Cornering the Market

So far, on the defensive side of the ball, I’ve looked at the safety prospects and linebacker prospects. Now, it’s time to take a look at the cornerbacks. Brent Grimes, as far as I’m concerned, is the the only Miami Dolphins CB you can pencil in as a starter. Everyone else, and I do mean E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E, is a question mark.

This draft seems to be deep at CB, but not top heavy. There are a couple of guys that are potential 1st RD picks, but none that are can’t miss talents.

Let’s take a look at this years CB prospects!

Trae Waynes

Trae Waynes CB – Michigan St. 6’0” 186

Before the combine, Waynes was considered as possibly the first CB to come off the board. After the combine, he solidified his status. Waynes ran a blistering 4.31 in the 40, and put up an impressive 19 reps on the bench.

His last season at Michigan St., Waynes had 3 INT’s along with 8 passes defensed, 1 sack, and 46 tackles, 34 solo.

Waynes can play in any scheme, but he would likely excel in a press scheme, where his size and strength would allow him to bump the receiver off his route. He is a very good cover corner who can stay with any receiver. One thing at the combine that concerns me was his poor cone and 20 YD shuttle scores, 7.06 in the cones, and 4.39 in the shuttle shows poor agility and body control.

NFL.com has Waynes as the #1 CB and rated at 6.27

NFL Comparison – Antonio Cromartie (Waynes, at the moment, has no kids)

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jalen Collins

Jalen Collins CB – LSU 6’1” 203

While Collins doesn’t have the speed of Waynes, he’s a very good CB in his own right. Collins didn’t fly at the combine, he ran a 4.48, which is fine for an NFL CB. Just to go back to the shuttle, Collins did the shuttle in 6.77, and was the top performer. He was a little better than Waynes in 20 YD shuttle at 4.27, which shows the ability to change directions quickly.

Collins is also leaving as a Junior, and finished his last season with 1 INT, 9 passes defensed, 38 tackles, 28 solo.

Collins only has 10 career starts, so that leaves him without a real body of work to look at. Teams are going to have to project his value. He has the size most teams are looking for. NFL.com has Collins as #2 for CB’s, and has him rated at 6.18.

NFL comparison – Terence Newman

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ronald Darby

Ronald Darby CB – Florida St. 5’11” 193

Darby performed well at the combine, running a sub 4.4 40 (4.38), and also showed off his hops with a 41.5” vertical.

Darby also left college as a Junior. His last season at Florida St., Darby had no INT’s, 4 passes defensed, 1 FF, and 43 tackles, 28 solo.

Darby is a former HS track star. He has very good body control. Darby has 2 years of experience playing CB, but only 2 INT’s in that time. Also a good cover corner, but hasn’t shown that he’s a playmaker or ballhawk.

NFL.com has Darby rated #3 with a 5.87 rating.

NFL comparison – Johnathan Joseph

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Kevin Johnson

Kevin Johnson CB – Wake Forest 6’0” 188

Johnson is rated as #4 by NFL.com. Johnson is the first CB that we’re looking at that has played  all 4 seasons in college. As a Senior, Johnson had 1 INT, 6 passes defensed, 44 tackles, 32 solo. In 4 years, Johnson had 7 total INT’s, with 3 both as a Sophomore and Junior.

Johnson didn’t impress at the combine with his 40 time, just a decent 4.52, but he showed his athletic ability with a 130” broad jump, a 41.5” vertical, an impressive 6.79 cone, and a blazing fast 3.89 20 YD shuttle. While not top end speed fast, he plays fast, and has great agility, acceleration and recovery speed.

Very good cover man, excellent balance, and a good tackler who is willing to support the run. Can play in a press or zone scheme. Plays stronger than he looks.

NFL.com has Johnson rated #4 at 5.86.

NFL comparison – Sam Shields

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Marcus Peters

Marcus Peters CB – Washington 6’0” 197

Marcus Peters is another Junior leaving college for the NFL. In his last season at Washington, Peters played in 9 games last season, but he was suspended for 1 game after throwing a sideline tantrum, and then later dismissed for run ins with the coaches. Sounds like a perfect fit with ol’ Joe, eh? In his 9 games, Peters came down with 3 INT’s, 7 passed defensed, 1 INT for a TD, and 1 FF. In his 3 year career, minus a few games his last season, Peters had a total of 11 INT’s, pretty impressive.

