I Want Pictures

I Want Pictures

by son of a son of a shula

With only one pre-season game left and another 11 days until gloriously the new season starts I thought I’d tell you about my Dolphin porch and what I want to do with it. We actually didn’t set out to make the porch a Dolphin porch,128 not sure why not actually, but it all came about as a result of re-purposing an old mirror that has a frame around it to make it look like a window. When we decided to use it my wife said, “hey let’s paint it teal”. So the Dolphin in me said, “well shit if we’re going to paint it teal we may as well use the official Dolphin color.” She agreed and I painted it on there and there was only one thing missing – Dolphin orange. Even though I didn’t put any orange on the mirror I did decide to paint a new wood framed door with it. And in my world painting wood is sacrilege; I could only ever paint wood with Dolphin colors otherwise no way. Anyway so here we are with a Dolphin porch and in need of more Dolphin stuff for the porch.

I had to get the porch finished and ready for a party two weekends001 ago and I came up with an idea that was inexpensive and easy. I went into my picture files and chose some pictures that I took myself at the stadium and had them made into 5 x 7 prints, put them in dollar store frames and mounted them on the wall. Not just mounted but I put them up with a nail gun, that was fun, just held a level there and bam bam bam – done.  I only did 4 and now I want to add a bunch more there. There’s plenty of space.

Here are the 4 I used:

You may recognize the last one it was my avi for a while and if anyone has the Herd T-shirt that’s the avi used for me on it.

There are several shots I want to get at the fest this year, especially with all the renovations but I have several more that I’m going to DSCN8018add that I already have . They include  Csonka and Marino’s Ring of Honor pics, more pics that reflect the old look of the stadium both inside and out. Of course I need to find each years group fest pics that I want to add. And the Cheerleaders (got plenty of pics of them).

As far as the pictures I don’t have, I have a list. I want the pic of Manny Frenandez’s name on the ring of Honor as he was finally inducted  last year. He’s always been one of my favorite all-time Dolphins. Same for Garo, I want a pic of his name (RIP). I want a picture very similar to above, looking across the stadium,  but it of course will show the new aqua seats. Perhaps pictures of some of the new fancy sections but I also want some of the corners where they removed seats so I can have a progression of old,  new in waiting and then next year with the screens in.

DSCN7855 DSCN9091

SUH, I want a real cool pic of Mr. Suh. If at all possible I want to try and get a pic of that front 4 standing together. One of those pictures that is reminiscent of the old Steel Curtain or the Purple People Eaters shots you see all the time. I’ll have to super zoom and find an opportune time to snap a shot. That would be awesome to have a picture of Vernon, Mitchell, Suh and Wake that I got myself.

Oh yeah and there’s a rule: I will only put pictures out there that I took myself (or if wifey did) only exception will be the annual Fest pic.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new renovations to Sun Life when we meet for this years fest. I’m looking forward to seeing this 2015 team go out and whoop ass too. You’ve been a Dolphin fan for a long time don’t act like you can’t feel it.

Suh is here, everything is different now!

Only a week and a half folks, we can make it!

Cheers!

Hanging pictures on the wall can be a real pain in the ass at times making sure you get the nail in the exact spot and then trying to hook that stupid little ring on it. Using the nail gun to hang pictures was quite liberating…and easy!

Oh – the door is Fir so I didn’t paint some nice Mahogany or Walnut or something like that. I’m not that insane.

I hope the judge rules in favor of the NFL today. If the decision is upheld, Brady’s camp will most certainly appeal and try to get an injunction to delay the suspension until the appeal hearing.

I hope they get it. THEN later this year in November- December they can uphold the suspension for the final 4 games of the year.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

If the ruling is against the league, I’d think they be able to likewise appeal it up the chain.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

This can go through next year if Brady gets a injunction. We may be better off having Brady suspended you have to remember NE fans wanted to replace Brady early last year after their poor start. After reading the Wells report and the Kraft rebuttal to all the facts I don’t believe the NFL has a case in fact I think Brady may have a malice defamation suit against Goodell..

Good work Son. And I hear you on hanging pictures. My wife treats our walls like a pin cushion. I’ve made her start using more double stick strips, as a lot of the stuff she wants up is relatively light.

RGIII is Due $16m next year. If he is still the backup Washington’s assrape by the football gods will be complete. They HAVE to try to trade him.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      Come on Man!

The only guarantee in the contract is for injury (2016), with that said RGIII is done in Washington, he’ll be cut this yr, and won’t be put in any type of position to get hurt during practice.

