Chris Grier Gone! A New Era Begins!

Chris Grier is gone, and I rejoice because this move brings hope that this franchise can turn things around, build a strong team, and become a perennial contender. Chris Grier by all accounts is a very pleasant fellow, but in big business, and the NFL is BIG BUSINESS, you have to succeed when you’re at the top, and Chris Grier failed to do that. I’m not going to spend time discussing any of his failures, I’ve done that plenty, but now it’s a good time to look to the future.

As many of you know, I made a statement, and ultimatum of sorts. I said that if GM Chris Grier was still here next season, that I would not continue to support this team, that I COULD NOT, and I meant it. I actually felt some sad pangs of nostalgia, because I’ve been with you guys and gals for somewhere around 12 or so years, give or take a year or two, and I was thinking to myself could I really just cut off ties with all of you here? I wasn’t actually sure if I could follow through on my statement, but now I’m glad that I don’t have to. Phew!

Now that the big domino has fallen, the Dolphins need to trade some players and get some draft compensation to help build this team better. Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Rasul Douglas, Jack Jones, trade ’em all and start this all over and build it the right way! Hope springs eternal as we can now look forward to bringing in a GM who has patience and discipline and lets the draft come to him, rather than reaching for certain players he likes and constantly overspending draft capital by trading up. You know who those players are and just how many times it’s happened. Inexcusable.

It hasn’t been easy being a Dolphins fan the last 25 years. We lived through the Patriots Dynasty with Brady and Belichick from 2001-2019. The Bills drafted Josh Allen in 2018, and the returns were pretty quick. The Bills have taken over nicely for the Patriots, becoming the Beast of the East since 2019. Yes, we had a glimmer, or as I would call it a “Mirage” in 2023, but the Bills in the end blew away the mirage and extinguished the silly thought that we were actually contenders. The Bills are stumbling just a bit, and now we have the Patriots who just walked right on past us, leaped past us actually, and are in 1st place after 8 games at 6-2.

The Miami Dolphins and NY Jets continue the cycle of hiring and firing new regimes, but that’s what losing brings. Chris Grier was given a wide berth and plenty of leeway, plenty of time, and plenty of money and cooperation from the Team Owner Stephen Ross. Chris Grier was GM for most of 10 years and finished with a 77-80 record. So while the Patriots had a two decade run at the top, and now the Bills and Patriots are fighting out, the Dolphins and Jets have languished at the bottom fighting for the basement spot in the AFC East for over 20 years. I’m not even sure why Dolphins and Jets fans hate each other, we should empathize with them as we have been in the same boat, a boat with holes in it that forever continues it’s descent to the murky ocean floor.

I have to tell you how excited I am to see who we trade and what compensation we get. I am once again excited about next year’s draft, even though I know not who will be pulling the strings and making the selections, but I will sleep well tonight knowing who isn’t. It truly is a time to rejoice, this team is staler than bread you accidentally left in the pantry since 2008. I know Mike McDaniel will remain with the team until season’s end, and really, it doesn’t matter. He was in over his head as the Head Coach, many good coordinators are, and Mike McDaniel was never even an Offensive Coordinator, he was just a run game coordinator, far different than calling all the plays. Even more different than leading men and shaping them for battle in the trenches.

I’m excited to see who we hire as Head Coach. Do we continue the trend of hiring a first time NFL Head Coach or do we go to the recycling bin and find someone who was already an NFL Head Coach? I know we need a strong personality, someone who instantly commands respect, and preferably, someone who was successful and has a strong resume in either the college ranks, has NFL experience, or was successful former Head Coach (Not named Bill Belichick). Jon Gruden is a name that has bandied about and I know this guy knows his football, and is a very energetic person with tons of grit, tons of personality, and has won a Super Bowl as a HC. I think much like the LA Chargers hiring Jim Harbaugh, Gruden could similar things for the Dolphins. I’m not stuck on Gruden, but I wouldn’t hate it.

I thought Tua was damaged goods on draft day. I even said it here, that drafting Tua was a mistake.

    ———-

Same, but I KNEW we were going to select Tua. My guy was Jalen Hurts… I watched almost every single game he played at Oklahoma live… and CeeDee Lamb was a STUD, as well.

But even when Lamb was out, Hurts was able to put the whole damn team on his back and won.

That brings into question regarding final mock drafts… is that what you PREDICT is going to happen, or is that what you would do?

In my case in ’20, I predicted we’d take both Tua and Austin Jackson… not what I would have done.

I think it’s more like this

The good player that we should draft / and I want us to draft

The shitty player we’ll end up drafting / did draft

    Mike E,

I’m going to do a similar ultimatum to you but I’m far less of a presence or fan nowadays. If McDonalds is here next year, I’m out until Ross is dead and probably a few years after his daughter shows what kind of owner she will be. I’m tired of his meddling, I’m tired of this team sucking, and I’m tired of watching incompetence. One more year of being unable to get a play out on time, much less coach well is a bridge too far. I can’t and won’t handle another year of it. I’m about done anyway.

