It’s (Pre Season) GAME DAY!! #4 Tampa Bay @ Miami

header            (Header from CBS Sports)

Game 4 of the Preseason.  This is the most important game for many of the guys on the team.  The ones who are working and hoping to make the team.  It’s their last opportunity to impress, to catch the eye of the coaching staff and make the team.  And if not the Dolphins, then perhaps another team will notice and pick them up after cuts are made.  For some, it may be the end of their hopes to be an NFL player.  I wish them all luck and thank them for their efforts.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

first first again on 2 post of same day

  2. Rockphin says:

WTF? MikeE then all the effort to write a post and it gets posted for a few minutes? Everyone hit the back button and read Mike’s article

  3. jetsssuck says:

i thought i may have died yesterday because nobody posted to askMike

  4. Rockphin says:

Good job MikeE! I went back and read all of Ask Mike

  5. jetsssuck says:

Let’s not forget Uwantwat open heart operation in 12-18 hours. Say a prayer for him for this is a serious operation.

  6. ocalahowie says:

Well since its the Crappy game I wouldnt go crazy to see it but since its the Bucs it will certainly be on here so I guess I’ll watch it anyway.
One guy I will be watching is Vigil. For some reason he doesnt seem to fit the mold of an NFL player but he’s going to be and I sure hope it’s with us…
    JOHNNY ON THE SPOT!

  7. naplesfan2010 says:

I hope to see either Semisch or Stoneburner do enough to really claim the 3rd TE spot.
With the the 6th RB cut, this will be a whole game for Gills to try to move past James, which might be a moot point due to them liking him at kick returner. Or maybe they just wanted to let James take the hits to save Landry for the season. Ajayi I think will break off at least one good run.

  8. naplesfan2010 says:

I did go back and read Ask Mike and it was well done as usual. I do wish we could keep Jeff Luc, but there is just not enough room for him. He would make a great secret FB.

  9. jetsssuck says:

I’m gonna look at who runs down on first special teams plays as that may be the best indication who sticks to the squad.

    • jetsssuck says:

over 700 players will go looking for new jobs saturday. They can play in canada only since the NFL cut back international development league.

  10. Rockphin says:

I was listing to NFL network and the next coach was on talking about what he would be looking for in the last preseason game. He said a good indicator is to watch the punt return team on special teams because that’s where they put their best special teams players in those guys are most likely to make the team

  11. olddolphan says:

HEY MIKE E.;EXCELLENT STUFF, my friend!! Already looking forward to the next edition.
A GAZILLION POSITIVE THOUGHTS for Uwantwat. What Wewant is a stronger heart for him!

Several significant college games tonight. Interestingly, Western Kentucky of Conference USA is favored to defeat Vanderbilt at Vandy. To nobody’s surprise, the Hilltoppers are co-favorites (along with Herd’s Marshall team) to rule the C-USA East Division. The West Division likely will go to the winner of the Rice-Louisiana Tech game. In the Sunshine State, I expect Son’s Central Florida Knights will pound FIU’s Golden Panthers. Next to FSU’s Jimbo Fisher, UCF’s George O’Leary is the best recruiter/coach in the state!

  12. Mike E. says:

Wow, scheduling snafu! I guess I did this weeks Ask Mike for nothing, or maybe we’ll run it another day.

  13. Mike E. says:

    Thanks Rock, OD

  14. jetsssuck says:

Have wonder if any trades are gonna happen. We are deep on DL and I believe we won’t release any when we developed them

  15. The Flying Pig says:

I re-scheduled Ask Mike for tomorrow
Oops we had a scheduling snafu

  16. The Flying Pig says:

We actually have a live chat going up tonight at 6:55 (Thanks Herd) before the game

    Its a fun little experiment
Make sure you guys tell us what you think of it
I won;t be able to come on until later

  17. Mike E. says:

  24. Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,
Donald Thomas is too injury proned and doesn’t present much of an upgrade in what the team already has. He’s basically a more experienced Billy Turner though I see Billy with more talent.

