Jeff Hafley has been quite busy as you can see filling out his coaching staff. Note that there are 2 positions with asterisks next to them, that’s because neither of those positions have been formally announced although this is the expected outcome. Sean Duggan as DC and Al Washington as Defensive Line Coach. As to who the DC officially is is not really all that important as Jeff Hafley will be calling the defense. The coaching staff is chock full of Green Bay Packers coaches, they must be thrilled that Jeff Hafley not only took the HC job here in Miami but took so much of their staff along with him.

There’s always going to be people who are going to say how important it is to watch to see coaching connections, who Head Coaches are able to bring in as coordinators and assistants. Well, I’ll tell you this, while there are no “big” names for coordinators, it does speak well of Haf that all these guys who worked for both Haf and Sully chose to follow them here, rather than work for a pretty darn good Head Coach in his won right, Todd LaFleur. This is definitely going to have to be a wait and see process here in Miami.

One thing I will reiterate after watching Haf speak is that he definitely appears to be a no nonsense guy, which of course is refreshing after being with a guy who was pretty accepting of nonsense. I’m guessing players who practice well won’t be getting to choose their favorite song the next practice, as it was with Mike McDaniel. The players loved it, don’t get me wrong, but we know we absolutely had an accountability issue here in Miami, players either missing certain meetings or constantly coming in late for them. This will not be tolerated, and despite the fact that these multi millionaire players can be spoiled brats, that doesn’t mean you let them get away with stuff. You have to set the tone of what will and won’t be tolerated, and clearly a change is necessary.

I won’t and can’t say that every guy we hired is the best in the business because they aren’t. What they more than likely are though is on the same page with Sully and Haf, and that my friends is a good thing. Everyone on the same page in the same direction doing it the same way should be helpful for the Dolphins as they truly begin building this team. There’s not much of a foundation here, and there’s going to be a departure of a bunch of players to bring us to being in the black as far as cap space and out of the red. Right now we’re in the negative, and players like Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb, Minkah Fitzpatrick are the big earners that may either be cut or traded to obtain some more draft capital and lower our cap. We also might have to either cut QB Tua Tagovailoa which will be a huge cap hit for us, monstrous really, a dead cap hit of almost $100M. Thanks again Chris Grier, great job! I wouldn’t be surprised if RT Austin Jackson is cut, both his play and availability have been less than average. Once the aforementioned players are gone, we’ll have a really young roster and then with the influx of drafted and undrafted players on the roster, it be even younger.

The dream of receiving compensatory picks for Anthony Weaver were but a pipe dream. Both he and Mike McDaniel had to accept coordinator positions and both of them will be better off that way. It seemed pretty clear that running everything proved to be too much of a task for Mike McDaniel, but he should thrive as OC for the Chargers. Anthony Weaver has yet to be hired but will be interviewing for the second time with the Arizona Cardinals and he may end up their DC. I wish both of them luck, they did their best here, it just wasn’t enough and to be fair, neither of them were helped much by departed GM Chris Grier, who left this roster in a shambles along with being in the red cap wise.

The Senior Bowl is going strong, I plan to watch the practices that I have recorded when I can, I’ve been spending and hour to 3 hours on my days off at the dentist trying to fix my teeth. What a mess! If I never see the dentist again after these issues are fixed, I won’t shed a tear. Of course I’ll have to go every 6 months for cleanings, but procedures, NO THANKS! I know we have plenty of residents here at FMU keeping us abreast of what’s happening, I thank you guys very much for doing that BBM, and others! The draft is where we will be building our foundation, so I believe we might take at least 1 or 2 guys from the Senior Bowl. As to the QB position, as I’ve said many times before, unless QB Tua Tagovailoa has a renaissance, and comes in here chiseled and ready to battle for a starting job, I never, ever want to see him take a snap as Miami Dolphins QB. I don’t care if we cut him or trade him, just get him out! On the off chance he does have a change in attitude, he’s more than welcome to compete, and that doesn’t just mean practices, it means in the actual game, like every play matters, not like in the past that he was far too important to get a first down, his health came first and foremost, far more important than the team or actually WINNING. I’m fine with drafting a QB and letting 2nd year QB Quinn Ewers compete with that QB for the starting job.

    this is an incredible stat

we had the least amount of snaps from players we drafted the Packers had the most

the Dolphins really identified a serious problem and are seeking to turn it around

    build culture !

