Q – Hey Mike E: Welcome to the 50th anniversary season of Your Miami Dolphins !!!
I love the way the FO went about their business this off season, adding the NDominant One , DE-Tooling the WR position , and the Nuggetts of LB they found as UDFA..
My question is regarding WR.. Kenny Stills has been quiet, and I believe hamstrung in PS.. I have read reports of Matthews passing him in the pecking order.. do you see him being a strong contributor this season, or a small time player ??
Tanx.
I’d be surprised if Kenny Stills isn’t a big part of our offense, at least as far as being on the field a lot. I don’t think in our offense we need to rely on any one player, but Stills should be starting, and getting opportunities. I believe that he and Greg Jennings, and Jarvis Landry will be on the field a lot in 3 and 4 WR sets. It will be a while before Devante Parker hits his stride here and is ready to steal a lot of reps from anyone, and depending on how Jennings and Stills play, Parker may never seriously eat into either of their reps if they’re both playing well.
There is no rush to get Parker on the field, unless the offense, particularly Jennings and/or Stills just aren’t getting it done, and like you mentioned, I think the veteran Rishard Matthews would get more reps early if that happened. The one thing Matthews has in his back pocket, is the fact that QB Ryan Tannehill likes him. That means a lot, and will definitely keep him him on the roster as long as he remains in Tannehill’s favor.

Q – Toughest Q I can think of — Which WR on this team gets the most fantasy points this year?
That’s the combination of most yards and TDs (standard league — six points per TD and one point for every 10 yards).
stanger
I’d have to say that it will be Jarvis Landry. I think he’s going to see a lot of touches as he always seems to find a way to get open, and he’s a very sure handed receiver. I also think he’s the one constant in the lineup, whereas the other guys will be in and out, specifically if/when Parker is healthy and ready to go, he may sub in occasionally for both Stills and Jennings.
If Parker wasn’t injured and had a full training camp, my answer may have been different, but I expect another big year from Landry. He and Tanny have a good chemistry, and Landry is a sure handed 3rd down target who always fights for extra yards, and will convert those 3rd downs to first down. I think there’s an outside chance that Jennings does it, maybe he has more in the tank than most people think. He’s a savvy vet who’s always been a precise route runner and has always possessed great hands, so he’d be my second choice.

Q -Hey Axe Mike,
What rookies do you see making an immediate impact, playing the most, and why, including those on Special Teams & the UDFA’s.
Thanks,
GetterDone Phins!
I’ll go in order of which players I see making the most impact. If it’s true, that Jamil Douglas will be the starting RG, that certainly puts him in a good position to make an impact. It remains to be seen as to whether he stays there, and earns his playing time, but for now, he appears to have a leg up on 2nd year man Billy Turner.
It’s funny, if you had asked me this question right after the draft, my answer would have been Jay Ajayi, or Devante Parker. Both have missed substantial practice time, and for a rookie, that’s a bad thing. Both of those players have a chance, more Likely Parker than Ajayi at the moment, because Ajayi has to get healthy and make the roster.
After the surprise hammer fell on Brandon Fields, Matt Dar is also in place to make a big impact. If he can be as good as Fields used to be for the Miami Dolphins, not the Fields of last year, he can be big for our team, and help us win the “Fields” position battle.
On defense, Jordan Phillips will be in the D-line rotation, although he’s behind 2 pretty damn good players, Ndamukong Suh, and Earl Mitchell, so his reps will have to be well earned. Zach Vigil is another guy who I think may make an impact. If Chris McCain doesn’t start balling, I think it’s possible that Kelvin Sheppard starts at MLB, with Misi sliding back into the SLB position. Vigil will be backing up at both MLB and SLB, and if he continues to show well, I think Vigil is a guy we may see on the field a lot, both on ST’s and at LB.
Some of the rookies I hope make the team are CB Tony Lippett and S Cedric Thompson. I think good ol’ Bobby McCain will be on the roster, but Ced and Tony are more on the bubble. I think Lippett could be a real impact player if he really takes to learning his craft as a CB, and may really help us next year.