  25. Al in MIA says:

I missed this yesterday but saw it on James Walker’s morning take:

The Associated Press writes Dolphins running back LaMichael James wants to be called “LaMike.”

    LOL.

    Sounds like your nickname MikeE

  26. Al in MIA says:

I was randomly looking for a Dolphins pic of Jamil Douglas and came across this LOL

What you think Philbin is asking “Boys, does that look like a gum wrapper to you?”

    • Tim Knight says:

      It looks like a giant…

    • Al in MIA says:

      Tim,
LOL, I must admit that when I saw this pic i started thinking of that crap you posted yesterday (the vibrator). I was imagining that thing being on that paper Philbin is holding and all 3 of these guys debating what it is.

  27. Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
I saw your post about the Nats yesterday….I think you are right but funnier things have happened in the past.
    Just a friendly reminder LOL

    • Tim Knight says:

Yeah that’s what I said, it would take this sort of thing. I don’t see this team doing that though, I really don’t.

Tom Brady beats NFL in `Deflategate’ court case, judge nullifies league’s 4-game suspension.

  29. Al in MIA says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TO NY JUDGE.

  30. D says:

Im so sad Suh, Wake, Mitchell and Vernon wont be playing. I would really like to see them flatten Jameis.

Oh and i just realized, all along we should have been able to predict RG3 would wind up where he is, i mean his name RG3, as in Rober Griffin 3rdstring.

  31. wyoming85 says:

He came out forcefully in Brady’s favor, maligning the NFL for its handling of the scandal that erupted after the AFC championship game in January, when officials discovered during the first half that Brady used underinflated footballs. New England beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-7 then won the Super Bowl two weeks later.

    http://www.palmbeachpost.com/ap/ap/top-news/judge-lets-brady-play-ruling-against-nfl-in-deflat/nnXfR/?ecmp=pbp_social_twitter_2015_sfp

  32. Mike E. says:

I want to see if every suspension goes to the courts from now on. This is a bad precedent.

    • Al in MIA says:

Agree. They mentioned the Feely situation the other day and how he wasn’t disciplined for what was deemed similar matters but part of the NFL suspension of Brady was based on past incidents with that club (NE settled and took a penalty on the spygate situation). The Jets had no prior situation like that to consider with Feely’s action.

  33. Al in MIA says:

Can’t wait for Pats vs Dolphins.
This year we can just take the division without those pussy NE fans using the Brady excuse.

  34. Mike E. says:

    Al

Isn’t that pic of Pouncey and Turner?

  35. Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
Agreed, the difference this year is pitching (vs the mediocre starters they had during the collosal collapse).

  36. Mike E. says:

Goodell should “Tonya Harding” Brady as he comes out of the tunnel for the Steelers game

  37. wyoming85 says:

I wonder if Goodell flexes a little muscle in a retaliation against Patsies?

I know I’d be doing a little planning a little scheming right now!

  38. Tim Knight says:

Is anyone really surprised by the ruling? You could see it going this way the last few weeks. I really don’t even care because this sort of stuff is becoming ridiculous and I’d rather just watch the games and not care about the other stuff. I’m tired of hearing about the commissioner all the time. It’s the game I like, not all the nonsense.

  39. Al in MIA says:

I guess the judge is fine with the destruction of evidence. A judge involved in a private businesses affairs at that.
Whatever, I hope Suh breaks him in half.

    Section 1.
    League Discipline:
Notwithstanding anything stated in Article 43:
    (a) All disputes involving a fine or suspension imposed upon a player for
conduct on the playing field (other than as described in Subsection (b) below) or involving action taken against a player by the Commissioner for conduct detrimental to the integrity of, or public confidence in, the game of professional football, will be processed exclusively as follows: the
Commissioner will promptly send written notice of his action to the player, with a copy to the NFLPA. Within three (3) business days following such written notification, the player affected thereby, or the NFLPA with the player’s approval, may appeal in writing to the Commissioner.

