A Sonny Football Fantasy
A Complete Homer Draft
by John D (son of a son of a shula)
In an NFL first, the Miami Dolphins have drafted their entire 2015 class from the same school. Although the Fins brass says that it “just worked out that way” they used all six of their picks on UCF Knights. The Offense got a huge boost with a big receiver and also nice developmental receiver. The Defense was bolstered with a hard hitting Safety, a ball hawking corner and an inside linebacker who hits like a truck. Let’s examine the haul and see if holes were filled.
Breshad Perriman wowed scouts with his amazing Pro day. Enough so that the Dolphins were compelled to pick him with the 14th pick in the draft leaving DeVante Parker on the board. GM Dennis Hickey sighting physical play and pure speed as the reason for the pick. “We felt Breshad could come in and add a dynamic dimension to our Offense, a mix of physicality and a burst of pure speed”, said Hickey as he addressed the media after day one of the 2015 NFL Draft. Perriman checked in at 218 lbs, at 6’3”, was a big play receiver at UCF and is the son of former UM receiver and NFL player with the Lions Brett Perriman.
With the 47th pick in the draft the Dolphins selected a Safety, although a bit of a surprise at 47 Clayton Geathers led all DB’s at the combine in both the bench press and the vertical jump. A four year starter for the Knights Geathers was a leader on the defense that finished as the 10th rank team in the nation in 2013. Geathers 4’55 speed and hard hitting will pair well with Reshad Jones to round out the Safety position. Geathers will vie for playing time against Michael Thomas and last year’s 4th round pick Walt Aikens. The book on Geathers is summed up with this, “ Cherishes his role as a hitter”.
Without a 3rd round pick, which was used to aquire Kenny Stills, the Dolphins chose to sit still and wait until the 114th pick in the 4th round to select the next player for the secondary and third pick of the draft for the team. The Dolphins felt Jacoby Glenn wouldn’t last until the 5th round and was a player they had high marks on. Glenn entered the draft after his sophomore season and has a very high ceiling. As a redshirt sophomore in 2014, Glenn started all 13 games, recording 48 tackles and seven interceptions. He was named the American Athletic Conference‘s co-Defensive Player of the Year and was also a second team All-American. Salty cornerback who plays with passion and intensity, Glenn may struggle with the speediest of receivers but is best suited to play in a zone type of system.
Heading to round 5 of the draft the Dolphins are armed with back to back picks at 149 and 150. Having already picked 3 UCF players it would seem highly unlikely that another Knight would come off the board here let alone two more consecutively. But alas that is exactly what happened. The Dolphins found a hard hitting inside Linebacker at 149 in Terrance Plummer and followed that pick with another addition to the WR room with the selection of Rannell Hall. Plummer was the enforcer of the UCF defense, he would throttle receivers coming into his area of the field, very mobile and shows good diagnostic skills. He’ll contribute as a Special teamer while he works himself into the defensive rotation. Rannell Hall is a crafty receiver who isn’t afraid to do the dirty work, he fights for yardage over the middle and is an excellent route runner. He’ll compete with Matt Hazel for a possible roster spot but may spent his first year on the practice squad.
With the Dolphins sixth round and final pick of the draft there is absolutely no way another Knight comes off the board, who’s left there anyway is the real question. A big ‘ol offensive lineman is left that’s who. 6’3 320lb Torrian Wilson to be exact, a solid Guard who played on UCF’s zone blocking line for the last four years. Wilson played Tackle for his first three years but was moved to G for his Senior year where he is best suited. Wilson will compete with a range of other young players to try and earn a spot on the Dolphins offensive line, his experience in the blocking scheme may help him.
This draft addresses many of the needs the Fins had entering the draft now it is on George O’leary’s guys to show they have what it takes to succeed in the NFL. As Jeff Ireland once said, “if our evaluations were right then we hit a home run (something to that effect), well Ireland was completely wrong by and large when he said that the evals were horrible as Martin freaked out and Eggfooyoung washed out. Hopefully Hickey got it right with this class. So there you have it for the first time ever an NFL team has used its entire draft to select players from the same school and that honor shall belong to Central Florida’s own UCF Knights.

Mock Poll Draft UPDATE
(a trumpet plays int he background)
Tam – J. Winston; Ten – L. Williams; Jax – D. Fowler, Jr.; Oak – K. White; Wash – V. Beasley; NYJ – M. Mariota; Chi – D. Shelton; Atl – S. Ray; NYG – B. Scherf; STL – L. Collins; MIN – A. Cooper
With the 11th pick, the Vikings took Amari Cooper
The Browns are on the Clock
The Browns were 23rd in the NFL in Yards given up and 23rd in the NFL in yards gained
So they sort of need a little help everywhere
Here is there depth chart

The Rams are on the clock
..And Rick Perry is on the cock
Lol
LOL!
