The Porcine Oddyssey #101:

An Artistic Interpretation on the Dolphins 2015 Season.

Ahh…what to do on Sundays when the Dolphins suck…I know what I do.  I can go to the museum.  I know just the spot.  They are having a Dolphins Exhibit about the 2015 season.  Let’s check it out.

TannyPollack

This one is called Tanny Pollack.  It leaves a lot to the imagination.  If you stare it at for  long time you will have your own interpretation of Tanny too.

Is he the future or not?

Look at his offensive line collapse around him?  Did he hold the ball too long?

Why can’t his receivers get open? Was that pass late?  Did he miss the receiver?

What a dumb play call?  Did Tanny make a bad decision?

Different people see a lot of different things in Tanny Pollack.

For the purpose of this post – I will be silent on my opinion, but there dis no question about it – opinions vary a lot on Tannehill.

BradyVenus

This one is called Dolphins vs Patriots.

Amid a flurry of penalty flags the Dolphins pass rush tries to get to Tom Brady but appears to only end up dancing around him.

Tom Brady stands lady like as he delivers another TD pass…this one makes me cry a little.

Note that Vernon is helping an injured Cameron wake off the field.  Exactly what we needed when we played the Patriots – Our best pass rusher blows an achilles.

Fuck it all!

poopScuplture

Moving on to sculpture here we have “Monday Morning Dolfan”

This sculpture represents what Dolfans feel like on Monday morning after the game.

Who knew they ate so much corn?

DolphinsBar

Here is another depiction of the Dolphin fan experience:  “Boulevard of Broken Dolfans”

Just your average Dolphin Bar.

On the TV screen Tanny is sacked.  Thankfully the lady with the shotgun’s has not stained the television with her blood, so you can enjoy the misery of the 2015 Dolfans while she blows her head off.

The other patrons deal with suicide in their own way while watching the Dolphins.

How did the guy on the bar off himself?  Pills?  Poison?  Heart Attack?

The artists wants us to think – How do I want to kill myself when the Dolphins play?

The possibilities are limitless!

3rdand6

This is “The Scream on 3rd and 6”

This painting is classic expressionism.  This is what is going on on the mind of the offensive coordinator on 3rd and 6.

On first down he called a WR scene and picked up two yards.  On 2nd down he ran a running play out of the shotgun and picked up two yards.

Now what?  PANIC!!!  ARhhhhhhh!  Its 3rd and 6 again.

Oh fuck it just throw a 4 yard pass and hope the receiver breaks a tackle for the first down…GrandCanyon

It took me a while to figure this one out.  Its called “Grimes Covers”

If you look closely you can see Brent Grimes covering a wide receiver on a deep pass.

Still can’t see it?

Look closer…

See it?

Me neither…

its nowhere to be found…just like the real Brent Grimes covering a wide receiver on deep passes in 2015.

Dolphingofu

This one is a just called “Dolphins”

It’s gritty realism.  This is what the Miami Dolphins say to you every season.

For all you draft position hopefuls. Looks like we’ll have to really lay down to let Charlie Whitehurst beat us.
    ____________________________________

During Monday’s press conference, Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano announced that the team will be without quarterback Andrew Luck for this weekend’s game against the Miami Dolphins. The Colts have said they will play Luck, who has been dealing with a lacerated kidney and torn abdominal muscle, whenever he is healthy and that he is expected to play this season. With Pagano ruling him out for this week’s game, Luck will have just one more game in which he can return this year. He has already missed five games, with the Dolphins game being the sixth contest he has missed due to the most recent injuries.

Luck also missed two games early in the year due to a shoulder injury.,

The Colts could also be without backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck this week. Pagano described Hasselbeck as “beat up from the feet up” during his press conference. If Hasselbeck is unavailable, Charlie Whitehurst would likely start. The Colts do no have another quarterback on their roster or practice squad.

  2. D's avatar D says:

You guys who are all about Ramsey from FSU i am guessing you guys see him as a safety in the NFL right? I dont think he has good enough speed to cut it as a CB in the NFL. Great instincts, but he gets beat deep a lot by receivers with top end speeds.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

The kid from Iowa King is an intriguing CB that I’d look at.

