How will Dolphins approach QB position in 2026?

You all know how I feel here, I couldn’t possibly make it more obvious than I already have, but one of the QB’s pictured above just irritates me more than anything. Take the $99M hit and make a clean break from the franchise mope.I seriously can’t imagine anyone here who wants see Tua under center for the Miami Dolphins in 2026. That being said, someone has to be the QB next season. While there are plenty of veteran QB’s that will be available, I’d prefer not to spend money there. Everyone and their mother in the NFL business lazily insists we’re going to pick up QB Malik Willis formerly of the Green Bay Packers. What deep thinkers these talking heads are. Hmmm, Malik Willis played for the Green Bay Packers and looked nice in a couple of games, clearly the Dolphins will pay him $20M per while at the same absorbing a $99M cap hit from QB Tua Tagovialoa. Yeah, NO!\

I must have said it at least 50 times, but here goes . . . Draft a QB in the 2026 Draft and maybe pick up an inexpensive QB as well, no more than a couple of million. We have more important places we need to spend and this season will not necessarily be about winning, and next years draft will have a good amount of QB draft options, a legit opportunity to grab a franchise QB. To be honest, in the little we got to see of QB Quinn Ewers, as a green rookie, he looked better than the 6 year veteran he replaced, brought energy and a cool headed vibe to the team. It definitely didn’t seem like it was too much for him, he showed definite arm talent, he showed some smarts, he showed some athleticism, and showed some of the green-ness I mentioned by sometimes getting frozen in the headlights and taking sacks. I think he has enough to work with though and should be given a fair opportunity to compete for the starting job.

As far as the draft is concerned, the one true franchise QB available won’t be available to us, Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza. He would be a great story here in Miami, a Miami native of Cuban descent. It’s not happening though, and the next best option in some opinions is Alabama QB Ty Simpson. He’s likely going to be a 1st RD pick, but again, it won’t be us. We need to address EDGE, CB, S and as I mentioned, we can get our franchise guy in ’27. The two QB’s I pictured are guys who don’t really stand out as elite prospects, Miami U’s Carson Beck and Penn State’s Drew Allar. Both are bigger guys, Beck 6’4 220 and Drew Allar 6’5 235. There may be better prospects like Trinidad Chambliss or Garret Nussmeier or Cade Klubnik, but I’d prefer a bigger, taller QB. Is it possible that either Beck or Allar develop to be a starting QB in the NFL, sure? Is it likely, probably not. On the flip side, I think they have as good a chance as anyone not named Fernando Mendoza of becoming a starter though.

Quinn Ewers was once a top QB prospect. Granted, that was coming out of High School, but his poor Senior Year really hurt him in the draft, if he had a better Senior Season, he almost surely would have been an easy 2nd or 3rd RD pick. He performed well in some big road games, in 2023 against Alabama, and in 2024 against Michigan. He’s a tough competitor and will play through pain. He has a quick release and can make most NFL throws. He has enough arm to sling it, and he can show nice touch on passes as well. Not sure that either Drew Allar or Carson Beck could beat out Quinn right away, but Allar seems like a decent project QB that could end up being a bargain if you can get him after RD 3. Allar has elite arm strength and can make absolutely any throw on the field. He’s been compared to Joe Flacco, and Flacco had plenty of NFL success, including a Super Bowl ring. Carson Beck is another tough competitor. He has plenty of college game experience, and he competed in the College Playoffs and did well until facing the eventual Champs, Indiana. He’d probably be more ready than Allar for sure, and could potentially challenge Quinn immediately. I do believe Allar has more upside though while Beck has a higher floor at the moment.

The big question of course will be if the Dolphins will actually purge themselves of QB Tua Tagovailoa. There are $99M reason’s not to, but I personally don’t think that should factor in. I’d prefer to swallow the entire cap hit now, I don’t foresee a trade and then if we do trade, we’ll have to absorb some cap hit next season and pay off a ton of it to make a team take Tua off of our hands, so releasing him outright before June is the way to do it. If we cut come post June 1st, I don’t know the exact dead cap hit number but it’s around $30M. I’d rather save the cap for next season, eat it this season when we’re just beginning to build. That doesn’t mean we’re going to be awful this season, but I don’t expect us to be playoff contenders in 2026 unless Buffalo goes really backwards, and New England takes a step or two back as well. The Jets have an opportunity to jump ahead with tons of draft capital and lots of cap space. That’s of course if they get it right for a change, but they have a better chance with picks #2 and #16 in RD 1, and then picks #33 and #44 in RD 2, a 4th RD pick, 2 compensatory 5th RD picks, a 6th RD pick from Buffalo and then three 7th RD picks.

