2025 Season – Game 13 – Dolphins @ Jets

The Miami Dolphins pursuit of a playoff berth continues! Still alive! I know some of you can laugh along with me as I picture the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Yep, that’s our Dolphins still alive and fighting for a practically unattainable playoff berth. It’s basically a 1% chance at the moment, and that’s ONLY if the Dolphins run the table, winning the next 5 games against the Jets, Steelers, Bengals, Buccaneers and then the season finale against the New England Patriots. You know how we discuss here (on social media) how social media is ruining this country, world, society, or all of the above? You know what it’s ruining for me? Being a fan of the Miami Dolphins. Dolphins fan brethren spending time belittling the New England Patriots and their sterling 11-2 record. Making light of their schedule (practically the same damn schedule we play save for 3 games. They played the Titans, we played the Colts. They played the Giants, we played the Commanders and then they played the Raiders while we played the Chargers. Just a big fat reminder, we’re 5-7 and they’re 11-2. Stop being a pussy and belittle a team that has righted themselves, potentially have found their franchise QB and actually built a strong roster unlike just filling the roster with players like Grier did for years here. Sorry Markey, he will never get a front line Exec job in the NFL again, certainly nothing in the vein of being in control of player/personnel. I know, sometimes reality sucks, but it’s still reality.

Then there’s the amazingly large group of Dolphins fans still either with an allegiance to our current starting QB Tua Tagovailoa, or those that just think because he’s making a gazillion dollars next season that he MUST be our starting QB, both now and in 2026. For the millionth time, that money is spent just the same whether he plays or sits and gets splinters on the bench. If we do what must be done, we will draft a QB next season and that QB will have a fair opportunity to seize the starting job. Why, you may ask? This is Tua’s 6th season, and 4th such season with the same Head Coach and offensive system. He’s worse than ever, but somehow he’s going to get better next season? All we need to do is. fix the O-line and get stronger on defense and give him better receivers and blah blah blah. We’ve been hearing that same old tired shit for far too long. You can’t build a perfect team for a tin man with no oil in sight, scarecrow with no available heart, or a cowardly lion with no courage. Tua is all 3 characters in one. He moves like a 60 year old, and at 62, I think I could give Tua a run for his money both in a footrace and throwing the ball downfield. He has no courage, that went out the window with his last concussion or hip injury, doesn’t matter. He routinely comes up short when we need him to do more. His brain just might be scrambled eggs, because sometimes you wonder what he’s thinking, or IF he’s thinking. One second a defender is in hot pursuit of him and he forgets he’s there and gets taken down for a silly looking sack. He runs towards the first down marker and then goes into his slide about a yard and a half early and comes up short. You would think “The Frajeel” practices doing that 1,000,000 times in practice because he does it so often in the game.

Anyway, the charade continues and I guess in some way, our final record this season will determine what action or inaction this front office will make. Winning a few meaningless game and either getting closer to .500 or perhaps miraculously surpassing .500 by going 9-8 shouldn’t make this front office think that everything is alright. If you’ve seen Goodfellas “It’s not alright Spider!!!” It’s not. Don’t waste another precious season and draft class and free agency trying to get this team perfect for Tua and Mike McDaniel. Please, I beg of you. If somehow we manage to make the playoffs, I can almost assure you we will be in for a supreme ass kicking from whichever team we should play. I would actually love it if it were the New England Patriots who many Dolphins disparage as playing a weak schedule. How fitting would that be if they put up a shutout like maybe 30-0 on us? If that were the turning point that made us abandon “calling” our poker hand and staying the same for 2026, then so be it.

At this point in time, I can agree with Markey that firing Chris Grier was just a move to give unhappy fans a sacrifice. I hope they’re not fooled by these narrow margin victories against uninspired teams like the Commanders and the Saints. I swear if they sat Achane for a game we’d really see just how pathetic this offense can be. He does it all, and is producing on his own here. He’s been unbelievable, finding creases, breaking tackles not with brute physicality, but with elusiveness not seen here since Reggie Bush. This offense would be toast, just like our QB. Mike McDaniel sees the writing on the wall, and he’s literally going to run Achane into the ground to try and keep winning. Achane probably doesn’t mind either, the more touches he gets, the more $$$$$ he’s going to get either in the offseason or during next season (if we’re smart), or if we’re stupid, in Free Agency in 2027. Either way, this is only boosting his future paycheck.

