Game Day! Dolphins @ Jets

headerI hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.  I don’t have much to say about this game.  If we have any hopes of winning one in our division this year, today is the day.  I see all the arguments on here, it’s the play calling, it’s the offense, it’s the defense, it’s injuries, it’s the officials, the foot, Tannehill, Suh, coaching.  There’s no shortage of reasons and plenty of blame to go around.  We have good players.  We have some great players.  We have some that are young and need some time to develop.  We have some that have been around awhile and might not get any better. Not a lot different from any other team.   No reason why we can’t win this game.

I hate losing and I can’t drink during the game so they better win.

Lets Go Dolphins!

Dolphins WRs Jarvis Landry (knee) and Rishard Matthews (illness), both questionable, both expected to play vs Jets, per source.

On that injury report the other day It looks like everyone for them is good to go, of course except for Revis and anther DB… Jennings better get involved today and thats not just running around out there on every play but more like a Mathews type game who I here doesnt look good for this one either…
    GO PHINS!!!

With Revis out, today will be the day Lazor goes with the ground game and when its not working at all we will stick with it till the bitter end

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

HOWIE, I TOTALLY AGREE with you RE: Lazor. I’d rather have Campbell calling the plays than this idiot!!! In fact, Campbell’s UNWILLINGNESS to fire Lazor may prove to be the #1 reason why he WON’T be offered the HC job on a full time basis. That said, I wonder if ANY GOOD COACH would willingly step into this quicksand franchise that’s being run by the likes of Ross and Tannenbaum? BOTH Harbaugh and Fisher would NOT willingly take orders from Jeff Ireland. –They (rightly so) wanted their own man in the GM’s chair. SOOO-O-O, kiddies, it all gets back to the man who owns the franchise and his “vision” of WHO should run the team. STEVE ROSS is the #1 reason this franchise is floundering in mediocrity He definitely needs to GIVE UP on his failed belief that the Irelands and the Tannenbaums of the world are the ones who should have the last say!! –Conversely, if Ross changes his policy, he MAY be able to attract just the right man who, if given total control over personnel decisions, could turn this franchise around in one or two years as happened during the beginning of the Shula regime.

A win today would be nice against our hated rivals.

  9. ocalahowie's avatar ocalahowie says:

    OD
I called it a week or two ago and the Tanny lovers arent going to like it…
The #1 reason no tenured HC will come here now is because they dont want to take on his 90+million dollar contract.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I disagree. I don’t think they would like Ross’s ‘leadership’ council.’ Tanny has a skillset that would tantalize a guy. Look at what Gase, Fox and fiends have done with Cutler. Someone could easily think they could work magic with him.

      • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

HOWIE: I’ve gotta agree with NEW AGE on this one. PLUS, if ROSS were to agree to my model of success for the Dolphins, the new head coach would have TOTAL CONTROL over who stays, who gets drafted and who goes or gets traded away. The ROSS “SYSTEM” is the problem. And, in my humble opinion, our O-LINE problems and our LB/Secondary problems greatly out weigh our QB problems. Speaking of NEW AGE’s Gase, I believe that guy could be one of the potential candidates to become our next head coach. But he sure as hell WON’T TAKE THE JOB if he has to answer to a proven failure like Tannenbaum!! – – AGAIN, THE “SYSTEM” IS THE PROBLM!! – – And ONLY ROSS can change the system.

  10. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Hope we win today. It would be nice to beat an AFC East team this year. Trying to stay upbeat here so will talk draft. Who thinks Derrick Henry(RB from Bama) will be a top 20 pick? Those Bama RBs haven’t really shown a lot in the NFL but will someone be tantalized by his probable Heisman? Is he different from those other bruisers?

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

NEW; Given the current and future impact of Todd Gurley, I believe some team will take Henry in the Top 20 (but NOT the Top 5) of the upcoming draft. Personally, I’d rahter have the Miller/Ajayi team at running back than Henry, but I could be proven wrong on that. We have far bigger needs to fill than RB in the coming draft, especially in the first two rounds. NOT taking an O-Lineman until the 4th round has come back to bite us in the ass this season, as both Mike E. and me feared.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I agree OD. I think they are a good duo we’ve already put effort and money into. I hope Henry is taken early but we will probably have an early pick anyways so won’t help us much.

  11. ocalahowie's avatar ocalahowie says:

I dont hate Tanny at all he does do some nice things but the sky is not the limit with him, he is where he is at and that is all…
The rest of the team needs to improve like it looked on paper before the season and Tanny is plenty good enough to get his part taken care of.