2026 will be about setting a new culture here in Miami, and that starts with GM Jon-Eric Sullivan (Sully) showing fans he’s not Chris Grier and can actually draft well for this team and help fill out our roster with guys who can help right away without trading away draft capital to do so. I can’t wait to see how we fill out our roster both in the draft with our 1st RD pick, 2nd RD pick, three 3rd RD picks, andf then a 4th, 5th and 7th, as well as the Undrafted Free Agents we sign out of necesity with very little money available to spend. We will be jettisoning some players off this roster without a doubt, more than likely Tua, Tyreek and possibly Bradley Chubb as well. It’s also possible we could trade S Minkah Fitzpatrick, which would be ironic because it appears as if Minkah is actually happy and wants to be here, which would undoubtedly make me chuckle if he were to get traded for some valuable 2027 Draft capital. Just looking so forward to going about things the right way, it’s been more than two and a half decades since we have.

How would you feel if a masked and armed group of men came into your home and grabbed your grandma and hauled them to “jail”? These guys actual put on “police” patches to confuse residents and make them think they’re local law enforcement. They also refuse to go without masks….just like all other law enforcement.

Whether you personally like Sanctuary Cities or not….local individuals decided that’s what their city will do. It’s not your business. It’s all political. Why is ICE being sent to Democratic Cities who don’t even come close to the crime levels of some Republican areas? This isn’t about the law. It’s about curtailing voting so the Republicans have a shot at winning the midterms. Period. That’s it.

I believe in legal immigration, but I’d be just fine with throwing out everybody who’s here illegally. That doesn’t mean I condone what these guys have been doing. They instigated these two shootings. They were both because of the guys holding the guns. People interfere with law enforcement all the time in our Country, but they don’t get killed for it.

It’s ridiculous to tell people not to interfere with law enforcement when law enforcement are the ones breaking the laws. I’d do the same. It’s called being an American citizen

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

      What laws are they breaking?

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

They are police, so you’re no longer confused. These are illegals and a huge number of them are using welfare fraud which is not ok when Americans are trying to survive this economy. If you don’t want your home that you used illegal funds to rent or buy to be broken into, GO HOME. That’s the answer.

Local individuals DO NOT decide federal law. you may want to educate yourself in this conversation just a little bit. Democrat areas have huge crime problems. they just aren’t enforced. That doesn’t make for less crime, that’s just allowing crime. Lots of data on that if you want even more education on a topic you have no clue about.

If those people didn’t try to riot for illegals stealing from Americans, they would have been safe at home. Too bad, not sad. They broke the law in interfering with legal immigration enforcement. You are absolutely clueless.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

So, it’s ok to Obstruct Justice, commit Aggravated Assault on officers, commit Battery and Aggravated Battery on officers, Carry a Weapon while committing a Felony, Damage Government Property, Grand Theft of Firearms, etc.

But these officers better toe the line.

      Got it

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Got some keyboard warriors who wouldn’t want you to dismiss ‘the lived experience’ of illegals and frauds but know exactly how a cop in dangerous situations should act within seconds. The entire Goode situation lasted 2 seconds from the time she pulled out until she passed him. No one here has ever been in that situation, but these keyboard warriors know how they’d handle it. By allowing the illegals to steal more from us.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They didn’t start wearing masks until people started identifying them and putting their names and addresses out on social media. This put them and their families in danger from the crazies 24/7. All those who get ID’d end up having to uproot their family and move.

      What would you do?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Lastly, how many grandma’s have they picked up? Did they not commit a crime? A criminal is a criminal.

  2. Randy's avatar Randy says:

There is an estimate that DHS/ICE has violated about 100 court orders. They also refused to allow local law enforcement officials holding a court order to legally enter a crime scene. They removed evidence from a crime scene. They have themselves used vehicles to ram individuals. They have physically assaulted many citizens without reason or recourse. Wearing a badge doesn’t give you the right to do whatever you want.

If you actually cared about what’s going on, it wouldn’t be very hard to find these things out.

  3. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

That’s simply not a significant reason to wear masks. All law enforcement have to deal with that sort of thing. I dealt with it being a government employee. And, the government does the same damn thing. Why is it okay when they do it?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Is there a law against it?

