A Sonny Football Fantasy
The Dolphins have a QB!
by son of a son of a shula
(mid-season 2018)
It’s been a long long time since the Miami Dolphins had this kind of leader and winner at the Quarterback position. You know how long its been, since Dan Marino retired that’s how long. This new young signal
caller has taken the league by storm. From the first day he walked into the huddle he had the command and respect you’d expect a grizzled veteran to have but Mac Notwen has that certain swag and fiery personality to be an instant leader. Although Mac is a vocal leader it is his play on the field that earns him the respect of his team mates. Many have come and gone since Marino retired and its been quite a challenge for the Dolphins to hit on a guy like Mac, a player who refuses to let his team lose and a player no one ever believes he is out of a game. The Dolphins still have some defensive issues that aren’t quite as apparent with this high powered offense averaging 31 points a game.
In the two games thus far that Miami has fallen behind they were able to, under the leadership of
Mac Notwen, put together strong second halves to catch up and subsequently pull out wins late. How refreshing it is for Fins fans who knew they were done when Mac’s predecessor, Ryan Tannehill, was behind in a game. They wanted like hell for the team to fightback to scratch and claw and pull out narrow wins but it just never seemed to happen. Not in the Mac era, those close games seem to always swing in the Fins favor now. Mac always seems to hit on a big play in big moments. Whether he avoids a sack and runs for good yardage or fires a perfect ball over the middle to his Tight End or hits the defense between the eyes with a gorgeous deep ball, he is always making plays and scoring Touchdowns.
Said one jubilant fan leaving from the Dolphins last win, “Where have you been all my life, Mac?”. Dolphin nation is crazy with eagerness and anticipation of what Mac will do in the playoffs.
The last time Miami was in a playoff game was back in 2008, ten grueling long years ago. At 7-1 this Miami team seems a lock to make the playoffs and make some serious noise while there. It is amazing what Mac has done for this team. Without many changes in the offseason the Dolphins were not expected to contend for a division title but Mac Notwen came in and has rejuvenated this team to what many are saying is the spirit of the Undefeated Season era Dolphins. With four 4th quarter comeback wins so far this team has far outdone the Tannehill team of last year who only had one 4th quarter win. The team is inspired, the fans are inspired and the wins are piling up what a great time to be a Dolphin fan.
Slap slap – Son wake up, wake up you’re talking in your sleep
What was I saying?
(laughing) You were going on and on about some QB who is going to make the Dolphins great, ha ha ha
Yeah, just a dream, Tannehill is still our QB?
**********
Back to reality. 3-5 and 0-4 in the division. Everything was supposed to be different.
In the 2015 AFC East the Quarterbacks are as follows:
Pats – Brady – 6th round
Stej – Fitzpatrick
– 7th round
Bills – Tyrod Taylor – 6th round
Dolphins – Tannehill – 1st round 8th overall
Guess who’s 0-4 against the division?
Do you realize the 2015 Dolphins:
Haven’t kicked a meaningful field goal once this entire season.
That the offense hasn’t scored a fourth quarter TD that would either get them back in a game or take a lead late.
**************
Sometimes you gotta win 41-38, we just can never nut up to have a game like that anymore.
Even if you consider that Buffalo got 2 gift TD’s, the blatant holding on Suh and the fumble where we should have had it on the 20, take those away and they still would have won 19-17. We have to score more Touchdowns. Not just piles against shit teams but TD’s every week against anyone.
(It turns out this team doesn’t have Philbin’s personality at all, they have la de da, dum de dum, Ryan Tannehill’s persona. Oy!)
FWIW, I don’t think the team as a whole is bad or even should be bad. I look around the league and analyze teams rosters as they play and I always see primarily the same types of teams across the league. Some vets, some stars, some journeymen, some guys we all know from drafts as we see what they’ll become, and a lot of unknowns and undrafted guys. Man for man we stack up with every other team in the league. “It’s in the way that you use it”
At this point, although I really like Dan Campbell, my wish is that the Dolphins bring a Prodigal Son’s Son home. Son of a son. Mike Shula is ready to fill his father’s shoes and lead the Dolphins to glory. Mike is doing now what his father taught him a long time ago. And that is to let the players play, play to their strengths, have better athletes and use them to win in a system that fits THEM and not some scheme where square pegs are constantly forced into round holes.
The biggest problem with trying to bring Mike Shula in is that he might be busy until early February. Consequently Dan Campbell is here as is Mike Tannenbaum and perhaps the hiring of Mike Shula would see the continued employment of Dan Campbell in an Asst Head Coach capacity if he were open to it. Mike Shula is ready and he should be brought to Miami, where he belongs.
(a little loose with the prodigal son analogy, work with me here please)
Son wonders what it may have been like with Keuchly, Eifert and Cousins with 2 years behind Moore…

