Mustachio Cuts, Player Profiles, LB Chris McCain

Ciao Dolfans.  Guess who comes to Mustachio for a taglio today…Second year man, Chris McCain.  What is going on here, another McCain, I must have McCain in my sangue.

If you don’t sapere  by now, Chris McCain is one of tre McCain’s with a chance to make the Dolphins.  Acquisto a McCain jersey this year is a sure thing, like my whore wife!

But why is Chris McCain Mustachio’s favorito Dolphin?  Naturalmente, because Chris McCain has the best twitter avatar of any Dolphin player.  Check it out.  Nessuna domanda, Chris McCain has his priorita right!

Can Chris McCain live up to his avi?  Dolfans probably ricorda the first game against the Patriots last year.  Chris McCain not only blocked a punt, he sacked Tom Brady.  Ahhhh…a Tom Brady sack is the stuff of Mustachio dreams…you too?  Here is a photo of the sack…so that you can enjoy it!

ChrisMcCain2

MustachioBarberChair

Affanculo!  Here is Chris McCain the Tom Brady Fracasso!  Prego Chris McCain, Si accomodi.

Mustachio is gonna give you a great cut!

ChrisMcCain4

So Signore McCain you tell Mustachio about your time at UCLA.  No No Mustachio, tell you what he know…

In 2013 McCain’s Bruins lose by 39 points to the Oregon Ducks.  McCain says to the UCLA coach “Why no arrabbiato coach – we lose today like a dull razor trying to shave a lumberjack!”  Mustachio paraphrases a little.  Point is.  The next day, Chris McCain is off the Bruins.

ChrisMcCain1

That is part of the reason Chris McCain went undrafted in 2014.  And part prt of the reason the Dolphins get so lucky! Now McCain is ready to make an urto for the Dolphins.

It’s vero, McCain started off fast last year but then he struggled to learn the playbook and was a bit of a niente spettacolo by the end of the season.

ChrisMcCain6

Sometimes the road to the NFL is not so liscio.  Like Cameron Wake who played in Canada before the Dolphins.

But rest assured, this year McCain will make an urto!  He may even start at Outside Linebacker!

Last week, in limited action, Chris McCain had his ankle rolled up on.

Mustachio’s cuore stop..No No No injury to Chris McCain.  He is Mustachio’s favorito Dolphins.

But Mustachio breathe much easier when he realized it’s not a serious injury.  Mustachio knows now that Chris McCain will not be stopped and Chris McCain will crush Tom Brady.

Why so much talk from Mustachio???

Okay Okay, Mustachio finish the cut Chris McCain.

What do you think Chris McCain. I call this cut, the Brady Fracasso ….you like?

B-T has the best shot even though he looked completely like crap in what should have been mop up duties. Im still not sure thought hey might not be better off waiting for them to cut Barkley in Philly and picking him up as a backup and potential replacement for Moore. Does he have eligibility for PS left or has he been active too many games in his career? Barkley did look pretty crisp a times, though i think he did benefit from receivers making him look good on some of his chunk yardage plays.

    ————————————-
This isnt uprising to me, LG is where he was better left at all along, and ive been saying it since we drafted him. Give the guy a chance and put time towards development and wow, look results. Not saying he is out of the woods, and that he finally gets it, because well this is the point he and the staff should have been at 3 years ago. If they had been he wouldn’t be a ? he would be one of the confidence points in our offensive line.

Turner is in likewise place, he just needs time devoted to him for development reasons, or maybe move him back to LT and fully commit to that journey. We are going to need a replacement LT sooner rather than later and i think Fox is past the point of developing further. He is what he is and i dont think thats good enough to ever be a starter. I think Turner turns out just fine at either position but they need to pick one and really work on getting him better at that, not drag him all over the place.

    • Tim Knight says:

Well Thomas is in his 3rd year this year and had to work through coming off of shoulder surgery his rookie season so it’s not there’s been so much time wasted. He’s better suited to compete for a starting job this year than ever before.

I think too much is made of guys playing multiple positions. Until you’re a locked in starter, that is the case for all young OL. The Giants Justin Pugh has gone from RT to LG to LT due to circumstances.

      • D says:

Yeah but if the intention is to have them be you eventual starter, as it definately seems they did, they should have focused more on one position and then just tried him at others. They have never done that with Thomas.

  33. Mike E. says:

I don’t really get any satisfaction over Lynch being cut. It seemed Stoneburner had a solid game, made a couple of nice catches (according to the announcers on the radio). Maybe Stoneburner’s growth, along with Gerell Robinson’s pushed Lynch out. In any case, we have the receiving threat TE I want (Cameron), I just hope he can stay healthy.

