DRAFT DAY 3 WRAP UP
The Dolphins went DB crazy on Day 3.
But they also made a couple of moves that should make the “we need to run the ball” enthusiasts happy.
There were no Trade Ups or Trade Downs in Day 3.
In the 4th Round with the 114th pick the Dolphins selected the big guy you’ve been waiting for.
Jamil Douglas is a 6’4, 304 pound offensive guard and is said to be a good fit in a zone blocking scheme.
Then the 5th round frenzy began!
With their first pick in the 5th round, #145, the Dolphins selected Good Ole’ Bobby McCain, a 5’9 CB from Memphis. Every time you say his name, you can also hear the sound of a harmonica playing…try it!
Just 4 picks later, with the 149th pick of the NFL draft, the Dolphins drafted what some are describing as a steal. The very productive Jay Ajayi is now a Miami Dolphin!
Jay Ajayi can do it all: Run, Catch and Block!
^^^^^^^
Gonna run you over!!!
The Dolphins had back to back picks in the 5th. So with the very next pick, the Dolphins took their 2nd DB of the draft.
With the 150th pick of the NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Cedric Thompson, a free safety from Minnesota.
Think the Dolphins are done at DB? NOPE!
Well, maybe nope…
With their final pick of the 5th round and final pick of the Draft, the Dolphins selected Tony Lippett, the wide receiver/cornerback.
Lippett started games at Michigan State at both WR and CB. Many scouts project him as a CB in the NFL.
This pick might take time to develop. Trust me this pic is an interception return…
LET’S GO 2015!

I LIKED most of the picks as far as they went. With the last pick I would have gone for the best O-Lineman available. Here’s hoping Lippett has a long and productive career as a Dolphin.
^ first
PIGGY; Since Miami only drafted ONE O-Lineman, we have nothing to bet on. –Maybe that’s for the best.
We OD there are tons of cuts and trades coming we should get another OL still and there is also UDFA
Rumors are flying that we’re going to paint the turf aqua to make Ajayi feel more at home.
It will be like playing in the ocean
hopefully Brady drowns
I fucking hate their blue field and that color blue is my favorite cokor
YOU MEAN BLUE, Right, Mike?? Boise State’s field is Blue. Don’t think the NFL will allow that, though.
Yeah OD
Nothing to bet
I bet my bacon doesn’t get crispy at the next fest
(Piggy puts a bucket of sunscreen in his head)
I think I got to stop posting today from this phone its pissing me off lol
Is this thing on?
Bennett just went to jax
OD,
I know Boise St is Blue, but we’d have to paint it Dolphins Aqua
Good enough for me and our Bobby McCain.
LOL
Tim
Thanks for the draft info on the other page. I got to see the 1st RD, and then I missed everything else.
We ruled the 5th round. LOL
????
So Bobby McCain is Grimes 2.0?
I thought Senquez Golson was Grimes 2.0
He was
I see no instincts there. LOL
The song is cool but the lyrics are nonsense.
Me and Bobby McCain down by the boardwalk…
What are you doing down there? LOL
awful considerate of Hickey to finish up early this year so I can grab a shower and get to the Derby party. i’m very happy with our haul of draft talent. Our coaches have a lot to work with to fix last year’s problems. These new guys should get us into the playoffs. Then we see what we need to get to the Super Bowl and next year we get that. We are needing fewer and fewer desperation picks and can focus more and more on BPA / SuperStars. Next year maybe we trade up and go get that top 5 super stud MLB.
Go Carpe Diem or Dortmund so i can make me some money tonight!!!
Thank you to miami for getting the draft over with two rounds early for me so I can go on about my life
No THANK YOU for reverting to your proper avatar.
I was thinking the same about finishing up early
Now I can enjoy the rest of my Saturday
Beer is awaiting
Gonna watch the fight at my buddy’s place for a party weeeeeeeeeeee
Had to get this blog out quick
Hey guys. Kahn here. Or…Hahn…or….Darn it!
LOL
I see
Ifo had 2 late knee surgeries
What a shame
But at least he had that fat insurance $$$
What’s Derron Smith’s deal? Why isn’t he on a team yet?
He wants to sing……
Is he any good?
So I’ve had some time absorb and contemplate this draft:
1. Context = last year we were 5-4 with Albert at LT with two excruciating losses (GB and Det.)
2. I think those 9 games are the baseline our front office is working from. When Albert went down, I vividly remember many on the blog stating something along the lines of “there goes the season”….