I didn’t know you got protested, frozen water bottles thrown at you and your name and address posted online when you were a government employee. Sorry to hear that.

  4. Randy's avatar Randy says:

blah blah blah. I worked closely with cops for decades. Most of them were idiots, but they did everything they could NOT to pull their guns. I was in situations where lives were at stake and split second decisions needed to be made. Nobody was ever shot. I am no keyboard warrior. I worked on the front line with cops…and they sent me in first in many situations

  5. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I worked in the government for many years. And yes….we were always held to a higher standard than “the public”. That’s just the way it is and everybody who works for the government knows it. We don’t get to behave like the public.

Anytime a government official kills a citizen in the line of duty there should be severe consequences

    —–

There was severe consequences. They FAFO.

Also, is Obstructing Justice not a crime anymore?

This is not protesting, it’s Obstruction of Justice. BTW, for the nurse, carrying a firearm while committing a crime is another felony charge.

    ———–

shooter had already put himself in harms way

Putting themselves in harms way is what law enforcement officers do every day they put that uniform on and go to work. They want to go home to their families at night also. Stay out of their fucking way, obey their orders and people won’t get hurt.

    ______

Severe consequences for the officers, not the perpetrators. Interfering and obstruction isn’t a death sentence. Arrest them instead of playing patticakes. Alex Pretti was shot in the back while on the ground surrounded by agents. He wasn’t a threat and had been disarmed. The agent who shot the lady in the car got in front of her car and had a history of bad decision making around cars. Justify murder all you want. Those two people were absolute failures as human beings, but they didn’t deserve a death sentence. They didn’t commit crimes equal to death.

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    New Age,

”backing me up”? No. I was backing them up. When a call came in that required a well check. I was the guy who the cops called to go with them. I was the guy who went in first to talk to the individuals. I literally had cops stand there and point at the door and say something like: “This one’s yours.” while they stayed outside.

The running joke was that all I had was a pencil and a notepad while they had guns, spray, bullet proof vests and cuffs….and we laughed when they’d say I was a ninja with a pencil. Maybe you should check and see how many social workers are killed each year “in the line of duty” before we start putting cops on a pedestal.

  8. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    New Age,

Please….the “cop” broke protocol by putting himself in front of the vehicle. He then shot her as she drove past him…through her side window. How is that a split second decision and a good shooting? He caused it by his total inability to follow protocol and then discharging his weapon when it wasn’t necessary.

The car would have missed him if he’d simply either not put himself in front of the vehicle or simply stepped aside when she tried to drive off….as cops are educated to do. Maybe if he wasn’t busy trying to get it all on his phone he would’ve been aware enough to either not put himself in front of a vehicle or step to his right. Either would have prevented the whole thing.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

He had 2 seconds to know if she would drive past or drive over. That’s just not enough time. He was jawing with her girlfriend or whatever and walked to the front instead of the back. That’s doesn’t give her the right to just try and drive over him to escape. She could have just kept the car in park, right? She was parked and put her car in drive and drove forward, right?

  9. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Why are there protests now anyway?

Clinton deport 12.5m illegals with 0 protests

Bush deported 10.3 illegals with 0 protests

Obama deported 5.2m illegals with 0 protests

Trump has deported just over 1.5m with over 300 protests

    Why is that?

  10. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Here’s a quick story because I get a little salty about this stuff as I listen to how cops are venerated.

I worked with a woman. I met with her one day, and she told me that her boyfriend with whom she’d just had a baby less than a month earlier had visited her the night before. He sat down with their child, put a knife to the baby’s throat and told her that if she left him…which she said she wanted to do…he’d killed her, the baby and then himself.

I called the police and long story short he was sent to prison. During a normal cell search they found a bible he had and in it were my kids names next to the “eye for an eye” phrase. I was informed, and had to have regular cop drive bys once he was released. That is the kind of stuff lots of government officials deal with, but we don’t get to act.

And, after I reported him his family called my supervisor with “concerns” about how I was behaving with my client…suggesting I was being sexually inappropriate because I sat on the same couch. Upshot, my employer told me to close the case. I said fuck no but was advised to do otherwise.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

That sucks Randy, scary! I have had 2 guys I really had to worry about who I had to arrest and put back in jail after skipping bond. One was a serious thug drug dealer and the other was just one crazy fuck.

