Game Day Wrap Up: Texans @ Dolphins

PiggyatGame

If you don;t know by now the Dolphins demolished the Houston Texans on Sunday.  And many Dolfans were there to see it, including this little Piggy.

The win broke an inexplicable streak:  The Dolphins were 0-6 against the Texans entering a game.  Well that changed in a big way.  The game was over by the end of the 1st quarter. By halftime the Dolphins had a 41-0 lead over the Texans.

MatthewsTD2

The Dolfans won the toss but deffered.  The Texans promptly when 3 and out losing 2 yards on their opening drive.

On their opening drive the Dolphins threw a few short passes to Jarivs Landry and ran Lamar Miller for a few first downs.

But the big play was a slant that was right on the money to Rishard Matthews who took the pass 53 yards to the house!  Most of the 53 yards was after the catch.  In this pic Prawn points out who Matthews is – and if you needed him to do that you are an idiot.

LandryTD1

So then on the next drive the Texans gained a total of minus 3 yards.  They went 3 and out again.

The Dolphins also went 3 and out after failing to covert a 3rd and 1.  And then they punted to the Texans again.  Who gained 7 yards – which is a total of 2 yards in 3 drives.  Guess what…they went 3 and out again.

And the Dolphins only managed 1 play on their next drive – but it was a good one.  It took Jarvis Landry 15 seconds to run 50 yards.  He basically covered the whole field.  Landry caught a pass about 15 yards downfield near the sideline.  It was an easy first down – step out right?

LandryBreakdwon

Nope – not Landry.

So gain a few more yards on the sideline

Nope – not Landry

He broke a bunch of tackles – and the downfield blocking was excellent

Boom one of the most exciting 50 yards TDs in Dolphin History.  Check out the breakdown.

Ladry3

Okay Landry that’s enough…

No…okay…MVP MVP MVP

After the Texans lost 3 yards on their next drive and went 3 and out…again…Landry scored his 2nd TD to give the Dolphins a 21-0 lead.

Landry finished the game with 5 catches for 83 yards.  Anyone who didn’t watch the game will not gawk at his performance.  But trust me he was out of this world fighting for every inch

MillerLongTF

So now its Lamar Miller’s turn to catch a 50 yard TD pass.

After the Dolphins went up 21 -0 on Landry’s 2nd score, the Texans pooped on their next drive.

The Dolphins drove the ball 83 yards finishing with a 53 yard screen pass for a TD to Lamar Miller.

Maybe Landry’s stats aren;t that impressive.  But Miller’s are.  175 yards on the ground and a long 85 yards TD run (not pictured here but it took the lead to 35-0) and 61 yards receiving – most of it on that screen.

Jonespic6

And don’t forget the defense.

All those 3 and outs early set the tone.

This is what it looks like when you score 2 pick sixes in consecutive weeks.

SuhandWake2sacks

And this is what 2 sacks each looks like.  Wake had 2 and Suh had 2

CampbellPrawn

And this is a happy coach!

Oh yeah

and guess who had an excellent game too…

4 TDs, 0 ints a perfect passer rating and an NFL record for consecutive completions (over 2 games)

Pig – that four pic shot of the Landry TD is awesome. One of the best long plays I’ve ever seen……and a perfect one for our view from up top.

And I’ll admit when he was running back towards the middle I was thinking…….”crap….he’s gonna give back a bunch of ground”. Did Landry ever prove me wrong.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s also obvious the work he did on his speed in the offseason has paid off. He’s got plenty of speed and he runs like a RB with the ball in his hands.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I thought it was awesome when I saw pouncey and turner run in front of him to block. It was like bring on the big boys. Like a herd of buffalo coming to save their comrade from the lions.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah a few guys joined in and created that wall and Landry instinctively settled in behind it. He’s a great football player. Dallas Thomas was knocking people around as well, probably his best game.

  6. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

BTW I think our linebackers are playing lights out. Both jenkins and misi have been awesome the last 2 weeks and they sat most of 2nd half as well.

  7. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, the way we’ve played the last two games and getting to 3-3 I feel like we’re right in the mix. I feel we can beat good teams and right now outside of the Pats even though we’re on the road in BUF and PHI, they’re not really “good” teams. Beating the Pats would really be impressive and I think it’s possible if our pass rush is there. With the new commitment to the running game, that should also help.