The combine didn’t do Peters any favors except for his 17 reps on the bench. He ran a 4.53, which is borderline acceptable for a CB. He’s a player though, and has good production. Physical player who likes to intimidate (even his coaches!)

NFL.com has Peters ranked #5 with a 5.82 rating

NFL comparison – Aqib Talib

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

PJ Williams

PJ Williams CB – Florida St. 6’0” 194

Williams is the CB on the other side of the field with Ronald Darby at Florida St. That’s a talented secondary right there. Unlike Darby though, PJ Williams didn’t have a great combine. He ran a 4.57, which may hurt his chances as a starting CB. He did show athleticism with a 132” broad jump, and a 40” vertical.

Williams is also leaving FLA St. as a Junior. In his last season, Williams had 1 INT, 10 passes defensed, 1 FF, 1 sack, and 74 tackles, 52 solo.

Williams is ranked #6 on NFL.com with a 5.8 rating

Physical and competitive player who likes to press. Stays physical down the field, which could be a problem in the NFL, where hands-on is frowned upon. Despite his lack of top end speed, Williams is a very good cover corner.

NFL comparison – Stephon Gilmore

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Senquez Golson

Senquez Golson CB – Ole Miss 5’9” 176

This “mighty-mite” is one of my favorites, probably because he’s often compared to our own Brent Grimes. Ultra-competitive player, who is also a very productive player. A 4year starter at Mississippi, Golson in his Senior year snared 10 INT’s, 1 returned for a TD, had 8 passes defensed, 0.5 sacks, and 43 tackles, 33 solo.

CB with excellent ball skills (just like Grimes). Golson performed well at the combine, just didn’t stand out in any category, but well in all of them. He ran s 4.46, put up 15 reps, and a good 6.81 cone drill. He;’s a very good athlete, with a non-stop motor. He played mostly zone coverage, so he may need to prove he can play press as well, although not here in MIA.

Golson was rated #7 by NFL.com with a 5.73

NFL comparison – I TOLD YA, Brent Grimes!

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

D'Joun Smith

D’Joun Smith CB – FAU 5’10” 187

I’m skipping around now (Well, not skipping around the house, just going out of order as far as rankings are concerned)

Smith is a very good athlete, and showed well at the combine. He didn’t kill any one category, but he did well across the board. He ran a 4.45, 18 reps on the bench, and a 6.96 cone drill.

Smith leaves FAU as a Senior. In his last season at FAU, Smith had 1 INT, (returned for a TD) 8 passes defensed, 1 FF, and 53 tackles, 32 solo. He had a great Junior season, with 7 INT’s, 13 passes defensed, 2 FF’s and a TD. The kid is a very competitive player, very spunky. Thing is, he didn’t face a high level of competition at FAU.

NFL.com has Smith rated at 5.61

NFL comparison – Ross Cockrell

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu CB – Oregon 5’9” 192

Ekpre-Olomu was unable to perform at the combine, he is coming off a knee injury he sustained in preparation for the the playoff game against Florida St.

Ekpre-Olomu was a 4 YR starter at Oregon. He finished his Senior year with 2 INT’s, 9 passes defensed, 1 FF and 63 tackles, 43 solo.

Very fluid athlete with loose hips that can change direction well. Plays tough, and has good ball skills. The knee injury is a concern, so that alone will drop him some in the draft. Still, he has potential to be a great CB.

NFL.com has Ekpre-Olomu rated at 5.57

NFL comparison – Alterraun Verner

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Charles Gaines

Charles Gaines CB – Louisville 5’10” 180

Gaines left Louisville as a Junior. In his last season, he had 2 INT’s, 10 passes defensed, 1 FF, 1 sack, and 36 tackles, 31 solo. In his Sophomore year, Gaines had 5 INT’s (1 returned for a TD). He was a WR when he came to Louisville, and was converted to a CB. This gives him somewhat of an advantage in coverage. Mirrors very well.