The crazy fuck was shot and killed like 6 months after getting out of prison by his own brother. The drug dealer, who tried pulling a gun on me and my boss, also was found guilty of additional charges of Aggravated Assault against me and my boss. He went to prison for 8 years but only served 6. Then about 3 years ago, I got a letter from the state telling me he was being released from prison. My heart and stomach sank. He was only out a little over a year and now is back in prison serving 15 years.

While we’re all throwing shit out there, I’ll throw this . . .

For those of you blaming law enforcement, ICE, Republicans, whoever . . .

Would YOU interfere with ICE and get up in their face?

Would you want anyone from your family to behave like that?

    • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I’m blaming individuals who made bad decisions. The ICE agents and the agitators. The agitators are mentally ill morons, but they didn’t deserve to be executed for their crimes.

  12. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

Would you get involved if one of them had ahold of your 5 year old by the collar trying to use him as bait? Would you get involved if an ICE agent shoved your wife back 5 feet onto the ice? What would you do if men in masks came to your door and forced their way in without any legal right to do so?

I think it’s pretty rich that some of the very people who say the government will never come into their homes to take their guns…but it’s okay if they do it to take a family member.

  13. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

For me, it’s pretty simple- when law enforcement discharge their weapon they should be held to a higher standard for use than your average citizen, not a lower one.

If the gal in the car was killed in an altercation with a normal person, the shooter would have been charged with manslaughter at least because she was already past him when he discharged his weapon, multiple times. Kinda like the guy in Florida who shot another guy after the guy had pushed him to the ground.

I haven’t watched the video of the 2nd killing. From what I read, he was shot in the back while face down on the ground. What more is there to say?

ICE agents have significantly less training than local law enforcement. This is an issue.

  14. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I will also say that being here “illegally” is a red heron. People who have overstayed a visa or something like that is a civil matter. If you entered the US illegally, it’s a federal crime but a misdemeanor. Coming back in a subsequent time is a felony.

So, this idea that these folks are all “criminals” is like saying anybody who has jaywalked or sped is a criminal.

  15. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Also, do you know that they are not deporting every illegal despite popular belief???

I know first hand. I have posted bond for 3 illegals in the last 6 months who did not get deported.

We do a “full cash collateral bond” on them. They pay the bond fee and then put up the full amount of the bond in cash as collateral. When the case is closed, whoever put up the collateral gets it all back.

All 3 illegals had an ICE hold. We posted their bond. ICE came and picked them up from the jail and took them to a processing center. One lady, an illegal from Honduras charged with Larceny back in late October, came into the office 3 months later (last month) with her cosigner to get the collateral back as she was sentenced in her case and it was now closed. She said ICE held her for a week, gave her some immigration paperwork and scheduled her an immigration hearing in 2027. She’s been here only 3 years and had no papers from immigration prior. She literally swam the river, escaped detection and was 100% undocumented. The same thing happened with the other 2, though their charges were just for Driving Without a DL. All 3 were found guilty of their charges but did not get deported.

There are those who do get deported. If they do, we file a motion with the courts to discharge our bond. Once they discharge our bond, we return the collateral to the cosigner.

I’ll tell you who cares about who the President and who follows the Party line. Biden was President, who protested from the right side during his 4 years? Trump is President and the left goes fucking apeshit. We voted to fix the immigration problem and the Democrats go right up against it

  17. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Thanks, but my point was actually that there are lots of folks in society who do dangerous jobs, but I never even got to carry a weapon let alone shoot somebody. And, if I had, I’d have lost my job at a minimum and probably would’ve gone to jail.

I know a couple bailbondsman…I worked with them a lot because my clientele was always getting in trouble. Yet another job that carries a lot of danger. Did you get to wear a mask? I know I didn’t. Lol

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

No, I do wear body armor and carry a taser. My boss is the only one who carries a firearm on pickups. We can’t display a firearm when arresting someone who is unarmed. It’s only for our protection. We can display and use our tasers on idiots and have, though I have never used mine.

  19. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

One of my coworkers who took over my job after I moved to a different position asked our employer if they’d purchase body armor for him. They literally laughed at him and said he could have it if he paid for it himself, and he could assure them it wouldn’t pose a “threat” to our clients or possibly trigger them.

Needless to say, he did not get body armor. We joked that he just needed to request a really thick date book. Lol

In 31 years, I never once had to resort to violence. And I’m very happy I didn’t.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Reason I was so worried about that thug was I purposely tried to break his arm. I did to the thugs arm what Jayden Daniels did to his own arm but not as bad. It was the only way I could get him to release the gun.