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Landry’s field vision, and awareness of where people are and where they’re going is uncanny. Some players just have it, but most don’t.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He has great instincts and determination. He’s becoming one of the better WR/playmakers in the game.

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

Wes Welker was always my fave Dolphin receiver as he was tough as nails and always moved the sticks on 3rd down. His legacy was tarnished a little after his career move, but juice has taken the #1 spot now.

Nice job Pigsgerald. As you are about to take off, does that make you a flying, flying pig? Do you have to wear a seatbelt on a plane btw?
Awesome game to serve up for the mob’s collective delight and delectation – so happy for y’all. I know how I felt after the Raidaz game last year – nothing quite like it.
Glad to see Rock back on the bandwagon!
Pleased that Brian from NY wasn’t a no-show too, as I saw he had a wobble about going like I did before the Wembley game.
Sorry Stanger, wish I had been able to step from the shadows of a pick-up and say hi during the tailgate, but not to be this year.
Funny story – I was travelling home and didn’t make the finding a stream until HT. When I got the game hooked up I nearly shat myself when I saw 41-0 – just in time for the first half highlights, of which there were many. Settled in for the second half and saw our second team lose 26-3. Still, it didn’t take the shine off the first half drubbing for me.
Concerning that Jamar Taylor was picked on a lot in second half, but looks like Brice McCain will be good to go so that should be an upgrade.
Where’s Bat? Has he gone into a curmudgeonly coma now things are going better? I was going to ask Commissioner Gordon to put out an APB, but if this doesn’t tempt him from the shadows, nothing will?!? Holy Batshit!

It’s hilarious how in the same stadium, UMiami was down 42-0 to Clemson and the very next day the Fins were up 41-0 at the half. Clearly the NFL has greater parity than the college game but quite the difference for fans of both teams who attended both games back to back days in the same stadium LOL.

  15. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

It’s hilarious how the U of Miami fired Al Golden and promoted the TE coach to Head Coach ala the Fins lol.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

No kidding? I knew they fired Golden, but I don’t follow college sports. That’s funny that they hired the TE’s coach. Lightning doesn’t usually strike in the same place twice you know. lol

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

what’s really funny is they will get their full compliment of scholarships next season after losing a lot during the last 3 years. Expect transfers and specifically to UF where Randy Shannon is coaching. Expect oral commitments to go to new schools and the UM program to have a tough time recovering, if at all. Micheal Irvings son might go to UF with the QB who already verbally committed. The St thomas QB and Irvings son are best friends.

  20. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The Landry play was AWESOME. It is so obvious in the off-season he worked on the only thing he lacks, top speed. He’ll never be a burner but he now has a slightly higher top gear and it is showing this year.

That first half dominance was perhaps the most lopsided half of football I’ve ever seen. I am excited to see this team go against one of the best in the league this Thursday to get a measure of where we stand.

I don’t worry about the Texans getting scores in the second half. We played conservative from the word go in the 3rd quarter, but we didn’t get too conservative. We played a perfect mix of 2nd stringers and conservative time eating plays and got out of the game without ever letting them back in it. I thought we executed two completely different game plans in each half, both to near perfection (excepting the Williams fumble).

Not to belabor a point too much, but the Landry TD on-field review perfectly illustrated my point about the difference between a booth review and an on-field review. When I first saw the play I thought he might have stepped out of bounds, the booth thought it was close enough for a review but when we saw it from a different angle, he was about a foot away from the sideline, and it shouldn’t have even been reviewed, but the booth called for it. They err in both directions.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Landry has excellent football speed. He plays fast and he doesn’t go down easy.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

His speed this year reminds me of J Rice. Rice never killed the clocks with amazing speed, but when he was on the field he never got caught from behind.

  25. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,

This kind of stuff happens all the time (recruits trolling colleges and what not). There is no flip flopping game greater than so called HS sports stars doing ‘oral commitments’. The only thing that matters is signing day where people actually commit. That said, the U of Miami just needs to find a strong recruiter (ala Butch Davis) and find competent coordinators (D’Onofrio was the biggest joke of a DC in the history of the program).

I hope the U of Miami gets a person with NFL experience to run the show (easy selling point with recruits -> ties to the NFL where these want to train in college for). If not, I’m all about the poaching game. Make Mississippi State’s HC Dan Mullen a big offer or even as bad as Guz Malzhan’s Tigers look this year I’d offer him a big one too. He’s still a good big game planner and solid recruiter (he’s just got bad pieces this year after talent loss over the last 2 years).

