Perhaps another trip across the pond will help the Miami Dolphins prevent their season from potentially spiraling out of control.
They’ll try to avoid a third straight defeat Sunday in London against a New York Jets team that’s looking to bounce back from its first defeat.
Last season, Miami (1-2) was 1-2 and coming off two straight losses when it went to London and rolled to a 38-14 victory over Oakland. Though the Dolphins would go on to lose the game that followed, at least they are familiar with their current plight.
“We’ve been here before, so we know what we gotta do, and that’s just go back to work, find a way to get this W,” safety Michael Thomas’ told the team’s official website.
Saddled with high expectations after adding $114 million defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and confident quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Lamar Miller would take their play to a higher level, the Dolphins have floundered out of the gate. They needed a fourth-quarter rally to win 17-10 at Washington in Week 1, never led during a three-point loss at Jacksonville and were blown out 41-14 by Buffalo at home last Sunday.
Fourth-year coach Joe Philbin appeared to be on thin ice heading into the season, and might fall through if things don’t improve. Publicly, Philbin hasn’t shown too much concern for these early struggles or his own job security but won’t sugarcoat the team’s current state.
”This is not a time to panic,” he said. ”We’re not getting 53 new players. We’re not getting 24 new coaches. We’re either going to find solutions to these problems or not, and we’re either going to stick together or not.”
Philbin said that lineup changes could happen this week, perhaps on defense.
The addition of Suh hasn’t kept the Dolphins from yielding 435 rushing yards – second-most in the league. They’ve recorded one sack and allowed a combined 101.8 passer rating to the trio of Kirk Cousins, Blake Bortles and Tyrod Taylor.
”I’m disappointed, but I’m mostly disappointed in myself,” embattled defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle said. ”I’ve got to do a better job getting guys in the right spots.”
Offensively, Tannehill has completed 61.4 percent of his passes with five touchdowns but threw all three of his interceptions last week. He’s also been sacked seven times.
Miller set career highs with 1,099 rushing yards and eight TDs last season, but has gained 105 without a score on 30 attempts while dealing with an ankle issue.
”Guys are frustrated,” Tannehill said. ”We know we’re a better team than we’ve showed. There’s no panic, but definitely urgency to get this thing turned around.”
Tannehill’s completed only 57.6 percent of his passes and has four TDs and six INTs while splitting his six starts against New York (2-1). Miller ran for a career-high 178 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries during a 37-24 season-ending home loss to the Jets in 2014.
However, both could have a hard time getting untracked against a New York defense that allowed 17 points prior to last week’s 24-17 loss to Philadelphia. Despite the defeat, the Jets yielded 231 yards and rank fourth in the league giving up 298.3 per game.
With four turnovers and a number of missed tackles on Darren Sproles’ 89-yard punt return for a TD, the Jets feel they hurt themselves more than the Eagles did.
“We didn’t lose this game because we thought we were better than we are,” center Nick Mangold said. ”We lost because of execution.”
With Chris Ivory sidelined by a quad injury, New York managed 47 rushing yards and Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three interceptions after throwing two in the first two contests.
”It’s just as important not to overreact for a loss as it is to a win,” first-year coach Todd Bowles said. ”We didn’t overreact to the two wins, we’re not going to overreact to the one loss.”
Ivory, who leads the team with 148 rushing yards and has scored twice, should return for this contest after being a full participant in practice Thursday and Friday. He’s averaged 3.7 yards per carry while gaining 171 in four games against the Dolphins.
While Ivory and star cornerback Darrelle Revis (hamstring) are probable to play, Eric Decker (knee) is a game-time decision after sitting out last week’s game. Decker is listed as questionable after missing practice Wednesday and being limited on Thursday and Friday.
This will be the Jets’ first game in London.
”I think guys think it’s cool to go over there,” Fitzpatrick said. “It will be a unique experience for all of us and hopefully bring the team together even more.”
