Last game of the season. It turned out a lot different than what we all had hoped for a few short months ago. Even though it won’t matter, I hope they manage to somehow pull off a miracle and win this game. It would make this long off season ahead a little easier.
For those who are observant, you’ll notice the record is wrong, I set this up at the same time as last weeks game. It’s hard to whip up much enthusiasm so I thought I’d go ahead and get it out of the way. We probably lost last week anyway.

In Denver, Shanahan was doomed his final 2 seasons with shitty defenses.
He did have cutler at the end. And he couldn’t win with cutler either. And how do you know he’ll figure the defense out in Miami when he couldn’t in denver or washington? I think defense is our #1 issue other than oline. Shanny will get the running game going and fix the oline but I’m not sure about the defense.
And players don’t like playing for him. He lost the team at the end in denver.

A coach should never bend his philosophy for any player.
Many hated Jimmy Johnson during his time in Miami because he reigned in Marino’s gun slinging ways to push forward a more balanced attack (run game). It never came about the way JJ wanted (JJ failed to get a decent well rounded RB).
Whatever coach is managing the Fins with RT at QB should push the run game more if RT is deemed ‘off his game’. Not to mention, maximize the protections if the OL can’t hold their 1 on 1 assignments.
The Pats do many shotgun formations as Miami but when they are inside the 10, they almost always bring in 3 TE and run more plays under center than in shotgun.
The Bills run shotgun often too but they flank Taylor with 2 backs and not 1.

But, none of us know why Lazor called the plays he did. Teams plan an offense all week…these kinds of things don’t just happen out of nowhere on Sunday, I assume Lazor built the offensive game plan during the week with lots of input…players and coaches. I think Lazor struggled calling games, but it wasn’t completely his fault. Lots and lots of other coaches and players helped this team suck. Lol
Other than the offense, defense and special teams, we were pretty good this year. 😉

On Shanahan and Cutler, he had him as a rookie and in his 2nd year that’s it.
In terms of offensive output, the Broncos put up 320pts in Cutler’s first year (ranking 21st in pts and 11th in offensive yardage produced). 2nd year, the Broncos put up 370 points and ranked 2nd in offensive yardage. However, the Broncos went from giving up 305 points in Plummer’s final year to giving up 409 in Cutler’s first year; 448 in Cutler’s 2nd year.
In Washington DC during Shanahan’s his final two season (2012 & 2013), their offense in 2012 was 4th in pts, 5th in yards produced; 2013 their offense ranked 23rd in points produced but 9th in yardage produced.
Shanahan inherited a Skins offense that came off ranking 26th in points; 22 in yards produced.
To put things into perspective, Miami has not even cracked the top 10 in yardage produced by their offense since Shula’s final year in 1995.
However, the same issues in Denver surfaced in DC, with the defense blowing goats the final 2 years (gave up 388 in 2012; 478 in 2013). Under Gruden, the Skins D continues to have issues having given up 438 in 2014; 388 in 2015.
I think the GM stuff can work to Shanahan’s favor since Tannenbaum has been at least solid in finding front 7 players (dicey though on secondary picks).

Im with ya on that. He has a very hands off approach to the defensive side of the ball and seems to take more of an “we’ll outscore them” apporach to how best to pair his defense with his offenses, which usually are pretty solid. Mike Smith IMO works hard to make sure the team as a whole feed off one another, one scheme helping the other, or at least when i have researched it thats what im seeing between those two. Smith would have to rework the offense to get what he wants, Shanahan wont, but we wont really know if the defense will loo better until he settles on his DC, and again, he isnt going to put a lot of thought or effort in that.
Also as you commented on, he is kinda a like him or hate him guy, it could go either way with the players and we could end up with a mutiny same as we did with Philbin.
Definitely don’t want a defense blowing goats. Maybe massage a panda from time to time, but just say no to blowing goats. LOL

My issue with the Fins coaching searches past and present is this…
Anyone who is to be HC had better have had NFL experience as a signal caller in game and have developed a pattern that can be analyzed. How can you hire a guy in which there is no established pattern of risk/reward decisions in game? crazy.
Philbin was an OC by title in GB and never called plays (McCarthy calls the O in game as HC)
Sparano was never an OC at the NFL level prior to becoming HC in Miami.
As for Cam Cameron? How in the F can you ignore what Cam did vs NE in the playoffs prior to the season in which he was hired to be Miami’s HC. He choked the game away in the 2nd H vs NE going away from Tomlinson who was dominant in the 1st half.
Either way, for Cam it didn’t work out. He was a productive coordinator so I can understand the hire. but as for the other ass hats, the Fins don’t get the benefit of the doubt.
Like how Philbin & Lazor go away from Miller after he is running wild in the 1st half….WTF moments in NFL history! smh