Personally, I wouldn’t mind Butch Davis back but he kind of black listed himself after his stint at UNC. Anywhere Butch goes now the NCAA watchdogs will be there to find him doing illegal shit.

Mike Sherman (yea, him ..lol) is another good candidate IMO; he’s an excellent recruiter and so so coach but he can recruit big time NFL type talent talent. But he might be stung by the Miami media and might not like dealing with the pressure of that job.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Canes go after someone like Rob Ryan but not sure he’s interested in the college game but he would bring swag and these young recruits like that shit (I know many of you guys can’t stand the Ryan’s but players love their style).

i think charlie strong would be a good fit at miami. he is not liked by the alumni at texas and will probably be out this year. and yeah a bit playing the race card but he would be great recruiting in the miami area. his ties with the gators will just help in recruiting the rest of the state. i know he is struggling at texas but i think that has more to do with the alumni bad mouthing him.

  30. herdfan's avatar herdfan says:

It’s funny how things work out. If they had gotten rid of Philbin after last year Campbell wouldn’t have even been on the long list of coaching candidates. In fact, he might be coaching tight ends on another team right now.

Campbell has them ready to play from the first play of the game. With Philbin we were lucky if they were ready by the 1st play of the 2nd quarter and usually was the 2nd half. I really hope the success continues and they keep him. If he can do this much in 2 weeks just think what he could do with an offseason.
    🏈🐬 Go Dolphins!🐬🏈

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s what I’m rooting for. Think about how much he’ll learn coaching 12 games as well. He’ll be even more prepared next year. It’s who he is and his mentality that got this team going, not Xs and Os. The change on offense is we simplified it and committed to the running game. On defense, I see the same schemes just more effort and playmaking.

‘ If he can do this much in 2 weeks just think what he could do with an offseason.’

the only problem is we dont get to play tenn or houston every week. the scary part of this week is now they are going up against the dark lord of coaching. not many have out coached/cheater the dloc. they were able to beat to teams which much less talent then them. this week it will be both talent and coaching needed and i dont know if a hc with no experience can do that.

(oh and sorry to poopoo on your parade :))

  33. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Holla friends! Hope everyone is happy!

I’m sorry I don’t believe we merely changed HC and DC. I think somebody did brain transplants on all 53 players. This is a different team. Maybe blahblahblah on all the bs I’ve read here about Philbin and maybe blahblahblah “motivation”, but blahblahblah I think it sucks they’re so weak minded they couldn’t get themselves motivated on game days without rah rah coaching.

But oh well, may as well enjoy the rare win streak while it lasts.

Beat Pats this week and I’ll simultaneously be impressed and even more pissed at these players. Lol…Go Fins!

sometimes people hate working for their boss and it shows up in the quality of their work. It happens in every profession.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

it’s possible we can beat them because they are very thin on the OL with 4 players less than 11 games each except for Volumar but he is playing a new position also. Brady and his receivers had a bad day yesterday with 10 drops. The Jets showed how to slow up brady with some exotic blitzes. Copy cat league. 11 man front was interesting. We have the DL to wreck havoc.I think if we have Suh/Michell play between center and guard they can create enough push to make Brady uncomfortable from his comfort zone 4-5 yards directly behind center. They can e3ven stack the LB to blitz off of the gaps created from Suh/Micthell

  34. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    FFR,
Strong is just another JAG. Don’t like him at all.

    Jetssuck,
4-5 years is what it would take to be top level.
The Canes were never going to be top level with either Shannon or Golden (both sucked as head coached despite ability to recruit talent). They recruited well but they didn’t recruit well in groups (meaning they were never able to string together elite players within the same class). Besides, neither Shannon or Golden’s recruits have ever become elite NFL talent (I can’t even think of any right now). Butch Davis recruited NFL Hall of Fame type talent on both sides of the ball and Jimmy Johnson and some of his staff had good success as well in this department.

  35. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Jahn,
Same here with your comments. I work with a guy who started telling me “Damn, this can’t be just a Campbell thing…these players must have intentionally quit under Philbin to get to this point (force a change at the HC position to get their way; pro sport players have huge egos). This is the prove me week and not the junk before. Hell, i expect a loss to the Pats and if that happens then the following week will be a big time test of responding after a loss (depending on how we lose LOL). Anyway, maybe I should just be rooting for a stomping of the Pats and avoid such negative thoughts :).

