Game Day – Patriots @ Dolphins

Capture

Last game of the season.  It turned out a lot different than what we all had hoped for a few short months ago.  Even though it won’t matter, I hope they manage to somehow pull off a miracle and win this game.  It would make this long off season ahead a little easier.

For those who are observant, you’ll notice the record is wrong, I set this up at the same time as last weeks game.  It’s hard to whip up much enthusiasm so I thought I’d go ahead and get it out of the way.  We probably lost last week anyway.

Let’s Go Dolphins.

I can’t wait for you guys to hype the next guy we hire only to rip him a new A-hole a year later. Lol

  4. Randy says:

    Al,
Now, now….the QB has absolutely NO a connection to winning games. Lol

  5. D says:

Also most of them may be on their first gig as HC but they all are several years settled into it. If we go non experienced, the we also have to be patient with the development. The ones preaching experience are mostly the same ones saying they want to see results the first year.

Oh and SB, yeah I’m going to senior bowl this year. Even paid for tickets this year so I could get 50 yard line like 4 rows up

why bother. even if you go mike e is going to call you out on your assessments of the players. he is like that

  7. D says:

I know his shotgun got us in a bad offensive shituations many games

    Hey now FFR . . . . Pot stirrer!

It was only a matter of time until Randy started to turn the discussion at the QB. LOL

    Boulder,
I know you may be iffy on Shanahan but how many coaches can win with QB such as Brian Griese, Jake Plummer, & Rex Grossman?
In Denver, Shanahan was doomed his final 2 seasons with shitty defenses.

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

He did have cutler at the end. And he couldn’t win with cutler either. And how do you know he’ll figure the defense out in Miami when he couldn’t in denver or washington? I think defense is our #1 issue other than oline. Shanny will get the running game going and fix the oline but I’m not sure about the defense.

And players don’t like playing for him. He lost the team at the end in denver.

BTW didn’t the bears go to superbowl with grossman?

  11. Randy says:

Yep, and hence the reason it’s usually best to ignore fan speak. Lol

  12. Mike E. says:

We won’t find a good coach if they have to be saddled with Tannehill

  17. Al in MIA says:

    Randy,
A coach should never bend his philosophy for any player.
Many hated Jimmy Johnson during his time in Miami because he reigned in Marino’s gun slinging ways to push forward a more balanced attack (run game). It never came about the way JJ wanted (JJ failed to get a decent well rounded RB).
Whatever coach is managing the Fins with RT at QB should push the run game more if RT is deemed ‘off his game’. Not to mention, maximize the protections if the OL can’t hold their 1 on 1 assignments.
The Pats do many shotgun formations as Miami but when they are inside the 10, they almost always bring in 3 TE and run more plays under center than in shotgun.
The Bills run shotgun often too but they flank Taylor with 2 backs and not 1.

  18. Randy says:

It’s just amazing how some things never change. Lol

It pains me to see what Jordan Reed (a guy you wanted badly) has become.
Just imagine that kind of TE in the Fins O 😦

  22. BoulderPhinfan says:

    Al,
Did you see against the pats we had sims, cameron and stoneburner in at the same time on many of our plays. We still couldn’t run the ball but it was nice to see 3 TE sets.

  23. BoulderPhinfan says:

    Al from above,

Shanny did have cutler at the end, and he couldn’t win with cutler either. And how do you know he’ll figure the defense out in Miami when he couldn’t in denver or washington? I think defense is our #1 issue other than oline. Shanny will get the running game going and fix the oline but I’m not sure about the defense.

BTW didn’t the bears go to superbowl with grossman?

  24. getterdone says:

Al, Jordan Reed is the primary weapon for Cousins, w/o Reed healthy they couldn’t win games.

