Game Wrap Up: Ravens @Dolphins

The Ravens came to South Florida on Sunday in a battle of two teams that played the 2015 football season like poop.

The Dolphins would win!

Allright Miami!!!

Parkersky

The first score of the day would come on a Parker leaping catch.  Look at that air.  Parker started at caught 3 passes for 63 yards.

The Dolphins actually only had 86 yards passing.  So there wash;t much of an ariel attack with the exception of this game.

That’s why I am going to give you a second look at the catch.

Here is a pig’s interpretation of the catch

ParkerSkies

Most of the offense on the day was provided by Lamar Miller who rushed for 113 yards on 20 carries.

Yes 20 carries!  That isn’t a typo.

MillerHandof

The Dolphins planned to finally have some balance after firing Lazor…but they may have pushed a little too far in the other direction since the only offense on the day was on the ground.

Ryan Tannehill completed 9 of 19 passes for 86 yards.  This is the 4th week in a row in which Tannehill failed to throw complete 60%.  Given the nature of this offense – that’s a pretty awful stat.

VernonSack

But the defense had a strong game.  Two of our defensive ends stood out.  Olivier Vernon and Derrick Shelby.  Vernon had 2.5 sacks on the day.

Shelby was also hitting Schaub hard all day and he scored the Dolphins only other TD on tip and interception return.  It was a terrific play by Shelby.

JonesINT

And when we talk about defense – you can’t leave out Reshad Jones.  Jones had 10 tackles and an interception.  His interception set up the Parker touchdown.

If Jones doesn’t make the pro bowl this year, the pro bowl should be thrown in a dumpster…

With the win the Dolphins collect their 5th win of the year.  And that probably takes them out of the top 5 of the draft.  So say goodbye to a top 5 pick.

How about Misi on the coverage; If he dont defend that pass it goes for 35-40yds easily

  2. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Misi played well yesterday, the whole defense played really well. Turnovers, sacks, pressure and a fourth qtr shutout with a 2 point lead when our qb failed to lead the team to even a FG attempt in the second half.

Our rookie kicker hasn’t kicked a pressure kick all year, we don’t know what the hell we have with him. I’ve never seen a season where a team’s kicker has been so inconsequential, it’s ‘Frank’ly amazing.

  3. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The Cheats loss yesterday means that right now they are the #3 in the AFC
and would therefore have to play to road games (most likely) to play in the super bowl
    1. Bengals
    2. Broncos
    3. Cheats

so I’m rooting for the bengals and broncos to win out

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

and if we can manage to beat the cheats in the final game of the season we can also help the cause to hurt their playoff positioning

  4. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It was a strange game but at least we won. That had to be the best game Shepperd has played as a Dolphin.

  5. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

the defense played solid. The offense, specially tanny, played like shit but at least we committed to running the ball.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Don’t ignore the fact that our OL struggled basically every time in pass pro. RT was hit constantly.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

well he was way off on his outside passes when he had time. I’ve never seen him throw so inaccurate. Maybe it was the wind. But a lot of his passes sailed on him.

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, yeah no doubt RT was off for whatever reason. They did say it was windy, so that along with the shaky pass pro may have had something to do with it, but something doesn’t seem right with RT. Not sure what it is. We’ve seen him play better than this so something must be up. You don’t just forget how to throw this young.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

maybe it had to do with him getting more control of the offense. He was nervous.

I really think we need to draft a QB in the later rounds next year.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        See below
its 4 games in a row now below 60% which is pretty bad for this offense
        It wasn’t just yesterday

I think even if we wanted Tanny as our guy in 2016 we should draft a QB to develop as a backup. before the season started I thought that

A new coach might want his own guy. so to me the question is how high do we draft a qb? Is it our franchise guy or a developmental backup

As critical as I have been about Tanny I would rather we just focus on defense in the draft with the early picks. Maybe a new coaching staff will put Tanny in better position to succeed. But then again…maybe not. I am willing to take that risk

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He has been under 60% over the last 4 games
He has been particularly bad in that span

earlier this season he set the franchise record for consecutive completions

I really don’t think its an OL issue
the OL was worse the last 2 years or just as bad (and same goes with early this season)
but he had great short and intermediate passing accuracy
and really its been his strongest quality most of his career

out of the blue he sucks with short and intermediate accuracy
every pass is behind the receiver

people keep talking about separation – but I think that is way off base. The throws allow the dbs to catch the wrs who are underneath. You don’t need lightning speed to get open on those routes.