THIS SECTION BASICALLY HAS BEEN RENDERED WORTHLESS.
The players association and US courts have basically wiped their asses with it.

Lesson learned from Tom Brady appeal….Anytime anyone wants to see your phone & it might incriminate you…..BREAK THAT $%^&

  51. Al in MIA says:

I GOT YOUR FOOTBALL RIGHT HERE TOM

  52. stangerx says:

Looks like Tom skates for now……hope the NFL appeals.

And if some Pats fan tells you this proves Brady is innocent……don’t you believe it. The judge’s ruling was solely based on whether the NFL had the right to do what it did given how it did it…..stuff like whether Brady had fair notice of what the penalty might be for the infraction and the ability to fully investigate his defense in the appeal.

    • Try Pod says:

That’s right- he made no statement on Brady’s innocence or guilt, just on the nfl’s handling of the situation.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Right, and we all know he was involved, two locker room attendants didn’t suddenly have a brilliant idea. Hence the destroyed phone.

  53. D says:

I dont think anyone should be blaming Goddell for this, Goddell did his part and levied a penkty against Brady and the Patriots for their actions, its the federal government overturning this. They were brought in because by the law a person being fined by the NFL can have the federal government step in and say whether or not there are grounds to continue. They chose to dismiss instead of proceed, based upon the fact they did not find that the NFL had done enough to produce evidence that Brady actually was involved, even if the destruction of the phone really did suggest otherwise. They basically said that the punishment of 4 games was excessive for conduct detrimental, and was more applicable to things such as PED violations, which were conclusively provable.

    • D says:

being penalized, sorry not fined and that was penalty not penkty

    • son of a son of a shula says:

Yeah Goodell did his part and I was actually surprised at how aggressively he went after his beloved patsies.

maybe the NFL screwed up not sending the lawyer as requested that rewrote the Wells report.I expect the NFL to appeal to higher court even though they never had case but based on CBA agreement which the league NFL thought they had a full proof agreemnet to convict anyone they want guilty or not.

  58. Al in MIA says:

    From Judge Berman’s court docs,

“Goodell’s reliance on notice of broad CBA “conduct detrimental” policy – as opposed to specific Player Policies regarding equipment violations – to impose discipline upon Brady is legally misplaced. In both the Ray Rice case and the Adrian Peterson case, the players could, perhaps, be said to appreciate that acts of domestic violence might be deemed “conduct detrimental.” And yet, in both of these cases, the players were disciplined only after findings were made under the specific domestic violence policy [New NFL Personal Conduct Policy (Aug.2014). See Adrian Peterson, 2015 WL 795253, at *5-6; Ray Rice, slip op. at 16. Rightly so, because an applicable specific provision with the Player Policies is better calculated to provide notice to a player than a general concept such as “conduct detrimental.” See In re Lehman Bros. Holdings Inc., 761 F.3d 303, 313 (2d Cir.2014) cert. denied sub nom. Giddens v. Barclays Capital Inc. , 135 S. Ct. 2048 (2015) (“To the extent that there appears to conflict between these provisions, the specific governs the general.”); John Hancock Mut. Life Ins. Co. v. Carolina Power & Light Co., 717 F.2d 664, 670 n.8 (2d Cir. 1983) (“Where the parties have particularized the terms of a contract an apparently inconsistent general statement to a different effect must yield.”).

    • jetsssuck says:

I expect the 2 ballboys to be reinstated in the next few days and if the NFL refuses to go back to their old positions being allowed to handle game balls then more lawsuits against NFL. I possibly believe we can see a defamation of character against NFL from Brady possibly as soon as end of season or later when statue of limitations end.

  59. Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,
Apparently the embarassment today is not the definition of broad powers that the CBA may give the commissioners office but rather the judge showing that the NFL doesn’t follow procedures such as step one where written notice but be given of a forthcoming suspenion.

  60. Tim Knight says:

Can anyone name the team that doesn’t have a 1st round pick in the 2016 draft?