Q – Who’s your break out player on offense and defense and why?
Also what’s your favorite shoe?
Thanks you!
I think Dion Sims can have a real good season. I expect him to be on the field a lot this year, but I’m not sure if he’ll really have a lot more than the 24 catches he had last season. He may make his impact in-line blocking as a TE, and helping our RB’s get some clear running lanes. Another I think may have a bigger season than some expect is Greg Jennings. He’s a solid vet, and I know most think he’s past his prime, but if needed, I think he can make a nice contribution to our team, although I’m not sure if you would consider it a “breakout” season or not, maybe breaking out of a retirement home, or something like that.
On defense, I’d love to see Jamar Taylor finally break out. Hopefully he can shrug off the injuries, and get down to playing some good CB for us, and finally show us what he’s capable of. That INT against the Falcons was played perfectly, and I hope to see more of those in the regular season.
As far as shoes goes, in my “Saturday Night Fever” days, no Brooklyn guy who went clubbing (dancing) didn’t have a nice pair of Capezios. Those days are over though, and I prefer a good pair of Sperry Topsiders, or an equivalent shoe like that.

Q – After 3 preseason games what do you think is the biggest weakness on the
Dolphins?
– Pigsgerald
I’d say, as it will be be for many NFL teams, the depth after our starters. Our 2nd and 3rd team players, and especially the guys who will not make the 53 man roster have struggled big time.
But . . .
When we go up against the better defenses, like our division rival Bills and Jets, I do fear how our O-line will fare. We’ve played 2 weak defenses so far, but when we play a team a serious front 7, and Albert isn’t either at 100%, or even in the lineup, and we have Fox or Thomas at LT, and then Thomas at LG (with Fox at LT), maybe Pouncey isn’t 100%, and then rookie Jamil Douglas at RG, and solid 2nd year man Ju’Wuan James at RT, it could get ugly . . . FAST! We haven’t seen the O-line struggle, or even falter really, but i that’s partly due to the level of defensive opponents we’ve faced. If we played STL, or ARZ, or HOU or BUF or NYJ, I think we would have seen more weaknesses on the O-line.
For now though, to answer your question more accurately, I’d say the depth in the secondary has been pretty awful.

from Wyo
Q – I don’t think CJ Mosely makes the 53 and we go young ( Seems to be the theme ).
What are your thoughts on the DT Spots?
Suh
Mitchell
Phillips
?
??
I’m not sure Wyo. I think there’s a pretty good chance Mosley sticks. I think Mosley makes it over AJ Francis and Deandre Coleman. I think it comes down to how many DT’s we carry. Suh and Mitchell are the starters, with Anthony Johnson and Jordan Phillips as 2nd team. If we carry 4, Mosley is gone, but if we carry 5, I think Mosley is in. I think Anthony Johnson has too much talent to let him go.

from O Rob
Q – Mike, what are the chances Josh Freeman unseats Matt Moore?
I don’t see that happening Rob. I thought when we first signed Freeman there was a decent chance that it could happen, but watching Freeman in the Preseason games, he’s been pretty awful. Not that Matt Moore has been stellar, but you know what Matt Moore gives you as a Dolphins QB, whereas Freeman doesn’t know the offense as well, and still looks shaky back there. Freeman has completed less that 40% of his passes, though both QB’s have only 1 TD against 2 INT’s.
My best guess Rob is that we go with the known quantity, which is Moore. If Freeman made a little noise in the Preseason, and actually outplayed Moore, I would say he had a shot, but that just hasn’t happened. Freeman may have one more shot, but I think it’s going to be Moore.

http://deadspin.com/tom-bradys-angry-dad-calls-radio-show-calls-roger-good-1728882072
brady’s dad is handling the dirty laundry
Yay- more Brady love!
Brady’s response yesterday didn’t mention Goodell or Wells report but his father’s response is over the top in calling goodell a flaming liar. There is bad blood and it could end up in court with a defamation lawsuit plus we have the NFL appeal. This may end up in the supreme court when all is done.
I doubt it ends up in sup ct
It will take about a decade to get there
You don’t got to sup ct as a matter if right (unlike other appeals) you have to apply
And the sup court grants “cert” to a very small % of applicants
Not sure how long the fed appeal takes
But I’m guessing months
Maybe the whole nfl season
I don’t expect the SCOTUS to see this case. I do expect labor vs management Union lawyers to have a field day throughout this situation and it to last through the current season maybe even through next season with appeals and injunctions. Then we can see civil lawsuits before statue of limitations expire.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME if the Fins kept “LaMike”, Gillislee, and/or Ajayi?? –Local Tampa outlets showing NO news about Fins’ cuts!!!
See above^
Nothing yet OD. We are all waiting on the final cuts.
Be surprised if ajayi is anything but on the roster, albeit perhaps on pup.
Morning drive by is over. BBL today. Peace
Later Ken. Have a great weekend.