  35. Tim Knight says:

D, they’re doing it with Thomas now. He wasn’t ready as a rookie to start anywhere, and last year he served as a backup who ended up starting out of necessity. They tried him at LG and RG last year and he didn’t win the job. Now he seems to be improving and locking down LG. I have no problem how the coaches handled him. Also the OL coach and system changed last year. It’s only his 3rd season.

This defense allowed the most points per game over the final six games of last season. What needs to change to prevent that from repeating?

Grimes: It was a combination of things. Not to make excuses, but we were dealing with a bunch of injuries. But when it came down to it, it was a lot of minor mental mistakes. Things like that add up if a bunch of people are taking turns messing up pretty much. That’s what was going on. So what we got to do towards the end of the season, even if some people are nicked up, we got to focus on the little things and it will handle the bigger things.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

every team deals with injuries so that’s a bullshit excuse. Maybe their scheme was too complicated that the backups had issues with.

      • Tim Knight says:

Some deal with more than others. I don’t think starting backup LBs and signing corners off the street to start is bullshit or an excuse, it’s a reason. They were not the same defense, didn’t have the same talent. I believe the scheme was part of the problem and that’s why Philbin wanted Coyle to simplify it.

  46. uwantwat says:

  51. BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
if the FO was too stupid to have competent backups on this team last year then its on them. As I said almost every team in the NFL deals with injuries. Some deal with them better than others. Obviously we didn’t deal with injuries that well last year.

    • Tim Knight says:

How many teams are as good with backups playing multiple positions on the same unit? We’re not talking about each position, we’re talking about 3 and 4 LBs and 5 DBs. Give me an example of a team with mostly backups at LB and in the secondary that continued to excel on defense? Grimes basically confirmed what many of us have said all offseason and why Philbin wanted Coyle to simplify the defense.

Not sure why you’re even debating it, it happened. You don’t go from a top 5 defense after 10 games to sucking for no reason.

We’ll see if the injury excuse will work this year. I hope Ross is smarter than that.

The pats have won 10 games for the last 10 years. You’re telling me they never had injury issues? Good coaches figure out how to win despite injuries. They don’t use it as an excuse for losing.

    • Tim Knight says:

Okay you’re sweeping over what I said with general statements. I don’t want to hear anyone say the only reason we won was because the other team was really banged up or we had an easy schedule which happens all the time, because obviously talent doesn’t matter, you can win with anyone. 😉

It’s not a given that Fisher’s injury is serious, but “cart” and “MRI” are never a good combination. Chiefs RT Jeff Allen is already sidelined with an MCL sprain. Donald Stephenson would likely man the blindside were Fisher to miss regular season games.

    HAIR TO STAY!

Zach Vigil has been getting a lot of attention lately around Dolphins training camp.

He’s been getting more and more opportunities during practice, looked impressive during the intrasquad scrimmage at FIU and then turned in a solid showing in the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears.

Vigil is one of four rookie free agents the Dolphins have at linebacker this summer, but he’s the one who has stood out because of his instincts and his knack for being around the ball.

But when he was surrounded by reporters after practice Monday and was asked what he thought was the first thing fans would notice about him on the field, his answer had nothing to do with football.

“Probably my horrible hair,” he answered quickly.

As the media around him laughed, Vigil proceeded to explain that his brown hair is the longest it’s ever been and that he decided to grow it out on a whim.

He also was quick to point out he sees no magic powers in it and that it might be gone quickly.

“This? Shoot, I don’t know,” Vigil said. “We’ll see how things go. One of those days, if it’s too hot out here, it’s going off. I promise you that. I’m not that attached to it.

“I just really haven’t taken the time to go get it done yet. We’ll see how much longer it lasts.”

It’s not just the long hair that’s different for Vigil these days.

For the first time in three years, his brother isn’t lining up at linebacker next to him. See, Zach’s younger brother Nick also was a linebacker at Utah State.

While two brothers playing next to each other always makes for a nice story, the Vigils actually were stars. Both of them.

As Dolphins fans might know by now, Zach was selected as the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. Guess who else was a member of the All-MWC first-team defense: Yep, Nick Vigil.

“Man, that was awesome,” Zach said of playing next to his brother. “That was something that not a lot of brothers get to experience together. You know, I miss playing with my brother. I was able to play with him for two years. We started together last year and that was special. And that’s something, whether I play for 15 more years or if I never play again, that I’ll always hold real close to my heart because I love my little brother and I wish him the best this coming year.”

