As I sat down to write this weeks article, after deciding this week would be a bad week to try and extract questions from the group, I thought to myself, “What am I going to write about today?” So many unknowns, a new HC in place, a team that seems to have played worse than the apparent talent on it, so what do I say. Do I take a positive spin on the season, or a negative one. I’ve decided to do a little of both.
The good news is, the Dolphins finally realized that Joe Philbin is not the leader they needed going forward. I’ve felt that way for quite some time as you all know, but always hoped for the best. The bad news is, even with Joe Philbin gone, and hyped up, physically imposing Dan Campbell in, the players that were here underachieving for Joe, and making excuses are still in uniform, on the active roster, and will be donning those uniforms this Sunday against the Titans in Tennessee. Although I blame Joe for a lack of fire, and certainly not enough accountability, I still feel the players should have enough drive to go out there and do their job with passion, whether they agree with the scheme, or the coach, or the GM, or the owner. They get paid the big bucks to play, yes play a game, and to not be prideful enough to give your all for yourself, and your teammates is inexcusable.
We’re 1-3, and of course, the New England Patriots are in 1st place at 4-0, followed by the New York Jets at 3-1, and then the Buffalo Bills at 3-2. We’ve already lost once to the Bills and Jets, leaving us 0-2 in the division. The Patriots and Jets are 1-0, the Bills 1-1. While we’ve only played 4 games, it’s a deep hole to start. OK, some good news! Outside our division, if you’re hoping like hell we can somehow get a Wild Card berth, the future looks brighter outside our division. Take away 1st place teams like the 5-0 Bengals, the 3-2 Indianapolis Colts, and the 5-0 Denver Broncos, and the rest of the AFC, with the exception of the Pittsburgh Steelers who are 3-2, are under .500. The Titans are 1-3, while the Jaguars and Texans are each 1-4. The Raiders and Chargers are 2-3, while the Chiefs are 1-4.
So where do we go from here? What do we need to improve on to become a contender, at least for a Wild Card? Big picture, we’re 28th in the NFL on Offense, and we’re 29th on defense. Suh is here! Devante Parker is here! Jordan Cameron is here! Kenny Stills is here! None of the above have made an impact on this team. So how do we change this? First of all, on the offensive side of the ball, Dan Campbell better run an Oklahoma drill on Bill Lazor’s face if he doesn’t relent from his PASS-PASS-PASS-PUNT mentality. While this much maligned O-line has looked absolutely putrid, what can get them fired up and more confident than imposing their will and running the ball down another teams throats? Time to make a concerted effort and RUN-THE-BALL. Our 24YO RB who ran for 1099 yards last year with a 5.1 YPC average has 37 rushing attempts FOR THE SEASON! Not 1 game, FOUR games! He’s averaging a way below career average 3.5 YPC, and has no rushing TD’s. I wish I could say it was because another RB has picked up the slack, but Jonas Gray, who basically has had action in one game is 2nd on the team with 10 carries. Are you kidding me? Just for fun, Ryan Tannehill is 3rd, and Jarvis Landry is 4th , with 8 carries, and 5 carries respectively. See a problem here?
On offense, it all starts with the run game for me. That’s been the biggest weakness, and due to the lack of commitment to the run game, our offense is one dimensional, and with the our less than average O-line, there is too much pressure on that unit to succeed. Branden Albert hasn’t been healthy, and his replacement at LT, Jason Fox hasn’t been either, and both have played very poorly. LG Dallas Thomas has struggled mightily. C Mike Pouncey has been OK, but when water starts pouring through the dam, one brick can only do so much. RG Jamil Douglas has struggled as well, as I expected. What I didn’t expect is RT Ju’Wuan to go backwards, way backwards after such an impressive rookie season. Our O-line is pathetic, and now we need to try and mask it somewhat by running the ball. Give these guys some confidence, and if they can’t get it done, find someone else on the roster that can!
On defense, thankfully Coyle was removed. We need to be more aggressive. It seems we can’t get 100% agreement from anyone as to what type of scheme we’ve been running “2 gap” “Read and React”, but whatever it was, it clearly wasn’t working. One place where I do believe we have legit talent is on the D-line. Suh, Mitchell, Wake and Vernon. Wake’s injury has really limited his effectiveness, to the point where he doesn’t even belong on the field. If Suh is really being double and triple teamed every play, it’s impossible that no one else can win a one-on-one battle, but we haven’t. We have plenty of differing opinions here, but mine is clearly that Suh has played well. We need him to be a beast, and he’s been tame. Maybe Philbin’s exit and Campbell’s entrance will awake the beast. Regardless of what Suh does, where is Earl Mitchell, Olivier Vernon, Terence Fede and especially Cam Wake? WTF Cam, if you’re hurt that bad, sit out the game and let an able bodied player play. It’s insane! 4 games, ZERO TACKLES, ZERO SACKS, 1 assist. GTFOOH!
If any of you have seen the 1977 movie “One on One”, with Robbie Benson, we need to “Pull the stops out” Incidentally, if you’re of fetal age like D, there’s no shot you’ve seen that movie, so I’ll explain the context. In the movie “One on One”, Robbie Benson plays Henry Steele, a HS basketball player from a small town in Colorado, recruited by a big college “Western University” in Los Angeles. Henry struggles with both the academics and the physicality of the college game, Henry is a slightly built but talented guard. The coach G.D. Spradlin plays Coach Moreland Smith (Same guy who played the HC in “North Dallas Forty”) tires of Henry’s struggles as he’s on a 4YR full scholarship, and tries to intimidate Henry to in order to make him renounce his scholarship. Here’s a clip from the movie, but I couldn’t find the “Pull the stops out” video, which I’ll get to later.
Henry feels frustrated with his play, so he asks his roommate and friend on the team for help, who gives him some pills, likely amphetamines, and and during practice, Steele (under the influence) at first starts to make some fantastic plays, but as he succumbs to the drug, he becomes out of control until he is escorted out of the practice by his friend. They play a very seventies-esque song call “Pull the stops out” to accompany the scene. My best pal Scott and I both love that movie, there are some classic lines we always bring up, like one would from Goodfellas, or any classic movie. Anyway, we do need to pull the stops out, and being conservative in any way should be thrown out the window. these are desperate times my friends, and the window of opportunity for this season is closing fast. But it ain’t closed yet, and a win against the Titans is the place to start.
The Titans are also 1-3, and also desperate as we will be, so it could be a wild and wacky game. Neither team can afford another loss, so I expect a hard fought game, with at least one surprise play from both teams. I hope Dan has his team ready to compete, because they haven’t really competed hard in any game this year, including the win against Washington. Son’s buddy Kirk Cousins gift-wrapped that one for us. Time to show some pride, and and fight hard, and it’s amazing sometimes what that can lead to. GO DOLPHINS!!!!
And now for the babe of the week . . .