  25. Randy says:

    Al,
But, none of us know why Lazor called the plays he did. Teams plan an offense all week…these kinds of things don’t just happen out of nowhere on Sunday, I assume Lazor built the offensive game plan during the week with lots of input…players and coaches. I think Lazor struggled calling games, but it wasn’t completely his fault. Lots and lots of other coaches and players helped this team suck. Lol

  26. herdfan says:

Other than the offense, defense and special teams, we were pretty good this year. 😉

  27. Tim Knight says:

Herd likes to coach all the units. LOL

  28. Randy says:

Oh and a guy with a hairy butt chained in your basement that answers to Hulk.
That’s how FFR thinks you should think. 😉

  29. sb7mvp says:

Lazor ‘s playcalling wasn’t any different than Sherman’s second year here. He was running the philbin vision with a few tweaks.

  30. BoulderPhinfan says:

    gdp,
neither did campbell. It’s difficult switch schemes mid season. BTW I think the lazor hire was terrible.

Philbin was an idiot and didn’t want anyone smarter than him to run the offense or defense. That’s why he hired lazor and coyle both first time coordinators instead of getting someone like whisenhunt and schwartz.

  31. Tim Knight says:

Is he seeing the same thing Henne saw? LOL

  32. Al in MIA says:

    Boulder,

On Shanahan and Cutler, he had him as a rookie and in his 2nd year that’s it.

In terms of offensive output, the Broncos put up 320pts in Cutler’s first year (ranking 21st in pts and 11th in offensive yardage produced). 2nd year, the Broncos put up 370 points and ranked 2nd in offensive yardage. However, the Broncos went from giving up 305 points in Plummer’s final year to giving up 409 in Cutler’s first year; 448 in Cutler’s 2nd year.

In Washington DC during Shanahan’s his final two season (2012 & 2013), their offense in 2012 was 4th in pts, 5th in yards produced; 2013 their offense ranked 23rd in points produced but 9th in yardage produced.

Shanahan inherited a Skins offense that came off ranking 26th in points; 22 in yards produced.

To put things into perspective, Miami has not even cracked the top 10 in yardage produced by their offense since Shula’s final year in 1995.

However, the same issues in Denver surfaced in DC, with the defense blowing goats the final 2 years (gave up 388 in 2012; 478 in 2013). Under Gruden, the Skins D continues to have issues having given up 438 in 2014; 388 in 2015.

I think the GM stuff can work to Shanahan’s favor since Tannenbaum has been at least solid in finding front 7 players (dicey though on secondary picks).

    • BoulderPhinfan says:

Thanks for the research. Good stuff. I think shanny can build a good offense. There is no doubt there. Its the defense and the culture that he creates I have issues with.

      • D says:

Im with ya on that. He has a very hands off approach to the defensive side of the ball and seems to take more of an “we’ll outscore them” apporach to how best to pair his defense with his offenses, which usually are pretty solid. Mike Smith IMO works hard to make sure the team as a whole feed off one another, one scheme helping the other, or at least when i have researched it thats what im seeing between those two. Smith would have to rework the offense to get what he wants, Shanahan wont, but we wont really know if the defense will loo better until he settles on his DC, and again, he isnt going to put a lot of thought or effort in that.

Also as you commented on, he is kinda a like him or hate him guy, it could go either way with the players and we could end up with a mutiny same as we did with Philbin.

  33. Tim Knight says:

Definitely don’t want a defense blowing goats. Maybe massage a panda from time to time, but just say no to blowing goats. LOL

  34. getterdone says:

Tannehill is always getting them blame.

  35. D says:

Smith and Shanahan are about on equal footing with me, both older guys, plenty of experience, but significant flaws, and i think both of them will result in us completely rebuilding one side of the ball.

  36. finfanrob says:

Short description guy wearing a “I love haters” half shirt and nothing else. DOH close window close window close window clear cache clear search memory, clear clear clear.

Herd, you might want to google the above in the privacy of your room…..

  40. Al in MIA says:

My issue with the Fins coaching searches past and present is this…
Anyone who is to be HC had better have had NFL experience as a signal caller in game and have developed a pattern that can be analyzed. How can you hire a guy in which there is no established pattern of risk/reward decisions in game? crazy.
Philbin was an OC by title in GB and never called plays (McCarthy calls the O in game as HC)
Sparano was never an OC at the NFL level prior to becoming HC in Miami.
As for Cam Cameron? How in the F can you ignore what Cam did vs NE in the playoffs prior to the season in which he was hired to be Miami’s HC. He choked the game away in the 2nd H vs NE going away from Tomlinson who was dominant in the 1st half.
Either way, for Cam it didn’t work out. He was a productive coordinator so I can understand the hire. but as for the other ass hats, the Fins don’t get the benefit of the doubt.

