I agere but is kelly that much worst as GM than hickey or tannenbaum?

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I guess my point was that I would not eliminate him based on some of the stuff reported about him and players on the team. If qb’s that “show potential” are deserving of extra chances, a coach who got two 10-6 seasons out of a pretty tough division with all the reported strife deserves a little consideration.

By the way not stirring up controversy on Tannehill…just poking fun at myself

    • D's avatar D says:

Paxton Lynch isnt all that and i think this bowl game really showed it. He probably dropped a full round just from that last game. He will need to really show something to bounce himself back into the 1st. I know i saw someone else on here say Cook was a 2nd rounder but i think by time the draft rolls back around he will be a 1st round guy, possibly even a top 5 pick.

  25. D's avatar D says:

None of the QB from this next draft are truly worth of a top 10 pick. I think Cook is the best of the bunch, with Goff and Lynch following him. None are so good they stand out as a sure thing, but i do hope some of those teams picking before us think so or decide to reach for one of them instead of trading back.

  26. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    LOL @ D – I have a real job, besides that. lol

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’d also prefer to re-sign Millertime at a fair price. Why create another need when he’s our guy, who we well know is fresh as can be after being underused his entire career here. He’ll be a 25 YO RB with 23 YO legs.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep, there is no guarantee we find a back as good as him so we’d be losing talent when the idea is to become more talented.

      • D's avatar D says:

I think he has special talent you cant find in many other players, so im for keeping him as well. I only suggested Booker as a fallback option if for some reason we cant convince him to stay. He may not trust the organization any longer. The right coach could go a LONG way towards getting him to re-sign with us.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

    ———————————————
I think that his picks have been pretty solid in the draft. most years his first 1-3 rounders are solid picks and are starters contributing to the team. Lower picks haven’t been really successful. Still i dont think he, when trying to do both jobs has done either one of them spectacularly. The idea of the coaching being able to bring in HIS players is good but i think it kinda gets him more involved than he needs to be. I think its a distraction a HC doesnt need so that he can focus his best on oing THAT job well. You do however need a GM/Coach who see completely eye to eye, but im not sure i like the idea of wrapping them in the same person. Would take a pretty special person to pull it off and do both jobs well.

They’d put out a limited menu, jack all the food prices on it by 50% and the order from the manager was “don’t worry about the quality of your service tonight……just move them out as quick as you can.”

I’ve read a lot about Good being a very early pick
    and Lynch too
and what I see in them I think merits it
but its still pretty early in the process for me
    Reply
    —————————————————–
I think Cook and Goff go in the first, one or the other will be top 5 (though neither deserve it) and the other will be shortly after. I think you see some trade backs from teams who want a QB, Browns may stay put and draft one. Two teams in the top 5 have needs at QB. SF and the Browns. IMO, browns really need a QB, but i would if i were them trade back or pick at another position they had a strong need at. They can still pick up a QB prospect by their pick in the 2nd and still get one better than Manziel. SF i would stay put and draft one. This is a full rebuilding year anyways so they need to secure a potential starter, and then get some pieces to put around him, so i think if things stay the same order as now, there will be one of those guys Goff/Cook (my opinion is Cook is most NFL ready) selected top 5, possibly both if Browns stay put and take a QB.

    • D's avatar D says:

Lynch is a lot of hype. He’s the RG3 of this years draft. He has some flws and if Auburn’s defense, specifically its secondary bothers you, you arent that great. I do think he has skills but i dont think he is ready to step into an offense and go. He needs some cook time.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He looked pretty good against Ole Miss
People seem to be ripping him apart for that auburn game
and I hear a lot about lack of competition
but really Memphis played 2 SEC teams (Ole Miss and Auburn) and Houston this year
And Temple too who are pretty good for a nonpower conference school

That is a harder schedule than some teams in power conferences

I’m hearing a lot of developmental stuff with him
So you are not alone in your assessment

but I think some of that is just small school stigma

He looks comfortable in the pocket to me
I heard one analysis say (before the Auburn game) that he is more prepared for the NFL than Blake Bortles was as a prospect

I personally would not mind drafting a guy like Lynch and sitting him in 2016 and playing Ryan Tannehill in 2016 – then making a decision on who is the future qb in 2017 and maybe being able to net a first round pick in 2017 for what the team determines the lesser of the 2 qbs is.

