Wyoming’s Fan Origin

I was born a poor black child……..
Wait wait wrong story!

In Idaho growing up we only had the normal 4 TV channels to watch. Not that we were ever inside to watch them.
Besides that there were no major Sporting franchises within a day’s drive.Wwos
The only thing we had close was The Wonderful World of Sports on Sunday.

$_57Somewhere sometime I got an NFL poster that I put on my wall. It showed each team’s helmet and which division and conference they were in.
My Dad was never a big TV watcher so we didn’t have “Football time” at the house
I’m sure I watched some football in my younger years? And the Fins dominating the NFL at the time makes me think that they were the ones I heard about the most.

If you haven’t figured it out yet I will argue with a tree! And when I was younger I was way worse than I am now. So I argued for the Fins through the Steeler / Dallas / Bronco era’s.  TVantennaNot really being a Football fan it went on that way for years. I learned more about the fins, even started to get up on the roof to turn the antenna when the games were on.

Then it happened! The greatest NFL game ever played!

epic in miami otdThe Epic in Miami is the name given to a National Football League AFC divisional playoff game between the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins that took place on January 2, 1982 in the Miami Orange Bowl.
I had never had my attention riveted to anything like that game did! After the game was over I looked up into a dark house! I hadn’t moved from that spot since halftime.

And I was hooked! Everything Dolphins, all the time.
They even taught me life’s lesson on betting with more money than you had! (F’n Redskins)
Well that’s my sad tale of devotion

    Great piece WY

I was surprised to hear you were born a poor black child…lol

  3. olddolphan says:

WYOMING; Really nice effort on your part. The San Diego-Miami playoff game (the FIRST ONE) still hurts too much to talk about it. The following year, Miami clobbered the Chargers in a “Dream Rematch” that turned out to be a mismatch. But it really didn’t make up for the pain of losing the prior year.

BACK from business/pleasure trip to the Palm Beach/Broward area. Got to see Florida Atlantic beat Ohio State 7-0 in the 2nd game of a 3-game weekend series of Division One baseball at FAU Stadium. Owls won 2 of the 3 games and are now 6-1 with a Wednesday Night game VS the Florida Gators next on the schedule. A win over Florida will put FAU in the Top 25 ranked teams in the national polls.

  8. The Flying Pig says:

I was watching the video the other day

every time the camera shot fans I felt like I was watching Caddyshack

It was really loud int he Orange Bowl. Somewhere in that video it talks about how hard it was to beat the Dolphins under Shula at the Orange Bowl

Can you imagine that being said about our team now?

  9. olddolphan says:

IT’S A FACT that after the “hook and lateral” play ending the first half, the players could NOT HEAR SHULA in the Dolphins’ halftime locker due to the unbelievable crowd frenzy which carried on through halftime! –SHULA had to put all his messages on a blackboard!!!!!

I’m with Herd – I love the Fan Origins!

Thanks Wyo! Appreciate you sharing that with us. Great stuff to read.

  11. The Flying Pig says:

Today is DB day att he Combine

A lot of people think the Dolphins will take a Cb inthe 1st round
Maybe a DB will really set himself apart today

    • Mike E. says:

I’d be shocked if we take a CB 1st RD. It’s a pretty deep draft with the CB’s, and I’m not sure that one stands head and shoulders over any of the others. We can wait until 2nd or even 3rd RD.

      • The Flying Pig says:

I think there will be good CBs available later in the draft

but we can get the top propsect if we want him
I don’t really think one stands out above the rest either
but I don’t know how FO feels

      • jetsssuck says:

i think they take a OL or DE/OLB in first. A OL will give a boost to the WR’s longer timing routes instead of 3 yard passes.

  12. The Flying Pig says:

so far the top 40 time is 4.37
2 guys got that time: Ronald Darby and Justin Cox

  13. The Flying Pig says:

Chris Hackett just ran a 4.83
    yuk

  14. son of a son of a shula says:

Darby hits like a truck too and showed great speed. He’s a corner I like opposite Grimes.

Clayton Geathers from UCF making a great showing for himself. Big Safety with good speed and was third in the bench press among DB’s with 22.

  15. Mike E. says:

Chris Hackett ran a 4.83. Not going to help him any. I know 40 times aren’t the end-all, but that’s not good.

  16. Mike E. says:

I didn’t see Holliman run, I wonder if he’s medically unable to.