I could see how showing up as a case worker wearing body armor could be triggering. lol

    Randy,

I’ve had to resort to violence multiple times dealing with mentally patients. Be very thankful that you dealt with people who could be talked down. Honestly, I don’t care one iota about felony or misdemeanor as these people abuse our welfare system and steal jobs. I don’t care about the simple-minded people who protest to keep them here as Americans suffer through Biden’s and Trump bad decisions. These people need to be kicked out and I’m fine with the whatever means are needed. Go Home! You’re not wanted here.

  22. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I completely understand the position cops are put into. It’s not about that. I had a guy come within about 3 inches of my throat with a knife. I was able to get him to give up the knife, but if I had needed to break his arm, so be it. Sometimes force is necessary and appropriate. Just like cops, my every move and decision were dissected. I saw people lose their jobs for a whole lot less than these guys have done. These guys didn’t even get taken off the job. Seriously? Good or bad….that is just part of doing your job. Cops playing the victim role just doesn’t sit right with me.

The issue is the level of violence commiserate with the crime and the “professionals” whomever they are…doing only what is required, necessary and appropriate. Law enforcement is given the responsibility to do things to citizens that others can’t. It must be wielded judiciously and prudently. My God, I wanted to beat the shit out of many assholes I had to deal with over the years. Managing your own emotions is required. I’m sure you already know that. Lol

  23. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    New Age,

Yep, I hear ya. My point isn’t that I’m for or against what’s going on. What I am not for is federal agents killing American citizens. At best…both killings were questionable. I am not a fan of protests, but I absolutely support the right to do so. And, with that, we have seen unruly protesting for literally decades. Jan 6th anyone? Pardons? Any thoughts on those folks who stuck their noses into law enforcement being pardoned? These two folks were hardly the first or even remotely close to the most threatening. We have learned a lot about how to “police” protests. What we’ve seen here in MN has been something else.

And really…for what? Deporting people who’ve never broken any laws? It can be and has been done for years in a much more appropriate manner. It’s easy to cry “don’t break the law and you won’t get shot” when it’s not your neck getting stepped on. Sorta like how cops say don’t judge us because you ain’t us. It’s all about an ox being gored.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I hear ya back. I don’t want them killed either, but many people think the right to protest is some get out of free jail card to do whatever you like. That’s just not the case. These people are being pushed to provoke and push limits. That’s a bad idea against armed people. They have rights but they are putting themselves at risk. That’s not intelligent. Bad things happen.

In a perfect set up, Minnesota leadership would promote the law and allow these illegals to be taken from jails, etc instead of letting them out. They would already be putting these Somalian fraudsters into jails. But Minnesota leadership doesn’t give a damn about crime or their people honestly. At least their normal citizenry. So other things have to be done. Like in DC and other places where their political leadership thinks breaking the law helps their options moving forward.

We’ve already seen how much fraud and illegal shit goes on in your state. You should be at the forefront of the people looking to get rid of these fraudsters who steal from you and all the rest of us. If it was up to me, your state wouldn’t get another federal dollar until every piece of garbage illegal was gone from there. Not one cent from the rest of us until we’re sure you can manage federal dollars again responsibly. Basically never in your fraud-ridden mini Somalian craphole.

  24. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    New Age,

I could have easily stepped out of the way of that car. In fact, if you watch it, I think he purposely gets bumped but moves enough not to possibly get run over. 2 seconds? We expect QBs to read a field and throw a football in 2 seconds so yeah…I think that’s plenty of time. Adding that his training dictates you don’t fire on vehicles attempting to leave the area. It’s not about what she did. He’s the professional. It’s about what he did in response.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

It’s possible. I think he needs investigated obviously because it happened. I just don’t feel like I’m qualified to judge in that instance. His commanding officer and others need to answer for his actions as well.

On the other hand, I think she was willing to run him over to get out of there. I also think you should fire on vehicles leaving an area. She was a danger to anyone of the road at that point with her terrible decision making. I’ve seen so many videos of people leaving areas and putting so many others at risk. If someone is willing to hit cops, which she did, to leave an area what else was she willing to do? Probably a lot tbh.

I’m not always for cops and they need investigated for any shootings. But I’m also not at all for anyone who protests for illegals who steal from Americans. They can go to hell quite honestly.