Stats and rankings don’t play the game, players do. It’s the impact certain guys have on their team that many times can determine a win or a loss. So what about Cam’s stats or rankings there’s no way the Panthers even with a good running game and a defense that is playing great are undefeated unless Cam is the leader of that team.
He’s also led the team when they were 3-8 last season at one point.
Panthers have real good coaching Ron Rivera, Mike Shula, & Sean McDermott.
They’ve also drafted well and did well in FA.
Helps to that their team is tied for 3rd in Turn Over differential, Phins are tied for 23rd I think. 😦
Cam played hurt (badly) all year last year but when December rolled in he carried that team to 4-0 in the month then on to a playoff win.
Just checked, Miami is tied for 24th.
Panthers are +6
Phins are -4 ….ugh!
I think the Tanny debate is about as pointless as a debate which is better vaginal or oral pleasures.
I dont see the Tanny from last year nor an improvement on the one from last year. The, he isnt the guy, or is the guy i guess has to wait until last year to see where we go from here. Im hoping this is a one yer fluke, but he does absolutely need to improve on his pocket presence, sliding/stepping up in the pocket, and his pre and post snap reads. He also still has no touch pass ability. He was and has been bad at those since day one without much of an improvement.
His accuracy has always been decent short to mid field, until this year. He improved every year until this one. This year he throws behind people, he only about 50% of the time has real zip on the ball. His completion percentage this year is mostly due to tee balling his throws with a bunch of behind the LOS throws. His yardage numbers is on the backs of our receiver and their good YAC numbers. Those areas, he has gotten worse at.
I think he is a bright dude, i think he has a strong work ethic, decent leadership ability, and i do think down deep he has the skills to compete at this level, he just has to keep improving and the time is running on on belief that he will get there. Again i think he needs a young guys behind him to push him, i think competition will be healthy for him, and we as a team have to prepare for the worst even if things do turn out for the best.
Son, no doubt Cam has been good for that team.
But here is an interesting perspective; if Tanny was in Charlotte & Cam was here do you think either would be doing the same?
Miami wouldn’t be 8-0 & it’s super likely that Panthers wouldn’t be 3-5 if they swapped QB’s….just sayin, It has always been and still is a team game. 😉
I think there absolutely would be a stark difference in each teams record. Take away Carolina’s “juice” and they become flat and lose games late, put Cam here and we battle and scratch out wins late in games.
I guess my greater point about Cam vs Tannehill is that Cam wills his team to win, makes crucial plays in crunch time, despite not having gaudy numbers he just wins. Meanwhile Tannehill, at least body language wise, doesn’t seem bothered, pissed, or even let down by a late pick or bad series like its someone else’s responsibility to be the heart and soul of the winning. We never see a big play when we have a chance to either get back in a game or take a lead.
As I said above – we haven’t kicked a meaningful field goal this entire season
we haven’t scored a fourth qtr TD that would have either put us back in a game or given us the lead this entire season.
agreed. Tanny doesn’t seem to show much emotion win or lose. have you ever seen him try to in peoples faces or get them fired up? He didn’t win shit in college either. Cam won in college and is winning in the NFL.
Last week Tanny had a couple deep completions to get us back in the game, then our BS play calling with Lazor stalls the drive and/or our Defense & ST’s then negates the good that just happened on offense.
Like shoveling shit against the tide.
I do acknowledge that some of that is involved no question
Remember we had 3 drives of over 80 yards even though our ST penalties kept pinning us deep in our own territory.
But redzone play calling keeps mucking it up, and then the defense does it’s total collapse after that.
This totally sucks!!! smh
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero
DeVante Parker has been limited in practice all week. He doesn’t get a lot of snaps even when he’s full go in practice. Catch my drift?
We are at that stark reality point that our team is a conglomeration of CaCa.
But I still maintain that our Coordinators, current schemes in place, and in game play calling are well below industry standards. So this is what ya get….3-5.
I believe it’s that more than a lack of quality players. We have the horses to compete.
Exactly, that’s why we were preseason favorites by the media to be at the top.
But what not many realized was there has been a very flawed system in place on both sides of the ball that has handcuffed these talented players.
Is why Suh led the revolt to get Coyle out, but not much can be done with the green horn Anarumo midseason or with Saunder midseason as far as changing the play book all around, so the hope was little tweaks here and there would suffice, but it really hasn’t due to how flawed the scheme were to begin with.
Its so very frustrating watching head scratching calls every week, even on Defense too!
I also have a problem with what appears to be apathy on Tannehill’s part. To be fair though, everyone handles adversity differently, and some people try their best to remain even keel, but I can’t lie when I say I’d be happy if I saw Tannehill knock over a cooler and go on a rampage after tough loss.
I’m sure he voices his displeasure…ya don’t need to play to the camera’s with a childish temper tantrum to let your team know that you’re pissed.
But I see what you’re saying. So if he went on a rampage would that make the team any better at blocking or stopping the run? lol 😉
No, and it wouldn’t be for my sake, it would be a release because he’s so pissed, but it would show me at the very least, that he really is pissed off!. lol
I really liked Karlos Williams as well, and included him in many of my drafts. Getting Ajayi in the 5th was a nice consolation prize though.
We’ll see on Ajayi, he had one good game when we were behind and the opposing defense thought we’d be passing as we’ve typically done in the past.
I hope the Ajayi trend continues as well.
Me too. I was looking at Williams as a 5th or 6th RD pick, but I was thrilled we got Ajayi in the 5th. If he was healthy all season, he would have helped us.
Anyone catching those passes from those QBs winning those games by themselves? Yeah I thought so. 😉
Mac Notwen throws it up and goes and catches it too!
Must be the Oinkos yogurt that superman eats.
Excuse my many typos above.
As I type I find myself pounding the keyboard with my fists and getting funny looks by a couple people in the office….Need bigger keys….lol
Karlos Williams hasn’t done much this year outside of playing us. 😦
You should be Suh’d for that comment. Everything is different now. I say we promote Suh to DC in 2016.
He’s averaging 6.2YPC and has 5 TD’s, but yes, he did a fair amount of damage against us.
21-220 and 3 TD against us.
Mac Notwen also rushes the passer, stops the run, forces turnovers, leads his team in rushing, kicks and punts, handles returns and blocks for himself. He’s amazing!
Don’t forget he coaches the team & is in charge of player personnel and acquisition as well.
All I know is this constant fucking losing sucks.
Agreed!
I’d that really all you know, Randy? 🤔
*is
I’d like to note that everyone here seems to really like and want Bill Polian right?
As a czar I’d be for that.
Son, I always see Cam smiling, I don’t see him going nuts yelling or anything. I really don’t think that means anything. Eli Manning has won two SBs and he’s basically even keel all the time.
flacco is pretty even keeled as well. So is wilson.
So is Rodgers.
Well Bill Polian has repeatedly said over the last couple years that he “loves” Tannehill.
So as I and others have continually said, let’s keep building around him. It’s really all we got at this point anyhow.
Building around Tanny also includes competent coaching besides just better players.
pipe dream. Mr T is going nowhere.
I tend to agree.
Boulder, I’m not dreaming of Polian in Miami, just making a point that as well as he’s respected even here, that he really likes Tanny, which is to say that our QB is not the 800 pound gorilla in the room of this franchise.
as many have said tanny is not the main problem with this team. Our defense, lack of rushing attack and the scheme is the main problem.
Bad beer, good PSA:
Majority Belgian owned beer company now.
But what’s really sad is the way vets are being pumped full of bad pharma drugs as well as vilified as gun loving domestic terrorists by the left and by this sick admin that’s in office.
put the crack pipe down. you’ll live longer.
Wow- why does it always have to devolve into “the liberals” this or “this administration” that? What was being said when the other party was in power? In this instance, it was just Americans acknowledging the sacrifices made by service members! 🇺🇸
tim,
I’ve seen rodgers get animated on the sidelines. I remember a couple of years ago James Jones ran the wrong route and I thought rodgers was gonna clock him. He was pretty pissed.
That’s rare though. He’s even keeled most of the time. I’ve also seen Tanny pissed off where he couldn’t seem to shake his frustration pacing back and forth and he crushed not one but two paper cups and threw them to the ground very hard.