      • D's avatar D says:

There are a handful of pretty talented CB’s out there this year but some im concerned loked good due to playing inferior talent, the kid from Iowa is one of them but ill admit i havent wantched enough of his game film to be certain of it. Even if he plays bad opponents, its easy to pick out if he plays fundamental football and has good instincts. Ill try to dig some up and then get a better evaluation of him.

Yeah there were a lot more actors back in the day rumored to be gay. I came across an article awhile ago. Marlon Brando and Merv Griffin etc.
    ————————————-
Dont know that i woulda expected Brando, but Merv Griffin and Winters i could easily see those.

  4. D's avatar D says:

GDP, ya think with how horrid we have played it really would take much of anything to beat us. Chargers have played so pitiful that we just gave up the first TD they have gotten in 3 weeks, and the first rushing TD in like half a season.

  5. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Maybe Suh will take over a game & earn his huge payday as top paid defensive player in the NFL & the Phins will win their 3rd home game of the season….and the crowd goes wild.

Deplorable performance at San Diego. Same problems. The offensive line was no good (it was shockingly bad after Branden Albert’s injury, and center Mike Pouncey’s injury didn’t help either), Ryan Tannehill can’t throw deep, the coaching staff forgot Lamar Miller existed and the defense was clueless. That about cover it?

Yep, pretty much sums up the season.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Actually Tannehill can now throw deep, but has somehow forgot now how to throw the shorter to intermediate stuff. He tries to get his receivers killed.
In fact, he was once heard in the huddle as saying to Matthews, I’m gonna kill you.

  7. rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

Also, I would like to thank the Lions for winning last night. We have now moved up to #7 in the draft.

A few thoughts with the draft.

    1. If Hargreaves is there when we pick, take him.
    2. If we want a LT, we may have to take one very very early. It’s true there’s very good depth at OT, but most will either play RT or move inside. There are really only a few guys who are true LT.
    3. I would be drafting Ramsey that high to play FS, not CB. I think it would be a mistake for any team to draft him just to play CB.
    4. If Hargreaves is gone in the 1st, my next favorite CB would be Desmond King. …late 1st/early 2nd. Also, I like Jonathan Bullard-DE early and Kentrell Brother if there in the early 3rd.

“Tanny avoids any blame for his flaws
But people still are going to blame some one
And they do – just not Tanny

    ——
What blog are you reading Piggy? It’s always amazing how perceptions can be diametrically opposed given the exact same stimulus.

Here’s my invitation to pigeonhole me as a “Tanny Defender”…because after all, there’s no way to have a discussion around here without easy fit labels:

He’s missed some opportunities this year, just like the rest of this team, but he has fewer turnovers than most full time NFL starters (inspite of countless blindside muggings), he rarely throws pick sixes or has redzone interceptions, and he’s the most sacked QB in the whole f’in NFL since he’s come in as rookie. Read that last line again. I won’t bold it, but it merits bold print.

He hasn’t played great. But there are so many others on this team who have played flat out shitty, The OL this week was the worst I’ve EVER seen it, and that’s saying something since this OL has for several years been the worst in the league…(and that’s arguable, but I simply can not imagine a credible argument to the contrary).

Anyway, I’m with Mike. Tannehill has all kinds of room to improve..and I don’t straight up know if he’s a franchise QB or not, but I’m pretty certain I’ve never had a fair chance to evaluate him given all the above mitigating factors.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      You Tanny defender!…lol

stay tuned for the blame the receivers dialogue that has been going on lately
the new line is our receivers aren’t very good and don’t get open
maybe you missed it – but its there
when things go wrong people need some one to blame I guess
and if you don’t; want to blame Tanny for the passing game and the coaches have all been fired – well people still want blood

I probably picked up the Tanny criticism a little of late
when I head people blaming our receivers – which is ridiculous IMO

If Tanny gets a pass, and everyone else get hyper scrutinized – its not fair
and don’t tell me you missed blaming Wallace last season for the deep ball misses

I’m fine with criticism like he has room to improve
or wanting to hold off judgment

