2025 Season – Game 15 – Bengals @ Dolphins

For those of you have been here with us for a long time, you know how excited I am about this Sunday’s game. I’ve been waiting to see this team move on from QB Tua Tagovailoa and now it’s official. I’m not going stand on top of Tua and get a 15 yard Unsportmanlike Conduct penalty flag, but I was exhausted seeing that same old tired show, knowing full well he didn’t have the mettle to win big games, shouldn’t have been given that huge 4 YR/ $212M contract but they did. That’s going to kill our cap next season and in 2027, but the important thing is, it appears as if his uninspiring play won’t have to kill us too.

Is this end of the Tua era in Miami? It’s possible, but regardless, I’m excited to see the rookie 7th RD pick Quinn Ewers play this Sunday. I don’t know what to expect, but I do know it will be different than watching Tua Tagovailoa play, and for me that’s good enough for now. So what should we expect from Quinn Ewers and the Miami Dolphins offense this Sunday? Impossible to say. We know that Mike McDaniel’s offense is very complex, and we saw how difficult it was for other QB’s to come here in and replace QB Tua Tagovailoa when he’s been injured. Now most of that was just poor planning by this organization, relying on an unprepared QB Skylar Thompson who looked like he had never seen this offense before as the backup QB, and then scrambling for Practice Squad QB’s Tim Boyle and Tyler “Snoop” Huntley. Each one got a week of practice with the starters and both QB’s struggled in their starts.

This week in particular, we’re playing the Cincinnati Bengals who have the worst run defense in the NFL. The Benglas have allowed an NFL worst 2211 yards rushing and a 5.3 yards per rush average. RB De’Von Achane is averaging 5.8 YPC in 2025 so he must be looking forward to playing the Bengals this Sunday. Achane is #3 in rushing yards with 1186 yards and is trailing #2 James Cook and #1 Jonathan Taylor by over 200 yards. This game can give him an opportunity to catch up some. Now that doesn’t mean that Achane will have 40 carries and QB Quinn Ewers will throw 12 passes or less, but I would expect a heavy dose of Achane, maybe Wright and/or Gordon.

I’m very excited to see Quinn Ewers play, because who knows? He’s got a live arm, not a Drake Maye arm, or a Patrick Mahomes arm, but he can throw the ball better than the current 2025 version of Tua Tagovailoa. I understand that’s not saying much, but I’m sure the kid can throw the ball with pace up to about 40 yards and I look forward to seeing some of that. I’m also quite sure he can run for a 1st down and slide P-A-S-T the first down marker. It’s the little things, ya know? I hope he’s practicing well, I hope he gets to digest some of the playbook, and mostly I hope he got to get in sync with his receivers, ALL of them, not just the De’Von Achane Show. RB De’Von Achane has 2 more receptions (61) than WR Jaylen Waddle (59), and Waddle has 18 more receptions than the nearest WR, slot receiver Malik Washington (41). It’s time to get WR’s back in the game. Probably not THIS game, but I want to see some downfield throws, and not “Punts” as they were called to make excuses for Tua when they were lobbed up there (The only way he can throw past 20 yards) and intercepted.

Is it possible that Quinn Ewers can show enough to consider him to be the QB next season? I’m not talking about this game in particular, but the small body of work he’ll have in this one and the next two. I think he can show enough to be considered to be in the mix, and that’s pretty much all I asked for. I just wanted to see if the kid could even be considered to be in the mix as the starter for next season. We’re not going to have money to spend, so it’s probably Tua, Ewers or some other low price veteran NFL QB, or a 2026 Draft pick. I’d love to see Ewers show well. I know the odds are not with him on that, but it happens now and then. Tom Brady was a 6th RD pick, Brock Purdy was also a 7th RD pick. I think we should draft a QB next season, but that doesn’t mean it has to be our 1st pick. We do need to address that position without a doubt.