Gaines ran a 4.45 at the combine, which is pretty good. He didn’t show particularly well in any other category at the combine.

NFL.com has Gaines rated at 5.56

NFL comparison – Patrick Robinson

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Quinten Rollins

Quinten Rollins CB – Miami (Ohio) 5’11” 195

Interesting prospect who played basketball for 3 years, and then played football as a Senior at Miami of Ohio. He made an easy transition to football, and his basketball skills served him well as a CB. In his one and only season, Rollins had 7 INT’s (1 returned for a TD), 9 passes defensed, 1 FF, and 72 tackles, 53 solo.

Rollins, despite his excellent season will be an NFL project, and likely won’t be a starter right away. He also ran a 4.57 at the combine, which says he likely won’t be on the outside, but could possibly be a fit in the slot.

NFL.com has Rollins rated at a 5.71 (Most likely on potential)

NFL comparison – Perrish Cox

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Lorenzo Doss

Lorenzo Doss CB – Tulane 5’10” 182

3 year starter at Tulane. Left Tulane as a Junior. In his last season, Doss had 3 INT’s, 9 passes defensed, 1 sack, and 48 tackles, 36 solo. In Doss’s Sophomore season, he had 7 INT’s, and 4 in his Freshman year.

Doss wasn’t impressive at the combine, running a decent 4.5 40, only putting up 9 reps at the bench, and a below average 33.5” vertical, and also did poorly in the cone drills at 7.20. Still, Doss is a player with good ball skills, and that will get him drafted.

NFL.com has Doss rated at 5.65

NFL comparison – Buster Skrine

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There are other CB’s who may be in the picture, but there are only so many hours in the day. I think we’ll likely see one of the guys above, or maybe 2 on our team. We need CB’s, one because I’m not sure either Jamar Taylor or Will Davis can stay healthy enough to actually play an entire season, and Brent Grimes is going to be 32 by the time the season starts.

If there are any guys you feel should have been here, bring them up on the blog, and give us some info!

Enjoy!

OMG, what a stupid ghetto ho. Why would she have a cake made like that and then post it for the world to see what a low class broad she is. I feel sorry for her. She is highly immature or got serious mental flaws.
Brent, hire a therapist, you can afford it….SMH

  1. Al in MIA says:

    Piggy,
The Steelers are prime examples of this but you need good scouts and GM to do their job as well heh.
The Steelers opted to let these guys leave -> Burress, Holmes, Wallace, Sanders, etc. They just keep reloading in the draft.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Every year they draft well
Last 2 years look at their drafts

we will be talking about those players in a few years

Hopefully Hickey can get is there

    • getterdone says:

Guess you can say hated NE has done the same. But finding a franchise QB is the cog that makes all that work from there out.

      • getterdone says:

Finally we have the early stages of a franchise QB, so we should now see good results from the team around that barring horrible drafts. Last year’s was good and helped. We were doing well until the rash of injuries last 6 games.

      • Al in MIA says:

Pretty much…oh and that bit about blockers to give the QB a comfortable pocket with big passing lanes 😛

    • getterdone says:

Al, correct, but our blockers had a LT go to IR, then a mish mash of G’s.

  2. getterdone says:

The Miami Herald reports the Patriots have “shown interest” in free agent Brian Hartline.
Hartline is not an exciting name, but is a competent target on the outside. That’s something the Patriots have made a habit of lacking. Hartline is visiting the Texans on Thursday, and has also drawn interest from the Bears and Browns.

  3. Al in MIA says:

    Mike E,
I just read the tweets, what’s the big deal? 100% facts.
It’s all business and players go where they get paid (it’s a job not a popularity contest).

But that cake is so F’d up on many levels…LOL
Miko: Look at me, I’m a chicken head. 😯

    • Mike E. says:

No big deal. I want to see what happens when Grimes is a cap casualty, how she’ll be ripping the Dolphins a new a-hole. Tell me you don’t think that’s gonna happen . . .

      • dbolt48 says:

She’s already griping about Suh & if we sign another CB at a higher salary than her man.