    • getterdone says:

Like how Philbin & Lazor go away from Miller after he is running wild in the 1st half….WTF moments in NFL history! smh

  41. Mike E. says:

Philbin was probably dreaming of this . . . .

  42. Al in MIA says:

    D,
I doubt it, the issues in DC with RG3 where brought on by RG3 father. Skins owner is a big ego maniac himself and he wasn’t about to let Shanahan tell him and his front office that they blew it in the draft and bench such a high priced player.

    • Al in MIA says:

And not even close between Philbin type munity vs Shanahan LOL.
Shanahan has rings and players know he’s done it all.

      • D says:

You can see it just from fan reaction and the way a lot of HC need teams have stayed away from him. He’s polarizing. Im not really for or against him personally, i dont think he can fully answer all of our teams problems, but with a really good DC i would be less apprehensive. I dont think his rings are that impressive, thats a long time ago and the NFL is a much different place now.

    • Al in MIA says:

While Dan Snyder is at it, he should send Shanahan a thank you card for taking Kirk Cousins in the same draft or else that franchise would be in a much worse position today LOL

      • getterdone says:

Very true. Was a good contingency draft.

      • D says:

I agree, i have been writing some stuff regarding some of the coaching candidates, which i probably wont submit, same as normal for me, and that was one of my points, that Tannehill to me was very similar to Cousins, who was someone that obviously was a guy Shanahan saw as a potential starter, i think Shanahan and Tanny would be a great pair, im just not sold on Shanahan as the complete package nor the best candidate.

  43. finfanrob says:

Herd, you might want to google the above in the privacy of your room…..

    ————————————–
Al also, i think this generation of players dont really respect things that happened before a lot of them were born. They dont hold those things in as high reverence as you would think or as maybe you and i would. They will however look at the mess that happened in DC, they will look at the player/coach issue, and some may side with him and some may side with RG3. They have one issue with Shanahan and boom, its on. These men dont act like men, they act like kids and kids are selfish and believe they are owed things, and they dont owe anything back.

    Poor D, catching blog hell.

  49. D says:

I think right now the most enticing candidate might be Hue Jackson. I think he seems to be right place right time for the next HC spot. I think he is likely hits most the markers for me, being a fresh mind, developing talent well, decent amount of NFL connections, etc. I lean a little towards Mike Smith over Shanahan but both on similar footing with me. I dont think Austin is much better of an option than Campbell. Combination of Schwartz and with Shanahan or Smith sounds really good. Im not as anti Patriots as some here, i hate the Bills worse, so Josh McDaniels or Patricia dont sound awful, though i question the amount of control given to either of them as far as the playbook for each game or the game plan. Marrone im not a big fan of, just because he walked out on his team. Im sure he had his reasons but i really dont like that kinda thing.

  50. Al in MIA says:

You know what really pisses me off about this whole ‘coach’ search thing and the Fins saying they will search ‘everywhere’ crap? They didn’t apply the same logic to the GM search.

    • Tim Knight says:

They didn’t want to give Bat everything he asked for Christmas.

    • D says:

Position isnt same as other teams where the GM is the end all be all of making the player decisions. Easier if you have a Personnel Czar type position to just pick who ya want to work with instead of wasting time on a hiring process that is just for show.

  51. Al in MIA says:

Yao Ming would be a beast in the red zone, just sayin.

  53. Al in MIA says:

Man, reading back on Shanahan’s time back in DC, I forgot about this:

“He said he believes he leaves the team in better shape than it was in when he arrived in January 2010. He cited the expiration of the two-year, $36 million salary cap penalty imposed by the NFL last year for the manner in which the team structured players’ contracts during the sport’s season without a salary cap in 2010.