Its a shame b/c his long ball has really come on this season

I doubt he forgot how to throw
but maybe all the changes to the coaching staff have taken their toll

We may have kept Lazor when we fired Philbin
but everyone wants to do things there own way
He has had a lot of different coaches in his ear

  7. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

The worse part of yesterday was the stinking Jets beating the giants in OT. Very disappointed in the way the giants played. SMH. they had that game won.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

No they are going to be angry on MNF and kill us
      😦
I think the Beckham Jr vs Landry matchup should be fun to watch

Landry has a chance to get noticed byt he national media if he can duel with his former teammate

  8. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    BoulderPhinfan says:

    December 7, 2015 at 10:28 am (Edit)

or maybe its because he got his money already.
    ***************
    I don’t think so
in that case, he would not get off the ground after the hits….lol

He just keeps coming back for more punishment
I bet you he is really beat up right now and can’t wait to rest his body this offseason

but if he was a guy who got paid and then loafed around, I don’t think he would be willing to accept so much punishment in a losing season

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

well something is off with him right now. He’s definitely regressed from last year. The main difference from last year was that he was playing for a contract. His oline was worse last year so that’s not it.

  9. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    piggy,
I agree with going defense early in the draft next year. TAnny is our QB next year no matter who the coach is. The idiot that gave him the 100 million contract early made sure of that.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

we probably won’t be spending much FA $ this offseason
I think our biggest spending will be to keep some of our guys and I don’t think we will spend big to do that

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I don’t see miller coming back. I’m hoping whomever the coach is will go with more of a ground and pound offense. I just don’t think miller is that kind of a back.

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It really is time to stop spending in FA. Just build through the draft, and keep doing it. We need to hit on more picks in the draft, and just say no to big FA players. You don’t win with that formula.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think using free agency to supplement talent is okay

but I want to stop relying on it too and draft better

I do think good teams generally keep their draftees
and we have not done that, we have made changes and gone in different directions
I think that needs to stop as well
we need to draft guys and bring them along

a guy like Rishard Matthews is probably only successful in the NFL b/c he was with the same team for so long. That stability makes a difference

  11. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Boulder
    RBs don’t get huge contracts
Murray and McCoy (who signed big contracts over the last couple of years) were about 8M a year
and they are top notch RBs

I don’t thin k it will cost a lost to keep Miller
but I agree that the decision to keep him will depend on the coach

right now I like the talent at our skill positions with Ajayi, Miller, Landry, Stills, Parker, Cameron and Simms. Personally I would not shake that up too much and just look to add a cheap vet WR for depth purposes

generally I would not tinker too much with the offense, even though its been really bad, with the exception of the OL which needs some work

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Cameron has been disappointing. Not sure if it’s Tannehill or him, but he’s hardly been used this year.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        He has not been disappointing
        his use has been disappointing

they don’t even throw to him!
When they do he makes pretty good catches most of the time

Honestly we are barely in the red zone to really utilize him

        Simms too

I see no reason to change the TEs. I think waffling between players is a big problem around this team

  12. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy and Boulder, not sure what you guys are watching but the OL is still bad in pass pro. You may not always notice it but RT is on the ground after almost every pass. I’m not blaming them for all of his poor play, but the guards are still getting beat on a regular basis. His sack rate is basically the same as last year.

Also, did anyone notice the defender push RT to the ground well after the pass was off early in the game and no call? The defender pulled his hands back like I didn’t do anything and I was like yeah you did, where’s the flag?

