2025 Season – Game 13 – Dolphins @ Jets

The Miami Dolphins pursuit of a playoff berth continues! Still alive! I know some of you can laugh along with me as I picture the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Yep, that’s our Dolphins still alive and fighting for a practically unattainable playoff berth. It’s basically a 1% chance at the moment, and that’s ONLY if the Dolphins run the table, winning the next 5 games against the Jets, Steelers, Bengals, Buccaneers and then the season finale against the New England Patriots. You know how we discuss here (on social media) how social media is ruining this country, world, society, or all of the above? You know what it’s ruining for me? Being a fan of the Miami Dolphins. Dolphins fan brethren spending time belittling the New England Patriots and their sterling 11-2 record. Making light of their schedule (practically the same damn schedule we play save for 3 games. They played the Titans, we played the Colts. They played the Giants, we played the Commanders and then they played the Raiders while we played the Chargers. Just a big fat reminder, we’re 5-7 and they’re 11-2. Stop being a pussy and belittle a team that has righted themselves, potentially have found their franchise QB and actually built a strong roster unlike just filling the roster with players like Grier did for years here. Sorry Markey, he will never get a front line Exec job in the NFL again, certainly nothing in the vein of being in control of player/personnel. I know, sometimes reality sucks, but it’s still reality.

Then there’s the amazingly large group of Dolphins fans still either with an allegiance to our current starting QB Tua Tagovailoa, or those that just think because he’s making a gazillion dollars next season that he MUST be our starting QB, both now and in 2026. For the millionth time, that money is spent just the same whether he plays or sits and gets splinters on the bench. If we do what must be done, we will draft a QB next season and that QB will have a fair opportunity to seize the starting job. Why, you may ask? This is Tua’s 6th season, and 4th such season with the same Head Coach and offensive system. He’s worse than ever, but somehow he’s going to get better next season? All we need to do is. fix the O-line and get stronger on defense and give him better receivers and blah blah blah. We’ve been hearing that same old tired shit for far too long. You can’t build a perfect team for a tin man with no oil in sight, scarecrow with no available heart, or a cowardly lion with no courage. Tua is all 3 characters in one. He moves like a 60 year old, and at 62, I think I could give Tua a run for his money both in a footrace and throwing the ball downfield. He has no courage, that went out the window with his last concussion or hip injury, doesn’t matter. He routinely comes up short when we need him to do more. His brain just might be scrambled eggs, because sometimes you wonder what he’s thinking, or IF he’s thinking. One second a defender is in hot pursuit of him and he forgets he’s there and gets taken down for a silly looking sack. He runs towards the first down marker and then goes into his slide about a yard and a half early and comes up short. You would think “The Frajeel” practices doing that 1,000,000 times in practice because he does it so often in the game.

Anyway, the charade continues and I guess in some way, our final record this season will determine what action or inaction this front office will make. Winning a few meaningless game and either getting closer to .500 or perhaps miraculously surpassing .500 by going 9-8 shouldn’t make this front office think that everything is alright. If you’ve seen Goodfellas “It’s not alright Spider!!!” It’s not. Don’t waste another precious season and draft class and free agency trying to get this team perfect for Tua and Mike McDaniel. Please, I beg of you. If somehow we manage to make the playoffs, I can almost assure you we will be in for a supreme ass kicking from whichever team we should play. I would actually love it if it were the New England Patriots who many Dolphins disparage as playing a weak schedule. How fitting would that be if they put up a shutout like maybe 30-0 on us? If that were the turning point that made us abandon “calling” our poker hand and staying the same for 2026, then so be it.

At this point in time, I can agree with Markey that firing Chris Grier was just a move to give unhappy fans a sacrifice. I hope they’re not fooled by these narrow margin victories against uninspired teams like the Commanders and the Saints. I swear if they sat Achane for a game we’d really see just how pathetic this offense can be. He does it all, and is producing on his own here. He’s been unbelievable, finding creases, breaking tackles not with brute physicality, but with elusiveness not seen here since Reggie Bush. This offense would be toast, just like our QB. Mike McDaniel sees the writing on the wall, and he’s literally going to run Achane into the ground to try and keep winning. Achane probably doesn’t mind either, the more touches he gets, the more $$$$$ he’s going to get either in the offseason or during next season (if we’re smart), or if we’re stupid, in Free Agency in 2027. Either way, this is only boosting his future paycheck.