Shanahan said the cap reduction prevented the Redskins from adding some of the players they’d targeted to obtain, particularly on defense. He said he was proud that the team captured the division crown last season with the salary cap penalty in effect.”

Remember that ruling on the cap that fucked the Skins and Cowboys? LOL

  54. Randy says:

There’s actually no poof that Shannahan ever said he wanted to draft Tannehill over RGIII. It all came from a comment from the hype-monger Stephen A. Smith saying his “sources” claimed it was true.
    ***
This is as close as I found to Shannahan saying anything about drafting Tannehill:

“He acknowledged Washington thought about keeping the No. 6 pick in the 2012 draft and taking current Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, but said Griffin’s unique talent gave the team’s offense a chance to do things no team in NFL history had done before. Even though Griffin had never run a pro-style offense in college at Baylor, that talent alone made him worth the risk to trade up from No. 6 to No. 2 to draft him.” CBS site

Shannahan has a proven track record, but I’m not sure I’d want to introduce even more drama into this organization. He can coach, but can he bring this team together?

  55. Al in MIA says:

    D,
lol on Yao Ming…won’t even need to QB sneak at the goal line …Just hike the ball and extend arm over the goal line plane.

    • D says:

Yeah not like those guys will be able to swat it away. You could also let him trot to the middle of the end zone and pump pass it to him about 10ft in the air. No one but him is going to have a play on that lol.

  56. Randy says:

    Al,
Ah, the cut block…just one more tool they took away from offensive linemen! Lol

    • D says:

You just have to have good technique with it these days. You have to disengage ever so slightly before you slide off to go block someone else while the buddy to your side cuts your guys legs. Washington was masterful at it this year against us. Jags did i a good bit too.

  57. D says:

“Tannenbaum said experience isn’t a mandate, but admitted that each coaches’ potential hire — especially offensive and defensive coordinators — will heavily influence Miami’s decision making process.”

So i guess on top of promoting themselves they are having to outline a list of coords, and other position coaches they plan on bringing in, making those answers and probably what TBaum thinks of those guys part of the overall decision. I wish there were indications as to whom they each mentioned because that would really make it easier to get excited about one HC over another, knowing what kind of presents they were bringing.

    • getterdone says:

This has been the crux of my whole argument on Campbell remaining here or any other HC candidate. We needed a complete overhaul of real good coordinators, then position coaches.
Remember we lost Kacey Rodgers and the DL turned to shit, even with ‘mr. everything is different now’.

Whatever we get @ HC, it has to come with real coordinators that can call plays, make in game adjustments on the fly….IMO.

  58. Randy says:

    D,
Any HC we hire is gonna be working with the same group of average players so…..

    • D says:

Well yeah, we still have to do some good off season personnel moves to make our team better, but i just think right now i cant even begin that next stage until i have an idea who we are getting to know who we need to look at for upgrades.

    • Tim Knight says:

Not true, there is FA and a draft just like with every other team trying to get better.

    • Al in MIA says:

Agree. My concern with Hue is the system help (much like my view on Shula).
The Bengals have good OL, TE, WR and solid RBs around the QB.
Jackson took over from Jay Gruden at the OC position.
In 2013 under Gruden, the Bengals O ranked 6th in pts, and 10th in yards.
In 2014 under Jackson, the Bengals O ranked 15th in pts and 15th in yards.
This season, Bengals O ranked 6th in points but stayed at 15th in yards.
The Bengals O between 2011-2012 (under Gruden) ranked 18th in pts; 20th in yards (in 2011) and then 12th in pts but 22nd in yards (in 2012).

Prior to Oakland, Hue Jackson was an OC for the Skins in 2003 for 1 season during Spurriors final year (he walked into a bad situation); also was the Falcons offensive coordinator in 2007 for HC bobby petrino’s 1 year stint there (another bad situation to get into).

  59. Randy says:

    D,
That’s just a combo block today.

    • D says:

Washington was really nullifying Suh with it, and also getting to our LB’s on the second, well truthfully third level, since they werent attacking downhill but seemingly playing containment…..on two power backs…. head scratcher.