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      the point was
it was bad last year and it was not a huge factor to the short and intermediate passing game

I think its a little better than last season but the difference is slight

the issues Tanny has this season are new issues
the issue with the OL is an old issue

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I did. I told my nephew that would be a penalty if it was Brady, Rodgers, or any of the top QB’s.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I agree with piggy. YEs his oline is bad but it’s been bad for a few years. Tanny is just not as accurate as he was last year. Yesterday was one of the most inaccurate games I’ve seen tanny play and it wasn’t all because of his oline.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Turner was garbage yesterday, and I saw Pouncey beat bad on a couple of plays too. I didn’t see Thomas playing too badly.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

That being said, Tanny was garbage too, except that throw to Parker was beautiful, and the one to basically seal the game.

  13. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I think trading cameron for clay was a mistake. Tanny had a better connection with clay than cameron.

  14. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Again, I said not blaming the OL for RT’s poor play but our pass pro is still bad and just because it’s and old issue doesn’t make it okay. It’s still an area that keeps this team from becoming a better team.

Also drafting a mid or late rd QB isn’t go to change the QB situation in any kind of big way.

  15. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Did anybody else want to reach through the tv and strangle the moron announcers who were doggin our second to last play of the game where we rolled Tanny out and lost some yardage on 3rd down. They were talking about us missing the opportunity for a long FG. How stupid can you be. There was no way we were kicking a 48 or 49 yard FG with like 30 seconds left and risk a missed kick, smh. The play call was fine and Tanny going down and losing yardage was fine, smmfh.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Kong – It may sound horrible, but I don’t give a shit enough about our team to get that upset the rest of this year. I’m totally emotionally detached at this point

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m pretty emotionally detached as well, but the Bacardi was still pretty strongly into the game, lol.

  16. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
we didn’t match the offer to clay because we’d already paid cameron. I think if hadn’t signed cameron we would have kept clay.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

No, they signed Cameron knowing they wouldn’t match Clay. They knew what Clay was looking for and they weren’t going there. So they were proactive and signed Cameron.

  17. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t know why Tannehill can’t get on the same page with Cameron. It’s puzzling

  18. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

ouch from mando. Henne reference LOL

“Second thing is Tannehill is starting to frustrate. He can be a good quarterback. I am certain of it. He has a great arm, and if you disagree, please read the first paragraph of this column again because that pass traveled 38 yards as if shot from a laser cannon. He is smart. He works hard. He wants to be good.

But lately, something has been lacking.

(Some people close to Tannehill might argue the right kind of coaching.)

Tannehill would never say that. And indeed, Campbell is trying hard to protect Tannehill and not have him get hit as often. Campbell is not asking Tannehill to carry the team. Campbell is emphasizing the running game.

So Campbell is basically managing Tannehill like Tony Sparano managed Chad Henne after the former coach realized Henne wasn’t very good.”

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Enough with the Henne comparisons. They’re completely different players. RT is much better than Henne ever was. Players do have off years and slumps.

  19. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Bat called Tanny Hennehill yesterday. lol

I don’t believe that’s accurate, but I was very disappointed with Tanny yesterday

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Kong, that catch by Parker is exactly what we need from him, that long range kind of WR we haven’t had in a long time. Parker has flashed some skill the last 2 games that are very encouraging.

  21. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Wow, 1 sack allowed, and the OL is still the problem. Lol
    ****
I wonder how Schaub(an older, slower version of Tannehill) managed to have a MUCH better game than Tannehill given the wind, the rain and being sacked 3 times. Funny how he managed to make throws anyway.
    ***
It’s the QB, people! He has no pocket awareness and stands like a statue in the pocket no matter what. Defenders know exactly where to find him. He’s his own worst enemy.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

How many hits does he take? We’ve all said RT is playing sub par but the OL still sucks in pass pro. There is no denying it. The announcers even mentioned that RT is picking himself off the ground after every pass. It is possible to have both the OL and QB playing poorly.