Im not really for or against him personally, i dont think he can fully answer all of our teams problems, but with a really good DC i would be less apprehensive. I dont think his rings are that impressive, thats a long time ago and the NFL is a much different place now.
While Dan Snyder is at it, he should send Shanahan a thank you card for taking Kirk Cousins in the same draft or else that franchise would be in a much worse position today LOL

I agree, i have been writing some stuff regarding some of the coaching candidates, which i probably wont submit, same as normal for me, and that was one of my points, that Tannehill to me was very similar to Cousins, who was someone that obviously was a guy Shanahan saw as a potential starter, i think Shanahan and Tanny would be a great pair, im just not sold on Shanahan as the complete package nor the best candidate.

Al also, i think this generation of players dont really respect things that happened before a lot of them were born. They dont hold those things in as high reverence as you would think or as maybe you and i would. They will however look at the mess that happened in DC, they will look at the player/coach issue, and some may side with him and some may side with RG3. I think right now the most enticing candidate might be Hue Jackson. I think he seems to be right place right time for the next HC spot. I think he is likely hits most the markers for me, being a fresh mind, developing talent well, decent amount of NFL connections, etc. I lean a little towards Mike Smith over Shanahan but both on similar footing with me. I dont think Austin is much better of an option than Campbell. Combination of Schwartz and with Shanahan or Smith sounds really good. Im not as anti Patriots as some here, i hate the Bills worse, so Josh McDaniels or Patricia dont sound awful, though i question the amount of control given to either of them as far as the playbook for each game or the game plan. Marrone im not a big fan of, just because he walked out on his team. Im sure he had his reasons but i really dont like that kinda thing.
You know what really pisses me off about this whole ‘coach’ search thing and the Fins saying they will search ‘everywhere’ crap? They didn’t apply the same logic to the GM search.
They didn’t want to give Bat everything he asked for Christmas.
Position isnt same as other teams where the GM is the end all be all of making the player decisions. Easier if you have a Personnel Czar type position to just pick who ya want to work with instead of wasting time on a hiring process that is just for show.

The Bengals have good OL, TE, WR and solid RBs around the QB.
Jackson took over from Jay Gruden at the OC position.
In 2013 under Gruden, the Bengals O ranked 6th in pts, and 10th in yards.
In 2014 under Jackson, the Bengals O ranked 15th in pts and 15th in yards.
This season, Bengals O ranked 6th in points but stayed at 15th in yards.
The Bengals O between 2011-2012 (under Gruden) ranked 18th in pts; 20th in yards (in 2011) and then 12th in pts but 22nd in yards (in 2012).
Prior to Oakland, Hue Jackson was an OC for the Skins in 2003 for 1 season during Spurriors final year (he walked into a bad situation); also was the Falcons offensive coordinator in 2007 for HC bobby petrino’s 1 year stint there (another bad situation to get into).

Its true, im not discrediting it, but question who can Campbell give as anwer to those questions. Limited experience in coaching, not a lot of OC/DC’s in his pocket so to speak. I think this is where guys like Shanahan and Smith have certain advantages, and even people like Hue Jackson, have an advantage even with their breif time as a HC, they still have a lot more connections than a former TE position coach on his first team after retiring as a player.
You don’t know this to be true. Logic says, yeah probably, but Campbell may have more connections than you or I could possibly know.
I don’t mind saying I’m an optimist. I don’t think our players are all that bad. I do however think they need better coaches, or a better system, whatever you want to call it. If they can get that right, we can only be better. There’s not much room to be worse…
I dont think they are ALL all that bad, some really havent shown me anything as far as growth at their positions. Others i think are pretty solid players. We just have some minor tweaking needed.

In his only season as an NFL head coach, he led the Raiders to an 8-8 record, and the only top-10 offense the franchise has had since its Super Bowl season in 2012. I think the coach most likely to retain Campbell as a coord is Payton, as i think he is the one most likely to have that connection with him and know what kinda guy he would make as a coord.
Updating an earlier item, ESPN’s Dianna Marie Russini reports Mike Shanahan’s interview with the 49ers is “on hold.”
The sides are apparently having phone chats, however. Shanahan bombed with the Redskins and will be 64 in August. If he’s going to return to coaching, it should probably be with a roster further along than San Francisco’s.

