Wedge Scouting Report: Jalen Ramsey

Guess who is back?  Your friendly Intergalactic Agent.  I’m taking a hiatus from my destruction of Earth research.  I needed the break.

I can hardly breathe.  College Football is around the corner.  Florida State’s first game is 60 days away.  So today, I’m taking at look at a Seminole.  One of the most dynamic football players in the Country:  Jalen Ramsey!

JalenRamsey4

Talk about a playmaker!  Jalen Ramsey is just that.  He does it all well, tackles, covers and even pressures the QB.  He might be one of the most dynamic football players in College Football in 2016.  And no one should be surprised by it.  Ramsey was a 5 star recruit out of high school.  He was one of the top prospects in the Country in 2013.  An original USC commit, he switched to FSU and began making an impact on the field immediately

JalenRamsey6

Ramsey started at CB as a freshman.  He was the first freshman to start at CB at FSU since Dion Sanders.  But don’t box Ramsey into the cornerback position. A lot of NFL scouts are projecting him to be the first safety off the board in April 2016.

JalenRamsey7

Ramsey is a great tackler.  He is a solid hitter who never gives up on plays.  When he gets to the ball carrier he arrives FAST.  Ramsey is a two sport start at FSU.  He runs tracks for FSU as well.

JalenRamsey3

If I were going to compare Jalen Ramsey to an Alien Weapon of Destruction.  Ramsey would be my circumplanetary bomb.  He is ready to explode on the National scene in 2015.  Get ready to hear his BOOM!

  1. Brian in NY says:

Thanks for the report Piggy! I hate getting hyped about guys like this because (hopefully) we will probabaly have no shot at him when we pick. That said, I’ll keep an eye out for him just in case!

  2. son of a son of a shula says:

The hardest working alien in the business. Thanks Wedge. Ramsey looks pretty good.

  3. son of a son of a shula says:

I wonder if Jalen Ramsey is like Gordan Ramsey.
Yelling in his team mates face after they screw up – You f__cking idiot, how F__cking stupid are you?

  4. The Flying Pig says:

I don’t think we will catch Jalen Ramsey doing this

  5. Mike E. says:

    Great job Piggles!

Brian – Safeties don’t usually get drafted very early, so we may got a shot at Ramsey

  6. wyoming85 says:

Well it looks like the Fins stayed out of trouble this weekend? 🙂

  7. son of a son of a shula says:

We have a couple of guys on the roster now who if they show enough this year will make taking a Safety a non issue. Thomas, Aiken and Ced Thompson. All three have an arrow pointing way up.

Ramsey does however fit the mold, so to speak, that we’ve seen with Hickey so far about taking guys with a lot of versatility. Ramsey could surely give you some playing time as a corner and at safety as well.

  8. Tim Knight says:

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend.

I’m not looking at safety as being a concern at all at this time. We have proven guys and good young talent competing. In fact I’m not sure we have great needs at any position until we see that’s the case after this season.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

We had a great 4th Tim, was a great day with friends and fireworks.
Yesterday we had a huge storm, not the kind that hits and runs like usual this thing sat there and pounded us for a few hours.

      • Tim Knight says:

Cool, same here. My brother-in-law did the fireworks as usual along with the neighbors down the street. We usually have a battle and they beat us this year but everyone got to enjoy the display. We got a little rain right after we finished which was good to dampen any remaining cinders.

  9. herdfan says:

I had a fun weekend. I went glamping with my sister and another friend of ours. We stayed in a restored 1955 Spartan camper named the Silver Bettie outside Asheville, NC. Very retro but had a hot tub on the deck and some other conveniences like indoor plumbing! We had planned to do this before I broke my foot, I wasn’t going to go, but they talked me into it. The location where the camper was was straight out of Deliverance. First thing I said to my sister and friend when I pulled up to the site was ‘I hear banjo music!’
They did some hikes in the area which I couldn’t do. Then on Saturday evening, we were supposed to hike up to the top of a mountain in Black Mountain, NC to watch fireworks from above. Since I couldn’t hike I rode up in a 4 wheeler with some of the organizers of the hike. They had a supply truck carrying everyone’s chairs and coolers. About 100 people in total including the guides. Very cool vantage point.

  10. Mike E. says:

I had a great time on the 4th. We did fireworks too, you may have heard, we had a little accident with JPP. I feel a little guilty.

    • Tim Knight says:

      What happened with JPP?

It was nice to see Matz pitch well again and the Mets have a hitting party. 🙂

  11. son of a son of a shula says:

Ha ha who knew “Glamping” was a real thing? That trailer looks cool, I would love to stay there.

  12. wyoming85 says:

    Herd
Way to take it to the punctuation police! 🙂

  13. bookman11 says:

    Herd,

That looks awesome. I may have to try that sometime. We recently stayed in a place in Gatlinburg, but I could see Glamping….that would be fun. 4th of July was awesome……fireworks by the lake Saturday and Pool party at home yesterday!