It’s time to kick some ass fellas! GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Wow this is bad
“pressure in his face” as always
At 3rd and long there will always be pressure
He had a clean pocket on 1st down
they may finish this game with zero yards
then try a sweep but don’t put any blocking in front of the RB
Philbin needs to buy a ticket home
a 6 yard pass on a 3rd and 11 gets 10 …same ol same ol
toba,
this team isnt even worth drinking too
To ? No. Because of ? Hell yes
lol Mike E – too loose, they are already thinking about their bye week vacations on some island beach with a tropical drink instead of focusing on the game
Just so undisciplined, for a HC that supposedly sweats the details. We haven’t done a thing right
I can’t believe we are this bad
it’s like philbin did not even look at tape of the previous games … STUBBORN never wins

To ? No. Because of ? Hell yes
naaaa, they arent even bad enough to drive me to drink, they would have to raise it a dozen levels just to get to be a bad team
It’s the Final Countdown for the Dolphins season, Joe Philbin, and friends…
Philbin has friends?
SO FAR, It’s EVEN WORSE THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE!!! Hey Young Stanger, I hear tickets to the “FEST” game vs. Houston are available at a “Severe Discount!”
There is not even any entertainment value in the dolphins anymore.
This team is a joke so frustrating
THEY ARE WORSE THAN the the team that took the field as an AFL expansion team in 1966!!
Marshall taking Grimes lunch money

I can’t believe we are this bad
they arent good enough to be called bad. i have never seen a team so out of it. and i watched the bucs since inception.
I’m truly sorry, FFR. –NOT SUE THIS PHILBIN TEAM could beat the Bucs team that started O-24.
“SURE”
all day to throw and another missed tackle
We are about to go down by 2 scores again
OD
this team is worse then any buc team i have ever seen, and they were some horrible buc teams
Getting physically dominated. So embarrassing
big holes in the middle of the line
I just can’t believe we are this bad
And now Grimes is out – not that he was doing much today
how come we can’t ever throw a screen but “they” always can.
wtf you celebrating mcsuck, they are about to score again
Can’t even capitalize on a mistake from Fitzpatrick the turnover machine
First impact play for Misi this year though.
Great protection. I blame Hickenbaum for the shitshow of an O-line we have.
It’s still 10-0 with is no good
But nice stop in the redzone
blowbin looking around thinking, can we get this game over, i want to go back to that castle thingy again
Take him to Tower of London. Off with his head
Celebrate a 2nd down stop AND A 1ST down Inc in the endzone
Dont do that till you get the ball back without giving up any points
Improvement from last week we are only down 10 nothing after 2 drives instead of 14
This team is really Bad
At least we cant go 0-16
the announcer says “no signs of improvement”
Well…….lots of this so far by the Fins….💩💩💩💩💩
So who is the consensus #1 pick next year?
of course that is tanny’s fault that he cant even set his feet before a guy is in his face
When dis e get Stills ??
“finally a ball thrown downfield”
Who is the #1 QB coming out next year?
Wow that was a panic throw – you’re going to get hit so at least make them pay with the completed pass
Great protection. I blame Hickenbaum for the shitshow of an O-line we have.
You got to know the jests are going to blitz on 3rd down but the Dolphins have no one back to pick up the blocker
once again tannehill has no chance to set up the play
That’s what a pass rush looks like

Who is the #1 QB coming out next year?
whoever it is i hope he is good throwing from his back
It’s early, I could go back to sleep . . .
“the jets this year have blitzed on 3rd more than any other team” says the announcer, but Philbin/Coyle did not know this or plan for it
I have retired my #17 Jersey. I have disconnected the Still again. That homeraide was the problem. It poisoned my mind. We suck across the board and are in Cap Hell. We will suck again and again the next few years as the new coaches tear down the shit team we have and try to rebuild it in their image.

It’s early, I could go back to sleep . . .
well there is 53 guys in london already asleep
wow Suh almost in on a play
Fucking defense sucks so bad the runners get 9 yards after contact for 6 yard gains stumbling forward
HAVE EITHER of our Top 2 draft choices PLAYED A SINGLE PLAY TODAY??? – – Let’s see what they’ve got!
They are undergoing the “Philbin seasoning” of not being used much their first year.
grimes all pouting. he is hurt, his wife is unemployed. time to retire.
So if er lose and Philbin and possibly others are fired is Hulk angry or happy ?
Geez how many defenders does it take to stop one runner?