  60. Randy says:

Its true, im not discrediting it, but question who can Campbell give as anwer to those questions. Limited experience in coaching, not a lot of OC/DC’s in his pocket so to speak. I think this is where guys like Shanahan and Smith have certain advantages, and even people like Hue Jackson, have an advantage even with their breif time as a HC, they still have a lot more connections than a former TE position coach on his first team after retiring as a player.

    • getterdone says:

You don’t know this to be true. Logic says, yeah probably, but Campbell may have more connections than you or I could possibly know.

  64. herdfan says:

I don’t mind saying I’m an optimist. I don’t think our players are all that bad. I do however think they need better coaches, or a better system, whatever you want to call it. If they can get that right, we can only be better. There’s not much room to be worse…

    • D says:

I dont think they are ALL all that bad, some really havent shown me anything as far as growth at their positions. Others i think are pretty solid players. We just have some minor tweaking needed.

  65. getterdone says:

    Hue Jackson

For whatever reason, Jackson’s time as an offensive coordinator and head coach in the NFL has been a series of one-year stints. In his only season as an NFL head coach, he led the Raiders to an 8-8 record, and the only top-10 offense the franchise has had since its Super Bowl season in 2012. But that wasn’t enough for him to be retained for a second year, and the Raiders haven’t had a winning season since.

As offensive coordinator of the Bengals in 2015, Andy Dalton grew exponentially as a quarterback and improved his quarterback rating from 83.5 in 2014 to 106.2 in 2015. While an injury for Dalton caused the offense to limp down the stretch into the playoffs, Jackson’s accomplishments as an offensive coach have raised eyebrows around the NFL.

    Coaching résumé:

    Washington (offensive coordinator): 2003
    Atlanta Falcons (offensive coordinator): 2007
    Oakland Raiders (offensive coordinator): 2010
    Oakland Raiders (head coach): 2011
    Cincinnati Bengals (offensive coordinator): 2015

  67. D says:

I think the coach most likely to retain Campbell as a coord is Payton, as i think he is the one most likely to have that connection with him and know what kinda guy he would make as a coord.

  68. getterdone says:

Updating an earlier item, ESPN’s Dianna Marie Russini reports Mike Shanahan’s interview with the 49ers is “on hold.”
The sides are apparently having phone chats, however. Shanahan bombed with the Redskins and will be 64 in August. If he’s going to return to coaching, it should probably be with a roster further along than San Francisco’s.

    • D says:

could make similar statements about his likely hood of signing with us then, if you agree with that statement i mean.

  69. finfanrob says:

i know it is the business world but you never hire someone to replace an employee then keep that employee around in any capacity. it just never works out well or i should say very seldom works out well.

nothing against campbell but if he isnt going to be the HC then cut all ties with him.

    • D says:

Its going to be highly unlikely he is retained as a coord. Really only probability i see if a coach with a connection to him who would use that connection to ease the transition to a new team, and might also like the passion he played with, therfore maybe the passion he approaches his job as a coach as,

You don’t know this to be true. Logic says, yeah probably, but Campbell may have more connections than you or I could possibly know.
    ———————————–
Yeah but this is one of those, you dont know i dont know, so ill go with what makes the most sense. To me, its not a knock against him, he is just too new to coaching to have those connections, i mean he hasnt even coached in the college ranks to have connections from there.

  71. finfanrob says:

    D,

i think campbells only hope is to go back to the tight end coach. but, i doubt he wants to do that anymore. i would think he is looking for a promotion and with that they only way is with another team.

  72. BoulderPhinfan says:

wow. did you guys know that the giants lost 8 games this year by a total of 26 points. And they led the game going into the 2nd half for a lot of those.

    • getterdone says:

They blew a lot of 4th Qtr leads….their Defense, especially their secondary was atrocious. Remember the Saints game?

    • D says:

Yeah i remember them making some comments like that in some of the games i watched. Maybe not a glowing promotion of Coughlin, but again, a lot of whats wrong with the Giants right now runs deeper than just him..

  73. getterdone says:

    Andrew Abramson ✔ @AbramsonPBP
Interesting. So Dolphins as of now only team meeting in person with Shanahan.