Its a bit of a loaded way to deal with the QB position, but it has a chance of working out in 2017 if we have 2 first round picks in 2017

Albeit I think our defense needs work NOW with our first round pick

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Very true, that’s why we either stay home, or WALK across the street to our neighbors house. My son wanted have about fifty 10 friends over w/o us being home, and we said absolutely not. He was mad, but then we asked him if any of his friends can host, and he said all his friends parents said no. It's tough to be 20, and not really have anywhere to go to celebrate. When we were 20, we could get into clubs and drink, it was legal.

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, normally we go to my wife’s cousin’s house and she throws great parties $$$$$. But she and her family are going skiing in Canada which they do usually every other 2 years. So my wife and I didn’t go out of our way to look for somewhere to go or to put something together. Just not that into it this year.

  34. D's avatar D says:

Piggy, if Lynch fell to us in the second i would be tempted. I dont think he’s complete poo, i actually think he has a high potential for developing into a really good QB he has the skills to be one, i just dont think he is there yet. I think Cook’s skills are further along than Lynch, same with Goff. Lynch may have more long range potential to be a star more so than Cook or Goff though, he just inst as “start right away”. Your idea about drafting and stashing him as a what if is somewhat where my mind is though i was thinking about someone who might be good, but slip a little and we get a 4th round selection that has potential to start in a year or two, or winds up showing enough to be trade bait by then, someone who also will provide a decent backup solution regardless. HackenBerg, Prescott, Lynch, Cook, Goff, Doughty, Wentz, kinda ll fit that bill though i dont expect but 2-3 of them to make it to the 4th.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

  38. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Big help having Juwann James come back now in the last week after missing weeks 9-16

    (sigh) what a shitty season

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Having him and Albert on the field for most of a season and upgrading at least one guard position with a new addition could change everything on this OL. That’s why I don’t think we need this major overhaul. We don’t need all blue chip prospects and top tier FAs, we just need upgrades at some positions.

We do need to land a special player with our 1st pick and it would be great if he hit on two more from the draft right out of the gate. Then hope some of our young players make that jump and become better players.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

That is sort of my feeling too
but when you factor in that alebert, James and Pouncey all had injuries this year – what’s to stop one or more of them from struggling with injuries next year

I don’t ever argue that our OL is good
b/c its look like shit lately
but there are a lot of injuries on our OL

I favor a defensive player with that 1st round pick (despite my QB talk)

I was just tweeting with DBolt and Pro Lou about it.
Prof Lou seems to really like Myles Jack and Jaylon Smith (both LBs)
and those guys do both look like the real deal to me
but I am also a fan of Ramsey and Heargraves
Heargraves is a little undersized though

Its not even Jan so he rankings are going to seriously shake up before the draft

but if we pick top 8
we are going to be able to have one of those 4 guys I mentioned

and that is just LBs and DBs
if you throw DEs into the mix, there are more options

Piggy, I like Jaylon Smith a lot but as an OLB. He doesn’t look like a MLB/ILB to me. But I do think he could be a great OLB in a 4-3 or 3-4. He’s super quick, can blow up plays in the backfield and has the speed to cover ground. Myles Jack is considered a tremendous coverage LB (can also play RB) but he’ll be coming off a season ending knee injury. He’s also an OLB. Then there is the best MLB/ILB in the draft in Reggie Ragland. Not sure if he’s worthy of where we’ll be picking though.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m thinking maybe MLB is a day 2 or day 3 pick
      I’m not sure about Ragland
he looks reliable but not really special

I think both Jack and Smith are OLBs as well

But I do think we need an OLB opposite Jenkins

Jack coming off injury concerns me
but if it weren’t for that, I think he might be might favorite prospect
He is good in coverage and actually looks good in basically everything

In a video posted to Donald Trump’s Instagram account, the presidential hopeful suggests that Obama is doing nothing to combat the recent rise in terrorist attacks. “We are in a serious war,” the video begins, and it goes on to display snippets from reports covering ISIS, the Paris attacks and the San Bernardino mass shooting.

Then the screen fades to black displays the message, “Our president is busy with another war,” which leads into a clip of the President saying, “OK everybody, I gotta get to ‘Star Wars.’”

That Obama clip is from just before a December 18th screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens that Obama attended. The President and First Lady hosted the screening at the White House for families of American soldiers who were killed in combat.

Id rather have Beckwith, Deon Jones (45 on LSU, go back and watch the bowl game to see why), Antonio Morrison, Kentrell Brothers over Ragland and Smith. I do like Ragland and he meeds the run stopper, with good instincts to a tee, but i think he’s weak in coverage, the others arent.