3. This draft addressed what we needed to do better on both sides of the ball in the GB and Det games (would have put us at 7-2… even with a 3-4 finish we’d have been 10-6).
So, while WE may have been thinking of the last 7 games when looking at the draft and FA, it seems the F.O. is focusing on how close we were to being great before Albert went down.
Thus the moves…
-Suh and Phillips since the old DL broke down (why go back to it when it didn’t work)
-INTENSE competition at CB (we got something like 10 guys now competing for those spots lol)
-Wheeler WON’T be covering anybody on the last play OR blaming the coaches
-WR group that RARELY drops passes and Ajayi to convert the 3rd downs.
I’m not saying that everything is perfect… but it this makes our draft of FA “fit”
We’re a better team, I just hope the O-line isn’t our achilles heel. That’s my biggest fear.
Fuck
Nick OLeary to the bills
Who cares? He sucks!
LT Albert/James/Linkenbach
LG Thomas/Douglas/McClendon
C Pouncey/Walton/Brenner (also backup guards)
RG Turner/Asper/McClendon
RT James/Fox/Linkenbach
I feel Linkenbach is our new Garner. He has played every position on the OL in his career.
A few more UDFAs and maybe a last minute vet should fill out the TC roster.
What if Albert isn’t ready?
What if he is? 🙂
Signs point to yes. If he’s not we still will have a better OL than last year by virtue of Pouncey moving back to Center..and that doesn’t consider that Thomas, Turner, and Douglas likely represent a great shot at being better than Thomas (of 2014) and Colledge.
I bet we still add a vet tbh, but I don’t think it’s all that dire either. I get your fear (that the OL is our achilles heal) and it’s a rational one. I just think signs point to yes. 🙂
UDFA starts immediately after draft ends?
Man those kids are never getting laid
Cruel..
Oh I’m sorry those were your kids… I see where they get it now lol. Jk I’m just being an ass doggie. Didn’t mean to piss in your waterdish.
I forgot the Lol. After cruel.
What analysts said Ajayi lacked instincts ? Foolish !!
Agreed. Silly.
I’m not silly… LOL
I think if Thomas finally gets to stay at LG you guys change your tone about him. That’s his ideal spot and I have been saying this since they drafted him. Turner could easily be our RG, either one could be backed up or supplanted by Douglas. We will see but I feel OK about our OL. Not great but OK
Stop making sense !!!
I think so too. I am tired of the discussion so I haven’t defended him in awhile, but I think he was a lot better this year even with being forced out to tackle, and he’s not nearly as inept as say…Jonathan Martin was.
D..
AssDoggie is probably the last nickname I would have guessed you went by… LOL!!!!
Lol
The Christmas ham just got drafted
Thomas, Turner and Douglas fighting for starting spots at OG is a good thing
Let’s hope Albert is healthy
Mike E, James goes to LT and Fox to RT if Albert isn’t ready. But it seems like he’ll be ready sooner than later.
Our worries about the OL are too 2014 oriented. We were coming off of the 2013 Martin/Incognito/Jerry nonsense. We also dealt with multiple injuries in 2014 and we used basically 9-10 OL during the season. I think 2015 we have a better idea of what to do with Hickey, Lazor and Benton all in their 2nd seasons.
Again:
LT Albert/James/Linkenbach
LG Thomas/Douglas/McClendon
C Pouncey/Walton/Brenner (also backup guards)
RG Turner/Asper/McClendon
RT James/Fox/Linkenbach
I feel Linkenbach is our new Garner. He has played every position on the OL in his career.
thomas as a starter scares the hell out of me. Maybe LG is his position which what everyone thought he should play but the coaches didn’t put him there.
I bet we’re not done with bringing in more vet guards.
If you look at what happened last year on the OL, Thomas not playing at all as a rookie due to shoulder surgery but in his 2nd year he served as a guard for 2-3 games and a RT for like 6-7. He got thrown into the mix in his 2nd season at multiple positions out of necessity.
We have no idea what he’ll be as a LG in his 3rd season. Especially under Benton.
Has Hickey been drafted yet?
I would like to bring him in as UDFA.
