We all have opinions, and here on this blog, we all share them. We also share what NFL “Insiders” and our own Miami Dolphins Beat Reporters say and think. I’ve certainly been sharing my own strong opinions as well, and today I’m going to compare and contrast mine to the others and plead my case for how I would like the Miami Dolphins to go forward into next season.
Please understand that despite the fact that I wish otherwise, I understand QB Tua Tagovailoa is still under contract not only in 2026, but in 2027 as well. The OUT is easier to accomplish in ’27, but let’s face facts, you’re paying Tua through 2026 whether he’s playing, or whether he’s playing, or whether he’s holding a clipboard for a young newly drafted QB. I understand why the talking heads say “Tua Tagovailoa will be the starting QB in 2026 because his cap hit is $56.4M and his dead cap hit is $99.2M. OK, so you know I’m aware of that, and I still stand firm in saying that doesn’t guarantee that Tua has to be the starting QB on Day 1 of the ’26 season, and for sure, not the entire ’26 season.
It happens in all sports, not just the NFL, when your team is paying a player tons of money, they want that player out there to try and get your money’s worth. Some teams though realize if that player isn’t really helping your team, and you have a better option, you can make it happen, and despite still paying that painful salary, you can sit that QB and play the QB of the future instead, and get the timeline started more quickly for your future QB. The Atlanta Falcons are doing just that right now with QB Kirk Cousins who’s cap hit is $40M. QB Michael Penix started the season, although starting QB Michael Penix is making on $5.2M. Of course now Michael Penix is injured and Qb Kirk Cousins is playing now, but the Falcons did what was best for the team, not for the talking heads. They benched the guy making the money to try and make things better, both for now, and for the future. To be fair, it didn’t work out as well as Atlanta hoped, but they stuck to their guns and stayed with the plan. The Penix led Falcons were 3-6 and the Cousins led Falcons are 0-1. Cousins will be the Qb going forward because QB Michael Penix had season ending knee surgery.
The point here is, it can be done, and now I’m going to plead my case as to why it should be done here for the Miami Dolphins in 2026. I know everyone here thinks I hate Tua, but mostly I’m just tired of everything being ABOUT Tua. Truth is, he’s not worth that. He’s about average for the most part, and he’s proven time and time again, that he simply is not good enough to carry this team if either the O-line isn’t near perfect, his receivers drop a pass, or we don’t rush for well over 100 yards, and the defense has to play superior football and not give up more than 20 points, because that’s what we’re scoring this season, 20.5 PPG.
Whether it’s on “X” (The App Formerly known as Twitter), or just reading our Miami Dolphins beat reporters, they lazily repeat the same thing over and over again that Tua is getting paid blah blah blah and therefore he has to be the starter blah blah blah and because Tua is the starter blah blah, we have to bring back the HC that he’s comfortable and succeeds with (Really???) in Mike McDaniel blah blah blah, and if you bring back those two, you have to bring back interim GM Champ Kelly who is soooooooooooo well respected in NFL circles (Really???) and makes the most sense blah blah blah. OK, that’s a heaping pile of horseshit if I ever saw one, and it’s some of the laziest thinking ever!
If I didn’t hate Tua before, if ALL of that happens next season, I will most definitely hate him, because man, he just AIN’T WORTH ALL OF THAT!!!! Think of it this way, there will be no GM search done this offseason. This SHOULD have been started as soon as GM Chris Grier was handed his walking papers. Champ Kelly was interim GM for 2 teams, 2 very bad teams, (Bears and Raiders) and as you see, he didn’t get the top job to keep. So, in what I view as a crucial point for this team, we’re going to allow Champ Kelly to conduct NFL Free Agency, and handle the 2026 NFL Draft for our team, mostly because Tua is getting paid $56.4M, Mike McDaniel brings out the best Tua (Does he???), and since we’re going with those 2 knuckleheads, and you can’t really saddle a GM worth a shit with ALL OF THAT, so let’s be lazy and fuck this team for another season!
You can’t make that make sense to me. CANNOT! So many sacrifices for all the wrong reasons. Find a qualified GM from a winning program, one who has seen what it takes to do things right to build a winning team, not a guy who was with 2 poor programs and did poorly in his own right. That’s lazy, and once again, sets this team back at least one more season if not more. Say we got “Executive X” from the Ravens, or the Chiefs, or the Steelers, or the Packers, you’d say to yourself, “Ok, this guy has come from a team with a pedigree, has seen how to build a team, was part of building that team, and has seen how the best are able to remain competitive year after year. For goodness sake, that’s what we all want here.