New Age – I totally get the frustration. When we parted ways with Grier I really started thinking of good things ahead. I’m disgusted to hear things like Mike McDaniel may be retained so he could have another chance with Tua in 2026. Neither one of those fuckers deserves one more chance. If they haven’t done it by now, it ain’t fucking happening. McD sucks as a HC, and Tua is serviceable at best with a good team around him, but will never, ever win a big game with this team. Why anyone would think he will ever will is beyond my comprehension.

Even though I have had specific “disagreements” with some of you on here in the many years we have been corresponding, I sincerely hope nobody leaves here because of the incompetence of this organization. We need a place to vent. 😃👍

  8. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Joe Rose just had Brian Baldinger on was discussing our division. I mean I’m aware, but when you hear someone who’s in the know saying things like the Patriots are a really good football team and Drake Maye is playing like a franchise QB, and Vrabel is doing an excellent job, nothing seems to big for him. Then they talk about how Buffalo is going on year 3 of the same 5 offensive linemen and how well they play together and how James Cook is running the ball so well, and Joey Bosa was big add to their defense. On a better note, he did say the Jets got great value for the 2 players they traded, Sauce hasn’t been that good at all, and Quinnen Williams isn’t a gamechanger, but despite having all those picks, they still have to use them well and with the Jets, who knows.

Then he was talking about the Dolphins, Joe asked him what he thought about Ross letting Chris Greir go and he wasn’t surprised, and he thinks Mike McDaniel is in real trouble too. I hope so, I mean pray so, because we shouldn’t have to be so unbelievably dysfunctional all the time, right? How do you bring back McDaniel and/or Tua? Besides the fans that have no ability to reason and have some kind of insane blind love for Tua, you don’t go out of your way for this kid anymore. Special treatment for him is done, over with. He plays for himself, not for the team. He will never put himself in harms way and because of that, he can never be a winner. Every game there are plays, yards, first downs left on the field because he’ll either throw the ball away, slide 5 yards before the 1st down marker, or he’ll just go into the fetal position and take a sack. This guy isn’t Patrick Mahomes hwere he’s accomplished something, he never wins a big game and never will, so stop coddling this guy and end the Tua era at the end of this season. None of us want to see him as the starting QB of the Miami Dolphins. Am I right?

  9. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

am I reading too much into this?

    The pussification of American continues

ESPN’s NBA boxscores no longer include shots taken and shots made

When read it shows Doncic scored 35 pts, what it doesn’t show is 9-27 shooting

You have to read the article to see if they mention shots

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

LOL – Is that pussification or just a blatant show of how much they push offense as the most important thing?

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

        scoring maybe, not offense

Kobe furiated me in his last couple of seasons, because he hogged the shots, typical game was 6 for 22 it seemed

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – That’s what I meant, scoring. It’s in every sport now. Remember in the 70’s and 80’s, if you struck out 200 times in a season you were out of MLB. Now it’s an acceptable stat.

Cowboys DL Marshawn Kneeland dies at age of 24

Doesn’t say how, but that is tragic.

  12. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Crazy that I would see this today. An article by NFL.com on Knox High School RB Myles McLaughlin who has a chance to break Derrick Henry’s total high school rushing record of 12,124 yards.

Just about a month ago I went bow hunting with my cousin and his grandson up in Indiana. He’s a senior OG and DT on his high school football team. He’s 6’3 280, says he has a scholarship offer from Butler University to play OG.

Anyway, they had a good football team finishing the season 7-3. He mentioned playing against this McLaughlin kid a couple weeks before I visited them. Said he is good but has a good OL and many of his runs are from running a wildcat offense. They lost to McLaughlin and Knox HS 36-21, said they kept it close in the first half but just got wore down trying to stop their run game.

Raiders @ Broncos this evening. First time I get to see current NFL HOFer Ashton Jeanty (LOL) play this season.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

How did Jeanty make the NFL HOF by averaging 3.9 YPC with only 3 TDs?

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I can’t tolerate the media anointing an NFL HOF in their rookie season… they did it to Andrew Luck as well.

It’s not fair to the player, trying to live up to a supernatural billing. Let the kid play and see what happens.

I’m not against Jeanty, nor was I against Luck… just let the players play without unfair pressure.

  18. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    There’s Mostert! Nice play!

  19. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Michael Mayer with the key block to spring Jeanty for the TD.

We should have tried to trade for Mayer before the season began.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Allow me to correct myself. Perhaps we had tried to trade for Mayer before the season began… not sure to be honest. I’d love to know, for sure.

  20. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Broncos have one helluva Defense, and Pat Surtain II is OUT this evening. Hopefully, the Raiders can capitalize, so as to get them into the 3 win column while we’re still stuck at 2 wins… just in case we win a game or 2.

  21. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Jackson Powers-Johnson is looking GOOD this evening. Wish we would have drafted him.

  22. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Chop Robinson has 8 tackles in 9 games this season with 1 sack. WTF…

  23. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And there goes Jackson Powers-Johnson off the field, needing some help walking to the sideline.

  24. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

That punt right there by the Raiders? That was a thing of magnificence! HARD RIGHT on the bounce, out at the 1/2 yard line! DAYUM!!!

  25. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Chip Kelly STILL sucks. He’s the OC of the Raiders. SMH

  26. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Geno Smith sacked 6 (SIX) times in the 1st half by the Broncos (according to the announcers).

    Tied up, 7-7 at halftime.
