According to Chris Habib of the Palm Beach Post, Devante Parker is developing chemistry with Ryan Tannehill fast. Woop Woop!
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald highlights some of the positional battles in OTAs. Notably, Jay Ajayi is the front runner to backup Lamar Miller.

The NBA Finals are set. Why mention it in “Dolphins News”? Because Mike Tannenbaum helped make it happen. He was the agent for each team’s head coach (Steve Kerr and David Blatt) when they signed with their respective teams.

Eagles LG Evan Mathis’ agent Drew Rosenhaus said the Dolphins are not a “strong possibility” for the disgruntled guard.
“I’ve been given permission by the Eagles to shop Evans,” Rosenhaus said in a radio interview. “We thought we had a trade with another team leading up to the Draft. It was not the Dolphins.” Coach Chip Kelly has said Mathis has been available to trade for two offseasons, but to this point Rosenhaus has yet to find a partner. Mathis is not happy, but he will likely remain an Eagle for at least one more season.

Only had half a day to site see, but drove to see Mt. McKinley. DAVIE, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins had six games last season when they failed to score at least 20 points and were 1-5 in those games. A major reason was inconsistency in the red zone.
The Dolphins were ranked 21st in the NFL last season in red zone efficiency, which must improve if they want to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Too often Miami settled for field goals last season. The Dolphins scored touchdowns in just 51.5 percent of their red zone trips.
Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor is taking on the challenge this offseason to fix the issue.
“Let’s put it on me,” Lazor said this week during organized team activities. “We’ve put the responsibility on me to evaluate the guys that we have and to use each of them the way they can best be used in the red zone. That’s the promise I’ve made to them.”
Miami’s issues in the red zone were two-fold. The Dolphins’ running game often wasn’t physical enough to gain yards deep in opponents’ territory, and the passing game wasn’t consistent close to the end zone.
The Dolphins made major changes at receiver and tight end this offseason to give Ryan Tannehill bigger targets. New tight end Jordan Cameron (6-foot-5) and first-round pick and wide receiver DeVante Parker (6-3) are long, athletic pass-catchers who should have success in the red zone.
“We worked on it in … on air, we were at a pretty high completion percentage on air, that’s a start,” Lazor explained. “I think that’s my responsibility, and the coaching staff, to evaluate the guys you have and use them how they should be used.”
Bingo and Jennings 5-11 and Stills 6-0 have both had success in the red zone. Not to discount Landry at 5-11 who is a savvy WR with great hands. It’s not all about height, it’s how you attack the ball. They’re all hands catchers, not let it come to the body receivers.

Some fans are not going to be happy to hear that the Dolphins are not interested in Mathis, but I think what it says is that the coaches are happy with the men we have at OG at least for this season.
Or they think Mathis is not an upgrade?
I think Mathis is in decline. The return on the cost to get him is likely a huge factor as well.
I’ve said it since FA and the draft, our staff seems committed to who we have and expect it to get settled with who we have. We finally drafted a pure LG in the 4th in Douglas to add to the competition but many fans thought that wasn’t enough. We’ll see.
Albert has been rehabbing well and has about 2 more months before TC. Getting him back at LT, putting James back at RT and Pouncey back at C is the key. The guard position should not define your season.
Year 2 in Lazor’s offense and establishing a running game will allow Tanny to help out his OL too.

Tim, also it’s about gaining quick separation in limited space. These new receivers we have demonstrated that in the past.
Also, we’ll need better running in the red zone. Pound out the tough yards.
Receivers who fight for the ball which Wallace rarely did though he did make a few very nice contested catches. But he also threw his hands up and gave up similar to Marshall and I hate that shit.
Everytime we score a TD, we should use Suh for the 2pt conversion. Who can stop him from gaining 2 yards? 😉

I think we’re not interested in giving up anything to get Mathis. I think if he were cut, we’d call him. I don’t read any more into it than that. I think he’d be a clear upgrade over what we have now.