Have we seen the last of QB Tua Tagovailoa? I would imagine he’s been humbled by this benching despite his rhetoric that “he gets to go home and be with his kids whether we win or lose”. He’s a competitor, and this probably stings. Maybe it’s a wake up call for him and he goes out and finds a new trainer and comes back next season in great shape and able to do significantly more physically and he’s once again a viable starter. That’s fine with me, but even in that scenario, he shouldn’t be gifted the starting spot, it has to be a fair competition if you’re going to go about it the right way. I’m rooting for QB Quinn Ewers to have a great first start, to get a “W” and to show us that he deserves consideration for next season.

Looks like the Falcons are going to hold on and win. That will put them at 6-10 also and due to a weaker SOS we will move up to pick #10.

  2. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

No expectations and I was ridiculed for being a local….

    Ewers was that.. lol

  3. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Huge hit by Jax defender on Denver WR. They’re bringing out the cart. Refs throw flag for defenseless receiver. It was a monster hit, but you can see the defender did exactly what the league is asking them to do. It was totally clean.

Refs talk about it and pick up the flag. Love to see that. Don’t leave it a penalty for optics just because it was a huge hit and the guy got hurt. Hope the guy is all right.

  4. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Not to mention Saints and, of course, Bengals won and that puts them at 5-10. Dolphins also have a weaker SOS than those 2 teams, at least for now. Dolphins have the Bucs and Pats left, both who are fighting for their division title. We are going to get their best.

Saints have the Titans and Falcons left. They could finish with a better record and move us up another spot.

Bengals have the Cardinals and Browns left. They could also finish with a better record and move us up to as high as #8.

Commanders have the Cowboys and Eagles left. They could finish with the same record and have a higher SOS than us. We do have head-to-head on them but not sure if that affects draft order. I am just going to think it will and believe #8 is as high a pick we could get.

  5. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Is the Lions defense just as bad as ours?

  6. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I’m wondering 2 things. Will the refs gift the Lions this game and why on Earth did Campbell decide that having Goff throw 52 times is better than giving Montgomery and Gibbs more runs?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

15 total rushing yards for the Lions

      😬

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Lol, but still. Goff can win games but not even the best QBs usually win the games they throw 40+ times. Steelers won off TWO 45 yard runs by Warren even with a fantastic day by Rodgers.

  7. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

If we lose our last 2 games, we should have a real shot at a top 10 pick

will be interesting to see how everything shapes up if Moore leaves Oregon and declares

with a top 10 pick I think we have a good shot at a QB

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yeah, with Cam Ward on the Titans and Dart on the Giants, scratch them in the QB hunt. With Shough and Sanders playing better, you could probably scratch them 2 teams as well. That would just leave the Jets drafting a QB in the top 10. Then, possibly the raiders.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Who do you like? I think Moore and Mendoza will be Picks #1-2 for QBs with one going to the Raiders and the other to the Jets. Simpson has been uneven but won this week. Is another smallish Bama QB with even less experience someone we will take a flyer on? He’s got some mojo though and if they pull of the ultimate upset…who knows.

  8. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Pats at Ravens should be a good one tonight. Ravens are in a must win game and Pats need to win to stay ahead of the Bills.

  9. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I can’t wait to see Ewers in last 2 games…lots to learn and great experience

  10. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    BBM

The only way head-to-head applies is if each team has the same record and the same SOS. The next procedure for breaking the tie would be head-to-head. This goes for teams in the same division, same conference, and non-conference.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

I think by the end of the season NO will end up with a weaker SOS than us, so if we tie on record, NO will probably pick before us in round 1. It would then rotate by round and by how many teams are tied with the same record.

  12. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    LOL, that wasn’t pass interference?

  13. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

New Age, I like Ty Simpson. He is a little green with this being his only season starting. He has stuff to work on and get better. I said it yesterday, I like how he doesn’t get rattled. He gets a happy feet at times. That may just be his way of trying to keep his feet set to throw.

