Kevin White is a gifted big physical receiver from West Virginia. He is 6-3, 210 lbs. the first thing most people think about White is that he will be a heck of a redzone threat – which is true as evidenced from the photo above. But first let’s talk about his background.
Although a talented high school prospect, White did not have the academic credentials to play Division 1 football out of high school. So he went to Junior College, which probably explains why no one heard about him two years ago. When he transferred to West Virginia he had a modest junior year catching 35 passes for a little over 500 yards. But in his senior season he was as powerful Supernova – he exploded on the scene catching 109 passes, for 1447 yards and 10 TDs. Holy Quasars!!!
That might worry some scouts. He is a bit of a one year wonder. In an interview with Dane Brugler, White explained that in 2013 he didn’t know what to expect but with a lot of offseason training and working on his routes he was able to dramatically improve.
Whatever the reason for his dramatic improvement was, he became quite a threat when he he had the football in his hands in 2014. 10 TDs! I would love to see Ryan Tannehill throwing to a big WR like that who can run after the catch. Considering how many shorter routes the Lazor offense has, this is exactly the kind of receiver the Dolphins can use.
What White does really well is attack the ball at the point of attack. I expect this guy to jump well over 40″ at the combine. He can go up there and fight for the ball. He consistently catches the ball away from his body. He has hands the size of a Zorracian Moon Octopus and uses them to catch the ball.
But its more than raw physical talent. Its technique this guy is a craftsman! He has excellent hand technique. Its going to be really hard for DBs to press White in the NFL. White is a huge Larry Fitzgerald fan and models his game after Fitzgerald and while he is a possession receiver in the same way Fitzgerald is, some scouts think a better comparison is Ashlon Jeffrey.
But if I had to compare Kevin White to any weapon I would compare him to a H-Alpha Cannon! Big Hops, Big Hands, Great Hand Technique – BOOM!!! Anyone knows that is an H-Alpha Cannon.

So are you on board with Kevin White at #14? From what I saw of him on video is he can run routes in our offense – bubble screens, quick slants and outs, go vertical and definitely play the ball on red zone plays.

Schwartz has coached the two best D-lines in the league in DET and BUF in recent years. I happen to think he’s a jerk so I’d pass.

I’m not sure they can. But I would start with the o-line and then d-line and the rest of defense. I know everyone thinks we should dump wallace but I would try and keep him. he needs to have heart to heart and i bet he’ll behave a lot better next year because he’ll be playing for a contract.
He has a big contract already, $30M guaranteed. 5 years $60M overall. He’s super fast and played more physical this year – no doubt. But I saw him give up on passes that weren’t perfect and also walked away from helping Williams get more yards. Landry a second later showed the difference between the two mentalities. Wallace bummed me out. You won’t win with that attitude. Marshawn Lynch won’t be cordial with the media but he plays 100%.

I think Schwartz is a good defensive coach, but the D-line in BUF was awesome because it’s awesome, not because of the coaches. They have a lot of talent on that line.
yea. But my point is Coyle is not a good with the defensive line and LBs. He’s more of a secondary guy. We need someone with experience coaching the d-line.

Top 5 defense for 10 games. What went wrong? Coaching? If you keep thinking that you’d be wrong. They wore down. It was obvious. You don’t go from #8 against the run through 10 games and finish 24th because of coaching.
We’re an undersized defense that is being built in concert with an offense that controls the ball and the tempo of the game. The objective is to score points and make the opponent one dimensional on offense. Then let the dogs out. Whether we’re there yet doesn’t matter, that’s the philosophy. Lot’s of teams use that model.

Doesn’t every team have NFL players playing on their teams? how come their players don’t wear down in December but ours do? And some team deal with injuries better than others. Obviously our FO didn’t plan as well as some of the other teams. Because once injuries hit we were done.

I agree. I don’t like how Wallace ended the year like a jerk and it sucked that Clay had a down year due to injuries (although maybe it gives us a better price) but I’d like to keep this group and add a piece or two along with continuing to build the line. On this side of the ball let’s add, not subtract.
That’s what I’m all about. I don’t want to lose Wallace, and I think they should do everything they can to fix things.

Walford’s one catch doesn’t say anything about the way he performed. It’s true, he had a GREAT week of practice and will no doubt be the first TE taken. I’m loving the kid because he can break down a defender like a wr. Walford was nursing and injury and decided to try and play in the game and made one catch and was nailed by Jordan Hicks but hung on to the ball. I know everyone seems to be high on Clay right now but Walford would give us a Graham or Gronk-like weapon at the TE position.