Holliman still on the board too
Ifo, Holliman, Anthony Harris
Some DBs not doing so well today
I thought Ajayi was injured now, I didn’t realize it was from 2011. He’s been great since then, so even if we only get 4 or 5 yrs out of him we got a steal. This is one of the gambles I was talking about with having 4 picks in the 5th, no way did I want to trade any of them to move up.
We really got some good depth in this draft, a possible WR starter (don’t really care if he starts or not, as he’s going to get plenty of chances to shine 50 catches seems about right), an Olineman that’s going to start at some point in the next yr or 2 (and he can play tackle, if Alberts isn’t ready), an RB that will be in the rotation with Miller 1A and 1B, much needed depth at DB (Grimes getting up there and FAs cost too much).
I thought we were paper thin going into the draft, but now I’d say with all the acquisitions in FA and the draft picks I think we’re pretty balanced top to bottom. I don’t care about LB too much, because all 3 aren’t 3 down players and we have enough depth to man the position (no big stars, but guys that can get the job done).
Parker and Ajayi or Gurley? Either way works for me, the NFL of today says you take the WR and not the RB in the 1st.
Why is he on the trade blocks? Boykins is supposed to be available too.
Bc Chip Kelly is crazy
He’s an aging guard, Chip you’re asking for too much. LOL
Tim, not so fast with Fox at RT, if Alberts isn’t ready. We have lots of other options, Turner played well at RT last yr at the end, Douglas can also plat tackle. We’ll just have to see how things play out in camp.
Did anyone mention we had 100% attendance for the voluntary offseason program 😛
All that is possible for this extremely void of OL talent ridden team. LOL
I think we kind of want to work guys at specific positions this year and secure the top 5 and go from there.
Day 3 was fun
But day 1 gave is this
http://youtu.be/zLa4Rip6Vrg
Jay Ajayi
Good stuff except for the liberal use of the word nigga in the song. We’ll still dealing with that dilemma. 😦
This is the last pick I think Collins has any shot at. Saints will know the mist about that situation
And done
I’d invite Nick Marshall as an UDFA or Devin Gardner either one
Parker was the first WR I looked into back in Jan and Feb and came away thinking White and Cooper were better. My main issue with him was he did a lot of one foot in stuff which is the college rule. Maybe I shouldn’t have knocked him for that because that was the game he played. But the kid makes plays – he has elite skills. I’m excited!
Did you look where the ball was thrown to him on those plays. I saw call placement that only allowed for one foot. I also saw him on crossing routes and jump balls fight like anquan boldin he remind me a little of a cross between aj green an boldin exactly what we need for red zone production but speed for between the 20’s
Ball not call placement lol
I always take the college game into account. Projection to the NFL is a different beast.
Browns really smart this time. Got Ifo.
Info got drafted finally….
I would be all over the phone trying to sign Collins as an undrafted free agent. Nothing to lose.
Have to let the police investigation play out.
Just a quick drive by to say Day 3 was a lot better than day 2. Days 1 and 3 well done. WTF was day 2?
dont know if anyone posted this. but got to love the mamma talking trash. i wont be surprised if goodell now fines the fins and gives all their draft pics to the pats
http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/devante-parker%E2%80%99s-mother-rips-browns-didn%E2%80%99t-want-son-going-there/ar-BBj2TiX
I guess the FO is pretty high on our LBs after all. We are going to see a lot of Tripp and McClain this year it would seem
Alright it was a quick drive by. I will be back later but not a bad day. Ajai is a freaking steal in round 5.
So how do you guys feel about Jordan Phillips? I like him. I think working behind Suh and Mitchell will motivate him. The guy has sick size and athletic ability. There are not many guys on the planet who are 6-5 330 who run 5.17 40s, lift 28 reps with big arms at almost 35″.
I don’t mind a classic boom or bust in the 2nd round. I heard him on a radio interview. Smart guy and doesn’t come off as lazy to me. His back issue might have played a role in that.
I’m a little nervous about the back Tim. He had surgery a few years ago, and that’s not good for someone his size. I read the phrase ‘chronic back problem”, which kind of scares me.
We’ll see. Odrick had the same rep with a piece of metal in his leg, went down his rookie year in game one, then played every game for 4 more seasons.
NFL teams take care of their investments.
I get that, but I followed Odrick in college- he didn’t have the injury rep. A back injury is MUCH different from a leg injury.