So do an extensive search on teams like I mentioned, then identify specific executives you want to speak to, and ask those clubs for permission to do so, and get yourself a list of 5-10 candidates that meet that criteria, and start conducting interviews. One thing here Mr. Ross, DON’T YOU DARE tell any of those said candidates they have to keep Tua as the starting QB or they have to keep HC Mike McDaniel because Tua feels comfy with him, no, you don’t say a damned word about any of those things. Let them tell you their vision of what they think should be done, and after you hear all of their thoughts, you’ll most likely see a lot of common things during all those thorough interviews and then you make your choice and never look back. In reality, Tua can be traded but you’d have to eat most of his cap money, and then in 2027, it will be even easier to let him go if you can’t do so in 2026. Tua is the past, you can clearly see the decline, and despite him not getting injured or concussed yet, you know it’s always right there, waiting to happen, and you also know that “if” it happens, that could mean he never takes the field again.
I also have to point out when lazy people say that Mike McDaniel gets the most out of Tua and that’s why he needs to stay sounds so completely ridiculous to me. Ok, we’re 4-7, Tua has 17 TD’s and 13 INT’s, and a low output of 2123 yards passing which works out to 193 yards passing per game, so add in that Tua has all of 38 yards rushing this season, he’s not even managing 200 yards per game for our team, and his TD:INT ratio sucks! This is what people call “Getting the most out him?” Could it actually be worse? I’ll gladly add in that last game, the overtime victory in Madrid Spain, not Brazil (LOL), Tua completed 3 passes in the 4th quarter, a 9 yard completion on a very short pass to who else but De’Von Achane and a screen pass to Achane for 7. Another screen pass to Achane later on went for 22, but anyone can throw a screen pass to De’Von Achane. Tua has been relegated to a “Game Manager”, which is fine for a backup QB or a young QB who’s not quite ready to put the team on his back, but not for a QB who will be earning $56.4M.
To me, there simply is no rationalization to bringing back the threesome of Kelly, McDaniel and Tua. All that says to me is that Stephen Ross, the Owner of the Miami Dolphins is too lazy and too busy with other projects to do the the right thing, and put forward a major effort to identify a proper list of NFL Executives from some of the aforementioned teams and start identifying the best executive to lead this team into the future with no handcuffs, if’s and’s or but’s. No, let’s go with the guy who failed twice for two poor teams and keep him because our mid QB who is BTW having his worst season as a pro RIGHT NOW, in realtime, right in front of your face, and you can see the decline in skills because you attend all the games and you SEE IT UP CLOSE.
STEPHEN ROSS – DO THE RIGHT THING! FIND A NEW GM (Not CHAMP KELLY)!!!

It’s official we hate the owner, the GM, and the HC!
LOL!!!!
UAB football players stabbed by teammate at team facility before game vs. South Florida, per reports
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/uab-football-players-stabbing-team-facility/
WTF?
At this point I question Ross’ desire to win if he’s not willing to clean the slate
I think Ross likes sitting in a football suite…lol
He says he wants a winning team, but really he just likes being noticed. ..lol
if they are going to blow it up and be 2-3 years out, they should trade Achane next spring.
That makes sense…NOT!!!!
By the time Miami is competitive after a rebuild, Achane will be past his prime. Any GM worth his paycheck can get a 1st round pick + for him now. Take the pick, save the money get a real NFL QB.
Haynes King having probably his worst ever game vs Pitt tonight. I would still give him a late round consideration. One bad game doesn’t define a player.
phish,
makes sense to me. I’d do the same with Waddle.
me too.
What a crazy game/stat line for the Notre Dame/Syracuse game.
ND wins 70-7 (49-0 at halftime).
ND only had 67 yards passing. Syracuse had more 1st downs than ND. TOP – Syracuse offense had the ball for 41:50, ND offense only had the ball for 18:10.
Syracuse is embarrassing this year. I’m embarrassed to say they’re one of my college teams. lol
So a question for you guys who know about contract stuff; Can we cut him for injury reasons, if say he took a hard blow to the head, that would be better for the team?
No, I don’t think so
Actually, I think remember reading that they took out an insurance policy for the eventuality. I’ll see if I can find it.
PP – You’re not wrong. We won’t be competitive with MM and Tua. It would make sense though to keep Achane if they do hire a new GM though
Achane is a rare talent. You keep players like him.
If you were going to be competitive, yes. But, due to Grier’s salary cap he’ll and dearth of talent, better to trade him and use the picks to build a team that is competitive.
Too bad Diego Pavia is Tua size if he is even at the listed 6′, 205. I like his game. He will be in this next draft.
Being a Vols fan, I have to say winning in Florida was a big deal today. We had lost 10 times in a row in the swamp.
Unfortunately Achane is the only player making this offense go at this time. Hes electric and turns shit plays into gains. Id hate to see him go, but I agree with getting max value for him now. This team isn’t doing anything with the QB and HC they have, the complete mess on OL and secondary.
That is going to take at least a year or 2 to recover, especially because of the dumb ass contract on the QB.