I don’t need people to crucify the guy to avoid conformation on the subject
I don’t personally want to do that either

but that is not what I see
people are a lot more willing to be patient with Tanny than anyone else on this team

and I disagree with having no chance to evaluate him
There are plenty of chances to evaluate what he does being given a chance to perform

when the OL folds around him
You can say to yourself (as I do) that’s not Tanny’s fault
but that is not every play and people know better than that

sure I will agree that we are one of the worst OL in the NFL
and I think last week was the worst performance of the season

but that is not some kind of magic wand that is waived and should cause people to ignore the opportunities Tanny has had where he has flat out failed

That is just who Tanny is right now
He is not responsible for 5-9
      the team is
but he is responsible for his performance which has been below average most of the season and he deserves criticism accordingly
not a discussion on mitigation factors

When Tanny is criticized, there is a debate about everything else wrong on the team

      • D's avatar D says:

To me this is a level headed argument and is my sentiments exactly. I like Tanny, i really hope he switches shit back to the upwards slope he was heading on last year but i am not going to ignore his failures this year and point out where he needs to improve, just to holdon to that hope or least of all just because i know he isn’t going anywhere.

Totally unrelated (to my above post) and not a defense of this horrible football team:

That was likely the Chargers last game in that stadium at a home they’ve occupied my entire life. They have some incredible talent and were really motivated to win. Congrats to them, they did that in spades. I thought the election to pull Weddle, Floyd, Gates, and Rivers off the field for the crowd to show their love was classy, and I thought it was a very moving moment.

    *****************
PFF actually has him ranked really high
They have Aaron Donald with the best ranking ever
and 2015 Suh not too far behind
take PFF rankings with a grain of salt
but according the them you are wrong

His salary should not matter in evaluating him

Ryan Tannehill is paid like a top 10 QB
    but that’s okay I guess…
His OL, WRs and coaches probably caused that too

A few thoughts with the draft.

    1. If Hargreaves is there when we pick, take him.
    2. If we want a LT, we may have to take one very very early. It’s true there’s very good depth at OT, but most will either play RT or move inside. There are really only a few guys who are true LT.

    —————————————————————–
You and i agree on almost every aspect of this. I do think the LT market as far as a start right away guy is still deeper than i have seen in past years, but i think you are right, a start right away LT is always going to be a rare commodity. Having said that, deep into the first early second i still think you find that guy this year. Its a stout year. You could get a 2nd year starter into the third this year and thats pretty rare.

I would not draft Ramsey as a CB, i think he shows all the markers of a stud at safety, and he is the hybrid guy, kinda mix of SS and FS skills that fits our defense perfectly, well as our defense is right now. He is mirror image of Jones, but i think he hits the ground running and wont take as long as Jones did to get there.

Bullard is going to be a beast, his motor is exceptionally high, his size/speed/skill combination is among some of the best in the nation. Brothers lacks a little NFL like size for MLB but his instincts are incredible. Third round would be a solid round to get him. Another guy i think is slipping in under the radar is Antonio Morrison from UF, he has a good size/instincts combination, and was the QB for one of the best defenses in the nation.

Also just to promote some of my other Gators, UF has a second LB who may also come out this year Jarrad Davis, who also fits the mold of good ILB, and kind of under the radar prospect, Bryan Cox Jr (anyone remember his Daddy?) is a pretty good later round DE prospect, Marcus Maye is a helluva FS/SS prospect, was a first team safety selection for the all american team this year. Keanu Neal is a stinger of a SS prospect, lays down some sick hits and tackles everything that he touches, also a under the radar guy, Brian Poole a late round consideration, great coverage guy, a little small at 5’11, but he has like 10PD’s this year so he knows how to play the ball. Lots of good defensive talent potentially entering the draft from the swamp this year and if i cant have them on my college team anymore sure would like to see some of them on my pro team and helping us out.

  23. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

C’mon man, Suh got the biggest contract for a DT since you know who. There’s a reason for that, it’s not a position teams throw big money at for 1 player. The Dolphins rolled the dice on Tanny with his contract. They knew they wanted to keep him, and they felt like if they waited, they would have to pay more. I think honestly they made a mistake with BOTH contracts. Also Suh NEVER, NEVER did what Aaron Donald is doing now.

