Ndamukong Suh has signed his 6 year – 100 million dollar contract with the Miami Dolphins. Now what?
Now it’s time to go to work. Time for him to get acclimated with his new surroundings, his new coaches, his new teammates, and his new fan base. This is a man who is driven to be great, while he did sign the largest contract ever for a defensive player in the NFL he won’t settle and collect his fat checks. Suh wants to be great, he puts the time in preparing himself, studying, honing, and working out doing everything you would expect from a true professional playing in the National Football League.
Now it’s time to go to work on changing the Dolphins fortunes on the field. End the late season collapse. End years of mediocrity. End years of frustration. Restore vigor and hope once again into a proud franchise. Can Suh do that? He can’t do it alone but in his presence everyone can get better, everyone can strive for more, everyone must do more. Suh is a huge cornerstone to build on; he won’t waver, shy away, or settle he is here to lead and to win.
I first became familiar with Suh when he was playing in the 2009 Holiday Bowl. Nebraska vs Arizona. I watched in amazement at how Suh would just move his man out of the way and make a tackle. It was like he’d let them block him until he decided he wanted to make a tackle and he just threw the guy away and blew up the play. I can’t recall having seen anything like it since seeing Reggie White play ball. The only other player in my lifetime who was just as ferocious besides White was Deacon Jones. That’s elite company for Suh if you are scoring at home.
Of course there have been many, many great defensive linemen that have played over the last fifty years. However there have only been those three that have stood out in such a profound way to me. They all play with a meanness that frankly is scary. They all have unimaginable power, the ability to use leverage as if it was an innate sense and unbelievable quickness for men their size. Now I know Deacon Jones and Reggie White played Defensive End and Suh plays Defensive Tackle but Suh plays every bit like Jones and White.
If I were to round my top Defensive front players into a Mount Rushmore the player to add would be Mean Joe Greene. He’s tossed a few linemen around as well.
Green – White – Suh – Jones
Now that’s elite company.
For you older Dolphin fans the player most like Suh from our past would be Manny Fernandez. Fernandez was relentless, fierce and crazy. He never got the national recognition that a lot of other players around the league did, I guess when you play on the “No-name Defense” that tends to happen. Manny played with rage and was very difficult to block he piled up tackles on that defense and was a large part of the success of the 72 and 73 Dolphins.
Suh caught my attention at the ‘09 Holiday Bowl and although I was late to arrive I immediately knew what I was looking at. We had the 12th pick in the 2010 draft and I would blog incessantly on how we should “pay the freight” and move up to get him. I recall one blogger asking what style of D we would play since Suh is not a Nose Tackle and we were a 3-4 defense and I remember answering “whichever style Suh wants”. Of course we didn’t trade up, we traded back in fact. After 5 years of no playoffs and struggling to be a .500 team perhaps I was right those five years ago.
Alas, Suh has found his way to Miami where we can all relish and enjoy what this great player has in store for us. This is no ordinary free agent signing. We didn’t just sign an average to above average NFL player here, we got a bonafide Star and great player in Suh. Be grateful Dolphan, rejoice! And be happy.
Suh is here for You!