Achane is just 24 years old. Time is on his side! We need to keep young talent, not get rid of them!
He is a RB. An overused RB. He won’t be in his prime when and if Miami returns to being relevant.
Every running back brings value you don’t know how long it will take for Miami to turn things around, but one thing for sure. We have a top young running back that we need to hold onto I’m not buying into the talk of getting rid of him
Said it before, but I am really interested in where North Texas QB Drew Mestemaker will transfer to. I assume he will, but not for certain.
This is the kid who never started a high school varsity game and walked on to North Texas. His FIRST EVER start since on his high school freshman B team was in a bowl game last year after their QB left for the transfer portal. He did well that game considering his experience.
He’s 6’4, 214 and has a cannon with good accuracy. He has led North Texas to a 10-1 record completing over 70% for 3,469 yards, 26 TD’s and 4 INT’s. He has also rushed for 5 TD’s.
He’s a redshirt freshman so will be in that 2027 QB draft class if he decides to enter.
If he transfers and continues to play at a high level, he will be a top candidate in the future, starting in 2027. He would be wise to follow his HC Eric Morris wherever he goes.

This was a couple weeks ago.
You can get behind a kid like this!
Great Story!!!
I love that the Colts are kicking the Chiefs ass!
Colts up 11 in the 4th, just recovered the fumble, and could put the game away with a long scoring drive here.
Chiefs games have been fun this year, lol.
Colts💩🛏️
Watched the Stealers* @ Bears game earlier… very good game fought by both teams.
The damaged Tua really could have used a YAC cat like Jonnu Smith returning for us this season, and it’s not that he really had a great game today. But to me? You don’t trade Jonnu unless you somehow come away with Darnell Washington in return… I don’t care if it would have cost us an additional day 3 pick regarding the Ramsey & Jonnu trade for Minkah.
Ya can’t STOP Darnell Washington… you can only hope to contain him. He would spring Achane like NOBODY’S business, plus he’s too tall to defend against in the passing game… and he’ll get ya at least 5 yards after the catch with 3 defenders trying to tackle him.
BAD TRADE, IMO, on General Grief’s behalf. We wouldn’t need to deploy a ‘sixth O-Lineman’ if we had Darnell Washington.
What’s more… Darnell Washington could serve (as Christian Wilkins had) as a FB on specialty plays.
Patrick Ricard for the Ravens? Nah, Darnell Washington for the Phins would be even better.
We got to see the difference between the good teams and the bad ones today. The good ones found ways to win. The bad ones found ways to lose.
I agree with this, New Age.
sure, but teams like the Chiefs and Eagles get more than their share of calls
You win, people want to watch you to win or lose, the networks like it, because people have interest, and the league answers the networks’ orders to give preferential treatment
Don’t remember the favoritism ever being this bad college/pro
Utah got an outrageous call with about 3:30 left down 2 scores
Before that they got a PI picked up on a 2 pt conversion, that they intercepted and ran back for 2 pt. That 4 pt swing was the difference in the game
On a play where Utah substituted, they didn’t allow KSU’s players to get off the field, resulting in 12 players on the field on 4th and 1, that was short (play I mentioned above)
Its so obvious these fixes are in, yet when the players do it they get arrested
None more obvious, than the ones where the ref calls a first down on a measurement, when there’s distance between the football and the marker
Ah, man… regarding the proposition to trade Achane right now while he’s in his prime?
I feel as though I (though I obviously didn’t) personally drafted Achane. Not too many saw what I saw in Achane coming out of College Station… gotta give props to General Grief for that one, truly!
Color me as conflicted with bias toward Achane.
I think Phelon is ultimately correct… if we’re to be contenders again in 3 to 4 years, Achane is going to be past his prime… especially with all the wear and tear he’s going through as an all-purpose player now. It’s not like he’s the size of an Eddie George who can take the constant hits… Achane is a little guy, and he’s already suffered a concussion(s).
I hate, HATE, HATE to say it, but it may be wise to trade Achane while his value is certainly worthy of a 1st rounder right now.
I say the above as a wise, wanna-be, arm-chair NFL GM.
I feel like Golum/Smeagol, regarding the potential trade of Achane.
Now in my heart of hearts… do NOT trade Achane!!!
What realistically would the team get for Achane? You’re not getting a draft pick that’s worth losing the talent. It would have to be player for player and even that would be a tough trade to get max value IMO.
Hmmm… rational as always, SB7. VERY good take!
^
I misspoke the other day about the Eagles executive to bring to Miami. I mistakenly said Howie Roseman, when I meant to say Joe Banner. What do you guys think of him?
He’s in his 70’s now I believe. He’s been around a while for sure and knows a thing or two.
I was pretty sure you misspoke regarding Howie Roseman… all good.