LOL
For the most part, we’re still all in high school… Lol
Bye Bye Cooper.
This actually could be the first realistic landing spot for Gurley.
I think cooper and Gurley are options
But I went OL again
Yeah Mike E, that’s me….lol. Imagine Tanny having a go to WR with his size. I think all the stuff about his past issues are a lil overblown. But ya never know right.
I remember the bad press on Dan Marino’s past when he was in the draft. Shula didn’t flinch, and scooped him up after most every team passed on him.
You know what you’re going to hear- “Dan Marino wasn’t accused of beating up or bullying women, either..”. And they would be right. It IS a big deal, GDP. It has to be accounted for.
I also haven’t watched a woman being belittled, but I got a good idea what it would be like.
It’s not even about whether we’d take him (We won’t), it’s about your dedication to sniffing him. I think you pimp him as much as I pimped kaep. Close anyway. 🙂
Leave GDP alone so what he’s got a lil man crush going
Do you have a connection inside the Dolphins FO? Nooo
Did you even watch the interviews? Noooo
Piggy
Maybe the monkey is IN Landry’s arm. lol
That’s a gorilla not a monkey
Mike E, he’s obviously into being big.

Unfortunately, that stuff makes you big in some places and smaller in others…
Son, thanks….I think….lol
I like a lot of the Big WR’s this class. I’m high on White, Perriman, DGB, Strong, Mayle, Waller.
And the chicks at the wanee fest- yikes!
I can’t help it you just looked at the dudes.
good group there, I like them all too
Got to think that Dallas is going after AP. with Tony Romo taking such a huge restructure to save the Cowboys $13M. Remember they lost Murray in FA.
good point, wow that would be huge for them
AP is from Texas where “whoopin” children isnt out of the norm.
..and governors eat corndogs..
So we brought in Freeman, well Omar’s got a new favorite QB to root for.
Right, no doubt there
James Walker ✔ @JamesWalkerNFL
#Dolphins QB Josh Freeman said he spent some time recently with HOF QB Kurt Warner: “He’s an amazing guy. …He’s someone to learn from.”
__________________
….and now he’ll learn from Tanny & Lazor.
Im thinking he wont be on the roster come trim down to 53.
He will be if he really shines but he has a very uphill battle right now
D, I’d like to see Freeman or Moore, become good trade bait if they shine in camp & PS.
Seems every year some team around the NFL loses their starting QB to an injury.
This could be very good forward thinking by our FO, besides just sitting on McLeod Bethel-Thompson…lol
Utah’s Dres Anderson is the son of former Rams wide receiver Willie “Flipper” Anderson, who holds the NFL record for most receiving yards in a game (336, 1989)
GDP
I’m not picking on ya, just playin’ around man. It’s OK that you’re in love
GDP loves DGB. 😉
I know, it’s all good fun, Right Mr. Hand???
GDPB or DGBP?
Yessir GDP! I’ve been dealing with that for years, I think you can handle this until the draft.
GDDGB 😉
Don’t be surprised if the numbers this year match those of 2014 when five wide receivers were taken in the first round and another seven went in the second.
Collins leads the voting with 3 voteeroos
ST Louis has enough need for an OL that i think Collins would be too tempting to pass up for them but way they have been last few years i wouldnt be suprised if he traded back.
They did draft Greg Robinson last year, but Collins can play either G or T for them. I’m not sure, and I don’t even think they’re sure if Robinson is an OT or and OG.
Now you got the right team for Robinson
I was just going to keep saying that until I hit the right team. lol
Rams depth chart
http://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/STL
They have lots of young receivers
But no great receiver
I think St Louis like trades the pick if they get a decent offer, if not i think they would take an OL over a WR. Being a run based offense, or balanced at best, they would get more from an OL selection. WCO like ours have a stronger value on WR’s because we are expecting to get rid of the ball before pass rush becomes too much of a issue. Having receivers that can get open early is a big dea, and thats why i lean towards us going WR over OL with ours unless we have lost out on any of the WR we feel fit our offense well. White likely will be gone, but i think even if he was there with Parker they would select Parker. Cooper may be a different story, again, unlikely it happens but if Cooper and Parker are both there same time, it probably would be Cooper.
Wow! You think if both White and Parker were there we’d take Parker. I’m not so sure sbout that. I think we’d take White, and pretty fast too.