The only thing that could stop this from happening is Snyder, and people on here bitch about Ross, SMH.

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Deservedly so, I might add. Ross’s mega-misses with team hires is the number one reason why Miami has had 4 non-winning seasons in a row. It’s amazing that some so-called Dolphin fans are OK with this. It’s a fact that Steve Ross is the only owner in Miami history who has never won a playoff game!!

This is a good article from Ben Volin on Deflategate and what might happen today in fed court

He mentions some of the things I have said about Judge Berman attempting to twist the arms of the parties to settle
And the possibility of the Judge leaving the CBA order only

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I think this is the likely outcome (Berman respects the CBA) as he won’t want to be overturned by the higher court, regardless of what others have be saying. I could be wrong, as I am not a lawyer, nor a legal maven- I just play one on a blog.

    ———————————
I’m unexpectedly home today waiting on a licensed electrician to come to our house and restore our water situation. Classic case of water, water, everywhere but NOT a drop to drink!! –Floods have somehow caused a breakdown in the underground line running from our water pump to the house. Mrs OD not exactly thrilled with lack of water. But she’s got another day to spend, and I do mean “SPEND,” at the dentist’s office. She gets the pain and I get the bill!! Meanwhile, flood waters in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas Counties are at near all-time record highs, with potholes everywhere!! –Huge hole opened on southbound lane of I-75 last night near Dade City exit. — They HOPE to have it filled sometime today. But southbound traffic is down to ONE LANE and the back-up is huge. However, since there’s no such thing as global warming or climate change, I’m confident all will be well by tomorrow.

  29. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Fields was making $3.3M and Darr will make 525K. So just like at every other position, if it’s close or the young guy is better, go with the young guy.

  30. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

WOW! Fields cut. Didn’t see that coming

So sorry Jon, I know that hurts bud.

  31. drg's avatar drg says:

Great job, Son! I will hire you to design my Dolphins man cave when the day comes.

Condolences to Stanger…. No sense in paying top dollar for a punter in today’s NFL though. I suspect we will have a new kicker before the season starts as well.

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I doubt Darr is a better punter than Fields, but he sure is a heck of a lot cheaper.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Like I said it was probably close and Darr impressed in both practice and in the game. When that happens you go with the savings. Fields had an 8 year run.

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

Mike E.; This MIGHT make more sense IF the Fins use the roughly $2.775 M in cap space to hire a decent O-Lineman in the next few days. The final cuts from other teams will be very interesting in that regard.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We’ve got bigger issues than the Oline moneywise, such as OV and Miller.

Alberts appears he’ll be ready for the opener, and if not soon thereafter, DT seems to have finally arrived, Pouncey is back from the false alarm, Juwan is solid, we just need to settle the RG, which isn’t the most important position on the field, and Tannehill’s pocket presence makes all of them look better.

      • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

You always have to save some money going into the season in case we have injuries and we need to sign decent players.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Darr has one hell of a leg, and Fields seems to have been in decline last yr and starting off in the preseason, so even though I need some help getting my jaw shut I’m ok with it. This is the first surprise of many to come, considering our cap situation.

      This is that case!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m starting to hate Miko worse than Omar, what an ignorant statement. Hello there’s such a thing as a salary cap and we have the worse situation in the league. The $3 mil saved this yr added to the $3 mil next yr may be enough to get OV and Miller signed, without losing anyone else.

By week 2 no one, except maybe Stanger, is even going to miss Fields.

  43. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    OMG on Fields!
I expected to see some vet cuts due to rounding up some coin to resign Vernon and a couple other in house FA’s next season, but I figured Fields was kinda safe unless he was injured.

I had Matt Moore getting cut to free up money, thinking the more athletic & younger Freeman might back up Tanny, but Freeman has been Offman so far…lol. But, he’s learning a new system, may need a tad more time.

I also had Franks in an upset beating out Sturgis, not as big a savings, but substantial nonetheless. Sturgis seems to up n down to me. Surely Franks can’t be much worse, in fact, I think he may turn out to be a future stud.

    Well that’s my take….thoughts?

I like Darr and think he’ll do well, it was a good move by our FO.

GD, there were years we didn’t bring in any competition for Carpenter and Fields.

Fields was a very good punter for a long time, 8 year run with us. But if our season is dependent on punting, than we’ve got larger issues. Plenty of other teams have had success without Fields as their punter. We found a young punter who performed well. This happens all across the league every year.

