obviously, ‘Reek will be gone.

  39. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’m of the opinion it wasn’t a problem with Flores. It was a problem with Tua. He wouldn’t respond to hard coaching….which he needed…and whined about it. That trickled down throughout the team coming from the QB.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Agreed. Flores actually did a great job with what he had. But those hard ass coaches also need to understand today’s players (see Brian Kelly in LSU) are also different from even ten years ago. I see the same thing in schools today: most of today’s kids just need a different approach. The “I’m the teacher , that’s why” argument doesn’t fly anymore.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think Flores is anymore than a great DC

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Chop Robinson in concussion protocol not ideal if you’re trading both Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb. I suppose they can bring up Quinton Bell and Derrick McLendon from the PS

  45. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Markey,

I agree that Grier was at least partially let go due to the trade window. Kelly has worked with him so there’s no reason to think he can’t do the same thing Grier would, but he’s got zero attachment to any players.

I think the primary reason is last night’s game. Someone had to go and letting McD go could have hurt our draft spot. Letting Grier go affects nothing and may help with trading players. Better than letting the coach go and then getting a winning streak. Ross already saw Flores ruin his draft spot. No need to risk it a second time.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The most important issue is finding the new HC and GM, and even though I prefer the GM to get hired first, I have no issue if the HC is someone experienced who gets hired first and then finds a compatible GM.

    Tyrel Dodson?? really

You may as well just put down the roster, you’re basically just giving him credit for anyone he put on the roster. LOL

I totally agree with turfing Grier now , if Interim can do some deals and get us some picks so we can get some cheap talent on our lite beer budget , fabulous .. also sends a message to everyone 🤷‍♂️early saying Hey we are hiring a GM at seasons end. Once they apply they will be told whether they have to keep McD and Tua or not .. telling them they have to keep those two would be a huge mistake especially McD ..

  56. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Sawyer Robertson looks like Justin Herbert

  57. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The only way it makes sense to keep McDaniel is that he will guarantee that the Dolphins will complete a losing season, as I see no more than maybe 2 games that he might win on the schedule.

If that is what happens, then it is a wise move to retain him.

  58. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

With Miami struggling and little hope of a turnaround in sight, most expected the Dolphins to consider trading away key talent in order to jumpstart a rebuild. The Dolphins have received trade calls on a host of notable players — Waddle, edge rushers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb, plus veterans Matt Judon and Rasul Douglas — but were unwilling to make a deal in recent weeks, per Pelissero.

Now that Grier is out and Kelly is in charge in an interim role, the Dolphins could get busy with the deadline approaching Tuesday.

The fact that teams are calling Miami for quite a few players is more than proof that it’s not the talent on the roster that’s the issue.

Right Markey – So you want to give Chris Grier credit for signing a guy lingering around in Free Agency right before the games began (Rasul Douglas), Bradley Chubb, a guy we traded a 1st RD, 4th RD and RB Chase Edmonds for and he played a total of 33 games for us and gave us 17.5 sacks. and Matt Judon who has done nothing here for us. Also drafting Jaelan Phillips who was always injured in college and then always injured in the pros too. I love Philips, but he’s always injured and unavailable. He did the same with Tua.

I guess we have different standards. I don’t view any of this as Grier doing a good job. I guess somehow you do, and that’s where we really differ on the GM’s performance.

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Yes, we do disagree because we have a guy who is not a good HC and has performed poorly even when he had his best season in 2023.

This guy has gotten progressively worse and is clueless, thinking he is a good HC and is a failure at managing players. In fact, he is a poor manager.

Nobody respects him, and he is a failure. Any competent HC would have won at least one playoff game with the talent we had in 2023, as well as the division with the same talent that Mike McDaniel has been given.

So yes, we see things totally differently, as I feel both Grier and McDaniel should be out of a job as of today, and the only reason that makes sense to me as to why McDaniel is still employed is because they are banking on the fact that he will continue to lose games as the season moves on.

I see a lot of Dolphins fans on X want Louis Riddick as our GM. Strange . . .

What qualifications does he bring? That he’s on ESPN? Oy!

Louis Riddick’s qualifications include playing seven seasons as an NFL safety, serving in multiple front-office roles for the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles, and holding a degree in economics from the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently an analyst for ESPN, most notably as a color commentator for Monday Night Football

He was a player and involved on the management side of the NFL. Seems like a qualified person to me. Not a choice I would make, but he definitely qualifies.