So this week we travel to New Joisey to play the Jets who probably don’t care about this game any more than I do. I know and understand that some of you just want to beat the Jets no matter what and I feel ya, but I truly couldn’t care less. I will feel zero joy with a win, or loss. I guess maybe a bit more joy with a loss because it would end the nonsensical “playoff run”. Once that’s over, maybe the big boys will actually start evaluating what to do for 2026, and hopefully, that includes compiling a list of NFL Execs from a bunch of good organizations with winning culture. I mean it’s been 25 years + since we’ve won a playoff game, you think it’s high time to find the right GM to build a winner, instead of settling for a guy you hired and then elevated to interim GM that came from two losing organizations (Bears and Raiders), AND, neither of the two hired him as GM. If he wasn’t good enough for them, and they saw him firsthand, WHY ON EARTH IS HE GOOD ENOUGH FOR US?

Even if they were to win all remaining games, their odds only increase to approximately 18-20%, depending on the specific scenario and which other teams they need to lose. Their poor head-to-head record against other wild card contenders and their current record makes a playoff berth highly improbable

“All we need to do is. fix the O-line and get stronger on defense and give him better receivers and blah blah blah”

They need to do this for the team regardless of who the quarterback is. Until we do that, our team is going to be the same old “will they or won’t they make the playoffs” team we’ve been for decades.

Anyone talk with Son lately? I was just watching some old Kam Chancellor highlights and realized I hadn’t seen him post recently.

I texted back and forth with him in October. He has been having a tough time. His mom passed away, he had shoulder replacement surgery in June, his brother had a stroke. He said that he’s been reading along, but, He’s been having the same log in issues that some of us have had and just didn’t feel the urge to figure out the problem to pile on to our negativity. LOL Other than that he said he’s been doing fine. He is going to the Bucs game on 12/28.

SB – Of course, but my point is that there are some people that think if we get a good O-line and a better defense, that Tua is all of a sudden going to become Joe Burrow, or even Baker Mayfield. He’s never going to be a difference maker, at best a decent game manager if everything is perfect around him. Said it 1000X, I’ll say it again, AIM HIGHER!!!!

  10. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

AI answered my question: Why Is Tua Struggeling?

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s 2025 season struggles are attributed to a combination of his own inconsistent play and a system that defenses have effectively countered, compounded by injuries to key offensive personnel

Key factors contributing to his struggles:

    • Inconsistent Performance: Tagovailoa has acknowledged that he is not playing to his usual standard this season. His accuracy, previously a strength, has declined, and he leads the NFL in interceptions with 14. He has also had seven games in the 2025 season where he failed to reach 200 passing yards.
    • Defensive Adjustments: Opposing teams have adjusted their strategies, primarily by employing more two-deep safety zone coverage (Cover 2) to neutralize Miami’s speed-based offense, forcing Tagovailoa to hold the ball longer and making it harder to find open receivers. This scheme was highly effective against bad defenses but has struggled against more disciplined teams.
    • Lack of Mobility: Tagovailoa’s limited mobility and inability to consistently evade pressure in the pocket have become a hindrance when plays break down or the initial reads are covered. This is further complicated by offensive line issues.
    • Offensive Personnel Changes/Injuries: The Dolphins’ offense has been impacted by significant injuries to key players, including wide receiver Tyreek Hill (season-ending knee injury) and starting offensive linemen. This has disrupted the rhythm and chemistry of the passing game.
    • Psychological Factors & Concussion History: Some speculation suggests that Tagovailoa may be hesitant and protecting himself in the field due to his history of multiple concussions, which is an understandable concern for his long-term health. His demeanor in interviews has also appeared less confident and composed.
    • Contract Pressure and Leadership: Tagovailoa is playing on a significant contract extension, which brings added pressure to perform as a franchise quarterback and difference-maker. Early in the season, he drew attention and some backlash for publicly calling out teammates for being late to meetings, an issue he later apologized for
  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    That’s terrible:

Lions safety Brian Branch suffered torn Achilles in win over Cowboys

Looks like we will get Tyrod Taylor and Brady Cook

Justin Fields has some knee soreness and will be ruled out for Sunday’s game versus the Dolphins, head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters.