S/O my bro @ellerbe59 … Great leader, even better person. Get healthy and give me hell brodie.
“Is it possible Wallace changes his colors? Can we give him a shot?”
wait? they have shots for that now. i bet Michael Jackson is just rolling over in his grave.
LOL! One of your better one-liners today.
Whoa!
But, but that mature, team first guy was going to restructure his contract in his desire to stay a Fin and help the team…
Lol, honestly the team has surprised me with every move they’ve made this offseason. I wouldn’t be surprised if we keep or cut Wallace. I’m just enjoying the ride right now.
Kenny Stills has Jeremy Maclin ability for $10.5M less this year & next…lol
Gotta get some lunch. BBL
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
Now I’m being told there were questions about Kenny Stills’s work habits. Apparently enjoys the nightlife. No worries in Miami.
Of course mando doesn;t waste time stirring the pot
No worries, he was just a fan of Mardi Gras
Would be stupid to cut Wallace this year. We are in the cheapest part of his contract, now less than the Maclin deal KC paid, as well as the franchise tag numbers for Demaryius & Dez, etc…SMH. Plus he said he’s now open to restructure.
You only cut Wallace if you’re worried about him being a cancer in the locker room.
In case you were wondering
Stills ran a 4.38 at the combine
Guy has real speed
Jahn,
You think Hundley will do much in the NFL?
Saints released CB Corey White.
White lost his starting corner spot to Terrance Frederick late last season and only played sporadically after that. He’s inconsistent, but some team is likely to take a chance on White because of his versatility. In addition to playing outside corner, White has also spent time at nickel back and safety.
______________________________
He’ll get him in the mix competing here. I’ll take him over T.J. Heath.
Jahn, were you surprised my wife and I didnt come up to you like this?
This is disturbing!
NFL Network’s Albert Breer says the Dolphins want to use Jordan Cameron and Charles Clay the same way the Patriots used Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.
____________________________
Just keep any guns away from Clay.
Love that idea. That’s what we originally wanted to do with Keller and Clay.
Yup
We need Wallace IMO – he led the team with 10 TDs him & Stills together would be a sick combo
Most WRs have a little prima donna attitude — I rather have a guy who wants the ball all the time and who scares the defense.
And quits on his team?
Keep our eyes on this development.
The Saints may have to release RG Jahri Evans to make cap space for C.J. Spiller.
Evan Woodbery of the New Orleans Times-Picayune says “something almost has to happen,” and he predicts it will occur in the next 24 hours. As we’ve seen with Friday’s Kenny Stills trade, Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks are the only players on the roster viewed as untouchable. Evans carries a $6.8 million base salary in 2015 and has been rumored as a cut candidate since the start of free agency.
Stills runs crisp routes AND fights for the ball. Maybe Wallace can learn about route running being more than just the fly …
I love the idea of Cameron and Clay on the field at the same time. I think we’ve been talking about this for a decade now.
I would think a lot of 20 something year olds like the night life.
He had a DUI in 2013
There were off field questions before he was drafted
He was actually a 5th round pick
As we know there are a lot of guys in the NFL who’ve done dumb stuff. We didn’t just sign him to a big contract so we’ll see.
Spiller goes to Saints.
Andrew Abramson ✔ @AbramsonPBP
It’s been reported numerous times that #Dolphins Mike Wallace has a guarantee coming tomorrow. Not true. He got that guarantee on 3-15-14.

Happy to have you bro @KSTiLLS Welcome to the Fam @MiamiDolphins #FinsUp
I do think it’s very possible that Mike Wallace is cut. I said that earlier, but now with the Stills trade, I think it’s almost certain. I think we’ll be OK without him.
am sure glad spiller is gone from afc east
We swapped McCoy for Spiller. I think we were better off with Spiller. McCoy didn’t look great last year, but he carried the ball a whole lot last year.
mccoy is very scary, but spiller can score a lot of different ways … i guess he is redundant to Sammy Watkins though.
If we cut Wallace this year it’s financially dumb, but might be necessary to keep him from infecting the locker room … if we do cut him then we need to draft jalen strong or dorial GB
OINK AND AGREED on Strong
Naples – Do you like Strong better than White and Parker, or just think he’s more liekly to be available when we pick?
if the problem with wallace is he has a piss poor attitude then how would the signing of suh and the moves so far not correct that attitude. one would think it would make him happy the team is making such a commitment
you are correct … i think
Mike Wallace 4.33
Kenny Stills. 4.38
If Jahri Evans is cut…. what is he worth to the Dolphins in terms of $$$?
I’d be all over him at OG. BloomU Alumni😁
I like all 5 of them equally: Cooper, White, Strong, Parker, and DGB, but I think Strong and DGB will be available and I’d grab either one. We can get Anthony to play MLB in the second.
DGB has the character issues, which makes him so much less likely as a pick here. I do like Stephone Anthony, as I’ve already told you. For some reason, Kevin White is my favorite.

ffr. two days 7 hours 49.30 then he said fuck this no one can finish it i quit.
It sounds like we don’t want him to be part of the team.
Sign Clay!
I think we’d take a 6th or 7th for Wallace at this point, doubt we get more. Teams know we’re gonna cut him.

Heard this a little while back but i thought a lot of the moves they were doing were to find a way to keep him. Administration there have really tried working with him to have him restructure, and the fanbase and pundits think he is a guy they should strive to keep. Hopefully it just a business decision that has to happen, but i dunno if id hold my breath. Maybe we should offer Wallace in trade for him lol.
At this point with the Saint an their trades/cuts/acquisitions id throw anything at the wall and see if it sticks.