Nick Vigil will be a junior at Utah State this fall and will be looking to continue doing the family name proud.

In the meantime, Zach will be trying to make a name for himself in the NFL and with the Dolphins. Zach said he was hoping that at some point he also could develop a close bond with a fellow linebackers, something along the lines of what he had with his brother.

“I do miss that close camaderie because he and I were very competitive and very combative, how we talked to each other,” Zach said. “I haven’t found anybody quite to my brother’s level that I can talk to like that yet.”

Zach did find a familiar face after signing with the Dolphins, that being Will Davis.

The third-year Dolphins cornerback was a senior at Utah State in 2012 when Vigil became a starter as a sophomore.

“He was just one of those hard-nosed hard workers, always trying to get his nose somewhere on the ball,” Davis said. “He was good. We loved him. He was great. He kind of led as far as the front seven at the time. He put everybody in the front seven in the right place. He was solid, somebody to depend on.”

Vigil, however, was considered an overachiever at Utah State, something evidenced by the fact he joined the football team as a walk-on. Nick, on the other hand, was considered a star in the making from his high school days.

But Zach never let anything get in his way, not on the field or off. While he went from walk-on to redshirt freshman to ultimately MWC Defensive Player of the Year as a linebacker, he also graduated from USU in the spring of 2014 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies and earned his second bachelor’s degree in business administration in the summer of 2015.

In some ways, Vigil shares some similarities with a former Dolphins linebacker who had the same first name.

And when classic overachiever Zach Thomas spoke to the Dolphins players at camp last week, Vigil made sure he was paying attention.

“Zach wasn’t the best athlete or anything like that, but he was a smart player, he worked hard every day,” Vigil said. “And that’s anybody who ever played with him that I’ve talked to anyways, and that’s the vibe you get from Zach. He was a smart guy and he just pretty much said (if) you’re going to come in here you’ve got to work. It’s a flash. No matter if you play for one year or whether you play for 12 years, it’s still a flash in the pan. So when you’re here you might as well make the most of it.”

Vigil undeniably is off to a good start in that end. The challenge for him is to keep it up.

With or without the long hair.

  65. getterdone says:

JS, wow Ed Newman, now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a longtime. HE was like a late round draft pick by the Phins in the early 70’s I think.

  66. BoulderPhinfan says:

FFR yea we had this discussion before. Obviously the NFL and owners thought they earned them. That’s why they gave them the all trophies.

AS you see below. The pats are the winners of all those super bowls that they supposedly didn’t earn.

    http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/history

  67. getterdone says:

Here’s the cool 3min video interview with Zach Vigil.

  68. finfanrob says:

‘The pats are the winners of all those super bowls that they supposedly didn’t earn.’

ok cool, so we finally agree.

  69. getterdone says:

See sometimes the play is designed to throw the pass high and the receiver go up and get it. 😀

  70. stangerx says:

Sounds like Zach Vigil just needs a cool nickname and a hot girlfriend to be this year’s 7-11.

  71. jetsssuck says:

Goodell and the NFL refuse to back down from wanting Brady to admit guilt and accept at least a one-game suspension, while Brady refuses to accept guilt or take anything more than a fine.

Brady doesn’t have to appear in court this wednesday.

  72. getterdone says:

jetssuck, Forget Brady, We have Tanny!

    • jetsssuck says:

yes we do but Brady’s situation is very interesting and affects all NFL players and what a commissioner can do. Next contract between players and owners is going to be very detail oriented and very likely result in a lock out.

  73. getterdone says:

    Hal Habib @gunnerhal
Current Dolphins depth chart has Thomas/Turner at G, Albert ahead of Fox at T, WRs of Jennings/Stills/Landry (because of Parker injury).

Great to see Stills back on the field…now we don’t have to rush Parker any.

  74. getterdone says:

Stanger, I’ve been right on several….and no, I’m not a flavor of the day in camp guy.
I was really liking college tape on both Tripp & Vigil prior to getting them.

    • getterdone says:

….what I like the most about them, is in today’s NFL game, it’s heavily passing oriented, quick paced, short dump offs, etc….and both of those guys read react well, and have good coverage skills. They can eat in this system that Coyle runs and especially behind our DT’s & DL overall.

  76. Al in MIA says:

    GDP,
Over the weekend i saw a funny response on twitter regarding the so called “reporter opinions” that brought back memories of jim mora.
Coaching issues aside, if Jim Mora were the Fins coach, he would have had a field day with Omar lol.