  61. Mike E. says:

    Tim

What kind of Guards DO we look for? Bench players? 😉

    • Tim Knight says:

Athletic, Jackson is too heavy and doesn’t move well enough to play in our ZBS.

      • Mike E. says:

He’s big, but he can move pretty well. He’s definitely not the prototype ZBS OG, but he’s a quality player, and a quality starter from the get-go, which is more than I can say for most of our draft picks.

  62. The Flying Pig says:

    Al in MIA says:
    September 3, 2015 at 11:32 am (Edit)
    Same.
The owners need to re-evaluate their approach (through Goodell).

    *****************
I think they thought b/c they have a lopsided CBA with the players union they can get away with murder
    They can do whatever
    And they can’t
the reality of this case is its about the fed cts saying, we are going to step into the decision you make, just bc you have a CBA doesn;t mean you can be unfair

Ultimately the flaw for the NFL is how broad Goodells powers were and a lot of people have criticized that in the past
but the response has always been the CBA permits it and that is a negotaiated agreement
So now the fed courts are saying “so what”

    I got to say
if the commisioner just looks at the intial PSI readings after the game and puhishes Brady or the patriots right afterward instead of doing this Tedd Wells investigation song and dance – none of this happens

    I mean Brady might appeal
and then its get reduced at the appeal

    and no one really cares

but instead it ends up being Brady’s rep vs the NFL’s powers

    • Al in MIA says:

That the NFL can’t even follow step 1 “written notice of a suspension” is the biggest embarassment of all (Berman cites that Brady was never given notice of what was coming).

  63. jetsssuck says:

I expect the 2 ballboys to be reinstated in the next few days and if the NFL refuses to go back to their old positions being allowed to handle game balls then more lawsuits against NFL. I possibly believe we can see a defamation of character against NFL from Brady maybe even ball boys possibly as soon as end of season or later before statue of limitations end.

    • The Flying Pig says:

defamation is a tough suit to win

but maybe the facts are there
But if I’m Brady, I just move on, he already won

at some point, some of these legal battles begin to wear on your life/work

I hope this thing is finished
      I’m tired of this story

      • Al in MIA says:

Agree. Part of this push though came at the backing of the NFLPA who pretty much told Brady they were going to fight his fight for him from the get go.

  64. Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,
I doubt Brady would bother with defamation persuit. Expensive and hard to prove. 1. The ruling today wasn’t necessarily about whether Brady was guilty or not but rather that procedures were not followed by the NFL front office in disciplining Tom.

    • Al in MIA says:

Didn’t bother mentioning it, but the judge also explores what the appropriate punishment should be (if any). The degree of punishment does not define whether Brady had some hand in deflating footballs.

      • jetsssuck says:

they had to explore all the facts in the wells report and use some reasoning skills. The Kraft report explained a lot of things that were taken for granted since the Wells report was published by NFL independent group.
The NFL still hasn’t taken any additional measures for game balls before games.

  65. stangerx says:

Pig — even if the NFL blew it and might have gotten too full itself, normal employers still have a lot more leeway to treat their players as they wish in employment at will states at least. A company can just let go the driver of a cement truck that has defective product whether they can actually prove it his fault or not.

    • Al in MIA says:

True but deep pockets go a long way. a cement truck driver can’t put Tom Brady pressure on his employer 😛

    • The Flying Pig says:

Its not just a normal employer and employee situation

its not just employment at will

Its a CBA with a union
so its a lot more beaurocratic than was an employer can do

      • stangerx says:

Yep — it’s union work. Was recently talking to one of my buddies who is a manager at a union place (college food service). He said, “I can’t really order them to do things…..I pretty much have to talk them into it.”

  66. Tim Knight says:

Mike E, we were a much better offense both rushing and passing than the Raiders so the jury is still out at just how good Jackson is. We also have a rookie starting this year so why rag on them?

    • Mike E. says:

It does appear as if a rookie (Douglas) is going to start, but we don’t know how good he’ll be. Jeckson was a good player from the start as a rookie. Hopefully Douglas will be too.