  17. The Flying Pig says:

    Probably Mike E
    (Piggy Shrugs)

  18. Mike E. says:

That sucks – I wanted to see Holliman, and Ekpre-Olomu run

  19. convict says:

Love the fan origins. Really interesting to see how people who didn’t grow up in South Florida have a connection to the team.

  20. son of a son of a shula says:

Jacoby Glenn ran slower than I would have expected. He was 4.5 something and I anticipated a 4.4 something for him. Still he’s young and raw with great “hawk” abilities.

  21. Mike E. says:

I like Jalen Collins, and I’m looking forward to seeing Kevin Johnson and Kevin White run.

  22. Mike E. says:

Senquez Golson is the guy they say compares to Brent Grimes. Could we have Brent Grimes squared?

  23. dbolt48 says:

I see Adrian Amos is going to jump up draft boards at the FS spot. He’s going to be a good pro

  24. D says:

Senquez Golson, outside Jalen Collins, is my favorite CB in this draft. The value for where he is projected and what we are getting with that pick matches up beautifully. Im not concerned with CB height, as long as they can technique wise compensate. Lots of CB i this league show you height isnt as important as skill and Golson has that. Revis is like 5’10-5’11, so he isnt a big dude. Grimes, Haden, etc. Tehre are lots of smalled CB’s. Safety i think is where ya need dudes with some size, both for tackling purposes and for covering TE i deeper zones. As long as we have a pair of sizable safeties, im good.

  25. dbolt48 says:

@AbramsonPBP: TE Charles Clay expected to re-sign with #Dolphins, despite #Bills interest (and an update on Jared Odrick) http://t.co/U88UIgp8z1

  26. D says:

Vernon Davis selling his house?– Espn
    ————————-
I was mentoning a little while back that SF is likely to purge some contracts, and i think Vernon is one of the more likely to either be asked to renegotiate or be cut. Id be watching this one pretty close because if he hits the market id be ok if we got him as an incase we cant re-sign Clay. Hearing reports that Bills may throw some big dollars Clay’s way, so we might not also lose him, he may wind up on a rival team 😦

  27. dbolt48 says:

@nfldraftscout: 12’3″ broad jump for @MoveTheSticks guy Byron Jones. That may be a record.

  28. son of a son of a shula says:

    Stay Clay

  29. D says:

White is going to be gone by time we pick not, with almost 100% certainty. Parker i think still has a good chance to be there, especially if the interviews go well with DGB. DGB may be the second guy off the board. Almost 6’6 and running a 4.4…. thats going to have people saying Randy Moss in the war rooms. Parker is still feel is best fit for us, and i still think he is superior talent to Strong. It is good to know though, those matched up pretty closely in the skills tests making Strong a potential fallback if somehow White, Cooper, DGB, and Parker are all gone. I have a feeling if they are though we probably look at McKinney for the spot.

Really disappointed in Funchess’ performance, but still think he is the better hybrid TE/WR in the class. That 40 time doesn’t reflect his perceived speed on the field and i dont know if he makes up for it with good separation skills or if that was just a bad day for him running the 40. Maybe its like we were saying a couple days ago, when the pads are on, what would your 40 time be then. A lot of these other guys would lose a little on their 40’s,maybe he doesn’t. I dont know but even though im disappointed in that, i would take him still, just a good bit deeper in the draft. Waller as pointed out by others may be a better value towards the bottom half of the draft and provide same TE/WR capabilities.

    • dbolt48 says:

I find Strong and Cooper on even footing. Both need to be coached up on their routes. I like Zsteongs physical attributes a little better, but I wouldn’t complain about either player.

  30. The Flying Pig says:

The record for the broad jump was 11’7″

I guess that is a record

    ——————————————–
Beasley will be better off and a more natural fit for a team, as a 3-4 OLB. He doesnt have the size really for 4-3 DE. If you wanted a guy who could play 4-3 DE, and shift to OLB more fluidly, you should look at Fowler Jr. He wont be there when we pick but if your looking for a stud DE thats te guy id go with.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Oh yeah Fowler has been my favorite player in the draft it sucks that we won’t have a shot at him. Beasley although lacking some size seems to have made up for it in sheer power. He might be fine in either scheme especially in a lot of hybrid D formations.

      • D says:

Yeah but he will get wore down and manhandled a bit at the NFL level without putting on some weight. He adds another 15lbs of muscle to go with his power and he wins most leverage games.