  36. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Hey FFR, I agree with ya. I think it’s easy to ride high on emotion after 2 blowouts in a row, but I think this emotional advantage the team has leveraged the last two weaks is a short lived one.

Hope it gets us to the playoffs this year, and I’ll ride with it as long as it’s working, but I look at Rex Ryan’s track record…eventually that sort of emotional leadership has to give way to X’s and O’s and consistent preparation and execution, and that’s where the proof will be in the pudding.

  38. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,
Shannon is overrated as a recruiter, he won’t clean out anything down here. The players will go where they feel will be their best chance to get to the pro game (where competent coaches exist). South Florida talent is plentiful and they end up going to many places such as WVU etc. Shannon doesn’t have a monopoly on anything.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

We will see. I’m a Gator for life but I follow UM and I think they could have keep Golden considering he never had full compliments of scholarships. Next year would have been the first year and these extra 5 scholarships would only be freshman. It usually takes these freshman 2-3 years to make a impact. All the lost scholarships in the last 3 years had a impact on the program and it is finally catching up to the program.

Jahn, I agree with the motivation of the players but it’s pretty clear Philbin didn’t really inspire them even though they said all the right things.

FFR, our opponents won’t always be the Titans and Texans but we destroyed them both. If we had beaten them by one score I don’t think we’d be as confident going against good teams. If this team continues to play with this kind of passion and physicality they can play with anyone.

  42. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Jetssuck,
Agree on what you said about the strategy against the Pats.
The thing is, this is a rivalry game, and under Dan Campbell the players who normally enjoy playing the Pats (because the media always picks them vs the Fins) are probably going to feel like they are going to war with a big leader and will feel uber confident than ever before.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

Shula used to make his next oppt. as the best ever and preached during week how the team would have to play it best game if his team stood a chance to win. I really think we can beat them even though NE wins 94 percent of its home games in the last 51 games. We may need a turnover plus a trick play that surprises them. A defense that dominates the OL and finally a running game that will bring play action opportunities.

Disagree on Golden. Butch Davis was restricted way more than Golden during his first two years and he was able to put together more effective talent. In the end, Golden inherited similar talent he has now from Shannon and didn’t progressively get better.
It didn’t take a special eye to see how bad Golden had become ….I use Twitter often and the national media guys out there (radio guys with no ties to Miami and scouts/agents at the national level with no ties to Miami were all appalled at what Golden was doing).

my point was based on their talent they should have destroyed both those teams and they did. i am just saying now they are going up against a team with equal or better talent so coaching can be the deciding factor. just my dumb opinion but i think this game we will find out if it was just rah rah coaching or some game planning that has helped them turn it around. rah rah isnt going to beat the refncheats

The Dolphins must be feeling pretty good about themselves right now. Miami’s won two straight since the Dolphins fired head coach Joe Philbin and replaced him with Dan Campbell. After allowing an average of 399.5 yards per game through the first four weeks of the season, the Miami defense has allowed just 310.5 yards per game since Campbell took over. Of course, those games came against Tennessee and Houston, two offenses that pale in comparison to what Brady and the Patriots bring to the table.

It’s funny but the talk about the Texans is that they had some pretty big drops in the game that cost them early opportunities and that such opportunities would be taken advantage of by the Patriots. 55. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Stanger,
My biggest fear going into the Pats game is that the Pats are coming off a game where their offense had an uncanny level of drops. I expect them to tighten up and be very good vs Miami.
The thing that scares me is the use of the screen by the Pats. That shit takes advantage of poor edge play by the corners all the time. Hopefully the Fins have a good defensive scheme to use. Dom Capers does an excellent thing against teams that try and pass on the edge and that is align the safties between the flankers and TE or slot reciever (creating 2 triangles on each side of the formation between the OL-CB and S back between the two). This leaves the middle of the field more open but also leaves the QB guessing as to where the inside defender and safety over the top are going to play after the snap.

Davis was hired as the head football coach at the University of Miami in January 1995.[1] Not long after Davis’ arrival, the Hurricanes were found to have committed several violations of NCAA rules during the tenure of his predecessor, Dennis Erickson.[2] As a result, the Hurricanes were barred from postseason play in his first year (despite an 8–3 record) and lost 31 football scholarship spots over several years. Davis earned a 51–20 record during his tenure as head coach. During Davis’ final year as head coach, the Hurricanes finished 11–1, their best season since coming up one win short of the 1992 national championship. Despite finishing second in both human polls, a quirk in the Bowl Championship Series formula resulted in the Hurricanes being shut out of that year’s national championship game, the 2001 Orange Bowl.