Mike Wallace could be traded and Charles Clay close to re-signing http://sbnation.com/e/7974782

Can only hope
Don’t know what to make of the Wallace rumors at this point.
If the Fins don’t want Wallace, what would be the benefit to leaking info about a possible restructuring. Doesn’t make much sense strategy wise for either side (Fins FO or Wallace’s agent).
If the two sides are really discussing a restructuring, then the Fins FO doesn’t want to send him off.
Wallace’s agent & the Fins front office disagree on what the market value is for the player of course.
Mike’s agent believes his player can get X value elsewhere and Fins front office probably disagree and have their own value.
Fins obviously need a backup plan and Stills acquisition gives them some leverage.
Maybe if they show him willing to restructure the new teams think that he would do that once traded. It never said the Phins were asking him, it was him saying he was open to it, and you have to remember he said “if it wasnt something crazy” so it had to be what he was willing to do, and likely that wasnt going include more than they would get just by cutting him.
Al man, its more than plausible and its got real merit to being a valuable option. A lot of people were let go by team this off season because they saved the team 2.5-3mil, and thats pretty much what he’s worth. He alienated the coach, many teammates and in general set himself many times about team. Its not hard to think that trading him or cutting him would be an option.
smart to sign Cameron for one year in case he has concussion issues.
i wonder if he signed for less than what Cleveland was offereing

After the Suh deal, the rest of these feel like more than just making room for Suh… they feel like “unloading all those Ireland desperation deals” during Ireland’s last couple years here.
I do think thats part of it. I think its pretty much saying, look we tried for a couple of years now to make his pickups work but its the yoke holding us back, lets stop trying to bank a square peg in a round hole and look for a more round peg to put in there.
Phinsider article tossed out a big, whopping, self-confessed, honker of a rumor: Wallace for AP since Minnesota had originally outbid Miami for Wallace… lol
now that would make us a SB contender
Lol- I’d take that trade
Just keep him away from switches
Wallace for AP? I’d let AP spank ME !!!!
AFC East in general has been hella active this FA period and are really bolstering their teams. Its going to be an tough friggin division this year.
Except the pats.
D,
If a trade does happen and Wallace restructures, it usually follows after a deal in place with receiving team and the leak would come from the team looking to acquiring him with player’s agent.
Agents don’t care for the team (or their problems), they only care about their commissions and clients 🙂
Agent can negotiate freely with any team if his client is a FA (via being cut). No way would they bother helping a team out (draft picks etc).
I think we’ve all learned to wait until it’s a done deal instead of speculating. There’s so much misinformation.
Tim,
For sure…the amount of rumors coincides with back and forth negotiations. Last second efforts to squeeze more money out of another team.

See? Hail mary’s just don’t happen on a football field, lol.
D,
Wallace is worth at minimum (market value) 7 per year IMO. I’m being really conservative with that number. Age is a big factor in combination with skill set.
I agree with ya, but thats 5mil off what we are paying him. I doubt VERY seriously he comes off his salary 2mil per much less 5.
D,
I just hope that karma is kind to us and not to the other teams in the division.
I always fear injuries to key players.
Yeah i mean i was hoping same thing last year and we did ok until about half way through the season and then injury stuff just started flowing. We wound up one of them more banged up teams in the NFL.
We definitely could use this year with light injuries to make up for last year. Have to admit though, we did sign a bunch of guys with injury histories, we gambled on them and crapped out. I just hope with Albert this isnt an every year thing. Have to assume he is pretty much on his last surgery before shit starts going downhill for him. I hope he stays healthy for next couple years at least.
Hickey & Tannenbaum should be telling the Vikes GM, “You kinda owe us one buddy. AJ Feely for a 2nd RDer (among other things)?”
Say what? Feeley came from the Eagles.
Spielman engineered that trade from the Fins side.
Lol Jahn!
LOL…just caught that. Typical of me, only funny on accident.
Do you still have your A. J. Feely jersey?
Wonder if they televise the vet combine like they did the regular one. I dont think there will be as much TV draw to justify it, but as i understand Michael Sam will be there so that should draw some attention to it.

Brandon Weeden had a short NFL Career, but he wouldn’t have had one at all, if Stills wasn’t on the Sooners catching all those passes.
I think Weeden was a Ok St QB. And Dez made him look good.

Dez Bryant was OSU, but he was before Weeden i think.

Weeden took over as OSU’s QB in 2010, Bryant left in 2009.
k, thats right.
I would take AP for Wallace. Better than cutting him outright, plus, AP is gonna play hard this year.
I kinda like that Ireland is in NO. I think he should convince them to take Wallace off our hands while he’s down there.

This truly puzzles me. If Charles Clay is Buffalo’s top free agent option, & he fits perfectly in their offense. Why can’t a deal get done?