Good article Mike. Who know what the rest of this season holds.
Wonder woman for a wonder season?
Howie Titans 24-17.
Ashamed to say first time I’ve ever picked against the Fins. Hope they prove me wrong. Just can’t see past the disarray.

Sitting in frankfurt airport on way back home. Can’t wait.
Hope you enjoyed the Pork and cabbage Boulder – you couldn’t have enjoyed the London game!

I flew out of Frankfurt on 12/11/1985- the day my tour of duty in the European Theater ended. I haven’t been back to Deutschland since. Beautiful place, last century’s history not withstanding. Very technical people. If they tell you the train arrives @ 12:23 and leaves the platform @ 12:27, you better have your ass in the seat by 12:27, ‘cuz the train is leaving the station!
Actually, just remembered a sad piece of history- I left on 12/12, not 12/11. I arrived at the airport on 12/11, but my flight was bumped back a couple of times (if you’ve been in the military, you know it happens frequently). Also on 12/12/85, 248 soldiers (plus 7 crewmembers) returning from duty in Cairo were killed in Gander, Newfoundland, when their plane crashed just after takeoff on the way to Ft Campbell, KY, which just happened to be my next duty station. My parents were worried, as they hadn’t heard from me for a couple of days and had no idea how I was coming home. The memorial they have for those who died in that crash is moving.