YOUNG STANGER: Better tickets on the North (visitor’s) side were NOT available at any price!!–IF I wanted season’d tix between the 30’s I had to pony up $1000 per ticket per game, or more.
Better yardline tix were offered to me ONLY in the UPPER DECK!!

    • getterdone says:

40 rows up in the lower section shouldn’t be too bad. You’ll see a wider range of the field from there. Especially if you’re now gonna be outside of the 30.

    • olddolphan says:

TO REPEAT; I do NOT believe the ticket office was honest with me or Jim. –I believe Ross is holding back on tix between the 30’s ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STADIUM as rewards to those who buy the super expensive tix—a concept Joe Robbie created when the team moved to this stadium in 1987. Buying tix in the exclusive zone gets you an opportunity to buy tix between the 30’s, that’s how I see it.

      • getterdone says:

I’m sure that’s how it goes. The average working stiff fan is mostly forced to follow his team by watching on TV.

  6. getterdone says:

Guess Revis Island will still be in the AFC East one way or the other. I hope the bidding war gets very very high. Spend that money guys….lol

ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes the Jets will attempt to pay Darrelle Revis “anything he wants” if/when he becomes a free agent.
Schefter believes the Revis sweepstakes will come down to the Jets and Patriots. The Jets made the difficult, but likely correct, decision to trade Revis two years ago, but meddlesome owner Woody Johnson has apparently felt regret. The New York media has spent the better part of two years beating the drum for Revis’ return. Johnson seems to feel the pressure. Whatever the motivations, Revis would fill a huge need for Gang Green, and be playing for a coach in Todd Bowles who maximizes talent and scheme much the same way Rex Ryan does.

  7. stangerx says:

Houston Texans safety D.J. Swearinger is under investigation in Texas … after the 23-year-old allegedly stole his own truck from a customizer without paying for $20k in upgrades … TMZ Sports has learned.

It’s a bizarre story, but here’s how it breaks down:

According to a police report filed in Houston, Swearinger took his 2013 F250 truck to Espi Motors to get his ride pimped out like a boss — matte black paint with a Batman logo, speakers, new wheels, custom grill, train horn, etc.

But according to Espi, when he came to pick up the whip, he got sticker shock … and drove it off the lot WITHOUT paying for the work.

Espi tried to track down Swearinger to get the cash, but D.J. went M.I.A. so Espi filed a police report.

    • getterdone says:

That is really dumb of a guy that makes the money he makes. Besides, didn’t the asswipe get an estimate first….SMH

  8. olddolphan says:

  9. son of a son of a shula says:

All of a sudden its “Todd Bowles who maximizes talent and scheme” and isn’t just another coordinator looking for an opportunity and finally got one. Funny how that works.

    • getterdone says:

LOL, yeah…he’s done well in a talent loaded defense in Arizona, now we’ll see how that translates to being HC of the Gag Green.

  10. getterdone says:

BTW, Vince Wilfork getting set free by the Pats kinda changes the whole dynamics of pursuing Suh now I’d think if I was Hickey.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

      How?
Wilfork is a temporary solution, while Suh is entering his prime and would be here for a long period.
I wouldn’t trust Wilfork here, he’d come here for a check and to get fatter, he hates the Fins. I don’t want him.

  11. son of a son of a shula says:

Swearinger is a scum bag. Poser phuck face.

    • stangerx says:

This to GD as well — thing is it will go away real quick once his people read the story. They’ll just pay. But when Swearinger hits FA I’ll remember. And even if the coaches and GMs don’t, it’ll be in the report on him. Dude probably just cost himself a million or more bucks.

  12. Silly Tim says:

So I see we re-signed Fox for depth. Not surprising.

  13. The Flying Pig says:

@AdamSchefter: Former Dolphins WR Brian Hartline is visiting the Texans today.

  14. getterdone says:

    Andrew Abramson ✔ @AbramsonPBP
#Dolphins re-sign safety Jordan Kovacs, per his agent @davidcanter

Well, that’s a good sign that they think he’s developing.

  15. BoulderPhinfan says:

I guess the raiders are int he suh derby also. He might be a good fit over there.