Joe Banner? I’d have to do some deep research on him, but I think you’re looking in the right direction.
If I’m not mistaken, Joe Banner is the one who gave Roseman a second chance with the Eagles, after telling him to do research himself.
On its face? Yes… I think Joe Banner is a winner. But again, I need to research him with a deep dive.
It’s crazy how Howie Roseman damn near lost his job as GM of the Eagles. If it weren’t for Joe Banner, Roseman wouldn’t be who he is today.
F the Chiefs! Right back in it now.
I think you guys are overvaluing Achane a bit. Yes, he’s a good RB, but he’s not special. His speed is, but I’m not sold that he’s all that as a RB yet. I doubt you could get a first for him, and that’s why I don’t really think trading him makes a ton of sense. If you can get a first for him, take it. I think it’s likely he ends up hurt in the next 3 years. Plus, does this regime to come pay to retain him anyway if he ends up balling out and wants to get paid? Does he end up having to shift to WR as some thought he might as the wear and tear adds up? If teams start to focus on him, can he still produce?
These kinda things are always pure speculation but if the value is there, feel free to trade away anybody on this roster. The quickest way to rebuild your team is to get a lot of extra picks or to luck into a great QB.
how is anyone going to cover Achane from the slot? He’d be a nightmare for a D, don’t remember seeing him ever put there
Someone like Andy Reid could really take advantage
I could be wrong, but its not often enough, if they actually do play him there at times
MM has a huge mismatch right in front of him, yet he’s under utilized
Steelers game doesn’t seem like a sure loss any longer, 3 wins in the next 3 could be there for the taking
Romo said today 1 more Chiefs loss and they’re like out
What does that say for us?
there’s too many good teams well ahead of us, even if we win out we aren’t making the playoffs
wow! Was watching Phi vs Dal and Phi was getting all the calls uo 21-0, so I turned it off
Dal 24 Phi 21 Final
my opinion on Achane is you lock him up for a 4 yr extension ASAP
Even if you have to pay him 20m per yr, is Waddle making more than that more valuable? I think not
He’s the best receiving RB, so dual threat
If he gets hurt you’re still getting a great value
He could also transfer to WR
Why is it, that a guy like Davante Adams (11tds this yr) looked washed up with Raiders and Jets and now looks back to his old self? Is Stafford that good or his jets/Raiders QBs that bad?
How’s Saquon Barkley looking this year? RBs are still not guys I pay tons of money. Achane could be completely mediocre next year. He hasn’t proven a thing yet.
Romo said today 1 more Chiefs loss and they’re like out
What does that say for us?
——-
Chiefs have 4 Conferences losses. Four teams ahead of them in the WC race only have 2 conference losses and a 5th team (Bills) ahead of them have 3 Conference losses.
Chiefs will probably have to win out their 5 remaining AFC games. Though, all their tough remaining AFC games are at home vs Texans, Chargers and Broncos on Christmas Day.
Dolphins have 6 AFC losses. They are SOL.
Rams are tough.
they sure are hummin
Someone mentioned BB being HC of the Dolphins. That won’t happen. If he even leaves UNC, it will be for the HC job with the Giants.
he’s too old, his heart doesn’t seem to be in it any longer
Not a big fan of Baker, he does run the ball and pick his team up at times and carry them in 4th
We need a QB, that can allow us to play 11 on 11, not 10 on 11
Stafford doesn’t run, he has mastered reading a D and playing from the pocket, his crazy arm angled throws is special
BBM, found a new TE. Heard of him before but just now checking him out. He is a senior and is from Cologne, Germany.
He’s 6’6, 250 and runs around a 4.5, some say he is faster than that. That said, he seems to be a very good blocker who could develop as a receiving threat also.
#17
Dolphins aren’t making the playoffs. Don’t be surprised if the Saints beat us
Dolphins have 6 AFC losses. They are SOL.
Yeah, I did the math and said this a couple weeks ago
regardless, there are still some delusional fans foolishly rooting for worthless wins
Exactly, they are done

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I’d take Baker 11 times out of 10 over Tua. Boy has heart, I don’t think ours does
None of this really matters. The Dolphins are done, both in the division and for a Wild Card.
until they still have life in them, I’m going to believe I worry about things when they are totally eliminated and so far that has not happened
Keeping Hope alive!
Fans are fans. It’s okay to root for a team circling the drain. Have at it! I wish I felt that positive about this team.
All you need to do is believe 😊
Dolphins TE Darren Waller set to return to practice on Wednesday
Coming off their Week 12 bye, the Dolphins are getting a key offensive contributor back on the field this week.
Via multiple reporters, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday that tight end Darren Waller will have his 21-day practice window opened to return from injured reserve on Wednesday.
I believe – I believe it’s time to change it all up with this team
good beliefs, spot on Mike
I believe I agree.