  25. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    New Age,

For the record…I still claim Iowa citizenship! Lol

MN is very progressive. But, you’d be hard pressed to convince me that some of the same sorts of things aren’t going on in every State. Again, it’s all about whose pocket the money ends up in and who has the power to keep it quiet.

Just wait…Trump will start his very own Saudi Arabian sanctuary city very soon. He’ll just charge everyone a billion dollars to live there. Oh…and another million for a ride on his tax free jet. Lol

I could be wrong, but it appeared that she had turned her wheels and was simply looking to leave. Saying she had any intention to run him over is a bit out there, but I can’t red her mind or his. And, just seconds before they were trying to breach her car they were telling her to leave. So, unclear orders from law enforcement that changed very quickly. Should we give her the grace to say maybe she didn’t know what she should do? We seem to want to give that same grace to the officer…why not the untrained citizen?

They teach law enforcement not to fire at vehicles trying to flee because it actually increases the likelihood of bad things happening to the cops, the perpetrators and others. You have their car description and license…you can go find them. There’s no need to escalate the situation with gun fire…unless you believe that individual may be going immediately to do harm to someone.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

She definitely was out of her element, and I don’t think she was meaning to harm him. She did sideswipe him, and he may have leaned into it. I just feel like she was going on animalistic fear behavior at that point. Which is dangerous. She shouldn’t have been there. She should have turned that car off. She made a bad decision, many of them, and it is a terrible tragedy. Like I said, he needs investigated for his actions too.

On law enforcement, it encourages that behavior though. I know the training but people willing to do those things will do it at the next place you find them. These people are already willing to harm others with their 2-ton vehicles of destruction. Just letting them leave to do whatever until you decide it’s safer just doesn’t seem a lot safer to me. I’d probably be more for that training if criminals actually stayed in jail.

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – To me, if this stuff was happening all over the country then you can dig in and say ICE tactics aren’t working. The problem is, they’re operating all over the USA, and the liberal hotspot of Minneapolis and their State and local government enlisted their citizens to fight ICE at every turn. If what I say is true, and it is true, then why blame ICE, or Trump? I blame Tim Walz, I blame Jacob Frey, and mostly, I blame the idiots who put themselves in harms way by sticking their noses where it didn’t belong

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

At least we’re finally making changes that let us prosecute people who shoplift instead of just letting them get away with it over and over.

First hand experience: my local grocery store I’m walking out one day and a security guard is yelling at a lady with a full shopping cart loading it into the back of her vehicle. He’s screaming “never come back’. She hurriedly loads up and takes off.

I just sat and watched bemused (I was waiting to get to my car). He walks up to me and apologizes and says she has been in the store numerous times fills up her cart and just walks out with the merch. He says he’s been instructed not to do anything because they won’t prosecute.

He literally has to watch her steal and let her go. And this has not been an isolated thing the last 4 or 5 years.

But Sacramento County has finally enacted some new laws that allow us to prosecute theft that is under the grand theft threshold.

It’s pretty brilliant actually. If someone steals something, they can be punished. It’s revolutionizing the way this particular kind of crime is addressed.

We’ve got the smartest lawmakers in the country.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

It blows my mind they allow that stuff in CA. Allowing huge tax resources like Target and other companies to leave just because you won’t prosecute criminals. Prop 47 ended up releasing about 13,000 criminals and unsurprisingly, burglaries went up about 5%. This stuff isn’t hard to figure out.

  30. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

Well, you’re just wrong. They aren’t doing these huge surges and using these tactics everywhere. That’s not true. And, the stated purpose for these huge surges was to get those horrible criminals we always hear about but never see getting arrested.

For whatever reason, certain cities have decided to be sanctuary cities. Whether you or I agree with it is irrelevant. They get to decide. The citizens of that city chose that path. And, the State is still cooperating with the feds in other ways. This false narrative that sanctuary cities are using their status to protect horrible rapists and murderers is just false.

Texas and Florida are numbers 1 and 2 as far as illegal immigrants. California is just barely ahead of Texas. So, why aren’t these huge surges of agents not being used in those States? It’s all political.

  34. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – Surge or no surge, has there been any other incident where people got in the face of ICE agents and were killed? We can go back and forth on this all day, but whether it’s as big an operation, slightly smaller or a lot smaller, their presence is in other states and they just aren’t meeting any kind of resistance like what they’re getting in MN. Sorry, but that’s how it is.

