Wow, check out the analytics program. Ajayi is combine TOP PERFORMER in the Vert, the Broad Jump and both the 20 and 60 yard shuttles.

Ajayi = Highly productive career, including a record-breaking junior season in 2014, becoming the first player in FBS history to rush for 1,800-plus yards and collect 500-plus receiving yards.

Nice pick! Some medical knee concerns but as a 5th rd pick he’s a steal. He looks like Marshawn Lynch to me.

  19. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    That is a head scratcher!

But hey they must think he has better upside than the rest on the board!

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ced Thomas didn’t compete at the combine, but check this out, he’d have been a combine TOP performer (based on his pro day results) in the Vert, Broad, the Short Shuttle and 3-cone!

    Cedric Thompson Minnesota

    Pro Day Results

    Vertical jump: 40 1/2 inches
Broad jump: 10 feet, 2 inches
    Short shuttle: 4.28 seconds
    3-cone: 6.96 seconds

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Impressive numbers. I know little about him, so I’m gonna reserve judgement. He’s my least fav of the 3 picks so far in the round, but he’s got measurables for sure.

    • D's avatar D says:

That’s respectable numbers. I wiukda loved prewitt but such is life lol.

  27. D's avatar D says:

Ajayi I’m not loving. Multiple time they have said he may not even make it through his rookie contract

  28. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Hey Tim, Ajayi is a much better receiver than Lynch

  29. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Ajayi is a bona fide steal. That is the definition of “steal” right there.

  30. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

  32. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  33. D's avatar D says:

    Harrison gone

  34. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Cedric the Safety:
He has terrific athleticism to open his hips and run with backs and tight ends, covering a lot of ground vs. both the run and the pass. Thompson has adequate route recognition in the deep half of the field, but tends to be more reactive than proactive with marginal instincts and ballskills, taking too many late and false steps. He has adequate length to get physical with bigger targets, although he needs to do the same with smaller receivers before they can put the moves on him. Thompson strings out plays and closes the gap on the perimeter, leading with his face and driving his hips on tackle attempts, which should serve him well on special teams.

  35. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

CBS: “Ajayi is a big, strong back with great hands and great burst, and he excels in pass protection.”

  44. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

CBS sports JUST flashed Lippett, then it went away, as phins pick (?)

  45. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

D, you’re applying 2nd round logic to a 5th round pick. Ajayi was right up there with the most carries in the nation last year, and one of the most productive backs in the nation. Missed no plays, no games, and no practices. The injury happened in 2011 and he hasn’t missed a beat. If they think his knee is degenerative than that’s why he dropped to the 5th. He’s WELL worth a 5th. If you get 2 years of decent production out of him at this point you’ve won big time.

    • D's avatar D says:

Probably right. I’ll admit I want all picks to pan out and be with us. I hate to see players we draft leave and having the idea he will be gone in just a few years just sucks. But treating it as a commodity its good value

  46. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    That’s my Boy there!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Too bad

    No LB and no TE

  48. Phindog's avatar phindog says:

    Lippett..

  49. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

wow, I guess they have their board and they are gonna BPA it the entire day

  50. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

another WR … not named Waller … I think Lippett is a waste of a pick insofar as he has so little chance to make the team and his size is a clone of our round 1 pick so what is the point?

  51. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Did you guys see CB Bobby McCain’s 20 YD shuttle? 3.82!!! That’s outrageous!

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

We have like 7 combine bests with our first 2 picks of the round, and the Safety didn’t go to the combine, but he’d have had 4 more with his proday numbers!

  52. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

    Mike,

He’s not currently injured. (that I know of) The concern stems from a major injury in 2011, and he proved last season that he recovered well enough to be one of the most productive RBs in the country. I don’t know where missing time is a concern, I think it’s more like Abdul Jabar..where long term degeneration is the concern.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Gil Brandt said he got hurt by his medical report, that he has an issue with his knee, and then Pat Kirwan said, “If the Dolphins can’t shelve him for a few months, he could turn out to be a great pick for the Dolphins, that he may have to miss some of the season. That’s why he’s available in the 5th, and not taken in the 2nd or 3rd.

  53. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Well there is always a chance Varga goes UDFA? 😦

I know Tim is heartbroken! 😉

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Wow I like Lippett, just saw a thing on him the other day. I didn’t see another WR coming but hey I didn’t see a lot coming in this draft with a lot of teams. Another possession jump ball and red zone guy. See a theme here?

  55. New Age's avatar New Age says:

The 5th round feels like the 1st did. A complete win even if we pull a Jordan Phillips at the end. 😉

  56. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Lippett had 85% of his catches (55-of-65) in 2014 producing either a touchdown or first down …
    WOW

  57. rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

OK, time to start looking at the 2016 draft. lol.

  58. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Reading up on Lippett… started 5 games at CB and two more games at CB the next year. While he is ‘versatile’ he certainly makes up for it in slowness and softness. LOL

  59. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Totally forgot
Lippet is projected as a DB

3 DBs in the 5th and a RB

    Crazy

  60. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Lippett =
Good height and length for the position with large, soft hands…plucks and uses his full extension to expand his catching radius, utilizing every inch of his frame to attack the ball…tracks very well with an excellent feel on back shoulder throws…makes natural adjustments on the ball, staying focused in contested situations to finish…terrific blend of patience and aggressiveness in his routes, using his field awareness to find vulnerable spots in zones…catches the ball well in stride without losing momentum…strong plant foot out of his breaks and works well along the sideline.

