Game Day – Patriots @ Dolphins

Capture

Last game of the season.  It turned out a lot different than what we all had hoped for a few short months ago.  Even though it won’t matter, I hope they manage to somehow pull off a miracle and win this game.  It would make this long off season ahead a little easier.

For those who are observant, you’ll notice the record is wrong, I set this up at the same time as last weeks game.  It’s hard to whip up much enthusiasm so I thought I’d go ahead and get it out of the way.  We probably lost last week anyway.

Let’s Go Dolphins.

guess you are even laughing at yourself with that comment.

To be clear I enjoyed this win a lot but it does not change the fact that we are 6-10. Our roster did not suddenly become infused with Talent and Campbell is not magically the answer because of this one game

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I thought we became an 11-5 team after this game. LOL

NOOOO-O-O-O, counsellor? Yes, this is still the BETTER HALF of an AWFUL coaching staff approved by Tannenbaum & Ross. After failing his last two years with the Jets, Tannenbaum FAILS MISERABLY his first year with the Dolphins, as the 6-10 record proves.

As of 4:25pm the current SOS…

    Mia .471
    TB .454
    NYG .496
    Chic .551

…so if the SOS pretty much stay the same….

    #8- Tampa Bay
    #9- Miami
    #10- NYG
    #11- Chicago

  9. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Ken, but if we lost or got blown out, then the comments are how bad all the talent is, how bad Campbell is, how Belicheat out coached him…yada yada yada.

But another HC will magically infuse the roster with talent & magically start geting Miami into the playoffs.
    Who is that guy btw?

    • olddolphan's avatar olddolphan says:

THAT GUY is called a “new General Manager!” And that should occur AFTER Ross gives T-Baum and King Carl the boot!

Never give up. Never lose if you can win. Never lay down.
    6-10 is better than 5-11.
Beating the pasties* is the best feeling I can have in the NFL every year.
To me, my season ended on a high note today.
There was a lot today that we can build on.
If I can’t be happy for all of those reasons, then there is no reason for me to be a fan.

  11. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I wish Tanny gave Miko the finger as he ran past the players families section towards the locker room after the big win.
Sadly he has too much class though.

  12. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The wrongness is not about your feelings. I want you to feel good because you are a bro on this site and a fellow fan of my team.
    BUT
if the Dolphins lost on purpose, that is dishonest and if they will do that, then they cannot be respected or trusted to fight hard in the future. So I am glad they fought hard. Dropping a couple spots in the draft is really not a big deal. Not compared to taking a dive.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

We need help at more than one position. So there’ll be plenty of talent where we pick. Just make the right choice on BPA…IMO.

  13. rgs322's avatar rgs322 says:

    I’ll take it a step further….

If TB loses, we need SD to lose and St. Louis to win. Then see where the SOS are between the 2 teams.

If TB wins it doesn’t matter, we pick before them.

  14. D's avatar D says:

Tim, again, that’s the point of my comment. It obviously had nothing to do with sexual preference. I know it isn’t your sexual preference and would seem if you also did, you would have seen the comment about being stuck on his cock was to make a graphic point of how absurdly supportive you have become over a guy who has a listing record and struggled all year getting his job done. Nothing about how he finished the year says he has solidified himself as a prime candidate.

To GD, yeah man that’s true if we go with him, or hell any candidates we have to have good coordinators around them. Difference is he will have to have someone else find proper coordinators for him because he hasn’t had the time in the NFL as a coach to have those connections. It’s part of the reason most people progress through position coach to coordinator to head coach. You learn skills along the way that prepare you for the next step. I’m not saying he is never going to be one, I just think he has thing he need to learn before he is successful.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I didn’t even take in the sexual thing the first time around so I didn’t get it. It was through the grapevine. LOL

  22. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

D, I’m not blindly hung on Campbell either. But I’m also not so blind as to think his ‘listing’ record as you say is a bad thing either. He’s an interim coach dealing with a pile of garbage staff that he inherited. He got rid of both of the real problems, but the interim coordinators couldn’t make wholesale changes of the schemes in the middle of a season.

So it makes one curious as to what Campbell might be able to do with a full compliment of his staff & schemes and another draft/FA to prepare during an offseason.