—————————————————-
I wouldnt sweat Armando’s comments right now. He’s like a fan and gets pissy about the team then he rails on it like…….well a fan would.
I like Bill Polian, but I’m not sure he wants to take over an entire operation at his age.
Not sure either. He’d probably be more like a consultant and hire people he trusts can do the job.
That would be fine with me. I like him and respect him.
Cam has had one of the worst attitudes in the NFL, but he turned it around. He has a span early in his career when he was definitely trending down, he had a shitty sulky little attitude, like a child and then Steve Smith straightened his ass out for him. Steven Smith doesnt take Newton under his wing and im sure we are talking about how it would be great to get Newton to come here and be Tanny’s backup. Tanny needs to get his shit straight too. He has been coddled a good bit since being here and i think he needs a wake up call. Drafting a QB would be a good start.
giving him that contract a year early was clearly a mistake.
Its got a really big out clause in it though for year 3 though, this being year 1 of it, so there is plenty of time to get him set straight and/or get out the following year if he doesn’t respond.
Tim
That’s crazy, 2 cups, really hard??? He’s a madman!!!!
LOL
LOL @ tim and 2 paper cups.
One Tim 2 Cups.
LOL, gnarly.
Tanny was so pissed that one time, he probably could have even crushed THESE paper cups:
For piggy- and whoever else is interested:
Aww, that’s very cute.
Excuse my mini rant earlier on they way our vets are treated by the establishment, both past & present.
It wasn’t a political thing. It is just fact and yet the profiteers on both sides of the isle that coddle to the MIC could care less.
I’m still upset over my luncheon with some fellow vets yesterday and hearing some stories about guys I know and others that are really badly messed up and not supported in many ways.
But yes, I applaud them all for the sacrifices they have given well beyond what I gave.
God Bless our troops!
That’s all I was saying! And I did the same thing yesterday- posted an article from months ago that I should have checked, but on the heels of Veterans Day, I just got pissed and posted. No harm, no foul.
Thanks.
Hold off on purchasing those #11 Parker jerseys. 😦

Both the Dolphins and DeVante Parker agree that his surgically repaired left foot is improving and that he might be able to contribute Sunday when Miami visits Philadelphia, even if the foot isn’t perfect.
It may never be.
Parker said Friday that doctors cannot guarantee his foot will ever be pain-free.

Yea defense has nothing to do with it LOL.
Very few can do what Rodgers, Brees, Brady, PManning do
I like Cam Newton but let’s be real.
Panthers would have been run out of Seattle without a chance to even be in it had it not been for their D effort that day.
That D gives them a chance every week not to mention their coaches don’t come into each week with an unbalanced attack (>2/3 passing).
Hell, just look at Seattle… Wilson had 5 turnovers in the conf championship and his team still advanced thanks to the D and amazing luck.
When a real D with a set of disciplined LB coupled with a D coordinator who knows how to mix up man + zone and give his unit something better than pre-snap vanilla formations then I’ll bother focusing on QB. Same for the situation at OL & TE. It remains worse against league average at the position than Tanny vs league average at his position.
Tanny is at 13 TD, 9 INT through 8 games and thus he’s pretty much on pace TD wise from last year (27 TD). INT is higher of course which is a disappoitnment but his completion % is 64% (down from last year’s 67%) but he’s throwing 11.7 yards per completion which is higher than at any point since his rookie year.
his YPC is due to the beast receiver that Landry is. Matthews also has done a lot after catch and Miller has been amazing as a reciever. His passes are VERY short passes that have been turned into massive gains. I dont think his stats at all reflect what a disappointment he has been this year. A year he seemed really on track to blow the doors off.
GDP,
Sucks but this is why I shy away from any kind of injuries present in draft prospects. Yes, injuries can happen at any moment but drafting speed guys with injuries to their low body is kinda asking for it in the risk department. Some teams can risk it more than others and with Miami’s current situation, they probably could have avoided it someone but they were kinda gambling as most have to at this stage.
You want to draw comparisons to RT and this season, just look at the Falcons 2 years when their OL was in shambles and their RB situation dicey…even with the big targets (i know they had injuries there too) Matt Ryan had issues and was facing some lows in his career.
Our OL isnt nearly the liability it has been over last few years. OL really isnt that bad this year. Its far from great but improved for sure.