I hope everyone made it through safe without burnt fingers or a blown off head.

  14. D says:

If we draft Ramsey, Jones might as well pack his bags. I think if we go for a Safety that high then we are looking to shed an expensive contract with a start right away rookie. I dont support doing this but i dont deny the possibility of it. Saftey, like pointed out before, isnt a big concern for me, so drafting one in round one would be a business move.

  15. Mike E. says:

JPP had a fireworks accident, damaged his hand. Didn’t blow his fingers off, but he has some nerve damage and burnt skin. Apparently, something like a cherry bomb went off in his hand.

He’ll be playing this year with his nub. lol

  16. Mike E. says:

    Tim

I’m thinking maybe Matz can play SS when he doesn’t pitch. I’m sure he can make any throw, and it would be nice to have his bat in the lineup.

  17. Mike E. says:

LOL @ Son – Hopefully just throwing down a spike after returning an INT for a TD.

  18. Tim Knight says:

I think our main safeties will be R. Jones, Delmas, Aikens and Thomas. Delmas needs to show he’s back from knee surgery but early on in OTAs he was running around with everyone else.

  19. Rhino says:

45 min. fireworks show over Corpus Christi Bay was a great 4th !! Got a table at a restaurant a few hundred yards from where fireworks were launched off a barge… after a great dinner the bartender let us through the kitchen back door to an amazing deck for an unobstructed view with the kitchen staff. Yup, he got a great tip. 🙂

    “He just continues to work.”

Chris Chambers on Jarvis Landry: http://oak.ctx.ly/r/3ahj3

    • Tim Knight says:

He wants to be great. He knows he’s not the biggest and fastest WR so he works on every part of his game including speed and strength.

      Go Jarvis!!!!

  21. Tim Knight says:

D, Jarvis has Jerry Rice’s work ethic. He did the same offseason work Jarvis is doing. He waned to be the best he could be.

    • D says:

I know, i dont think he has anything keeping him from being a star. His attitude is good so his chance to rise up is high.

      • Tim Knight says:

Yep! He along with Jennings will be a great influence on Parker and Stills and any other young WR we keep. Lead by example.

2014 Michigan State Cotton Bowl Blocked Punt Tony Lippett Block of the Year https://youtu.be/leS7fBIACnM via @YouTube

    • Al in MIA says:

I like Lippett but don’t see how that block is anything special. The entire right side of the Baylor formation collapsed under the MSU rush. 2 guys were in the backfield.

      • Al in MIA says:

eh, left side of the Baylor formation (right side of MSU’s formation) but you get the idea.

      • Tim Knight says:

He’s a playmaker in all phases, just roll with it. 🙂

      • Al in MIA says:

lol, i mean, i was commenting on the blocked kick and lead in title to the video but Lippett wasn’t in on the block just pancaking the kicker who wasn’t looking while chasing down the return man.

  24. Tim Knight says:

Al, just joking. Let’s hope Lippett is one of those right place right time guys, we need some more of those types of players.

  25. Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
I hope so too and I think he will be.
Too bad Lou isn’t as optimistic for other Fins DB players lol.
He’s been on a rampage crapping all over Will Davis.
You’d think Davis is the worst DB ever reading his comments lol.

  26. Al in MIA says:

I’m most excited to see the competition play out at LB & CB in terms of training camp.

    • Tim Knight says:

For me it’s G, depth at TE, the 5th and/or 6th WR, the 4th RB if we carry one. Then the possible 4th and/or 5th DT, SOLB and total LB depth, and the entire secondary with the exception of a few.

  27. Tim Knight says:

Grimes, Taylor, Br. McCain, Bowman, Bo. McCain, Davis (coming off of knee surgery), Lippett and Seamster with Aikens being cross trained for depth or the best spot for him in the secondary. I think we’ll find a solid group from competition.

I see 5 CB and 4 S with one for both at DB (Aikens) for a total of 10.

    • Al in MIA says:

Don’t forget Cedric Thompson as well

      • Tim Knight says:

I didn’t mention any safeties by name. We know who they are. 😉

If Ced Thompson shows enough in TC he could make the 53 man as a 10th DB who will be inactive until needed. He has upside but probably not ready to beat out other guys for playing time now.

  28. son of a son of a shula says:

Ced could make it as the fourth Safety with Lippett and Aikens as swing men but it would signify a strong youth movement:

    Grimes, Taylor, McCain, McCain, Lippett
    Jones, Delmas, Thomas, Thompson, Aiken

We’d lose out on Davis and the experience Bowman brings, unless Bowman beat out the older McCain in which case we lose experience as well. Don Jones gets cut again too.

    • Tim Knight says:

I think Aikens is ahead of Thompson in playing time at this time. But that’s my roster. 🙂

A young guy has to outplay Bowman.

  29. The Flying Pig says:

    Hey guys
That video is not Lippett blocking the punt
It’s Lippett blocking or CRUSHiNG the punter in the quick return

    It’s pretty awesome
With the replay just before it ends