    Miami

On December 12, 2010, ESPN reported that Golden was offered and accepted the head coaching job at the University of Miami.[7]

In press conference remarks upon his hiring on December 13, 2010, Golden emphasized the importance of the University of Miami football legacy. “It’s the most recognizable brand in college football,” he said. “I go back to the former players that are here, the five national championships, 20 national award winners, countless All-Americans, incredible tradition. It’s a dream job.”[8] Golden signed a five-year contract at an undisclosed salary on December 14, 2010. However, due to NCAA rules, Golden did not coach the football team in Miami’s bowl game against Notre Dame but instead focused on recruiting players for 2011.[9][10]
    2011 season

Golden posted a 6–6 record in his first year at Miami. It was only the third time since 1979 that the program had failed to register a winning record.[11] Despite being bowl-eligible, Miami announced on November 20 that it was withdrawing from bowl consideration due to an ongoing investigation into the program’s ties to convicted Ponzi schemeer Nevin Shapiro.[12]
    2012 season

The Hurricanes registered a 7-5 record in 2012 and were in contention for a Coastal Division title for much of the year. However, with the NCAA investigation still not resolved, on November 19 Miami announced it was withdrawing from bowl consideration for a second consecutive season. Reportedly, school officials remembered how Ohio State opted to play in a bowl in the 2011 season with an NCAA investigation still underway only to be banned from bowl consideration the following year.[13]
    2013 season

Golden’s third season at Miami saw more improvement from the previous two. The Hurricanes got off to a 7-0 start, including a win over rival Florida, and were ranked as high as #7 in the AP Poll. Their first loss came to eventual National Champion Florida State, which started a 3-game losing streak for Miami. The Hurricanes ended the regular season at 9-3 (5-3 ACC), good for 2nd place in the Coastal Division. Golden’s team was invited to the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl, which the Canes lost 36-9 at the hands of future ACC foe Louisville.
    2014 season

Golden’s fourth season at Miami was seen as a disappointment by many. The Hurricanes began the season with a 6-3 record, but lost their next 4 games beginning with a heartbreaking home loss to defending National Champions Florida State and concluding with an uninspired defeat at the hands of South Carolina in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl. Golden’s Hurricanes finished the season 6-7 despite being picked by many experts to win the ACC Coastal Division Championship and seven of its players being drafted by NFL franchises.

Another tidbit with the Royals is they had the highest batting average in the majors against pitchers who throw 95+ which is what the Mets young guns do. That makes sense though being that they are a contact hitting team.

  69. ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

I’ve read a ton on here and on the web generally about how/why this turnaround has happened and I don’t think it is one thing but a combination of factors, including injuries, but there is no doubt in my mind that coaching/motivation has been a huge part of this and whilst it is easy to say it is incumbent on a pro to act like one and be one, it just aint that simple in my view.
An example from soccer – my team (Man U) had the equivalent of a Shula as coach for about a quarter (Ferguson) of a century, during which he averaged over 1 trophy per year – an unprecedented record that will never be beaten.
He used fear, man management, tactics and every edge he could get to succeed and he did. He won the premier league, retired, recommended a new coach and his replacement got the team to 7th the following year with the same team (which he lost completely by talking down to them) before being fired.
Ferguson kicked a football boot at David Becham that nearly took his eye out and he had to have stitches. It’s the sort of thing I could imagine Shula doing – maybe even Bellycheat? Certainly not Philbin.
I have seen/heard Campbell go and talk to players more during practices and games than Philbin ever did. He motivates players. He unties them and gets them to play for each other as a team and fight for him and each other. I saw a retweet from a player saying he would run through a wall for Danbo. He’s made big bold changes. He’s shown he’s flexible and listens, implements strategies for the good of all. Football is fun again. Is it any wonder players are more motivated? What we have in the short term is a leader. Will it last or will it fade? Who knows but I’m enjoying this new burst of life to a season which I thought was dead. We are playing with house money.
    Go Fins!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Good post and I can’t disagree. The contrast is too extreme to debate it. LOL

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I don’t see Belichick doing that, I think that’s a stretch. Coaching matters, but where the coaches job and players jobs meld together has to do with motivation. I’m sorry, but it IS incumbent on a professional to get themselves prepared to do their job. In fact, I believe that’s the very definition between amateur and professional. If you need rah-rah to get up to play a game, you’re an amateur. If you can motivate yourself, you’re a true professional.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think it’s so much rah rah with Campbell. I think it’s a communication and trust thing. The players have confidence that Campbell detected the issue as to why this “talented” team wasn’t playing well. It was physical first and go play and do less thinking. Simplify it and enjoy it which is the same reason you play in the first place.