The blind part is blowing him off so quickly as not being ready. He looked ready today. He out coached Mr. Wizard & Tom Lady. Makes one wonder if there’s more of that with some offseason changes as I previously stated.

  23. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

The only thing that could make this day better would be for The Packers to lose tonight..

  24. D's avatar D says:

I think that Campbell has potential. I think he was forced into the role of HC ahead of normal progression because he was a morale guy. It helped some in that respect but he has struggled because he was thrust into it.

Could we select him, yes but we would also be choosing a longer path to get back to relevant. We have to accept that and work to build his HC skills as we also try to rebuild our team. It’s a tough road to go on. I’m not a fan of it.

I want someone who knows how to build a successful staff, someone who knows who works best with him and gas a solid identity they plan on bringing to the team.

For these reasons I cannot support hiring Campbell because he does not fit that idea of who I think is best for the team. Has nothing to do with liking him or disliking him.

  25. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    GDP

The one thing that I think is a real negative with Campbell, at least in my mind, is that we’ll have to find 2 very good coordinators that can help manage the game, and game plan, because I don’t think Campbell is ready at all in that regard. It can be done, it’s just difficult. I don’t see where the team played with any more fire on the whole for him , than they did for anyone else. This one game doesn’t change everything, they were listless for a few games under Campbell as well.

    • D's avatar D says:

That’s my concerns. We also will be picking coordinators for him which means the results probably ate bad. Being able to assemble your own team, having experience there is a big plus in my book

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yep, I agree with that. Plus, I’m sure people will be saying that Mr. T chose Campbell because he can be in charge of everything, including handpicking Campbell’s coordinators.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

Mike Zimmer has done well with Norv Turner as his OC. Ron Rivera with OC Shula & DC McDermott. There are many examples. A HC can’t do it all. He has to have a solid support staff that he oversees & interjects his thoughts with. Then he leads on the field & with the players in the locker room and practice field.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

You guys act like Campbell has no connections in this league. He just got off the train after swimming across the open border. 😉

  26. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    lol @ Brady limping clip!

    Way to go Suh!

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Tell me it wasn’t an absolute pleasure that on the play Suh nailed Brady, that instead of calling a roughing the passer penalty passer on Suh, they called an illegal hands to the face against the Patriots. That was beautiful. It was the right call, but how many times have we seen it go the other way?

  28. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    GDP

Yeah, it can be done, SB also mentioned correctly that Mike Tomlin did it with the Steelers. Thing is, IMO, the Head Coach should at least be qualified to be a coordinator, and I don’t think Campbell is, while Tomlin, albeit for a short time, was a DC.

  29. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

congratulations to the dolphins. what a game. great job. I still think we bring in a new coach but its great to finish the season with a win against the pats to get us ready for next year.

  30. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

as we all know. This FA will be about the defense and oline. and I won’t be heart broken if miller is gone. He’s just not that effective in between the tackles. Our oline sucks though.

    • getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

WTF, did you see his run between the tackles today? What vision, cuts, and powering through creating his holes.
Miller has shown elite RB skills this year. It started building & coming to him last season.

  31. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I’m sure Tbomb will be trying to hire a HC not named Campbell. But all I’m saying is that Campbell should be closely considered and not judged solely on the record. Look at what he had to work with mid-stream.
I’m ok with another HC if it’s someone I feel a lot more comfortable with as well as the staff that he will ultimately end up with.

Whoever that HC is, he’ll have to be ok with a green GM too.

The DOOFUS BRIGADE that’s brought us a franchise record 7 consecutive non-winning seasons is still calling the shots. Some of the names have changed since Day 1. Tuna’s been replaced by T-Baum; Ireland by the Hickey/T-Baum team; Sparano by Clueless Joe; Mike Dee by ole what’s his name. But the #2 DOOFUS, Metamucil Karl Peterson, still has Ross’s ear and, of course, the #1 DOOFUS, ROSS, HIMSELF, is still on the job as master puppeteer. I’LL address these issues in detail in the next couple of weeks.

i already said if this win just caused the fins one or two spots then it is great. if it caused them 5 or 6 then is sucks. and the fins are not a good team, havent been for a while so i could careless about saying teams draft in the high 20’s and still have winning records.

Dolphins pick Chris Grier as their new GM

The Miami Dolphins were not without a general manager very long.