All I can say is, “They WERE real, and they WERE spectacular!”
I assume you’re talking about her powers . . . .
She had powers, alright 😝

That’s a sad story man, the military plane crash.
It was a horrible time. About 2 months later, the first shuttle exploded, so the military community was reeling.
Oh man, that’s a couple of real tragedies right there.

Where is your avi photo taken?

Wisenheimer! Where is it?
I don’t really know- I love Fall, and it was a great pic.

Did you ever see the movie One on One?
I probably did, but I don’t remember a thing about it. One I think of Robbie Benson movies, I think of Ice Castles and a made for tv movie where he becomes addicted to drugs and his father ends up shooting him.
Thanks UK, Boulder!
Mike, good stuff but our defense has never been about scheme to me. It’s been lack of performance. What scheme can any DC come up with that makes the edge rushers get to the passer in a 4 man front? The answer is the DEs have not been getting to the QB. There is no scheme that makes that happen. It’s about One on One.
It’s not just the front 4, it’s the secondary, playing man or zone, or press coverage, or all of the above. It’s where you line up the front 4 and what responsibilities they’re given.
One on one is very appropriate though. 😉
Suh already said he doesn’t expect his role to change. Of course it won’t because there is nothing to change. New DC Lou Anarumo has already stated we have never played 2 gap since he’s been here 4 years, it’s not in the playbook. The DL plays a 1 gap attack the backfield style. So what’s been happening? They haven’t been getting in the backfield. That’s why Campbell’s focus has been on a physical mentality and the lines on both sides of the ball have to establish themselves. He also points out that we have not played complimentary football “AT ALL” which means the offense not scoring and the team falling behind takes away the aggressive 4 man front and teams just grind us with the run game.
Maybe Suh’s role can change from goat to hero . . .
mike,
got to say i like this format much better then the ask mike. it is like one scroll of the wheel and i am to the comments. way to go.
i was never much a wonder woman fan, she would always bust the damn chains.

there is a difference between Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett. We hate Tom Brady as Dolphins fans but he’s good at what they do. Ryan Mallett is a 2nd tier QB at best. Talent matters. It’s what makes the world go-round.
________________________________________
true but when you look at overall team talent, there’s not much difference, your way of thinking makes it as the 5-0 Bengals are light years ahead of the 1-3 Fins, they just out talent us right?
I doubt that.
how the draft and waiver wire is set up The NFL tries to spread talent equally, there may be some Teams that are more talented then us but it isn’t by much.
I believe the difference in winning and losing falls within the coaching staff way more than the lack of talent.
X’s and O’s and execution is what separates the winners from the losers
The Bengals have been building forward for a few years. We’re behind them in a lot of ways.
I said heading into this season, for us to have success we’re going to have to rely on a lot of young players including unproven young players. It hasn’t happened yet.
I love this type of stuff.

That’s pretty cool. Maybe they’ll come visit. Maybe Piggy can ask Wedge if he knows who they are.
I’m not sure an alien visit would be good for us.
someone at PT this morning told me the Dolphins may lose all their remaining games but we have the baddest coach who can beat up any NFL HC coach and take their lunch money.
Frankfurt Airport is a awesome airport compared to all the airports I’ve been through through the years.
Tim
You never know. They might not be unfriendly.
What is that from? I know it, but I can’t think of it.
I remember a restaurant inside the airport that gave all Iranians and people with tickets heading to Iran a Free meal and they had a private lounge for them.
The smoking sections were only 12 by 12 if that and you would see 30-40 crammed into it smoking away. You could hardly make out any people their was so much smoke.
Why only Iranians and people going to Iran?
government set it up that way I guess.