I believe that I have lost patience with this organization and once proud franchise.
Pats just lost their starting LT and starting LG for at least a few games. Lets see how their QB does over the next couple of games.
Raiders fire OC Chip Kelly and his right hand man. Giants fired their DC. Chips are falling.
You can trade an HC to another team for draft picks. I wonder if you can trade an HC to another team for a lesser position, like from HC to OC.
Trade MM after the season to the Raiders to be their new OC.
Oddity in the schedule in that the last Dolphin road game was 10/26, there next road game is 12/6. Even though they travelled to Spain (Brazil).
Going by a couple sites and based on teams current needs and what they are losing to free agency, these are the top 2 needs by NFL teams going into Free agency and the draft. The top 3 position groups far out weigh the rest of the position groups in the team top 2 needs.
Edge, CB, WR, IOL, OT, QB, DT, TE, ILB, S, RB
This list has BBM leaning CB in the 1st. The Dolphins won’t be able to afford any top CB’s in free agency or any top players for that matter.
Because of Chubb and Tua on the roster for next year, the majority have Dolphins needs as CB, OL, TE, EDGE, S, QB, WR, LB. I am surprised none of them have TE higher than #3 need since Conyers is the only TE under contract next year.
I screwed that up. Top 2 teams needs starts out Edge, WR, CB,….
Looking at the 2026 free agents lists based on teams needs, it looks like WR is the weakest free agent group. I expect that WR will be hit hard in the first 3 rounds of the draft. Next weakest FA group will be at CB.
We should resign Jack Jones and draft a CB in the 1st.
^^^
BTW – They were talking about it on WQAM and I couldn’t agree more. Which draft picks that we have besides De’Von Achane are really impact players on this team right now? Can’t name one. By impact player, I mean a player that not only starts, but is among the best at what they do at their position.
I guess Waddle is the only other guy I can think of
I’d say Patrick Paul has potential to be amongst the best LT’s in the NFL
Jordyn Brooks? As far as the defense goes.
I don’t think we drafted him🤪
BBM can’t read. lol
BBM,
Interesting breakdown from your 6:33-6:49 PM posts above. I would also add that CB is one of the most skilled and highest paid positions in the game. In other words, to get an elite CB on a rookie deal is WINNING… as opposed to paying through the nose for an elite vet like Jalen Ramsey.
If we don’t see an elite CB in round 1, perhaps we could find an elite WR or EDGE in round 1… again, premium paid positions, just like CB, on a rookie deal.
I think(?) we’re all ruling out QB in the 1st round, unless Mendoza somehow falls to us. Of course, an elite QB is the grand-daddy WIN of them all on a rookie contract.
I agree with all the above
I believe General Grief at least TRIED to land elite CBs early. Problem is he whiffed far, far too often.
His only hit (early) was Xavien Howard (2nd round). Then ya have a history of misses like Iggy in the 1st round.
I think he eventually just gave up and swung for the fences via FA with Jalen Ramsey. That co$t us dearly in several ways.
Our new GM must be sure to HIT on the picks… not just draft for rookie contracts at premium positions. Talent must be the #1 ambition (as in, BPA at positions of need).
And I’m certain that between CB, WR, EDGE, and perhaps even RT (they make hella $$$ these days, too), we can find the best player between these positions.
Long story short: ya don’t just draft a CB for the sake of drafting a CB early. Draft the best player available among these positions… and we have a need at each of these positions.
General Grief didn’t seem to understand this.
I need to check on CB Jermod McCoy. I see he’s still going in the early 1st round (Tankathon has him currently going R1P12). If he’s deemed to be the REAL DEAL (that includes my own assessment), I’d have no problem drafting him in the 1st round.
But if there’s an even BETTER player available to us, gotta go with the BPA at a position of need.
Grief tried to build like baseball…..buy your way! He sucked at that too
YUP!
General Grief’s futility at drafting landed him in ‘$pending Anonymou$’. And who might have twisted his arm…. in order to WIN NOW?
His name rhymes with Reve Stoss.
Yep. Only hope is the next one knows how to evaluate talent and properly BUILD a team.
Maybe Ross will stay out of the way
Charlie Brown was clueless, not sure what he was trying to build
His interpretation on building a team was like the faces of supermodels, with a part of the face taken from each one, it came out looking lije Frankenstein
Mike’s boy Purdy playing like Tua with his 3rd int🤣
Beer to you, Steve!
😜
Asked my wife when they traded for Tua 😎
in Purdy’s defense, after he throws a pick his emotion doesn’t change
Tua after a pick is like Chicken Little
Brock Purdy just threw his 3rd INT of the evening in the 1st half…

Steve (or anybody else),
If you get the chance, watch this at halftime. This shouldn’t be considered ‘political’ (I don’t view it as political)… this should be considered a matter of JUSTICE, regardless of political affiliation.