  74. finfanrob says:

    boulder,

i wasnt comparing campbell to anyone. i think the guy got shoved into a bad situation. he should not be blamed or credited with anything other then he was able to step into a position and maintain some kind of control. he didnt show anything football wise just an ability to maintain some control of a bad situation. i think he is best going back to some position coach and learning more

Interesting. So Dolphins as of now only team meeting in person with Shanahan.

thats cause shancan is 170 years old and after one meeting he needs a 24 hour rest period

  76. getterdone says:

    Mike Shanahan

No candidate has more experience than Shanahan, who has been a head coach for more than two decades with three different franchises. While he has spent two seasons away from football — and he’s 63 — Shanahan was close to earning the 49ers job in 2015, and has already drawn some interest from more than one team in 2016.

While the end of his tenure with Washington was far from great, one contributing factor for Shanahan’s firing was his wish to put in Kirk Cousins as starter, and that belief was validated plenty in 2015.

    Coaching résumé:

    Denver Broncos (offensive coordinator): 1984-1987
Los Angeles Raiders (head coach): 1988-1989
San Francisco 49ers (offensive coordinator): 1992-1994
    Denver Broncos (head coach): 1995-2008
    Washington (head coach): 2010-2013

    Interested teams:

    Miami Dolphins
    Philadelphia Eagles
    San Francisco 49ers

  77. finfanrob says:

i am all for Shanahan. when he is hired we can refer to him as shancan and in 3 years we can refer to him as canshan.

  78. getterdone says:

    Todd Haley

Haley originally drew hype as a top offensive mind in the NFL when he helped lead the Cardinals to a Super Bowl appearance at the end of the 2008 season. It was strong enough to earn him a shot as head coach of the Chiefs, and while the team improved to 10-6 in 2010 to go to the playoffs and Matt Cassel earned a trip to the Pro Bowl, Haley’s time with the team ended after a disappointing 7-9 campaign in 2011.

Since then, Haley has led the prolific Steelers offense which finished No. 2 in the NFL in 2014 and No. 3 in 2015, despite missing Ben Roethlisberger for four games.

    Coaching résumé:

Chicago Bears (wide receivers coach): 2001-2003
Dallas Cowboys (wide receivers coach): 2004-2006
    Arizona Cardinals (offensive coordinator): 2007-2008
Kansas City Chiefs (head coach): 2009-2011
    Pittsburgh Steelers (offensive coordinator): 2012-2015

    Interested teams:

    Miami Dolphins

could be interesting in his second time around. hopefully he’s learned a few things since his last run. I heard a lot of complaints from players while he was there the way he treated them and he didn’t have respect because he didn’t play the game. Actually has some Belichick parallel to him in that he grew up watching film with his dad and getting up under Parcells, having failed in one stop before.

    herd,
I had a 3 paragraph reponse prepared but this team has worn me down so much I decided to just say I hope your optimism is rewarded!

  80. BoulderPhinfan says:

    ffr,
I agree he’s not ready. But I think he can work as an assistant HC to someone like coughlin for a couple of years and take over. Dallas did a similar thing.
I don’t think you think that would work. correct?

  81. finfanrob says:

    boulder,

i dont know …… well i guess since i dont know means yeah i dont think it would work. he just didnt show anything as the head coach other then the ability to keep things status quo and not let all hell break lose. i dont know if he is even ready to be an assistant HC. i do feel even if given that chance it shouldnt be here. just too messy with demoting and employee and keeping them around.

I have to admit that a small part of me wants us to hire Hue Jackson, so when he sucks, and we’re 6-10, I can say Fuck Hue.

Randy just views him as an ass

  86. getterdone says:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports ex-USC and Washington coach Steve Sarkisian is “putting out feelers” to NFL teams.
Hired away from the Huskies in 2014, “Sark” was fired by USC in 2015 as his drinking spiraled out of control. He has since sued the university for wrongful termination. Presumably, he has taken steps to get his life in order if he’s seeking NFL work. Schefter reports he’d be open to being a QBs coach or coordinator. The former is far more likely, and even that is a long shot, at least for 2016. Sark was the Raiders’ QBs coach in 2004, which is his only NFL experience.