Is he worth our 1st round pick? I don’t know. The other 2 are.

  14. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

These teams we have played keep winning and jacking up our SOS dammit. lol

I think it’s hilarious comparing Tua (6 year starter) to Ewers (first NFL game, week 16).

    Why?

    And pointless…lol

  18. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Tua couldn’t get it done in 14 tries this year. He looked poised and happy holding a clipboard….lol

  19. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

No ducks flying in yesterday’s game, not one, and plenty of time on the clock on almost every down. What a fucking concept…lol

  20. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

According to Ewers, the playbook was the same as it’s been all year and only tailored against the opponent.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It may have been the same plays but they cut out all the presnap motion

we don’t need verification from Ewers or Tua or McDaniel on that – we can see that with our own eyes

there wasn’t any presnap motion yesterday – which is probably part of the problem in bad penalties and snapping the ball really late

  21. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I think if Ewers went 22/28 for 350 yards, 3 TDs and no INTs we would be fine comparing him to Tua! It’s a natural comparison to compare Ewers; they are playing the same Postion

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Except that Ewers has just had a couple of practices with players he hasn’t played with and this is his first game. Sure, can’t stop anyone from making the comparison but Tua has been here for 6 years and was putting up these numbers, hard to expect a guy coming into this mess to do a lot better. I still actually think he looked better than Tua, but as we saw last week, stats can be very deceiving. Tua had a 110 passer rating but he was garbage until garbage time arrived, and then he padded his stats and looked like he had a good game

  24. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t care who you compare him too

the question is whether Ewers can be the starter next year

he would have to be phenomenal to lock that 2026 starting job up

it’s a lot more likely he will get a shot to competition. There’s not much eeers can do and nothing I get out of a comparison to Tua or anyone else in considering whether we should bring another QB in this off-season

I don’t see how we can not draft a QB to compete for the job

  25. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

McDaniels half time adjustments lead to…

McDaniel’s team has been outscored 113-27 in the third quarter, and that is a good reason why they have only won six games and will not record a winning record this year.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

McDaniel’s teams are 4-23 when trailing at halftime the past four years. Does that speak to something more than adjustments?

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

MM is the GATE kid, that got Cs and Ds in regular classes

he has no common sense or fundamentals in his coaching

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If Ross keeps that jackoff, he’s football IQ is dumber, than we all thought

that 3rd qtr stat confirms what we all already knew

someone like Omar needs to step up and ask the GM how they can possibly keep an HC who has zero halftime adjustment capability

to be fair we generally get the ball to start the game, so less possessions in the 3rd qtr, but the stat is over the top against MM

  26. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Can’t we just stop talking about Tua already? We wasted 6 years on his sad ass already.

  27. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Rock,

Do ya think maybe the players had something to do with it? This team hasn’t had any dawgs in years. Frankly, Hill is probably the closest we’ve had..and he’s a fricking WR. This roster hasn’t had guys who would chew off their arm to win a game for decades. Soft.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Sure the players have a lot to do with the losing. But the specific stat of being worse than the other 3 quarters in the 3rd is MOSTLY on coaching I believe.

  28. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Rock,

I guess I don’t need any more reasons not to like how MM coaches. I will always put it on the players. Go win.

  29. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Man, I just saw a mock draft that has us picking Ty Simpson in the 1st round…

I will completely lose my shit if they pick another Alabama QB!!! You can keep them!

  30. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Rock,

Lol. My bad. I wasn’t trying to shut you down. Good point. MM sucks. I’m just tired of the excuses.

I think we’re all starting to agree that we’ve seen enough of Tua and Mike McDaniel. They should do the right thing and end it with MM, Tua and thank Champ Kelly for filling in and find a new GM that will have full autonomy on everything.

  37. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They are fining players for facemask penalties now? WTF, greedy bastards!

On Saturday, the NFL announced that they’re fining Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks for two separate incidents.