That’s funny? I remember you being positive saying this team will be great, remember how you argued with me when i told you i had concerns about the offense, Tannehill and Lazor?
I always head into a season positive and I was excited about the moves we made but always mentioned our young talent had to step up for us to be a good team. I’m also not a fan of Lazor’s offense so you have me confused with someone else on that. I do however disagree with your constant Tannehill bashing.
In ft lauderdale we have a new runway that was built where planes land on a elevated 7 story runway and taxi to terminals. Only a few of these types of runways in the world

the spaceballs alien scene is one of my all time favorite scenes
It was brilliant. A great ending to a comedy film.
Some changes that have been made thus far are Turner is practicing with the 1s at RG and C. McCain is working exclusively at DE.
Piggy
As lackluster as Joe was, it’s not like he told the players to suck, and not try hard. They did that on their own.
If I was looking at lackluster effort
I think its more evident on defense than offense
on offense I think the whole scheme is flawed and the playcalling sucks
I don;t think they failed o score bc of lack of effort s
I agree with that. I also never saw Joe do anything during the games like talking to any players or coaches or doing any of that coaching thing that I see other coaches do. He stood there all by himself with that queasy, confused look on his face.
Spaceballs. I couldn’t remember where that scene came from. Haven’t seen that movie in a long time.
GO DODGERS!
wow, there is a shock. who would have ever thunk that.
(but you guys go ahead and keep arguing with him)
Well Done Mike E.. I am looking forward to (hopefully) a new attitude and PASSION from the team Sunday.. we are very much in the WC hunt with a win…SHOW US !!!!
BOTW PERFECT !!!!!!
I had her poster……..right next to Farrah, Tiegs and Lonnie Anderson.
I think the only poster I had was a life size Raquel Welch, other than pullouts from playboy and a pic of Lady Diana (LOL)
Replace Lonnie with Heather Thompson for me.
I actually liked Bailey (WKRP) better than Loni
For the first 25 years or so I was blown away by large breasts, became more free minded on the subject as time went by. 🙂
Mike E — one of the most thoughtful write-ups ever to hit this board. Not sure what to say other than that except, loved this dig. — “Incidentally, if you’re of fetal age like D”
LMAO — but when you call someone of his age that, the rest of us are getting real old. Remember my grandfather talking about “young whippersnappers” who were like 40. 🙂
Thanks Jon – I’m sure the fetus will have a good comeback for that. lol
Oh Yeah …. GO JAYS !!!!!
Thanks Toba!
OK, just to get this in the clear, I thought Joe was possibly the worst motivator and diciplinarian I’ve ever seen. but that still doesn’t excuse the players.
you appear correct on all three points.. Maybe he is an “Energy Sucker”.. I know a few people like that, you are around them, and no matter how good of a mood you start off in they just suck the life/energy right out of you.. I did not enjoy his little golf claps at players coming off the field aver having screwed up.. cant recall exact details, but was yelling at him on TV.. “Don’t applaud that useless shit, Kick his Ass!!!”
Dan will Kick their asses, I hope, and bench em if they screw the pooch..
Seems like they need that, desire that even.
How old is D anyway?
I’m going to guess: 13
Is that right?
😉
6
6 weeks, in the womb
Toba, most of my friends and I liked Bailey over Lonnie.
kind of like the Mary Anne Ginger thing… 😛
Yes, except I wanted to do both of them. While Mrs. Howell watches. LOL
My Uncle got me a subscription to Playboy when I was 13. The only posters I had were centerfolds. lol
BTW – Did you guys see that Playboy is no longer to feature nude women in their magazine? That’s like Car and Driver not having any cars.
Yeah because online porn makes it irrelevant. LOL
no one realy looks at magainzes anymore for nudies or pron
pron especially….lol
yeah that shocked me…. I remember Jimmy Connors future wife Playmate of the Year .. Patty something , I had her plastered all over my walls as well.. she was right up there with Wonder Woman..
Stanger, we know all about you and cleavage. 😉
LOL….but that’s case in point. They weren’t big just a glimpse of the female version of “freeballing.”
This one for you Toba.
What makes it all the more incredible is it is from the days before cosmetic surgery and full-time personal trainers.