Mathis in decline is better than Thomas or Turner. Greg Jennings is in decline too, but he’s still better than most of the receivers on our team.
No doubt he would be an upgrade, but that comes at about $6 mil per year plus whatever they want in trade for him. Plus sounds like he could be a cap cut.

Best move: Signing Ndamukong Suh — This one’s easy. They paid the price to get the game’s most dominant defensive lineman, and they will reap the dividends on a front that already features Cameron Wake. Suh alone can push them toward that playoff-berth breakthrough.
Worst move: Trading for Kenny Stills — It cost them a third-round pick and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe to acquire the former Saints wide receiver. Stills is a speedy outside talent, but in retrospect as the team also added Devante Parker, Greg Jennings and Jordan Cameron to the passing game, it was a superfluous move for a target who doesn’t mesh with Ryan Tannehill’s lack of arm strength.
That’s news to me that RT has a lack of arm strength. Because he isn’t good on the long ball it means he has a weak arm.

university of florida girls softball team is playing auburn at 1pm. If they win they are in championship of college world series for womans softball and going for back to back championships. One of my friends that lived down the street from me when I was growing up went to Auburn. We could be playing Michigan for the championship in a best of 3. I wonder who Mr.Ross who will be routing for considering he graduated from University of Michigan and he flunked out of University of Florida.

my daughter graduated from uf about 14-15 yrs ago. She played volleyball and soccer in HS but in college she concentrated on graduating. She graduated in 3 yrs with degree in pharmacy. My son is a different story he was a party animal and I don’t think he would have ever left college if I continued paying for his education. He took 5.5 years to finish with a degree in business.
So what’s the fascination with college softball? Do you have a thingy for Bull Dikes?

I can see why Mike talks about his softball team, OD talks about lots of off the wall stuff, so I’ll just chalk it up to one of the oddities of this board, but was just curious as to the fascination.
it’s a sport that is amazing. The fast pitching is amazingly fast and hitting these pitching is even more amazing. Most of the woman softball players hold the bat differently to gain leverage of the bat because of the speed of the pitching fastballs. The gators have a player who won 30 games this year and she broke the record for home runs. They are comparing her to B.Ruth

GRADE: A Parker is a complete nightmare for cornerbacks when the ball is in the air. From the outset he ought to be Ryan Tannehill’s go-to weapon in the red zone.

Didn’t everyone see North Dallas Forty back in the late ’70s? The movie made it known that pain killers were used frivolously and that the players knew what they were doing. Phillips was pretty candid about not doing enough in college to impress scouts as a 1st rd pick because of work ethic issues. He basically said he has to work to change that. If he does we’ll be the beneficiaries because at 6-5 330 he’s a powerful, athletic guy who can move and be disruptive.
I’m pleased by Phillips, but it has more to do with what others say about him than others do. When beat reporters who have covered the NFL for decades say “you can’t understand how huge and fit he is till you stand next to him”…….you get the idea.
There’s no question he’s very talented, but you can’t make it in the NFL on talent alone. If he had lived up to his potential at OU he’d have been in the discussion when the jets picked at #6.
I think at least in the early stages it won’t be an issue, because he won’t play enough snaps to have to worry about taking plays off, so when he’s actually playing we should get his best.
I also think the coaches at OU let him get away with it, but now that it’s common knowledge that he’s been a slacker, I doubt the Fins coaches let him get away with it.
I don’t think Suh will let him get away with it. A DT who plays 80% of the snaps……dude has some combination of motor and desire.

That’s good for us since Miller doesn’t exactly break tackles.
Not many backs get yards as quickly as Miller though. He’s a very explosive and decisive runner, doesn’t dance, gets it and goes. Miller, Ajayi and Williams is a nice RB group. All have good size and speed and can catch the ball well.
They are one of the reasons I feel we’ll take the next step this year.
Interesting career move: Former Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman took a job as a high school coach at Nauset Regional in Massachusetts. Good for him.