So this week we travel to New Joisey to play the Jets who probably don’t care about this game any more than I do. I know and understand that some of you just want to beat the Jets no matter what and I feel ya, but I truly couldn’t care less. I will feel zero joy with a win, or loss. I guess maybe a bit more joy with a loss because it would end the nonsensical “playoff run”. Once that’s over, maybe the big boys will actually start evaluating what to do for 2026, and hopefully, that includes compiling a list of NFL Execs from a bunch of good organizations with winning culture. I mean it’s been 25 years + since we’ve won a playoff game, you think it’s high time to find the right GM to build a winner, instead of settling for a guy you hired and then elevated to interim GM that came from two losing organizations (Bears and Raiders), AND, neither of the two hired him as GM. If he wasn’t good enough for them, and they saw him firsthand, WHY ON EARTH IS HE GOOD ENOUGH FOR US?

    seems like a preseason game

Tua I see has stopped talking for retirement

21 – 0 in the first quarter the Dolphins are looking really good

  15. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

JACK JONES has COMPLETELY reinvented his career, getting in there on a run-stuff!

  16. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

  17. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Jets get a TD put return

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Jets seem a little more interested. Kinda like our team became mote interested in the season about 7 games too late

  19. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

what happened to Dolphin killer Tyrod? Did he get hurt?

  20. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Man, JACK JONES has become a serious defender in the run-game! He was even in there for the muffed snap under Center.

  21. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Jets defensive players dropping like flys!😱

  22. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IMO, if somehow Anthony Weaver is retained as our DC, ya bring back both Jack Jones and Rasul Douglas. And, draft a CB early (as in, within day 2 of the Draft).

  23. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

that’s the Tua we’ve been accustomed to

  24. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Ollie Gordon should have done more on that sack of Tua.

  25. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    JACK JONES is EVERYWHERE!!!

  26. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

thru 5.5 qtrs against us the jets have been a train wreck

  27. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike E,

I hate that you’re not even enjoying beating the Jets but I’m enjoying it so far. The reality of our situation is that McD is fighting for his job so he’ll do everything he can to win. Our players are fighting for him and as bad a Grier was there were far worse GMs out there.

So, we weren’t ever going to lose every game or go 3-14 or worse. The Saints, Jets, Titans, Raiders, Giants and Cardinals are all worse teams. The Browns, Commanders, Vikings and Falcons are all comparably bad this year.

That means no gamechanging QB early in the draft so how were we going to find the Tua replacement next year? We just aren’t. Now, if they want to use an early pick on Sellers or another really raw pick and just go for broke and hope he’s the one or he gets us to a top 5 pick next year? I guess we could but I don’t see that guy in this draft outside of maybe Mendoza…at Pick #1. Why waste top draft capital on a weak QB? We already tried that with Tua? Why try it again?

  28. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Achane is hurt

  29. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Jaylen Wright will get more carries as a chain got injured

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

for some reason, it wouldn’t let me correct my post before I posted it I was trying to correct the spelling of Achane

  30. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Again, Dulcich is a keeper at TE.

  31. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Achane OUT. Guarantee we don’t score another TD today

  32. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

And now we get to see if they have anything on offense without Achane.

  33. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

MM showing no trust in Tua, what’s 3 score lead (run on 3rd-11 for a yard)

  34. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Achane’s ribs are hurt. Happy it wasn’t a concussion… something that had occurred earlier in the game with a helmet-to-helmet hit on him… and the stej was the one who got hurt on that play.