If they’re Dolphins defenders, it seems at least 3
one … oh wait it’s Coyle’s guys … 7 then.
Come on that is a charity spot They don’t need charity they are kicking our asses
great effort to make a tackle in the backfield. that was just pathetic
That look on Grimes face says ACL to me. He got hurt a few plays before when Marshall caught one over the middle and he tackled him.
Bet wejump
Is that Canadian for something?
ACL-MCL Whatever, dont matter this season is toast…
At least he’s done early enough in the season to wher he might be back for game 1 next year
Yay
Is wejump a city near Manitoba?
Landry again the only one playing with passion
OK, so we can tackle our own guy on the sidelines with just one player.
I can’t believe we resisted the temptation to jump offsides.
Landry shows the other 52 how they should be playing.
Nice takedown by Moore on Landry. Maybe he can play D
Wejump is a cliff that Philbin gonna go see
Everyone injured. So much for Sports Science
OD,
Did you see yesterday where Florida with a brand spanking new coach is now 5-0 and crushed ‘Ole Miss? New coaches don’t need a ‘warming up’ period to be good just like the ‘puppies who bite’ analogy Parcells loves. Harbaugh, instant success. Tomlin, instant success. Arians, instant success. McCarthy, Shula, etc, etc. I’m of the belief you know what you have by halfway through the second year. Thank you Philbin for ensuring my continued belief in this. 28 yards in the first quarter. Unbelievably bad.
BELIEVE ME, NEW AGE, I’ve been preaching the “Shula Method,” including a fast start THE FIRST YEAR, on this board since Day 1. –As for the Gators, YES, I saw every play of that game!! – – By the way, NO GOOD COACH is going to come into this toxic dump UNLESS HE’S GIVEN FULL AND ABSOLUTE CONTROL OVER PERSONNEL!! – – Are you listening, Steve Ross????
I’M SAYING ROSS DOESN’T HAVE THE BALLS TO FIRE PHILBIN AT HALFTIME!! – – But I’d respect Ross more if he did!!!
Can we get a big play on 2nd down please
Let’s not take it to 3rd down
That was a huge 2nd down play
Rumor has it goes coaching changes if we lose
Rumor has it the earth is NOT FLAT.
Really? BS…
Here comes the dump off to miller
Close enuff yup
What did I say? Wait until we play we AFC East defenses with our O-line?
Piggy you didn’t clarify big play on 2nd down for us or the Jets
WHAT THE FUCK!!?? DOES TANNEHILL / LAZOR not know where the first down marker is?
We need an entirely different offensive scheme. Time to scrap this crap
0 to -10 yard passes will not cut it! WHAT THE FUCK!!!???
Fire them all now Ross you call the plays. I feel more confident in you than these retards.
I don’t want to hear people say tanne does not deserve some of the blame- 3 and 19 and we throw a 3 yd pass
even a football fool like me can see this team is horrible at tackling
Wow some defense blitz
U-G-L-Y
Lol, started the 2nd quarter with 28 yards. Now we have 26 total yards.
ANOTHER pitiful third down call.
another crummy DB out of position … Coyle
They aren’t even trying. Pathetic. Again shitty offensive playcalliing shitty mobility in the pocket from Tanny. Shitty throws. Just crap all the way around
Come on
Create a to
Spent a lot of money. .on the wrong side of the ball
try,
i dont get that. i have not seen one person on here say tanny doesnt deserve some of the blame. however i have seen plenty blame him and ignore the online issues
3 yd pass by tanne when 19 is needed
That was a nice grab. Bastard
Where is the pass rush?
hey 3rd and long and the jets pick it up, who would have thunk that possible
EZPZ for Decker who can catch and run even tho injured
Amazing things happen when ya throw to where rec WILL BE not where he was
Tanny has to move on those fucking blitzs they aren’t keeping a rb back to protect so its his responsibility to get the fuck out if the way. Fucking statue
He can’t. His legs are made of cement
It’s been a problem for a while
Plus he doesn’t look downfield
The protection is bad
The qb makes it look worse
the jets committed that penalty just to get in 3rd and long
Why the fuck did whoever was covering decker start about 7 yards off and then BACK UP when it was 3rd and 6? What the fuck?
Ivory with several holes to choose from — COYLE