  70. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    tim,
we obviously need backup tackles. We can’t rely on both albert and james on the field together. how many games have they played together the last 2 years? I’m sure its not that many.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

You can probably count it on one hand

If you end up spending a high pick on an OT – I think you do it with the intent to replace (probably albert) not as a backup

Its a difficult position to be in
      They are good players
      who have not been healthy

  71. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

lmao so down 21-3 you get the ball with 3 plus mins till half. you dont get the ball to start the second half, so dumbo fisher now runs the ball 3 straight plays only to punt the ball back with 2 mins in the half. i actually think lazor could call a better game then that idiot

“Ja’Wuan James has been out since Week 8” but he “fully participated in practice this week and Dan Campbell said he has the best chance to play out of Rishard Matthews, Mike Pouncey and Earl Mitchell.”

Rest them all is what I say. Could claim that is to check out the other talent, but then I’d be fibbing.
    —————————————
I honestly think its the safest thing we could do. Id keep the starting OL, maybe minus the OG’s, out there, but id play Logan Thomas, Id leave the receivers out there except id inactivate Jennings for Hazel and get him out there.

More Ajayai than Miller. Miller would be safer going into FA without injury than with a few extra yards. Cameron stays out there.

On defense id play Philips and Coleman a lot, Hewitt, Vigil and drop James-Michael Johnson, bring up Hull, play him. Drop Tyler Patmon, bring Ced up, play him. Drop Schamiel schlimazel hasenpfeffer incorporated and bring up Anthony Steen and play him at OG, either spot i think people will see why i was high on him in previous drafts. Drop McClendon and bring up Vinson Painter as well, straight into the starting lineup. At very least rotate these guys in heavily.

Start Lippett and Bobby McCain at CB’s, Fede and Coples at DE.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

You are basically going where I am……play it like we have the #1 seed in the playoffs, even if you have to hide it a bit more than that.

My guess is once the Pats get the lead it will be like the 2nd half of the 2nd preseason game.

I think people wise up and either Rubio or Ted Cruz wind up the candidate, and i think either of them could beat Hillary. I prefer Fiorina she just seems like a strong candidate to me, but she wont make it through primaries. She might wind up a VP candidate and buy herself some time and experience. She could beat Hillary as well.

    • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

A Cruz and Fiorina ticket would be my dream team. Like both and — cold or not — Hispanics should go Obama for their first potential pres and and she will combat the Hillary female as first on the other side.

But if Trump goes third-party it just don’t matter. Can’t believe he holds a guarantee in the next election in his hands.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Try — We might have different politics, but if you feel that way about Cruz how you feel about Trump? I figure if he was Pres that him and Putin might get in a flame war like we see on this board…….but this time the world ends. “You are fired”…..might be the last thing I read.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Try — now you just playing with me. 🙂

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Trump doesn’t concern me- the system will wash him out. Cruz gives me the strong sense he would put his “religious beliefs” ahead of good policy decisions. I’m conservative- but keep your “God” away from me.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Try — not like I’m a holy roller in any sense of the word…….OK at least not “holy.” And of course the system will wash Trump out — he will not be President, least not in the next election. I’ll take Cruz over Hillary in a second though. Part of it is politics, but mainly a lot of it some stories I heard back in DC (convincing first-second hand ones)….don’t want her finger on the button either.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Neither of us really know- but she concerns me less than he does.

  75. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boulder, I was basically saying if we could keep Albert and James on the field we’re getting closer to being better. I agree we need depth at tackle. But we need at least one better guard and then let the youngins compete for one job. Hopefully they improve next year.

Like the flow of this draft, though i wouldn’t take Ramsey, unless Hargreaves is gone and definately as a S, not a CB. Id almost be willing to take Fuller over Ramsey, but im wary of a guy who has spent more than half the season out with injury.

Nassib, im not a fan of, but he is a solid selection if Bullard and Lawson were gone, maybe even some others, ill admit it could be anti PSU bias, disgusting child molester school.

Brothers is smallish but his is as fucking instinctual as they come, flows perfectly to the ball carrier and is a solid tackler, he also isnt bad in coverage. Def like that pick.

Kirkland is a HUGE guy, big ole road grater, he and his buddy Sebstian Treolta, if we go away from WCO i think those guys are definitely targets.

Havent studied up on Harlan Miller, havent made it to the smaller school prospects. Similar on Doughty though i have watched a couple films on him and i have heard a few people promoting him.