  35. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age – just because the players are playing hard doesn’t mean the HC has to stay. We saw the same thing with Tony Sparano (RIP), but he was also in over his head. I feel like you’re all so fucking numb to losing and being mediocre at best you just accept it. This one game means zero to me. The Jets are bad, are in their 3rd string QB so nothing about this excites me. What I would like to see now is what I’ve said for a while. Take Achane out and this offense and Tua will turn right back into a pumpkin. I want that to happen because I want everyone to see it’s Achane, not Tua that makes this offense go. Ewers could run this offense with Achane doing his thing.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

No one said he did. You’re in a solo conversation with yourself this year. We don’t have to keep him, but they are more likely to win games this year playing for him than giving up like it looked like they would early on. That would have really helped us in the draft but it’s way too late now.

Everyone knows Achane runs this offense. That doesn’t really mean anything for next year. Who is the QB you want us to get to improve this team next year? Tell me who gets us in better shape next year so we can move forward? Which QB?

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Now Achane is OUT, but I really wanted to see what Ewers could do in the sane offense with Achane. I’m so tired of Tua and his safe style of play we need a fucking spark. He doesn’t give us that, he just doesn’t. We’re lucky we’re playing the shitty Jets. Wright rips off a 7 yard gain. He gets yanked immediately by McDaniel and then McDaniel can’t make substitutions quickly enough and calls a timeout. I’m tired of that too. He might be innovative, but he also doesn’t know how to run the team and the offense too. Back to which QB, for me it’s basically anyone but Tua. Tell me New Age, you’re satisfied keeping Champ Kelly and allowing him to draft for McDaniel and Tua for this offense?

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – just a step below, eh? Like a Grand Canyon sized step. You’re losing credibility by the second

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

No you are so wrong I knew it was just a matter of time before Achane got because he don’t have the body size to carry the ball as much as he has

  37. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Jordyn Brooks: STUD

  38. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    RASUL!!!

  39. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – go ask AI to compare De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright. 🤣

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Achane has been the entire offense, he’s the #2 RB in the NFL. You think if Wright got as many touches as Achane he’d be top 10? 20? 30? 40?

  41. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

    I absolutely love Anthony Weaver!

  42. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Jaylen Wright has ZERO vision.

  43. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Pick six by anyone but the jets

  44. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

“You think if Wright got as many touches as Achane he’d be top 10? 20? 30? 40?”

    Yes, I do.

  45. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Tua really is a shell of his former self. Though he looked great in the early 1st quarter, he’s reverted to his now known ’25 version of himself.

  46. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

they can’t get rid of Tua and Capri McD fast enough

  47. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Chubb and Sieler putting on a show!

  48. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – ok Chief! Then for the same reason we should put Ewers in at QB, I think he could be better than Tua

  49. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Tua sucks. He is a liability

  50. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Did I see that graphic correctly? We have a whole 15 YARDS on Offense this quarter/half.

  51. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

JAMES MF’n JONES in the backfield on that last play!!!

  52. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

JACK JONES AGAIN in the backfield with Dodson!!!

  53. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Good thing they are playing the stej……

  54. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Alright, it’s time to see Ewers in at QB.

  55. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – In the 3 game winning streak, Tua is 31-64 501 yards passing, 2 TD’s 3 INT’s. They actually don’t need Tua to run this offense, and man, so happy that now it will be exposed without Achane. I told you we won’t score a TD in the 2nd half, we might not score period. This offense is below average without Achane. Tua brings nothing to this team, except a Qb who’s afraid to take a hit, and rightfully so, but that doesn’t make him good, it makes him less effective.

  56. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

This Ewers talk is total BS he is not the answer; he can’t even win the backup QB spot.

  57. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Jaylen Wright is finding his niche!

  58. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Jaylen Wright 20 carries 99 yards

  59. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Wright is only effective running between the tackles. No vision for outside runs

  60. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

look at the Exodus at MetLife

  65. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – Wright had ALWAYS deserved more carries. I’ve been saying that the entire season. But to say Wright is just a notch below Achane is ridiculous

    Absolutely concurred.

  67. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Give me 2 more sacks and a pick-6 for Jack Jones before the game ends…

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – we might have a QB too, but we’ll never know if he never plays. You’re scared to see what Ewers can do. It’s ok, a lot of Tua fans are, I get it. They should be scared!