Back to the WR’s since I’m one of the guys who said that, you don’t think we overrated our WR corps this year? Stills is eh, Parker was M.I.A. most of the year, and when he was here he was far from Julio Jones, or any of the Samurais. He finally showed a lil something last week. I thought Jennings was going to be better, he looked old, and Rishard was an average to good WR when he was playing. Tell me where I’m wrong here.

    • D's avatar D says:

If you look at our receivers as primary secondary and tertiary targets. Our number 1 is as good as any teams. Our no 2 probably would be Matthews and he would be cosidered a solid one by most standards. He is on pace to finish (if he plays out the remaining games with about 800 yards receiving, 5 TD’s in an anemic at best offense. Thats not horrible. He makes some really nice catches in traffic and has shown some pretty good receiving skills in terms of route running, etc. Our number three receiver could be rotation of guys, sometimes it looked like stills was that person, Jennings seemed like who they intended to be that guy early, Parker seems to be that guy late. Third target guy as a whole usually dosent look much better than Stills.

As a comparison, the Colts have their 1, 2 and 3 guys projected at 1100, 800, and 500 yards. Ours are projected at 1100, 800, and 500….

KC Chiefs are worse off with a WR 1 with 1100, WR 2 with 400, WR3 with 200.

      GB has 800, 800, 450

      NYG 1500, 700, 400

So no i dont think even numbers support the idea that our group is overrated. Seems like decent numbers for a 1st time together unit with bad offensive scheming, a QB who has been inaccurate and OL thats not giving a lot of time for things to develop.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Any team? PIT (A. Brown), ATL (J. Jones), HOU (Deandre Hopkins), NYG (Odell Beckham). Jarvis Landry has probably caught 60-70% of his passes at or within 5 yards from the LOS. He doesn’t get downfield like ANY of the WR’s I mentioned. I don’t know what you’re basing your opinion on, maybe potential?

  24. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

These are some of the first incidents they have had and im not even sure the issue Denzel have might not be a heath related thing. He probably though will be someone to avoid. I liked him as well for us at OLB or possibly safety, but given this report i wouldn’t draft him. Robert, im still interested in, and no i wouldnt hang a prediction of becoming a Dion FF on anyone, i wouldnt have even hung it on Dion had i not been in the front row for watching it happen.

  32. D's avatar D says:

    • D's avatar D says:

Still wanna make it about the receivers?…. Our receivers are pretty solid. They might not all be 1k yard receivers, but TY Hilton, is on pace same as Jarvis Landry, Landry is 18th highest yardage receiver in the NFL this year, so i guess its a stretch to say the guy who does everything, and many times is practically our entire offense isnt one of the best receivers in the NFL.

RT has had an off year. So have a lot of other players and that’s why we’re 5-9. Why get so bent that some don’t feel that Tanny is the issue to the degree that you and some others think he is?

I still see some people saying the OL has been much better of late and I just don’t see it in pass pro. They still suck and our depth is nowhere near good enough.

  38. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

Why are you stuck on TY Hilton? I didn’t bring him up, you did. It’s not ONLY about the receivers, although I stand by my assertion that we overrated them. The O-line is the biggest problem. Landry is what we expected, he’s been very good. No one else has been except for Matthews who did well for a while, but Cameron Jordan has been a huge disappointment, Dion Sims too, and Stills hasn’t been what we expected either, nor has Jennings.

  39. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

  40. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

D, let’s put stats aside for a sec. I love Landry and what the scope of his game is. But he’s not the type of WR that you look at as the #1. He may get stats like that here since we lack a true prototypical #1, and is one reason why we drafted a big rangy target like Parker to fill the #1 role at some point.

Landry was first and foremost thought to be a top slot receiver. He is there. He can also be moved around, he’s talented.
But he’s not the type like Fitz, Megatron, Bryant, etc, or like his counter part Beckham….IMO, he’s a different type of receiver that needs to be used differently than those other #1 types.

