Dolphins trade back and then trade up in RD 1

It wasn’t the guy I expected us to draft, but it was the position I wanted without question. The O-line is a joke, we have 2 players on that line that are solid in LT Patrick Paul and C Aaron Brewer. That’s it! Jon-Eric Sullivan’s first move in the 2026 NFL Draft was trading back from #11 to #12, one spot with the Dallas Cowboys. We acquired two 5th RD picks, #177 and #180 to move back one spot, and break the hearts of quite a few fans here who wanted S Caleb Downs. One guy who probably was thrilled with the pick was RB De’Von Achane, and another guy was certainly QB Malik Willis. I’m looking forward to having these massive bookends on our O-line, it’s been way too long since this O-line was a strength, and not coincidentally, way too long since this team was a legit contender. Patrick Paul at 6’7 326 and Kadyn Proctor 6’7 352.

Jon-Eric Sullivan’s next trade in the draft was a trade up, as the Dolphins moved from RD1 Pick #30 to Pick #27 by trading Pick #30 and Pick #90 (RD 3) for the #27 Pick and and a 4th RD pick #138. The Dolphins at #27 selected San Diego St. Cornerback Chris Johnson. The 6’0 193lb CB will undoubtedly be pushed to start at the very important CB position. I had hoped we never traded up in this draft, I want more picks, but we really didn’t lose any picks, we just moved back from RD 3 to RD 4. Listen, it’s way too early to judge picks, but I would say the majority of us figured we’d go O-line and CB, and that’s precisely what we did. If/when S Caleb Downs is a perennial All Pro, and Kadyn Proctor is 6’7 380 and the fattest turnstile in Dolphins history, go ahead, pound your chest because you were right. On the other hand, if OT Kadyn Proctor is a motivated player here, and is mauling defenders at the LOS and downfield with regularity and provides solid protection for our QB, I won’t have a care in the world what Caleb Downs is doing.

Day 2 coming up tonight at 7:30 will have the Dolphins waiting 11 spots at Pick #43 and then we’ll have three selections in RD 3, #75, 87 and 94. I won’t be shocked (or disappointed) if we tap a guy for the O-line again in RD 3. LT Patrick Paul, LG Jonah Savaiinaea, C Aaron Brewer, RG Kadyn Proctor, RT Austin Jackson (if healthy). 2 gaping holes bigger than the space between Michael Strahan’s two front teeth that needed to be filled. I personally do not want to hand Big Jonah that job, and I also didn’t want to see OG Jamaree Salyer start at RG. I’m aware we could have selected an OG later and we still might do that. How many times have we been failed by the O-line? How many times have we had to watch an injury torpedo the success of that unit? Two injuries? If not injuries, just out and out subpar play? It’s been a nightmare, and we took one step in attempting to fix that. You all saw the run on the O-line, it was real, and it will probably continue.

I think we’ll probably grab a WR and possibly a TE as well, but where, who knows? I’m curious to see if we move back again in RD 2, that wouldn’t surprise me. We definitely need EDGE help so RD 2 would be a good place to grab one. Players still available at the EDGE position are Zion Young, Cashius Howell, T.J. Parker, Gabe Jacas, Derrick Moore and R. Mason Thomas. We’ll see if we nab one of those guys in RD 2, and then maybe find a WR and another O-lineman. I know some of you love Penn St. EDGE Dani Dennis-Sutton. Maybe we take him. Maybe he would help you guys recover from us not taking Caleb Downs. I know you guys liked him, I respect that, but how did he all of a sudden become a Hall of Famer? I’ll wait for your responses later!

What do you guys think we do in RD 2? Move up? Move back? What position do we target in RD 2? Then what do you think we do in RD 3? Let me know, I want to hear . . .

    We select… another commercial! LOL

I just want to apologize to the blog. I FINALLY figured out what “THE BIG PICTURE” is.

Sully and Hafley are going to enter the Dolphins into a professional flag football league. I should have seen it earlier.

  3. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We select Max Llewellyn, EDGE, Iowa

  4. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Unless we do something even more foolish, our ’26 draft is OVER.

  5. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Gotta be honest, gents… this is — on its face — one of the worst drafts I’ve witnessed for our Phins over the last 20 years.

We don’t know what we don’t know, so maybe it turns out to be a VERY good draft after all!

I’ve the patience to see it through. Again… on its face, it looks like shit.

Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee): “You can eat it, but it tastes like shit”.

Going to try and get and hour nap before going into work. Hope it is busy tonight so y’all don’t have to wake up to 100 more posts of me bitching. lol

now we’re expecting 7th rounders to have no flaws?

ever hear of a situational passrusher

LUVED day 1 of our Draft!