Yes, in this context I agree with what you are getting at……these media guys making it sound like being pain free means anything in terms of player sucess…
Remember when Troy Aikman was around and all those reports about him getting pain killers shot in his back in the lockerroom during games to get by?
Yeah its just a reporter ploy for us to go “oh noes not another blown first round pick” which isnt hard because alot of us already are on the edge of that every draft lol.
I just hope Parker can play thru it, clearly he hasn’t so far in practice. Coaches seem very reluctant to get him involved in the game to any extent.
al,
just stop being rationale. that doesnt matter here. it doesnt matter if the defense gives up 5 100 yard rushers, tanny should ‘will’ his team to win and over come that. dont you get it. it is ok for the players on defense to not all be superstars and just average players but tanny is suppose to be something he isnt

YAC is suppose to come from receiver ability…the idea is to get the ball into their hands with space to bust it loose. No QB gets a majority of their YAC from throwing over the top.

if parker is always going to have a foot issue i bet rexy will give up all next years draft picks for parker. so he can just hold kiss his foot to make it all better.

Yeah, YAC is receiver ability. Im saying his yardage is all YAC and not from passing deep, ie more because of the ability of the receivers instead of his.

No i meant more the regression we see isnt solely because of bad protection. He did more, and looked better last year, and the year before with much worse protection.
TBH it isnt BAD by NFL standards, a lot of teams right now are much worse off. We are probably around middle of the road maybe even slightly higher that middle. Ill see if i can dig up some data but i think thats because we have become condition to believe the OL is putrid and cause of all our problems, it just isnt true.
Yeah, YAC is receiver ability. Im saying his yardage is all YAC and not from passing deep, ie more because of the ability of the receivers instead of his.

RBs have scored 24 PPG against the Dolphins.
Which RB is gonna be facing Miami this week?
Then ya add unto that the points that WR’s & TE’s score on us.
Yet our offense, namely QB, is of constant ridicule.

The Eagles have ruled out guard Josh Andrews and safety Jerome Couplin, Andrews with a head injury and Couplin with a shoulder issue.

Philly leads the league with 20 takeaways….Ugh!
The good thing is they’ve given it away 15x.
I’ll be looking for our Defense to make plays and keep our offense in the game.
Otherwise it’ll be a bash Tannehill fest here on Sunday and beyond. 🙄
Only if he shits the bed like other weeks.
Well they also turn it over more than we do 15-12. The problem is we don’t force enough turnovers only 8 – 6 INT and 2 FUM.
Yup, and some of our Takeaways have been negated by the yellow flags.

aha, thanks for the tip, bro.
D, yes you’re correct, Tanny shits the bed every week. Too bad we didn’t move up and draft RG3, or wait and draft Cousins, future HOF’ers right there that carry their teams.
Im not saying we shoulda drafted anyone else, but right now Tanny has just as much potential to be a HOF as they do. Same for pro-bowl chance. Or chance to be a true franchise QB.
We do have other WRs
Mathews has been on fire this year, Landry, Stills
TE cameron seems to be on the same page too.
What the hell is it with Jennings?
Parker I’m not worried yet, from seeing the plays he has made
He is going to be above average…
Im really not trying to sound like a Tanny hater. Im sure if you go back and review my posts from last year you will see defense after defense of him. Im being fair as i can but what i see is what i see and i wont back off of it because i get lumped in with other you guys feel have always had it in for him.
Go research a year back of my posts, hell go back to beginning of this year and you will see i have always felt good about him, things change and opinions can change with them. He has fallen into a prove it to me spot with me.
I still hold out hope this is just a down year but, im not going to make excuses from him just because he got a contract that makes us want to believe something that isnt currently true.
Fair enough, I can respect that. But I can’t respect your comment on him ‘if he shits the bed like every other week’…..
I’m not saying Tanny is elite or beyond reproach, but he’s been one of few who have been the rock for this team since he got here.
It’s a small group right? Tanny, Wake, Grimes, Jones, Landry & Miller now.
D, Tanny has had 3 bad games in the games where we got blown out even counting the Jets game. He’s also had three 100+ and two 90+ rating games. He had a 100.3 QBR in the Bills game even though we lost 33-17. That game was on the defense.
We’re 31st in run defense, 20th in sacks and 27th in takeaways. That’s the glaring problem. The defense has been the major disappointment with the offense being highly inconsistent but we also know Lazor causes a lot of this by not sticking to core plays we do well and tries to throw in all kinds of screwy plays. Just stick with what works and rinse and repeat.
23rd in points allowed as well.
QBR probably doesnt take into account his fumble that was a pivot point in the game. QBR is simple process of ints vs TD and comp percentage + yardage. So a behind the LOS to Landry that he turns into a big gainer is big QB for a pass a HS QB could make. Eyes man, you got them, we arent watching a different QB, give praise if ya want, he doesnt deserve it.
big QBR i meant.
He was hit in the pocket when he fumbled that happens when a QB gets hit and that’s one play. That play did not put into effect a notion that the run defense has to shit the bed.
All QBs throw short passes like that which I’m not a big fan of but Lazor loves those plays where he bunches up WRs so the defense can load up on on side and also blow it up at key times. Part of that is because of a lack of faith in pass pro so we hamper ourselves before we even run the play. When Tanny has time he goes down the field with the ball and has had success.
Also very few behind the LOS passes have gone for big gains.
You guys keep pointing to defense causing the offense problems. Its true it puts you in a bind to get caught up, but dont ya think the three and outs, ineffectiveness in turning red-zone visits into TD’s make it so the defense is always under pressure to do everything. Dont you think they get worn down when they have to turn around and run back on the filed in a minute after they just walked off?
I said we’ve been highly inconsistent on offense but it’s not all because of Tanny. I think Lazor is a big issue. He puts us in bad situations with how he runs the offense.
No Lazor is a HUGE issue, and yes thats correct, but Tannys throws arent on Lazor and they have been bad. Not being able to trow a touch pass, be it dropping the pass over the defense in a screen or a back cornder fade int he endzone isnt Lazor. His statue impressions int he pocket arent Lazor. Lazor is bad, Tanny has also not been good this year.
Glad he set an NFL record for consecutive completions or else you’d really be on his case….LOL

