Tom Coughlin

Tom Coughlin for President?

Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson – Right on brother!

Sean Payton for a 2nd RD pick? Mike Shanahan? Adam Gase? Tom Coughlin? Dan Campbell? Bill Belichick for Suh, Landry, Parker and Tannehill? Hue Jackson? Mike Shula? Teryl Austin? Mike Smith?

Who will be the next head Coach of the Miami Dolphins?

Out of all the options above, and there are sure to be other options in the near future, I actually have 2 favorites from that bunch.

If we’re going with the short term stopgap, and a HC who will give us respectability immediately, and as part of the package, grooms our next HC in Dan Campbell, I’m all for Tom Coughlin. Coughlin is a well respected HC and person in the NFL. Once a fierce disciplinarian type coach, being a military man, Coughlin was a no nonsense man. As HC of the NYG, he felt like he was losing his team, and changed his approach to a more friendlier relationship with his players, and the team responded and went to the Super Bowl and won. Is 70 years old too old? I say hell no! I’ve seen great managers in baseball like Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon succeed in their 70’s, and heck, Ronald Reagan was 70 when he was elected President, and he did a fantastic job running our country.

I like Dan Campbell, but I just don’t think he’s ready to run a team yet. Too many things he’s deficient in, but what a truly great guy to learn from Tom Coughlin would be. A true professional, a winner. Of course, nothing has been documented that Coughlin and or Cambell would agree to this set up, but it seems legitimate to me, and I like it.

If we’re looking for a long term (hopefully), I like Hue Jackson. (I would like Mike Shula too, but as so far, he hasn’t been mentioned as a coach we’re interested in) Jackson wasn’t given a fair shot with the Raiders, he went 8-8, and was fired. Incidentally, Hue’s OC in OAK was Al Saunders, the guy we brought in to “help” our offense after Philbin was fired. Jackson has done good things as OC for the Bengals. Dalton is playing his best football of his career this year, and most believe that is credit due to Hue Jackson. Bengals fans are actually crying for Dalton to play in the playoffs when they clearly all know Dalton is 0-4 in the playoffs.

  • Friday January 8th Update! *

Yesterday, the Dolphins interviewed Bears Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase.  Supposedly it was a long, thorough interview.  That means this week, the Dolphins have interviewed Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith, Teryl Austin and Anthony Lynn.  Dan Campbell will make his case today, and Doug Marrone and Hue Jackson will follow this weekend.

Coughlin looks like a football player?

D, since when do fans have to use the same reasoning on everyone. dont you know it only matters for the one instance discussed. it is ok for tanny to be great when he throws a bad pass to landry and he makes the catch but when he throws one to stills and he doesnt then it is only the wr’s fault

Coughlin was a hardass military guy. He’s 70 YO now, but when he was with the Jags, and then early on with the Giants, he would get up in peoples faces. He was intimidating, although obviously not a huge human being, he was fiery guy.

    • D's avatar D says:

He still seems to carry himself that way. Was more joke than anything. I will say a big concern for me was something I saw in him over there course of the year. Which is a almost with down demeanor.

I’m somewhat afraid he may be burned out by the NFL by now. Maybe it was just the Giants, but I think he is getting tired of most people speculating he is done as a coach so much so that every time he loses a game the trails start up again. You think that’s going to get any better in the Miami sports media market. I doubt it

So I’m studying the Dolphins’ stats and this one really stood out: The team failed to score 21 points or more in 13 of 16 games this season. It’s hard to win that way in the NFL.
    ———————————–
I know it’s his job, but Walker is really starting to look like an idiot. We all know the season was a bust, guys didn’t put out the effort early and had lots of injuries late. With that said the stats this yr really don’t mean a whole lot good or bad.

Ya know, parcell’s was probably onto something when he said you are what your record says you are. One single win or loss during the season doesn’t tell what sort of team you were. Your final record does. Our record says we sucked. Lol
    ———————————————
Why do we have to keep hearing about this stupid quote? It’s no different than Herm saying you play to win the game. Or saying you win when you score more points than your opponent. Not really a Phi Beta Kappa quote.

    mike,

his dad wasnt to bad either. i think the best overall player i ever saw isnt allowed into the hof or a part of baseball any more. i think the best two players i have ever seen play the game are rose and jeter. they may not have been the best athletes, but like some qb that played for the dolphins maybe the best i ever watched played the game.

The wheels on the bus go round and round

  29. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Not thrilled with Lovie being fired for multiple reasons. Reminds me too much of the Browns carousel. Reports say they like Keotter so much that it was Lovie or him and he won. I’m not a huge fan of Lovie in Miami but there are worse options out there.

    • D's avatar D says:

That’s why you don’t just for coaches year after year. It’s counterproductive. Holding on to hope philbin for as long as we did might seem foolish in hindsight but we handled ourselves much better than these other organizations are

  30. D's avatar D says:

    Lovie Smith firing was unexpected.

  31. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Rock

Coughlin has the personality I like though. Despite his smaller frame, he’s a fiery guy, who will get in your face if it requires that. He’s not a dry piece of toast like Philbin was.

    • D's avatar D says:

I think maybe something died a little in philbin when his son did. He sure didn’t have a lot of pain during losses, which sound weird to say but if you are a passionate person you are just so about losses as wind, just in a different way

      • D's avatar D says:

Wins not winds, passionate not pain, though pain works to

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Sad, but probably true D. Can’t even imagine the pain he felt, but I’d have to agree that a loss in an NFL game must seem pretty trivial compared to what he went through.