I’m seething about this, man… as should every single person in the world, regarding Epstein… 😡
mind blowing, yet expected, I mean we know corruption runs wild in our country
Florida govt is filled with wasteful spending, they’re trying to remove property taxes for the owner occupied homes, all the politicians are fighting it, because their slush funds would take a hit
^^^
I truly hope DeSantis can remove property taxes. And should that come to fruition, I hope it catches like wildfire all across our fruited plain.
Talking SOLELY about private homeowners, not afforded to the likes of BlackRock… who continues to buy up every property they can get their hands on, in order to HAVE to rent to them.
missed call? Lol
They chose not to call the hold (PI) on the int
not insinuating they’re cheating, just saying😜
Personally, I wouldn’t draft McCoy in the first. I’m a big Vols fan, but he hasn’t played a single play this season. He was only injured in January, so that would be a big red flag not to use a 1st round pick on him. …But it would be a Grier thing to do.
I always found the best value for CBs and WRs are the second round. I would rather use a 1st on OL, DL(Edge too), or Caleb Downs. Though I think Downs will go before we pick.
Reading an article this morning, I realized why we don’t beat winning teams
Take us against the bills, not counting this year, when games got close bills went to a higher gear, we were already playing at that higher gear, just to stay close
Its not that Tua sucked, well he did but not the point, its that as a team we don’t have a bread and butter/consistent gear to kick into at winning time
Good teams have a higher gear, an identity, we need an identity, something that makes us good, with the game on the line
Bills have Allen run around picking up 1st downs with his legs or buying time outside the pocket
KC can do the same, Baltimore too
With Tua we can’t compete, because he doesn’t have that NFL trait, or some other trait to make him great at winning time
In 2023 we weee great on 1st and 2nd downs, but when the going got tough our 1st down pickup rate wasn’t good
Our next GM needs to create an identity, Ross’ interview team needs to ask questions about identity and vision
That’s part of what I was bringing up with our draft picks. Who are the impact players, guys that really impact, and can change a game with their play? So far, while some people are gushing over our draft (2025), Grant at best right now is barely a starter, Jonah would be on the bench on most teams, Phillips would be part of a DL rotation, same for Biggers. Marshall and Trader would be bench players. Ollie Gordon would probably have more playing time somewhere else but not sure if he would be an impact player. Ewers would probably be a backup at best, maybe 3rd string.
From last year, Chop is a disappointment, no doubt. Paul is clearly the best player, the rest are nada maybe with the exception of Jaylen Wright who would probably be putting up #2 RB numbers elsewhere.
From the ’23 it’s Achane and that’s all.
The ’22 draft is ALL GONE
’21 is Waddle and that’s the end of it, not including the 3rd RD pick we got for Phillips.
Sad state of affairs, which is also part of the reason why I’m going to lose my mind if they’re lazy and keep Champ Kelly. Stop settling, find the fucking best you can!
Steve – Tua has another level in the playoffs, it’s called CHOKE!
Rich, It is a tough call on Jermod McCoy. I was hoping he would be back this later half of the season. I wonder if he enters the draft or stays another year due to missing this season. I hate drafting a player after missing a whole season due to injury and you don’t know how well they recovered. If somehow he drops to our 2nd round pick, I would still take him. If he didn’t get injured, he would be a top 10 pick this next draft.
BBM, doesn’t really go BPA in the draft but BPA at only positions of need. Right now, I am looking at CB Mansoor Delane, RT Spencer Fano and Edge David Bailey as our 1st round pick unless someone falls to us.
M13, Duce Robinson’s 40 time projected at 4.65 still worries me for a WR.
he’s been good, but its everyone’s favorite Homer Ryder
I think you need to learn how to win….especially in a team sport. In individual sports talent can be way more impactful. Then, a person might just win on mostly pure talent but even then it usually comes down to learning what it takes to win against the best. 11 on 11 doesn’t work that way very often.
This team hasn’t learned how to win. They really aren’t close. First, you build a team, then you worry about results. Don’t jump past steps.

IF Duce actually runs a 4.65, then I’ll become concerned. Until then, projections don’t concern me.
However, I’d be lying if I said his lack of speed on tape doesn’t show at times. We’ll see what happens at the Combine. Perhaps his best playing weight is south of 220+.

…BBM, doesn’t really go BPA in the draft but BPA at only positions of need…
———–
EXACTLY. Same here, man!
In general I would say you guys are right about drafting, but I think this team seriously needs big impact players, and I think we should take them no matter what position they play. We passed Tyler Warren to get Kenny Grant, who may or may not ever be a good DL. Warren already is a weapon, and will be one his entire career.