C’mon Omar….Duh, Clay really wants to stay in Miami, giving them all the time they need to get something worked out before he hastily makes a move he may later regret. He knows what he has in Miami, not so much in Buffalo with their QB situation.

Mike Wallace texted teammates saying he’d been on phone with Minny GM Rick Spielman, HC Mike Zimmer, & he was likely headed to Vikes.
May not be for AP. Do the Vikes have any good DBs or LBs?
Maybe Patterson?
Wasn’t he an Oinking Samurai?
That could possibly be better than for AP
I would love Wallace for AP.
I doubt that the trade
Do to think its Patterson either
Piggy, are you waning us to not be greedy?
Warning
I think it’s Harrison smith or picks
Probably just picks
I’d rather have draft picks for Wallace if possible. Love AP but not his contract and dont know of any other players id want. Where is Randy and his can when you have pressing questions?
I think it could very well be for AP. I read where AP’s father was very mad at the Vikings FO on how they handles his son, and we know Wallace made Philbin and others mad here.
Vikes need a WR for Bridgewater to be happy and they’ve already gotten used to AP not running the ball last season.
Seems a very logic fit as both teams are looking to unload past grievances.
Whoa!!! on Wallace to the Vikes.
This could also signal the Phins feel like a resigning of Clay is imminent.
The Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero reports Mike Wallace will “likely” be traded to the Vikings.
Salguero reports Wallace has been on the phone with the Vikings for over an hour. After acquiring Kenny Stills earlier Friday, the Dolphins placed Wallace on the trade block for at least the second time this offseason. This time it appears they have found a taker. The Vikings are in need of playmakers around second-year QB Teddy Bridgewater, and Wallace would be a great fit in OC Norv Turner’s downfield passing attack. With 2014 revelation Charles Johnson opposite Wallace and Greg Jennings manning the slot, Bridgewater will be surrounded by a much-improved arsenal in 2015.
I will root for and say wow if we end up with Peterson, but I’d rather not bring him here with his baggage. He does bring a negative light to all the positive going on. No denying him as a player, but I question his character.
WTF!!! Ok, now draft me my big WR in the 1st round damn it!
Andrew Abramson ✔ @AbramsonPBP
Mike Wallace has been traded to #Vikings for 7th round pick per @AdamSchefter. So there you go
Tanny must be feeling bitter sweet….Ok, who’s gonna get me 10TD’s ? 😉
There you go!
I actually proposed a trade just like that a few days ago. It’s to get Wallace and his contract off the team. Simple as that. It was that or releasing him which was going to happen. He was done here in Miami.
Andrew Abramson ✔ @AbramsonPBP
Clarification to earlier tweet: Dolphins get 5th round pick for Mike Wallace. Miami also gives a 7th rounder to Minnesota.
Now we re-sign Clay.
^This
Not at all impressed really. I really hated the loss of a 3rd for a previous 5th even if the player did replace Wallace which was a huge plus.
Getting almost the equivalent of a 6th for an even more experienced speed guy just sucks. I know the price helped make him hard to dump but we really let him go for almost nothing while the even more cash strapped Saints got really good compensation from us.
Guess we have more money now to get actual needs which is really great..but damn that compensation is really awful.
Stills has already outperformed or surpassed 3rd rd status. This is a slam dunk in my mind.
Yeah, I completely agree but we let Wallace go for peanuts.
Not a great trade in terms of return
I think stills fills void Wallace would have left
I just would have liked more
Like many here missed the boat on Suh, you’re not getting the Wallace trade. It’s to get Wallace and his contract off the team. Simple as that. It was that or releasing him which was going to happen. He was done here in Miami.
Better than just cutting him. A mid 5th round pick is fine.
Ok Wallace is gone and we have really did a number today.
Mike E will not be happy
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out you freakin’ malcontent.
LOL.
Does free up a lil more room for Clay, and a lil wiggle room for a FA OG to come in and compete….IMO.
Yeah, I also think this will help land a OG or S.
Who is that?
I just hope this means we re-sign clay.
I will not be surprised if Wallace does well in Minnesota. Their offense seems to be a better fit, and Bridgewater is good long ball thrower.
And they can run PA off from a base power formation that teams have to honor because of AP.
Agreed. It’s about who fits well with your core and building a TEAM.
Kudos to flippin’ Hickenbaum. We replace what Wallace does on the cheap, dump him and his big ass contract AND flip a 7th for a 5th.
Our favorite Jewish redneck!
LMAO, yep!