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

You are clueless and want the team to lose, so your opinion does not matter. You also havebeen wrong about the game today

QB change and it Zach Wilson!

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yes Markey, Ewers was the emergency QB, he can’t play. They’re doing this because once Ewers gets playing time it will start a QB controversy, and Tua doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to handle that

      • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Only in your head is that the case! The reality is Ewers is not ready and should sit out this year and come ready to compete for the backup spot next year.

  69. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

6 sacks today! Our Phins exceeded my expectations of 5!

  76. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Anthony Weaver’s Defense today only gave up a FG… granted, the stej were dropping like flies on both sides of the field. Remember, the lone TD the stej had was a punt return for a TD.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

jets traded away their top players for future considerations

Cooks was awful, but what did anyone expect, Ewers would’ve played the same

Tua has regressed, but not to that level or the level we saw last year from everyone not named Tua

  77. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Tua: 127 yards passing today. That is less than pedestrian. He’s finished as a passer.

  78. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Markey, why do you tell someone their opinion doesn’t matter because they are clueless, afterall that is just your opinion. 🤪. I agree with Mike, play Ewers, with this running offense, Tua has been neutralized. See what we have in Ewers.

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Well when you call for a unproven rookie who havent even earned the backup job to be our starting QB this season and to start over our veteran QB I believe it’s because some have given up on the season and for me that is just foolish and so I exprees my feeling as many of us do.

  79. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

    Go Bears!

  80. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I wouldn’t mind playing Ewers but he’s a backup for a reason. There are only two reasons McD would play Ewers. First, if was guaranteed his job next year and Ross wanted it. He would require that in writing. Two, Ewers was better than Tua in practice and he’s not. If Ewers would help McD keep his job, he’d be starting today. No question. McD isn’t finally running the ball because he discovered that running wins games. He’s running the ball because that’s his best chance to keep his job. Tua is bad enough that McD started to use the run game…but still not bad enough to be replaced. It’s that simple.

The people who want to see McD fired also want him to make the biggest mistake that could get him fired. Why on Earth would he ever do that? It makes zero sense. Not one iota.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Tua, as we saw in the 1st qtr, did what Ewers can’t yet

it doesn’t mean Ewers never will, it just means he’s not ready now

Tua sucks, but can manage the game enough to beat bad teams

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I 100% agree with your assessment. Capri McD is fighting to maintain his HCing job, and he’s made the adjustments necessary.

It’s not that I want Capri McD to come back as HC next season, but I totally understand what you’re saying… very good post, New Age.

lol, why throw, if you don’t have to, its the way teams played us in 2019

no TOs win by 24, nothing else matters

    ———

I get ya, 100%, for today’s game. However, there will come a team who destroys our running game. What then?

We can no longer rely on Tua to be that cat he once was in ’22 and ’23.

  82. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I woke up late and was behind all game, so I was off the board.

Any day we beat the Jest is a great day. When we destroy them, it’s even better.

Glad to see Wright finally get some carries. If he had better vision, he’d be a better back, but he’s solid and should be getting more carries so we can get Achane back to around 15 touches a game.

Other than the 1st quarter where we whipped them 3 possessions in a row, my favorite part of the game was that last TD drive. Everyone knew we were running the ball and we rammed it down their throat, ate clock and finished with a TD.

    Fun day.

  83. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think the Tua convo is kinda silly. He’s not getting benched. What do you tell the other players playing their asses off to win games. Sorry, we don’t care about winning? We’d rather see what Ewers looks like. The fact Wilson is still the #2 and it’s Wilson instead of Ewers at the end of this game should tell you what you need to know about Ewers.

These guys are in practice and know what each of the QBs bring to the table. They know which QB give them the best chance to win games. You want the team to quit? Dumb question, obviously a number of fans want the team to quit. but the team obviously doesn’t feel that way, so Tua is playing.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

And yeah, I agree, Tua has sucked, but he’s not getting benched because he’s better than Wilson, and Ewers isn’t even in the convo.