No candidate has more experience than Shanahan, who has been a head coach for more than two decades with three different franchises. While he has spent two seasons away from football — and he’s 63 — Shanahan was close to earning the 49ers job in 2015, and has already drawn some interest from more than one team in 2016.
While the end of his tenure with Washington was far from great, one contributing factor for Shanahan’s firing was his wish to put in Kirk Cousins as starter, and that belief was validated plenty in 2015.

Todd Haley
Haley originally drew hype as a top offensive mind in the NFL when he helped lead the Cardinals to a Super Bowl appearance at the end of the 2008 season. It was strong enough to earn him a shot as head coach of the Chiefs, and while the team improved to 10-6 in 2010 to go to the playoffs and Matt Cassel earned a trip to the Pro Bowl, Haley’s time with the team ended after a disappointing 7-9 campaign in 2011.
Since then, Haley has led the prolific Steelers offense which finished No. 2 in the NFL in 2014 and No. 3 in 2015, despite missing Ben Roethlisberger for four games.

could be interesting in his second time around. hopefully he’s learned a few things since his last run. I heard a lot of complaints from players while he was there the way he treated them and he didn’t have respect because he didn’t play the game. Actually has some Belichick parallel to him in that he grew up watching film with his dad and getting up under Parcells, having failed in one stop before.

I agree he’s not ready. But I think he can work as an assistant HC to someone like coughlin for a couple of years and take over. Dallas did a similar thing.

i dont know …… well i guess since i dont know means yeah i dont think it would work. he just didnt show anything as the head coach other then the ability to keep things status quo and not let all hell break lose. i dont know if he is even ready to be an assistant HC. i do feel even if given that chance it shouldnt be here. just too messy with demoting and employee and keeping them around.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports ex-USC and Washington coach Steve Sarkisian is “putting out feelers” to NFL teams.
Hired away from the Huskies in 2014, “Sark” was fired by USC in 2015 as his drinking spiraled out of control. He has since sued the university for wrongful termination. Presumably, he has taken steps to get his life in order if he’s seeking NFL work. Schefter reports he’d be open to being a QBs coach or coordinator. The former is far more likely, and even that is a long shot, at least for 2016. Sark was the Raiders’ QBs coach in 2004, which is his only NFL experience.

The son of legendary Dolphins head coach Don Shula was just 37 when he became the head coach at Alabama, making him the second-youngest coach in the entire FBS. While the team struggled with a 4-9 record in his first season, the team improved to 10-2 two seasons later, including a win in the Cotton Bowl. But the team declined to 6-6 in 2006, and Shula was fired. Three years later, 21 of Alabama’s victories, including the Cotton Bowl win were vacated due to football players receiving free textbooks.
Since then, Shula has been tasked with the development of Cam Newton and that reached its peak in 2015 with an MVP-level season from the former No. 1 draft pick. While Shula is considered a top coaching candidate, he has reportedly told teams that he won’t interview while the Panthers are still playing, which could severely hurt his chances at getting a head coaching gig in 2016.

All I’ve ever said is he’s an average QB. My comments get exaggerated. Lol
My contention is, it’s hard to be an above average Qb when you’re stuck on a well below average team with huge coaching issues.

So you think the rest of the team is “well below average”?
Yes, have you seen the stats of the Defense? was 32nd in rush yards allowed most of the season. We had what 1 sack the first 5 games. Secondary got burned badly by the bigger WR’s.
The RB’s got hardly used, the WR’s had lots of drops, the OL was very poor in pass pro.
The Coordinators were horrible @ play calling & in game adjustments, the HC (Philbin) was terrible @ clock mgmt, and the team had a plethora of stupid penalties usually at the wrong times too. A QB that could never get in a rhythm due to a lot of this.
So you tell me.
PS. Don’t let the stellar 5-10 record & 1-5 in the division sway you that this was a good team now.

Most of these receivers from the 2014 draft are killing it
But Landry is still holding his own and probably more impressive than a few of these guys
I would say the only one that is head and shoulders better than Landry is Beckham
and Beckham is basically all universe good
I am not even including Kelvin Benjamin who was out all season
Martavious Bryant who is more of a role player on Pitt
or the other Jags receiver – Marquis Lee
Landry is way ahead of those guys
and a few guys drafted before or about the same time as Landry
aren’t really producing much: Paul Richardson, DeVante Adams, Cody Lattimer, or Donte Moncrief
and I wanted to draft Moncrief at the time as did a few others
Landry & Parker looks to be Hickey’s crowning achievement after the WR corp was gutted (Wallace, Hartline, Gibson). Looks like he hit on James & Philips too.
Hope we don’t grow to regret what Hickey brought here.
Hickey did a good job on first and 2nd round picks
and if you nab starters there you are in good shape
