Welcome to Ask Mike – 2015 Season Week 4

Q – Ciao Mike E
Very sombre mood in Finsland after last Sunday.
Can we bounce back like last year, or should I just put our 2 tickets for Wembley in the trash, save on a tank of gas and give my bro a refund/write off the $160?
Cheers
UK

Sure we can rebound UK, but I don’t think we will. I have seen absolutely nothing from this team in the last 3 games that makes me think this team is ready to do anything good. I can’t even precisely point to any one unit and say this unit is now ready to make a statement. Opposing OC’s seem to have figured out our weaknesses on defenses, and have exploited  it time and time again. Let’s face it, our secondary sucks. Besides Reshad Jones, and Brent Grimes, there’s just no proven talent out there. Brice McCain (who should be a nickel corner) is starting, and Jamar Taylor (who can’t win a starting job is at nickel), and sometimes Zack Bowman is at nickel or dime, along with rookie Bobby McCain. To make things worse, we line these DB’s 10 yards off the LOS, and teams are still beating them mostly in front of them, and yet still have gotten behind them. Add into the equation that our front 7 have gotten zero pressure on opposing QB’s, that’s a recipe for disaster. No changes have been made anywhere, no blitz packages, no moving players around, just straight up ineffectiveness, week after week.

When I look at our offense, the problem starts up front. I know folks are down on Tannehill, I’m not one of them. The five guys we have blocking up front aren’t getting it done. As I expected, Brandon Albert isn’t physically ready. He tried, I don’t blame him, I blame the damn GM’s, HC’s, OC’s who counted on him to be ready. They rushed and rushed him, but when you go out and play with an injured leg, other injuries occur. Maybe if they let him heal, we could have him back healthy for the 2nd half, although I fear it will be too late by then. This is what happens when Jason Fox is your #1 and #2 backup plan. Shame on them!

The O-line can’t run block, and Lazor gets queasy just thinking about running behind this line of Fox, Thomas, Pouncey, Douglas and James. It seems like Ju’Wuan James has taken a step backwards, and maybe that’s because rookie G Jamil Douglas isn’t handling his job, or maybe he’s just not playing well either. My guess is the former, because he was lights out our best OL last year. Unfortunately, they don’t pass protect any better, and Tannehill has been under duress far too often. Could Tannehill deal with the pressure better, sure, but he hasn’t. he sometimes seems slow to see the pressure, and then it’s too late. It’s not one of his better qualities, although with his athleticism, you’d think escapability would be.

We didn’t really upgrade at LB, and as I’ve always said, Misi while a good tackler just isn’t a playmaker, whether at ILB or OLB. Jenkins is a good young LB, but he’s still learning. Sheppard has been a disappointment. I expected better, but we’ve gotten worse. The D-line, obviously upgraded by Suh, along with Mitchell, Wake and Vernon was supposed to be our rock. It’s been a small pebble instead. This is the one unit I really think is capable of turning things around, but unless they get healthy, and Coyle is willing to change some things up and move people around a little, and try and find better matchups, it probably won’t.

Keep your tickets bother, this is the NFL, and anything can happen any given Sunday, and Wembley Stadium looks really nice, even though there’s no tailgating. The restaurants look nice, and they serve beer if you need to cry in one. Hopefully I’m 100% wrong, and the someone lights a fire under their asses this week, and we go out and demolish the Jets, and make us all feel great!

Enjoy the game UK, REPRESENT!!!

Q – Come take a flight with me into the clouds..

Imagine:
Dolphins beat Jests this week
Then Dolphins fire Philbin and his coordinators anyway

Dolphins hire
Dan Marino as Head Coach
Zach Thomas as DC
Gary Stevens as OC (why not?)