Aside from this year yes. This year he isnt a person to lean on. Im not ready to become Randy just yet, but he needs to start showing something, by this time next year without some serious changes i’ll probably be in the boat that he will never be the QB i was hoping he would be.
ESPN’s new made-up QBR stat has Tanny dead last out of all starting QBs.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/qbr
It takes into account all the important factors like the number of women wearing hats during the game.
And how many Helen’s are in the crowd.
I think you get bonus points for wearing a cock ring while you play too. Kinda dangerous thing to do so i kinda get the bonus points.
Lol, and of course the triple bonus points for number of Helens in the crowd wearing hats and cockrings.
That’s all funny and stuff, but each starting qb was rated using the same criteria. Would you feel differently about the rating if it had him listed in the top ten? And personally I think the qbr is crap because ESPN made it up to justify their experts opinions, not because of what they measure.
I wonder where Tanne ranks in qb’s with the most defenders.. Probably second, behind Brady.
But Tanne is not the problem (and apparently not the solution, either).
Trypod- you’re a bad fan!
GD, this is the quote from me, when ya put quotes around it it should be a cut n paste…. I prefer to stand by my words.

Only if he shits the bed like other weeks.
And other weeks he has shit the bed. I didnt say every week. The Houston game he looked amazing, even though a lot of it again was YAC courtesy of Landry and Miller. Tennessee game he looked good. Thats like 2 games out of 8 man, thats not good enough to praise him when his other 6 have looked bad.
Ok, then he takes the blame for when the team as a whole losses games. That’s how it works in the media and with most fair weather fans. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
I too hope we win more games, maybe he’ll get credit for those, or maybe the YAC guys will, who knows, but we need to play as a team on both sides of the ball and collectively beat the other team, Period!
If they get rid of Lazor if we fail in Philly, then i guess we will know more. Id almost be ok with another loss if it got him out of here.
I don’t see us winning in Philly, so hopefully that’s Lazor’s gallows pole game.
If the Eagles beat us up that will show us where this team is at because the Eagles aren’t that good.
“but Tannys throws arent on Lazor and they have been bad.”
D, you make it sound like he hasn’t played well at all. Sorry I see more good from Tanny than bad. I see more bad from how we run our offense than good though. Like abandoning the run game, taking Miller out of the game, not utilizing the TEs more. The formations dictate this nonsense. Our TEs have 32 catches thus far with Cameron aboard. Why even sign a guy like him if he’s not going to be a major factor in the offense? It’s ridiculous.
Cameron is asked to block more with our porous OL.
What is sickening with the play calling is the Phins rank 2nd in YPC, yet next to last or dead last in Rushing attempts.
That screams bad Coordinator!
GD, we all know we ditch the run way too early and often. It’s a chronic problem and it’s glaring. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked away from the TV saying that’s right Lazor, after a 9 run under center go right back to shotgun and call a pass play because we couldn’t possibly string two runs together or get a yard. SMH
I see what you are saying. And I don’t disagree with most of it. But most if not all on here who are not tanneshills have not blamed him for losing games; they have held him responsible for not winning them. Fair? Don’t know- qb’s generally get the glory when a team wins- I suppose it’s fair they get clobbered when they lose. All I know is I do not blame him for losses, but I think it’s fair to point out shortcomings in his game without people acting as if someone is insulting their mother. But I weary of this topic- the shills and the kills will never see eye to eye on him, much like the Henne haters and the HDS.
Try, fair enough. I’m not saying Tanny takes no blame for not playing well at times. He’s part of a bad team right now and everyone has to take some blame, some more than others.
By the way, Tanny and Henne are nothing alike. Henne never reached Tanny’s level. if we ran the ball and played defense like we did when Henne was here we’d be winning more games.
It’s the most convenient way I could think of to illustrate the divide- no, Henne was not as cerebral as Tanne is, nor as athletic- he just had a big arm.
Tim Knight says:
November 13, 2015 at 4:04 pm (Edit)
That’s rare though. He’s even keeled most of the time. I’ve also seen Tanny pissed off where he couldn’t seem to shake his frustration pacing back and forth and he crushed not one but two paper cups and threw them to the ground very hard.
Hilarious! Good stuff Tim!
🙂
Sigh….Looks like the world is going crazy again…. 😦
Good luck, Paris.
Try,
You’ve got me all wrong, bro. I couched the QBR thing in a joke, but everything that you and D are saying about Tanny, I pretty much feel the same way. I’m just not debating it anymore. Nobody is changing their mind. Remember the Henne debates? lol
Personally I think we’ve just seen Tanny’s ceiling, which is an average QB that can play good at times, but more often than not will come up small in big moments. Either way it doesn’t matter because our defense is a complete mess, our OC is about as bad as it can get, and Tanny is our best option at QB and probably will be for the foreseeable future.
Sorry I misunderstood. You are where I am on this- his ceiling has been reached.
On another note, I have the first rothfuss book in the queue; just gotta get up the gumption to start it.
Try, you’re not a bad fan, nor is Randy or anyone. A fan is a fan. We all see things differently.
I’m just puzzled by how quick folks/fans jump on a QB when the team is not doing well. But it’s always been that way it seems.
I’m sure some are puzzled why I see things differently, but at the end of the day we are all fans of the Dolphins as frustrating as that may be.
Go Phins! Play some damn team ball and win as a team!
I wasn’t calling out you or anyone in particular. I’m even open to the idea that he gets unfairly criticized. I just think we sometimes take observational criticism too personally.
Agreed, which is why I wanted to make that statement that I appreciate all you Phin fans.
We all are just trying to put a finger on what is wrong is all.
Herd, yes, it sucks seeing what’s going on in France right now. Soon to be ramping up in the US.
Yet people that stand against open borders & PC BS are made out as paranoid anti-social lunatics….SMH!
Trump is right, build a damn wall with a small door for the ones that want to come ehere legally.
Disclaimer: I’m not touting Trump as president, but he does make good points once in awhile. 😉
Did Drew Brees hit his ceiling in SD? There are other examples but let’s just stick with that one.