Me too Mike. White is light years better than those other two. I’m not sure the fascination with DGB to be honest. I think the Randy Moss comparisons got into peoples heads even though I think the comparisons are way off the mark. The kid can’t run a route.
But anyway, we’re not going to take him, I agree with that.
I would take White before Parker too.
I’d take Perriman before Parker too.
I’d take DGB before Parker too.
Sharing in the man love…can’t beat that…but Piggy might go Strong on ya! lol
We have Landry who can take a wild bird under his wing, I like our chances.
I forgot about the Big Ape! Thanks for the reminder Son!
West Fest in SD this year. Lets do this!
Manitoba, Phindog, Rhino, Cavkong, Gigi, Myself and anyone else who wants to come! DRG? Boulder? Any other West of the Mississippi folk?
That would be awesome. I’ll bet DrG would go he’s always traveling. I think he said a while back that San Diego was like his second home.
I know he came out for a game in SF a couple years back…
Count me in + 2
Sammy Watkins’ hip injury was diagnosed as a “slight tear in his labrum.”
Watkins’ injury occurred late last season, and he underwent surgery “around Super Bowl time.” Per the Buffalo News’ Vic Carucci, Watkins won’t participate much — if at all — during post-draft Organized Team Activities, but is fully expected to return by training camp.
Im not saying who is better dude, im saying who fts our offense better. Fans easily pick Whie, and i understand that, but im picking as the Dolphins not as me. White does not run the corssing routes as well as Parker, he doesnt gain separation on his breaks as much as he does from just pure speed. He gets open on deeper throws better, but our offense is centered around crossing routes and quicker developing plays. If you ask me who most teams take, id say White, hence why he will be off the boards, but for us and a few other teams, Parkers the better receiver. Same way last year Beckham Jr vs Watkins. I would have taken Beckham over Watkins because of the fit.
Parker is also a better RZ receiver. Inside the 10 in particular is where we struggled, and inside the 10 without the yardage to let his speed help, Parker is going to be the better guy.
Oh and who are they bringing in for private workouts, who have the met 3 times with now….. Its not White.
I think White can do whatever Parker does, I really do. He’s the more talented player. I think he can run crossing routes if that’s what he’s asked to do. He’s a “it’s my ball” type of receiver. I think he’d be the pick for us, I really do.
Stop making sense.
For what you said its why I think we may move up to get Cooper.
Cooper is the only one better than Parker IMO, and then it really comes down if they want a big bodied guy or are good with 6’1
Manitoba… Real sorry to hear about your wife’s Father passing away last night. Please give her a Big hug for us !!! Let her know she is in our thoughts..
Oh man, what a shame. Sorry Toba and Mrs Toba
Sorry to hear that as well. My best to the family Manitoba.
I musta missed this earlier, really sorry to hear about that man. Hope everyone is doing ok and beginning to heal.
Sorry to hear that Toba. My condolences to you and your family.
Everyone enjoy your holidays and be safe.
Peace
Shalom Tim
You to Tim, just relax and take it one pickle at a time….
You too Tim, enjoy!
Damn
Tanny keeps it up and he won’t be able to throw it 20 yards! 😉
Gotta stay stout behind Randy’s OL….lol

BrianCat @BrianCat13 · 10m10 minutes ago
Very surprising to see G Stefan Wisniewski and OT Joe Barksdale still out there in Free Agency with so many teams in need of OT’s and C/G’s.
…and Justin Blalock, Brian De La Puente.
Doesn’t Wisniewski have a fairly serious shoulder injury? He could be standing ground on salary requirments knowing someone will pick him up post-draft. Don’t know much about Barksdale TBH. I guess I’d have to know him to be surprised he’s still a FA.
La-El Collins to the Rams
The Vikings are on the board now
BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Player visits have a very weak correlation to who a team drafts. I heard 2 former GMs (Polian and Kirwan) both say they often brought in players to throw other FOs off the track of who they really wanted, and more often than not, the early round players they drafted had never visited the facility.
Here’s a list of the KNOWN visits from last years pre-draft action. Not one of them were drafted by the Fins.
Marqise Lee, WR, USC
Garrett Scott, OT, Marshall
Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU
Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson
Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OT, McGill University
Seantrel Henderson, OT, Miami
Kevin Pamphile, OT, Purdue
Spencer Long, G, Nebraska
Forgot to list the one that we did pick was a visit as well…..just saying be fair.
For Mike E 😛
http://m.quickmeme.com/p/3vph7f
Lol, that’s awesome!
Jahn
That was the first time I have heard of an injury!
Really haven’t been paying to much attention?