Fields – 2015 base 1.65 mil, cap hit 2.52 mil dead money for this yr and next 2.52 mil. I would think we’d save $1 mil + a little bit from his base contract compared to Darr’s.

Year Base Salary (Guaranteed) Bonuses Cap Number
    2015 $1,650,000 $770,000 $0 $100,000 $0 $2,520,000
    2016 $3,525,000 $770,000 $0 $25,000 $0 $4,320,000

Darr’s contract $525,333 per yr for 3 yrs, but let’s only use 2 yrs, since that’s how long Fields was signed for.

Fields numbers for the next 2 yrs would’ve been S6.84 mil cap hit.
    Darr’s contract for the next 2 yrs = $1,050,666 + $2.52 dead money on Fields = $3,570,666

Savings = $3,269,334 Plus one more yr of a cheap $525,333 for Darr.

    Wyo,
Ouch indeed but Cedric came into the draft with a medical flag so no surprise.

    Stanger,
Here ya go, you can start looking at Darr in your current upside down world perspective LOL

We should expect some cuts next year who have significant contracts. Think of it as the 3rd phase to rid ourselves of all things Ireland. LOL

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I think we got them all this yr. Can you think of someone that might get cut next yr? I guess we’d have to wait until this yr is over to see who underperforms. The FO is making quality football decisions.

Oh Shit! Stanger’s fanhood tested!!!!!!! Best of luck Brandon Fields. That paycheck was too big I guess.

    Hi Jahn,
I’m California bound at the end of September (Vegas trip Sep 24-28 but sticking around LA on the 28-30 when I return from Vegas).

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

If you’ve got a rental car and want to drive up to Santa Barbara (about 1.5-2 hours from LAX) the brewery will be open. Grand opening is 18th-20th….would be cool to see you. SB is a great place to visit. All the hollywood types buy vacation homes here….

  84. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

    Tim,
I think you’re slightly under-estimating how good Fields has been. Sure, his numbers last year weren’t standout, but he had a rough start. Look at what he did after he shook off that slump and there was no sign of him on the downhill.

I don’t have a problem with the move, it was business, but very very few punters on earth can pin a ball deep the way Fields can. He’ll get picked up as soon as he clears waivers for less money and he’ll make more probowls, I have little doubt.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Maybe. I never really get attached to kickers or punters so it’s not a big deal to me. He had a nice run here but pro bowl punting never really made much of a difference for us in the big scheme of things. It’s not a punter driven league. LOL

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I hear ya on that. I do think his ability to basically backspin the ball was uncanny though and pretty amazing.

Philbin describes the kicking competition between Caleb Sturgis & Andrew Franks as “close” #Dolphins

  86. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
Indeed on the Ireland stuff but the sad part is, Fields was drafted by Randy Meuller in the 7th RD of the 2007 draft year. The year the Fins took, sadly again, Ted Ginn in RD 1, Samson Satele in RD 3, & Paul Soliai in RD 4.

  87. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Wyo,
Yikes! might be the kiss of death for Caleb but to be honest. Many focus on the FG ability of a place kicker and rightfully so but to me, the kickoff ability and specifically the skill to produce many touchbacks might mean more to me than sheer FG accuracy.

  88. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Jahn,
For sure… my brother lives in LA (West Hollywood) so that’s why I’m flying into LA and then round tripping it to Vegas. SB is very for sure; went there a few years ago for a wedding and stayed a few days and explored the area. It’s definitely a great place to live. I loved it.

  89. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The exodus of players prior to Hickey and now Tannenbaum has been prominent. I see it continuing next year. It’s common practice with new personnel people.

  90. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Lets get something straight — Fields was the best punter that ever booted one for the Miami Dolphins.

Yeah you can bring up Roby……but Fields sniper precision makes him better.

Yeah you can say it made financial sense……but that doesn’t change the point.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’ll be okay Stanger lol. Very few punters are the difference in winning and losing seasons is my only point. Nothing against Fields. He was very good for us for a long time.

Stanger, is that Sturgis, the photo of the distraught guy with a pistol next to his noggin?

  93. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
Piggy and I were joking around on Twitter that it would be funny to see fans toss ballpark franks onto the field after an Andrew Franks game winning FG.

Alright, everybody STAND THE F**K UP, wherever you’re at and lets all SALUTE Brandon Fields!
Thank You Brandon for your services, err leg.
    Kudos #2!