  13. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s funny to me how Tua stans used to put up stats all the time. Now the ones that do put up stats from 2022-2024. Irrelevant! What he is now is the most imperative because this is what he IS, I don’t care what he WAS. Even if you want to be generous, as I’ve pointed out so many times, since the end of the 2023 season, his magical season, he was not the same player he was most of the season. Even in his best season he just barely had a 2:1 TD:INT ratio. With the opportunity to take the division crown, 2 TD’s, 2 INT’s against Baltimore, and then at home in our house, against Buffalo so we wouldn’t have to travel to KC and freeze, 1 TD, 2 INT’s. I just wish people could digest that he isn’t it. He never was, never will be. He got his money, he turned off the magic and went into “safe mode”. Put up his stats this season which is what you can expect next season.

The sadder part of the story is if you took away RB De’Von Achane, we probably don’t win a game this season. He has become easily the most important player on the offense, the team, and our $55M Qb is holding us back. I pray that after we lose our next game, they sit Tua and play Ewers to see what he can do. I don’t care if he sucks as bad as Tua, let’s see it!

    Mike E. diagnosis:

The most common formal word for an extremely negative person is pessimist. A pessimist is someone who always expects the worst outcome in any given situation.

Other words to describe an extremely negative person, depending on the specific “flavor” of their negativity, include:

    Formal Terms

    • Cynic: A person who has a sneering disbelief in sincerity or integrity and questions people’s motives, often implying a general distrust of human nature.
    • Misanthrope: A person who generally hates, dislikes, or distrusts the human species, human behavior, or human nature as a whole.
    • Naysayer: Someone who frequently expresses negative or pessimistic views and says something won’t work or is impossible.
    • Defeatist: A person who anticipates failure or is too ready to accept it.
    • Nihilist: A person who rejects all meaning in life, morality, and traditional beliefs, believing that nothing at all seems to matter.

    Informal/Colloquial Terms

    • Debbie Downer/Negative Nancy: Common informal, often pejorative, terms for a person who is excessively and disagreeably pessimistic or makes others feel bad.
    • Killjoy or Spoilsport: A person who deliberately spoils the enjoyment or fun of others with their attitude or complaints.
    • Downer: A person or thing that has a depressing or negative effect on others.
    • Wet blanket: A person who dampens enthusiasm or pleasure, like a wet blanket on a cheerful campfire.
    • Curmudgeon: A bad-tempered or surly person.

The best term to use depends on the specific nature and context of the person’s negativity.

Would you like to know more about the psychology behind why people develop extremely negative attitudes, or perhaps tips on how to effectively communicate with a persistently negative person?

Yes, they have been awful but a win is a win and until they lose I KEEP HOPE ALIVE!

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I agree with Markeyh that there have been some reasons for hope. We were the worst team in the league against the run early, so bad we are still ranked very low, but they have shown huge improvement in that department over the past few games. We have also been running the ball MUCH better than the start of the year. Improvements that do give me hope.

But they fucked it up, again, and that again was like the 20th again and I have no patience for any more agains.

I am so tired of half measures, and it’s worse because we took the public beating and ridicule for tanking and they fucked up that opportunity. That rebuild had such possibility

Now they have committed to substantial change, I just want them to commit fully to it.

      No more half measures

  24. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Nebraska RB Emmitt Johnson is one of the first underclassmen to declare for the draft. He’s a good all-purpose RB with 1860 total yards and 15 total TD’s in 2025.

We don’t need a RB but it will help us in that he will be a 3rd rounder at the latest. He will be BPA/need for some other team who won’t select a player we want/need.

    Tua Better than Marino?

The Dolphins hold the all-time series edge 62–57–1, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (who owns a 6-0 mark against New York as a starter) is even better than Dan Marino (gasp!), who was 17-13 in that department. But here’s the thing — Tagovailoa is 0-7 in his career when the temperature at kickoff is 46 degrees or colder, and Sunday’s high temperature at the stadium is only expected to reach the low 40s.