  35. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

it’s actually much bigger…not a little. There were more federal “law enforcement” officials in Minneapolis than there were Minneapolis cops. By far. It’s not the same. And like it or not people have the right to protest, so it doesn’t absolve professionals from behaving appropriately if things go South. It just doesn’t. If it did, any President could basically do anything they wanted to do in any State and take control by simply asserting that the Feds can do whatever they want. You know…like during upcoming elections….which is what this is all about.

I’m not excusing people from acting like idiots during protests, but it’s comical how it’s okay for certain protesters and not others. I seem to recall Trump and his sycophants railing about how the woman was shot during the Jan 6th insurrection. Didn’t they call her a patriot or hero or something? Was that not a protestor getting what they asked for? The hypocrisy is pretty blatant.

Couple of points of clarification – In the Goode shoot, the first round was through the lower right hand corner of the windshield. Next two were through the side window.

Most agencies are trained not to shoot at fleeing vehicles UNLESS they think their lives or the lives of others are in danger. Not a high bar to defend.

  41. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MIKEe,

Really? That tussle with Pretti wasn’t even close to as violent as most of the fights I had with my brothers. 5 booted up law enforcement and one tall, lanky guy who is face down on the ground and has already been disarmed deserves 10 shots in his back when all he did was try to help a woman up who was assaulted by law enforcement? Lots of folks carry here in MN. True law enforcement would know that and act accordingly. It’s not a big thing here in MN. It’s something you’re aware of even as a citizen…somebody might always be carrying. It doesn’t give you the right to kill them.

  43. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

”all that ammo”? Most people who carry also carry an extra clip. That was yet another exaggeration from DOJ to promote their telling of the story. He was carrying what most would be. But, ya know what would be nice…is if we had access to the actual evidence from the crime scene to figure these things out.

  44. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – he had his gun loaded with a 12 shot magazine plus 2 more 12 shot magazines. Who are these people you know that carry that much on their person?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I have never carried more than 1 mag and that was loaded in the gun. I know a lot of people who carry and don’t carry extra mags, even my boss on a pickup. I don’t think I personally know anyone who carries more than 1 on their person. Now, I may have an extra loaded mag and a box of rounds in my gun case in the trunk. Though, that is just incase I am out running around and decide to pop into the gun range.

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Only thing worse than running out of ammo in gun fight is not having a gun at all.

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – I know we’re talking on a blog, but I find it extremely hard to believe that you would approach an officer in a situation where tension is high as it was there and approach an officer or officers after you already interfered with what they were doing and you came off like trouble, that you would engage them with angry language and get up in their face with that loaded gun and extra clips and take your chances of getting blown up. I just don’t think you would do that. Tell me if I’m legit wrong

  48. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

Unfortunately, in my youth I may have been on the wrong end of “policing” as have many in my family. One of my brothers was viciously beaten by several cops. I had another brother busted for driving under the influence by a cop we all knew was a coke head. Police are far from perfect…so I guess the question for me is why are we holding citizens to the same standards as trained, tax paid employees who are supposed to be held to a higher standard?

I am not a naturally violent person, but we’d have to see what happens if someone put hands on my child or tried to come in my home without a legal right. I’m good at talking my way out of things, but you never know.

Minnesota is actually also a no limit State. You can legally carry as much as you like. You can go buy lots of holsters with room for extra clips. It happens all the time. It’s just a misdirection move to go to this stuff.

OK…sorry, maybe I let it get to me too much since I’m living in it. To me? It’s all about the $$$. Get into a bidding war, and I’m out quicker than shit through a goose. We cannot afford a high-priced FA, much less a high-priced FA with only 3 starts since becoming a Packer.

I honestly don’t see it happening unless he comes hella cheap… and I don’t believe he will come hella cheap.

IF David Bailey falls to R1P10 to the Bungles* as Joel Klatt mocks below, we would be absolutely foolish not to attempt a trade up to land him.

The Bungles* desperately need O-Line help to protect Burrow. So… WHAT IF we traded Austin Jackson to the Bungles* to move up one mere spot, from R1P11 to R1P10? We’d likely get another draft pick (I dunno, maybe an additional 3rd rounder) to boot.

Conversely, we DESPERATELY need EDGE help. We could draft Austin Jackson’s replacement this Draft…

What do you guys think about that??? Oh, and Joel Klatt personally knows Hafner… has some good things to say about him…