  67. Try Pod says:

I knew someone on this blog would be happy after the release of today’s ruling. Party on, Garth.

  68. finfanrob says:

who was that ass-wipe on here who kept saying brady would get away with no punishment. oh that is right that was me. fuck the nfl. they just proved they are a fraudulent league.

  73. finfanrob says:

    tim,

first i am not or never said the nfl reversed anything. so dont start making shit up i didnt say.

i am not ignoring what the nfl did. i am stating a fact. brady isnt suspended. if it got over turned cause the nfl mishandled it, then even more of the farce that they are for not handling a known cheater correctly.

    Thanks Jeff (Twice)
    🙂

  75. Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,
Berman doesn’t mention anything about the science of deflate gate or whether spygate existed or not but rather he gets to the facts that the CBA has rules for suspending players under “conduct detrimental” language and that the NFL loosely applied it’s definition and moreover did not follow protocol (written notice, access to information, etc) thus invalidating the whole thing based on legal deficiencies.

    • jetsssuck says:

yes Goodell did go overboard in his authority the question I have is why didn’t the NFL fill the 3 balls from the colts were underinflated as measured .during halftime. Then why was the colts not punished because they measured a football that was measured by colt personnel after interception.
People have phone rights and every one is protected and authorities have to get warrants.

I don’t want the cheats to okay the victim all year

      • Tim Knight says:

Yeah I stopped caring weeks ago anyway. But I don’t care about the victim thing, that’s just fans and pundits who lick Patriot nads. LOL

    • jetsssuck says:

I’m happy because I invested time in reading the wells report and concluded the report didn’t make sense and a innocent man was being charged for doing nothing wrong. This is a victory for labor and being that labor day is close its a victory for all.

No proof of innocence- there’s just no proof of guilt, except the circumstantial evidence of him destroying the phone and the patriots during the ball boys- oops, I mean reassigning them.

      • The Flying Pig says:

Its definately a victory for labor

but fundamentally, when a CBA agreement is reached between 2 parties that are sophisticated and have $$$, I do not agree with Fed Cts disturbing findings met pursuant to CBA

Even if the NFL doesn’t appeal, we’ll still be picking one spot earlier in the 2nd round.
And who knows……maybe even in the first. 🙂

  79. Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,
In NO part of Berman’s conclusion were the facts of the Ted Wells report used as a determinant for reversing the Tom Brady suspension so don’t bother mentioning them as if they had anything to do with what the judge did today (because it had ZERO bearing on his decision).

    • jetsssuck says:

the fact the NFL didn’t budge show how confident they were with punishment. The judge criticized the NFL throughout the hearings but the nfl thought they were above the rights of cba players and rights. They were very arrogant,

Okay FFR, look at it however you want. Don’t take your anger out on me.

sorry, but i didnt take anything out on you. very sorry i defended myself about what i said. your right, i should let you just say things i didnt say and not respond to them. silly me to correct you.

got to say though, i do love how you can always interrupt emotion from a black and white post. hell i dont even add emoticons but you know my emotion.

    • Tim Knight says:

they just proved they are a fraudulent league.

      ^inaccurate

Blame the judge. The NFL did suspend him, a judge overturned it. The NFL also took away their 2016 1st round pick and a 2017 4th rd pick.

By the way your responses clearly show you’re annoyed even though you don’t want to admit it. LOL

  84. finfanrob says:

    tim,

the nfl mishandled a cheater. that is on them. they should have made damn sure how they handled it it wouldnt get over turned.

the pats paid a punishment, not brady.

and annoyed yes, but you said i was angry. i am not, annoyed that they let a cheater get away with cheating.

  85. finfanrob says:

and if the nfl had any guts, they would keep fighting this. but they wont, they will roll over and let brady get away with it.

  86. Try Pod says:

I said it many times before, but..
I never really cared about deflate-gate. I thought, in-and-of- itself, it was a minor thing. I thought some here were taking things a bit far, but we are fans- that’s what fans do. To me, this whole case was really a referendum on the “patriot way”. Goodell listened to the anger of some around the league and decided New England needed to be confronted. He lost this battle. I think he lost Kraft but may have gained more support league-wide for doing this.

