I was just reading up on our cap situation. We are really screwed the next few years. One of the articles I read said that we pretty much CAN’T cut Chubb because of the additional dead money. That’s assuming we cut Tua.
Chubbs cap hit is around 31m the next couple of years
if you cut him in 2026 – his dead cap is 23m. I don’t see the point of that at all. In 2026 the dead cap is more like 12m – so you get a little more
I don’t think cutting players is a good plan
If you were able to cut Chubb this off-season and you did it. You save less than 10min cap room and now you have to fill that spot for a contract that costs less than 10m to break even

To me, that is nonsense. Crabbs pointed it out. You cut Chubb, yeah you create 23m in dead cap but you also clear 7.3m. It washes out his incentive money from this year and leaves you some to sign another player. It also clears 31m in 2027. This would give the team over 100m in cap in 2027.
You could also post 6/1 cut him and clear 20.2m for the second waive of free agency leaving only 10.9m in dead cap. It will also clear 19.6m in 2027.
Best thing to do is try to find a trade partner. Get something for him. The above #’s will be the same as if you cut him.
If they are going to say “CAN’T” that would be for Tua, but even Tua isn’t a capital can’t. Tua can be cut post 6/1 creating an extra 11m cap hit but it will clear 21.6m.
Chubb is far from being someone you “can’t” cut.
Post 6/1 cut on Tua would create and extra 11m cap hit in 2026 but clear 21.6m in 2027.

That is average over the course of the contract. You have to look at the impact going forward. Grier back loaded and restructured him. He’s not worth the money (cap hit) going forward.
Look at the cap hit for 2026. He will have the 6th highest cap hit. His cap hit is 6.5m more than Myles Garrett and 11.8m more than AVG in 2026.
Chubb has played well for Miami ans I see no reason to cut him.
Chubb is a good veteran preseace that can help the young players learn how to win in the NFL IMO.
I think it comes down to what you think this team can do in 2026 and what a new GM would want to do going forward.
You could try to piece together a team and just miss on a w/c again or you can blow it up. Trade Chubb and Minkah. Post 6/1 cut Tua.
Moving Chubb pre 6/1 and cutting Tua post 6/1 will clear around 53.1m in 2027 cap. This will give the new GM close to 150m in cap to spend in 2027.
You can totally rebuild this team right and turn it around quickly.

I think next season will be a similar record to this season. Nothing against Ewers, but I expect us to keep building the roster, and hopefully by 2027, we can potentially begin to be contenders. I’m still so curious as to what happens with MM and Champ Kelly. My feeling is we move on from both, but as a Dolphins fan, I also expect to be disappointed

Again, I don’t care if half the cap next year is dead money; we need to suck it up in 2026 and start to right this ship!!! Trade anyone who isn’t going to be in their prime in 2028, and get picks, picks, picks. 2026 is probably going to be bad no matter what, so I have no problem going with the young guys and having the rest of the team be a skeleton crew. 2027 is when we start the climb back up….

They started doing it right and then veered off course, plus it didn’t help drafting a QB that was damaged goods. Obviously, it all starts with the right GM, then drafting correctly, while also finding a legit QB that can help you win in the playoffs.

I liked Cam Miller out of NDState. He was a UDFA I wanted but got drafted instead. He’s a dual threat. Not that big though but has a good arm and accuracy.
He is a good pick up along with the others we poached off practice squads. Kelly has done well in this regard.
I’m going to call it right now: David Bailey looks like he’ll kill the Combine and end up going top-5 in the ’26 Draft.
It’s hard to say. There are several teams picking ahead of us who don’t need QB’s.
Is this an early sign we are going to move on from Chubb and Tua? We sign Edge Andre Carter II off the Lions practice squad. We sign QB Cam Miller off the Raiders practice squad. I believe we signed another player off a teams PS but can’t remember who.

I think it’s more like insurance. Sign some depth or players you think might be able to hold the line. That way you can go take a draft pick at that position and still feel okay if the pick doesn’t pan out right away.
True. Both Edge and QB were positions we needed to add 2. Now we don’t necessarily need to but I still would on edge if we trade Chubb.