You still don’t see this OL allow pressure within 2 seconds then blame pocket presence. You can’t bail the pocket all the time. All defenses know where the QB is going to be when they drop back, especially out of shotgun. LOL

  22. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

MIKe E, I said the same thing on the late hit on RT. If it was Brady there would no doubt be a call.

  23. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

tanny has looked a lot like henne the last 4 games

  24. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Don’t read too much into the ineffectiveness of the Fins offense vs the the Ravens. They always lure the Fins into an ugly game and this time the Fins stuck to running more which made the difference in the end (clock was rolling).
I for once was happy with the result even if it was ugly. The Fins team needs to get conditioned at getting physical with the run game and shave off the ever important clock. The pass game isn’t always going to be that miserable (it just happened to be that day) so I say keep at it Zac the way you did. Matthews should be coming back soon which will add more speed to the WR unit.
Landry had a pass thrown a bit behind him downfield that was left incomplete; either way he should have had a better attempt as it was in the hip area (he just didn’t turn his head around in time to track it well downfield on a Ravens blitz attempt).

  25. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

The Ravens Brandon Williams was eating up the Fins interior yesterday; especially in the 2nd half…Pouncey couldn’t hold him.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

You didn’t see that, it was a mirage. LOL

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

He was dominating Pouncey for much of the game. There was a play in the second half where he took on the Pouncey block with one arm, reached out with his other arm, and pretty much single-handedly tackled our RB for a no-gain

  26. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Tim,
It was awesome to see Parker make an impact. That throw and catch for a TD was thing of beauty. Hopefully Parker continues to improve and we have that big bodied, skill receiver this team has been missing forever.

    • Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

He also caught that critical 3rd down square in route in the 4Q on the Fins final offensive drive, no?

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeppers, I mentioned that one earlier. That was a critical catch. It’s nice to see him getting involved. Hopefully by next season he becomes that dominant force to complement Landry as our possession guy.

  27. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

I was pleased with the rookies.
Now if only the coaches can get Virgil more snaps 🙂
Sheppard made tackles yesterday but he’s still overrated and has crappy instincts. He makes tackles after the RB has made enough of a gain on the play to push the chains with the next play.

  28. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Boulder

I think the plan was to have Cameron and Clay at once
We just didn’t match the Clay contract and that is why he left
it seems like a swap now – but it wasn’t the plan to swap them

with Clay gone Tanny relied on Matthews a lot
I think Tanny probably benefits from time with a receiver
but I don’t think not having Clay has been a huge detriment to our offense

It would be the same short passes underneath on 1st down

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Once we knew what Clay was looking for and BUF was willing to pay him, it was over. I think we were hoping Clay wouldn’t get such a big offer and bring him back at whatever is was we offered him. It’s in the past anyway.

  29. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    BoulderPhinfan says:

the receivers weren’t the problem yesterday. the balls thrown 10 feet above their head was.
    —-
RT was off but people dropped passes as well.
Landry had one a little behind him but still within his wingspan (he wasnt looking and couldn’t adjust in time as he turned late to track the ball).\
Cameron dropped another easy ass pass.

  30. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think we are going to have to talk about what a huge disappointment Pouncey has been

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

He’s always struggled in runblocking against the big NTs, so it isn’t too surprising he wasn’t that good yesterday, but it seems to me he’s been very average this year.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s not a power player, he’s an athletic center for the scheme we run. I don’t know why we keep wondering about that. Pouncey is a big reason Miler breaks off chunks of yards. He gets to the 2nd level and opens daylight opportunities.

  31. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Ugly is the only way this team can win because it’s the only way they know how to play. Way, way too inconsistent and undisciplined. The LBers stepped up yesterday, but by next game they’ll be missing tackles like they usually do. This whole team plays like that. One decent game…three bad ones…except for maybe Jones and Suh.
    ***
And Henne and Tannehill are similar in that they both led this team to mediocre records. So, who cares about the stats when the result is the same? And, Tannehill has had a much better supporting cast around him than Henne ever did.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Henne had a better OL and commitment to the running game but let’s pretend it wasn’t that way. They are nothing alike but you’re not a fan of RT so no surprise here. LOL

  32. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

Jay Ajayi only had 4 carries (Miller crossed 20 for the first time since Dec 2013 and it is the 2nd most carries in a game in his career). Zac has to figure out how to get a better mix going.