Here ya go Wyo. Apparently he played with a torn labrum last season and had surgery to repair it during the offseason:
http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasyfootball/update/25129247/report-stefen-wisniewski-had-offseason-shoulder-surgery
Toba,
Sorry to hear the bad news.
On a lighter note, sorry about your boy Collins Mike E. At least today, he’s going to a different average team with a very average coach, lol.
LOL! Odds are he’s gone before we draft, and really, I have no problem drafting a WR, as long as Cooper, White or Parker are there.
Jahn, We brought in James and spoke with him at senior bowl. Same as with Parker we spoke with him multiple times. Its not the visit per say, but showing that much interest to interview or meet with a guy 3 times, thats not nothing. Again man, i understand you feeling and i understand you think White is better. Im showing you tangible things that say the Phins have a strong interest in Parker….show me something in reflection towards White if you want to defend your stance,
D,
When I have more time I’ll tell you why I think White is a better fit for the Fins, but in shorthand, he’s a better overall receiver (IMHO, by a fairly substantial margin) and I’m not discarding that for a specific skillset like separation on crossing routes.
But actually my post was about correlation of visits and who gets drafted. Even if you knew about James last year (I didn’t) you gave me 1 single example and I listed like a dozen names, none of whom got drafted. You asserted that the visits were clues, but I gave you tangible evidence they are, if anything, contra-indicators.
Billy Turner
So you’ve given me two examples I can’t find evidence of via Google. The Herald said we met with James last year, but they said it THIS WEEK. James Walker posted a list of known visits last year and James nor Turner are on the list.
Still, I concede. If you knew about them, that makes 2 of 15 known prospects who visited got drafted by the fins. I stand by my assertion, Parker coming in for a visit doesn’t mean they like him better than White.
It’s a moot point since White will be long gone by the time we draft anyway.
LOL @ Gigi! That’s great!
I think there are a ton of 1st RD picks that never met with the teams they were drafted by. I don’t think it really means anything at all. Maybe they wanted to meet with James to make sure he was worthy of being chosen in the 1st RD. White is a top 15 on almost every teams board.
They Met with Turner multiple times too. I dont thin it means they will pick them but it surely means they have them on their bigboard and probably pretty decently ranked on it.
I don’t think they met with Landry though, did they?
Did you know they met with James? I didn’t. I gave a comprehensive list above, those were the known visits as of 4/28/14 from James Walker. He didn’t know about James either.
I think, with the only year with Hickey we have to reflect on, if you know about a visit, that its actually less likely we’ll draft that player than more.
Here’s Walkers article listing the visits:
http://espn.go.com/blog/miami-dolphins/post/_/id/7026/recapping-dolphins-pre-draft-visits
White is going to be a stud. And that’s why he won’t be around at pick #14. 🙂
Agreed. There’s a reason that he’s universally considered a higher ranked prospect than Parker. I like Parker, but if it were him vs. White on the board for us, I’d take White 101 times out of 100.
Lol, I like that kind of certainty. I watched him all year and he’s the real deal. He made an average college QB look pretty good. Tanny would love his effort and skill.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday, Happy Easter and Happy Passover for those who celebrate!
Happy Passover yourself bro.
Absolutely sure he met with them, as did Turner.
Marqise Lee, WR, USC
Garrett Scott, OT, Marshall
Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU
Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson
Donte Moncrief, WR, Ole Miss
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, OT, McGill University
Seantrel Henderson, OT, Miami
Kevin Pamphile, OT, Purdue
Spencer Long, G, Nebraska
Add as many names as you can (I’d love to see a link, I posted mine above) and the correlation between KNOWN visits and draftees is still very very weak.
I believe that after the fact they don’t mind revealing they met players predraft, but at this point in the game the names you know are not the guys they’re targeting.
So visits mean nothing, except to deceive other teams….makes sense lol
Whatever you want to believe. I just shared some information is all.
Its cool Jahn, i can accept that they wont take Parker an the three times they have met with them means they hate him.
Gonna stand on my last post. I don’t like the game where people try to take an extreme of your argument to make it sound less believable. I shared information, that’s generally what I do here. Sorry if it doesn’t jive with what you believe.
Gonna sign off. Cheers all. Happy whatever Holiday you’re celebrating. Even if it’s “mow the lawn Sunday” (OD!)
Before I bail, Manitoba, so sorry to hear of the death in your family. Thoughts and +vibes bro.
So, who won the Tim Dancers poll? Was it Spunky? I’ll bet it was!
MANITOBA, my Canadian brother: Sincere condolences to your wife for her great loss. I hope you can remember the great times you had with him. Bet he may have taken in a hockey game or two, eh? Hope he was a Jets fan (that’s WINNIPEG JETS TO YOU NFL FANS). Your entire family is in our thoughts.