yeah memory aint that good… 🙂
Shawshank is defintely in my top 3.
I have 2 movies in my top 3 that I’d guarantee no one else here has in theirs
The Sound of Music and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
I would say one of mine no one here may have even heard of …
I have a hard time ranking movies because there are so many good ones but Shawshank is definitely a favorite of mine.
in no particular order :
Shawshank
Arthur (Dudley Moore)
Remember the Titans
Phantom of the Paradise (more for the music)
Any Given Sunday
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was the 1st movie my parents ever took me to.. 🙂
I actually used to love Chitty Chitty bang Bang, especiall Dick Van Dyke dancing out of the box.
Top 3 are
1) To Sir With Love
2) Cool Hand Luke
3) Shawshank Redemption
Clint Eastwood Westerns were good… I liked (not loved) Bond movies..
wow how can I forget … Hot Tub Time Machine… 1st one only.. Frikkin Great movie..
Toba
My best friend Scott, same one who likes One on One, we both love Arthur. We always use quotes from that movie. (Bar scene) “Ohhhh, that’s terrible” (Dinner scene) “Susan, in this light you look magnifcent, although you can’t always count on that light”
You’re A Hooker ???? !!!
I thought I was doing great with you!
The Russel Brand version was okay, but can’t touch Dudley..
Couldn’t watch the Russel Brand version
I always liked the James Bond movies, but I wouldn’t put one above another, until Daniel Craig in Casino Royale. I thought that was the best Bond movie.
I would have to say he would be in my top two worst Bonds .. I loved Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan.. there was DC, who was not repulsive and some other guy that just sucked.. I wanna say Daniel Day Lewis, but am not sure.. he only did one or two..
Timothy Dalton
He was the worst Bond ever
Roger Moore was too smarmy. Connery was great. What I really liked about Casino Royale was they gave Bond some character, not this perfect machine. He was badass in that movie. I read almost all the books and saw every movie because my dad was huge fan, and I really liked the way they changed up the character of James Bond in CR.
Russel Brand I went into with a Trainwreck expectation.. Okay How Bad Will They Screw This Up.. I was pleasantly surprised, but did not LOVE it..
Dan Campbell better run an Oklahoma drill on Bill Lazor’s face if he doesn’t relent from his PASS-PASS-PASS-PUNT mentality.

To Sir With Love = love the song. Don’t remember the movie.
Sidney Poitier starred. Took place in England. I’d bet UK knows the movie. Of course, Lulu also starred, and sang the hit song.
nicely done sir… Loni was way too fake.. Bailey was the Real Deal..
You gotta remember what the hairstyles were like back then. Far as I know, only thing fake about Loni. Think Bert would agree.
I also got into the Bond films due to my dad.. after a while they kind of seemed al the same though and I think last one I saw was World is not Enough..

To Sir With Love was not a Bond movie ?? sure sounds like one… oops..
Toba
IS Phantom Canadian? I think Rocky Horror was, right?
Rocky Horror was UK.
Ah, OK, knew it wasn’t American
No Phantom was not Canadian, but it was HUGE up here.. Paul Williams (Little Enos from Smokey and the Bandit) was the only real Star if ya wanna call him that..
Stanger
I like the Warriors, but not sure if it’s even in my top 10. I have a weird list, it’s kind of an emotional attachment list.
A cult classic but not a great movie.
I put that in with The Wanderers
I was just joking, but with the Wanderers? First two movies I ever bought (OK asked for as a holiday present) were that and Casablanca. My tastes haven’t changed much…..still all over the place.
‘until Daniel Craig in Casino Royale.’
mike, and yeah i am probably the only one that noticed this. but the best part of that move was daniel getting the free boob grab while giving eva green mouth to mouth at the end of the movie.
watch around the 1:36 mark how for he grabs her boob with no purpose to the mouth to mouth. i give him props, it is a nice grope.
Body of Lies was a great movie.
Was that Madonna ??
No!