  34. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

The Miami Dolphins defense has been helping to carry the team during their current three-game winning streak. They’ve held the Bills, Commanders, and Saints under 20 points in their three wins with eight sacks and seven takeaways in those matchups. This week, they’ll face the Jets, who have been one of the top 10 matchups in the NFL for opposing D/ST. Tyrod Taylor has taken over at QB, and the offense has been a little better the last few weeks, but it’s still a favorable matchup for the Dolphins D this week. The Jets have allowed multiple sacks in four straight weeks, with four turnovers and a defensive touchdown allowed. In a favorable matchup with their current momentum, the Dolphins check in as the No. 5 DST in RotoBaller’s Week 14 rankings, making them a strong start in most leagues this week.

Realistically, these guys have all played football in those elements. It will be about playing the Jets and it won’t be about playing the cold.”

  38. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I like that Weaver has helped turn the defense around a bit. Yes, we’ve been playing some lousy teams, but they are still playing better. I’m still pulling for him to be HC in a few years . I think he brings the toughness and leadership we all want in our coach.

I took that as when someone fucks up and says “My bad” but you can tell they don’t really mean it.

  40. Randy's avatar Randy says:

MM needs to adjust the passing game to compliment the running game. More play action. Can Tua even do play action? RPO is out with him at QB. Stop worrying about the passing game getting theirs and focus on using your productive running game to set up your passing game. 25 throws a game is just fine. Play more of a possession game.

  41. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Saw a video on draft risers, fallers and others. It was long and boring so not posting it.

Under the others, there was an interesting take on QB Nussmeier. They think he could be a day 3 draft steal if taken by the right team with the right coaching. They went in depth on how now former LSU coach Brian Kelly ruined him over the last year and a half, screwing up his head and how he plays. Thought is was interesting.

  42. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I don’t watch OL play during the game. Maybe on the replay. I can’t help notice Brewer catch my eye during a game. He is fun to watch and love seeing a smaller guy like him put people on the ground. He’s a dog!

  43. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Timing is going to play a big role in whether Weaver gets a HC job here or not. Keeping Champ Kelly and MM next season will not help the chances of Weaver being the HC here. After next season is another failure, even if MM gets fired and Weaver takes over on an interim basis, a new GM will come in and clean house entirely, as he should and bring in his own HC

  45. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I have to take it back. Ryder is being a complete homer with Brewer. lol Notice he didn’t show a single man-on-man play where Brewer was asked to put his hands on a guy and move him. I mean literally move him…displace the defender. Not one.

Here’s the thing with Brewer. He’s the perfect sort of center to play with Achane. Achane has learned to hit a hole fast and where he makes his move is really at the second level….where you have a quick center making a key block for you. Great. Works.

When it’s push that is needed…not quickness or a second level block….things aren’t nearly as rosy. Jason Kelce played with power too.

The video was very myopic. I’ll just leave it at that. Lol

And, I am fine with Brewer. I’m just not sure he’s an all pro. You guys did the same thing with Seiler. Pretty good player but not great…not more than a B guy.

  46. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I’m not ripping on Ryder. He can do whatever he likes, of course, and he’s not wrong in what he’s saying.

I have said this with regard to Jonah too. When you make a decision to have your center regularly getting to the second level, it leaves huge gaps in the interior of your OL that guards are expected to control. It makes playing guard much more difficult and gives DCs things to exploit.

  49. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I very rarely listen to WFAN in NY, but Chris McGonagle was the host, and was disputing the whole “winning culture” thing regarding winning games over losing and getting better draft position. His argument was an excellent one. Winning culture doesn’t carry over from one season to the next, and he gave 4 examples, I think I remember 3. The Bears lost 10 of 11 to finish out the ’24 season and are now 9-3. The Patriots lost 7 of 10 last season and are now 11-2. The Commanders won 7-10 last season and are now 3-9. Getting things right in your organization is the most important thing of all. Mike McDaniel getting us to 8-9 or 9-8 don’t mean shit for next season because he’s not the guy to get this team where it needs to be, the QB we have isn’t either. Make the right changes in the organization and you have a chance.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

that’s right.Up there with the stupidest things i’ve ever read

winning games at the end of the season is not winning culture, it’s just winning games at the end of the season