  33. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Randy,
I get the mediocre talk but this crap about RT having much better support around him is BS.
Henne had Brandon Marshall, Ronnie Brown /Ricky Williams tandem, + Fasano and better interior OL.

  34. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I’m disappointed in tanny because I’ve been harping how he would do well in an offense that is run heavy. Then we ran that offense yesterday and he stunk in it. I’m out of ideas.

  35. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
are you actually blaming the oline yesterday for tanny’s play? He was way way off and it had nothing to do with his oline. His oline has been bad for 3 years. Tanny was just bad yesterday.

  36. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
You’re exaggerating…something you claim I do all the time! Lol. Schaub was under a helluva lot more pressure all day long, but he made throws….about 30 of them.
    ***
Watch other teams….Tannehill isn’t pressured anymore than most other QBs. The difference? Tannehill rarely slides WITHIN the pocket to avoid pressure. How about he learns to take a step in ANY direction to avoid pressure before we crucify the OL? His pocket presence completely sucks, but you seem to be totally oblivious to that reality. So, I guess we’re both missing something.
    ****
Is our OL great? No. But, they were not the problem yesterday. Tannehill was the problem. What’s wrong with expecting him to actually help his OL by avoiding some pressure once in awhile?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah okay. So when I’m watching the game and I say geez guys can you block for more than a second I’m not seeing it. LOL

The OL sucks in pass pro and are pretty good in the run game when we establish it and stick with it. It has nothing to do with fuckin Matt Schaub or RT’s performance. RT isn’t playing well and our OL still can’t pass block. Both are possible. I’m not defending RT, you just want to turn it into that.

By the way Al just called you out on your Henne comparison and supporting cast comment. How quickly you forget. You exaggerated to make your point there too. LOL

  37. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
And you’re not a fan of our OL. It’s obvious. Hater! Bad fan! Out of touch out of towner!

  38. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Mike E, I agree something is off. Tanny has not played up to his potential or to what he’s shown in the past, or even this season when he set an NFL record for consecutive completions.
The announcers said he threw his helmet off and got into Stills face after one series yesterday.

The offense seems confused and the receivers not in sync. Plus remember just because Lazor is gone doesn’t mean his system went completely with him. We can’t expect an offense in week 13 to be able to do a major overhaul.
As we saw, just minor adjustments created some issues & poor execution.

But now is the time to experiment when you’re basically out of contention.

Hope they look crisper on MNF.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

we’re stuck with tanny next year so lets hope we get a coach that can get more out of him and the offense specially against AFC east. Tanny’s record against AFC east is terrible.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t consider us stuck with Tanny, I think he’s totally capable of putting together a good season.

    Put me down for…
    27-26 MIAMI
Giants have a nice offense but WORST DEFENSE IN THE NFL!
    GO DOLPHINS!

  40. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay early lunch today. Continue with the RT bashing and ignoring many other flaws. LOL

  41. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Boulder,
We aren’t stuck with Tanny. As I’ve said before, everyone is replaceable in the end. As to WHEN that should occur differs between me and others. Teams like Seattle & Denver settled the QB position AFTER they had invested in all other areas.

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I just don’t see us drafting a QB in 1st next year because of tanny’s contract. That contract is limiting our options.

  42. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Randy,
BTW, looks like Billy Turner is getting more and more COMFY with ZBS as a RG.
    Hopefully that trend continues :).
Ju’Wuan James should be getting back to the field soon (vs Giants or the next game).

I don’t consider us stuck with Tanny, I think he’s totally capable of putting together a good season.

I thought so at one point but after this year, I’m not sure he’s the long term QB for us.