I’m looking forward to the competition in the secondary and on the OL. I think other positions are strong with quality competition.
We now have 23 defensive backs on the roster.
You serious, Clark?
Hyperbole!
Mike Hull & Zach Vigil sign as UDFA. That is amazing quality
Holy shit, Jeff Luc from Cinci also
I would bring in Hull in a heartbeat.
Just re read the “sign” part! That’s a great signing for us.
Congrats to ifo
Too bad it’s Cleveland
@flasportsbuzz: Maine WR Damarr Aultman announces on Twitter that he has signed with Dolphins…. Shane McDermott joining Cowboys, for those who missed that
*
This kid looked like Greg Jennings on the field….very explosive, but making a huge jump.
Taking care of LB needs in FA it looks like.
They landed some 2 of my favorites!
Yeah man, mofo’s gonna play with NDominant F’n Suh.
Herd should be happy
@NEPD_Loyko: Neville Hewitt LB Marshall to #Dolphins per media reports.. Literally all the LB to Miami
Hickey looks like he nailed 2 in a row.
We signed Vigil and Hull? That’s cool. I like Hull.
Demarr Aultman might beat both Mathews and Hazle for a roster spot
Now offer La’el Collins a contract. F the public, just get him in here.
The Nate Boyer story is really cool. He’s a Green Baret who went to Texas and taught himself how to long snap. He finished at 34 yrs old and then got drafted by Seattle. All while working on his Masters.
Hazel’s phucked, big uphill battle for him now.
Being a cronie dipshit is going to cost him.
Yup, you have to come right to play here now.
Look at these stats of the LBs we added. Also note that Luc can play FB also
@flasportsbuzz: Hewitt:123 tackles, 4.5 sacks; Cincy ILB Luc: 133 tackles, 6.5 sacks… Penn State OLB Hull: 140 tackles. Utah State ILB Vigil:154, 9 sacks
Wow, that’s a lot of production
Hickeys done one hell of a job the last 2yrs. He’s drafted well and killed it in UDFA
He just made it very difficult to earn a spot on our Defense.
Not to be a downer, but too early to judge. Let’s see how these guys perform for us. I still maintain, our OL is very questionable. I’m far from convinced we’re OK there.
Totally agreed. I’ve seen enough to know that right now, I’m extremely impressed.
WI’ve had this weird feeling since the draft started that Hull was going to end up a fin. Crazy.
Mike, there’s tons of competition for O-line spots. I’m not worried. All of the skill positions have been improved and we’re going into year 2 of this O. I like it, I like it all.
Tons of competition with what caliber player though? Unless Dallas Thomas has significantly improved, I don’t want to see that. Billy Turner has potential, maybe he’s there, I hope so. The depth and competition we have at the other G spot really concerns me. If Albert isn’t ready, we’re fucked!
Meh, I fart in your general direction.
It’s gonna be fine
I really don’t think that’s true. But whatever. Only time will prove that out, and I have a feeling Alberts going to be just fine come week 1. They simply couldn’t get the talent you want in the draft unless they drafted Collins, which, be real now, NOBODY touched the guy. Nobody.
OK, we’ll see. Maybe we have different definitions of what “fine” is.
Mike Liedtke@Liedtke59
Excited to be a @MiamiDolphins Now it’s time to work #FinsUp
Tyler Varga to the COLTS??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! lol
Titans got my guy prewitt
Of course we do Mike
Yours is a worried fine
Mines an arms folded across the chest confident fine
I think he did a great job upgrading a lot of spots this season, but not gonna lie, I think he dropped the ball on the o-line. Of course, and I mean this, i hope I’m wrong.
You know Mike, for a guy who defended Jon Martin more than even his Attorney mother did, you sure are harsh and negative on Thomas and Turner. Thomas hasn’t been half as disappointing as Martin was.
That’s true. Can’t argue that.
The Nate Boyer story and the Ali Marpet moment were two of my favorite draft moments this year Son.
Good pick by Tampa. I agree those are guys who should be the real role models. Both are impressive individuals.
BBL
Loving the UDFAs so far.
Yeah man
Collins not getting a contract offer until he’s no longer being questioned in a murder. Bookmark this post.
I’m not sure how clear the NFL owners (Owner signoff would be mandatory for that transaction per Polian) can be on that issue.
I know they denied Collins for the Supplemental Draft, but I bet they change their mind, and let him in.