AFTER DISPOSING OF #6 ranked UCF’s baseball team 11-5 Tuesday night, Florida Atlantic seems headed to another impressive win, leading Marshall 9-4 in the bottom of the eighth in Boca Raton, A win would leave FAU with a 24-6 record at the halfway point of the season. Hope the team from Huntington, West Virginia, brought their sun tan lotion for the next two games because the highs in south Florida the next two days will be near 90 degrees
———-
Signing off b/c I’ve got to get up at 5:45 tomorrow morning to drive to a convention. But, hey, I’ve got sunday off to mow the lawn (as Jahndoh referred to a few spaces up the page). –Somewhere it’s SNOWIN’ but I’ll be mowin’!! –Good night to all of you wonderfull Dolfans!
D
I remember we met with Colin Kaepernick 3 times the year he was in the draft, and we didn’t take him. It doesn’t always mean we’re gonna draft the guy. It also doesn’t mean we’re NOT going to draft him.
I’m up late but it was great to have family over. Had a family drama blowup too but I’m proud to say that everyone was mature enough to put the fire out and regroup. 🙂
I’ll tell ya, I feel like I’ve been given a test on mortality. I’m tired of thinking about that. I want to live and have fun. If you’re not doing that you’re not living. As OD said, this life is precious.
The way this draft is shaping up, if I’m Miami I’m looking to land Cooper. Might be trade up time if it goes down like this.
I think that guy can change the dynamic of our offense along with the new changes and a few other guys who have proven themselves.
Have I said how much I hate work!!
Manitoba,
I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Please pass my condolences along to the Mrs.
Tim,
What the hell were you doing up at 2:10 am?
What a fantastic night last night was. 26 people at our Seder, and it was tight, but it was really nice. Family, good friends, it’s these things that couldn’t be more important, or more enjoyable.
I hope you all enjoyed and continue to enjoy your holiday.
Tim
Just caught your post about last night. When family is involved, anything can happen. Glad you were able to resolve it. 🙂
Cooper is the pick to the Vikings
OK, Browns are on the clock
Piggly
Do you know how to update the teams picks?
Nope
No biggie. I have no idea either. I guess when Jeff comes around, he’ll updte it. maybe he can show us.
Browns acquired Dwayne Bowe and Hartline
but do they need another WR
Last year they acquired Paul Kruger
I don;t know where to go with the Browns
I would probably go Gurley if Richardson wasn;t such a nightmare
I had to go BPA in Trae Waynes
Could be an elite CB duo in Clev
I think Randy Gregory is the best player actually. He’s a bonafide top 10 guy before the weed issue.
He probably is bpa
But I can’t imagine the browns bring him in given their troubles with Gordon and Manziel so I backed off picking Gregory
And Waynes was the next bpa IMO
I think I’ve figured out how to update the results. If someone tells me what the picks are I’ll add them.
They are at the top at the end of the story
The only one to add is Amari cooper to Minnesota
ok…lol….I’ve not been reading much at all this week. Monthly end closing at work which is always crazy. Let me give this a try. 🙂
If whomever keeps, picking Dupree and Gregory pick together – those guys would be off the board
They are splitting the pass rusher vote
I picked Dupree
I’m not as forgiving of the SMOKE as some folks are!
It’s not a bad pick
I’m a little surprised he is on the board now
Just saying the vote is getting split with the pass rushers
Yay! It worked!!! 🙂
That’s awesome. How do you figure these things out?
It’s a gift! lol Seriously, I just find where in the blog something is and usually can figure out how to update it.
Impressive
Woop woop
Piggy
That makes sense. Between Gordon and Manziel, they better be careful with that pick.
LB Spencer Paysinger sees ‘opportunity’ with Dolphins
The Dolphins certainly will add more competition at linebacker between now and September. But Paysinger is excited to be part of that competition. He has 14 career starts in four seasons with the Giants.
“I believe so. Every linebacker that plays in the NFL wants to be a starter,” Paysinger said. “But I’m not here trying to undercut anybody or try to throw anybody under the bus. I want to come here and play the opportunity that’s been provided to me.”
http://espn.go.com/blog/miami-dolphins/post/_/id/14185/lb-spencer-paysinger-sees-opportunity-with-dolphins
Sounds like he is a Pretty high character guy.
That’s nice to see!!
That’s a good signing, he should replace Trusnik. Don’t really know anything about him other than what was written in the article, but if nothing else he can stand out on STs.
I would be pretty happy with this!