Well, just like the last couple years, we seem to about have needs everywhere so…
M13, I was checking out Duce Robinson a little more. I was thinking if we aren’t able to resign Dulcich, but resign our blocking TE’s in Julian Hill and Rucci. I would draft a guy like Duce to be more of an “F” TE like Darren Waller. The “F” TE is basically a big slot receiver anyway. He grades ok as a blocker, probably better than Waller. You could line him up anywhere.
I believe you should always take BPA no matter the position or team-specific needs. When you don’t you are reaching for mediocrity. For instance, say you are strong at LB but weak at DB and when your pick comes the next Zach Thomas/Brian Urlacher is available. The worst that can happen is you add strength to an already strong unit and make it elite but if you pick a lesser player at DB because it is a team “need” the best you can hope for is making it average. And an elite LB corps will make your DBs better anyway.
Makes total sense.
The only players I would say are elite at their position in the 2026 draft are LB Arvell Reese, Safety Caleb Downs and TE Kenyon Sadiq.
phish,
I’m always a BPA/Need guy. BPA is always subjective anyway. It’s also a projection with every single player drafted and how my specific team can use that player. Plus, what if you have 3 guys at 3 different positions that are the same in terms of value/BPA? Is it BPA based on my needs?
I think it’s best to just keep an open mind and let the draft come to you. Don’t get stuck on any player or position.
On this team, they could go any direction as we have needs everywhere.
Damn I hate WordPress.
I had also said; just draft good players. That’s really what it comes down to.
That is the most important thing. Grier without a doubt always got pigeonholed into drafting NEED. He panicked and traded up for Jonah because we needed an OG. I’m so tired of that nonsense. We need a talent evaluator that picks guys who make a difference. I don’t think we got one guy in this past draft that will be anything more than an average starter at best.
BBM Post Week 12 Mock Draft (2 trade downs, favs went top 10)
22. David Bailey EDGE Texas Tech
41. Anthony Hill Jr. LB Texas
48. A.J. Haulcy S LSU
72. Brendan Sorsby QB Cincinnati
75. Michael Trigg TE Baylor
79. A.J. Harris CB Penn State
93. D’Angelo Ponds CB Indiana
110. Austin Barber OT Florida
117. Caleb Tiernan OT Northwestern
144. Cooper Barkate WR Duke
152. Carter Smith OT Indiana
207. Akheem Mesidor EDGE Miami (FL)
224. Bryce Foster OC Kansas
BBM is a draft pick hoarder. lol
OT’s Barber and Tiernan can play either side. Carter Smith can probably play anywhere on the OL. Bryce Foster can play anywhere on the inside.
WR Cooper Barkate reminds me of a Cooper Kupp. Not just because of the first name either. lol
Bailey, Hill, and Haulcy would be an incredible, not to mention Harris and Ponds in the late 3rd… I also like the OTs in Barber and Tiernan. On paper, that’s an A+ draft.

You won me over with “the next Zach Thomas/Brian Urlacher”. LOL
I believe this method of drafting is quite rational, when kept within reason.
For instance, IF I already had prime Zach Thomas and prime Brian Urlacher as my ILBs in a 3-4 Defense (I know they both played MLB in a 4-3 Defense, just play along with this scenario), there’s no way I’m drafting another ILB early, even if he’s the BPA on the board. 2 birds in the hand (Zach and Brian) are worth 4 in the bush, and we have holes/weaknesses to fill.
Aside from that type of instance, I’ve got no problem with the pure BPA method you describe… other than it may take a longer period of time to fill holes and replace weaknesses. But that may be alright, so long as you get a STUD who is a game-changer.
There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and the BPA method is certainly one of them.
Personally, I’m a BPA at position of need dude… within reason (everything must be within reason).
So let’s say we’re picking @ R1P10 in the next Draft, and the BPA is ‘x’ (don’t need ‘x’) but my position of need is ‘y’, and ‘x’ is rated higher than ‘y’.
First off, ‘y’ had BETTER BE a 1st round talent! Okay, he is, so follow along…
I’d trade down from R1P10 to let’s say R1P15, where ‘y’ is approximately slated to go… I’ll get another pick(s) back, and I still get the BPA at a position of need who is rated HIGHLY (not a slouch).
Now IF that BPA meshes with a position of need (player ‘y’), but isn’t slated to go until the 2nd round? NO, I’m not trading out of the 1st round just to get ‘y’ in the 2nd round, of course! That would be crazy and reckless. At that point, I’m going pure BPA, for sure (again, within reason).
And remember… I got a pick(s) back for trading down slightly from R1P10. I now may be able to trade up on day 2 and get another stud who otherwise may have been drafted before we could draft. This offers some flexibility.
This method is another way to skin a cat, and thankfully, General Grief is no longer here to trade up for another bum.
In order to move up and down during the Draft, one had BETTER have conviction, intelligence (on the player), and a great sense of the room (other teams and what they may do)… if you will.