  61. New Age's avatar New Age says:

As Tim has mentioned several times, the brass didn’t really like the LB group in this draft. And after the past couple years, they know what average looks like.

  62. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

just curious… how are we going to camp with only 6 LBs on the roster??

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

New Age… thanks for LB comment cuz I was just wondering that….

No need to take “average” I guess …. We may be hoping for camp cuts or even a TRADE …

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We have 7 and in a 4-3 you only start 3 and 2 in nickel much of the time. I guess we’ll add 2-3 as UDFAs to compete in camp. Maybe a June cut guy as well.

  63. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

BURN IT DOWN!!! BURN IT ALL DOWN. FIRE THEM ALL!!

    HOW DARE THEY!!????

    FUCK THIS TEAM. I’M DONE.

  64. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I stand corrected on Lipppettt. He has a great write-up on CBS. Hickey does do some awesome homework. This guy is a perfect new millennium West Coast offense type WR.

  65. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    I liked that!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets get 5 picks in the 4th next year! 🙂

  66. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

“Lippett is very Physical after the catch with a strong stiff-arm…experienced on defense with nine career pass break-ups at cornerback (seven starts)…impressive toughness, both physical and mental, and considered a 110-percenter by the MSU coaching staff”

  67. olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

WELL, PIGGY, MIAMI DID NOT draft 2 O-Linemen in this draft, so you and I have nothing to bet on. –Let me go ON THE RECORD as saying we do NOT, as of now, have a better Offensive Line than we had at the end of last season. –And that O-Line SUCKED!!
    ————
The return from injury by Brandon Albert gives us hope that Miami’s O-Line might be nearly as good as it was at the start of last season. But Albert is NOT YET READY to play football. –Whether or not he’ll return to his old dominating self is a question we don’t yet have an answer for. –Perhaps Hickey can work some magic with guys who were not drafted or guys cut by other teams during the summer. I sure hope he can do this.
    ———–
Anyone else bothered by the fact NO linebackers were taken by the Dolphins?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Nope on your last sentence. It was a mediocre class.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Alberts return most certainly means our OL is better than last years’ he missed the entire 2nd half of the season. Unless Thomas and Turner actually got WORSE, and Pouncey is actually WORSE at center than he was at guard, it’s impossible to conclude the OL is not better than last years finishing group.

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

IMPOSSIBLE?? I hope you are right. It IS POSSIBLE Albert will return and play AT A LOWER LEVEL then he played last year. It’s also possible he WON’T BE READY FOR WEEK #1. NOT sold on either Thomas or Turner YET. SO-O-O we’re left with Pouncey, James and a bunch of question marks.

  68. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

So, i’ve been out who did we pick?

  69. Phindog's avatar phindog says:

So when Mr. Lippett scores they can blast out over the PA system. FHRRAAUMM !!!

  70. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

No Tyler Fucking Varga huh? pfft dumb asses

  71. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio had this to say about his versatile pass-catcher. “I heard one scout say [Lippett] has hawk awareness. He can pick the ball up at the blink of an eye and determine where it’s going and pick it. I really think today opened a lot of people’s eyes.”

  72. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

    Mike,
I don’t know Pat’s rational but Gil didn’t say anything about when the injury was. Google him. I’m pretty sure he’s not currently injured beyond the degenerative concerns about his knee stemming form the 2011 injury. He started every single game this year, so if he’s injured are you thinking it happened after the season? I think this is just classic 5th round stuff where Pat is referring to notes and probably doesn’t realize the injury concern is based on an old injury.

““It definitely caught me by surprise,” Ajayi said Tuesday, referring to a flurry of reports about the knee leading up to the draft. “At the same time, I knew I had an injury in 2011 and I knew that it would probably be something teams would look at just because it’s something, if you have an injury, at the (NFL Scouting Combine) you have to get it checked out. I knew it was a possibility that a team would ask me about my knee. I was just surprised at how big it really got.

“I can’t control that and I can’t control what teams think. I can only control what I can do. I know how my knee feels. I know it feels healthy.”

Ajayi finished second in the nation in 2014 with 2,358 yards from scrimmage, first with 397 touches and tied for first with 32 touchdowns. He was the first player in FBS history with at least 1,800 rushing yards and at least 500 receiving yards in a season.

He also carried a heavy workload in 2013.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I will volunteer I love and respect both those guys, but I have nothing to do but to google Fins picks and they have to offer “analysis” for every teams pick and we’re 160 deep into the draft.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      Wow! Steal right here.

  73. D's avatar D says:

Maybe they aren’t overly confidant in Davis or Taylor 2 cbs

  74. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

I must say… I enjoyed this draft more than most recent years. If anything… four picks so close to each other was FUN. 🙂 Once camp starts, they may THEN decide if OL is indeed a need and start looking for a possible trade…. Maybe Matt Moore is gonna be “trade bait” to a QB hungry team like Texans… for a solid veteran guard or linebacker…..