  36. Silly Tim says:

Wyo, good stuff. It’s interesting to read how those of us not from Florida became fans. I was even interested in my own story. LOL

  37. D says:

From looks of their interview patters, i think their primary focus for 1st pick is going to be WR, fallback is ILB, third fallback, DT. At least at this point, before FA they seem to be gearing up this way. Im sure if some other prospect that just stands out to them flops in their lap, they take it regardless of position, but i thin they are at least looking this direction from interviews they have been doing both EW, SB, and Combine. I think thats a pretty decent strategy too, as long as they take care of OL via FA.

  38. D says:

Lol, damn, Charlie at Walterfootball has us taking a CB in 1st and second round lol. Really!? Then a WR and its Montgomery, who has been getting slammed by scouts for inconstant play and performances at combine.

I wonder if I could do that with 2 jumps, lol

    lol @ son

it would take me 1 jump. 1 jump and my back gives out my knees collapse i will fall on my ass then roll around in pain and 12′ later i will be there. but it is just one jump

  40. The Flying Pig says:

    Trae Waynes just posted a 4.35 40

  41. The Flying Pig says:

  50. Mike E. says:

I still can’t get over Byron Jones. It looked like he wasn’t even trying. Kid has serious hops, with a 44.5″ vertical, besides his amazing broad jump.

  51. The Flying Pig says:

Lot of contact by a Peters on that play

  63. D says:

Have been looking over several team blogs and rumor sites and if any of these have a bead on their team in the least we could see as many as 4 teams interested in WR drafting before us. Almost all of them have Strong ranked 5th of the top 5. Parker, a lot of mocksters, and team fanboys think goes to Vikings, citing they are realy to move on past Cordarrell and Parker is familiar to Bridgewater, who apparently the Vikings are in love with. I really hope they are wrong, but ill have to admit it does make a lot of sense. Ill make sure i have a hankie near by to mop up the “we didnt get Devante tears”

Chris Conley UGA had a pretty nice showing at combine and might be a decent later round WR prospect. 6’3 213, 4.41 40….pretty nice numbers there. He would be a project guy but probably same vein as guy like Waller and Cam Worthy, both of whom im liking for later rounds as well.

  70. Mike E. says:

    Wyo

I totally got the reference, I think the Jerk is a great movie, I just didn’t mention it. The first time I saw the movie, I laughed a lot, but I definitely laughed the hardest at the bath scene when he’s trying to read the note. That just killed me.

  71. Mike E. says:

Rock – Even if he won’t post here, I’m sure he’s ready and willing to trade our 2nd our 3rd RD picks to the Vikes to get CP. lol

  72. D says:

When can teams start bringing invites in? Starts right after combine ends doesn’t it?

  73. finfanrob says:

why am i not surprised the Hand likes the Jerk

  74. D says:

To be honest, id probably take CP in trade for maybe a 5-6th round pick, but no way im giving up much more. Too risky especially given the depth of talent at WR this year.

    • Brian in NY says:

I believe that he has the potential to earn that type of salary, but IMO he has not earned that yet. He has had one good season; $6 million per is too much for that.

      • D says:

Market is what it is, i can promise you he will make that someplace, maybe not with us, i dunno but if we want to keep him thats what we are looking at cost wise.

Lol man fans cant let go…. There were polls for walk, franchise, extend on our different FA’s and in 90% of them people had voted to extend those players. I know you cant replace your whole team, and i think some of them are open for discussion on extending them for sure, but how do you expect to get better as a team extending everyone, including those that will cost a pretty penny to bring mediocrity to the positions. There was only one FA they didnt want to extend and that was TJ Heath lol, and thats probably because they are like, who the hell is TJ Heath.

Do you have a penis brace?” this shit went on for about 15-20 minutes. Later that day the fuckers called back and here we go again. LOL. I usually keep asking questions until i talk them in circles or get them frustrated because they are so off their script they cant answer the questions anymore.

  100. D says:

Think about this in terms of Clay….. really bad TE class, limited TE’s available in FA, especially ones that fit the mold Clay does. I think easily Clay is going to get 6mil. I might agree with ya Brian that he might not deserve 6mil for basically one really good year, but its not what his is worth, but what someone is willing to pay him. Bills have tons of cap space and would easily drop 6mil on him. If we dont pay him somewhere near 6mil per, we will likely lose him, and replacing him with whats out there right now is going to be a really hard thing to do.