Brooks was slapped with an $11,593 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct (taunting) during the third quarter of the game at the 2:23 mark. The NFL also handed him another $11,593 fine for unnecessary roughness (facemask) at the 1:21 mark in the second quarter of the game.

  38. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    PFF mock draft:

    1. Miami Dolphins (via Giants): QB Fernando Mendoza, Indiana

Projected trade: New York Giants send No. 1 overall pick to Miami Dolphins for No. 10, No. 44, a 2027 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick

    They better not do it!

Mendoza is not worth 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks.

  39. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

One of the main things I saw in the highlights on Ewers since I didn’t get to watch the games is how the ball comes out. It seemed effortless with some velocity, ball got there quick.

Maybe that is because I am used to seeing Tua’s floaters all the time.

The fact the Dolphins could draft anywhere from 7th to 17th, with two weeks left, is “wild,” to quote what Tua said to Omar when Omar told him that he threw INTs in bunches. You know I only root for losses if you can get a franchise QB by doing so. Still, that’s a big swing.

Mendoza doesn’t exactly have a #1 must have pick written all over him, but he is productive as he’ll and wins

Texans only need to to the Chargers on the road or Colts at home.

I don’t really care about the rest of the NFL season, playoffs and Superbowl. The only thing I want / care about is that neither the Bills or the Pats win the big game. That’s it. I’ll look at the headlines the day after to see if I am upset briefly about it.

I think a lot of the stuff people are calling “reports” are really just people speculating on what they think is going to happen

it makes sense to wait on a decision on MM for the season to be complete

Those not happy with Kenneth Grant, he leads the team in run stop win rate, per — Marcel Louis-Jacques

Though, Louis-Jacques feels Phillips should be Dolphins Rookie of the Year.

You’re either going to build a team the right way or keep doing the same shit over and over. Stop chasing QBs. Build a strong team.

  62. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Players BBM wanted us to draft, but went to other teams and could be the Rookie of the Year for their team.

I wanted to trade down and take LT Grey Zabel. Seahawks took him at #18. He’s the #1 ranked OG in the NFL in run block win rate.

I wanted Donovan Jackson in the second round but he went to the Vikings at #24. He’s currently the #6 ranked OG in the NFL in run block win rate.

I wanted CB Denzel Burke at pick #98 but we traded that pick to move up for Jonah. We still could have taken Burke in the 5th but took Jason Marshall instead with Burke still on the board. Burke has 37 total tackles, 3 INT’s and 9 PD’s.

I wanted TE Jackson Hawes late day 3. Bills drafted him in the 5th round and he is their leading candidate for their ROY.

I wanted WR Chimere Dike as a late round pick in a couple of my mocks but not the final mock. He went in the 4th round though. He has 2,269 all purpose yards mostly as a returner with 2 punt returns for TD’s. He also has 4 receiving TD’s.

  63. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I can actually see both sides of the story with the trade up for a QB. If we had a GM that seemed like he had a plan and knew what he was doing, I don’t really have a problem getting the QB. If it’s Mike McDaniel and Champ Kelly making that call, then I’d probably be against it because if they draft a QB, then MM will probably get at least one more year with that QB and that sounds like a mess to me, so no thanks!

Holy crap! Silver has just rocketed past it’s all time high price (adjusted for inflation). I just checked the spot price and it was $70.16 per ounce. I bought $20K worth of silver 2.5 years ago and it is worth over 70K today.

Wow! DK Medcalf really screwed himself by laying hands on a fan!! He received “Only” a two week suspension, but his contract has this clause in it.

“His four-year, $132 million contract from March, reviewed by CBS Sports, notes that if he “fails… to practice or play with the Club for any reason,” which includes “Player’s suspension by the NFL or Club for Conduct Detrimental,” his guarantees “will be NULL AND VOID.””

The dude just lost ALL his guaranteed money!!