    • Tim Knight says:

A majority of owners backed and influenced Goodell in this. People tend to always point to Goodell but let’s not forget who the master of puppets are in the big scheme of things. Many owners were tired of the Pats’ shenanigans.

  87. Al in MIA says:

Hot off the press, the NFL doesn’t agree with the decision and will appeal (SMH)

    • Al in MIA says:

Code for Jerry Jones and Bob McNair want to fight the NFLPA.

    • The Flying Pig says:

They better get there shit together and put up a good argument as to why the fed Cot should not disturb the decision made under the CBA

Its not a great position for the NFL to be in

basically there best argument is – don;t look at the facts of this case, look at the law which says generally you don;t disturb CBA decision

Meanwhile the Patriots will continue to scrutinize all the findings of the wells report and everything the NFL did publicly

    • Try Pod says:

I kinda think they have to- Berman seems to have said that a cba signed and agreed upon by 2 parties is worth less than the paper it was written on. Goodell probably has to ride this storm out through to the end. It’s kind of a referendum on him, now.

      • The Flying Pig says:

On one hand – I’m just tired of the story
and now the patriots get to play victim all season

On the other hand, I agree with you
If you don;t appeal something like this you say – going forward if you don;t like what the league does, go to Fed Ct

I really think the right thing for J Berman to do was to throw the appeal to the fed ct out and then the expectation for the players should be to the NFPLA, do a btter job with the CBA – its not like the issue with how much power the commish has did not come up when it was recently negotiated

the NFLPA just didn;t see the fight through. So now they can go to Fed Ct and undo that…that’s kinda bs

      • Try Pod says:

Well, with a lot less education than you on the subject, I agree lol

  88. CavalierKong says:

Congrats, Jetsssuck. You guys will have your QB for the season unless the NFL somehow wins on appeal.

The way I see it If we’re going to dethrone you guys, I’d rather do it with your team intact rather than give Pets fans the “no Brady” excuse so in one sense I’m happy, and the Pets did get clobbered with the loss of picks and fine so there was punishment.

On the other hand we’d obviously have a better chance of taking the division with Brady out and I do want a division win!

    • jetsssuck says:

how come you are congratulating me about ruling? I followed case and gave a opinion of what I thought was correct. I don’t like the pats but I believe in treating people fairly even if means my team will be at a disadvantage. Maybe some on here want any advantage that will help there team rightly or wrongly. I rather beat the patriots fairly and by the way my family has had ticketss since 68

      • CavalierKong says:

So you believe Brady and the Patriots did nothing wrong and are just constantly accused of cheating because of their success?

      • CavalierKong says:

I don’t want an advantage regardless of right or wrong. I think the Pets constantly cheat and get away with it. I believe the Wells report is flawed and the NFL was incompetent in their handling of the balls at halftime but I also believe there is enough evidence of systematic cheating by the Pets and I’m tired of them flaunting the rules and getting away with it.

      • jetsssuck says:

I don’t know what systematic cheating you are talking about but if they are proven to be true then I would want them to charged to the fullest extent as I would us to be charged.

    • CavalierKong says:

How about my original question? Do you think Brady and the Patriots did nothing wrong and that “The deflator” really was just a term defining weight loss?

  89. Al in MIA says:

    12:20 p.m.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says the league will appeal a federal judge’s ruling striking down Tom Brady’s four-game suspension in “Deflategate.”

Goodell said in a statement Thursday that it’s paramount to protect the integrity of the game and his office’s responsibilities under the collective bargaining agreement with players.

    —AP

  90. Al in MIA says:

No way Goodell keeps pushing this unless the owners (Jerry Jones & Bob McNair among them who have been vocal during the process and have had negative words for the Patriots demeanor) are behind this push (much like the NFLPA behind the Brady court push).