Dolphins finish the reg season 14-2
In the AFC Championship, Dolphins shut out the Patriots to win by a score of 72-0 honoring the ’72 undefeated team by score

Then in the Super Bowl we play a close one against the Packers.
Jason Taylor, who came out of retirement for the game, sacks Aaron Rogers on 3rd down late in the 4th qtr

On the Packers punt, Reggie Roby, the new special teams coach, is able to pin point where the punt is expected to land – Jarvis Landry has a good return as a result

Depleted by injuries Marino, Thomas and even Gary Stevens suit up

Marino sets up a game winning drive and gets us in FG position

With 3 seconds to go Pete Stoyanovich kicks a FG which bounces off Garo Yepremian’s tombstone and through the uprights

It is referred to as the ugliest FG in Super Bowl history

– again Garo!!!

We win
Dan Mario finally hoists the trophy and after the game

A week after the Super Bowl it is confirmed that all game balls throughout the post season were properly inflated but the patriots laced their gatorade with elephant steroids

Okay now the question:
Will this happen and why not?

Oinks,

Pigsgerald

Everything here can happen up until Reggie Roby being the Special Teams Coach, he’s passed on (2005), may he rest in peace. BTW – You had me at “Fire Philbin and his coordinators”

It’s funny, Son wants Ray Lewis to be our HC, which is fine, I can’t think of a more passionate player, who would be an excellent motivator. What about our own Zach Thomas? Another player who lived in the film room, and was always known to be one of the most instinctive players in the league, and a career overachiever, who never listened to what other people thought his limitations were. I’d look to Zach as a coach, and not HC quite yet, he’d have to prove himself as a LB’s coach and work his way up, which I believe is the proper way to go about it.

OK, back to your question. No, I don’t think it’s possible, I don’t think there is any such thing as elephant steroids.

Q – Mike,

Why do dolphin fans continue to buy into the hype year after miserable year? Wouldn’t it be more prudent to wait to see some tangible results before investing in the fragile sunshine & lollipops market? Is this a flaw that can be corrected or are some fans addicted to hope for hopes sake? Or is this a twisted form of masochism? I’ll hang up and listen to your answer.

 Mr. B. L. Zebub

Bonus Question … Can you explain to me, a football novice, the benefits of playing the DB’s 10 yards off the receivers on third and 5?

To answer the first part of the question, it’s a phenomenon that happens league wide, in just about every sport. Every new season brings hope of better things, because there has to be hope. Human nature seeks out hope, and when a shiny new season starts with some shiny new players, especially $100M players like Suh, fans hope springs eternal. I can’t argue that is does seem masochistic in a sense, because when you allow yourself to hope for good things for this team, there is the inevitable pain, anger and shame that comes with the letdown that once again our team failed and didn’t make the playoffs.

I have a feeling that this years failure starts earlier than usual, and that may allow some of us to seek enjoyment elsewhere. I really do feel that the seams are coming apart, and I also feel that we will lose to the Jets this week, which really puts us behind the 8-ball. Very few teams make the playoffs after starting 1-3. Between 1990-2008, 21 teams made the playoffs after starting out 1-3. 7 of them lost WC playoff games, other went to divisional playoffs, and one (2001 New England Cheatriots) won the Super Bowl. I just can’t see a Joe Philbin team going that far, I really can’t.

BONUS QUESTION! The advantage is that it’s such an asinine strategy, that we can never actually blame the DB, because he’s only doing what he’s told. I truly despise it, and I think Coyle should be fired just for employing it. The worst part of it, is that WR’s are STILL getting behind our DB’s occasionally, and that shouldn’t even be possible. The 2016 draft should be fun for us. We need a LT, LB’s, CB’s, OG, RB, S, FB (After Philbin is fired and we finally decide we actually need a FB to run the ball).

Q – Dear Mike E,
Why have we been sucking so bad for so long? When did it start? What will it take to end it?