  77. Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
Agreed. These reporters are all following false logic. Albert is limping because he’s recovering (not because he is hurt again LOL); Stills being healthy does not affect Parker’s rehab plan.

  78. The Flying Pig says:

The Eagles are poised to win the Stanley Cup

  79. Al in MIA says:

    Stanger,
    Zach’s nickname should be simple enough -> Vigil-ante. 😛

  80. Rockphin says:

Does anyone at the Herald or Sun Sentinel WRITE anymore? I have just clicked on five links in a row to their websites and all they have are videos. They used to transcribe the stuff at least!! I don’t go to a newsPAPER website to watch videos. ( plus they’re blocked at work)

  81. Rockphin says:

Especially now that they want you to pay for the content!!

  82. Tim Knight says:

Al, I’m recently getting over a sprained foot, not ankle, but where it bends. I did it digging with a shovel wearing the wrong shoes. I was limping for a month and even as it was getting better I was still limping. Go figure! LOL

  83. Rockphin says:

Actually Tim I know exactly what you’re talking about. I sprained my foot 3 4 years ago digging with a shovel with flip flops on it took forever to stop hurting

    • Al in MIA says:

That happened to me (arch injury) as well but it was changing a tire with flip flops on (kicking down on the tire iron as I was trying to unbolt the nuts).

  84. Al in MIA says:

    Rock,
Hate the newspaper sites as well but Twitter has been gold and a big driver of press info away from traditional mediums.

    • Rockphin says:

I hate twitter and wish it was never created. that being said I do watch the Twitter feed during practices. 😉

  85. The Flying Pig says:

  86. getterdone says:

“You Just Don’t Know and You NEVER Will”
LOL, thanks for that Al. It was classic Mora, better than the overused clip, “Plaaaayoffs?”

  87. getterdone says:

Piggy, don’t get too excited about La’el Collins just yet….that pancake was against a 6th round scrub way down the depth chart in his 2nd year….lol
But I do think Collins will eventually become a solid OT if he keeps his head in the pro game.

No he didn’t really say that did he? I don’t like his attitude at all. He’s actually a diva QB and not the humble guy I thought he was coming out of college.
    ————————————-
I think he was that guy Tim, key word being WAS. When my wife and i were watching the TB preseason game, the announcers wouldn’t stop talking about him, trying to make excuses for his bad plays and heaping the praise on his good ones. They were fucking throwing it on thick for Jameis. “Savior of TB”, “Things are different now that Jameis is here”, “Fameous Jameis”, over and over and over. I turned to her and said, this is how shit went down for RG3. At some point RG3 started beliving the hype and living the hype, and unless he humbles himself, Jameis will be in same boat. Hell at his combine interview he said he wanted themt o stop comparing him to Mariota because he was going to be taking his team to the SuperBowl this year so they should compare him to Rodgers or Brady, or Manning. RG3 is done, the kid cant handle the NFL life, he needs to take some time off and get his head straight and see if he can come back and make something of a career for himself, the NFL swallowed him up. Jamis is following in his footsteps right now, have to wait and see how he ends up.

  89. Tim Knight says:

Rock and Al, that’s the injury except not the heel for me it was on the top of my foot above where your foot bends., wrong shoes using too much torque. That’s what they make work boots for. I wasn’t wearing flip flops, but slip on type sneakers but still not enough support. I’d say I’m about 90% now.

  90. Mike E. says:

Tim is questionable for this weeks game. Check back later in the week to see how he’s progressing.

    • Tim Knight says:

LOL, I can relate to Parker a little bit. I couldn’t most things relying on your legs for support. You don’t realize how much you rely on your feet until it’s compromised. Driving hurt using the gas and brake pedal.

  91. Mike E. says:

    La’el! Kicking some ass!

Dolphins aren’t only team in joint practices this week. Bills OL yielded 9 sacks vs. Browns today, including 3 by starters

    Music to my ears! 😉

  96. getterdone says:

    Get a grip there Eli….lol

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports contract-year QB Eli Manning wants to be the NFL’s highest-paid player.
He wants more than Aaron Rodgers. More than Russell Wilson. And more than Philip Rivers. Rivers, who’s a month younger than Manning, just signed a deal that includes a whopping $65 million guaranteed with the Chargers over the weekend. Rodgers got $54 million guaranteed back in 2013. What Mannings has going for him that Rivers doesn’t is two Super Bowl championships while coming off a career-year 2014 season. There’s said to be a “significant gap” in contract talks.

  97. Rockphin says:

So, 5’9″ Brent Grimes is our #1 CB. Do you think he will be covering 6’5″ Kelvin Benjamin this week?