Because of the way we spread the field, we open up the opportunities for our backs to catch those swing passes with a head of steam. We did it a lot last year and I could see that increasing with the 3 headed monster at tailback.
Not to count out Gillislee but he’s gonna have to have a great camp to work his way into the lineup. I’m not sure James with make it.
Can Gillislee run back kicks? He seemed fast in college, and he is big enough to take some punishment, and I thought he had good enough hands and “make ’em miss” feet. I would really like to take some of the minutes and hits off Landry.
I think he worked at it in camp as a rookie but never did it in a game. He only has 3 rushes for 6 yards all as a rookie as he missed the entire year last year with a bad hamstring issue. We haven’t really seen enough of him and not at all in this offense and ZBS.

The Miami Dolphins chose Gillislee in the fifth round, 164th pick overall, of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He ran a 4.48 40 at the combine. He’s 5’11 216, still only 24 yrs old.
Do think folks count out Gillislee too much. RBs have a way of bursting on the scene, and he’s been injured.

Always other options
Manziel will go down as one of the biggest first round busts ever. Well almost as much as Dion Jordan.
Gillislee is done imo. Even when healthy he didn’t show as much as Williams did last year.

I honestly don’t see it. Williams looked really good especially as a receiving option and he is a bigger more physical presence in the backfield which is something they wanted to focus on with our redzone issues the last couple of seasons. Gillislee at his best would essentially be Lamar Miller and that’s not what we are looking for.
He was behind Miller and Thomas as a rookie. He really has no NFL body of work to go by and missed all of last season. Let’s see what he brings to the table this TC. I have no idea but he does have talent and was impressive his senior year.
Ken, we could keep 4 RBs easily but only make 3 active on game day. Miller, Ajayi, Williams and Gillislee. Let’s see what he shows, can’t see how anyone would know, we haven’t seen him since his rookie year in very limited action.
Anything could happen of course but I am not banking on it. I see Gillislee as gone. If he really surprises all the better for us but I am not counting on it.
Williams is the same height as Gillislee and only 5 pounds heavier. Their 40 times are identical. I think Gillislee is shiftier and quicker. I like Williams though.
But Williams is more of power runner. He will lower his shoulder on you and fight for extra yardage. Gillislee is more shiftiness and making people miss. Plus Williams looked really good as a receiver out of the backfield last year. He had some big plays in that role.
Nothing wrong with having that kind of back as a backup in our ZBS. That’s why I want to see Gillislee in it. I think it fits his style of running. I’m not looking for him to replace Williams. I’m looking at possibly having 4 good backs.
Lamar Miller is bigger than D Williams. Miller is 5’10 but 224 (shorter AND heavier).
Ajayi is the same weight as Williams, but an inch taller.
So Miller is our biggest back. He is also our fastest.
Despite his size Miller doesn’t really run well in short yardage situations and his biggest drawback is that he really isn’t good at catching the ball out of the backfield.
He was much better last year. After some early drops he got better and finished with 38 catches.
He’s not small, he runs low to the ground and has super quick feet. Not all good backs plow people over. We have Ajayi and Williams competing for that role.

Gillislee scored 10 TDs in 12 games.
Maybe it’s too early to give up on him, that was impressive.

Miller caught more passes last year but I don’t think he was particularly effective out of the backfield and I actually think he got worse in that role as the year went on. Williams was much more effective in that role as was DT.
What Miller did very well in the passing game was that he really improved on blitz pick up and became a much better blocker in that role. His receiving skills are lacking. He is not very good at getting his head around to see the field ahead of him when catching out of the backfield.
Up until last year I agree, I saw marked improvement last season though.

To me he looked better early in the season catching the ball but later in the year he seemed to be his same old self when it came to catching out of the backfield. It’s just what I saw. I really think he made great strides as a runner last year and I think he is the no. 1 back on the team but I just don’t think he will ever be a great weapon out of the backfield. Williams we know can be and Ajayi was a really good receiving back in college.

one QB and 7,586 offensive line men and the offense may work. well that is if they can play 5,236 linemen at the same time.
Miller makes some really nice catches and runs afterwards at the :04 seconds and the :15 seconds marks and also at 1:15, 1:40, 3, and 3:10, 5:50, and 6 minute marks. etc.
Miller also puts his shoulder down and smashes into guys and falls forward at the end of many of his runs.
There’s a lot of good overall stuff from Miller in there.