It started back in 2004, when we went 4-12. We did manage to turn it around a bit in ’06, going 9-7, but then we fell back to reality and went 6-10 in ’05, the prelude to Cam Cameron’s “Fail Forward” season of 1-15. Then Herd’s Hero, Chad Pennington led us to 11-5, and the playoffs, but all we know what happened when we got there, it was ugly. Then the Trifecta went comfortably to where they belonged, 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, and then we hired “Queasy Joe”, who managed to equal the Trifecta by going 7-9, and then to full mediocrity, 8-8, 8-8. So there’s your recent Dolphins history for ya, seems like we’re paying for having Dan the Man for 17 seasons.

As to what will it take to end it? Get a good coach in here. Either a good young hungry successful college coach, or see if maybe one of the guys who have been out a while want to once again join the ranks of the NFL, like Brian Billick, Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden. I tend to think those guys are comfortable where they’re at, so I doubt that.

What I’d like most to do, is bring in Jim Harbaugh. I know he wouldn’t come this season, and maybe not even next season, but maybe he’ll hunger once again to be in the NFL, and if we’re still wallowing in mediocrity at that point, I’d give him the ranch to come here, and I think Stephen Ross would do the same. That guy can flat out coach, like his brother. We’ll all see what we’ve been missing with guys like Joe Philbin, Tony Sparano and Cam Cameron.

from DGDP

Q – Dear Mikey,
Do you think we’ll see any significant changes in play calling this week on both sides of the ball?
And if so, what significant changes would you as an astute fan, like to see or think we’ll see?

Yours truly,

Disgruntled GetterDone
You would think so, but I have a feeling, for the most part, we stay with what we’ve been doing. I think Coyle and Lazor, are both guys who believe in their systems (to a fault), and will stay status quo, with maybe a couple of wrinkles. Maybe we have a couple of fakes in order to try and shake things up, but I think scheme wise, we won’t alter from what we’re doing.

What I’d like to see is is trying to move guys around to change up the opposing O-lines responsibility. I’d like to see more disguised blitzes. Hell, we haven’t put any damn pressure on the opposing QB, and we’ve played the Redskins, The Floodgates – I mean the Jaguars, who send out invitations to opposing defenders to meet the QB in the backfield, and the Bills. NO PRESSURE! NONE! I’d love to see the CB’s play their guy at the LOS, and not back off 10 yards. I’d love to see Lazor make a commitment to run the ball, even if it doesn’t work immediately. It looks like SIms is going to be out, so that hurts the run game some, but the 5 guys on the O-line need to get nasty. I want to less of Wake, especially if he’s ailing and/or ineffective. I’d love to see McCain (Chris) break out and get a couple of sacks. Let’s blitz a little, and let’s send guys who have the ability to get there. Maybe Reshad Jones, he’s a pretty solid blitzer, even Brent Grimes has done it.

Most of all, what I’d like to see different is this team SHOW SOME DAMN HEART! GO DOLPHINS!!!

Good job Mike! I couldn’t agree more on your answer for UK. This team has done nothing in the first three games to make me believe we can turn it around either. WE barely escaped @ Wash, were embarassed by a supposedly inferior Jax team, and then were blown out by the only good team we have faced. If we do indeed lose to the Jets then this season is over IMO.

Thank you for answering my question. I have been thinking more about what event in particular started the slide to mediocrity. Was it Huizenga buying the team? The firing of Shula? The hiring of Jimmy? The way Marino’s tenure was ended? Wandstedt? I know different people will have different answers, but all I can say is that the certainty we used to have of our ability to be consistently competitive with any other team FOR ME ended sometime between 62-7 and the C. H. E.

C.H.E. is that the Chad Henne era (oh shit I used that word)?

Even though that was a bad (horrific) loss at least it was in the playoffs. Our perennial playoff status retired with Dan.

  34. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

what happened to my question mike?

  35. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

will Joe Philbin get a plane ticket home?