Nope, he didn’t. Did Henne reach his ceiling in Miami? There are other examples but let’s just stick with that one. 😉
Yeah but Henne showed very little improvement year to year and Tanny is so far ahead of him it’s not worthy of comparison.
Archie Manning was considered a great QB but never had a winning season with the Saints because his teams weren’t good. QBs can’t lead a team when other bad stuff is happening on a regular basis.
Know this too, I’m not saying Tanny is elite but he’s absolutely competent in playing competitive football if other areas would make some fuckin plays. The defense gets gashed too often and doesn’t create turnovers. Welcome to the mid 80s Marino years. He couldn’t do it either.
Think about this, take Suh out of the lineup and what’s the difference? That’s the problem, with him in there it’s not changing things. That screams talent issue. Fuck the whole scheme thing, a 4-3 defense isn’t suppose to be complicated. We’re not that good across the board, We have some good players in all phases and a lot of average or less than sprinkled throughout the team and much of that could be due to youth and players having to play more before they’re ready. But that’s where we are.
What’s going on Paris is horrible. Time to eradicate these fucks!
we blew up a refining oil plant yesterday. This was a money maker for isis plus jihad john was killed yesterday. Russian plane is believed to be a terrorist act.
Hard to eradicate something our government/PTB have created. This is a mess that they wanted. Get used to it for now cause it’ll likely get a lot worse before it gets better my friend.
our F15’s arrived in Turkey this week for syria air support while the russians have their latest su34 fighter planes flying sorties against isis supposedly. This is going to get real interesting fast. SU 34 was built because of F15 dominance 20 years ago. F15 of course has had many electronic improvements through the years.
Yeah, BO can’t stand that Putin is hitting ISIL targets when he kept saying we were going to do that….wink wink. Instead we kept arming them in efforts to take out another country’s leader that won’t go along with the central banks and our oil interests.
Funny thing is, Assad is somewhat Christian friendly and not just wanting a Muslim only country.
Bro, we didn’t create radical Islamic beliefs, it’s always been there and has been for thousands of years. There’s just new ways of doing stuff to ramp it up. The U.S. wasn’t responsible for Pharaoh and thousands of other conquerors either. Humans are power hungry and we’ve been doing this since the dawn of our existence. Technology has just changed how it can happen. Cell phones are more effective than chariots and swords.
Try,
No worries, man. I think you’ll really enjoy the Rothfuss books. In 19 years when he releases the next one, we’ll get to read the ending! lol
Tim, I’m talking about our government along with others behind forming the recent modern day terror organizations to serve as our minions by proxy. It’s been going on since Mujahideen, Taliban, Al Qaeda, and now ISIS.
Once the cold war ended, the MIC had to have something to go after, so they’ve created this war on terror as the new boogieman. It’s worked very well to facilitate their objectives even when it’s reported often that it hasn’t….and sometimes the boogieman bites the hand that feeds.
So correct, Nothing new here. Men with evil, selfish, greedy intentions want control & power which equates wealth for them.
It’s great work when you can get it…lol smh
Welcome to planet earth. This is the world we live in and it’s always been this way. History is predicated on war after war. That’s how we live. Wild animals do the same thing but mostly just to survive. Humans do it to prosper and at the cost of others with callous intent.
Nothing has changed, we just have more options and tools to cause destruction and fear.
Yep, and that’s why it will all come to an end in time as I’ve read & believe. 😉
This earth is not big enough to support everyone. That is why we have wars. Read up on the baath party. Who supplied the weapons to iraq during the iran/iraq war. When we overthrew iraq we threw well our Ambassador to iraq threw out all the police out of gov’t with no way of supplying their families with a means of supporting their family. The only thing they had was weapons that was supplied to them. Baath party is now trying to find a way of supporting themselves.
Tim,
Our team has major problems throughout. Tanny has progressed from year to year (until this year), he doesn’t kill puppies, nor does he eat babies. I don’t think Tanny is garbage (like Henne is), but honestly going back to last year, my eyes tell me he doesn’t play consistently, nor well in tight moments.
Maybe the team sucking so hard has impeded his ability to progress this year, but I think it’s very possible he’s reached his ceiling. I’m not declaring it from on high, just saying I think it’s possible from what I’ve seen because I still see some of the same problems he’s had for years.
We can go back and forth, with our individually plucked stats and comparisons backing our positions, but what’s the point? He’s not our only, or even our biggest problem right now. I think he’s our QB for at least 2 more years so I hope you’re right and I am wrong.
He’s definitely reached his ceiling with Lazor as coordinator. Quite frankly I’m shocked he’s done as well as he has.
I’ve never seen the likes of what we see each week with the plays that are put in. It reminds of some gimmicky college team.
Agreed, until we jettison Lazor and his gimicky schemes and putrid play calling, this offense is doomed to failure.
Thank you ya big ape 😀
I’ve never looked at Tanny as a gunslinging prospect and I still don’t. He’s a guy that tries to be efficient and control the game, not make extraordinary throw after throw like a Marino. But think about the QBs who have won in history and tell me that he can’t do that too. I believe he can, I don’t think a QB ever reaches his ceiling in his 4th season with his kind of talent. Most are better in their 30s like pitchers.
The issue once again with our fanbase is we have been waiting for a winning team for so long we can’t accept we’re not there yet. We already fired Philbin who was the reason, so now we must pick at the next one up. We’re not a good team. The front office overrated us and marketed us as such. That’s why I think Tannenbaum could be on the hot seat. Ross could be thinking everything he told me to do I did and this is what I got? He had it wrong too. Time to start over.
Bob Ross says be happy and always go back to the drawing board.
I don’t see him as a gunslinger either. To me QB position is entirely about how you play in pressure moments. I don’t care what your stats are or how you play in blowouts. It’s the tight games, 3rd downs and 4th quarters that matter. If you can’t play well in tight games and in 4th quarters, then you’re doomed to never make it deep into the playoffs.
To me, that is what determines the ceiling. His talent isn’t in question.
Time to go home.
Last word.