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    D

The Bucs firing Lovie is like Coughlin resigning in NY. Both organizations want to keep their OC’s, and both will likely have to promote them to HC to do it.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We were also reported to be interested in their OC Dirk Koetter as were other teams. That’s why the Bucs made the move.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yes, that’s what I’m saying. The Eagles want McAdoo, and we wanted Koetter, so both teams have to promote them to keep them

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

There’s a lot of young OCs getting looks as HCs.

  34. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

    Macadoo is more like MacAdon’t

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

How about trying to build around both by adding good players on both sides of the ball. If we can makes some upgrades at LB, in the secondary and on the OL, I think we’re already a potential playoff team.

      • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Or just get coaches that can properly use the personnel we already have.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I don’t think we have to upgrade the offense all that much. We have an up and coming star in the making in Parker, and guy who already is a star in Landry. We need to add to that, but we don’t need to draft there early. We also need to not lose Miller, or that opens another hole we have to replace. I think Cameron is overrated, and Sims can’t seem to get it all together, so we may need a TE. Most importantly, fix the damn O-line! If we really improve the defense in this draft, I agree Tim, we can’t be all that far away from being a playoff team.

  35. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

SB7, I think we need to do both. I also don’t think it’s an insurmountable task.

    • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I do too but I’m of the mind that we would’ve made the playoffs the last 3 years had we had coaches who used our personnel properly. Probably could’ve done it Philbin’s rookie year too.

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    SB

Good coaching goes a long way, no doubt, but it doesn’t always get you there.

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I think a good coach is imperative, but a lot of good coaches didn’t make the playoffs this year. John Harbaugh, Tom Coughlin, Chuck Pagano, John Fox, Sean Payton, Lovie Smith, and if you’re Tim, you’ll include Jeff Fisher. lol

  38. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If you take Parker’s last 6 games when he became a part of the offense, he had 22-445 20.2 3 TD. Those numbers project to 59-1,187 20.1 8TD. I actually think his numbers could be better than that next year.

  39. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If this report is true, we could hire Gase today. If he turns us down, let the Tannehill bashing begin. LOL
    http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2016/01/nfl_coaching_rumors_miami_dolphins_will_try_to_hir.html

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I hope he doesn’t like Tannehill. I know it’s not fair, but I see Philbin 2.0

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

How so? I don’t know enough about Gase other than a lot of teams like him. Just wondering why you think he’s like Philbin?

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

A guy who doesn’t necessarily seem ready to be a HC. He’s only been a coordinator for 2-3 years, what makes him so qualified to be a HC? I’d prefer someone with experience, but if they hire Gase, we’re not getting it.

  41. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

Cutler also became more of a game manager with Gase. His INT’s went down, and his completion % up, but TD’s also went down. I think that’s Tannehil’s issue already, so I don’t see how Gase helps there.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think that’s too micro-analyzing. You can’t put player stats solely on a coach.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

If you did I still think Cutler had one of the better seasons he’s had in recent memory. Call it a game manager, but I’ll sign up for 64.4% 3,659yds 21TDs 11ints and a 92.3 rating anyday….and I think Tannehill can do better than that. I certainly don’t think there’s any argument Cutler was worse under Gase..so it’s not like he’s going to ruin Tannehill.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed and I’m sure Gase could help Tannehill overcome his horrible 61.9% 4,208yds 24TDs 12INT and 88.7 rating season. 😉

  42. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Mike. Coaching for the whole staff not just the HC.

  43. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike E, some good coaches have become head coaches never having been coordinators like John Harbaugh and Andy Reid,

Mike Tomlin and Chuck Pagano were only DCs one year and Todd Bowles just two. Jay Gruden was an OC just two years in CIN.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yup, and there are a long list of failures too, 3 of them here in the last 10 years, Cameron, Sparano and Philbin

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So just roll with the failures then. LOL

Picking a first time HC is no different than drafting in the 1st rd.

  44. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

    Mancampbell.

  45. getterdone's avatar getterdone says:

I’d hire Shanahan over Gase anyday!

  46. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I see all this talk about Peyton, and I confess I have no idea of the veracity of the reports the Saints were shopping him, but I’m skeptical. That organization had a grand total of ONE playoff win before he came along-in their history!

My guess is they wouldn’t let him get away, but like I said, I haven’t followed the story very closely at all.

  47. Jahndoh30's avatar Jahndoh30 says:

I know why folks like Campbell, and I know why the players do too. He’s likeable. But…what did he do as an interim coach that looked any different than what we’ve seen from this team for the last decade (save 2008)???

    I’ll pass on Ramsey.
Take a look at someone like Iowa’s Desmond King who had nearly 3 times as many INT in this season alone (8) than Ramsey had his entire career at FSU (3 career picks).
Too bad King decided to stay another year 😦

Alright, then I’ll bring up GT’s corner DJ White :/

I actually liked George Iloka because with his size (6’4″ 225), he can compete with TE’s as well as the taller WR’s. He’s a pretty good player.

    @OmarKelly

Something is wrong when the man you hired as your GM (Jason Licht) fires you, and truth is the front office moves have been BAD in Tampa.

LOL! This is true. But I have done it before. (been hired by someone, then promoted above him and had to fire him)

Adam Gase has NOT accepted the offer for Head Coach from the Miami Dolphins. Instead, he will go to Hollywood and will be the center square on Hollywood Squares

I just checked him out. Not impressed. Under “Experience” it says 2 letters. Maybe we should check back when he knows the other 24. lol

A co-worker sent me a friend request yesterday on facebook and I denied it.

what you get for even having a facebook account to begin with.

  95. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

it is more like something is wrong everytime otroll opens his mouth. the owners fired smith, not the gm. must be nice to get paid to be wrong 100% of the time

  96. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Believe me, I’d much rather not have a Facebook account but it’s almost necessary these days.

Besides, the guy is a hard core Alabama fan. He should know better.