What is odd is that we fired our GM because of the team’s losing record, even though many feel this team should be at least 7-2 with better coaching. Mike McDaniel has been a complete disaster as the Dolphins’ head coach, and I am sure they are banking on the fact that he will continue to lose games the rest of the season.

Many of you wanted Grier fired and got your wish so now tell me who you think is the best guy to move forward with?

  62. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

As of now My top choice would be:

Jon Robinson the former general manager for the Tennessee Titans, a position he held from 2016 to 2022. He was fired by the team in December 2022, following a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, where former Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown, who was traded by Robinson, scored two touchdowns.

During his tenure, the Titans had a .605 winning percentage, made four playoff appearances, and won two consecutive AFC South titles

  63. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Markey, what about the Eagles assistant GM. He’s been with the Eagles for 16 years and help build that team. Eagles seem to believe in building the trenches.

Alec Halaby, who enters his 16th year with the Philadelphia Eagles, was named assistant general manager in 2022 after spending six seasons (2016- 21) as the team’s vice president of football operations and strategy.

During his tenure with the Eagles, Halaby has focused on player evaluation, roster management and resource allocation, with a particular emphasis on integrating traditional and analytical methods in decision-making. In that time, he has contributed to 10 postseason berths, six division crowns, three conference titles and two Super Bowl Championships (LII and LIX).

Halaby previously served as a special assistant to the general manager (2012-15) and player personnel analyst (2010-11). He began his career as an intern with the Eagles’ football operations department (2007, ’09).

A native of Madison, WI, Halaby graduated from Harvard in 2009.

If anyone watches the late night Cincinnati at Utah game to check out those 2 OT’s from Utah, also check out Cincinnati ILB Jake Golday, 6’4, 240. He’s one of my day 3 favs. He reminds me a lot of ILB Jack Campbell but better in coverage. I have been taking him in the 5th but he has slowly climbed draft boards this season and likely to go by the 4th round.

Lastly, also watch for Utah Safety (FS) Tao Johnson. He is a another day 3 fav of mine at 6’1, 193, runs in the low 4.4’s. He was Utah’s 2nd highest rated player on defense last year.

His 3-15 record vs teams above .500 speaks for itself, and there’s nobody to blame but Mike McDaniel, whose record has declined every season.

  71. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The Miami Dolphins have received calls from teams interested in five veterans ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero says the Dolphins turned away callers for the following players, but the firing of Chris Grier as general manager could change their availability:

    • WR Jaylen Waddle
    • OLB Jaelan Phillips
    • OLB Bradley Chubb
    • OLB Matthew Judon
    • CB Rasul Douglas

Waddle stands out as the least likely to be moved. The receiver is still just 26 and under contract through the 2028 season with a price tag that is, for now, very manageable. With Tyreek Hill’s time in Miami likely over, there’s not much reason for the Dolphins to move on from a No. 1 receiver to build future offenses around.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

For a roster devoid of talent, (according to you Mike E) it sure is strange that teams are lining up before the trade deadline for Dolphins Talent.

    @CameronWolfe

Philadelphia Eagles would like to trade for Dolphins EDGE Jaelan Phillips at right price, per sources. I’m told Vic Fangio thinks highly of Phillips from their year together in Miami (2023). He would help fill Eagles need for another pass rusher.

  73. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The #Dolphins will, at least, now consider offers for Jaylen Waddle, sources say. From the story:

  74. Randy's avatar Randy says:

What would those players net in trades? I’m guessing people are calling the Dolphins hoping to get players on the cheap. They’ve been watching this team circle the drain for 18 months, and they’re hoping to pounce. I don’t think it’s because our talent is just that good. It happens every time a team may go into fire sale mode.

    Waddle….probably a 3-4th. Phillips….probably a 4-5th. Chubb…MAYBE a 3rd but probably lower. Judon and Douglas…I’m not sure why they’re on this list but….zilch or at best a 6-7th.

Personally, I’d keep Waddle. He’s not a #1, but he can be a very productive #2 if you use him right, and you’re not gonna get huge compensation anyway. He’s the only one of those guys whose talent and production can be/is actually top tier.