  44. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Boulder,
The situation has to present itself…the team has too many deficiencies to worry about the QB position. Especially since this QB class is only 2 deep (to me it’s Jared Goff and Paxton Lynch; both are going top 5 probably if they decide to declare because BOTH are JUNIORS).

  45. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Boulder,
I do believe in taking chances at some point in RD 5-7; teams should do that every year considering how much of a crap shoot NFL QB scouting can be.

Phins are 5-0 when Miller runs 13x or more.
Phins are 0-7 when Miller runs less that 13 times.

We still got the win with him running over 13x yesterday in a windy, wet, sloppy field game against a well coached team.

Lets see where the offensive adjustments takes us in the coming weeks as they keep committing to running about 20+ times a game. It will begin to soften defenses pass coverages and allow Tanny & the Phins to win some chess matches.

ouch now the sanchez comparison LOL. Tanny is on thin ice. From Omar

“There’s nothing special about Ryan Tannehill.

Too many people use the words potential and patience to make excuses for Tannehill, who has started 60 games in his NFL career.

Those two words have bought Tannehill four seasons of unquestioned starter status for the Miami Dolphins. But the putrid offense the Dolphins have displayed all season, the one that again sputtered in Sunday’s 15-13 nail-biting win over the Baltimore Ravens, should make Tannehill’s reign as the unchallenged starting quarterback come to an end.

At his best Tannehill is Alex Smith, the game-managing quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.

But more often he’s Mark Sanchez, minus the winning the former New York Jets starter did early in his career.”

    James Walker, ESPN Staff Writer
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — When interim head coach Dan Campbell took over the Miami Dolphins in October, he said he wanted to turn them into a physical, gritty football team that found ways to win.

Campbell’s vision finally came to fruition in Sunday’s 15-13 win over the Baltimore Ravens that will easily go down as Miami’s ugliest victory of the season.

The Dolphins plowed straight ahead and committed to the running game. Starting tailback Lamar Miller received a career-high 20 carries to go with his 113 rushing yards and 5.7 yards per carry average. Baltimore entered with the NFL’s No. 8 run defense, but Miami matched — and at times surpassed — its physicality for four quarters.

I think the big question is if Tannehill can improve when the OL gets better. I think it should be pretty decent next year after Turner gets a year under his belt and if we don’t keep switching players out all the time. Can Tannehill adjust after all these years of bad pass protection? Because he hasn’t adjusted well after getting the running game…or before it.

We have the tools for a solid offense if we don’t dump the receivers again. There is no reason this offense can’t make massive strides but Tannehill has to get better. Those awful 4-6 yard passes have to stop.

lol ya think. i hear they have a half way decent RB. but what would i know

  90. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

MLB, WOLB, 1 CB position & FS are the weak links on defense.

FS position blows, nothing else to say about it. Michael Thomas when healthy (seems like an iffy proposition all the time) is serviceable but the position has been ignored for years with only project type guys.

DE could be better as could 1 inside DL in the rotation but they have been suitable. Perhaps with Dion Jordan returning next year (I know LOL but it’s still an option i guess for now); and if Coples can show some serviceable stuff at 4-3 DE then perhaps maybe re-signing on the cheap for competition at DE.

I think the DL gets ripped on often but IMO the LB play have made it easier for QB to make decisions on where to go with the ball by botching coverage assignments which limits the DL pressure.

The LB are subpar at anticipating the RB plays and they almost never attack the backfield consistently. Though Jenkins’s volume of work is very solid he often gets caught guessing and allows a big play via his side of the field. Sheppard has been playing better lately but he doesn’t try to missle his way through blocks and often is late when he does make the tackle. The LB sit back waiting for people to come to them which allows the moving OL to get out in front and create the lanes. They don’t have the strength either to control guys hitting them which would disrupt the RB lanes (Misi is the only one it seems who could).

Now to, CB, Jamar Taylor been subpar, over the top, when his back is to the ball but McCain looks promising as a coverage boundary corner (he slipped up literally vs the Ravens as did Grimes on that soggy field) and him over Taylor is a big improvement in the middle to deep pass defense.