how that hell can any of you at our ages have a favorite movie list without including fast times at ridgemont high or at least give some honorable mention to phobe cates pool scene is just disgusting. you all should be ashamed of calling yourselves men
LMAO.. My 1st wife and I (prior to marriage) had a HUGE fight over that movie.. she tried covering my eyes for the boob shot, so I stopped it, rewound it and rewatched it.. She grabbed her stuff and walked outta our friends apartment.. i waited like 5 mins and she did not come back so i had go find her..should have realized then how insecure and petty she was.. Had to do the same thing again during Trading Places…
Ain’t we both happy we learned the lessons from first time around.
Mike E, yeah I really liked The Wanderers when I was a kid. But again, not a great movie.
The Ducky Boys, there were like a million of them.
“Leave-the-kid-alone”
Stanger
Yeah, the Wanderers was all about gangs too, and that movie went all kinds of bizarre at the end with the “ducky boys”. WTF was that?
Screw the ducky boys, but in the last decade have gotten a greater appreciation for “Don’t F with the Wongs”……even if the person involved was born in another Asian country. 🙂
LOL!!
An oriental country? 😉
A list of some of what Head Coach Rock has done since taking over, and this doesn’t include using the Oklahoma drill as a “hey I’m here now” move.
— started a practice with a game of tug of war.
— showed the team videos of Michael Jordan to encourage competitiveness.
— Changed players lockers without telling them, reorganizing them into groups based on position.
— Pitted the starting offense and defense against each other in practice, sitting out the practice squad.
I hear he still left 5 empty lockers between Wake and Suh .. thus maintaining Manhattan..

You’re thinking of Body of Evidence
Yes i was … MMM MMM MMMM , and also GIA comes to mind… not anywhere near top 10 movies but….
Tim
I never saw that movie, Body of Lies
It’s excellent and intense. Takes you right into the stuff going on in the middle east. Very good acting.
Saving Private Ryan has to be in my top 10
^
I’m also a big Braveheart fan.
Yeah, that was a great one
Rob
I’d have to make a separate list for comedies, because there are a lot of them I love. A few near the top would be Fast Times, Tommy Boy, Arthur, Superbad, The Jerk, History of the World Part I, Blazing Saddles
We Are Marshall, Armageddon (the one of few movies that choke me up)
One of my favs as a kid. Magda in Octopussy
She had such a nice little octopussy…Mmm
Tim
I’m going to have to check it out. I think DiCaprio is awesome. The Departed, Catch me if you Can
Yep, he’s awesome in this one too. I just saw Blood Diamond again and he’s great in that as well.
He was great as a kid in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
In Departed I had a Bitch of a time keeping him and Matt Damon straight… Catch me if you can was a good movie.. Once upon a time I actually really enjoyed the book too..

Lazor drew parallels to this year’s Dolphins and the 2013 Eagles. Lazor was quarterbacks coach of the Eagles that season.
They started 1-3, lost their fourth game to Denver 52-20 and rebounded to finish 10-6 and win the division.
“It didn’t look too good but we were a 10-6 division winning team,” Lazor said.
“Believe it or not, the sky has not fallen on this team.”
GO TEAM !!!!

was a great movie, but after the band of brothers hbo series it doesnt hold the same value to me.
Mike E sobs like a school girl who got dumped when watching ‘Titanic’
Overhyped vitriol with Celine Dion songs .. how bad can thing get….
LOL, and she’s a canuck right?
She’s probably tougher than the Sedin twins. lol