  84. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I see a team playing hard. Do I think we’re suddenly a juggernaut? No, I still see the problems we’re having in-game. We’ve benefitted from the soft part of our schedule. Now that we’re through the chaff, we’ll see what this team is made of the last few games when we play some decent teams.

I think the defense has been playing really well. Achane is an absolute beast. McD has finally stuck with the running game, mostly because he’s had to deal with subpar QB play. We’re playing better overall as a team, but I think what we’ve done is moved from bottom of the league to middle of the league play-wise.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

3 of our next 4 are against teams either fighting for the playoffs or jockeying for playoff position. Our play against these teams will be the measuring stick.

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age – Fair question for you . . .

How do you suppose Ewers, who is a 3rd string QB is going to be better in practice than Tua, who is getting almost all the practice reps, (and you know that’s true, because of last year’s disaster with any backup QB we had). How about you give Ewers first team reps for a few weeks and see how he does? I don’t know what the practice snap counts are but my guess would be something like 75% starter, 20% backup and then 5% for the 3rd string. You can probably add maybe 5-10% more to the 2nd and 3rd string but either way, it’s not enough to show anything, do you agree?

Anywho, Tuas has been literally doing nothing the last few games. Today he was 13-21 127 yards against a very disinterested Jets defense, 1 TD, 0 INT which brings his 4 game total over the last 4 to this

    44 – 85, 628 yards, 3 TD’s, 3 INT’s.

That’s a paltry 52% completion percentage, less than a TD per game passing, along with 3 INT’s.

This is what I’m talking about, and frankly I’m shocked that you can’t see this. This is not good QB play, or even average QB play. This is subpar at best. When Tua was completing 70% of his passes he was the most accurate QB that ever played this game. He has 18 TD’s, 14 INT’s. That’s a hideous ratio of TD’s:INT’s.

Stats, stats and more stats were all Tua supporters threw around for his entire tenure but now they go out the window because his stats suck?

Do you really believe that if Ewers was given first team reps in practice for a few weeks that he couldn’t do what Tua is doing now, and you know Ewers could/would run for a few first downs and actually go past the fucking first down marker and actually get the first down. Tua’s arm is shot, he can’t throw downfield unless he puts a high arcing floater with no pace he won’t take chances running with the ball, so please explain to me like I’m 5 years old why Tua gives us the best chance to win?

Kong – Once this team loses, and they will if Tua keeps playing like he has, and we play against a better team, then the whole Tua gives us the best chance to win charade will be over with and then they can make the move to Ewers. I think there’s politics in football too, and if you give Ewers playing time it’s an insult to Tua and they don’t want to do that. I couldn’t care less whether Tua’s insulted, he has $212M reasons to get over it.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

What does Ewers bring to the table that you are sure he can do? If he can do something why hasn’t he jumped Wilson who we know is trash?

Right now, the team is playing hard and we’re still mathematically in the hunt, so I understand why they are sticking with Tua. I know we’re not making the playoffs, lol, but I fully understand what the team is doing.

Once we’re out, which may be after next week, then we can start thinking about looking beyond this season.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

And I would agree at that point, give Ewers a try, even over Wilson, because again, we know what Wilson is.

I was trying to craft a salient post about why to play Ewers and bench Tua, but I yield to Mike E. Lol

  88. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Ewers is a rookie 7th-round draft pick (231st overall) and is not deserving of anything, especially when the HC is fighting to keep his JOB. There is NOTHING about Ewers that makes him even close to being our starter. I feel some of you want that because he will lose, and that is what many of you are rooting for: losses and not wins.

It is so foolish talk that I find it hard to take anybody seriously with that nonsense. McDaniel knows Tua gives us the best chance to win! And Ewers has not even beaten out Zach Wilson as the backup QB. It’s just plain nonsense to think otherwise!

It reminds me why you can’t take this site seriously because of foolish reasoning not worth responding to. And with that, I am out of here for a while!