  87. Randy says:

Anybody with a wife that hot is an asset!

  88. Randy says:

    Neither is Tannehill’s play! Lol

    • Mike E. says:

It’s definitely not hot, but it’s not that bad either. Basically, he’s not as bad as you say he is, and not as good as I think he is.

    Mike Shula

The son of legendary Dolphins head coach Don Shula was just 37 when he became the head coach at Alabama, making him the second-youngest coach in the entire FBS. While the team struggled with a 4-9 record in his first season, the team improved to 10-2 two seasons later, including a win in the Cotton Bowl. But the team declined to 6-6 in 2006, and Shula was fired. Three years later, 21 of Alabama’s victories, including the Cotton Bowl win were vacated due to football players receiving free textbooks.

Since then, Shula has been tasked with the development of Cam Newton and that reached its peak in 2015 with an MVP-level season from the former No. 1 draft pick. While Shula is considered a top coaching candidate, he has reportedly told teams that he won’t interview while the Panthers are still playing, which could severely hurt his chances at getting a head coaching gig in 2016.

    Coaching résumé:

    Miami Dolphins (quarterbacks coach): 2000-2002
Alabama Crimson Tide (head coach): 2003-2006
    Jacksonville Jaguars (quarterbacks coach): 2007-2010
    Carolina Panthers (quarterbacks coach): 2011-2012
    Carolina Panthers (offensive coordinator): 2013-2015

  94. Randy says:

    MikeE,
All I’ve ever said is he’s an average QB. My comments get exaggerated. Lol

    • getterdone says:

My contention is, it’s hard to be an above average Qb when you’re stuck on a well below average team with huge coaching issues.

  95. Randy says:

    gdp
So you think the rest of the team is “well below average”?

    • getterdone says:

Yes, have you seen the stats of the Defense? was 32nd in rush yards allowed most of the season. We had what 1 sack the first 5 games. Secondary got burned badly by the bigger WR’s.
The RB’s got hardly used, the WR’s had lots of drops, the OL was very poor in pass pro.
The Coordinators were horrible @ play calling & in game adjustments, the HC (Philbin) was terrible @ clock mgmt, and the team had a plethora of stupid penalties usually at the wrong times too. A QB that could never get in a rhythm due to a lot of this.

      So you tell me.

      • getterdone says:

PS. Don’t let the stellar 5-10 record & 1-5 in the division sway you that this was a good team now.

  96. The Flying Pig says:

In case you were wondering what Landry’s final stats were
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16790/jarvis-landry

almost 200 catches and 2000 yards in 2 years
    pretty amazing

compare to some of his contemporaries
    Allen Robinson
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16799/allen-robinson
    Mike Evans
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16737/mike-evans
    Odell Beckham
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16733/odell-beckham-jr
    Brandon Cooks
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16731/brandin-cooks
    Sammy Watkins
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16725/sammy-watkins
    Jordan Matthews
    http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/16763/jordan-matthews

Most of these receivers from the 2014 draft are killing it
But Landry is still holding his own and probably more impressive than a few of these guys
I would say the only one that is head and shoulders better than Landry is Beckham
and Beckham is basically all universe good

I am not even including Kelvin Benjamin who was out all season
Martavious Bryant who is more of a role player on Pitt
or the other Jags receiver – Marquis Lee
Landry is way ahead of those guys

and a few guys drafted before or about the same time as Landry
aren’t really producing much: Paul Richardson, DeVante Adams, Cody Lattimer, or Donte Moncrief

and I wanted to draft Moncrief at the time as did a few others

    • getterdone says:

Landry & Parker looks to be Hickey’s crowning achievement after the WR corp was gutted (Wallace, Hartline, Gibson). Looks like he hit on James & Philips too.

Hope we don’t grow to regret what Hickey brought here.

      • The Flying Pig says:

Hickey did a good job on first and 2nd round picks
and if you nab starters there you are in good shape

I really don’t know why we fired him
I hope he lands a job elsewhere pretty quickly