Good move by seahawks
Yeah
I agree
Upgrade from Christine Michael who has zero wok ethic
On the Ferry to fire island now
It’s packed I’m staying the night
WEEEEEeeeeee
Should be a good time
Anybody thinking Brady destroyed his phone to hide some stuff he did not want Giselle to see?
Maybe
I heard there were marital issues
To me the ideal scenario would be for us to beat the *patsies twice this year because we score a lot and don’t give up anything much on defense and because they have a mediocre defense and not enough skills guys on offense to make up for it but Brady is not the problem but we win the AFCE and they finish 3rd behind Buffalo … then next year we all 3 do that again and then Brady begins to enter a two year decline and exit … That way the weenie pats fans can’t say deflategate caused Brady’s early demise and it was just not fair
I don’t really care if he is suspended or not for football reasons
But in principal, I have a problem with the idea he did nothing wrong
gonna be interesting with the extra point—I remember the seahawks had a guy who could jump over center then land and jump up again who always came close to blocking extra point. This guy will have 4-5 tries to get his timing down with offsides penalties.
Did they make jumping over the line illegal?
I don’t know but the seahawks did it a lot last yr in the playoffs.
It will be illegal for a defensive player to jump or stand on any player, or be picked up by a teammate or to use a hand or hands on a teammate to gain additional height in an attempt to block a kick (Penalty: 15 yards, unsportsmanlike conduct). http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/kicksfromscrimmage

Morning drive by is over. BBL today. Peace
We should bring Parker along slowly, put him in, in the red zone, and big 3rd downs against the ‘Skins. I noticed his blocking prowess against TB, his first run block the CB was pissed, because the rook got the best of him.
No rush on Parker
I’m guessing Jennings, Landry and Stills will play a lot early in the season
And Matthews too
But I really want to work Parker in late in the year

So we’re going with 2 TEs? That’s interesting. Hazel is still on the team so are the 5 rbs.
I thought stoneburner was cut but I guess not yet. Jackson has him as a cut in his article.
Is TE Robinson still on the team?
Nope cut yesterday
he was cut last week
Wow, Tripp and Stoneburner. Who’s left at TE, Cameron and Sims? WTF

Still 1 more cut to be accounted for (more if Fins claim anyone), but at moment, Dolphins have 7 LBs:starters,McCain,Vigil,Hewitt,Paysinger
Paysinger maybe. Or a DL. Must have a ton of them left still
Has anyone noticed Louisville’s uniforms? I have never seen a uniform that screams “ghetto” louder. They make 22″ spinners look as conservative as GDP by comparison.

WOW, Jordan Tripp???? Say it isn’t so….SMH!

Will Davis survives
So far!
So hewitt made it? And we kept only 2 TEs? I think that’ll change
Hazel, vigil, paysinger all made it.
Ya figure gills to PS ??
I was hoping Davis would stick. He has talent and just needs to put it together. I hope we don’t regret Sturgis but usually these decisions seem to work out. Carpenter might have been decent the last couple but he was not a stud.
Carpenter has earned his salary against us since he left. Bastard
I think Robinson (TE) makes the team right?
Surprise I guess
Already cut
Tripp is a surprise cut
Agree there.
going through and counting who won the challenge. So far it’s Rock. Please go through it as well and make sure I counted correctly.

Do i get extra credit for listing Shelby twice ??
LOL. sorry it counts only once.
Did Lippet make the squad? Who else besides Tripp did I miss on?
I counted the number of correct calls. so not sure. thompson maybe? and you missed paysinger.
ok first count rock won with 49. Naples was 2nd with 48. These could change if I made a mistake counting.
sturgis & Thompson & Tripp
fields
Walton semich
on offense you missed on semich, and walton
Who else?
actually you’re at 47. I mis counted.
I am pisssed that we cut Gillislee. I think he has much more pop and burst than James.
you’re at 47 also after recount can you check it as well. thanks 🙂
I think he willbe back.
I think we are hunting for a TE from another team’s cuts. I am guessing either Hewitt or James would get cut to make room.
Did McClendon make the 53? I guess he is the back-up center.
I also missed whether Kovacs and Don Jones got cut.
Did not see either cut. Did we keep 3qb? Or did i miss him getting cut?
Soooooooo what did I win?? Except the right to do this
WAIVED:
WR Damarr Aultman

“Veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne requested to be released by the Patriots after less than two weeks with the team, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “
if the count is right mike e, rock, naples all had 47 correct. There is a few 46s.
I should get 10 extra points for my bacon be free comment
Terminated Freeman’s contract sounds worse than waiving him
When that happens do they kick him in the ass on the way out of the facility?
Since he is a vested veteran his status is different.
We kept a lot of CBs and 5 DTs
Tebow was cut.
5 DTs?
Who did we keep
Suh, Mosley, Mitchell, Phillips and Francis?
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=055wFyO6gag#
Hewitt made the team?
I barely noticed him
I am glad we kept Mosley…he has chemistry with Suh. Also am happy for AJ. I think every team needs an offbeat character with a good sense of humor but who still is well liked, not an asshole prankster who annoys people and breaks their concentration. Francis Keeps guys loose when things get rough.
HOWEVER, he could get cut tomorrow.
Hewitt has excellent cover skills; he’s like a giant safety. (He’s not safe yet either though.)
Had a couple big hits as well
Tyler Varga cut from colts
no thanks
Bubble guys who have made it so far (Tannenbaum said on TV that there would be a couple more cuts after he finds some guys he wants that’re cut from other teams.) IMHO (do we need a 3rd TE?)
Kovacs
Francis
Hewitt
Bowman
James
McClendon
Mosley
Paysinger
Vigil

Vigil
Hewitt
It would not have mDe a difference to me
Sam Brenner is also a surprise
TULSA-21, FLORIDA ATLANTIC-17 at the half. It’s been a wide-open rock ’em, sock ’em game with plenty of big plays!! – -Refs have called 7 penalties for nearly 100 yards against FAU, one of which negated an FAU touchdown, another set up a Tulsa TD. At least 2 of the 7 were flat-out blown calls!! TULSA’s new fast-break offense is really something to see!! It was 96 degrees at kick-off with 64% humidity!! New head coach for Tulsa was Baylor’s offensive coordinator for the last several years, including the RG3 era. —Can’t wait for the 2nd half!! It’s on DIRECTV Channel 221.
Brenner works hard on the field and in the weightroom, but he really has no talent.
Texas Tech and Sam Houston have 73 points at halftime.
The roster cuts to the 53-player limit were not kind to recent fifth-round picks.
In addition to Sturgis, three other recent fifth-round picks were waived: safety Cedric Thompson (2015 draft), linebacker Jordan Tripp (2014) and running back Mike Gillislee (2013).
We kept 11 DBs even after cutting Ced Thompson.
But only 4 safeties
I don’t quite understand kovscs over Thompson
But if Thompson is in the PS, it doesn’t matte r
I agree 100%, but maybe the ST coach begged for some continuity although seems to me Ced showed up well on STs in the PS games.
FAU’s Jay Warren scores on the 3rd play of the second half on a 38-yard run and FAU, who once trailed by 14, now LEADS 24-21!!
Go Owls.
(They scored again.)
FAU recovers a fumble, converts a 4th down, and scores another touchdown!! It’s now 31-21 FAU!! They’ve scored 24 unanswered points!!
Lmao
Dolfans are great.
TULSA SCORES A TOUCHDOWN!! – – A few plays later, on 4th and goal, FAU SCORES A TOUCHDOWN!! –It’s now 38-28 FAU, and Owls’ QB Jacquez Johnson is playing out of his mind!!! FAU has scored 21 points in the 3rd quarter, and there’s still over 5 minutes left!!
The SeaHags traded for KC Safety Kelsie McCray who played a little bit for us for a couple years. Desperate to cover till they figure out how to pay Kam Chancellor.
The Patsies* cut Jonas Gray who ran for over 200 yds in a game for them but pissed BB off for being late. I liked Gray when we had him.
If this roster holds , it looks like we will be playing CBs in our nickel and dime pkgs, since we only kept 4 Safeties, one of whom is Kovacs who i do NOT think they will trust on the field covering any teams 1’s.
If this roster holds what positions do you think the fins are going to draft next yr
Let’s see who plays well for us in the Super Bowl this year first JS.