Amen….you can do it. I have faith you’ll see the light!
Kong, you have to look at every situation in a game based on how you got there. Some situations are difficult to get out of and Tanny has done that and sometimes he hasn’t. But when you constantly are in bad field position which we seem to always be in after a KO or punt, we’re already challenging ourselves right off the bat. Happens every week right? Hey look Tanny is inside the 10 1st and 10 in shotgun. This ought to be fun. Ugh! It’s like watching a movie over and over. How does this not change?

GD, I’ve told you I’ve talked to God or the thought of the presence of God throughout my life. So if God doesn’t accept how I communicate with him and not by the rules of scripture which I believe is all human created, he should understand because he created me to think like that. 😉
Remember a monk one day was reading scripture and realized bad handwriting said celibate when it really said celebrate. LOL
Maybe it’s because God is a woman and she thinks I talk to her like she’s a man. But I really don’t do that. LOL
Good stuff. Never stop communicating in earnest and asked for him to reval himself in a way that you’ll know, ask for discernment and for help in finding the truth.
You’re doing great. It’s a one on one personal relationship that requires building trust and love, just like any other relationship that succeeds in making us happy.

GD,
My church believes that prophecy has a great war with Islam as the beginning of end times. The West utterly destroys Islamic armies which is exactly what would happen in any scenario. Considering the ME has been the site of constant hate and war, the prophecies could fit but they think it is nigh. Enough from me on that.
On Tanny, I agree with many on here. Not a major problem considering all the ones we have, but the guy just isn’t getting some aspects of his positions. He also just hasn’t taken charge yet and seems oblivious to certain needed knowledge. Considering our coaches have been oblivious over the years as well…it’s just another disappointing aspect of a disappointing team. I do think he has the tools to physically dominate but will he ever do it? Or have a solid OL while we speak on this?
Tanny may not have played a lot of QB in college but he has played a lot of QB over the years. Step up young man and take the reins. This team wants you to lead the way(really needs it).
Sometimes it just takes time. Why has Brady been able to thrive with the worst, injury riddled Oline, in the league? For one he gets rid of the ball so fast the Oline doesn’t matter that much, and the offense they run is cheating at its finest. All they do is run pick routes and rub routes and bubble screens where they block before the ball is caught… To stop these guys you need to take a play out of their own playbook.
Some might remember the last time they played the Saints. When close to the goal line they lined up 2 defenders in front of Graham and just held him at the line. That’s what I’d do with their WRs, just hold them at the line, if they call holding, oh well, do it every play and they won’t call it every play, they’ll get tired of it soon. If the cheats are going to cheat, cheat back.
I agree. Only team that consistently cheats and they know the hometown refs will bail them out most of the time.
Wow! Byron Scott has to be the worst coach I’ve ever seen, he makes guys like Camoron look like a genius. Lakers leading 19-9 in Dallas, so what does he do, he takes out the first team, at the end of the first qtr Dallas leads 28-24. They’re the worst rebounding team in the league, so what does he do he continues to play his starting lineup of 3 guards.
New Age, prophecy is nothing more than people predicting what they see brewing. It’s nothing more than that. Some people think deeper than others is all.
Hey look, those guys down there in the valley look like they’re up to no good. A few weeks later those guys down there in the valley are doing no good and violating the rights of others. Prophecy!? How did you see that oh amazing one, I’m floored? Really?!!!
From the dawn of time humans have shared their personal Gods with each other. Then there is the battle of who’s God is real?
What we really need is the real God to come down and say “Hey!!!!, knock it off!!!”
No worries, that is coming. Just be ready when he does and be on the right team. 😉
Well if it’s the Messiah who has not revealed himself yet you might be in trouble. LOL
🙂
Seems like the jets took a cheat out of the cheats cheatbook last night. Rexie was bitching about the headset going out in the 2nd half, causing the Bills to use all 3 of their Timeouts early. The jets get it, if you can’t beat ’em, cheat ’em. Why not, that seems to be the way of the NFL, I mean the 2 teams that played in the SB last yr are the 2 biggest cheaters. Seattle with their D that holds all game long and their PEDs…
gd,
if there was a god, then the dolphins would have won a sb and brady would be a cripple. lmfao