14: R1P14 WR AMARI COOPER ALABAMA
47: R2P15 ILB BENARDRICK MCKINNEY MISSISSIPPI STATE
114: R4P15 OG JOSUE MATIAS FLORIDA STATE
149: R5P13 CB LORENZO DOSS TULANE
150: R5P14 FB TYLER VARGA YALE
191: R6P15 S ADRIAN AMOS PENN STATE
It works
But 1 more LB would be nice
Greedy piggy
Cooper has as much chance to slip to #14 as Luck did to slip to #8 a few yrs back. That’s why you guys kill me with these mock draft sites.
I think the rush DE’s will go higher than most folks say they will also?
We will see in May!
Listen to DGB in interviews @ combine. He sounds like a changing man for the better. Maybe he’s growing up.
Check out the short video’s of those interviews @ this link.
Video 1, 4, 5 are DGB talking about himself…..it’s interesting.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/dorial-green-beckham?id=2552491
——————
Good post Getter. He sounds pretty good in the interviews, but I have a problem with him looking at the camera (he doesn’t enough). No question he has the talent, especially around the goal line, he’d be a steal in the 2nd, but not sure he’d get past NE in the first.
He sounds like his family has put their weight on his shoulders when he talked about the family, and I’m sure that played into his decision to come out this yr. He does enough things great to not worry too much about some of his weaknesses, the one in particular is having trouble with physical corners.
He’s the kind of guy that makes the opposition pick their poison, do you put your #1 corner on him and let Stills run wild or vice versa, either way the O wins.
I’m really having a hard time with the idea of drafting any other spot in the first other than WR, a big WR. I like Cooper and Perriman a lot, DGB fits in with those two. Our offense was fun when we had Oronde Gadsen, lets bring in that type of WR.
With the extra point about to change this yr we need some real threats around the goal line, between Cameron, Stills and one of these big rookies you can’t cover them all.
OOPS

@OmarKelly @SiClancy Omar lol, YOUR fans do the same because YOU hold yourself out to be an EXPERT on twitter rather than merely a reporter
Omar an expert? He has too much of an agenda to be an expert at anything.
Excellent! Did he respond?
Yeah, and what an idiot:
“@Richard6750: YOUR fans do the same because YOU hold yourself out to be an EXPERT» I’m paid to do it. Kinda makes me an expert.
He doesn’t know the difference between a professional and an expert.
We all love the WR with the sub 4.35 speed, yet the result is usually something closer to Heward-Bay. This year we love the big fast WR, Cooper may not be discussed much, because he’ll surely go early, but he’s closer to Jerry Rice than any other WR in this draft class is to any other Hall of Famer.
He’s often compared to Reggie Wayne. Either way, you’re getting a very good WR.
This year it seems like people are favoring size over speed
Coopers 40 time was pretty good and compares favorably to Strong, Parker and DGB
Perriman and White ran very fast times. Perriman did his at his pro day
But cooper is no slouch
He ran a 4.42
He is actually 6’1 too
And pretty physical as a WR
It’s just that there are Other good WRs
I like White’s size and his strength and his speed. He’s got a big frame and long arms, and has the strength to fight for the ball.
May Al Davis rest in peace!
Looks like Parker is going to the Browns. Making the Dolphins pick less attractive, and likely aching for a trade back. I can see us drafting Randy Gregory. If that did happen, I think I’d be annoyed with that choice. I know you can never get enough pass rushers, but that’s just too much.
Wyo
Are you calling me Al Davis because I like White?
No my reply to piggy for the size over speed comment1 😉
There’s Al!
Evan Silva @evansilva · 45m45 minutes ago
Jeremy Maclin & Nelson Agholor had the exact same Combine weigh-in: 6001, 198. Maclin ran 4.48 with 1.62 10-yard split. Agholor 4.42, 1.59.
Yea, Agholor or Dorsett in the 2nd is what I’m hoping for. I’m probably in the minority here when I say I hope we go either OL or DB in the 1st, not WR.
For me it would be Brandon Scherff or La’el Collins. If both guys are gone I would then look at Cameron Erving, Byron Jones, or Eric Kendricks in a trade down. Also, Ali Marpet would be the back-up if we are unable to get one of the guys in the 1st.
Brian, some family were at my house to 1AM and was up until almost 3AM. I needed to wind down. LOL
If Parker goes to the Browns, we might try to trade down and we may have some suitors because there are pass rushers still on the board.
Use the Force Tom!
rgs
I’d love La’el Collins at #14. I’d take Scherff too, but I think both will be gone by the time we pick.
Possibly, but someone has to fall when you have 2 QBs, 3WRs, 2OL, 2DBs, and around a half dozen DL/pass rushers that could all go in the top 13.