  89. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Kong – like I said, politics. I saw Ewers sling a pass with a defender right in his face and that was pretty close to on the money about 30 yards downfield, and that pass was thrown off his back foot. I’m sure you can find the video of it. All I can say is Twitter was lit up with people talking about giving Ewers playing time, and I can tell you for a fact, that was the very last time Ewers was the backup QB. No coincidence, I promise you. They have to walk on eggshells with the fucking Fragile to the point where we’ll never see Ewers again. Fans understand that Wilson is gone and that despite the fact that Ewers wasn’t drafted high, he was once a highly touted prospect.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think it’s absurd to think they have Ewers as the #3 instead of the #2 and won’t give him playing time because of Tua’s ego.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That’s fine, I can’t tell you not to think that, but that’s what happened. He threw a fucking dime 40 yards downfield and then he disappeared. Call it whatever you like, but that’s what happened. He went from being the #2 QB to the emergency QB for the rest of the season.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

He threw one pass. It was a good pass.

How has he looked in practice? Can he run the offense with the full playbook or is he limited? Does he know all the protections? Can he read a defense?

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Other than that pass he was 4 for 7 for 13 yards.

Today was a good win. Leave all of the other bullshit out for a day and just enjoy it. We beat the Jets handily, and ran all over them. Let’s go Dolphins!

It was actually a 40 yard pass, and the pressure was crazy.

    *********************************

We’ll never know, but as I said, he can’t be getting more than a handful of snaps as the #3 QB, so we’ll never know.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Exactly, we can’t answer those questions. I would be willing to bet the team knows more about what he can and can’t do than you or I do.

You’re basing this entire campaign on the fact you don’t like Tua or his play. I get it. I don’t like him either. But I do believe the coaches when they say Tua gives us a better chance to win.

You honestly think McD , who is playing for his job, isn’t playing the guy who gives us the best chance? How does Tua’s ego come into play there?

  93. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – This is Quinn Ewers NFL Draft Profile

    https://www.nfl.com/prospects/quinn-ewers/32004557-4541-5291-45fc-144750ad611e

Just because he was a 7th RD pick doesn’t mean he wasn’t a good prospect. He was considered a 3rd RD QB by NFL.com. Listen to what they say about him. he doesn’t sound like a 7th RD pick at all

  94. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Kong – Yes, I’m aware of what his stats were, but we saw how many QB’s come in here without enough practice time and saw how they did, and we’re talking about a guy like Tyler Huntley who started a few games. It’s got to be hard to run this offense McDaniel uses without significant practice time, and practice time with the starters. That long pass was to Eskridge, who was a 5th WR, someone who Ewers was probably more familiar with and may have had some timing with.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think you probably hit on why Ewers is still the #3. I touched on it above. I think the offense probably has to be scaled back for him because not only is he learning how to be in the NFL but I think our offense has a significant learning curve.

So, I get what the team is doing. It’s likely if you want to give Ewers a real shot to start a game, you basically concede the season. McD is playing for his job and the team is still playing to win. So you play the QB can run the offense and gives you the best chance to win right now.

It’s all speculation, so I’m saying ‘likely’ and ‘probably’ because we don’t really know.

  95. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Tua is the best option because he knows the offense. Thats it. Nothing else he brings is better.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That’s the most accurate way to frame it, but I also said we should give Ewers first team practice reps so he can get familiar with the offense. I doubt it ever happens because The Fragile could never stomach such a thing. It would be nice after we lose a game and the playoff chase is over if we get that opportunity, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

      Very succinct and spot on.

  97. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Kong – That’s correct, McDaniel is definitely playing for his job, and his overuse of Achane is another one of his mistakes. Wright is not nearly as good as Achane, but he should have been getting more touches to take a load off (Fanny) Achane, take a load for free. In his desperation, he’s been a little narrow-minded. He doesn’t care about the future of this team unless he’s in it!

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Absolutely agreed about Achane and Wright. I was fine giving Achane around 15 touches a game. I think you need to get a playmaker like him a certain number of touches. But he’s been averaging like 25 touches a game now, and that is too much.

Wright is a significant drop off in big play ability, but the same would be said of most backs coming in as the #2. As we saw today, he can grind some yards. Give him 10 carries a game and scale Achane back.