    • D's avatar D says:

I liked it too. Players this year were all more average than standouts so makes sense to reflect that with where the majority of you picks lay

  75. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzz
And Dolphins announce Lippett will be DB for them, not WR>

  76. Randy's avatar Randy says:

They could use Ajayi as a third down back in spot duty to keep the wear and tear low in his first year.

  77. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley
Schefter saying Ajayi flunked some teams’ physicals. He might only be a one-contract player, but that would be OK for a fifth-round pick.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Stokes on Ajayi’s knee: “Not an issue for us.”

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

      Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley
Stokes calls Ajayi being there in fifth “an unexpected” surprise.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Led the country in carries this season, so longevity might be an issue, but he can clearly currently play at a high level.

      • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

with Boise ST schedule maybe 1/3 of his carries were touchdowns where the defense didn’t even touch him. 🙂 jk

    • D's avatar D says:

Again what Hahn said was right, for it being a 5th I’m not going to lose sleep over it I just love our picks and hope for all to have long careers with it so I justcgate thinking I’ll only be able to enjoy them for a small time. It was personal and this is business an it was a smart business move

  78. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Ajayi’s injury was 2011 !!!! He was killer the last two years. If he is so freaking brittle, how did he have over 2,300 all purpose yard ?!?! 5th round pick for that kind of production all damn day, baby.

  79. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Is it okay to like this draft or will that be viewed as just being a homer? I just want to know what I’m getting myself into. LOL

  80. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 4m 4 minutes ago
“He’s going to be great for Ryan [Tannehill] and our offense as a whole,” Eric Stokes said of Jay Ajayi.

  81. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Wyoming,
Yep, and he can catch the ball. Possible high reward on a low risk pick in the 5th. The rest of the picks in that round look like special teamers…and they took a flier on Ajayi.

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If it’s just a matter of a short, but very productive career (4-5 years), I’ll sign up for that ASAP! He’s a very talented RB

  83. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley
Hickey: “We do like our linebackers. … We stuck to our board and took the best player available.”

  84. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay so Lippett is a corner. Interesting. I think I mixed him up with a WR I saw on NFLN with Mariccui and Irvin doing WR drills. It wasn’t him. Someone mentioned Lippett the other day and I asked if he was the son of Ronnie Lippett. Yeah that’s the ticket. LOL

So we added 3 DBs out of 4 in the 5th. Go Piggy!!! LOL

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Sources Tell Us “Of all the backs in this draft, Ajayi might be my favorite because he can do everything you want from a back and you don’t have to find a complementary back to pick up the slack for him in any one area.” — AFC scout in charge of grading running backs “I like every single thing about him except that he doesn’t show the instincts you are looking for. If you don’t have instincts you will always be limited.” – NFC running back coach

  86. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

NFL Media’s Mike Mayock said several teams told him they took Ajayi off their board due to the knee, which was characterized as bone rubbing on bone.

“One team will say, ‘He’s off the board because he’s bone on bone,'” Mayock said. “Other teams say, ‘That’s fine. We’ll get one contract out of him.’ “

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

The Dolphins have been looking for someone to take some of the work off Miller’s shoulders. Expect Ajayi to earn that role quickly as a rookie.

Even if the running back’s knee doesn’t allow him to get to a second contract, in the fifth round Miami nabbed a player with the talent to compete and contribute at the pro level from Day 1.

  87. D's avatar D says:

Wtf is up with Michael Bennett dropping so far

  88. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Randy

If you’re still around, what do you say about Cedric Thompson?

  89. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Stokes is just doing the typical positive spin on picks. The Dolphins DID pass on Ajayi many times…just like every team. Even just in the 5th….he was their third choice. They were obviously concerned like every other team. If he pans out great…if he doesn’t…it was a 5th round pick. Acceptable risk for what you MIGHT get.

  92. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I just rationalized my way through the OL. I think it’s lightyears better already than it was at the end of last season. How?

    LT: Albert>James
LG: Douglas or Turner or Thomas the winner is def at least = Colledge
    C: Pouncey much > Satele
RG: Turner/Fox/Douglas/Thomas winner is likely at least = Pouncey (as a guard)
    RT: James much > Thomas.

We’re vastly improved at 3 positions, and likely at least equal, but possibly improved in the other two positions. Benton 2nd year with many of these guys> Benton 1st year with many of these guys.

  93. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

i think with their next pick the fins should select melissa stark

  94. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,
I can’t say I’m a big fan of Thompson. I can’t see him being a big contributor. But, our safety situation is so shallow. Because of that…he might make the roster…you never know. As athletic as he is, he’s a little slow on the uptake. He doesn’t seem to recognize what’s going on very well.

  95. D's avatar D says:

Jahn I also replied to you above and then summarized again in a reply to someone else later though I did call you Hahn.

I find it hard to believe that a RB with no instincts can be so productive. LOL

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Yeah, I found that comment to be silly. The other scouting reports I saw and his production say the exact opposite.