  16. getterdone says:

Son, I’m not sure Wilfork really hates the Phins, he said those things as a Patriot, but he’s from the Cane’s.
….and it does change things to me because if we lose on Suh, or don’t want to pat that amount, then we can get Wilfork cheaper due to age and use him as a stop gap run stuffer while we keep developing the young DT’s we have or will draft.

  18. getterdone says:

LMAO, Mike…that sight is so inaccurate.

  19. getterdone says:

I see the converted QB to TE Blake Bell there. He’s really grown on me. He’s raw for now, but I think he’ll turn out to be a real steal from the 5th round on!!!

    • dbolt48 says:

Raw rout runner still a little inconsistent catching. On the other hand, he’s athletic for his size, tough, and is able to find soft spots in coverage and sit in them.

      • getterdone says:

Yes, he is very athletic. Put up real nice numbers at combine. Quickly improved his blocking and receiving skills as the few games as a TE went along last season.
As a former QB, he knows where the soft spots are by reading the coverages.
        I think he’ll be a steal, he’s 6’6 260.

      • dbolt48 says:

Lots to work with him. Patience could equal a huge payoff!

  27. CavalierKong says:

I would take Watt all day long over Suh, mostly because of Suh’s propensity for going over the line, they are both special talents and game changers from their respective positions. If we do sign Suh I’ll be excited to see how he changes the intensity of the defense as a whole.

  30. getterdone says:

D, I’m not big on Rey Maualuga, he’s good playing the run, but a liability in coverage. More a 2 down guy. Glad we didn’t give him big money.

    • D says:

Same as Spikes. People scoff at idea of Spikes, but him on running downs would really solidify the LB position, bring in Misi for coverage downs. Spikes wouldnt cost much either.

  31. Mike E. says:

it’s kind of funny all the pictures of Odrick on twitter. Don’t they all know we’re getting Suh? If we do, there’s no way in hell we pay Odrick too.

  32. Mike E. says:

    D-Bolt

I think I got the C grade on Anthony because I took McKinney as an ILB. I meant to take him as an OLB. They probably looked at it as doubling up on the same position.

It would be kind of like saying we shouldnt even have taken a shot at Manning. No we didn’t land him and no it probably wouldn’t have been the one thing we needed to get us over the hump, but do you just fucking pass on it? No way man, i mean you guys tell me i dont have passion for our team all the time because i refuse to fire everyone every year we dont make the playoffs, but now its, oh we need a more conservative approach lol….really?

    • olddolphan says:

NOT ONE SIngle person on this site has advocated “fire everyone every year.” What has been said is that, after several years of failure (Sparano, Ireland, Henne, etc.) people need to be replaced as opposed to given a 4th or 5th year to prove they are failures. I DO QUESTION the passion of those wanting to bring back Ireland for yet another year of failure. I DO QUESTION the passion of those who, like Steve Ross, thought Sparano “was the right guy to lead the Dolphins into the future after yet another year of failure started with an 0-7 start. And I DO QUESTION the wisdom of bringing back Philbin for yet ANOTHER YEAR WITHOUT PLAYOFFS after proving over the last several years he’s simply NOT the man for the job. NOTICE NONE of these guys were fired after one or two years. THAT status is reserved for Cam Cameron, who, history has proved, was rightly fired after just ONE YEAR.

Okay, just finished shoveling I guess 5-6″ of snow, not as bad as Mike E and it has stopped, but we had some serious drifts on our deck and we had to get some of that off too in case it was too heavy.

Seriously, if it snows again I’m warning everyone, I’m going to kill winter. LOL

GD, Wilfork grew up a Bills fan and always hated the Dolphins because his whole family were Dolphin fans and he wanted to be different.

Clay should come in a lil less than this…and should be signed for 4-5yrs since he’s younger.

Panthers signed TE Greg Olsen to a three-year, $22.5 million extension through 2018.
The deal includes a whopping $12 million signing bonus. Headed into the final year of his contract, Olsen had been set to make $5.25 million. The new deal is well deserved for one of the league’s most consistent players. Olsen has caught at least 69 passes each of the past three seasons, and posted new career highs in receptions (84) and yards (1,008) last season. He turns 30 next week.