  98. Rockphin says:

The NE Patriots were planning on starting a rookie LG & RG this season but there RG Tre Jackson went down with what appeared to be a serious hip injury today….Who will be blocking Suh (or should I correct myself, falling down in front of Suh) on his way to crushing Brady?

  99. The Flying Pig says:

I think that was a DB Collins was blocking right?

  100. Rockphin says:

RGIII (three first round draft picks..) was the final ass fucking of Dan Snider by the football gods for whatever the hell he did.

  101. Rockphin says:

hey, just think, if they never did that we all would still be stuck over there reading the nitwits site or whatever joe w is thinking about.

    HA HA

  102. Rockphin says:

This is our season. We are taking the cup this year!

  103. Rockphin says:

Josh Kline or Ryan Wendell who is on PUP? But Kline is listed as the second string RG but his is the first string LG so basically NE doesn’t have a RG right now.

  104. finfanrob says:

    ‘THE BRIGHT SIDE? REALLY? ‘

what the hell? yeah the bright side. i always take the bright side. like for instance i know deep down inside lauren really wants me over ryan. if not why in the world would she pick some guys name with the first initial of mine.

lol rock. i remember on in some other galaxy, far far away and another blog, some fool jumping up and down screaming as to why the fins will never win cause they dont make great moves like washington did in securing the first over all pick.

  106. Rockphin says:

LG Kline, Josh – Wendell, Ryan PUP – Groy, Ryan – Mason, Shaquille
RG Wendell, Ryan PUP – Kline, Josh – Jackson, Tre

They only have 5 guards in camp and two are injured.

  107. Tim Knight says:

Anyone realize that TC is over and practice with the Panthers this week is just something different on a RS practice schedule. Now we treat the weeks like game day. It will be here before you know it.

    Who was that?

    it wasnt you.

    • Tim Knight says:

I know that because I said no way to 3 1st rd picks+ for anyone not established. I did like RG3 a lot coming out but I’m glad we stayed where we were and drafted RT instead.

I remember most fans saying no way to a trade like that so I’m curious about who it was?

  109. The Flying Pig says:

    Poor saints

  110. wyoming85 says:

  112. Rockphin says:

I remember there was some major RGIII love on the board back then. I don’t keep track of shit like that but I remember getting into it with some because I am not a fan.

I am so happy we stood pat and took Tannehill who will be the better QB when all is said and done.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

I sucked for luck but I never wanted rgIII. I didn’t know enough about tanny to like him or not. I’m glad we got tanny instead of RGIII.

slow down there, some of us are coordinated enough to work a shovel in flip flops. hell, this is going to really shock you, but can also chew gum and…..ok who am i kidding, ok cant chew gum and walk but i can dig a hole in flip flops.

    • wyoming85 says:

      Wrong hole!
but I’m sure you hear that all the time! 😉

    • Tim Knight says:

I don’t believe you unless your ground is super soft. This was hard dirt under an area of lawn we removed to put up a tomato garden on the side of the house with southern sun exposure. They’re doing great but I had to go through 2 weeks of icing. 😉

    no such thing.

  116. The Flying Pig says:

I recall people posting what the redskins gave up as too rich
I don’t remember people praising the redskins too much for making that trade even though I think people loved RG3
But there are always thought that are eager to criticize so I don’t doubt that there was some bashing of TE dolphins for not doing what the redskins did

But it really doesn’t make sense
The redskins were like 6 and we were 12
So we would have needed to give up even more

Ken was in NYC when we drafted Tanny
    And we had shots…lol

  117. The Flying Pig says:

  118. finfanrob says:

  119. BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
sorry about coming at you about philbin again today 🙂

I have to stop thinking about the last few years. I’m wiping the slate clean with philbin. It seems like he has his shit together this year. I’ll judge him by how he does this year and this year alone.

    • Tim Knight says:

It’s all good, bro. You know my stance. I want to give the team some time to build something. You can’t look at this group for the time prior to this current team being here because this is a completely different style of team than we’ve had in years. You have to go back to Marino to see an emphasis on the passing game. We’ve been built around the run since Jimmy Johnson. That started 19 years ago.

It’s a new season. Enjoy the ride. Pretty much all of us agree that not making the playoffs this year will deflate us as in what does it take? We’re do. 🙂

  120. Rockphin says:

Wyoming, it is worse than that. I took the shovel away from someone to “show them how it’s done” and fucked up my foot……while wearing flip flops…(how do you do the hanging your head in shame emoticon again?)