Naples — he’s got talent in that area. WIlliams does too, but not thinking Miller does. Yeah he caught some more last year, but it just doesn’t come natural to him. He needs someone else as a compliment. What I don’t know is how Ajayi is on far as catching passes goes.
Miller looks real nifty catching the ball on the highlights up above.
Ajayi caught 50 balls for 535 yds last year.
Sounds like Ajayi might that option too then. Still not buying Miller as a huge pass catching option, but he did improve on it last year.
Ajayi also broke more tackles because he had a shit-ton of carries, 347 last season to be exact. I still give him a lot of credit, and I expect him to really help our team this season.
How’d the play two go?
It went pretty awful actually. We played a good team, and once again we had some key players missing, but we didn’t show up today. It was brutal out there, sunny, hot and very humid about 90 degrees. First game I played RF, and didn’t get a lot of action. We were right in that game until the 5th inning, it was 2-1, and then they just started hitting everything everywhere, and they ended up winning 12-2. I pitched the 2nd game, and it was 6-6 in the 7th, at least 3 unearned runs (errors), and then they won it the bottom of the 7th, 7-6. Bad day for our team. The opposing pitcher in the 1st game was nothing, and we let him off the hook time and time again. Back to the drawing board.
I’m sorry Mike E. If it helps any, I once was in a rugby game where we lost 103-3. Sounds like you pitched pretty well though. Least you can walk away with that.

By game 2, it was at it’s hottest, game start was 1PM, and it was merciless. We need to hit better and field better, or we’ll have no business in the playoffs. That’s the truth man.
Can’t believe I am giving heat advice to a guy from Jersey. Wake up on the hot days and start chugging gatorade. And drink it during the game too. Yes you have to keep the fluid level up, but those electroytes are more than just an advertising thing.

I drank water before I played, and during the game I drank a 32oz bottle of gatorade, and another 16oz of water.
Make it all Gatorade.
Should add I once to the hospital because of the same. Imagine how my stuff on the field was effected before it hit that point.
I’ve had a couple of scares myself. I remember when I was about 39, pitched a double header in 95 + degree weather, and I felt like I was about to pass out. I went into my car, turned on the AC, but I was definitely totally overheated. I think the AC saved me from passing out.
I actually made it back from the away tourney (played two games in 90+) but just drank water on the way home. Passed out face down in a sushi place while drinking a beer three hours later and got carted off. ER doc said I killed my electrolytes and the water lowered the percentage into “tilt.”
And we biotch about how much guys on our team get per tackle, sack or reception……..and where’s Bookman?

Again, show me every play not just the highlights. We all know Miller did some good things, how could he not with his ypc over 5.
BACK FROM A SUCCESSFUL CONVENTION IN JACKSONVILLE.. At one point on our return trip to Tampa, me and Mrs. OD were less than 20 miles from the U. of Florida’s baseball field when Florida Atlantic was eliminating South Florida from the regional NCAA playoffs. The day before, FAU eliminated FAMU from the tourney. Their reward? A shot at the 5th ranked Gators on their home field. FAU eventually lost to Florida 2-1 in a game that could have gone either way. But give the Gators credit; they played just a bit better and probably deserved to win despite benefiting from an outrageously bad call at first base in the bottom of the 9th. Had the correct call been made, FAU eventually would have scored the tying run. I’d sure like to see instant reply in the NCAA college playoffs!! –Meanwhile, FAU head coach John McCormack, his staff and players, certainly deserve high marks for another terrific season of Owls’ baseball. They certainly have one of the top programs in Division I college baseball.

We all know sports isn’t on the level, take baseball, because it’s the easiest, all they have to do is use the machine/computer to call balls and strikes and that would eliminate 99% of the controversy, the other 1% would be taken care of with replay.
All these guys look great in the highlight films, to really evaluate we need every touch or every offensive play when they’re in the game. Miller looks great on his highlight plays and not so great on some I remember from last yr., catching the ball he particularly didn’t look so hot, but better than previous yrs.