I agree that a lot of it can just be dialed in. Man is his own worst enemy so it can be pretty easy.
Tim above: Hey look Tanny is inside the 10 1st and 10 in shotgun.
Enough of this QB not under center BS, the shit isn’t working, yet every week there we go, back to what doesn’t work.
It’s crazy right? It makes me hate the sport and that sucks!
Tim touched on sonething that I was thinking and would love if one if you stat finding gurus could find. Where do we rank this year in avg starting field position?? It seems betwee dumb penalties and lack of turnovers we very seldom start past our 20 yd line and a lot of times worsr than that. It has to be tough mentally as well as ohysically always having to attempt to drive 80 plus yds for a td, thus some ofthe lack of finish. And yes poorhead scratching playcalling adds to it , but anyone ?? Where do we rank ?? Curious….
Toba, Phins rank 25th in average starting field position from the 24.82 yard line.
29th in amount of plays per drive and 29th in avg TOP per drive. Too many 3 & outs I presume.
But 13th in yards per drive & 13th in drive success.
But 26th in points per drive.
We need to run more and we need to finish drives in the redzone better!

I have almost zero bloodlust; I see things and think “I’d like to strangle that bastard”, but after a little time, my blood loses its heat and I feel more rational. Even in those moments, I don’t think I would actually hurt the individual. However, from my first introduction until the latest reports of his likely death, the person named “Jihadi John” did not qualify for this dispensation. I’m actually somewhat angry he wasn’t captured alive. He needed to be tried and executed by some authority. I believe I could have taken his life with no more discomfort than I experience brushing my teeth.
What happened yesterday in Paris could very well be the beginning of something we have not seen before. I truly hope the resolve to see this through to the end is finally discovered; get rid of the politics that have divided a concerted, united effort and commit to ending this.
It’s going to take a worldwide effort, and a cooperative effort to thwart this problem. Really, every country should be involved, as these ruthless animals are recruiting from everywhere. No country should feel like “This is not my problem”.
You are exactly right. Even the fruckin Iranians should get involved.
iran has been on the forefront of this war.
Ok- involved in a concerted effort- how’s that?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ba'ath_Party_%28Iraqi-dominated_faction%29
In June 2003, the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) banned the Ba’ath party. The additional step the CPA took—banning all members of the top four tiers of the Ba’ath Party from the new government, public schools and colleges—was criticized for blocking too many experienced people from participation in the new government. Thousands were removed from their positions, including doctors, professors, schoolteachers and bureaucrats. Many teachers lost their jobs, sparking protests at schools and universities. Under previous Ba’ath-party rule, one could not reach a high position in the government or a school without becoming a party member; party membership was a prerequisite for university admission. While many Ba’athists joined for ideological reasons, many more were members because it was a way to better their options. Following pressure by the US, the policy of de-Ba’athification was addressed by the Iraqi government in January 2008 with its controversial Accountability and Justice Act. This purported to ease the policy, but many feared it would lead to further dismissals.[21] The Ba’ath Party is led by Saddam’s former deputy, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri.

ONE THING this country needs to make clear to the mullahs in Tehran. IF we have solid evidence that IRAN is bankrolling ISIS (and I believe we already have such evidence), we should incinerate the entire nation of IRAN. THAT is my version of controlling nuclear weapons! Use those weapons on radicals who’ve previously declared war on America and Israel BEFORE the radicals get their hands on such weapons because, rest assured, ISIS and their supporters WILL USE nuclear weapons as soon as they can get them!!
—————
Many will cry “unfair collateral damage” to all those innocent Iranians who’l be killed in a nuclear attack. NOT ME!! This will send a clear, unmistakable message to other nations: LET your country fall into the hands of ISIS and you’ll suffer the consequences!! We are at war with radical Muslim elements. Either WE will be eliminated or THEY will be eliminated. The sooner the big bombs start dropping in ISIS controlled areas, the better.
————–
Harry Truman is my favorite president of the last 75 years. He ended WW2 with atomic weapons. His decision cost hundreds of thousands of Japanese lives (including those who eventually died from the after effects of the atomic attack). But his decision undoubtedly SAVED huge numbers of ALLIED FIGHTERS who would have been slaughtered in the land assault on Japan.

Thanks GDP.. I figured we were way down on the list.. We also could use the defense to assist in shortening the field on occasion as well as less three and outs on OFF….
Agreed.
Generally if you look at the winning teams right now, most have had their successes on offense by a defense that got them the ball back quickly thus more TOp & possessions, as well as a defense/ST’s that got them favorable field positions, making it easier to score.
As much as our offense under a incompetent Lazor has let us down, our defense has been an even larger let down!!!
No complimentary football. One unit goes up the other goes down. It’s so frustrating. Our lack of forcing turnovers is one reason, those change the momentum of a game. Then out offense sputters at times in games and we fall behind. It’s like watching the same game over and over.
I want to see a spirited game tomorrow. If we lay another egg I expect to see Ross make major changes in the offseason.