I really can’t see a single position that this team couldn’t use an upgrade. Maybe RB, but I still don’t feel that is an established group. I wouldn’t even be focusing on a position. I’d be focusing on players. When you have needs everywhere, BPA makes more sense.
I hate when I hear GMs have guys they focus on. Why constrict yourself? Look at all the possibilities equally and make a good choice. Forcing yourself into boxes just makes no sense to me.
I understand, I believe those guys would be BPA where we will be picking.
I have also taken a DT in the 2nd round because it was a BPA.

Do you guys have any thoughts on Misery (Missouri) RT Keagen Trost? He’s 6’4″, 316, and he only gave up 8 total pressures (2 sacks, 2 hits, 4 hurries) all year long (in 891 snaps). That’s bloody SPLENDID for an SEC Tackle! Yes, he’s draft eligible for the ’26 Draft.
I think he’s flying under the radar, but my eye is on him.
I haven’t watched him yet. Mostly I have focused on potential top 100 players, but I will take a look as we get closer to the Senior Bowl and Combine. That’s if he comes out.

I believe the weight and psi are about the same, 14-15 ounces/12.5-13.5 psi. The long circumference(tip to tip) is about 1 inch longer in the NFL, and the short circumference(center) is about 2 1/2 inches more in the NFL.
Mendoza knows how to dive past the first down marker. Some level headed Dolphins fan was saying Ewers and Tua should compete for the starting job next season. Unless Tua is willing to play balls to the wall and be prepared to do anything necessary to win a game I never want to see him play for us again. I don’t know why any fan of this team would.

Ponds may be a smaller CB but he can hit. Two big hits in that first half.
Ponds is always in my mocks for the early 3rd round. He’s a tough player with a high football IQ. Also, WR Bernard from Alabama has great hands, is a good blocker, and has a high football IQ. Both players are on my favorite list, Ponds in the 3rd and Bernard in the 2nd if we were to get another second-round pick by trading a player or 2.
Indiana WR Charlie Becker will be draft eligible in 2027. He’s 6’4, 205 and runs a 4.39, maybe faster. Has some great hands and can go up and get it.

Bookman – it appears as if Aikman has been hired. I guess there can be speculation as to why, but the story checks out to me. I’ve been saying that we need to have a new GM and havi one guy responsible fir building this organization with no restrictions. Finding a GM and telling him he has to keep Mike McDaniel or Tua as the starting QB is no way to do it. I’m thrilled that we’re serious about going about all of this I’m the correct and necessary fashion
Hopefully Aikman learned something about how to run an organization from JJ or after leaving the Cowboys, since Jerry knows nothing
A league source said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross selected Aikman because of his widespread NFL contacts and a desire to have an outside voice in the search. There is hope afterall with the news about Marino and Aikman helping with the next GM search.
Why do we feel that Aikman can help find a GM? I know he’s got a lot of contacts around the NFL from his analyst role and playing days, but what makes you guys think he can find a GM better than anyone else ?
It’s more about the fact that they are looking into finding a new GM. Aikman is very knowleagable and he is not the only one tasked with that assignment. I am sure they will most likely consult with Jimmy Johnson as well.
Bri – like I said above, it’s not so much that it’s Aikman, it’s that they’re doing what needs to be done. Aikman is thoroughly entrenched in the game so any help he gives is fine. The important aspect is that they know they need to make wholesale changes are going to do what needs to be done. Do you disagree?

I understand that with hiring a GM, I just don’t understand why Aikman is the consultant. Maybe it’s because of Marino who is also a team consultant. I think they respect each other.
On another note, I do think Ewers can be a quality starting QB. Achane, Waddle and Dulcich is a decent start as we start over with probably 50% of the roster. We have some players throughout the roster but we definitely need an influx of superior talent. OL, another difference maker at WR and more talent in the secondary. For some reason we can’t seem to stay healthy with that group.