I like the snow because it can give me a snow day. That doesn’t happen in the spring.

    • Silly Tim says:

LOL, I hear ya but fuck that.

Actually I don’t think we got 5-6″ now that I think about it. Probably more like 4″ but with clearing off all the cars and some of the drifts it seemed like more. It’s also still snowing very lightly but you can only see it in the street lights.

It’s going to be sunny tomorrow but only 25-30 so we’ll have to wait until the weekend for the 40s and then next week 40s and 50s. That can’t come quick enough.

It’s not that I don’t want Suh here, I think it would be great.

i admit i dont. other then manning the history of high priced FA is just failure. not sure why it is so hard to get but this is a team sport. spending 1/5th your cap on one player just means you have one high priced player and a bunch of nobody’s . and i dont say this joking, i do believe roger will suspend him for the year the first time he doesnt blow his nose right.

  68. finfanrob says:

    This happened in Tampa^

    try

wasnt me. now if it were a cat……awwwww who knows.

  69. Silly Tim says:

FFR, we can clear more cap this year and next year as we move along with Suh. The key is young players on low end contracts stepping up, and drafting well.

We’re an 8-8 team and I think the org thinks we can take the next step by adding an elite DT. I for one did not think we were in the running at all for Suh but all this buzz is not just BS. The team will try to do anything they can to make the playoffs in 2015 and go from there.

  70. Mike E. says:

Hey Rhino! Sorry I missed ya there, I was feeding my face. lol

  71. finfanrob says:

    tim

huh???? i didnt say anything about the cap. all i said is suh will just be a bust. he will just be another high priced FA that doesnt work out. not like there isnt a track record on how high priced FA’s work out. but hell sign him, should only take one game before roger suspended him for the year

    • Silly Tim says:

Reggie White wasn’t a bust for the Packers. Suh is a dominant force, he will not be a bust unless he suffers a horrible injury.

  72. finfanrob says:

lol you manly men talking about how many inches you have yet complain what i wear to work.

  73. finfanrob says:

Reggie White wasn’t a bust for the Packers.

lol oh wow, well you got me there. what the hell am i thinking. i mean one high priced FA in the 1700’s that worked out. what the fuck was i thinking.

    • Silly Tim says:

      Calm down! LOL

It was one example, I can go on if you’d like but what’s the point? Suh is a great player entering his 6th season. It’s not like we’re signing Steve Emtman off a bad knee injury in 1995.

  74. Mike E. says:

    Jason Fox endorses Suh.

    Fox gave a favorable review.

“He’s obviously a dominant player,” Fox said. “He’s one of the best defensive tackles, if not the best defensive tackle, in the whole NFL. He’s a game-changing type of player.

“In the locker room he’s not the rah-rah guy. He speaks up when he feels like it’s necessary, but he’s a guy that leads by example.”

  75. finfanrob says:

    tim

for every high priced FA that worked out i willing to bet 10 times have failed. but hell what do i know. lets go ahead and sign him. they can only get 8 games worse

    • Silly Tim says:

The idea is to add talent and that’s why multiple teams are interested in Suh. If we don’t get him someone else will. I’m not a fan of what a lot of guys get paid, I think it’s over the top but it doesn’t change the fact that a guy is talented.

  76. Silly Tim says:

It was so much easier and more fun back in the day when we didn’t know cap stuff and we just added players and prospects and rooted it on. Now we all have questions about any move we make.

  77. finfanrob says:

    tim

yeah add talent thru the draft. once again show me that list of over the top high priced FA’s that made a team a winner.

  78. The Flying Pig says:

A guys pricetage does not make him successful

I think you sign a free agent expecting them to be exactly what they have always been

If Suh is the same player for his next team as he way for Detroit, well his not team really did well for themselves

  79. The Flying Pig says:

    Tim

Does free agency begin Saturday or Tuesday?