General Grief too often read the room wrong, panicked, traded up, and over-drafted players who simply filled a hole. We LOST draft picks by doing this.
Gotta know the ledge if one is to play that game.
Juice (The Ledge) – Rakim
Starts @ the 5:40 timestamp above…
General Grief didn’t know the ledge.
M – So let’s say a generational WR with a 7.1 grade is there at #12 when we pick, and the 3rd best RT is there at #12, with a 6.5 grade, you’re taking the RT? That’s what got us into this mess in the first place. Get great players, the rest will take care of itself
As I stated, EVERYTHING must be in reason. Unless we already have two All-Pro or Pro-Bowl boundary WRs, in this instance, one OBVIOUSLY takes the WR.
A RT with a 6.5 grade is NOT 1st round material… I already addressed that above: clear over-draft and ya can’t do that.
This what I stated…
“Now IF that BPA meshes with a position of need (player ‘y’), but isn’t slated to go until the 2nd round? NO, I’m not trading out of the 1st round just to get ‘y’ in the 2nd round, of course! That would be crazy and reckless. At that point, I’m going pure BPA, for sure (again, within reason).”
In Layman’s terms: NEVER overdraft for a position of need. That’s a great way to fail a draft class. NEVER draft a 2nd rounder in the 1st round to fill a position of need. And NEVER draft a player one doesn’t have conviction about.
What I AM sayin’?
If we’re picking @ R1P12, and there are similar grades on player ‘x’ and ‘y’ (both 1st round-worthy players), I’d rather go with the position of need.
If we can slightly trade down to get what we need (a SOLID MFer) and get an additional pick(s), that’s a SMOOTH OPERATOR.
And now I must post this!
It ultimately comes down to team grades (their scouting department and GM) regarding the BPA when it’s time to select.
In what world did our ’07 Phins exist when they selected Ted Ginn (and his family) over Patrick Willis, for example?!!
MikeE, with this current roster, if there was a “generational” talent at WR when we pick I am taking him.
Every Draft is different and this one lacks elite generational talent. I don’t see us being in that situation this go around. We need some new starters but need depth everywhere except RB. This draft, if we go strictly BPA, we will still be filling a need.
Free agency usually impacts the draft. That won’t be the dolphins case in 2026 because they won’t have the money to sign any difference makers. After the first wave of free agency, I don’t see where anything will change. We will still have the same needs just about everywhere.
^
I don’t think Mike E was saying that there IS generational talent at WR in this upcoming Draft, he was just trying to make a point.
Yeah, I realize that. I was just trying to take his point and apply it to the situation we will be in come 2026 with our needs everywhere, lack of money and lack of elite talent in the draft.
I think our #1 need is CB. I didn’t take one until the mid 3rd round. Many of my picks were BPA. That’s how I ended up taking 4 OL. The only picks I made not BPA were QB Sorsby and TE Trigg.
M – Actually Will Campbell, the top LT in this past draft, and a pretty damn good one was a 6.44 Grade. It doesn’t matter, I think where we’re at right now is that we have a lot of people on the roster, but 1 difference maker, and that’s Achane. Waddle is good, but he doesn’t make the impact Achane does. On defense, we haven’t drafted one player in Grier’s tenure that was really a difference maker, perhaps with the exception of MFFF, but he screwed that up for us because he didn’t like being a utility player.
Brother Mike E,
I must remind you that beauty is in the eye of the beholder… and that’s one of life’s TRUTHS. Will Campbell’s 6.44 grade was written by one man (probably my guy Lance Zierlein).
LUV Lance, but that’s just one guy’s opinion. Every team has different grades on players, of course.
Personally? I would have graded Will Campbell at LEAST at 7.0. JMO
I hear ya man, and you’re absolutely right about the grades teams have on players will differ from Lance Zierlein’s
Mike E,
Here’s another thing: know why 32 teams have different grades on the same prospect? The prospect must fit into their system of operation.
Ya don’t draft a stiff, limited OG when trying to draft for an OBS system.
Ya don’t draft a zone CB when trying to draft for a man-to-man CB.
Ya don’t draft a downhill RB when trying to get a zone-read RB.
And the list goes on…
I know ya get it, my man! Just trying to drive the point home.
So at the end of the day, the so-called ‘BPA’ may not be a system-fit for the team. That’s when ya try to trade down.
NEVER over-draft a player, just because of need.
And NEVER draft a player because he’s the so-called ‘BPA’… he may not even fit your system.
Now if he fits your system, DRAFT HIM!
If you’re not on the ledge, you’re taking up too much space!
Yessir! I concur!
I concur with you like HELL YEAH!!! Your post resonates with me in many, many ways.
Within reason, of course!
Thanks for the Rakim post. Man I miss the 90s scene.