      @NFL_DovKleiman

Yikes: A new video has surfaced from the immediate aftermath of the DK Metcalf incident with a Lions fan and the fan’s reaction after being punched has gone viral. “That was the goal baby!” What an awful look for the fan. DK was the victim.

Right above the video that shows the claim DK made that the fan used a racial slur was false.🙄

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

There are definitely lines fans shouldn’t be allowed to cross, but as long as heckling is allowed using a person’s legal name to get under their skin isn’t one of them. It’s called heckling for a reason.

The reason DK lied about what was said is likely because he knows it looks pretty stupid to have that response over what was actually said. He isn’t a victim. He’s an idiot for engaging.

    Kong,

I’d have suspended him and fined him as much as possible. I can’t stand obnoxious fans, but Metcalf chose to put himself next to that fan. He could have simply stayed in his protected bubble on the sideline and not gone near the stands. I don’t care what the fan said…words aren’t bullets. If you don’t like it…go get a different job. I was called lots of nasty things at my job. I felt like punching many people, but I didn’t. If I had, I would have ended up in jail. Privilege…funny how it works for black folks too when they’re rich or famous.

  72. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I absolutely can’t stand racism, regardless of where or who it comes from. It takes an absolute idiot to broad-brush and label a whole race of people negatively.

And it also takes an absolute idiot to use the ‘race card’ to hide behind their own transgressions… that, too, is racism. There’s no such thing as ‘reverse-racism’… it’s RACISM, PERIOD.

Being that I work for an international company and have for over many years, I’ve had the rare opportunity and pleasure to meet so many people from different ethnicities, backgrounds, and faiths. Many have been sent to me to train.

Let me tell ya, there are true assholes from every lot in life… and there are true GEMS from every lot in life. One must understand that true worth is in the individual… in their heart, mind, and soul… not based on based on ethnicity, background, or faith.

That stated and probably needless to say, I’m not very happy with DK Metcalf and the Chargers’ PR Twitter account person.

    ————

Speaking of NWI, why was he brought here again? Oh yeah, to be a ‘taller’ redzone target for Tua, after hauling in 9 TDs last year for the Titans.

How many times has NWI actually been targeted this season? A whole 20 times over 14 games.

What a WASTE of the talent that is NWI. $3.2M this season down the drain. SMH. I believe that’s very illustrative of how Tua isn’t reading the field. Same thing goes for Ced Wilson… why was he brought here again?

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We brought Ced Wilson to town in ’22 for a 3-year, $22M contract.

How many times was Ced targeted over his time here (the first time)? 68 times over 2 seasons (avg 34 times per season).

Was that worth the 3-year, $22M contract?!! Guess not, being we cut him after the ’23 season.

In ’23, Ced was targeted 38 times in 15 games… and in 11 games, Achane was targeted 37 times.

More evidence that Tua is only throwing to his safety blankets in ‘Reek, ‘Da Penguin, and Achane.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Now figure… especially in the ’23 season, ‘Reek wasn’t healthy down the stretch… nor was Waddle (both missed time). Plus, Achane had sustained a concussion where he missed valuable time.

WHY wasn’t Ced Wilson targeted more often?

  75. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

IMO, we struck GOLD in ’23, at its best! However, it wasn’t sustainable because we had track-runners as our go-to’s… both sides of the ball. Injuries derailed the season (especially on the O-Line), and it (naturally) took time for our Defense to gel what with a new DC in the venerable Vic Fangio.

PLUS… General Grief had brought in some sissies who didn’t like how hard Fangio worked them. Oh, poor babies!

Why am I posting some of my thoughts here on years past? I’ll tell ya why: it’s time to blow it up.

I don’t trust Steve Ross to make the right decisions either in terms of hiring a new GM and HC, but I think it’s most obvious to many that Capri McD returning isn’t going to make a difference. I mean, we’re already mired with Steve Ross’ decision making… and have been since ’09. He can’t do much worse(!)… at least I think he can’t do much worse? *Nervous LOL*…?