    🐖💨

the Vikings just forced their GM

I don’t k ow much about him – but I serious question firing a GM in almost February. At least we are ahead of did one team in terms of the draft

Nice write, Mike. Good luck with your teeth.

Did Haf choose his Asst. HC?

  5. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Piggy, I didn’t know that stat, but I am not surprised. I posted the other day about the Packers draft picks.

In 2022 the packers had 11 draft picks and 7 of the 11 are starters. Also, 3 of those 7 starters are OL who were drafted in the 3rd, 4th and 7th rounds.

The Packers have not always hit on all of their picks, but who has? To me the philosophy of building with the draft and supplementing with med level free agents is a solid strategy.

They have been consistently good and even considered contenders in the last few years with, if not the youngest, but one of the youngest rosters in the NFL.

Trading for Parsons was completely out of their realm of operating, and back fired on them this year. Giving up picks is really uncommon for them.

  7. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Bookman – yeah, Pack thought they were one player away. I think they thought Parsons was going to make more of an impact and then he got hurt and that was that

  8. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think Sully comes from good stock. He’ll add some good players, then we’ll see how good the coaching is. I would not be surprised if we’re competing for the playoffs with 2 games to go.

Does anyone else think we might have something in Quinn Ewers? He now has video to watch every play he played. What was good what was bad?

I like him as a potential QB.

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

He is worth investing the effort. IMO. Maybe through all of this we hit on a QB without even knowing it.

Excited to see if the new staff sees something in him.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I doubt Quinn Ewers is the franchise QB we’ve been searching for since Marino, but there’s a lot to like about him. IMO, it’s worth developing him with the upside he’s shown to date.

And again, JMO, but I believe he’s shown more upside than Skylar Thompson, Mike White, and Zach Wilson.

I like the idea of taking two LBs early

lots of trades in this mock

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m curious, Pigster… why go with two (or any?) LBs so early when we already have Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson in the fold and under contract for ’26?

We’re talking about 312 total tackles between the two of them last season, and that is absurdly awesome!

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Before PFR made a pay-site out of StatHead, I could just go to PFR and tell you exactly how many times in history two LBs combined for over 300 tackles in a single season.

I’m not paying for yet ANOTHER pay-site… it’s getting ridiculous these days!

I CAN tell ya this… it’s quite rare to have two LBs combine for over 300 tackles in a single season.

As such, I do not understand why so many believe we Phins should draft a LB so early in the ’26 Draft.

I’m not dead against it as it pertains to BPA, but I’m trying to find the deeper logic. We don’t suck at LB, but we do at almost every other position (minus DT and RB).

  10. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Over the last 2 seasons, Tyrel Dodson leads the Miami Dolphins in INTs (4). And dating back to 2023, only one Phins player had more INTs than Dodson: Jalen Ramsey (5).

  11. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Both Jordyn Brooks (All-Pro 1st team) and Tyrel Dodson will be 28 years old during the ’26 season… that’s PRIME for a LB. They are a TEAM together, and have been for a very long time.

Again, I don’t understand why the pundits/mocksters/analysts think we should replace them when we have a plethora of other positions to address… some with GAPING holes.

  12. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

If ANY pundit/mockster/analyst thinks we’re going to go TE in the 1st round? Never, ever take them seriously… ever again.

They are either clowning us, or really are that foolish.

Ya don’t BUILD or REBUILD through the TE position. I don’t care if it’s Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzo, Jason Swift-Kelce, or whoever.

  13. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    piggy,

I’ve talked about Nwankpa before. I have no idea where he’s projected, but I’ll be shocked if he lasts that long. He’s a good player. I think he’s easily a 3rd rounder. Nice pick but I’m way off if he lasts until the end of the draft.