  41. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    D,

hold on there. you cant leave for that reason. that is bs. if you leave for that reason then you are agreeing they are right. if you have your opinion, you dont change your mind just cause someone says, ‘you are wrong and here is why’. so dont expect them too, if you believe in your opinion then you should fight harder for it or you come across as not to much of a believer in your own words.

and i am not saying any of that to back or support any of the opinions here. i am done with the fins. my opinion, just pick your poison who you want to blame, dont see any position on this team as defensible. maybe a player here or there (landry). cant be blamed but pretty much it is pick your poison

He may get stats like that here since we lack a true prototypical #1, and is one reason why we drafted a big rangy target like Parker to fill the #1 role at some point.

so landry’s stats dont count cause there isnt a prototypical #1 but tannys stats do count even they get padded a lot during garbage time.

come on either stats count for every player or they dont. if you pick and choose which player they count for you basically are saying stats are useless

The funny thing is, I think I’ve defended Tannehill more vigorously lately, because I see too many people just jumping all over him, and I don’t think it’s justified. I watch the games, I see when he doesn’t play well, but I don’t lash out at him, because there are so many factors as to why his play has dropped, but still, some just kill the QB. That’s what set me off to defend Tanny, because I think it’s ridiculous.

Stats are good too, but just part of an overall puzzle when evaluating a player. Stats come and go as the rest of the ‘team’ goes up or down. Unless you’re throwing dumb pick 6’s 2-3 times a game each and every game.

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, what you’re doing in defending Tannehill is what I’ve done over the years with various players and I would be labeled into a group as if I’m blind and just bias. I’m not, he can play better and has. I think the entire team is broken and he’s part of it. So how is that sunshine and lollipops? LOL

My biggest fear happened this year on top of some of the players we were relying on to lead us not getting the job done. Our young depth wasn’t ready at a lot of positions and we have a lot of them including 3-4 year players who haven’t had success yet and performed sub par too often all season. This season has been an entire franchise malfunction and they need to figure it out and correct it.

That said, I don’t think that means we can’t be a playoff team for 3-4 years. It could happen next year with ridding ourselves of dead weight, making good personnel additions, acquire a quality coaching staff and improved overall play. All of that can happen. But this season is toast.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I hear ya, and you’re probably right about being labeled blind. Us fans are a pain in the ass, it’s because we care, and it just sucks to get disappointed every year. TBH, you know I said the O-line needed to be addressed this off season, and all we really did was draft Jamil Douglas in the 4th. I knew we were in trouble, and then it really got bad when James got hurt. Our depth wasn’t there because even our starters at the G position were shaky, along with Albert not being healthy from the start.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The biggest factor was when Albert got rolling and the OL started to play better James went down and we’re not deep enough to overcome that with a group of developing guards. Then Pouncey and Albert got banged up. We can’t play without those guys good to go.

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Landry reminds me of a young Hines Ward. Runs good routes, catches the ball, plays physical, makes big plays you don’t expect, plays every down 100%, blocks, makes tackles on turnovers etc. You need football players like them. But Parker is the kind of WR who will be the guy teams have to focus on. He’s bigger, faster and has a longer catch radius than Landry. He’s a mismatch player, Landry is a talented WR who overachieves by working harder than everyone else. The two of them are an excellent tandem moving forward.

If anything being comfortable at such places just confirms a lack of any doubts.

  57. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Landry is one of my favorite players. He’s exactly the type of player that you want on your team. He’s not a prototypical #1 though, he’s more of a slot WR, that can play on the outside too. Like GDP said, Parker will groomed to be that guy, and Landry and maybe Stills or someone else will complement those 2.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I like Landry, Parker and Stills moving forward and adding another big WR. Then find a reliable TE or get the ones we have involved more. I really feel we need a HC who believes in doing the basics well and then add to it. We seemed to try to do too much with a revolving roster and a lot of young players too quickly. Slow down, get good at fundamentals, play smart and build on that. We lost games by being out of place and not executing assignments way too often, too many penalties etc. That’s a combination of coaching and talent. It has to get better.

i know you are joking but here is the deal with drops or those tipped passes for ints that make those meaningless.

years ago i heard this one guy that played qb, had a name like marino or some loser qb like that. and said in an interview about tipped passes for int being counted for int’s. his answer was he didnt care and it was fair, cause wr’s make just as many great catches on bad passes that the qb gets credit for that either should be a drop or a pic but the wr bailed out the qb.

there isnt a stat for horrible passes that the wr made a great catch on so there shouldnt be one for drops either