  36. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we had 65 plays from scrimmage, 49 were passes 16 were rushes, that is an unbalanced attack, and the reason for this unbalanced attack is the lack of ability with run blocking schemes, lack of talent on the OL and at RB. gray looked better than Miller.

simply put the running game doesn’t work so we resort to the dink and dunk

due to this unbalanced attack we again lost the Time of Possession Battle,

in the first Quarter they had the ball for 11:17 we had the ball for 3:43
the second Quarter they had the ball for 8:04 we had the ball for 6:56

so you figure in the 1st half they had the ball 20 minutes and we had it ten minutes, couple that with 3 turnovers!
we were down 27-0 at half the game was over at that point.

they scored 13 points off of us in the 1st half off turnovers (interceptions)

we went 3 and out on the 1st drive, we got 1 first down then went 3 and out on the 2nd drive. the next few drives resulted in turnovers

true our D gave up 2 long drives in the first quarter but then they held.

Miami’s offense had 8 possessions in the first half and could not sustain a drive, we had 3 turnovers one of which was returned for a TD and the other two the defense held its ground only giving up FG’s

So I ask you who’s fault is that the Offense or the Defense?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

      The HC

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

My answer is the defense. When you give up 14 points out of the gate on 2 long drives you put so much additional pressure on the offense that mistakes are likely to happen. When you keep the ball out of the offense’s hands for over 11 minutes of the first quarter it is hard for the offense to find any rhythmn

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I hear you Ken but we had the ball first, the best Defense is a good offense, we went 3 and out, down 7 we get the ball back and still give it right back to them

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Not to mention the Bills offense had scoring opportunities on 7 of 10 drives, scored 20 points in the first half against our D and 14 in the second for a total of 34. Both sides of the ball really stunk, not just the O.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

        ORob:
I am not giving the O a pass on how they played but 1 3 and out series does not negate 2 sustained long drives with piss poor tackling and a horrific coverage scheme. What it did was put us in a situation that played to the Bill’s strength which is rush the passer. Down by 14 we needed point and had to pass. Bills could pin their ears back and come after the QB. What’s our weakness: Protecting the QB. The D’s failure early in the game played right into the Bill’s strength and our weakness. It was a recipe for disaster. And again I am not giving the O a pass. They played poorly too.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Kong 6 of those points were off offensive turnovers, the game was over at half so whatever happened in the 2nd half is moot IMO.
playing from behind like that with an insurmountable lead affects the D

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Just one other thing on the D as well we were playing against Tyrod Fucking Taylor not Brady, not Brees, not Rodgers and we made Taylor look like a stud. He is not. He blows. Watch what the Pats did too him the week before. No reason why we couldn’t do the same.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Valid points, Rob. But the D didn’t do anything to help themselves. We were down 14 points before I had even drank enough to feel a buzz. Believe me when I tell you that is fast! lol

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I think Ross had most the input on Joes Staff.

we need a coach to tell Ross to go be an owner and let me choose my staff

  37. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    I’ll answer!
This is how Philbin prefers to travel

  38. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    New poll up

  39. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Rob,
I understand your point that the offense could have helped the D. It’s true, but I think it goes both ways. Neither side of the ball gave the other any help. If our O had scored right away, maybe the game turns right from the start. Same thing when the Bills got the ball. If the D had held on that first drive instead of letting the Bills score without breaking a sweat, maybe the game takes a turn. We were just horrible all the way around. 😦

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    O Rob

The O-line sucks, and we’re playing without Albert (as I expected), and we can’t pass protect or run block. Blame the offense if you like, but that’s why the offense sucks. I wish you could tell me why the defense sucks just as bad or worse.

  41. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    O Rob

All reports on the choosing of Hickey as GM were to find a GM that Philbin was comfortable with and shared the same philosophies with. If you have an article to the contrary, please post it.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

The reason i say what i say is the fact that Ross has operated this way from day 1, he has no one in charge. he fired sparano hired philbin, fired ireland hired hickey,
so with that said do you think it was joes decision to hire lazor or bring in T Baum? i certainly dont

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Tannenbaum was clearly all Ross. No doubt there but I think Philbin had the say on his coaching staff. I never seen anything contrary to that.