  12. ocalahowie's avatar ocalahowie says:

    N/A
I do agree on Ross and his Goon squad, That ranks right up there and we are screwed.
Campbell might have a shot yet

  13. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Okay whatever, 24-20 MIA.

  14. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Miller and Ajayi could be a real nice combo but Lazor will have them split 15 carries so what’s the point? Until we get coaches in here committed to the running game their worth isn’t very high.

  15. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Miller is averaging 5 yards a carry this season with is exceptional
Ryan Tannehill is tied 4th worst is sacks in the nfl and a bunch if those are on Tannehill (ironically he is tied with bridge eater who has the same problem)

This team is not losing bc of the OL
It’s losing bc of the of play calling
I would probably say defense is 2nd
And poor qb okay 3rd before I said OL

If we drafted a OL in the 1st round we would not be any better this season
The personnel on this team is fine
The coaches out these players in bad positions

  16. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Speaking I’m proposing a new lazor sucks play calling game today

Count the number if times a series starts with a WR screen on 1st down
And then a Run from the shotgun on 2nd down

I wonder how many times the dolphins actually do it
It feels like a bunch of times

    * I think a pass of 2 or less yards to a WR should count as a WR screen even if it’s not technically a screen

  17. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

What’s the over under on the 1st down and 2nd down series above
    I’m saying 3.5
Also every time It happens – we punt

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Glad to see you finally get fully on the bad coordinator bandwagon with me. 😉
The coaching & play calling has put these talented players in less than stellar positions to suit there skills and it’s gravely hurt the team as a whole.

  18. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

OD, I kn ow and agree with some of the Ross concerns, but don’t be so fast to want for a Almighty HC Savior that runs everything to be hired.
I mean look at the Eagles with Chip Kelly. You can bet Lurie is kicking himself right about now.

  19. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I would love to know how many of Tanny’s 30 sacks occured on 3rd down
Anyone have that stat or know oh to find it

I really think the way we call the first 2 downs is killing the team
And I bet a majority of the sacks happen on 3rd down

  20. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Piggy,

I completely agree. That’s why I said last week that we seem to only run a few plays and why that Philly player said our offense was easy to read. Lazor has maybe 10 bread and butter plays no matter what look or preparation the other team’s defense has.

  21. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I like that we are using stills more deep lately
Now maybe work in the middle of the field with passing okays to Cameron and Landry

It seems like we worked the middle of the field better last season

GDPIF an owner has shown he’s really good at picking club presidents and GM’s then I DON’T NECESSARILY BELIEVE in the coach also being in control of the GM position. BUT IF an owner has shown he doesn’t have a clue regarding team presidents, GM’s and HC’s (as in Steve Ross) then I think it’s better to give that power to the head coach who, likely, knows more about GM’s than Ross does. Continuing the “ROSS SYSTEM” means continuing the failure. Is THAT what you want? –Regarding Lurie, I think his situation has little/no bearing on Ross’s failures.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Yes, I want failure so I can join the depths of Bat & others. 😉
The point I was making is that it’s a crapshoot finding just the right mixture of coaching, personnel dept, drafting, etc etc. Look around the league at the 19-20 teams .500 or under, many with tenured, well respected coaches & GM’s.
Miami isn’t the only team failing by no means.

  27. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Piggy,

Surprisingly few. I didn’t look at our two blowouts but in all the other games, 6 total 3rd down sacks. He has a lot of 1st down sacks. While looking, the first down sacks, and tons of penalties killed our offense over and over.

  29. bat's avatar bat says:

Very plausible theory from a fan on PFT re: Tannehill’s struggles

“The team itself is in a tough spot because they haven’t quite been bad enough to want to blow it all up but they’re not good enough to be contenders, either.

To have your quarterback develop you have to allow him to make mistakes and learn from them. If you have playoff aspirations, however, you’re not going to want your quarterback making mistakes, so you manage him carefully. It might buy your team a couple more wins but it doesn’t help your quarterback learn the things he needs to learn about himself and the pro game he’s playing.

In contrast you have the Jaguars, who have been a bad team but have pretty much allowed Bortles to sling it his first couple seasons. They knew he’d make mistakes but so what? They weren’t going anywhere anyway. Now because they have let him play as if there’s nothing to lose, Blake is progressing and setting that team up to be pretty good next year, whereas in Miami they’ve acted as if they were almost there already if only they could protect the team from QB mistakes. Tampa is doing a good job with Winston, too; better than Miami has done by Tannehill.”

It’s easy to say those things in a yr where RT is down, but the same things were said a couple of yrs ago with Luck when he was struggling compared to RT, so fuck ’em on this trend. With that said RT has sucked this yr, but I don’t think it’s an indication of what we’ll see in the future.