KC, Buffalo, and Balt have winning culture, their teams know how to win year after year

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

winning games at the end of a bad season is more about individual play, especially in young players

it also helps with FAs the next year

with a dufus HC like MM, he’s finally changed his ways. Using a 6th OL has helped the run game and will translate to 2026

  51. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I think I admitted it on a text to Mike E, but I’m going to admit it on the blog here as well I was wrong about picking up Aaron Brewer. I judged him on a couple years of poor past protection with that is a beast for an undersized player

  52. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

TEN, WAS, NYG, CIN and possibly even CLE may not draft QB’s. The Raiders, Saints, Jets and Cardinals will definitely be drafting QB’s.

  53. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I think he’s totally right though. Winning a few games at the end of the season doesn’t mean you’ve established anything for the next season. Especially to those teams that are out of the playoffs, there’s no pressure, it doesn’t mean anything. If we win 9 games, and MM and Tua are still here, do you think we’re going to be a odds on favorite to win our division? To win 8 games or more? Probably not on either

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      agreed

Just like last year we went on a run late, that meant nothing for this year

disagree with his wording of culture

  54. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

watched an old baseball highlight last night. They had a guy on second and third one out deep fly ball, both runners tag up the guy that scored left early. They knew they were going to appeal which would have made him out.So before they appealed, the guy from third starts walking home. And they get him in a rundown and tag him out.Since that play occurred after the other play, they weren’t able to go back and appeal. So the run scores, they did it on purpose

who knew such a rule existed

  56. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I do think teams and players need to learn how to win big games and that starts by winning in general. I think it can carry over from year to year if the winning is happening because you’re consistently doing the little things it takes to win games in the first place. That’s set by both the coaching staff and the players. When those practices and habits that lead to winning games become engrained in your culture, it becomes a winning one.

Turnover in personnel has changed that these days a little but I still think it matters. Do we have that sort of leadership at all levels? I’m not sure.

  57. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Watched most of the TT/BYU game. I was not that impressed with Edge David Bailey. He makes plays when they are there and he has piled up big stats. The rest of the time, if he doesn’t win immediately in his pass rush, he just almost gives up. He seems to lack a motor and didn’t pursue on other plays.

Doesn’t seem like a top 20 pick to me.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

If we don’t go QB or have a chance to get Caleb Downs, the best approach is trading out of the top 20 imo. Picking up another 2nd rounder would be more valuable than picking around the 10-12 th pick…

  58. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I hear ya on the word culture. I guess what he was saying winning a few games at the end of the season isn’t a culture, it’s just winning a few games.

In all honesty, I’m not trying to talk about politics here. But as it pertains to the Jan 6th, 2020 pipe-bombing case? There’s a reason the former administration chose not to prosecute.

This country has become horrifically saddening in terms of justice.

Keep the name KJ Duff in the back of your mind for the next year or two. I watched Rutgers game against Penn St., and he was an absolute stud. 6’5”, good hands, looked to be a decent route runner. I wouldn’t be surprised if he entered the portal to get on a better team.

I was talking to my wife this morning after listening to Mark Malusis on WFAN break down our game. I have no excitement whatsoever about this game, or this team, there is nothing. It’s like there is just zero to look forward to. I really miss being hyped up to watch a Dolphins game but I just can’t. I never hated the Jets, Bills or Patriots (Ok I think I hated the Patriots) as much as y’all do, but now I find I hate all those teams less. I don’t begrudge the Bills for getting Josh Allen, or begrudge the Patriots for rebuilding and bringing in better people to run their organization and Coach their team. I do, however begrudge and hate our team for NOT doing those things, and seeming as if they’re going to continue to NOT do it by potentially keeping interim GM Champ Kelly and HC Mike McDaniel. Every team in our division has a chance to improve significantly next season. Jets are loaded with picks and cap space the next 2 seasons, the Patriots have already turned it around and now just need to build on it, and the Bills while they have definitely taken a step back still have Josh Allen and need to hit on players in the upcoming draft and pick up a couple of key players. We’re in cap hell, have the spectre of Tua returning as our starting QB, and very little cap space to work with. Why the fuck can’t they get their heads out of their asses and try and fix this organization?