Clay can play, there’s no doubt but he had a drop in production last year missing two games. The big thing wasn’t so much the yards as much as it was the td’s. He dropped from 6 to 3 td’s on the year. Plus, he didn’t seem to be the threat last year he was the year before. I like Clay but I’m not married to the guy either if we can upgrade the position.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Kevin White from TCU wearing a Fins uni this season.
I like Qunadre Diggs to take over the nickel for Jimmy Wilson. He’s a true nickel who can cover and can tackle much better than Wilson. He’s currently a fifth rd projection.
Problem I see with almost everyone who is on this team is that there’s just about nobody that’s not replaceable and that includes Tanny. When we have conversations about current players on the roster and prospects in the draft or FA the only thing I can say is that I didn’t see anyone play all that outstanding that we can’t afford to lose him.
If Odrick goes we can either pick up someone in FA or the draft and are most likely going to upgrade the position. If we lose Clay you can say the same thing. Clay can play and has been an important part of the offense but 6 td’s in 2013 and 3 in 2014 are hardly numbers that can’t be had by someone else. If we draft a guy like Strong or Hardy at wr we will probably more than replace those numbers.
So, I’m not going to lament the loss of most of these guys when I look at the talent that’s out there. Martrell Spaight from Arkansas is an OLB that would replace Trusnik day one. Granted Trusnik is a sub but Spaight’s an upgrade. Jordan Hicks is another guy who’d put Trusnik on another team. Again, things wouldn’t be as dire as anyone may think if we lose some of these guys:

Hard to judge Clay this year because I’m not sure if he was ever really healthy at all. He played through it, so I give him props for that. Not sure if he’s going to really get a big payday anywhere, but I don’t think we’ll go overboard for him.
I think one of the concerns for Clay coming out of college was his size/durability for the NFL. He seems to have held up pretty well for the most part, but for how long?

I am happy Tyler Varga had a great Senior Bowl. I have been watching him for 4 years here in Connecticut and he can play. He actually would be a good fit for us as Yale plays the spread option. Get rid of DT3 and get Varga in round 5.

He is powerful, quick, can catch and can block.
I’d rather David Johnson or Cameron Stingily to replace DT3. Johnson can more than replace DT3 as a pass catching back and definitely runs with more power than he ever did but even at his size he can still make a move to make people miss. Stingily will just run right over you like Larry Csonka but he’s a one cut guy who can make the first guy miss. Either way, it’s a bug upgrade to the DT3 experiment.
It’s not hard to be a big upgrade over DT3. I know of Johnson and like him. Not familiar with Stingily. I do like Varga but that comes from watching the kid here for the past 4 years. I do think he is a good fit as Yale plays that spread option and Varga was very effective in that set.

Watched some of the Senior Bowl practices earlier. Walford and Dorsett really did well for themselves. I could be wrong, but Walford just doesn’t look fast or explosive to me.
From what I saw of him in the one on one’s they had to tape some defenders ankles when he was finished.
Ah, so more shifty than fast? I saw him catching almost everything, and he uses his size well, but he just didn’t look like he was moving quickly.
I think Hulk becomes Ken in his peaceful, sleepy state. If, however, he dreams (or has a nightmare) about the end of either of the last 2 seasons, he most likely wakes up as the Hulk, and tears shit up!
Sitting here thinking what a tough quandary that Hickey & Aponte have, besides all the team FA talk here, not much is being mentioned of offering Tanny a good contract that will tie him up for the next 5-6yrs. When they do that, then what do they do with FA Matt Moore? He either takes a huge cut, or looks elsewhere.
I’d say he looks elsewhere. The Browns may be interested in Moore instead of resigning Hoyer, then you have teams like the Texans he could compete for a starting role as well.
Folks, we are likely to see a lot of movement on this team after March till June 1.
I think Moore is likely gone. Once we give the big bucks to Tanny, Moore will look elsewhere

Yeah I agree, we need talent upgrades in key areas, but you also have to try and hold onto drafted players and let them develop. Cause as we’ve seen over and over…pricey FA’s from other teams don’t workout more often than they do.
Fortunately we have several 2nd-4th year guys that were drafted by us that can start to peak some.
Mike, it’s too bad we couldn’t have traded the $4M Moore in 2013 while we could have gotten something for him….but who knew Tanny could stand up under that beating and not miss a game…lol