Just curious, what do you guys think of Ereck Flowers at #14? He’s a power player who moves well. I know he can play tackle, but I’d bet you could move him inside to G as well. That wouldn’t shock me either if we went that way.
I’d take him over a bunch of the other options DE’s, DT’s probably CB’s also
My bother-in-law who is a huge Giants fan, loves what we did in the offseason. He also doesn’t think we’re done and I said, well the top of FA is over so they have the draft, what are you thinking? He smirked at me and I said, you think we’re trading up, and he grinned, and I said for Cooper and he pointed at me as in bingo. He thinks we’re going for it.
Mike

Albert is a
Either of the top OT/OG prospects would not surprise me @14
LOL rgs – No doubt about it! We do this every year man, as Tim likes to say, “There’s nobody left to draft when we pick”. 🙂
lol.
Wyo
Agree 100% I don’t want to count on Albert, and then realize he’s either not ready, or he has a setback and will miss a month or more. Uh-uh, we need to be ready for that.
Don’t be surprised if some of the teams picking a few spots in front of us are looking at Flowers as an OL option. …Very talented guy.
Just remember, every year there is that top 5, 10 or even 15 and then in hindsight we find out a few of them did not pan out as they were projected and other players drafted later become top performers. The NFL draft isn’t like the NBA draft where the studs are at the top and then there is a huge drop off. There are always good prospects throughout the NFL draft.
Closing up my office. I might catch ya later, if not, Happy Holidays to all!
I’ve voted in every poll and I’ve been wrong almost every time. The group think here is too difficult to circumvent. I think our draft up to now is way off. It doesn’t look at all what I’ve seen elsewhere nor do the positions match with what many of the teams would do. Keep going y’all be sure to get us the highest ever drafted guard in draft history, may as well write it in now.
A Guard over Gurley, LMAO
Both Collins and Scherff are tackles who might move inside at guard. Gurley is coming off of knee surgery. I wouldn’t take a RB with that status this high.
I agree.
In this day and age I look at 4 areas/positions in the 1st round. …QB, OL, DL, and DB. Since we already have Tannehill and a pretty solid DL, the other two areas are where we need to upgrade. We need a LB too, but I don’t see one worthy of the 14th pick. Maybe Kendricks in the 20’s if we were to trade down.
I’m interested to see what we do. I don’t have a great feel for how we’ll approach this draft. I think we can go a lot of ways, trade up or down or stay put.
Gurley could get back to health and be stud for 8-10 years, or, he may never be as good as he was before the injury. Get a solid O-line, that can both run block and pass protect better, and everyone on the offense looks better.
If we’re not in the market for an OT, that’s another option we may have to trade down with a team wanting Peat or Flowers. That or pass rushers. We could also take Malcom Brown and just get really good and deep at DT. It’s a premium position.
Sonny
If Lamar Miller had 300 carries, he’d have about 1500 yards last year. How much better than that can Gurley do? A guy that can solidify the O-line will increase everyone’s numbers, QB’s, WR’s, TE’s and RB’s as well. I think you’re being too one sided in your argument. I’d love Gurley on the team, but we’re not a RB away from contending IMO.
Agreed. You can find good backs in later rounds and sometimes even as UFAs. I’m okay going into the season with Miller and Williams as our two main backs.
We’ll see if Gillislee brings anything to the mix. He gets forgotten because he missed last season with an injury and didn’t have much of a body of work as a rookie. I want to see him in our new offense and blocking scheme before writing him off. If you go back and look at his college film you can match it to a lot of prospects coming out this year. He’s a slashy runner who had a knack for big runs. He also catches the ball well.
Tim
Gotta be honest, I’d hate to take a DT, especially after investing $2B on one a couple of weeks ago. lol
We might be forced to take BPA and Brown is a good player who can stop the run and penetrate. I never have an issue with superior depth at DT. One injury and you’re happy you have it. Top talent inside makes your edge rushers even more lethal because the QB can’t step up. A. Johnson, Francis, K. Johnson and Coleman are all still projects until they prove more. That said, I would like to hope one or two of them emerge and we go for another position. But who?
We have some nice young players at DT already. I really think that would be a mistake, especially after dedicating so much $$$ to the position already. We have Suh, Mitchell, (1 the best DT in the NFL, and another solid vet) A. Johnson, Fede, and AJ Francis. I can’t see investing our 1st pick into a DT.
Son,
I’ve been wrong a lot too but Gurley is an interesting case. Even if he had never had multiple early injuries, he might not have gone in the top 10 just because of todays game. So, the option of not taking Gurley is plausible as evidenced by many mocks having us not take him. I’m hoping we dont see a run on the top 3 WRs but anything is possible as evidenced by this draft.