  75. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Cool. Teams like Philly may be willing to give up higher draft picks in trades. Teams who feel they’re legitimate SB contenders and a player or two away. You know….like our FO thought we were a few years ago. 🙂

  81. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @JFowlerESPN

In talking with several teams today, belief is Dolphins have more aggressive posture to trade market post-Chris-Grier firing.   Interim GM Champ Kelly has had discussions with teams since promotion. Pass rusher a focus – sorting out Jaelen Phillips/Bradley Chubb futures. Part of reason Jaylen Waddle trade unlikely: Would take ‘a lot’ to make Miami consider, per teams, possibly a 1 plus more. Would have to be blown away.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

I am ok with that….. I think Grier did his job well and took a shot that did not work out due to some reasons beyond his control. I can’t absolve him of his failures, but MM is not HC material for now IMHO.

First-time HCs under Steve Ross (since 2009)… every single HC he’s ever hired is a first-time HC and former Offensive coach. Mind you, he inherited Tony Sparano in 2009, but Sparano was also a first-time HC and former Offensive coach (O-Line).

    Tony Sparano (RIP): 18-27

    Joe Philbin: 24-28

    Adam Gase: 23-25

    Mike McDaniel: 30-30

Mike McDaniel’s best season as the Dolphins’ head coach in the 2023 season, he had a record of 0-3 against teams with a winning record. Their overall regular season record was 11-6, all of their losses were to teams that finished the season above .500.

Playoffs: The Dolphins lost their only playoff game.

    Overall record: 11-6

Record against teams with a winning record: 0-3

Record against teams without a winning record: 10-1

Mike McDaniel’s overall record against winning teams is 3-15. His record against teams with a pregame record of .500 or below is 26-13.

    Fact!

  89. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I wonder if any college QB has finished their season completing 80% or more of their passes.

Through 8 games Ohio State QB Julian Sayin has completed 80.7% of his passes with 23 TD’s to 3 INT’s.

  90. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – One more thing to add. I think Mike McDaniel has a good staff of assistant coaches. As much as you’re going to hate this, McDaniel has to run this offense to try and keep Tua safe. That really limits what he can do, and it’s designed and always has been designed to get the ball out quickly to prevent Tua from taking hits. Tua struggles when there’s pressure coming and if he’s outside the pocket and pressure is there he throws the ball away. That’s not on the Head Coach, although if I were Mike McDaniel, I wouldn’t coddle him, I’d tell him to play balls out, and if he gets hurt, he gets hurt, at least he did his best to win.

On the defensive side, we have a hodge-podge of players. All the “talent” you speak of like Rasul Douglas, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jack Jones just got here. I don’t think Anthony Weaver is great, he spent 1 year as DC with the Houston Texans as DC and they didn’t do too well. You have to into account he had to start 3 rookies in the D-Line rotation, and they were getting blown off the ball for the first bunch of games, he had a revolving secondary due to injuries so it’s hard to put it all on him. He also had to rely on 2 guys coming back from serious injuries in Phillips and Chubb. Phillips is always a freaking step or two late, it’s unbelievable. Even when he gets there like against the Chargers, he was unable to make the play to take Herbert down and then Herbert wins the game.

The strongest unit on this team is the inside LB group, but you don’t win championships when everything else is suspect. If Phillips or Chubb or MFFF or anyone plays well somewhere else, it will because of the talent they have around them, not because the coach is better. Sorry . . .

The one unit Chris Grier has been trying to assemble to have a good unit is the offensive line. He’s used 1st RD picks and multiple picks on a few players and still to this date, our O-line is a fucking joke! I’ve names the picks already, not listing them again, but 1st RD pick on Austin Jackson, multiple picks on Liam Eichenberg, multiple picks on Jonah Savaiinaea, 1st RD pick on Patrick Paul (Finally a solid pick!), and big free agency whiffs like James Daniels. For Tua the one thing most important was a strong O-line and Grier, no one else but Grier, failed to build it. Sorry . . .

You can’t explain that away or blame anybody but McDaniel.

there was a chance we could win with Tua, its long gone now, because of his health issues, concussions in particular

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      the Tua/MM experiment is over

MM can’t be fully appreciated as an O mind with limited Tua, his lack of adjustment in game is baffling, so no point in keeping him

2026 is a throw away season, if we compete for a playoff spot this organization is making a huge mistake

MM being the coach in 2026 would actually be a good thing, it would allow us to purge before acquiring the next HC, let MM take the hit of a shitty season
