It’s (Preseason) GAME DAY! #2

header(Header from CBS Sports)

The joint practices between the Dolphins and Panthers wrap up tonight with preseason game 2 in Charlotte.  After warnings about fighting with the opposing teams, only one minor skirmish was reported during the joint practice sessions.  Not so bad.  Each team lost a player for the season with an ACL injury.  Delmas for the Dolphins and WR Kelvin Benjamin for the Panthers.  Not so good.  There were also reports the Panthers coaching staff asked the Dolphins to dial back their pass rush because the Panthers were overwhelmed OR alternatively both teams agreed to dial it back for a 2 minute drill.   Whatever you need to tell yourself.  Either way, it will all be settled with the game tonight.

No… It wouldnt bother me if Suh and Wake sat the whole thing out…
I’d rather see our Offense and get a good look at our Secondary.
I never even noticed Grimes last week except when they showed him ob the sideline
    GO PHINS!!!

the starters may play a quarter or maybe a half depending how they play. Next gamethe 3rd they play almost three quarters

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Philbin likes to play the starters one drive into the 3rd qtr for game 3, just to get the halftime adjustments down. Tonight I expect the starters to go one qtr, then get replaced after the carry over drive into the 2nd qtr.

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

jetssuck has it right. 3rd game is the dress rehearsal, the starters may play as much as 3 QTR’s. 2nd game (tonight) starters probably play a couple of series, maybe a little more, to get ready for game 3. Game 4, most starters may not play at all.

  5. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We won last night, and we even covered the spread. Defense was solid last night, holding the Rockies to 3 FG’s, and the offense did just enough scoring 2 TD’s. lol

LOL — I was talking about going to a sports bar to watch the Phins game if he wanted…….what are you talking about? 🙂

  26. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Man can labs swim. Grew up with one that would wait for the chance to crash out the open door and swim out as far as she could when I took our little Laser out. Think she would have swum to China. I used to have to save her…….Vader turned the scenario around.

    —————————————-

Caught in a strong current while swimming off Joppa Flats last weekend, Patrick Mulligan began wondering if he would ever see his two sons again.

That’s when his 22-month-old black Labrador retriever, Vader, jumped into the water and paddled close enough that Mulligan could grab the dog’s life preserver handle. That action, Mulligan said, likely prevented him from drowning within sight of his two sons.

Mulligan began swimming on his own during the height of high tide without a life preserver. But soon after Mulligan found himself drifting away from the boat and about 30 yards from shore. Realizing their father was in trouble, the older boy ordered Vader to jump into the ocean and save their dad.

“I let Vader loose to go swimming with him in case he was drowning…Without hesitation, Vader did just that and swam toward him….He did it flawlessly, he was very swift and sure in what he was doing.”

At first Mulligan grew concerned that Vader might make matters worse by climbing on top of him. Instead, Vader paddled within arm’s reach, allowing Mulligan to grasp the handle of the dog’s life preserver. Vader than pulled Mulligan until he could touch bottom, possibly saving his life.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If you had paddles on your feet like a duck you could do this too 😉 We had to send our Lab to our daughters house when we moved to Vegas, she didn’t like the water that much, but the first one we had loved the water. During his older days he was in the Carson River and I had to save him, the current was too rough, but when he was younger he was a monster swimmer.

All this talk about having to dial it down against the Panthers, may or may not be true, but after watching the first preseason game I’d think it was “More Likely Than Not” to be true 😉

Seriously though, when we had bad teams in the past this was the type of thing that would happen to us. I remember a preseason game about 10 yrs ago when we had about 110 total yrds in the game, and it may have been game 3. Needless to say we weren’t very good that yr. The last time we dominated the Dline was in the 70’s.

“@sultan28348: how much time do you think 1st team gets in game 2 tonight?”» 3 series or 20 snaps.

That’s pretty normal from Philbin, obviously an individual may go a little longer, especially a young player expected to start or that is challenging to start.

  48. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    steve,

the calls they get arent going to stop as long as lady boy is playing

  49. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Steve, that call where they called Vernon for pushing the ball further back after the strip of Brady when he was trying to recover it – where we get an unsportsmanlike penalty and they get 15 yards and a new set of downs still aggravates me that a call like that even exists.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

that was such bullshit. I’m still pissed about that call. It was so obvious that NFL wanted brady to win that game.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That was the most obvious example. Yeah let’s take a play where Miami defenders wrecked the Pats and find a way to turn in their favor. Unreal!

The best way for us to get back at them is to kick their ass twice and overtake the division. In fact that’s the only way.

  50. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
that should have been 4th and 35 instead it was 1st and goal from the 9. SMH

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think that’s right. It should have been like 3rd and 19 or something like that and it was further back than that but maybe I’m totally off. LOL

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

no I’m probably wrong. All I know is that they had either a 3rd or 4th and a long way to go and they needed a td to win. It was total bullshit gift from the refs to the pats.

And I also agree that we should just win and take the division away from them. We can split with them and still do that.

  51. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

  52. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

you guys talking about that play. i remember one even a few years earlier against new cheatland where they fumbled the ball and the guy that made the tackle causing the fumble didnt get off the rb and they called him for holding the guy during the fumble and gave the ball plus the penalty back to new cheatland. even the announcers were confused saying they had never heard of such a thing and how could the defensive player hold the player he tackled

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s the nonsense that goes on with them. Everyone is on notice now. Hopefully that BS changes and it starts with us kicking their asses. 🙂

I do know many owners are tired of it and it’s been exposed. If Brady gets his suspension lifted watch the outcry.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I was just going to write about that play, but I’m pretty sure it was against Buffalo. The Fins defender did hold, and there is a rule against it, but that’s never called. Another one that killed me was Reshad Jones intercepting Brady, in Miami no less, and they called us for a BS block in the back on the return that went for 6.

if the courts over turn it, the nfl should continue to fight it. but they wont, they will roll over and let the favored child back.

no way over turning it is good for the nfl. he cheated. they cheated. and we already see what happens with them cheating and prior punishment. they are just going to keep on doing it. they have made it clear they are not afraid of the nfl and the rules. if it gets turned over it just basically tells every team and player to go ahead and cheat, there will be little or no punishment for it.

i am not a big baseball fan, but at least they have no problem kicking people out of the league for good if they violate the rules

  65. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Watching some preseason games, and so far I think the officiating has been horrible at best. The end of the Clev Buff game was pathetic. On 4th down and goal with about a minute to go Clev gets called for a bad PI, keeping the game alive. KC and Seattle, Chase Daniels gets hit just after the ball was out and gets a roughing the passer call. Those are the bad calls I’ve seen for this weeks games after watching about 5 minutes of those 2 games. As an aside, Alex Smith threw a pick six in the first half and a TD, then on the final drive of the half he took a bad sack to get pushed out of FG range, so his productivity was absolute zero 😉