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

I think Belly cheat would do Anything to win – and has. Literally.
I think these pros were motivated. I think they were told to do x, y and z and they would win. So they did it and they lost. They were told to do it again and they lost again. The cycle went on until it got to the point that they worked out that if they did x, y and z they would lose. They needed to do a, b and c. But the coach wanted them to keep doing x, y and z. The definition of insanity is keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.
I think the players realised Philbin had a kind of insanity. They lost faith in the system and the methodology because they got sick and tired of being beaten. As soon as the way things were being done changed and results became positive, the players bought in again.
The players were prepared to fail each week. Now they know they can go out and express themselves more freely we see their desire to win. The difference is subtle, but it’s the only way I can rationalise it. Too many all-pros came here and stunk the place up under Philbin. Suh was the latest and probably the most high profile.

      • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

Sorry UK, I think that revisionist history line about Philbin is BS. If the coach can scheme well enough to win it’s up to the players to execute. If they need some good music in their headphones, or someone to yell at them, than get it. The resources available to these millionaires are endless. A lack of a fire and brimstone coach is excuse making.

What Tim says may be right-even if I’m skeptical (that they trust Campbell to know what was wrong and fix it), but I’m still not tolerant of a player not getting behind their HC for any reason.

Belichick has never raised a hand to a player UK, it’s a stretch to say he’d go the physical route. It simply is.

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

Nothing to do with music, money, yelling, resources. It’s to do with commitment to the run. Get a Billy Turner type in who can block down field and put JJ Watt on his ass. Don’t pass on all three downs from the gun and got three and out. Mix plays up. They have changed from a team who tried to out scheme an opponent to one which now wants to run over them. The MO of this team is different. The practice is different. Surely you can see that?

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

Also, I wasn’t accusing Bellycheat of raising a hand to a player. Fergie kicked a boot across a room when he was mad and it hit a player in the face. No way could a 65+ year old have aimed that with the intention of doing harm – I was using it as an example of losing one’s temper and showing passion – something I suspect Philbin has never done. Not saying either approach is right or wrong, but I strongly suspect there is a link there.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I remember players saying they’d run through a wall for Sparano too FTR. Perspective is important here. I’m not gonna take anything away from what Coach Campbell has accomplished for 2 weeks, but I have serious doubts this can be sustained before his lack of coaching experience starts to reveal itself.

I hope for his sake it does, because I like continuity, and I’d love to see him stick around next season.

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

I think that was Sparano’s downfall – players would run through walls for him but his Xs and Us didn’t pass muster. I too have reservations that this will last and can he develop into true HC material with all that that entails, but I’m enjoying the ride while it lasts.

It’s hard to determine Belichick as a proxy for great coaching success considering most of his winnings came with Tom Brady at the helm (he wasn’t as successful in Cleveland). Yes, he did win 11 with Cassell in 2008 when Brady was lost early on with an injury, but it’s hard to tell if he could sustain that in the long run (Cassell was groomed in the system).
It’s 50/50 IMO as to Belichick being more like Mike Shanahan than a Bill Walsh (who won with multiple QB). Shanahan won big with Elway but not the same without him.

I have talked with many football knowledgeable people and many think what makes him a great coach is he studies film like no body else. Someone explained their thoughts what makes him superior to others is not he only studies the film of each practice he analyzes every frame 15-16 per second
and he knows what is working and not working and why

I agree totally Boulder, and Tim, you’ve been saying that since we first complained about Coyle last year. “What about the offense?” Well, pick one thing to fix, and the obvious thing would’ve been the defense that totally and completely fell off a cliff half way through the season. All I said off a win like we had yesterday and people are talking about Al Golden. Nobody said what someone can and can’t talk about. I’m just surprised is all. As usual everyone can go fuck off! LOL

Not like this place isn’t 60% non-Phin conversations.

I just find it funny how this place is quiet after wins and rabid after losses.

tim, once again all a matter of interpretation. i think this place has been just as busy. the only difference is not a lot of negative talk and fighting. oh yeah, and tell jahn to fuck off