We might take S Landon Collins at #14. He’s known as more of an attack style safety than great coverage guy, but he could be a box safety on early downs and play more like a nickel LB in nickel and dime situations. He has big play ability and is a hard hitting tackler with an aggressive style of play. Could emerge as a leader on defense who sets the tone.

Amen Brother!
I’ve been saying for months we need 2 Safeties in the draft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just saw a peregrine falcon flying around with a little bird in his talons. Felt bad for the little bird but that’s nature. Hearing all the other birds chirping the alarm was kind of sad.
The peregrine falcon is the fastest creature on earth. Reaching speeds of close to 200 MPH in a dive. These things fly through the trees in my backyard like F-16s. Very impressive.
TIM; We live in an area that has plenty of Sand Hill Cranes. A neighbor had a family of 3 of them trained to land on her lawn to take treats approved by her vet for these cranes. It was an awesome sight to see these magnificent birds walk up to her and accept food. The big males stand 4-5 feet tall when walking. And the screaching sounds they make are ultra loud and unforgettable. They are fully protected under Florida law while in the sunshine state. If you hit one driving your car you are in deep trouble with the law.
Another day brings another Florida Atlantic baseball victory. –After beating Marshall last night 9-4, the Owls pounded the Herd 10-3 today under warm weather conditions at FAU Stadium. –Tomorrow’s series finale, scheduled to start at 12 noon, should see temperatures near 90 and heat indexes near 100 degrees out in the sun. A series sweep would leave FAU AT 27-6 and 9-3 in Conference USA.
Any Owls on the baseball tea that also play football?
NOPE, no Bo Jacksons or Deion Sanders types yet.
Tim, Stevan Ridley & Moreno still remain an interest to sign by Miami. That and like you said, we could draft a RB late rounds or even a few UDFA’s to all compete. Deep RB class of talent it seems this year.
OD, very cool on the cranes. I see blue herons, egrets, wild turkey and hawks from time to time. Even an owl once. Hawks and falcons pretty regularly. Saw a dowitcher a week ago. I love seeing wildlife. Makes you feel good to know they can survive in your terrain because life is abundant. Squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and other birds as well – pretty cardinals and woodpeckers. I love it!
HERE’s A FUN FACT: –The NCAA Division I record for most consecutive wins in baseball was set by the Texas Longhorns, 34 straight wins, in 1977. –That record was TIED in 1999 when Florida Atlantic also won 34 consecutive games. Head Coach (at the time) Kevin Cooney, went with a back-up pitcher in game 2 of a double header against the Jacksonville University Dolphins in Jacksonville. The Dolphins won that game 2-1 in extra innings, ending FAU’s quest for baseball’s longest winning streak. Kevin Cooney, old number 20, is the ONLY person in out baseball history to have his number retired. His top assistant, John McCormack, is the current head coach of the team. And John’s wife, Katrina, is the current Sports Information Director.
“OUR” baseball history.

1 day I was in emergency room of Cleveland clinic hospital and I could hear the doctors from another room discussing how they were going to remove a Ibis bird’s beak from this ladies face. I decided to go and look and it appears the bird had lodged its beek into the ladies throat up to and out of her cheek. One of the nurses said they had never scene anything like that.Turns out the lady tried to help the bird that was on the side of the road hurt somehow.
Think about this potential in nickel and dime vs. a heavy pass oriented league. Just some food for thought.
DE Wake
DT Suh
DT Mitchell/Fede
DE Vernon/Jordan
NLB R. Jones
NLB Collins (Rookie Landon Collins)
LCB Grimes
NB McCain
RCB Taylor

That’s a lot of coverage and physical size to defend against the run in spread formations. We would also have blitz options. I call it the ’47’ defense’. 🙂
OUT for now to watch March Madness on WTBS.
Ndamukong Suh averaged 53.25 snaps PG last year. He played in 81.5% of the defensive snaps for DET. Cameron Wake played in 71.5% of the snaps at 47.3. The strong side of our defense is going to be a tough task for opponents to block. That’s why Mitchell, Vernon and Jordan have to make it tough as well on the weak side.
should be interesting next yr when coaches have access to rfid tags attached to players that will provide coaches speed and numerous things involving players performance. Will we see more substitutions. I saw the fins hired a DB (database tech).
I’ve blog with technology people who say RFID tags are embedded into tickets so security personal can provide security at arena’s,stadiums, and ballparks. They say you are tracked inside the venue and they can alert security personal if you are in wrong area or are to far from where your seats are.