Huh(?) on day 2 of our Draft.

WTF(?) on day 3 of our Draft.

Off the cuff Draft grade: C

  9. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Garrett Nussmeier to the Chefs*

  10. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Kevin Coleman, Seydou Traore, and Proctor for 11th pick

  11. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

If our rook LBs are to develop on time, they start this season.

Therefore, I expect us to trade All-Pro Jordyn Brooks and STUD Tyrel Dodson to be traded soon (not today)… for ’27 Draft picks.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I was wondering, if we’d trade after the draft for 2027 picks too

would be fun to watch Brooks and Rodriguez on the field together

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I know! I’d LUV to see Brooks and Rod on the field together!

        Don’t see it happening, man.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And ya TRADE Jordyn Brooks before he takes a snap for us in ’26. Why? God forbid he gets injured playing for us, it will destroy what we can get in return.

  12. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Another thought… perhaps we try to trade Austin Jackson before the season begins?

  13. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

My guy Dallen Bentley to the Broncos.

  14. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d say 4 starters including Kacmarek by default

not bad for a 7 pick draft, but not 13

Chris Bell should start when healthy

    Douglas I have no clue

Taaffe has a chance to start

Kyle Louis ST and some D packages are possible

    the rest mostly developmental

Sully you had one job, don’t fuck it up, only time will, but initial outlook isn’t good

  15. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Red Murdock is ‘Mr. Irrelevant’.

The ’26 NFL Draft is OVER!

  16. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

now go get Michael Trigg UDFA

  17. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Omar needs to bust some balls in the Sully presser

    don’t puss out Omar

Jon, many fans are perplexed by several of your picks, why 3 WRs and 2 TEs?

what was the thinking with Taaffe, is he developmental or do you expect him to be given a shot at PT

you lost many fans with the Caleb Douglas selection, his drops are a concern. What are you looking to get out of him this year

what’s the vision for Kyle Louis

Kevin Coleman is another head scratcher for fans, why him

    why a 2nd TE

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      Comment got stuck again

actually after going thru each pick, now that all the emotion is gone, I feel we could’ve done things differently, but overall it was OK

pick 1 we got a guy with huge upside, that can start right away and should be a short yardage beast

      pick 2 he’s a stud great pick

pick 3 Rodriguez picked a little early, but wouldn’t have been there at 75, could be Zach 2.0 on steroids

pick 4 Douglas his drop rate is concerning, but I’d need to see the drops to find his issue, otherwise he’s the type of receiver Hafley’s dad loved and has been instilled in him

pick 5 Kacmarek, was surprised by the pick, but he’s a guy with 3 hats, and can catch some passes, should be a great addition to the run game

pick 6 Chris Bell, love this pick, he’s got the injury, but when we’re ready to compete in 2027 he should be a stud

we all new this draft was going to mostly be about the first 3 rounds the rest, if the make the team or PS, will be developmental, Taaffe and Louis have a good shot at a fair amount of PT

this was a difficult draft to watch, but now that its over can’t wait to see them at camp

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

adding to the above, character, some tough guys, and leaders

  18. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Wow. They haven’t even put a team on the field as a new regime yet. Can we chill out a bit? Lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

you gotta admit, that was a rough draft

listening to the scouts and Sully the plan is clear, bigger and tougher guys, high character, leaders (team captains) guys that love the game

our 3rd WR drafted Coleman is a shifty player true punt returner, quick choppy steps, one of those slot receivers, that have killed us forever

gonna be interesting to watch a different type of team, one we haven’t seen in Miami for a long time

we’re going to suck this year, player development will be more important than wins

Some good names on the UDFA list so far.

    QB Mark Gronowski, Iowa

    DT Rene Konga, Kentucky

    Edge Mason Reiger

    RB Anthony Hankerson, Oregon State

    RB Le’Veon Moss, Texas A&M

    WR Donavan McCulley, Michigan

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I don’t see us adding anymore UDFA’s as we don’t have the roster space.

With 13 draft picks and 6 UDFA’s they already have to make some trades or cuts to make roster space. That said, they don’t have to do anything until everyone is signed. We won’t see any of our top rookies signed until after we get money on 6/2.

Denver trades Chris Johnson and Chris Bell for Waddle

  24. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Of all the draft picks, none selected had any kind of visit with the Dolphins. Only had pro day interviews with some.

UDFA’s Mark Gronowski and Rene Konga were top 30 visits.

  25. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Konga UDFA- no wonder I always got D’s and F’s when I drafted him…