Chris Grier, who has been with the Dolphins 16 seasons, has been tapped as the general manager to succeed Dennis Hickey. The only thing remaining from this becoming official are contract details that are expected to be ironed as early as Monday.

The Dolphins declined to confirm this hiring.

Grier has been the team director of college scouting and is widely respected in NFL personnel circles. Grier joined the Dolphins after spending five years with the New England Patriots.

The list of successful personnel men and NFL general managers that vouch for Grier is ample. Among these: Jerry Reese of the New York Giants, Dave Gettleman of the Carolina Panthers, Rick Spielman of the Minnesota Vikings and Hall of Famer Bill Parcells.

Grier, who interviewed for the New York Jets GM job last year, just completed his 21st NFL season and is no stranger to talent evaluation because he basically grew up in it. Grier’s father Bobby Grier was in the New England Patriots front office from 1982-99. Bobby Grier is currently the senior personnel advisor with the Houston Texans.

The Dolphins moved quickly on this matter. They identified in-house candidates they were impressed by and chose one. On Saturday they parted ways with Hickey after the former GM declined a reassignment within the organization.

Once the Grier contract is signed, he will immediately become a voice within the organization. Aside from being the top talent evaluation officer within the organization, he is expected to join the club’s search for a head coach.

The Dolphins will begin that search immediately with executive vice president Mike Tannenbaum being the point man on a committee that includes vice chairman Matt Higgins, president and CEO Tom Garfinkel and owner Stephen Ross.

Ross obviously will weigh the recommendations of his advisors and be the final authority on who is hired as coach.

LOL @ New Age bustin balls on another blog with a Pats fan. Kudos Phin Nation!

    • Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

I thought the same thing. Pats fans are embarassed. all they have to say is “look at the records” and we’d slink away. But I’m sure it turns into a debate on air pressure somehow. lol

  73. D's avatar D says:

Rhino, I have heard badly likely goes olb/de, Ozzie supposedly find talent at those positions more reliable less gamble than CB and would likely pressure a CB in FA

  74. D's avatar D says:

I think 8th might be a like deep to get Hargreaves but if be happy as shit if we wind up with him like we did Parker this year

  75. D's avatar D says:

Bookman I’m with ya on that one. I hate the broncos

  76. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Suh was jumping quick today, including multiple defensive off-side penalties.

Maybe his timing was off or maybe he was telling Brady “we don’t care if we win the game or not…..we just want to hit you hard.”

Seemed to work in terms of putting the fear of Jahn into Tommy Boy.

New Age I cannot envision a new HC wanting to keep Campbell as an assistant HC. That would be dysfunctional. The new HC would looking over his shoulder

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I dont either but it’s the only way I would take Campbell. He just doesnt have the right experience yet or enough experience.

So you think Campbell made Hewitt and Lippett play better today? Why didn’t he conspire this magic earlier? lol

  81. New Age's avatar New Age says:

The Pats fan tried to tell the rest of us that the pats lost on purpose…so that they would get effect who played who. It was hilarious and we had a lot of fun with him. Pats fans are the worst. Jets would be if they ever amounted to anything but they dont

  82. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Sorry I just don’t see us paying a lot of money to keep miller. We’ll see what his asking price is. I would rather keep Vernon than miller.

  83. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Rumors are of that the next HC will have a say whether or not they want Tannehill as their guy. Guess the FO is serious about attracting the right candidate at any price.

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

My best friends sister-in-law is a real mouthy Jets fan. We were at my friends house during the summer for a party, and and I was talking football with the boys, and she walks over mid convo to blurt out “we knocked you out of the playoffs 2 years ago, I remember that and it was AWESOME!” I’m totally looking forward to shoving this one down her throat when I see her. Not that we had anything to do with it, just that they choked big time, and missed the playoffs.

Soooo….had some technical issues after the game with my internet. Is the consensus that we’re happy we won? 😉

I hope that the Dolphins aren’t in a rush to hire a HC, because that would take some of the better coordinators in the playoffs out of the mix unless they get permission to interview.

I have to say “up and down career” is extremely exaggerated. He was an arrow up until this year, and took a minor step back. Regardless, I always think if you’re hiring a qualified HC, he should have his say on anyone on the roster, QB and DT included.