  42. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Besides not playing well on either side of the ball we don’t play complimentary football. Both units need to feed off each other and pick each other up and that’s not happening. Still a lack of big plays. Look at what ARZ does, they makes plays in all phases and everyone feeds off that.

  43. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

as for the Defense Brice Mccain killed us, and i dont understand why coyle has these CBs playing 10 yards off the LOS, we never see press coverage

  44. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

we need a football smart guy who is in complete control of all decisions, i just dont feel we have that

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Rob

I don’t think Philbin asked Ross to bring in Tannenbaum, that was Ross’ decision, but I do think Philbin had a lot to do with the hiring of Hickey, and I believe he chose Coyle and Lazor on his own.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I wouldn’t know mike, i just think Ross is too much hands on, remember he’s the boss so any disagreement might stop your paycheck, his opinion carries too much weight and he’s not a football guy

  46. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I though T Baum would be great for this team bringing his run first philosophy with him but it seems he’s deferring to Lazors dink and dunk philosophy

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Tannenbaum is the guy that thought Mark Sanchez was worth one of the highest paying contracts in the league. Nuff said. Hated the move from day 1.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

he also had the best running game in the business that took the jets to back to back championship games with sanchez at QB

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

And then he promptly ruined the team by relying on Sanchez and when his older veteran players started to show their age he had the team in cap hell so he could not replace them in FA and the team went from 2 AFC championships to out of the playoffs to a laughingtock in the course of 2 years.

Ken i get that you cant stay on top forever unless you’re the pats, but my reasoning is he had the right idea with a run first offense and that’s what we lack

  47. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

The front office isn’t part of Joe’s staff. Joe works for the front office. No coach should ever pick his GM

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

That’s precisely how I felt, but that’s not the way it went down. I remember very clearly, I followed the process very closely, you can even ask Tim. We discussed it very often, because I was upset that they were giving Philbin so much say as to who the GM would be. I thought it was totally bass ackwards to do it that way.

  48. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Ross isn’t picking Philbin’s staff.

  49. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

How is Ross too hands on? What is this notion actually based on?

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

LOL. Agreed. Ross seems so freaking clueless and lost. The one criticism I have of him is that he has held on to people such as Ireland and Philbin for too long. But those the bigger picture items. In terms of the day to day stuff I have never seen or heard of Ross having his hands involved in that.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t get it either. He just put a front office together to run the football operations.

    • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Ross is hands on with the hiring of staff, he chooses every coach and GM instead of putting one guy in charge and making him responsible for the outcome of this team.

he really has no one to hold responsible.

what you do is hire a guy like Bill Polian and let him assemble his staff and hold him accountable

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I have never seen any indication or mention that Ross was the guy who put together Philbin’s staff. Not a single mention of that in a single article ever.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He hired the HC and front office when he had too, but not the rest of the coaching staff. He just hired Tannenbaum to take over the duties of hiring a HC/GM etc. That’s now Mr. T’s job.

I don’t have a problem with what he’s done, he hasn’t been doing it very long and Philbin is in his 4th year, it’s not like he’s been around 7-8 years. Ross has been learning on the fly. Mr. T is now his football man. It’s new it just started this year.

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Ken remember when he flew across the country to court Harbaugh with Ireland? do you know he is close friends with T Baum? what does that tell you?

  50. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

Our Philosophy is flawed, we’re a pass first offense, we have a QB that is inaccurate deep defenses play us with 10 guys within 5 yards of the LOS because they want us to beat them with our weakness which is tannys accuracy problems, they take away the run and the short passing game.

we need to establish a running game, like Seattle with Lynch like the SF 49ers had with gore, we also need to threaten teams deep, that will open up the intermediate passing game.

we dont have that and defenses take away our strengths and make us beat them with our weakness.

It is a known fact that a run and shoot offense doesn’t work in the NFL and it seems thats what we run

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I agree we need to run more, but the FO dropped the ball getting the horses up front to do it well.

    • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Our intermediate pass game is open and so is the deep stuff. We just haven’t been successful deep but that doesn’t matter bc they are only a small percentage of the things that nfl teams do. We don’t run bc we choose not to. It’s been a pet peeve of mine since the first year Joe was here and we ran the ball more than year than the rest.

No question he has a great football mind. However, I question the ability of anyone that old to have the mental and physical stamina to run a professional football team. To put the kind of hours in necessary to do that. I don’t think he can at his age.

being in an NFl front office is pretty stressful

        He already made his $

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I agree that I don’t see him wanting to. I don’t question his ability in terms of his knowledge of the game but as you said it is very stressful and stress has a huge impact on the human body at his age that could be catastrophic.

but I suspect at some level Philbin has to pitch who he wants to hire to Ross

and at the FO level Ross clearly has connections to most people
Albeit, as I recall like Mike said, Hickey was basically a Philbin hire

I highly doubt Ross will fire Tannebaum. I bet he’s gonna be responsible for hiring the next coach and possibly GM. It might be that both hickey and philbin are gone after this year.

  60. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

Tannenbaum’s hiring changed a lot of things, but when we hired Hickey, it was with Philbin’s blessings and approval.

    • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Blessings and approval aren’t the same thing as Philbin hiring him or that he’s Joe’s staff.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        I don;t know
        Blessings can be pretty powerful

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Semantics SB. I never said that Joe was out there conducting the search, but the search was conducted to meet Joe’s parameters for what he wanted. Say it however you like, he had say in who was hired.

  61. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I get what happened in the past but now Mr. T now oversees the entire football operations. We didn’t have a guy in his position until this year.

  62. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

It’s not semantics. I was arguing against something Orob said regarding Ross hiring Philbin’s staff and you responded with a different argument.

  63. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Nothing about Philbin’s role. Just that the GM doesn’t work for the coach.

  64. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Honestly Rex was a no-brainer
He was the DC of the Ravens before the jests hired him
He was pretty much the #1 candidate out there
I think the Ravens were coming off a super bowl win

believe it or not Philbin was not much different at the time being the OC for the Packers
I think the Packers were coming off a super bowl win

Sometimes getting the hot coordinator works out well
    sometimes it doesn’t

I don;t even know how some one can predict how it will turn out with a fitrst time HC

I tend to think you just look at philosophies and see if its the direction you want your team to go

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

that’s why you keep trying until you hit on one. Its like a QB. But you can’t give someone that obviously is not gonna win chances after chances. 3 years should be max. If no playoffs in 3 years you get a new one in the door.

I believe JJ had a Hershal Walker type deal in the works for Dan!
And when it was rejected JJ walked away.

And we have been searching for a HC and a QB ever since!!!!!!

  68. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    piggy,
I agree with Tim. This game is a must win. If he can go even not at 100% he needs to play. If not I don’t think it’ll matter. If we go 1-3 the season is essentially over.

  69. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Piggy, Rex was the hot coordinator at the time in Baltimore, but Philbin never was, Hell he didn’t even call plays. He just drew pictures.

  70. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Wyo

I can’t imagine a team was willing to give us a Herschel Walker type deal at that point of Dan’s career. He was all padded and braced up by then, and not nearly as good as he was.

  71. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

The funny thing was that Philbin was supposed to be known for his offensive game planning since he wasn’t a playcaller.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

No, from what I know, he was just assisting McCarthy in the game planning….besides, game plans change as the game goes on.

      • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

They are the reason that the Phins were being looked at by a lot of top players as a place to go to, not stay away from like we had had previously. Talent is here, the players we picked up were good moves, whats happening to this team is a continuation of bad play calling and field level leadership.

Philbin will get as much credit for turning things around as he does right now for not doing so, and thats fair, but these coordinators are not good and i cant see being confident that we wont keep having “by the skin of our teeth” seasons with them calling plays, especially Coyle.