Everyone is pissed at Dallas Thomas and thinks he sucks, but that may be, because he’s playing tackle. He was not good at Tenn. playing tackle, not sure why we keep trying to make him a tackle. He was really good at Tenn. playing guard however.
It;s funny how we said O’Leary is like Clay and then Buff goes and takes him.
Sleeper Athletes @SleeperAthletes 27m27 minutes ago
Congrats to #OrangePark HS (FL) & #UCF alum LB Terrance Plummer (@KnightBred_41) for signing with the @Redskins
Best of Luck Terrance
Devin Gardner went to the patsies
I really like the wau Ced limits yac, he doesn’t wait for the guy with the ball to get to him, he goes forward treating yards like they mean something and he wraps up instead of just trying to jack-up the ball carrier.
The Packers, along with drafting Hundley, also got Blake Sims as a FA.
I bet Trypod is shitfaced on Mint Julips by now, probably wearing one of those fancy hats that he stole from his aunt or something
Christian Jones to us. He was a pretty decent receiver and return man for Alabama
I would have like Devin Gardner or nick Marshall as UDFA
A lot of these guys may sign contracts elsewhere we won’t know the guys we have totally until ink hits paper. Same for these other guys who are signing elsewhere. I remember one guy I thought we had right after draft one year then was rumored to another team and then by time it was done he actually signed with a completely different team
I can’t drink mint juleps, something about mint in a drink I can’t justify- like mojitos. However, you are correct- I have had a bit to drink, I have a bit of a headache, and my wife is probably mad at me, so I must have had fun. I did win the pickem pot, so that wasn’t bad.
So tell me- did we do the right thing this draft? And what time is the fight?
Fight starts after 8:00 PM PDT
Should be getting close to fight time.
I think we did well today, it appears we got a lot of value with our picks, filled holes and added quality players. Ajayi might be the steal of the draft. Dudes fired up to get here.
Excellent! The udfa field seems to be respected here as well?
UDFAs

We’re gonna have 15 WR in camp
If Collins turns out guilty, there is no conversation. If he turns out innocent, I believe he has some grounds for a lawsuit about being denied due process. So his lawyers will use that leverage to get him back into the league somehow.
The Dolphins can offer this blog records as evidence that we wanted La’el first and most so we should have dibs.
Albert Douglas Pouncey Turner James
Could be tough and nasty
I like that lineup. Douglas and Pouncey are also agile and can pull and pop ppl 5-6 yds out.
No matter who plays they’ll practice against Suh and should be pretty pissed off.
A 4th round rookie and turner who hasn’t played a snap at guard at pros. I think I’m a little worried. We can’t be done with the o-line.
Trypod I had 3 mint juleps as the girls i was with thought theirs was too nasty after one sip.
They are nasty, but I took one for the team. or 3 actually. The Jack and coke warm-ups helped.
thank god Dortmund hung on to finish third so i did not lose ALL my money.

Don’t underestimate Jones!!!!!!!!!!!
I already mentioned it earlier. He’s better than his stats because almost all throws went to cooper
I watched the Finsiders interview with Dion Sims and that guy looks like he’s in great shape. I still remember the block he made against the Jets, Calvin Pace was on his way to destroying Tannehill and Dion rushed to pick him up and absolutely stonewalled Pace from a tough angle. That’s all I needed to know about Sims as a football player.
Yeah he’s a big dude and he’s strong and can block but he’s also athletic and can catch and make plays. He knows his role will expand this year with the departure of Clay and has spent the offseason focused on preparing for that. He also respects Cameron’s game and recognized he’s also a great athlete and former basketball player.
Sleeper = Dion Sims
Look at our roster and not just the draft. Look at the youth that are expected to make an impact this year. I feel like this team still has 4 drafts in the making mixed with some seasoned vets. It starts with Tannehill in 2012. We’re still feeding off of 3 drafts and we just added one.
The addition of Suh changed our direction. This team wants to win now.
The fight was predictable but disappointing. I thought Manny was going to go into overdrive at some point(especially after round 5) but he could never get past Mayweather’s defense. Mayweather has earned his spot as the best. The guy is dominant.
If you read the very bottom paragraphs, it gives some interesting stats on pick counts per conferences and schools.

Not all conferences, and not all schools- just the important ones! lol