    I thought it was Tuesday

  80. The Flying Pig says:

There are plenty of teams that have found success after signing a big $ free agent
    Denver – Manning
    Saints – Brees
    Seattle – Flynn

Yes I said Seatle and Flynn
Not bc Flynn was a success
But bc Spending in Flynn did not hurt their success

The reality is most of your team is going to be made of draftees from the last 3-4 years and low priced vets
And you have to draft well
But signing a big $ free agent does not hurt that ability
It also doesn’t help it of you aren’t doing it well

  81. finfanrob says:

    wyoming85 says:

    Manning

wow. boy am i ever being put in my place tonight. i mean two FA that have worked over the last 20 centuries. oh well goes to show what i know. you all win. lets give someone enough money to make him never to have to work again in his life. that sooooo works out all the time as just proven to me.

  82. The Flying Pig says:

I didn’t check when this was updated
    But check it out

    http://nfltraderumors.co/nfl-cap-space-1/

    Not spending doesn’t create success
    Spending more doesn’t create success
But not spending defiantly leads to less talent

To me the key with Suh or any other free agent is whether it will hurt us I. Resigning Tanny
Bc I do to want to have to hunt for a new qb

And it appears that the answer to that is no

  83. finfanrob says:

    piggy

sorry pigude but your list has one high price FA. the other two didnt break the bank. and if i am not mistake didnt that one high price FA on your list take a big ass pay cut this year?

  84. The Flying Pig says:

    FFROb

    The fact is
Most of the time, the best players in the NFL don’t get away from their respective teams

The fact that Suh is in the market is a result of a lot of other factors other than the quality of the player

It’s amazing that he is out there: just like it was amazingmg the Manning was a free agent

And when Manning was a free agent, a lot of people criticized signing him as well for various reasons
But look at the success he brought Denver

  85. finfanrob says:

    piggy

well hopefully suh can break mannings single season td record. according to randy out qb sucks so who knows.

and again, you point out one instance. how did wallace work out or ellerbe. and that is just two on the fins. i get it. everyone gets in a tissy over a big name. but you know you only pointed out two players when there are 20 times as many big time FA bust

    • The Flying Pig says:

      Wallace
Ellerbee and wheeler and those guys all weren’t very good when we signed him

It’s foolish to overpay average players

It’s not foolish to overpay elite players

That not an argument against not signing Suh
That an argument against not signing Cobb or some of the other average players at there that you have to overpay for

I keep seeing tweets and posts from people who don’t want to say Suh and instead want to sign a bunch of less expensive guys who will still be overplayed and cut within 3 years

      That a route to 8-8
If you sign the right player, they are difference makers
And I beleive Suh is the right player

I guess we can sign Odrick, Cobb and Dan Williams instead
I don’t want to do that
There are elite players and there are other guys

  86. Rockphin says:

    http://www.thephinsider.com/2015/3/5/8153669/dolphins-salary-cap-2015-update-3-5-15

good article on how much the Dolphins have committed, how much room we have, and how much more room we can acquire by cutting a guy spelled out player by player with post June 1 designations shown. Ellerby is gone after June 1. Perhaps Starks too.

I saw Heartline is “getting interest” from the Pats……That is going to suck. Of course they have to pay Gronk 15M this year.

  87. finfanrob says:

    That a route to 8-8
If you sign the right player, they are difference makers
And I beleive Suh is the right player

yep, everyone knows the key from 8-8 to 14-2 and a SB is a interior d linemen. hell, why the colts will never make it or drafting luck. should of used that pick on an interior linemen.

listen, not saying suh isnt a great player, but the fins are way way way more then one great player away. great sign suh and waste your cap on him. cause the lb and safetys are out of this world in the fins. i would agree piggy if the only team hurting this team was an interior linemen. but they cant even put on a pass rush or get a simple first down to milk away a game.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      FFRob

One great player can make he other players better

Having a player you can build around is a path to success

      • Try Pod says:

Herein lies the rub (to me): I don’t think we are one player away from being afc championship competitive, particularly a player on the defensive side of the ball, but I accept the coaches may feel different, and if you’re Philbin and your feeling a little heat, perhaps you think Suh is the best opportunity to getting that heat off of your ass, so you go all in and let the chips fall where they may.
